I originally made an appointment here when I discovered I was pregnant with a few at-home tests. I called and informed them that I would like my first appointment there as I ve been seeing them since puberty. I also explained I would be transferring to Beaumont not long after since I live in the area. Now, maybe this was my mistake for not realizing that this would be unusual procedure.. however, I m not experienced in pregnancy protocols or hospital procedures. Anyway, they told me this would be okay and set me up with my first two appointments. Appointments I spent every minute of every day for five weeks eagerly waiting for to see how this baby was doing!!

Fast forward to five weeks later and an hour drive to the hospital and I m anxiously walking in to finally hear how things are progressing inside me. & this is when it all gets ugly. I am told by the receptionist that there is no point in seeing me today since I plan on transferring, and I explain that I ve already been told when I made the appointment that it would be okay! So, I was asked to give a urine sample. As I m walking out of the bathroom I see the recpetionist and another woman(nurse I assume) talking in another room and the nurse grabs my attention as soon as she sees me. Receptionist looks guilty and takes her seat back at her desk. Nurse tries to explain that it would be a waste of time and of no point to see me since I am transferring. I explain that there IS a point in checking the progress of this baby!! That s all I care about! I m so angry at this point I could cry but I was NOT taking no for an answer. So, they agree to take blood work. Well, I certainly regret that because the nurse sat me in the same room we had our discussion ... a room similar to a small conference room. She wrapped the band around my arm and went for it. No squeezing fist requests or stress balls to squeeze either. Then when she finishes my arm is bleeding quite a bit and she says oh, you re a bleeder! ................ I am white, my underarms are pale and my veins are incredibly easy to see. I have been told by nurses in the past how easy it is to take my blood. Well, I m walking out to my car and my arm is almost numb! I take the bandaid off to look and it s swollen and purple! She blew out my vein! So now I ve had a half- dollar sized purple bruise on my arm all week with a knot or bump inside. Awesome.

Also, I came to this appointment without insurance having gone into effect yet so it was prior knowledge i d be paying out of pocket. The only (so I thought) redeeming quality was the advice to call Quest and let me know before they bill me that I d be paying cash. Well, I call Quest and find out the exact opposite is true. You call to adjust the bill once you ve been billed. Simple mistake... not a big deal... but I ve been on the wrong side of these 50/50 shots the whole time.

Then I finally get the results of my blood work and I m concerned about my HCG levels. But did they offer any real explanation to ease my mind or tell me anything other than the range varies ?! Nope.

Super long story short..... I will never return to this hospital. I have heard poor things about them and always felt those were just isolated incidents. Now, I m the incident.

Unprofessional, miscommunicated, unapologetic, misinformed.
