They have the worst customer service, I wanted to cancel my subscription and couldn't get through on the phone and can't get them to respond to an email. My paper went from $22 a month to $35. This paper is not worth it!!

This paper has to be the most poorly managed paper in the midwest. I have repeatedly called in reporting that my carrier refuses to place the paper in the tube the Star attached to my mail post. Each time I have called I can count on a good 30 minutes of being on hold. They take my complaint and assure me that something would be done and absolutely nothing changes. I have been told the manager would call me but that doesn't happen either. The Pulliam family would not have stood for such incompetence. Also, the paper is now basically obituaries, legal notices and non important articles. When I take into account that the Star is now a part of the SUPERPAC for the Democrat party it helps explain why the Star is considered such a joke.

The new e edition of the 'Star is unuseable unless you don't mind going through 5 or 6 steps to do something that should take 2. Why should I have to download a page to get something that is readable? I can read the NY Times e edition in 2 clicks. The old e edition of the STAR was much easier to use but did have bugs. Did you test this new e edition on some average users before you released it?

A newspaper should educate residents about what is happening nationally, even globally, not just dig to find unimportant things happening locally. This "news"paper not worth the paper it's printed on.

As a long time resident of Indianapolis, the Indy ...

As a long time resident of Indianapolis, the Indy Star of today is nothing what it used to be. Very little journalism (thank you Gannett), too many ads and pictures, old news, downloaded articles from USA today. You wonder how the Star executives feel being driven by the bottom line every day, and yielding to a money driven enterprise that hardly even qualifies for newspaper. The paper, frankly, is an embarrassment to central Indiana. But like every other money driven enterprise, the money is paramount to everything. Gannett ruined so many good papers around the country. Reminds me when GM, Firestone and Standard Oil bought up all the inter-urban street cars (they were convicted in federal court for conspiracy) then promptly tore up the track and sold the cities diesel choking buses. I'm choking on the Star!

I have finally given up. $51+tax a month for a paper that has had a missed delivery at least one day every month for the past six months and has hardly any worthwhile news information isn't worth it. And I don't want to talk to someone in the Philippines who keeps telling me they are having technical difficulties and can't answer a few simple questions. I will keep the digital access for now....

Paper never delivered on time. Today it is 930am and still no paper. Indystar doesn't really care because they farm out the delivery and have no control over when or if it is delivered. Raise the rates and not worry about the customer. I finally quit calling to complain, it does no good.

I work at a property that does not allow soliciting, and our property is clearly marked so; however, we have a young man by the name of Anthony, and an older gentleman who have come to our property the last two years, even after the police have been called for them trespassing. These solicitors are forcing themselves into our apartment homes, and not leaving until we submit some kind of payments. We have had numerous complaints in the office of feeling violated and rightly so! As I am trying to get a hold of the office, I have been on hold for 50 minutes. This is very bad exposure for the newspaper.

They overcharged my account repeatedly. When confronted about it, they admitted to the overcharging and said they would credit my account and honor my cancellation. They did neither and then tried to tell me later that they did NOT overcharge my account. Also, they have the worst, slowest customer service imaginable. Because they refused to respond to my repeated requests to speak to someone, I was forced to dispute the charges with my CC company.

This is explicit fraud. Someone should go to jail over this.

It is a shame that when I get on the website all I see is people wanting to cancel their subscription and not being able to get a live person. I can do everything else on the website but cancel my subscription. I did hold on for an hour and 15 minutes and all the guy wanted to do was try to keep me. I told him it was not personal but I was tired and just wanted it cancelled and if there had of been anything they could have done to keep me that over an hour hold messed that up. He then hung up on me. I decided to call a different department. The lady that answered could not help me but said she would pass my information on. Someone called me back and I was unable to answer the phone. They left no name just that they were from the IndyStar and I could call the 800 number if I still needed assistance. SMH.

Worst customer service ever! Can't get them use their own chat system. Phone says due to extenuating circumstances no one is available to talk and to use automated options. Try to use automated system to cancel subscription - can't use automated system for that... Indy Star this is all because you want to shove "Premium Editions" down my throat and charge me whatever the going rate at that time. I DON"T WANT YOUR PREMIUM EDITIONS!!! Didn't ask for them, won't pay for them. No wonder people don't subscribe to the paper anymore. I truly feed bad for the people working for this company. I use to love reading the paper and now I can't cancel fast enough!

If it comes to only reading the paper online I will discontinue my subscription and go without.

Everything about my experience with Indy Star has ...

Everything about my experience with Indy Star has been absolutely abysmal. Allow me to list everything wrong with Indy Star

1) I was told I was being signed up for a 2 month FREE trial to Indy Star that would expire at the end of said 2 months. After this "trial" started, I did not even receive a paper for 5-6 months. Even after I started receiving said paper, it was spotty and inconsistent

2) I looked back at my back records, and Indy Star had been charging me since October 2016 when my trial was supposed to begin. Very unprofessional and upsetting.

3) There is no option to cancel your subscription online.

4) You cannot cancel your subscription in person at their headquarters.

5) You cannot cancel your subscription via email

6) The representatives who answer your help emails say there is "nothing they can do" about cancelling your subscription. The only option is to cancel via their 800 number.

7) Their callback phone option is broken

8) I called 3 times and wait times for each were 45-60 minutes.

The ONLY thing that I appreciated was the customer service once I actually got through to them on the phone. The lady I worked with was delightful.

Moral: DO NOT SUBSCRIBE to the Indy Star unless you NEVER plan on unsubscribing.

I hope you find this helpful.

I came across a promotional booth for the Indy Star at a grocery store. I signed up because i would like to read the paper on the weekend and support media, plus there was a $15 grocery gift card promotion for signing up. It turned out that the gift cards i was given had a $0 balance and i am being charged a monthly rate much higher than what i was quoted, and so far all customer service has done is offer me an account credit. Beware of the lying kiosk salesmen and this shady company.

I signed up at a kiosk at Kroger for a trial of the Indy Star and they started taking my money from my credit card. I was informed by my card company that it isn't freud because I know who it charging my account, that they can only dispute the charges. They suggest I be sure to cancel the subscription of the newspaper. I cannot get through to customer service to cancel. Now I'm thinking I'm going to have to report my card stolen so I can get another card number. I don't know how else to stop this. I highly recommend never to sign up at a kiosk. You will get scammed!

They offer the digital edition at low monthly cost...

They offer the digital edition at low monthly cost. They only will accept a credit card. They don t tell you ,anywhere in the ad that when the monthly term you bought expires you are billed at regular rates . They don t say what those rates are nor is there any information on when or if you can cancel. So every aspect of this transaction is an adversarial encounter. Their customer service staff seems to be primarily overseas. So understanding their end of the communication whether verbal or written is at best bizarre. From these communications you will learn that English is not their first language.
I politely say, in my opinion, stay away from this newspaper. Draw your own conclusions about the journalistic quality of this newspaper from this conduct. My opinion if it was a newspaper you d probably like they d know it and would not need this practices to gain readership

Did not receive Sunday paper 10.16.16. Called at 8:35 a.m. and told paper would be delivered. WAS NOT DELIVERED. Customer service closes at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Monday morning, 10.17.16 - I've called three times this morning, and waited for a representative (35 minutes this last time), only to have the Star disconnect the call before I spoke with anyone. The last message was "an unusually heavy call volume" and "wait time of 34 - 55 minutes." I'm holding for the FOURTH time this morning.
Seriously wondering why I'm still paying for a subscription...and how much longer I will do so with such lousy customer service.
By the way, this is the third time this has happened in the last three months.

Ever since they changed a few years ago, they are not producing quality news anymore. My delivery rates was 34%. Lots of missed papers, poor costumer service, and overall not what they used to be. The Chicago Tribune make the Star look pathetic. Here is a great example of a great newspaper that became greedy.

Been a Thur/Sun subscriber for approximately past 6 months-have had multiple times where paper was not delivered. Call # listed for problems and get message that account will be credited...BUT I WANT MY PAPER. It used to be that either carrier or his supervisor would delivery missing paper late, but last few times this has not happened, even after fighting thru system to speak to an individual and them promising it would be handled. Service has gone downhill over the years.

Website and customer service line are terrible. System forces you to speak with a representative due to inadequate self service features. Hold time is 30 plus minutes and then you are connected to a noisy call center. Very, very outdated system. Equates to still getting a newspaper delivered I guess.

what in the blinkety blank is going on? I would have fired whoever is in charge of the puzzle page on Sundays because they screwed up big time yesterday, 4/23/17 and now today I cannot even access my paper on line to print out all my puzzles which is the reason I pay for this paper.
and now it will not even allow me to post this review. Found I had to add a star to be able to post it but would have taken away stars if I could have.

I only subscribe to the weekend delivery, which is Sunday only. I frequently don't receive the paper or it is delivered in a plastic sleeve on the ground and is ruined because of rain or snow. I never called to complain - that is on me. However, I just realized that I was billed $12, $22, $28 different months. I understand there maybe be 5 weeks some months but going from $12 to $28? That is a huge jump. When I questioned them it was because they were "enhanced" issues? So I'm paying for more inserts? Isn't that what your advertisers pay for? When I tried to cancel the person I spoke with sounded a little condescending as if I should know they were "enhanced". Good bye Indy Star!

Poor poor communication with their customers. It took me 9 different phone numbers to actually reach "someone". Part of the problem was alleviated after 3-4 months. But part of the billing problem is still unresolved. Every number I call has to "leave a message and we will contact you soon!" We may have to turn this over to a lawyer to get it resolved. They even admitted to their error but have never finished the process, nor completed the credit due! My advice; don't ever consider doing business with IndyStar, StarMedia, Gannett Corp. or whoever they are now!

If I could give them 0 stars I would. I signed up ...

If I could give them 0 stars I would. I signed up for a discounted annual digital subscription, and decided at the end of that period not to continue. Well over a week before the subscription expired, I found the first unauthorized charge to my credit card. I first tried going through chat support, but they lied about what they were able to do and said I couldn't be refunded because the amount was too small. However, after calling in, they said it wasn't a problem and refunded me that charge. At this point, I thought the headache was over. However, a few weeks later, I received another mysterious charge to my account. After calling in again, I was told there was no reason for the charge and it would be refunded back to my credit card shortly and I'd get a confirmation email. Over a week later, no action has been taken, and at this point I've filed a dispute against the company with my credit card company. So unless you love spending lots of time on the phone waiting (once was on hold over 45 minutes) and talking with support specialists, I'd suggest you stay as far away from this company as you can.

Why do I rate this Indy Star as average newspaper? I must admit i am addicted to reading newspapers daily. Too much advertisements take up the pages...saying about 3/4 of the whole section of a newspaper seems on advertisements. I know Indy Star needs money. The news are great especially the wonderful exposed investigations on Adult Protectives Services. I am so HAPPY about the state's approved budget of 1.1 millions added to APS!!!! Please be aware of these people's business practices. My billing went from a $3.99 special to $9.99 after the special rate. The following month they did another increase to $12.99. I called immediately and requested a cancellation of my subscription as I felt $12.99 is to much for a 2 day a week paper. I was informed that my refund would be processed and I should see it soon. After nearly 3 weeks I called back and was informed I only had a $5.31 credit on my account and no refund is issued for less than $10.00 after explaining what had transpired it was escalated to some manager and I was once again informed that I would receive a full refund and I should see it shortly. Today is call number three to Deidre this time after being on hold for 61 minutes, I am once again informed that I only have a credit for $5.31 and no refund will be issued and she also refused to escalate to management to help resolved this BS issue.

At this point it is no longer the issue of my 12 bucks but rather my concern for how many folks are being ripped off by these unethical business practices.

Please beware and ensure you check your bank statements often to make sure you to are not a victim. Also note that I will post reminders frequently to help as many folks as possible.

UPDATE, UPDATE: After a six month wait today I noted a credit from these guys for the full $12.99 they owed me in my account.
Still don't trust them nor will I ever subscribe..

I have had a subscription since July and only recieved 3 papers. Called 4 times and countless emails. 1st i sat on the phone line for 32 mins and never talked to a person had to listen to the same insiders commercial over and over. Then called 2 other times on the October 16th they were suppose to credit my account and give me a refund never got it and they didn't cancel liked they were suppose to. Called again October 25th to see why I still haven't received a refund and they cancelled my account was told my account was cancelled for the 28th. Tried to get me to keep getting the paper. Why would I want to do that considering they do not reply to online issues, emails, or sitting on the phone forever hoping to speak to a person!!!! Worse customers service ever!!!! Do not waste your time or money. Considering everything is going to online you would think they would care a little bit more about the printed subscriptions. If I could give a zero or negative stars I would.

The most absurd and pathetic customer service ever! For 4 weeks my father has not been receiving his Thursday-Sunday papers. Found out the Indianapolis Star is using a 3rd party vendor OUT OF SOUTH CAROLINA!! What ever happened to patronizing your own state?? Address fixes don't get made. Late deliveries when he was missed don't happen. I've spent over 2 hours on the phone in the last 4 weeks, and the nursing home staff have spent at least that in trying to track down a paper for him. Paper is missing many times and wet other times due to the carrier never using our paper tube which I have asked them to do multiple times. Also it is late almost daily now. You can hardly talk to a human now when you call. Also, when I have sometimes I get someone who is incompetent. But the customer service has gone down hill a lot over the years. When I am missing a paper they will give me a credit if I get through to someone but never offer you to bring another one like they used to do. Also, last week I tried three times to use the automated system to report my missing paper and it would not work. It kept saying my two different phone numbers I tried were invalid! today my paper is wet again due to not being put in the tube on even a rainy day. I am considering cancelling my subscription after getting it for many many years.

My wife and I travel periodically. It is very difficult now to navigate the website to find the place where we can put a hold on home delivery, and they almost never get it right--when we get home, we are both shocked if the paper is delivered on the date it's supposed to start again. Last time, I put a hold on it online, and my wife (who apparently still has faith in the people she talks to there) did it on the phone--and the paper was still delivered for the 5 days we were gone.....Also, there is no longer a place on the website to leave/email a comment or request: for 11 years at this house, the paper was put in the tube, and now it's thrown on the driveway or grass. When the very thin plastic hits the driveway, it rips, so the paper gets wet anyway. Don't know how to contact our deliver person directly.....Also, why is the daily Ft. Wayne paper bigger every day than the "paper of record" in our capitol city?

Are there negative stars for service?? Until several years ago the paper was delivered by a carrier who lived in the neighborhood and prided herself on being on time and putting the paper on the porch, out of the
rain and snow. Now it shows up after 9 a.m., if at all, never on the porch.
How can you run a business this way??

This company sucks on customer service was on hold for over 2 hours and still no service paid for service and never received paper after 4 months paper shows up and still received a bill tried to contact them to cancel this paper and still was put on hold for ever. I did not even want to leave any stars. Left a message on the Vice President phone and still no results. One of the papers was wet and tried to report that and no luck.

Horrible is all I can say...and we even sent a check each year to our carrier in Dec. When it rains our newspaper is usually a wet paper log. It took me 3.5 hours to cancelled the newspaper as they "click" me off twice. The Customer service people however always very nice...they are in SC I believe. The local Indy Star will NEVER call you if you have a problem. All we wanted was a dry paper & they could put into our mailbox newspaper slot. See below our "slot". Not going to use them until someone calls us...so it maybe never....

Called to discontinue our subscription had difficulties communicating due to the language barrier which seem to reinforce my feelings about the quality of service and writing of what used to be a newspaper and has now become just a liberal platform. I would not take a subscription to this paper if it was given to us for free

just became a new subscriber for the Thursday and Sunday paper. I received my 1st thursday paper however I didn't receive my Sunday. I have tried calling the customer service 800 number as well as direct number and am currently waiting on live chat. My live chat has been open for almost 2 hours with no response. When I call the phone numbers the automated system is absolute trash and keeps disconnecting me. However they were right on time to take their money out of my account. Im about to cancel a subscription I just started last week. Seriously, what kind of bs customer service is this!!! Sooooo disappointed! come on indystar get it together!!!!

Delivery issue!! Try and call and report! Computer voice can t understand. Always closed Promises to credit don t happen. Cost of paper now over $50. A mo. Not worth it being a senior citizen. I just want my paper news NOT e-news. No matter how much I report and explain , nothing changes. Just going to cancel. Not worth this aggravation.
