Very BAD experience: inbuilt humidifier is not working and I Called Vernon, however had very bad experience with technician like below: 1. He pulled the HVAC door roughly (I was there and watching him) and that little auto bolts broken 2. He was trying to drill the iron door for temporary to fix that, he could not 3. He used duck tape to close the door finally. (NOT SUR EHOW TO EXPRESS MY FEELINGS) 4. He always talks about cost of the services, constantly touch base with dispatcher and they through whatever number they want.
I paid visiting service fee and ask him to leave. I DON'T recommend these guys for anyone going forward.

Mike was great! He diagnosed my Compressor (AC) problem within minutes and had it fixed in less than an hour. But he tested the new part's performance thoroughly before he closed it back up. When I asked him about replacement units he took time to look at the entire system and suggest several solutions that would work with a price range that was competitive. Vernon performed an annual furnace "tune up" with technician Mike Prater doing the work. The job was quick and efficient. I have used Vernon for 5 years now and my experiences have been satisfactory.
Today Mike Prater came to analyze and repair our air conditioner which was not working, Mike was prompt,courteous and professional.He asked me a few questions about our system and then began to test the electrical connections which seemed to be the problem. He determined that the issue was the breaker connection which he reinserted and solved the problem. He next addressed the correction of the prior bill for the repair of an electric board which was not needed and confirmed this correction with the billing office. I was completely satisfied with Mike and his work. You have a valued employee and should make efforts to retain him and others like him.
The technician was very considerate of my home always taking the time too put on and take off his shoe covers to protect my floors. He was very knowledgeable being able to provide evidence of necessity for all parts needing to be repaired. He was able to propose multiple courses of action to maintain our system at peak performance. An added bonus was his affability to us in that he shared our downright love of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Marion E. came on a Saturday, performed a diagnostic check of a non-functioning AC system, found a blown fuse and a flaw in the compressor and fixed it for now. He did say that the AC unit is old (over 18 years in service, probably 23 years) and is near the end of its life, so it should be replaced quite soon. He was prompt, explained well, was very friendly and professional.

I have been a customer of Vernon H/AC for over 10 years and have been pleased with their service. Phil Houser, Senior Service Technician performed a scheduled seasonal check-up and noticed the April Air Humidifier, installed by Vernon many years ago was showing age and wear. Phil, very professionally, explained the problem with the old humidifier and then explained the options for replacement. Phil did a great job in inspection of our current system and explaining the options for replacing the old humidifier. We chose the Aprilaire Steam humidifier, model 800. Today Feb 28, 2014 Phil and His assistant install the new system. A very professional job. Great to work with professionals like Phil Houser.
We called Vernon when a snow storm was approaching the area and our furnace was not working. They sent someone (Mike) promptly that diagnosed and fixed the problem. So I was very happy with the service.
I could not see how to add a review, only that I could edit my old one. So, here goes: Yet another fabulous Vernon experience. My main unit, a York, contractor grade unit of 12 years finally failed and a Vernon tech came out quickly. But, he had to give me the bad news, not only had the control board failed, but there was a buildup of mold. I had been planning to replace the unit anyway so Mile came out the same day to write up the order. The installers were available on Wednesday and they arrived as promised and did a clean install. My wife and I are very happy with the friendliness, professionalism, and skill of everyone involved. In addition to Mike, especially want to mention Zach and Brian R., the installers.
Our furnace broke down a day before the polar vortex and we have 2 small children. So we immediately called on Vernon Heating, John came out to look at the unit and was very direct with us - he could repair it but our unit was 20 years old and we would probably continue to sink money into it, so he recommended replacing it and saving ourselves money in the long run. At 9am on the dot the next morning Kenny and Mike showed up. They said the install would take 3-4 hours and they were in at 9am and out around 1pm. Mike and Kenny were courteous, efficient and professional. They talked to me about the furnace and our new Air Scrubber, but also walked me through the new digital thermostat and even advised me on our current humidifier. They joked around with my daughter, but also let me work while they went about their business, mostly keeping to the task at hand so as not to be intrusive. All of our experiences with Vernon Heating have been great so far and we would highly recommend them. Thanks for keeping our family warm, guys!

I called this company for a second opinion and it turns out the actual issue was completely unrelated to what the other company had incorrectly diagnosed. Craig is VERY knowldegable and was able to accurately diagnose the problem and explain it with the credibility of someone who understands these systems inside and out.
I have been a loyal Vernon customer for about 15 or 20 years. After my yearly heat checkup, John B, a Lead Technician,. came over to check my CO levels. He checked the duct and said they were very high and that I needed a new furnace to replace my furnace of 9 or so years. He gave me an estimate of $7825. That estimate is about $2400 more than other estimates. I had another company come over and told me my CO levels inside the ducts were 0. They tested my ducts and the furnace exhast. When I asked why he checked the exhaust he siad that is the way its done, you check inside and outside. Vernon has now lost my trust. I feel as though a loyal customer has been taken advantage of. When I called to speak to the General Manager, they would not connect me. Basically saying that we have no customer service, too bad!

We began using Vernon to service our heating and cooling units nearly a decade ago. They faithfully call to schedule our seasonal "check-ups" and are always very accommodating. Last week's check-up yielded news that the secondary heat exchanger on our 14-year-old furnace had a leak. Mike Prater, the senior service technician, did a fantastic job of explaining the mechanical issues and patiently answered many questions my husband had about decisions associated with choosing a replacement unit. The conversation led to other heating/cooling questions about our overall system and Mike offered many helpful observations. Vernon will be replacing our aged unit this week --- right in time for the next cold spell!
Vernon replaced my heat pump system. John came out the same day that I called to inspect and give an estimate. He answered all my questions and together we decided on a great new system. Install was scheduled for two days later. Zach and Brian came on time, dressed professionally and installed the new system, cleaned up afterwards, and walked me through everything that they did. When they realized that they needed a new part to fit my system, another employee came within 15 minutes to deliver it. Overall a great experience end to end.

Outstanding. I have had a service contract with them for more than 10 years and routine and emergency service is always performed in a timely and professional manner. During a recent furnace failure that occurred in a snow storm, I contacted them at 10 pm and they had a field technician out the next morning on the weekend who diagnosed the problem and offered both repair and replacement options. New unit was installed within 24 hours.
The service was excellent. The technician did a great job diagnosing and solving the problem we had with a failed furnace blower-motor. We are also pleased with the installation of a humidifier. We received same-day service and the technician arrived on time. The price for the service (labor and parts) was better than that of other HVAC contractors we approached and this was the only company that could work us into its schedule for same-day service.

My husband and I were not necessarily in the market for a whole new heating and AC system, however, when we purchased our home earlier in the year we knew that we would eventually (sometime soon) need a new system. We attended the Dulles home show and met Mike at his booth and scheduled an evaluation with him two days later! He arrived and was very clean and professional, informed us that our system was in pretty bad shape and rather than just telling us what the issue was, he showed us what he was talking about. I was able to get an appointment the same day within hours went my heat pump went out. I ended up needing a new heat pump which I knew was inevitable, but it was not after every attempt to save my existing one. My new heat pump was installed the next day. The technicians were friendly and informative.

I called in the morning after we received a lot of ice from the previous night with my HVAC unit frozen solid. Mike Prater (service tech) was at my house within 45 mins of me calling in for a visit. After an hour of thawing out my system with hot water and breaking up of the ice jam by hand, Mike was able to diagnose the issue and also gave me a few helpful tips to keep my system running more efficiently.

I have been using Vernon heating and ac for 2 1/2 years and the other owners had been using them for over 10 years. I am very pleased with their customer service and the fact that I can request the same tech each time. I am currently on my 4th tech because of job changes and one personal request and have found Darren to be excellent! He is personable and very knowledgable about my system. He has come twice now to fix mistakes that another tech and I have done. I plan on staying with Vernon for the time being because of the customer service. The only issue I have is that the office staff need to listen better to the customer and what the issue is that the tech is being sent out for. Darren came out believing he had done something wrong when that was not the case. Thank you
I contacted Vernon Heating and Air Conditioning to troubleshoot my non-functioning A/C. A troubleshooting technician was at my door the following morning.out I had the pleasure of working with both Darren Blackman and Mike Prater, both of whom arrived promptly on time. They were both professional, respectful, attentive to prevent any tracking of dirt inside, and sorted out the problem quickly. Sadly, my 47 year old a/c unit has seen it's last day and will be replaced by a brand new shiny Carrier!

John B arrived ahead of schedule and went right to work. He methodically troubleshot my A/C system and quickly zeroed in on a leaking coil. He explained my options, charged the system to get me thru the next few days, and provided a quote for replacement. He answered all my questions clearly and without hesitation
So I was turned onto Vernon by my last landlord who always used them for any hvac issues that we had over the last two years. They were on my short list for who to call when I bought my own house and needed my furnace serviced before winter. I called on Thursday and Mike was here on Saturday for the inspection. He informed me that we needed a new unit since the heat exchanger was literally falling apart. He suggested a unit in our price range and good for our small house and walked us through financing.
On Monday Mike C. and Andy M. were out before 9am for the installation. A couple hours later and voila I had a warm house. They cleaned up and were on to the next job. Everybody we spoke with or met from Vernon were very professional and helpful. I will for sure be using them from now on, especially since they're warranties are great and the price is worth the work.
Recently, one night our hot water heater started leaking , we called Vernon who we have used to maintain our HVAC system, they called back right away and provided details to shut down the HWH for the night and schedule a service the next day. The next day service came on time and as we agreed that all of our systems were past their prime and needed upgrade. Vernon was able to schedule a next day activity to replace our system. The team lead by Zach and Steve H. appeared on time, and professionally started right to work. Even with constant rain, they and their team (Mike C. and Andy) replaced our HVAC system, cleared away all debris, had new system running and walk through the new equipment with me by early afternoon. Very professional and knowledgeable service was provided by the Vernon team and I recommend them for residential HVAC issues.
I called Vernon Heating because my furnace had gone out during this years deep freeze. They came same day during the designated time slot. Unfortunately, my old furnace could not be repaired. Mike Prater, the service technician was very professional and courteous and both showed and explained to me the problems with my furnace. When I asked questions, his answers were direct and honest. He also advised me on what I needed to replace my furnace, and explained in detail what would be involved with the replacement. He made what was an unpleasant event (losing heat) into a positive experience -- getting a new more efficient furnace.
Ronnie Smith was my technician today, he was very polite and fixed the thermostat - it was so sensitive that I couldn't use it. After checking the furnace he went over the points and suggested that I get carbon monoxide detectors for all 3 floors. This was something that no one else had ever suggested to me. We had George R. from Vernon assess and repair our broken AC system. George R. is one of the best service men that I've dealt with from any firm. I asked Vernon to assign him as our primary service person. I wish more firms had service men like George R. on their staff!
I cancelled my annual service membership with Vernon after their technician refused to go on the roof to replace the HVAC exhaust vent cap (damaged by squirrels). After declining service, he asked me to pay him a service fee for coming to my house, and then called his boss when I refused to pay. I purchased a membership plan in July 2020, and there has been no correspondence from Vernon until I needed help replacing the exhaust vent cap. The technician said HVAC exhaust vent caps are not part of the HVAC system (false) and to call a roofing company. I was very clear about the purpose of the appointment, and I even inquired about the cost of vent caps over the phone. I also inquired about the cost of duct cleaning, and whether or not they did duct cleaning. Vernon never said they did not replace HVAC exhaust vent caps; otherwise I would have cancelled the appointment and called someone else. The technician indicated his only purpose for the appointment was to provide an estimate for duct cleaning ($800 for one HVAC system and no appointments available until late January). I found this statement conflicting because the first statement from the technician when he walked into my house was, "What problem are you having today?". I had a big problem. Squirrels broke into the HVAC exhaust vent on the roof and caused the vent pipe to clog up which caused the water heater to backdraft and burn up, releasing toxic gases and soot into my home. Another company, a plumber, replaced the water heater and inspected/cleaned out the flue pipe. There were additional plumbing issues detected, and I had to call the plumber to negotiate the price of fixing these additional issues; however I accidentally called Vernon instead of the plumber. When I refused to pay Vernon the service fee after they refused to replace the exhaust vent cap, the technician's boss asked me if I was the same person that called them, confusing them with a plumber. I said yes, and this person responded, "Are you sure you're not confused now?" I'm sure I'm not confused. I'm sure I called the wrong HVAC company to service my home.
Mike showed up on time, was very courteous and attentive to my concerns. After review, he recommended to cancel with Dominion Power the saving plan I had, as that was the only problem he encountered. Computer data found no other faults. I hope that this recommendation solves our future problems. Thanks again Mike and Vernon Heating & Air Conditioning.
This was Mr. George Riley's second visit at our home to check heating and cooling system. It is a pleasure to deal with him. He is very polite and exceedingly informative. He discussed all aspects of our heating and cooling system in detail and offered suggestions for improvements. He checked the entire house vents for cold or hot air supply as well as the heat pump and the furnace. He is never rushed and takes time to address all our concerns. A few years ago, we had to sell my father's house. We needed to have his AC unit serviced before putting the house on the market. Several of his neighbors recommended Vernon as a reliable and well established option. Vernon came out to his home and had the unit running in top shape. The neighborhood recommendation carried a lot of weight with me, so 2 years ago when I was selling my own home, I called Vernon again. My AC unit was not working properly. I thought I would need to replace the entire unit, but the technician saw that one of the parts had corroded. He replaced the part that same day and saved me a lot of money! Most recently, with below freezing temperatures in the area, both my thermostats went blank. The temperature in the house was dropping quickly, so of course I called Vernon right away.They sent a technician to my home within an hour and he quickly diagnosed that the motor in the furnace was defective. The technician was helpful in explaining the problem to someone who doesn't speak HVAC. He was very efficient and was able to replace the motor quickly. Since my house is only 2 years old, he told me the part would be covered under warranty. I really appreciated that type of excellent service. I would highly recommend Vernon without reservation.

In addition to their professionalism, the two gentlemen I worked with filled me in with all sorts of information on how to maximize cooling and heat throughout my home as well as maintain/extend the life of both my heating and air conditioner unit. Also, whereas I thought a utility sink pipe in front of the heater would be problematic, the Vernon guys went above and beyond, working with the city to make sure it was to code and relocating the pipe working with not so much space. The best part was they were able to do this all in two days... fast and efficient. I highly recommend this company to everyone.

Today we had our semi-annual heating and cooling inspection and the technician (Gary) was fantastic. He was prompt, courteous, informative and provided forward-looking advice for our 7-year old system. We appreciate the professional technical and customer focused approach.
We decided to look for a new HVAC company in 2020 when our system was not operating to full capacity. We called numerous companies but Vernon was the only one willing to look at our system and work with us. Ryan Jackson was our main point of contact and was outstanding to work with. After assessing our system we decided to replace the units and the control system. As we started the process we had to battle the onset of the coronavirus and all of the challenges that it brought with it. Ryan and his team showed up ever time that I called and needed their support. They showed up with a professional attitude and worked accordingly. After installing the equipment Ryan and his team provided training and continued to support us when needed.
Had a problem where my air conditioning kept shutting off. I called the office and scheduled an appointment and Alex arrived right on time. I explained to him the problem and the steps I had taken. He ended up having to troubleshoot the entire system because my evaporator/furnace kept losing power. He was very patient and kept at it until it was fixed which I appreciated as the problem was not immediately apparent. He also pointed out some early warning signs in my system and offered some suggestions as to how to address them, but without high pressure sales tactics. I decided to go with service plans for both of my systems due to his professionalism and knowledge. Thanks Alex!
Mike at Vernon Heating & AC came out to do the semi-annual maintenance today. Very knowledgeable and he did great work. Mike took me outside and showed what needed repairs and where we were still in good shape. He informed me of product details and options for the future too. Vernon has excellent customer service. Kenny did an excellent job installing our new water heater. Along with Brandon, they worked carefully and quickly to get the job done. They left the space clean and reviewed the instructions for lighting the pilot in case of an outage.
The servicemen arrived on time, were friendly, and very professional. They covered the carpet to make sure they didn't leave any tracks. They installed the unit in our attic on one of the hottest days of the year so far. They explained how to use the unit in detail and picked up all of their installation trash.
The service tech, John B, did a great job of walking me through exactly what was wrong with my heater, and what the options/implications were for next steps. I ended up deciding to replace the unit, and the installers, Mike C and Brian S, were out the next morning. They were quick, courteous, and thorough. Everything works great.
