I was an 8 year employee here. After about 5 years they discarded almost all their experienced employees so they could off shore most of their service so they could save money. So it's not surprising to see most of these reviews. It's a shame because for five of those years they were a great company to work for but unfortunately times change.

Horrible. Don't even want to give them 1 star. My experience is similar to the gentleman below me. I NEEDED surgery, which I got, yet they denied coverage (through EVERY appeal) all the while insulting my situation, acting like ALL WAS FINE. I was NOT fine. That is why the HOSPITAL did the surgery. Really?????? Never been so disgusted with an insurance company IN MY LIFE!!!!! And I pay out-of-pocket premiums. I waited months for them to "do the right thing" and cover the surgery, so that I wouldn't feel the NEED to let others know this. But, they made their final decision. RIDICULOUS!!!

The rating system forces you to give them a star or you can't post. That being said NO STARS. Absolute nightmare - denying prescription coverage for a drug with the identical protocol of a drug that they previously covered.

Worst company to try to speak to a representative. They don't know what customer service is at all. Everything is online or by mail and there is not good explanation of what they offer. I worst mistake ever getting a membership with them. :'(

This company took my 1st mount ha $1401.78 premium and the immediately made my account inactive. This was 5 weeks ago. I have sent emails, been on the phone with supervisors many times a total of 14 hours who tell me the issue is being handled just wait. Meanwhile
My family is paying out of pocket for medical care and prescriptions! I don't
Know who else to call but I think it is time to find a good lawyer!

This company is truly awful. Completely unresponsive. They made a terrible mistake on my billing (charged me for an extra month). After HOURS on the phone, they still have not fixed it. I recommend you avoid this company at all costs.

Where to begin...

Unfortunately for me I just signed up for this insurance. I have been through 9 levels of auto voice and "transfer to the right representative" hell for over 3 hours and 5 phone calls.

This to me is crazy since I AM TRYING TO PAY MY PREMIUM and I DONT WANT TO PAY LATE.

Sure they have online member services which RETURNS AN ERROR each time I try and register.

Then there is the phone billing which makes painstakingly read every number that is associated with your life only to have the robot start spewing ERROR CODES UNTIL YOUR PHONE STARTS BEEPING.

I don't understand how you can charge money and not even have a system to collect it. Unbelievable. People may say "just don't pay it then, its their fault."

Sure! problem is I'm willing to bet they will increase my balance with late fees and charge all sorts of penalties. Stay away before its too late.

This has to be the worst experience I had as a patient. Blue Cross Blue Shield a year later reversed payment on a claim that they paid earlier on and did not even bother to notify us. When I called them they did not even want to explain why they did this except they just said it s their policy and right. I will never take this insurance again. Worst company ever..Be Aware before you do business with them

Customer Service Representative no use. They took one month to provide 1095B tax form. I spent more than 5 - 6 hours in CHAT session with them. Worst website experience, I didn't add any Dental, but by default they added and when i call the representative they are saying its state mandatory to add dental, they didn't even notify me about this and they increased my premium .

The explanation of benefits and service I've received from Horizon BSBC has been completely uninformative. My wife was determined ineligible for a maternity program under our plan. Beyond being pregnant, I'm not sure what is required to be eligible. They provided no explanation. After two calls and much wasted time, they realized it was a mistake and corrected it. Other calls about improperly recorded items continue to be in vain. They state a standard line "it was determined the claim was processed correctly" and cannot answer any specific question regarding inaccurate statements they made such as this is non-routine or there was no referral for this service.

Aside from inaccurate claim processing and providing some comedic relief to my coworkers, I haven't seen anything this provider can do well.

Just called them for something (adding PCP).. got held on the phone for an hour and then got transferred and have been waiting since. Not the matter of how good their service is when you cannot even reach that point. They should at least implement a callback service for their phone service so that their paying customers do not have to hold on their phones for literally over an hour and more. I will be changing my insurance in a couple of days, but this is for people who are considering them.

I work for a medical supply provider so i'm on the phone with insurance companies for more than half of my day everyday but i have NEVER spoken to such incompetent, slow and rude people in my life. Called to find out their fax number and the documents necessary to file for a preapproval, was transferred 6 times and had to tell each person a bunch of info that had nothing to do with my question. Spent an hour on the phone and still didn't receive the info i called for. The highlight of my phone call was saying "Hello" into the phone 5 times in an attempt to get a response from the representative but he was too busy talking to a few of his coworkers about going out this weekend. I don't understand how so many morons managed to find a job in the same company.

Their automated system is the worst ever in creation. My mother is a senior citizen and simply just trying to update her insurance is a PAIN. There's nobody you can speak to update the change. The automated system doesn't allow you to even update the address. The system even hung up on me. This has to be the worst company ever.

Horrendous customer service and rip off. I was told my insurance was terminated for November and December. I paid for my prenatal appointments out of pocket after paying for insurance all year.
Now in January I m told I have an outstanding balance of $1200 and that my insurance was reinstated for November and December. I was never told about this despite me calling them multiple times in November and December. Ok. Worst insurance ever .

Stay away from this insurance company.

Their system is always down, and when it's down and you need the service, you will have to pay out of pocket first. BUT after you pay, it takes years to chase the money back.

1. You can't email, upload, or fax the claim, you have to fill a ton of forms and MAIL to them but they can HARDLY receive anything.

2. After they got the mail, it takes more than a month to finalize --> for the first month when you call, they will just tell u to wait.

3. After you wait for a month they can now finally tell you that there's nothing on file.

4. Now you have to go to the service provider, ask for all the paper work and mail again, be sure they got the mail and call 100 times for them to finally put it into the system.

5. They only reimburse part of the cost even though it says 100% covered because you paid out of pocket, they have an under table agreement with healthcare providers so if they claim they will get reimbursed partly. but since you paid by yourself and not through their discount channel, you pay a higher premium which HCBS will not pay you.

After dealing with all that, I'm done and finally switched.

Hope it helps, stay away for your own benefits.

Horrible customer service - reps unfamiliar with plans and benefits. I have had many plans from PPOs to POS and even NJFamily, no matter what I've called about, I've to come across a schlew of reps who were rude, lacking basic knowledge, unhelpful and often rushing to get off the telephone. I had claims not paid and was told there was nothing they could do. I appealed them all, wrote letters and got them ALL paid.

I brought a customer service issue to their attention in January of 2021 and was told it would be resolved in 10-14 business days. It is now April of 2021 and the issue is still unresolved. I have discovered there is no accountability with their customer service. I continue to receive the same kind of response and Horizon is not giving any roadmap to move forward for a resolution. In the meantime I have been dropped by my PCP. I will not be back in 2022.

I had a baby in December and saw a lactation consultant. The hospital required I pay ahead of time and get reimbursed by insurance. Well I still haven't gotten paid for that and my baby is 8 months old!! They kept screwing up the claim, sent a check to the hospital instead of me, and now sent a check to me that never arrived. Ridiculous!!

Billed me after my term contract was canceled which was their mistake I had to call at least 4-5 times over a course of a month to get refunded. They told me the money will be put back into your account in 24-48 hours after a week went by they told me it takes 30 days. So I have to wait over 30 days to get back my money they stole from my account and waste a lot of my time to keep calling them back. When asked for a manager no manager were on duty. Horrible company I'm glad I switched.

In this past hour, I have been placed on hold 4 times, am dealing employees of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ in the Philippines. These folks don't have the contact name/department I need, specifically the CEO Headquarters in New Jersey. It's extremely difficult to get a hold of many insurance offices in America. They hire out of the country, for cost containment, and customer satisfaction takes a far back seat. I finally found a number after many tries on google. I will call the CEO's office, wonder if they'll do the same and dodge me.

Absolutely the worst company ever dealt with. Morons that can't answer your questions without asking ten times. All I wanted to do is change the billing address of my mother so her bills would be directed to a new address so we can pay the quarterly bill on time.
They wanted to talk to my mom and I told them she is hospitalized and can't communicate. They couldn't accomplish this simple task.

Terrible customer service. I called 7 times after my parents' plan was cancelled in error. My parents asked to cancel their Medicare Gap and to keep their Dental plan. Someone cancelled both. I spoke to countless reps and countless managers, and no one was able to help. They would transfer me to a "survey" Everytime. What a joke!! I want to reinstate a plan and pay money to these people, and they still won't help me. I'm going to another company!

After the first caseworker for my mother took more than eight months to find a supplier for a durable medical supplies she needed, then Instead of that, moms caseworker only showed me a picture she copied from the web, an hour or two before she came to the house, then told me to call around to find a supplier Who would accept BlueCross(Because she couldn't find any). I called the alleged suppliers of a particular device, they had listed on their website but when I called these companies, they do not supply those items. All this wasted time was after a complaint The prior year when I told the corporate office during their annual meeting, there are no companies that supply the products we need. Then I asked, can it be waived, So I can buy it somewhere not approved since there was nowhere approved? (I received a no answer answer Which meant,no). They said finally it sounds like a personal case matter that we will address personally, Other than during this meeting and we will help you with you (they didn't). Waited four months for a special lift my mother needed, it was approved for four months, waiting for the supplier to fill out a form (I contacted the supplier-Who knew nothing about the form and didn't receive anything from horizon), Contacted the supervisor, said he would look into it, (that process repeated about twice weekly and he never got back to me), The person that always deals with the supplies, I got emails it's all approved, just waiting for the supplier, then her caseworker shows up and said it was denied. They could not find the original approvals. (This is the short version) long version, Very stressed, you will have to probably buy this expensive device ourselves as well, probably what they wanted in the first place,, specifically set up to save the company money. ZERO STARS is my Mark, but they won't take less than one. AT THE TIME OF THIS POST, all scores were one star except for one blank comment posting five stars, (five stars) post was a bogus post quite obviously. Can get worse than all one star grades

Blue cross is not a good insurance. I get health and dental through my work I got the maximum amount taken out of my paycheck and to get a metal crown I have to pay 50% on top. This is not right and you call the customer service(my health provider) and she's not helpful acts as if she's the paying out of pocket and doesn't seem to care. Worst person ever and don't even bother to get this type of insurance. I'm very upset as a customer that pays a lot already from my paychecks to have this dental care. Take care

I put a star not worth a star!! I canceled a plan over a year an a half ago. I just got a bill for just having the exchange market place account back in 2013 not for the service used. Not only was it canceled in 2014 but the one person I was able to talk to before getting transferred 5 times in 30mins; told me I have two accounts one with my job and the other that is suppose to be canceled. Now I'm currently on the phone and on hold once again to get this account removed. Their customer service is the worst, not to mention all the transfers and the automated systems constantly saying someone will be with you shortly and it's always a long wait. With all the transfers and holds it seems like no one knows what their doing and that is more evident with the bill from 2014 and it being linked to my job account. I'm still on hold and I'm beyond pissed off!!!!! They need a damn call back system. It's 2016, an update in their calling system is much needed. Take off the automated "Thank you for your patience" it's annoying when you have to wait over and hour just to speak to someone!!!

An insurance company, nobody wants this insurance, neither the same hospitals that are affiliated with them nor specialist doctors, it is a problem to find a specialist, but to charge, although costs are only good for them. Companies pay little but employees do not tell themselves the very high copays in pharmacies and the same problem, rather with this insurance, you cannot get sick because the stress of everything you have to pay is worse than the disease

Terrible! Unbelievable errors in their billing caused my checking account to be depleted and charged an overdraft because they deducted a premium payment twice. On top of this, I was on hold 45 minutes to get through to a supervisor who I was told could correct this and then she tells me she can't promise a correction and will get back to me by the end of the day. They were quick to double bill me and debit my checking account but the correction cannot be fixed in one day! All in all on the phone an entire hour and still no correction was done. Absolutely disgusted!

As a dental service provider,I should pass on that this insurance company is a joke. Good luck getting paid, when you submit a claim they state they didn't receive it, or didn't receive parts that were clearly filled out. They play the deny claim game for literally everything they can. Forget electronic submissions as well, they will claim they didn't receive it or parts of it despite a confirmation number from your clearinghouse. If you want insurance that is actually real, go with Delta Dental.

I simply want to know how to stop them from getting PAID TWICE ON EACH PREMIUM PAYMENT FOR MY 88 YR OLD MOTHER. From the other reviews about disgruntled employees it is easy to piece together that BCBSNJ is focused on profits NOT healthcare!!! For me, they had a family doctor with NO expertise deny the prescription from my dermatologist with years of experience. I have to appeal with the state and the officers of the company REFUSE to speak with me. In fact their help desk REFUSES to provide any actual assistance. They keep closing my help requests and telling me to call the care center who refuses to acknowledge the issues at hand. All of the processes in place are designed to discourage consumers from pursuing coverage that doesn't maximize the company's profits. It is sad that a company who is in business to service customers believes they are only there to feed profits.

Tried from multiple locations and browsers, message "we are experiencing technical difficulties" is received each time. No technical assistance available. Called Customer service. Ten minutes later was told I did not reach correct department and they switched me back to the automated menu which does not provide a technical support option - horrible. Can't send an e-mail either, because you have to SIGN IN to do so - and I can't SIGN IN!

I am frustrated I have to give one star. I have been paying for their co-pay plan (over $1,700) which is supposed to cover all medical expenses above and beyond the co-pay as long as they are medically necessary.
I had a ruptured disc that caused me to collapse because of the pain. I went to the ER and they discussed do an emergency operation, but I said I could wait until the next day when everyone was in, trying to save a little cost for the insurance company because they had been good to me up to this point. I was operated on and found out later BCBS of NJ was saying the operation was not medically necessary and they would've wanted to try additional things before they operated. ME TOO! however, the piece of ruptured disc was pushing on my spinal cord and causing damage to the innermost part of my spinal cord and slowly ruining my ability to move one of my legs, not to mention the horrific pain of having pressure on my spinal cord. Which is why it was an EMERGENCY.
After I heard this, I called the doctor and told them what had happened. They were taken back and said ..."We don't do surgery unless it's medically necessary..."
When I call to talk to their customer service, I sit on hold forever and they can't put you through to someone that can help you or at least a decision maker that has the courage to tell someone directly a decision that they made. What a waste of money and time. The next step is talking to a lawyer and pursuing litigation which will not be pretty for them.

I had my credit card info kept in its payment center. There was an unauthorized charge of $650!!! Every time I talked to its CS rep, which I was being switched around to different reps. Once I was kept on hold for two hours. DO NOT STORE YOUR CREDIT CARD NOR BANK ACCOUNT INFO in Horizon BCCS. I can't believe such a big company with a long history, has no care, none professional and a mess of its billing system! Disappointing!

If I could rate this less than an one star I would. This company is horrible. Have called 5 times about a pre authorization and have gotten 5 different answers. No one knows what they are talking about. 5 different answers for the same question, unbelievable. Spent hours trying to get an answer. Now I am on hold for a supervisor which has been 15 minutes already. I am going to lose it and call the corporate office any time now.

For over 3 hours I have been passed around from incompetent customer service rep to incompetent service rep and I still don't have an answer about where I can receive a vaccine and be covered. When I went to the Rite Aid, they told me that they are not in a "partnership" with the pharmacy so they were unable to give me the shot. When I called Horizon they said that I am, in fact, covered. Then they confirmed that I wasn't. After being passed around to 5 more people they were still unable to tell me where I am covered. My company currently uses Horizon for over 600 employees. During open enrollment, we will be look elsewhere for our employees.

Absolutely dreadful company, incoherent customer service which seems to be based in the Philippines. Billing is always incorrect. Portal is difficult to access and use - yet despite that they still let your data be stolen! It's' a testament to health care bureaucracy that these companies still exist.

I m currently still on the phone with a rep and have been so for 1 1/2 hours to get my insurance card mailed to me !!!! I cannot understand her because she does not speak English and every time I ask a question she doesn t understand me and I m put on hold for another 10 minutes to have still no response when she returns . I pay quite enough money to this company and with that being said it shouldn t take anyone 1 1/2 to answer one question. Spend our money wisely and hire a staff that is trained by you to do a job correctly
