Always high electric bills. Recently i needed to get into my account. Mind you i have not logged on in almost 3 years. My debit card recently expired and i couldn't get into my account to add my new one. Google search how to recover your user name, it says click login help next to the login button. The login button is not there, and if it is it should be easier to find. But I have spent half an hour trying to find something to help one this frustrating website.
I did get a nice helpful person when i called in to get my account fixed.

Most exspensive utility company I ve ever had the displeasure of using ,I figured when I moved from Detroit that maybe I d be done with high electric bills but my god , some how my bill has spiked from 230 to maybe 270 at max to nearly 400 dollars , my house is tiny and I mean tiny.. at least DTE handed me the same predictable bill all year long but city utility felt it was super cool to raise the cost of utilities. My bill always asked if I want to donate to those whom can t always pay the whole bill, but I m drowning at this point in the cost of mediocre service where is my donation !?!?

I'm honestly surprised the reviews are this high. They've probably had to start having employees leave positive reviews. This company has literally returned my payments and then charged me a late fee... multiple times. Then they blame me and my bank for it. Also, for the first several months I had auto pay. Suddenly, I didn't and I fell months behind. I was not even informed that auto pay stopped working until I got a shut off notice on the door. I should've noticed that my account wasn't being charged, wasn't much money though, but they still should've reached out immediately. They have the worst communication I've ever had to deal with. Seriously, I could write a book on how much I can't stand this company.

Response to the company*
You guys always call my girlfriend, not me, even though I tell you to take her off every time we speak.

Worst company I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. If google would allow negative stars cu would be in the negative. The proof is in the reviews. They do not respond to the negative ones only the positive ones. Really?! How do you expect to improve? Oh thats right...you dont care if u improve! You are the monopoly in Springfield and there is no other choice. Worst company ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This company made me pay someone else's bill of 1100 dollars and a 300 deposit for service then never turned it on stayed on hold with them for an hour and a half its been 4 days and still no service or answers after spending 1400 dollars

The biggest concern I have with C.U. is the billing. What we see on our bill isn't what they have on there computer in front of them. I've called them on there math a few times. It just didn't add up. 1+1 is 2 not 3. I ask them to please explain how they do there math nobody can explain it to me. You know what I'm told, that what they have on the computer in front of them is not what they show us. Still to this day they won't tell me how to use there math.

They refuse to work with you and turn your electricity off before thanksgiving with a child under 3 years old in the house and a person with a disabity and then when you can actually pay to have the service back on they're not open due to black friday.

Absolutely incompetent. Worse than the DMV. These mouth-breathers and neckbeards drag their knuckles as they attempt to bring utility services to our city. They should all be fired and their pensions should be revoked.

I got punished for paying my bill early. I paid the entire thing off while being enrolled in the auto withdraw program. Apparently that is a bad thing. Every other company I have with the auto withdraw recognizes early payments, not here. They will charge you again the full amount of your bill. If you have a billing account set up at your bank and don't have the funds they take you off the auto withdraw program and charge you $125.00 to get back in. Punishing people for being on the ball is a great way to run a business, especially when people have no choice but to use the company. I am getting refunded the $125.00 which is the only good out of the situation here.

If I could give negative stars I definitely would love that option. This place has had the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I m sure this feedback will go unnoticed, like everyone else who complains here. I asked if I could talk to someone about feedback and they informed me they have comment cards . What a joke. Unfortunately Springfield has nothing else..so if someone is looking for the best company ever...start something different for consumers than this ridiculous place. You would have SO many people to follow.

My meter was just recently changed out with the "new digital" meter. This is the second month my bill has doubled since this new meter was put in. Please explain to me how I went from an $80.00 bill to a $170.00 bill and I have used less electric? That is so wrong!

I have been trying to get them to come trim the dead tree by power lines for almost a year. No one ever shows up. Now the tree has broken off and is tangled in the line and pulling it down. The powerline hasn't broken yet but it's only a matter of time as it rains more and weighs the limbs down. It has been in this condition for over a week since I reported the tree hanging on the power line and I have not seen anyone. Terrible company monopolizing the citizens of Springfield under the name "City Utilities" when in all actuality it is a private company and not actually legally affiliated with the City of Springfield. Again terrible company.

Absolute worst company in the world to do business with. 1) They have the rudest employees. You can call 5 different times and each one of them will give you a different answer because no one is properly trained. 2) I know people that owe $1,000 or more and don't get messed with and i am 1 week late and already have a disconnect notice for 3 days later? 3) they charge you a deposit to start services (which you can get back after 12 months of paying on time. However once you miss a payment and are not eligible to get this back they start to raise the "deposit". I don't understand how you can continue to call it a deposit when i'm paying for something i am not able to get back. You are literally charging me for being broke. I continue to get disconnect notices for unpaid "deposit" that was just added onto my bill without any type of warning. They are literally stealing money from everyone in Springfield because we have no other option for our homes.

DO NOT USE EZ PAY IT IS ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MODIFY YOU PAYMENTS AT ALL AND IF YOU MAKE AND ALTERNATIVE PAYMENT THEY WILL STILL TAKE MONEY FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, AND WILL NOT RETURN IT. THEY WILL MAKE YOU WAIT FOR THE CHARGE TO COME THROUGH ON YOUR BANK AND REFUND THE ALTERNATE PAYMENT ONCE THEY HAVE THEIR MONEY. REALLY SAD WHEN YOU CAN JUST OPERATE HOW YOU WANT BECAUSE YOU RE THE ONLY UTILITY COMPANY IN THE AREA. PATHETIC, GOOD THING YOU HAVE NO COMPETITION OR YOU WOULD HAVE ALREADY LOST MY BUSINESS.

City Utilities is under the impression that time travel is reality. They send disconnect notices AFTER they have closed for the day that power will be disconnected the following day. No recourse..
The only time a monopoly is ok is with power companies. You are stuck.. you have to pay them whatever they want..

Over charges my bill and many others, and is reported in the paper for rediculous overpriced service then power outage for the whole neighborhood the next day. The people of springfield are at their mercy with no way out.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I specifically called to ensure that the billing department had switched my payment method and they ensured me that it was taken care of. Then on the due date I get an email saying my payment failed and I am being charged a deposit and late fee! After calling they pretty much told me that it's too bad and they can't do anything and now I can only pay cash. No check, no debit or credit card, cash only. Because of their mistake! And the bill was paid manually 20 minutes after the email came through that it failed so being charged a late fee is ridiculous. I wish there were another company to switch too in the area.

What?? This is City Utilities response to someone being disconnected 5 months ago..
" When a customer receives a disconnect notice, the bill will have been unpaid for at least 60 days. There are notices on each bill prior to the disconnect notice that there is a past-due amount. We recommend that customers call us as soon as they get a bill that they know they will have trouble paying. If a customer waits until they have a disconnect notice in hand to let us know that they're having trouble, our options are much more limited to be able to assist that customer with their bill. We want to help you not get behind. Please call us as soon as you know you'll have trouble paying your bill so we can work with

I have paid my bill over 75 percent of it, Atleast the past due amount and NO less for atleast 24 months every month on the first of the month yet ive been shut off three times because I get my disability check on the first and the disconnect date is on the 30th. So then I am charged another 50 to 100 in fees on the next months bill. Then today I am told when I call 24 hours before the disconnect date on the notice I just got on Friday!! That you now have to call 48 hours in advance and there was nothing they could do. I will be shut off and no payment arrangement will be made even tho i oy ask for one to three days extended and pay a price for the late payment each month aside from the rude customer service . I am treated like I am a second rate customer who never pays there bill. I was so upset after my second phone call the city utilities but there is nothing I can do but wait again for the power to be shut off on me and my ten year old son again. Atleast it wont be 90 degrees but it will be 35 degrees.
Im sure there will be a reply about how I did something wrong yet AGAIN and im sure its its legal but tell me what the harm in the Utility Company from giving me two days when Ive done what they have asked NOT to be shut off. Ive called 24 hours in advance like they say but now all of the sudden it changes to 48 hours. How can anyone be expected to get out of the hole with you when you so obviously keep them getting in it worse.
Wow

Let me first say that I always set up my bills on auto pay and have never been late paying any bill in my life.

Additionally I am a landlord and have multiple accounts that are all in good standing.

Every time I have had to interact with City utilities I have found the employees act like I am some sort of bad guy. They act as if they are not a service provider, they act as if they don't need or want to deal with customers.

Worst part is that there is nothing I can do about it. They truly have monopolized the area and you can't live in Springfield without have some kind of service from them. It is crap and I recommend you live outside thier area.

Again, over a year after my first review. City utilities is still the worst utilities company I have ever had to use.

I wish I could give them zero stars. Worst customer service! I had me identity stolen and all my cards cancelled and reissued. I have them all the new information and they used the old back info instead. It happened multiple times! Now they won't let me pay with a bank account or a credit card This is ridiculous! I wish there was another company in town. Until then it's highway robbery!

Payed bill with credit card cause money is tight and they still took money out of my checking account. Now I'm going to be struggling to pay the rest of my bills. Thanks alot for horrible service.

The worst utilities company ever, Probably because they have a monopoly. I've complained to the Missouri Public Services Commission about them, if you have a valid complaint I suggest you do the same.

They said i used 95.00 worth of water when my bill is right around 25 to 30.00!! When i called them all they wanted to do is take have it off and told me that i used it because it passed throu the meter. I will be filling a report with the attorney general also kspr!!

Been with them for 3 years and never had a problem with my utilities or bill. Customer service was excellent. I love the online paperless billing..I paid whenever I remembered to online day or night.

Miss a payment of $10 and they ll disconnect your service. To make things worse. They charge you a late fee. Expected. To make it even worse they charge you a $30 reconnect fee. Whatever. To make things the absolute worst, they charge you a $100 deposit on top of all that. What a joke of a company. Us timer service wait times are through the roof... a handful of people make six figures here. Rip off.

I have had billing problems on numerous occasions with this company and we are setup on auto pay. We just moved into new house today, the old bill was paid on 06/11/19 when it was due. I log in online to see if they read our old meter yet and what that bill will be and I see a bill for $25.00 on the new address that was due 9 days ago. We just bought the house 3 days ago. No usage and no explanation. What the heck?! How is that even possible?!

Ok, just spoke with very nice man in customer service and he explained that it is for the setup fee for transferring service and it is not overdue. I feel much better now. The billing explanation when you go online could be better. I gave it a higher rating because of his customer service.

I have never really had good any experiences dealing with CU. But Thursday I had the pleasure of speaking to a supervisor named Blake! Blake went above and beyond to help my family out! He took time out of his schedule to call me multiple times until he had the situation resolved! He turned my very bad day into an amazing one! The world needs more people like him...people willing to listen and not judge. Thank you supervisor Blake for your awesome service!

Knowingly giving us cancer. In 2019 they're showing 2015 Cr-6 results 180% of the 2016 federal limit and saying they "do not have a maximum contaminant level" (MCL). Really? The EPA instituted an MCL and MCLG of 0.100 ppb and you KNOW you had 0.180ppb... yet you aren't testing to see if you pass? I WONDER WHY. Maybe you'd get SHUT DOWN for passing known CARCINOGENS through the public water supply.

City Utilities has a bad habbit of not sending out a bill (either by mail or email) Then calling (after closing hours) when a payment is missed saying that if payment not received today then services will be shut off tomorrow. Then when you call back immidiatly, you get a message stating that they are closed... I guess having a monopoly on services in an area means you get to be a dick to all your customers

Wow, I can't believe the way they treat their customers!! We paid last months utility bill like we do every month and for some reason they said that they did not receive the check and that now we need to pay last month and this month. We explained to them that they in fact cashed the check because on the bank statement it says they did and has their stamp. Then, they go on to say that we need to add everyone in the house that's 18 or older on the account or they will shut off our electricity???? It's outrageous, this company is a straight up monoply. If you don't do what they say then they will shut you down!! We have been responsible customer of theirs for a long time, always paid on time. After the way they treated us we wish we could go through someone else but we can't! They need to respect their customer's!!!!!!

Dont even bother calling customer service if you have an actual problem. Employees are demeaning, accusatory, and unhelpful. No one at this company has any skills in creative problem solving or human communication. From my personal experience, the company willingly leaves out useful and needed information. due to this I have been charged an excess of $130 in utilities I did not incur, and "nothing can be done about it" since it was "my fault for not just knowing" without being told.
I sincerely wish I could give this company negative stars for their horrible customer service skills.
The greatest thing about leaving this town will be never having to deal with the people at the City Utilities of Springfield ever again.

The customer service here is spectacular. I have called many times unable to pay my bill (due to different financial/personal reasons) and each time the representatives were understanding and kind. This is probably the only bill I can call and make arrangements for if I need to. I also love the option to pay my bill using one of the kiosks outside. It's very simple and I can get a receipt right then and there.

BBB will hear about this. I guess Trump runs this company too. Lol The worst utility company ever will not work with you will force you to pay things you don't know and if you have anything that goes out like a water heater that constantly is running on electricity because it's not working properly they will not refund you they will charge you for that all of it I had a hot water pipe coming off of the hot water tank that was leaking underneath the house did not know about it my bill is usually $80 in the summer it's a hundred and seventy they will not credit my account except for water which we all know is going to be around $20 credit this company has poor business ethics for customer service inconsiderate ignorant disrespectful and no professionalism whatsoever

For having a distinct lack of options in the Sprin...

For having a distinct lack of options in the Springfield area of power company options, its not that bad of a company. They play ball with you if you play ball with them. Are there instances where it feels like overcharging? Sometimes, but that comes with being the primary source of Power in the city. They have always worked with me at any time that I've had issues, even if its just setting up payment arrangements. They have rules, follow the rules and your golden, try to not follow the rules and not only you, but they, are between a rock and a hard place.

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is their deposit policy that increases by $50 if your utilities gets shut off. That is something they never adequately explain on purpose. Basically, if your power gets shut off (not just threatened but actually shut off) they add $50 to your 'Deposit'. So if you move, or leave town, and come back you have to make sure you're 'Deposit' is paid. Normally this is like $150 in most cities. A friend of mine's is $600. If you do not keep your Deposit 'Paid in full' , leave and come back, you have to pay that before they'll turn on any power.

That is one thing about the company I'm not a fan of. Besides that, I love them. They work more with people than most towns I've lived in.

Had a shut off notice for the 4th for $268.05. No problem, life happens when working on a budget. Paid $100 on the 24th dropping my amount to $168.05. A day later, an unexpected bill came put early, returning the $100 payment since they take 4 to 5 days to process over the weekends. I call and notify them. They said no problem, as long as the $268.05 is paid by the 4th. On the 31st, I paid $270. Today, the 12, my power was shut off. They are saying I need to pay the $100 that was returned. Why? That makes no sense. I paid over the initial shut off notice in time. So why does this extra $100 need to be paid? My shut off notice wasn't $368.05, it was $268.05. The rep on the phone admitted to seeing all the notes. She said she saw where I spoke to the first rep and the first rep explaining everything to me. But for some reason she told me wrong. But the new rep from today couldnt explain to me why or how the first rep explained it wrong! Still no power. Won't let me talk to a supervisor. Trying to get extra money from me without a purpose.

So i have been batteling with CU off and on for a year now. My roommate and i moved out of our past house and into our new one last November. We told them the dates to shut off our utilies for that house and paid our remainding balance. I recieved a phone call last December saying we hasnt paid our bill yet from dates we werent living in the house. It was $140 before the late fees. I told the company over the phone and my roommate told them in person while getting our new houses deposite etc paid the dates in which to shut off the service. So that is TWO times. TWO different days. TWO. I told them that they needed to look back into it and give me a call back because it should be in their notes, they responded with asking me to ask my previous land lord to cover it. I asked to speak with a supervisor. They never called me back or returned my phone calls. NOW this week i recieved a phone call(almost a year later) telling me how i still owed and that if i didnt pay they were going to add it to my new account with our new roommate. I told them to go back and check their notes, that we already had this conversation a year ago and I wasnt having it again. I dont know what is going on with this company, but your lack of ability to do your job is not going to cost me. You failed in more ways than one. I am disgusted by your failure to do what was asked as a City Utility company, you'd think you'd have you're stuff together. Maybe we need new supervisors? Maybe we need retraining or maybe we need to learn the simple act of putting in notes on an account and carrying out those notes. Absolutely ridiculous!

Terrible hold times. Non sympathetic staff no willingness to work with people I actually can tell you I miss the services in my previous states cause they would at least work with people on a payment plan. Monopoly gone wild and out of control. Horrible service will be really glad to move away from such a service. Now 2018 when they screw up and take an extra payment they refuse to refund it will be reporting them to the BBB. If we cancel at the bank they said they put us on Cash only. The company is run by Neanderthal of idiots!

I have found Springfield City Utilities to be prompt, courteous and diligent in response time 24/7. I am thankful for the employees who are always there for us no matter what time it is or the type of weather we are experiencing.

Literally getting us evicted from our apartment because they won't just let me pay it in my name. Update: they incorrectly imputed our apartment number and block. It took 5 different employees to realize this was the issue. Then they proceeded to try and tell me it was my fault and that they would listen to the recording and that they would back bill us if we said the correct apartment number. Guess what, back billed the next week.

Horendous service! Words can't really do it justice. Moved to MO from out of state and immediately had issues with this provider. First they told us, my girlfriend and i, we were confirmed for automatic payments, but later received a letter stating we had missed a payment. Called them up and they said it was their mistake and that there would be no late fees. Next month same thing, called them up and they said they didn't have us registered for the automatic payments and that we would have to pay the entirety of the bill including late fees. I called back a few days later where I was transferred 3 times then hung up on. I called back several more times and left messages for then to have someone call me back so that I could get this taken care of, I received no response and was called on Friday right before they closed for the day that they would be shutting off my power in Monday due to late charges. Currently in the process of dealing with this. DO NOT LIVE ANYWHERE WHERE THIS COMPANY IS THE ONLY PROVIDER!

I moved out of town, called City Utilities to cancel my service, gave them my card number, and told them to pay it off. 2 years later, I move back to springfield, and found out that I had a "final bill" of 40 dollars magically. I paid it in full as soon as I found out. Now, if I want service, they have to have an emergency contact, my place of employment, 2 phone numbers, and a 150 dollar deposit. Doesn't seem fair to me. Especially since I paid in full, on time every month for years.

If I could give this bloodsucking company less than one star it would still be too much. They are rigid, uncompromising and inhumane. These ***holes found out I was living here and insisted I pay the balance of an old account even though I was not paying the utilities. I am a senior citizen living in a very modest fixed income. I paid my old bill and now they want a $200 deposit before they'll turn the electricity bach on. If I pay them anymore I won't be able to pay my rent!!! They couldn't care less.

I would give CU a minus rating if I could. I consider the company to be morally bankrupt lacking any sense of ethical principles. They refuse to waive any fees or additional deposits for active duty service members while deployed overseas. When I called from my deployed location about an account that we still have in the area, all I got was "well that's our policy"...not a single person said "thank you for your service" and we appreciate the decade plus that you've been a customer. The company is probably one of the worst with customer service I have ever encountered in my 30 years of adult life! If they were not a monopoly and the only choice in Springfield, I'd never do business with them.

I m a 13 year Army Veteran and lived in a lot of p...

I m a 13 year Army Veteran and lived in a lot of places and I ve never had a bill this high ever in my life which is $238. I live in a newly rental apartment complex in the 65810 zip code and the apartments are no more than 5 years old and the meters here are terrible or shall I say city utilities is the worst company that takes advantage of people. I moved into my apartment April 2016 and when I first moved in I didn t have literally hardly anything is my apartment which that is still the case today and my bill at the time was about $30-$35 dollars which was reasonable since I didn t have anything in my apartment as far as electrical items and I always cut the lights off or have the lights off, then all of a sudden this company decided they needed to have a meter guy come and look at the meters and redo all the meters in the complex which resulted in having everyone s electric bill sky rocketing up. I have a neighbor who was told based on their meters being messed up and the company s issue that she had to pay 2 years of service since they redid the meters based on their mess up and error! Now my electric bill went up from that time last year which was about 3 months later it went from about $30/month to $121, then to $176, then to $195, now $238. Now mind you I did cut back on everything I was doing as far as doing laundry less and using less lights and I even had my thermostat set like I normally do it and as everyone knows Missouri weather is never consistent and it was the same way last year also. So with that being said I literally still don t have anything as far as electric items in my apartment just as I did when my electric bill went from $30-$35 to $121 so why in the hell is my bill going up more and more including everyone else who lives here in my complex and some peoples doubled and tripled??? Calling this company to get them to get off their ass and come check the meter is like talking to a door, no response or friendly customer concern! This company only cares about money and definitely not about the consumer! I can see why everyone hates this company and their rating of 1.7 is exactly right where they should be! I encourage anyone else who has a concern to rate and review them too. Social media is a powerful tool and eventually they will have to do something! If you can avoid doing business with this company and even if you had to not live in the area they provide I strongly advise you to not and go with another electric company! I think it s very inhuman to make someone keep there heat at 69 degrees in the winter time just to save a dollar in order for you to make yourself sick to create yourself another higher bill having to go to the doctor for being sick from freezing to death in your home because the electric company wants to get higher bills from you! Where does common sense come into play???

With the power outages, they had to momentarily shut down the power in our building to fix others. This is understandable, however, after FOUR HOURS, they have not turned it back on. It is 80 degrees in our house and all our food is going bad. When I called them and told them the problem, they could not give me any indication of when power would be returning, even though THEY turned it off in the first place !

I own an apartment complex in town. I ve owned it ...

I own an apartment complex in town. I ve owned it for six months. We switched property managers and want to simply move the bill to address to the new property management company. I made 7 calls to this utilities company today. Brenna would not speak about this account because I m not the name she has listed. I own the property but can t get this taken care of because she says she can t talk about other people accounts. This is crazy. I own the property. I had the previous manager call to verify that I could discuss the account and that manager called four times. In the end Brenna suggested that I pay $6,600 as a deposit and then she would open the account for me. This is odd since the bill averages $150 a month. I understand a deposit but $6600 for a property that I own and have never had a late payment is outrageous, especially since the manager represents me and my company. This is for the power in the laundry area. So now people go into Christmas not able to do laundry because this gal at the utility company doesn t want to do her job. Hands down the worst utility company I have worked with.

I hate this company so much. I moved and called CU the week of. I moved on a Sunday and my service was supposed to disconnected Monday morning and it turned out when I was paying what I thought was my last bill, I was paying first the new tenants to still have electric in my name. And I didn't pay again because that should have been my final bill. So later I bought a home and needed to get service on, they made me pay a $350 deposit claiming my xlaccount had been closed due to non payment in October. I moved out of my apartment in August. I could have proved that by having them call the company I rented from but they didn't care. Horrible company. Can't wait to buy a home somewhere else and never deal with this company again!

I am disabled and I work part time to pay my bills. My utility bill is normally due on the 24th of the month but because that is a Saturday the company decided that it was okay to take it out a day early. I had all the money in the account by 9AM and I received an email stating that my payment was declined by the bank. Now I was told that they will take out a $100 deposit plus a $25 NSF fee. I told the person my situation and they said that it s not their fault and they don t control what time the pay comes out. Well my bill says that it is due on the 23rd so I have paid my bill on the 23rd and I should have the whole day if I chose to but decided to have it in before the start of the banking day. I spoke to a supervisor that was able to put things right as a one time courtesy so this unique situation was handled professionally by a supervisor anyway.

I had a house that the lights were flickering, I called CU for assistance. They came to the house, got up on the roof, cut all the wires to the house and took the meter and left due to a problem in the meter box. Did not call me (the owner of the house) and left the young female (in the midst of a stay-at-home order) with no power, no heat (on the coldest night). They gave me no option to try to get it fixed immediately, just cut the power and left and told me I had to get a city permit before they would turn the power back on. I cannot believe they didn't call me or give me any other options before just cutting the electric to my house and leaving my tenant defenseless. This is OUTRAGEOUS!

I've personally had both fantastic as well as terrible experiences with City Utilities of Springfield. It seems pretty hit and miss regarding whether your experience will be good or bad, but it'll be either fantastic or awful, no middle ground (hence the 3-star review). I really appreciate all the helpful experiences I've had with those employees that were assistive to me, but there are some there that seem their only job is to run people off! They have a problem admitting when they've been in error, but seem content to work with you if you don't have any prior issues with them. I think service would probably be better if the business were entirely privatized, and/or if there were another provider in town to force them into being customer-oriented or losing business.

Some of the rudest people you'll ever come across over the phone. Inconsistent with the help they can provide, where one rep won't help you at all, you can call back and ask for the same help with another rep and they will help you.

Horrific experience. I have been in customer service for over 30 years, and never, NEVER ever, seen such wretched treatment of clients!!!!! The whole system needs a government review.

Worst utility company I've ever dealt with. My bill fluctuates wildly each month with unexplained new charges. Mailed a check to them and they lost it, but it had been cashed. Looks like one of their upstanding emoyees stole it from me. I thought we weren't supposed to have monopolies in this country. Apparently no one told them.

I see negative reviews but I can speak only of positive experiences with CU. Been a customer for 30 years. We get absolutely great rates and I still remember the terrible ice storm 29 years ago. CU collected all the broken trees and limbs and charged us nothing. When I have a need their customer service rarely keeps me waiting and always handles the situation to my satisfaction. CU is truly one of the reasons why I love Springfield.

A little information on this utility that has the most horrible customer service. This is a community owned utility which means the community owns it. Yeah I know you would never know that by the way the treat the community. Here is the part that will get your blood boiling. The manager of City Utilities makes more money then the President of the United States. Yeah you heard that right, last year he made almost $500,000. He is not the only one. There are over 175 employees that make between $150,000 to $200,000, normal terrible CSRs make around $50,000 to $75,000. They even have a janitor making near $70,000 a year. These salaries would be fine if we as a city didn't have one of the highest poverty rates of all. If this was truly a community owned utility then we would not see salaries like this until citizens were making enough to make ends meet. There is a specific page on a social media that starts with F for the next steps citizens are planning on taking against this bully. We will be meeting with City Council and filing numerous complaints. Oh yeah I have a recent recording of an interaction where I ask to speak with a supervisor and I am told no twice and then they hung up on me. Watch for it the local news will be airing it soon.

Had personal and currently have landlord account with City utilities and always had great experience. Good rebates for installing high efficiency HVACs/toilets etc which are easy to submit online. Easy to use online platform to review usage amount and submit payments.

Buying a house is so scary!

Buying a house is so scary!

People like Stacy make this huge step not-so-scary. She talked me through a hiccup I had with my bank and waived a late payment.

I have honestly never had a problem with City Utilities and I m happy to have them as my utilities company in Springfield, MO.

Real recognize real

Thanks again Stacy.

My son lived in a studio apartment for a year paid each months Bill and gave finalnotice of moving out in July. On September 2, an 80.change appears on his account statement. I call him to check to see of there is a mistake. They tell him this is a charge to close out the account. Never heard of such a thing! He's a student and can't really afford this nonsense! Anyone else experienced this?

Worst experience of customer service of my life. I have it on recording of a man from their customer service saying "Geez Louise lady, haven't paid your bill in 6 months just do it already."
He thought he hung up. I told him I could hear him, THEN he hung up.
Not only does it not even make sense that I couldn't have paid a bill for 6 months considering they would have shut it off forever ago, it obviously wasn't true.
For some reason they had been overcharging us, claiming we never paid. I called from the VERY beginning and got absolutely no help, and with all of those calls, no one told us they charged us an extra $25 for being "late". SIX MONTHS this went on.
The ONLY reason I got this fixed was because we had a connection to someone that worked high up in the company, and he referred us to the head of customer service. She was extremely nice and helpful. She couldn't believe it had gone on that long and no one had referred us to her. She was appalled.
They ended up refunding us nearly $200.
It was the simplest fix and everyone refused to help.
Apparently they are all in a union as well, so they cannot be fired. It's really unfortunate because the upper managers are very polite and helpful.
A heads up, if you find your bill is way high, it's possible they are charging you for something extra and not informing you of it.

City utilities is claiming I used 60,000 gallons of water last month. What a joke this organization is.

In response to this:

Blake agreed that the water usage was incorrect and that the meter reader incorrectly read my meter in April, May, June and June. Then all of a sudden, he read my meter correctly for all four months. Own up to your error!

I am a disabled veteran on a fixed income. I get paid one payment at the first of the month. I make sure all my bills are paid when this happens so that I know how much I have for food and unexpected expenses for the rest of the month. This is the ONLY company that I deal with that will absolutely not let me change my bill due date. When I set up my account I explained to them my circumstances and was assured that they wouldn't charge me until after the first but they are always charging me at the end of the month instead. Now I owe an extra fee plus a deposit that I cant afford with my fixed income. Customer service always rude when I call in.
In response to the owner... I am not asking anyone to change their route or for any specific treatment. The billing date is not an issue. It is the DUE date which is completely controlled by your company. It is a very feasible thing to change a due date by two days!!!!

A few years ago I left City Utilities a 1 star review, I've since changed my mind. Although getting ahold of someone on the phone is still next to impossible, when you do get speak to someone they're always friendly and helpful. If you have time, just go by the physical office. I've never had a bad experience there and it's usually faster to go in person than to wait on the phone for ages. Are they perfect? No. But between the online billing platform and the main office I really can't complain.
