Just APPLY AND STAY IN Maryland or DC and get your compact MULTISTATE nursing license there. YOU WILL FIND MARYLAND AND THE MARYLAND STATE BOARD TO BE A PLEASANT, TROUBLE FREE GREAT EXPERIENCE. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THE MARYLAND STATE BOARD OF NURSING FOR 30 YEARS, AND THEY ARE EASY TO DEAL WITH, PROFESSIONAL AND ALWAYS EFFICIENT AND PLEASANT. WITH VIRGINIA COMMUNICATION IS NONEXISTANT . THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT TO BEING A VIRGINIA REGISTERED NURSE.

Whether you call or show up in person, the staff is cold and rude. They act like they can't be bothered to help anyone and the answers given are very inconsistent with each other. WORST BON experience I've had and I have 6 different licenses.

Once again, another HORRIBLE experience with VBON!...

Once again, another HORRIBLE experience with VBON!! I called today to check on the status of licensure verification from my home state that was emailed to VBON on July 15. The lady on the other end of the phone was very rude and nasty! I have NEVER experienced this level of nastiness all within one establishement! I have called the VBON well over 10 times within the last month and every last person I spoke with was rude!! When I attempt to explain what I need, they cut me off with a very nasty attitude! I left a message for a supervisor to return my phone almost one month ago and I have yet to receive a call back! I have researched online trying to see who is over this establishment, I have sent emails that have gone unanswered! If anyone reading my review has any insight on anyone else I can speak with please let me know! This has been one of the worst experiences I have EVER had!

Moving from from California to Virginia and trying to find out what I need an you are waiting on hold for hours I have yet to have anyone answer or you get a busy signal I'm calling everyday it's ridiculous. So frustrating so I've done all my paperwork background an the website says it can't take up to 30 days for everything to be reviewed and to not call if you do it will so down the process!! really how do they expect people to make a living while waiting it even takes 30-45 business working days to get an answer for a temporary license

Do you like being on hold for more than 45 minutes at a time? GREAT, because this is the place for you. With such an efficient system, no wonder there is a massive nursing shortage. The VBON is a disgrace to the field.

Not even worth a STAR. They don't even answer the phone!!! I sat on hold for 20 minutes at 2pm on a Friday only to get no response. I let the phone ring 100 times.
DOES ANYBODY WORK HERE? WHAT A DISGRACE OF A GOVERNMENT SERVICE. CAN WE ASK THE GOVERNOR TO RE ASSIGN THE APPOINTED IDIOTS WHO WORK HERE.

Overall the Board of Nursing is a sham and really couldn't care less about helping the people who call them. On 4 of my attempts to get answers about my RN application I was given almost no explanation, an attitude, and I have been hung up on. However there was ONE person who made the biggest difference. A woman named Taylor was finally able to give me an answer on why my application has not been processed and helped me find a way to get it moving. She is a BLESSING and was such a joy to talk to. The Board needs more people like her who actually would like to help people, and not give them an attitude or hang up on them.

Horrible customer service! A typical call wait time is 15 minutes and then you can expect your call to be dropped when you get transferred since no one knows the answers to your questions.

I wish I could give less than one star. The individuals answering phone calls are cold and uncooperative. They refuse to help give any information or assistance for how to proceed for getting a license. Their responses seem scripted and apathetic. The online system is not much better, it is slow to update and basically useless. It as if anyone on the other side of a screen or phone doesn't understand that an individuals livelihood depends on this licensing procedures. Expect nothing but disappointment when dealing with this place and maybe you won't be heartbroken when you have to deny 5+ job offers because the processing of documents takes so long.

Take a month or more to send a letter stating that you are eligible to work for 90 days until you pass NCLEX. DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE after waiting for over and hour!! Took my money ASAP, but dragging their feet to send me an email saying that I'm eligible to work!! VA board of nursing needs to get it together ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! Then waited 30 minutes to speak to someone that told me the same BS I seen online!!!!!! I want my freaking paper!!!

I have already been a licensed nurse through the VA Board of nursing. I just applied to get my massage therapy license as I passed the MBLEx and massage therapy school (massage is overseen by the Board of Nursing). A woman I spoke with today at the VA Board of Nursing insisted I get fingerprinted again for my new license application. Their systems are inefficient. Fingerprints don t change.

Unprofessional and rude. Been waiting 30 days for my license to transfer from out of state and when I called to talk to someone, then then told me 30-45 days not including weekends or holidays and wouldn t tell me if I have everything in on my end. I ll be out of work for 2 months before it s done living on my savings and minimum wage

The Phone never works. Everyone says they just drive to Richmond. The receptionist is nice, when I drove their in person. The staff seem non personal, distant, cold and judge mental. I have toured prisons that seemed more open and personnel. Had a hard time transferring my license from a compact state. Had to go back to get information on status of transfer. My son in law moved from a non compact state and had no problems.

Spoke to a very pleasant woman there and was given some very helpful advice on how to continue my application process. Start your phone call being pleasant and you should not have a hard time on the phone with these people at all.

I reapplied for my CNA license back in November and we re going into April and I still have not received my license, I have called and I m always on hold, they are the most unhelpful people I ve ever met. One lady told me that she would call me back and I never heard from her again. They cashed my check Dec. 3rd and here we are in April and I still don t have my license. If I could give this place negative stars I would.

I would give a zero if possible. Unbelievable rude "customer service" if that's what they call it. It's not a one time incident either, I have been treated rudely multiple times on the phone.

I have not had a great experience with contacting the VA Board of Nursing. If I do not get a busy signal, the wait time is over an hour without anyone picking up. My desk phone one day stopped counting at 99 minutes. I think here should be an expedited process for those applying who already have jobs, especially in rural underserved areas of the state with significant provider shortages. The license is only one step in the process of being able to practice in Virginia. This 30-45 business day wait time could result in missing the monthly credentialing meeting thus extending wait times even further before entering practice. If fees need to be increased to have more staff, then it should be considered. Maybe the process could even be started prior to graduation where the application has been reviewed and the only steps remaining would be sending a final transcript and certification from the various certification organizations.

Completely unprofessional and extremely rude. It has been three months since I registered and they still have not updated my authorization to test. Every single time I call I get nothing but attitude. I didn t even do anything except say hello. This is extremely frustrating. Pearson Vue has been waiting for the VBON. I paid my dues. I waited three months. I do not call back to back. I call once a month to check my status. This last phone call lady screamed me out because I wanted a definite answer if I should call back after 24-48 hours. If you hate your job so much please go elsewhere. There are plenty of people who could use a job. There s no reason, NO FREAKING REASON to be rude and nasty.

The staff are nice enough, when you can get them to answer the phones. I've been calling to find out the reason my license renewal for several weeks. Somehow I am mysteriously disconnected every time after about 15 minutes on hold. I have yet to speak with an actual person.

Extremely rude and horrible customer service. I have been waiting for my ATT for over the allotted time given and then she tells me they have a high number of applicants. I m not sure why that is my problem, considering I have given all of my paperwork and paid the money. This place is extremely unprofessional and it s ridiculous that my career is at the hands of these lazy individuals.

Was told the wait time was about an hour and 5 mins and guess what it s been pass the wait time and I m still on hold all I want to do is get my licenses situated and be done with all of this the last few agents I spoke to were kinda sarcastic and a lil rude/ghetto smh why lord just why I m going to pray by the grace of god I get a professional human being on the other end of this phone because I don t have the patience for unprofessional people I really don t I m just trying to be respectful but for some reason people want to try me today I m going to just take a deep breath and sigh and say a prayer and Amen I m hanging up this is ridiculous now that automated voice system is stuck in my head your call is very important to us please wait for next available agent please let me get Taylor on the other end of this phone

Tried calling several of their listed numbers and I kept getting a message that said that the number was not in service. No other way to contact them besides email. Who knows how long it will be before someone contacts me.

Every time I call, I have to plan on staying on hold for a minimum 45-55 min. I have licensure in MO and NE and neither one of those take anywhere near this long. Why no call back system?

The people on the phone are quite rude, and disgusting. I would think they could get some people working their that are kind, and respectful. Considering this is a department of nursing in VA.

I applied as a repeat tester back in February. I sent in all documentation required, and requested an accommodation with documentation submitted for that as well. I sent that Feb. 27th. It wasn't received until March 14th and they took the FULL 30 business days (45 days total) to email me. I got an email from a staff member stating that I wouldn't receive my ATT until May 21st or AFTER. No specific date, and the reason was because the accommodation needed to go before the board at their next meeting. Anxious as I am, it's May 22nd and I've yet to get an ATT or approval/denial decision for the accommodation. I have emailed and called twice and I was told that because it was "board week" I would have to wait an additional 24 hours and it may not even be decided by then. This is the most ridiculous situation I've ever been in. I've never been more frustrated and that's definitely NOT good for test taking. They need to get this figured out, obviously it's an issue considering the abundance of 1 star reviews. I will continue to update this with time frame.

Whoever answers the phones for questions about Registered Nurse licensure is EXTREMELY rude for no reason. This is unacceptable. I am so disappointed in this BON. I don t like to leave bad reviews, but there was no reason for the way the lady treated me on the phone just now.

Unprofessional and rude. I waited over a week for someone in the office to receive a fax. Over a week. When I called to check on it I spoke to a rude woman who told me what I can do. Unprofessional because I told the licensing specialist over a week ago and I have the emails telling her that her listed phone number is not working which indicates to me that she either purposefully put and continues to post an incorrect phone number in her email or that she just doesn't care. I'm still waiting. This is week 2.

The online system says the application for a massage therapist license takes up to 30 days. The telephone systems says 30-45 BUSINESS days. Both time frames are RIDICULOUS and extremely frustrating. The board authorizes a 90 day provisional license to work until your license is processed. The regulation says that the provisional license must be received by the applicant in writing. However, I can't get in touch with anyone to actually issue it to me! I've called and emailed the board and keep getting directed to Mrs. Latasha Austin, who just doesn't respond. At all. I don't understand how a NURSING board could be this unproductive and SLOW!!! It's beyond frustrating. What are we expected to do for 45 business days if we can't work?! And what's the purpose of having a provisional license if we can't get in touch with anyone to issue it?! I wish I could just cancel my application and receive a full refund instead. I would rather take the extra steps to work in DC.

Applied for my license 7/1. Board certification paper work sent 7/1. On 8/5 received email that they were missing board certification verification. Had certification verification resent on 8/5. Have called every 48 hours since then and no one can tell me if they ve received the email from the certification board. I keep being told that a supervisor will call me back. That was 8/6, 8/8, 8/13, and 8/16. Still waiting for a supervisor .

Very slow application process/review. Information handed in takes forever to even reflect on their website. Called once, the person I spoke with provided no help at all regarding my questions and frankly seemed peeved I even called. Ridiculous.

After waiting on the phone for 30 mins, I still didn't get in touch with anyone. All I'm trying to do is get my license that's it and get help on how to do it online. Nobody knows how to pick up the phone, and talk and help someone. Since I only live down the street from this so called "business" I'll go up there and actually speak with someone. How are we suppose to better our lives if people don't do their job to help? Spending $300+ on a program to learn and can't even go further because someone can't pick up the damn phone. I bet you they won't see ONE DOLLAR of mine unless I go IN PERSON AND HAND IT TO SOMEONE. People have children and bills and trying to better themselves and can't even do it. Smdh. This is ridiculous, unprofessional, and straight up to the MAX F*CKERY!!!

They don't have to have good customer service so they make sure not to. Been waiting for my ATT to take my NCLEX-RN for over 45 days now and may not be able to start work on time due to this.

I had to call a few times and I had to wait for someone to answer but they were able to help me in a matter of minutes. The representative who answered the phone was very pleasant and helpful they actually made my day.

This is the worst system ever. This is my second t...

This is the worst system ever. This is my second time calling in. The first day, I was able to talk to a person after about 30 min wait. I've been on hold for about 20 min today with the message "your call is very important to us." The telephone started ringing finally, but no body answered. I waited for 10 min with the hope someone would pic it up. You can't leave a voice message. It just keeps ringing. There should be someone who really can address this issue. Nurses are one of the busiest professional groups and it is unacceptable to have such poor communication system in the great state of VA.

I have called several times and I understand wait ...

I have called several times and I understand wait times on the phone can be long, but that s not the problem. The problem is that no matter how nice I am or how politely I ask for information, I m treated rudely, the staff beats around the bush, my concerns are not answered, and excuses are made for why my documentation has not been reviewed. I have friends who applied to their board of nursing and received their review within a week. There are not enough excuses for the laziness and the inconsistency shown by the VBON in my experience. I hate writing negative reviews, but there has not been one positive or consistent conversation and experience that I have had with them. People don t always get what they want and when they want it, but being helpful to people and calmly and professionally explaining this is not hard to do!
I drove to the VBON from dc which was a 3 hour drive and I nicely explained this to the receptionist. After taking my name down I waited for about 30 minutes to be called in to the receptionist and told I have a phone call.. the woman on the phone rudely told me I needed to wait and they get a lot of applications which is why the window says 45 business days. I was not at the 45 business day mark so I just needed to wait. That was it, no additional information, no help, no addressing my concerns at all. I m so disappointed in the service.

I sent EVERYTHING they would need day after I took my state boards .... it has been 1 day shy of 3 weeks the only thing I am waiting on them to do is review my application and approve it. ALL INFO WAS RECIEVED! don't they realize we went to school to better our lives working. I have been out of work since I started school and now I am waiting on someone there to do their job!

FIrst the wait is ridiculous. Then the customer service is terrible. Rae/Ray (female) is extremely dismissive. If she doesn't have the answer she says just a moment and transfers you to an unending hold or a tech support voicemail box. There should be a more professional and knowledgeable person answering the phones.

Rude people on the phone. They also have me false information and I filled out an application only to be denied four months later. I called asking why it was taking so long and they finally processed my paperwork only to deny me and tell me it was the wrong application. The information the original rude lady gave me was FALSE! Also they are extremely RUDE!

Unprofessional. Long wait times. If you re lucky enough to get someone to pick up, 9 times out of 10 they ll have an attitude. Also, be prepared to listen to Your call is very important to us. Please wait for the next available agent. constantly for at least an hour while your holding.

May the odds be ever in your favor *holding up mockingjay hand gesture with corresponding whistling*

My experience with communicating with this office...

My experience with communicating with this office has been a nightmare. I have been trying to speak to a human to have my address changed for 2 days now, always a busy signal on the transfers. I am unable to do a change of address online because I have misplaced my PIN number , PIN numbers will be mailed to my address on file!!! "If your address is wrong, then contact the department" I am going around in circles. Called again today and now there is voice message and no options to communicate with anyone, then the line hangs up. Terrible experience!

Needs option for a negative rating. Their wait times are absolutely uncalled for and if you re able to get someone on the phone, they are ZERO help. Nurses deserve better service than this!!! I called Alabama BON (my home state) and literally got someone on the phone within TWO MINUTES.

We have been on hold for 42 minutes right now listening to boring music, and a pathetic apology for the hold time every 20 seconds. I guess every nurse in the state of VA needed to call today. It's a good thing that we don't have a life...

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE I just want to transfer my license that's all so I can work but all three times I have called it has been nothing but rude women and unpleasant and unprofessional phone ethics. They will talk down on you and call you a list because there phone system and online system is outdated and horrible. So ready for this process to be over so I can stop dealing with them all together.

On July 14th my payment was processed to take NCLEX-RN and all transcripts for a class of 16 had been received. Fast forward, everyone from that class has received their letter to Test/Practice and have passed their boards EXCEPT ME! I have yet to receive a letter to practice or test and we are way past 30 business days. The status of my application has everything checked off EXCEPT 'examination letter.' This is beyond acceptable. I've sent emails and I've called multiple times but no real answers/guidance have been offered. I've lost job opportunities because I can't even get the boards to send me a letter to practice. I've been an LPN for 4 years and I have NEVER known of anyone to endure such delays and poor customer service as I have with the BON. Nurses in the State of Virginia deserve better quality of service.

I was actually throughly impressed. Our class was told very early on that it would likely be February before we could even think about testing. However, we graduated December 16th, our attestation were sent to the board on December 20th, and I had my eligibility letter from the board on December 30th and my ATT from Pearson Vue the next day. I test on January 4th. Very quick process. The only "complaint" I had was the extensive wait time when calling but that was to be expected.

I applied for licensure oct 18th. I mentioned an issue that may show on my background, was told not to do anything unless it was confirmed on my background check and that somebody would mail me what I need to do if anything popped up. Two months went by so I called again they said they needed documentation because it comfirmed what i told them, but they never reached out to tell me i needed this documentation like they said they would. In email, they said if my checklist portion of the background check said completed, then everything was OK, but it wasn t and i had to call them to find out. Here it is January 9th and STILL no ATT (3 months). Beth Yates is the only person I have been able to get good help from. This is just ridiculous.

Wait time way too long and processing time for applications is to long. The system sets individuals up for making mistakes while practicing as a nurse. Not being able to utilize nursing skills for a month or so is not good.

Apply well in advance of when you plan to work in the state. I applied for a nursing license by endorsement. I ve received 3 other nursing licenses by endorsement from other states within 2 weeks of applying. The VA BON took almost 6! I contacted the BON several times by e-mail asking for updates regarding the status of my application and received auto replies to allow them the 30 business days to review the application. They did give me an authorization to practice letter which is good for 30 days, in less than 24 hours of requesting. I continued to reach out because I needed a permanent license quickly for a pending job opportunity. I m pretty sure if I had waited for them to get around to it, I would have missed my start date. I was fortunate to get my license in time, after continuing to contact the board.

I do not feel as though the Va Board of Nursing truly understands or cares about the struggle of waiting for your ATT letter. When I applied they kept telling me that on the application it states they have 45 business days, no weekends or holidays, to get you your letter. However, it took them 46 business days. Every time I would call they would continue to tell me to be patient. Why are they not seeing that maybe they need more staffing to handle the volume of applicants. Not only is nursing school stressful on its own and studying for your NCLEX, but the added stress of your letter just sitting on someone's desk until they decide to get to it, is just torture.

With so many negative reviews, I wanted to provide positive feedback on my experience with the board of nursing in Virginia. Most of the negative posts seem to reflect wait times on the telephone. Their system is geared towards use of the website and online services. I had excellent and timely response in dealing with my specific needs using email.

The VBON employees are extremely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! I called and spoke to a female employee twice and she didn t even give me a chance to fully speak before she started shouting at me. The second time she hung up the phone while I was in the middle of a conversation with her. It s an absolute DISGRACE to say the least! One star is a compliment if you ask me; none would be more appropriate.

The lady that I talked to this morning was very rude. I had inquired if they had received my official certification letter from the AANP for my nurse practitioner license, and the lady got nasty with me for no reason.

I moved out of VA, and in order to obtain my license in this state one of the requirements is an original verification of licensure from the VA board of nursing. So, I sent in my handwritten letter along with the $35 fee. 1 week went by and the GA board never received to licensure; I called VA state board, and after waiting 40 minutes a woman tells me that they sent the verification out 3 days prior. I figured that they just mailed it, instead of faxing it and let it go. It has now been 15 days! I just called, and after waiting another 40 minutes, the same woman that told me the verification was sent is now telling me that VA has yet to send it! They didn't have any issue taking my money, but they can't even find the time to fax out my licensure. This is beyond ridiculous! The hold time before you can speak to someone is crazy long, and once you do get in touch with someone be prepared to either be given false information (just to get you off of the phone), or get transferred to a line that will ring for a good 4 minutes before no one answers and you get the busy dial tone...and inevitably hung up on. The only time I recommend getting licensed for anything in the state of VA, is if you never ever ever ever plan on moving.

Be prepared to wait at least 30 business days if not more to get your NP license and license to prescribe. I called the BON 4 weeks after submission of my applications. I am due to start practicing as an NP in October. I still have to apply for my DEA number and NPI number and you must have your licenses before you can apply for these items. 200.00 is a lot to pay for this not to have an expedited process.

The person I spoke to today on the phone from VBON...

The person I spoke to today on the phone from VBON was probably the rudest person I've had the misfortune of speaking to. She doesn't even let you finish talking, gets angry, and raises her voice to speak over you. How can she understand what I'm asking if she doesn't let me speak. Someone needs to look into her employment there as I notice similar negative reviews about her.

The staff members who answer the phones are a very poor reflection of a professional organization such as the BON. My experience with calling and speaking to someone about my nursing license was less than ideal. However, I am writing this review not to complain about the second rate phone services, but to thank Ms. Monica DeJesus for facilitating the endorsement of my NC to VA nursing license in an incredibly timely manner( within 10 business days of application submission). Ms. DeJesus was quick and efficient in providing me with my VA nursing license when I desperately needed to obtain it.

This is horrible I have a child to take care of and for the last three days its been like this tryna get someone to answer the phone. I have a job waiting on me n becuz VA doesn't want to answer the phone I cant pay bills cuz I cant work n theres nothingnelse to do short of driving 3 hours to look someone n the face.

I completed my application for my VA massage therapy license on May 24, 2019 and I still don't have my license. I am currently licensed in NC but I wanted to take a good paying job in VA for the summer but I guess that's not going to happen this year. If I had known it would take this long to get my license I would've never started the process. I don't even need the license if it comes after the season is over!! What a waste of my money and efforts to get all my documents in. They have received everything from me but still won't check it off on my checklist. Totally frustrating!!! If I could get my money back I would. I was thinking about going to the facility to see if I can speak with someone directly since I can't seem to reach anyone on the phone, but I don't know if that would do any good. They need to be reported and shut down if they can't do no better than this!!

So person is doing ATT testing verification for the WHOLE state of VA 45 business days for paperwork? What are you doing with the money we pay you to take test... Hire people!!! Ridiculous

I am an NP with a job in a rural, underserved area...

I am an NP with a job in a rural, underserved area where there is a significant provider shortage. I come to work every day and watch the patients complain and the providers drown. I cannot help because I am still waiting for my VA license. This is causing thousands of dollars of lost productivity for me and my employer. More importantly, this is causing delays in the provision of care to patients who desperately need it. I would happily pay a higher price for my license if it meant a faster processing time. I have several suggestions for improvement:
1. Hire more staff to answer the phone. Multiple times over the past several weeks I have spent 4+ hours on hold and have not gotten through.
2. Hire more staff to process applications, particularly during peak seasons.
3. Implement an expedited process for the licensing of providers who have jobs in underserved areas with provider shortages.

My wife has been waiting more then a year for "a letter" oking her to work.. absolutely HORRIBLE RUDE COLD HEARTED customer service. Most unprofessional establishment I've ever delt with.. after waiting an hour or more on hold several times No one can give any answers! This place needs to clean house and restaff. We have children to feed we need answers! PLEASE!

I can't go lower than one star. Horrible service, they are not accommodating and people who answer the phone are rude. They have a tone that make you feel as if you are stupid for asking questions and clarifying procedures. Horrible service! I'm very unhappy with them.

Godawful. It has been over a month since I applied for my license, and I still don't have it. I called and emailed asking about its status and have yet to get a response. If I could give them no stars I would.

The phone system is the worst of its kind! No one ever answers. I've had to drive to the location in order to speak to someone about my license on at least 3 occasions. Luckily I work in the city. Otherwise, I'd get no response from the VBON!

Terrible service, terrible people, I wish there was a way to report them to some supervisor and get better service. Its clear they don't care, because there is no one checking them. I would give them negative stars if I could.

Terrible experience obtaining a new APRN license from out of state. People are rude, not very helpful. I was out of work For almost one month due to the lengthy licensing process. 9 out of 10 times they don t answer the phone, call wait time > 20 minutes.. working professionals don t have time for that therefore staying abreast of the licensing process was very difficult.
