Genesys doesn't even deserve this 1 star. I was in a serious car accident where I broke my back and had nerve damage in my foot. Upon arriving at the emergency room, only 1 nurse actually listened to my needs and actually thoroughly checked everything. The trauma doctor, Dr. Shapiro, is a walking joke. He was called in, took a peek at my back, and left. I had x rays done, but I wasn't allowed to see them. Instead, Genesys staff thought it was professional to draw me a picture on the white board to show what was wrong with my back (they said it was a 10% compression fracture). I was kept overnight in the emergency observation, but when I was transferred from the emergency room to the post observation room, I was thrown onto my new bed (my entire body was paralyzed from the accident). I was then told I was able to get up and do everything on my own. I would push the nurse button to get help (using the bathroom, getting something to drink, moving my tray closer to me instead of leaving it beyond arms reach) and I was met with an attitude each time. Throughout the night, the nurses started ignoring my calls but my room was right outside of the nurses station, so I heard them take bets on who would answer the call next. The next morning, when I was suppose to be released, I was suppose to leave with a walker and a back brace. Apparently no one in all of the departments I dealt with (neuro, ortho, and trauma) talked to each other, so each had completely different opinions. I went to the follow up appointment with Dr. Shapiro. When I met with him, he told me that I had to live with the pain. If he were to give me anything for the pain, I would end up overdosing on heroin. I was given lidocaine patches before, and was hoping to get more, but instead, he told me to get over it. He also checked me out, then asked if I worked out. I said yes, and he told me "Your back should heal in 6 weeks. You should do yoga to fix it". My kidney disease, which I was diagnosed by a KIDNEY DOCTOR, was brought up, and Dr. Shapiro told me I didn't have one. A TRAUMA doctor told me it was "highly unlikely I had this genetic disease". I was there for my back, not unwanted opinions about unrelated problems. A couple months later, I finally am able go get an MRI done on my back (which genesys failed to do), only to find out my compression fracture was NOT a 10% fracture. It was actually a 20-40% compression fracture. Overall, I do NOT recommend going to genesys. Go anywhere but there, and even if you're a level 1 trauma like I was and had no option but to go to Genesys, find a way to go there. Please, for the sake of your health, do not go to genesys.
** huge props to the ER nurse with the red lanyard, he was the ONLY one who cared if I lived another day.
