Gross incompetence
There are a few businesses where specificity, accuracy and professionalism matter a great deal, as the stakes are higher than they may be innately in other industries. I can say, for example, that if the folks at the blood bank were as accurate and professional as ServiceLink is with your real estate transaction, we'd have a serious, serious problem.
They are late, uncommunicative, and wholly incompetent in the handling of such serious matters. Even worse, in the decisive moment at closing you can bet they will be entirely unreachable, either by phone, email or any other means.
They dragged their feet on obtaining our deed after their own screw up of issuing it in the incorrect names. They made no contact with us on the day of the closing until the appointed meeting time had already passed. Three hours late, they assigned a local attorney to be the settlement agent and notary, who was put in the unfortunate position of WAITING FURTHER STILL for our documents.
When the documents finally did arrive, they had the entirely wrong municipality listed as payee for the taxes in escrow. I should think that in any real estate transaction, one of the most basic piece of information one must get right is the PHYSICAL LOCATION OF THE PROPERTY IN QUESTION.
Avoid, avoid, avoid. Always ask your lender who they use for this service, and if it's ServiceLink, run, don't walk, to your nearest real estate attorney.
