Today I had my first experience with Springfield CU. The young lady I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful. .she gave me all the information I needed. Some before I even asked. The conversation was pleasent and brief and I was able to continue on my day. Ive seen some of the other reviews and while i am concerned with the fact that Springfield has monopolized CU wise. After today's experiance I would call my sself cautiously optimistic.

Was going to pay in Friday and they're closed for the holiday that falls on Monday and they are closed that day as well. So when is three days before Xmas a holiday...without notice to your customers...rude and unprofessional to say the least.

Aparently City Utilities is okay with FRAUD!!!!!! mother used my information on her acct and now 7 years later when I move back to springfield I have to pay $1,300.00 dollars or be homeless. Paying for an apartment I cannot live in bc I cant afford the upfront costs. Who do I contact to file a report. I have proved I never lived with her at the address at the time of service. They have no photo id no signature of mine. Just the word of my mothers landlord. The customer service was horrible, and they had no compassion. Its a sick joke one I cant afford.

I have contacted their customer service more than once about the issue it is a JOKE! I started service with CU and apparently the person who started my account didn t bill me for water. So apparently I was behind on my bills even though I have the service on electronic bills and auto pay! I talked to phill today and mentioned my situation, he said there is nothing he could do but set me up with payment plans and I said it was not my fault that I didn t get billed correctly I did my job and put my bill on auto pay and Made sure there was money for my monthly bill. I understand I used the service but the company and the agent who made the mistake needs to be hold accountable now I have to pay 533.48 at once or set payment methods just because someone did a mistake. I also called before moving to have my services changed to a new address this week, and the agent I spoke to said I didn t owe the company money and that my account balance was at 0. Today at 1:31pm I get a txt message saying I have a payment of 533.48 due. Nobody want to work with me or even apologize they understand there was a mistake on their end, but they don t care I still have to make the payment because I used the service. They need to be on the same page CU SHOULD have told me I had a balance so I could set up a payment option with them but the agent guaranteed me I had a 0 balanced. It s very frustrating having to talk to impotent and rude customer representatives from this company.

They horrible, always trying to charge you extra, turning your service off when you aren't told it's going to get turn off, cancelling payments and waiting on hold for 20 minutes just to talk to someone and they tell you they can't help you, you just need to pay it!! Does City Utilities make it a habit to forget to flip the switch back on after replacing meters? This is the second time in two days that this exact thing has happened at my apartments. It's hot, so I may be grumpy from heat, but that seems unapologetically incompetant.

This is regarding two different phone conversations I had with Linda at two different times, months apart, who handles the sprinkler system back flow testing results. She was very professional and polite and was able to help with the issues I was having and she went above and beyond any expectation I had. I don't know her at all, but from both phone calls she was extremely helpful and I felt she had empathy.

Called in to get my bill amount, for that, they need the last 4 digits of your social security number and date of birth. Did not realize they my billing amount was classified information. Furthermore, they can not tell you the amount until after the bill is printed. Surely if the bill is to be printed, the information would be visible somewhere. Years ago, in order to justify their high salaries to the customers of SPRINGFIELD, they said they hired the best and the brightest. You would think the best and the brightest could figure out a way to give the customer the bill amount before it is printed.

Terrible supervisors ones name was Jeff he was completely rude, did not listen to me talk and said if I didn't stop talking he would hang up on me. I asked what his supervisors name was and he said he didn't have to tell me that information. I said okay I will call the main number again and his supervisor Jeremy apologized and told me to email my complaint so it won't get over looked. Some have been nice but 90% of them I can tell hate their job!!!!

A few years ago when a potential water shortage (due to maintenance issues) in Springfield was an issue, CU's plan was to raise water rates on ALL customers because, in their typical monopolistic big government way the more you gouge (tax or fee) people the less they will use. Instead of targeting wasteful users who can afford an increase they planed on punishing the "customers" who were actually trying to conserve. Sure, they provide the utilities but only because it is their job and they make good money doing it (despite a not-for-profit status).

A couple of years ago about a half of our city started to get an outage almost during every havy or not so havy thunderstorm.
It looks like the City Utilities don't maintenance their equipment. Earlier it was resolved during an hour, now it takes half or almost all day.
It's ridiculous.

Please do not tell customers to wash their gas logs with soap and water. This is a sure fire way to ruin your logset. Logs should be cleaned with a can of compressed air and a super soft toothbrush gently brushing logs. Do not ever use a liquid of any kind on your logs. If you are not sure, please call Maschino's so we can assist you in the maintenance of your logset.

NO STARS HERE. I have been on HOLD for an Hour to customer service, for the 2nd time. Last week I waited and talked to them for 1.5 hours to change a simple routing number that their site would not take. The customer service rep. just said try again later. I tried 3 xs last week and it would not take again today. NOW 'we still have high call volume and the wait goes on and on and on. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

This is by far the worst utility company I've ever dealt with. We had a water leak at my house like made out bill outrageous so we set up a payment plan. We were paying 600-800 a month to try and get caught up. They ended up shutting off our water about a week ago and now they shut off everything! My grandma is on an oxygen machine and HAS to have electricity and we even have a form that has been to CU by her doctor stating that. Its not like we have anywhere else to go and now we have no way to run her machine. And CU wont turn our utilities until we pay the whole bill which is like 3000. Who the hell has that kind of money sitting around!?!?

I never received a call or notice from them that they would be doing this. Unfortunately the day they did this was the day my daughter was having surgery
I called them and explained that i was with my daughter and the gentleman said he would meet me at 5:30 to light my relight my pilots
6:00 still no one here. Called the number and girl told me they don t make appointments and he would be there sometime tonight and it may be after midnight
Again explained to her i needed to get back to my daughters house and was basically told she could not give me a time
So city utilities you need to call and let people know when you are coming
Now i am without hot water till i can make arrangements for you to get back over here. Also realize people do work during the day.

Well we have been in the same house 3 years. It has always had low water pressure. It is annoying but not worth selling the house over. I called my contractor and he explained I have to lay on the ground reach down in that hole (It is Cold and Wet today) and there is no way I am doing this.

I called the City Utilities and explained the issue and they have someone coming out today to see if the valve is half open (as it appears to be) and if that is not the problem they said they will look and see what the malfunction is so I can have our contractor come fix it.

In a previous time we found we had a water leak (Honestly do not even remember what broke) and we called them to come turn the water off until the contractor could get here. They came out and turned it off and adjusted the bill at 50%.

For sure a 5 star service. Good thing because collecting rain water for survival is likely doable in Springfield but not on my bucket list of things to do before I die.

They will feed you a bunch of crap at signing up and then completely go against everything they say you can't trust a word that comes out any employees mouth they will tell you that you can wave certain fees by doing things like paying with a debit card or signing up for paperless billing and then still charge you fees without sending you a billing statement. Please be careful if you are going to use this utility service because they're entire service is built on fraud

They only let 4 people in at a time now to pay your utility bill. Make customers wait outside in the 90 degree heat wearing a mask and dont provide any chairs for customers like myself with lower back problems. Very inconsiderate

The city mandate does not say that only 4 people can go in your huge building. City utility is restricting this number way down for their own reasons.

I m currently trying to move into a new apartment ...

I m currently trying to move into a new apartment in the same complex I m already in and I have a past due balance on my bill. I am already broke as it is from paying my deposit and rent, and I call CU in hopes that I can make some sort of deal with them to pay the past due balance on the tenth of the month (whenever I get paid) in exchange for power in the new place.
But they were unwilling to compromise or even consider the fact that I literally will be living without power for an entire week...
If I could have paid the past due balance on the bill, I wouldn t have called CU s awful customer service line. It s just insane to me that a company would care more about $$$$$, than a person having to go without water, heat, and electricity (especially in the middle of winter?)
I don t care if your system says you can t , there should still be room for compromise, especially if there s a guarantee to pay.
I don t leave bad reviews for places often, but I am beyond frustrated, and have heard so many similar stories from other Springfield citizens.

This company is literally the definition of a monopoly. I like how the community is considered their customers yet we have no choice and are forced to use their services. This company will refuse to work with you and could care less about the community. They would rather take your last dollar and see you homeless than work with you to try and get their money, which is absolutely all this company does. Literally a cancer to our community here in the Ozarks. I can only pray one day this will change because it's truly just sad. Just look at all these awful reviews, doesn't take a scientist to figure out they are basically like the mob was in the prohibition era. How they manage to stay in the lines of the law baffles everyone.

Recently moved into a new house (transfer) and told CU that we needed the power to remain on at our former address (new rental). Unfortunately, the power was turned off?!? Followed protocol with contacting customer service (before and after) and any/every option begins and ends with more money. An emergency fee (of $30 restores) could be paid and someone could be here between now and 5/6pm. Services could be restored tomorrow (no emergency fee), but there s a transfer fee ($20) .
There s some odd job work to be done at this residence and power is necessary, but geez! If this is how they value my business and appreciate my loyalty, I d hate to see how they treat their enemies.
Business is business, but good business begets loyalty.

I see a lot of negative reviews here. I can't speak for everyone, and I haven't lived in Springfield for too long, about 8 months now. I can say that I have had a good experience. I always get my paper statement in the mail and my online account is always easily accessible and allows me to know what my payment will be and plan accordingly. I also have auto payments set up so I never miss a payment. My electricity has only gone out once and lasted for less than a minute. My electric bills are very reasonable and affordable. The few times I have called, the people I spoke with were very nice. Maybe it's different if you have a house (I live in an apartment) but I have had no issues and I am honestly surprised there are so many negative reviews

Think you have dealt with terrible companies before? This has to be, hands down, the WORST company I have ever met, period, 200%. They do not deserve a single star. Every time you call you will receive a different answer for the same question. I was lucky enough for City Utilities to demand a $800 deposit because of an old roommate I no longer live with. I was promised the deposit back in the form of a check after 12 months of on time payments. Surprise surprise, no check coming! They get away with lying and cheating the resident of Springfield because they have a monopoly. If you explain to them how terrible they are you will get this response: "if you don't like us move to Nixa and use their utilities." Friendly, caring folks...

Just thought I d follow up on that and confirm that they are STIll INDEED the worst company ever, and I curse myself everyday that I am their customer. You shouldn t give us an email to reach out to a supervisor. A GOOD supervisor would reach out personally to their paying customers and take care of their concerns.

I received no help over my issue over the holidays and was penalized over a payment that WAS NOT LATE due to an expired card number. Called to pay over the phone the day it was due, and there was already a fee attached to my bill that same day. Melanie would not help resolve after I called twice. As mentioned before, holidays are hard, and thanks to her and this company in general, my holidays were even more stressful financially.

You only have to talk to a robot for 2 questions and the customer service agents were extremely kind, prompt and helpful. Writing this review took more effort than changing my address on file. *****

Im on disabiliy, Been paying $300 or more a month for about 6 months now..the actual bill runs around 150+ monthly.
Because being late got disconnected & paid $350. to reconnect...the late fees are as much as the actual bill. Im really behind now cause it never goes down.This Utility Company is worse than borrowing from a loan shark. Disconnected again because I cannot afford to pay the $358. Again ???
This bill keeps compounding and getting bigger. They do not work with you and apply payments to the bill....it mostly goes to late fees. Customer Service is really rude....never heard of paying 350 for 150 bill every cycle.

My renters didn t pay their last utility bill after moving out and instead of city utilities calling me to let me know there was an unpaid bill, they waiting until 4 years later to have a debt collector call me, which harmed my credit score. All it would have taken was one phone call to to me and I would have happily taken care of the $72 bill. I am extremely frustrated with how city utilities handled this.

First off they hired a tree trimming service to trim the TREES in my back yard by the power line. The tree trimming company without any notice destroyed ALL the bushes and plants "Not just the trees". All CU did after i complained over and over was send me a certificate good for the purchase of new bushes "That I have to go get and plant". That was this summer and today i woke to NO power in my house. Come to find out they were doing preventive maintenance "again no warning". When the power did return it tripped circuit breaker. This could have easily messed up my computers and electronic devices. Yes i have surge protectors but that is not a guaranty! If i had been notified in advance i could have unplugged it all. I feel like CU dose NOT care about me or my property. This is not a third world country yet!

This is a city offical owned corporate business. This is based off what i have been told by city utilities themselves, corrupt business in my opinion. They want @$800 for ONE missed payment from when i was in the psychiatric ward. I have been with them since 1999. My whole family pays on time. I emailed our mayor Ken McClure about the weather law that states they cannot shut your power, water, or heat off during November 1st thru March 31st but yet i am without these right now. I feel, since we pay so many darn taxes and its also city officials that get the money apparently, that they should not be allowed this privilege of deciding to shut someone who is struggling off. I have tried to ask them for a automatic payment to get these turned back on but i keep hitting a brickwall. I know someone else they want them to pay $650 deposit!! There are several long time customers I have heard of and know that have had issues when they fell on hard times. Not a way to treat the people in the town you live in. Or do they even live in our fine city?

I am so very thankful for the service that City Utilities provides to Springfield. Every time I have had an issue, I have had a great experience. Today I came home work, 5pm on a Friday, to a power line sizzling on a tree and they came out and fixed it in the dark. They go above and beyond and are always friendly.

I do not owe them any money, I have a bank account with their CREDIT UNION and even offered to have the money automatically with drawn from my account each month....the answer was still no. They had to have $600, and no they could not split up the payment on the bill. What kind of company treats their customers this way?? The kind that is the only option in the Springfield City Limits. I can tell you, after all the horrible reviews, i was quite surprised to be treated quite courteously and with respect. Pleasant surprises are nice.
Been a client for over 3 years and really have nothing to complain about. They gave me services and I paid for them. The process weren't ridiculous, either.

My outlets in my kitchen, garage, and outside don't work. And I assumed, "hey maybe I should talk to the city utilities to come check it out."
Well, I called them, 3 times. And each time I spoke to a different person. ALL THREE people were rude and useless. The first woman I spoke to said someone should come over in an hour and check them out.
2 hours passed, no one showed up.
So I called again, the next woman I spoke to was SUPER rude. And by the way, her name was Brenda. Such a rude woman. She seriously spoke to me like I was dumb, and she kept questioning my call, for example she kept saying things like, "what are you talking about?" Or "Are you sure you're calling the right company?" Or "Are you sure you're allowed to call me?" Cause I live with my parents.... I'm not a child ma'am. Also, it's not my fault the outlets don't work. She said "we do not deal with outlets, as long as electricity is in the house, our job is done." Wrong. If I don't have electricity running through EVERY SINGLE OUTLET IN THIS HOUSE, then no, your job is NOT done. Actually, you failed your job. Cause I'm paying for the bill, there better be electricity running. Everywhere. She was rude and not helpful whatsoever.
So I called again, and I spoke to a man, the man on the phone said he would have a guy come help me out as soon as they figure out their shift change... no one came. At all.
I wasn't as mad about it at first cause I saw that the outlets outside were the only ones acting up, but now it's the garage outlets, and all the food in my freezer, in my garage, is spoiled cause there is no electricity flow. Now I can't even bake or cook cause the outlets in my kitchen don't work. And I went through ALL the hassle to put up lights on the house for Christmas, and they don't even work. So, THANK YOU CITY UTILITIES FOR NOTHING. AND FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO HELP ME.
You guys suck. Can't wait to move and get away from this lousy company.
And by the way, I should not have to call you THREE DIFFERENT TIMES to get you to do your job. That's real sad, and pathetic. And that's why you have a 1.8 stars.

Last weekend (1/12/20) one of our neighbors smelled gas outside and called CU. CU employees came out and worked in the freezing cold (an dark) for hours to resolve the issue. The communication about the issue and the service was excellent. He promised they would fix the issue that night and they did. The gentleman on duty said he was the only on call person that weekend, so whoever he was, please thank him for the excellent service.

When I said I Can payed them Wednesday JANUARY 30 2019 mean while Where getting ready to get hit With Artic blast! By Monday morning! And I'm wonder. How. Going to keep the power on when I payed them 200$ at the top of the month!!!

Not helpful. Prematurely turned our water off when we moved then charged us a fee to turn it back on. Couldnt tell us when or who would be by to turn it back on, only that it would be sometime during the 8 hour shift and the house would need to be unlocked.

We had a power outage sometime during the night that affected just our house and the house next door. I reported online about 6:30 am. We live out in the country so I figured it would be quite a while before anyone responded. To my surprise, a truck and one lineman arrived within 30 minutes but could not fix the problem at the Transformer. He came to the door and told me someone else would be here soon, which was nice communication. Within a half an hour four truck showed up with several lineman and they had the problem fixed very soon. Quite happily surprised with the prompt service! Thank you!

I'm going to get straight to the point. These people need to investigated for their business practices. The rep I spoke with did reduce me back down to the due amount but not before my finances were thrown out of wack. The only notification I received was that my bill had in fact been paid. It's a good thing I check my bank statements because my utilities probably would have been shut off without my knowing. Unfortunately this is the only company I have to choose from. I do not trust them one bit.
