BMO needs to do something about their customer service for this department. Their wait times to talk to a representative are well over an hour consistently. I am extremely disappointed with this service and will be transferring my investments ASAP.

Everytime I call Investorline I get through super fast and the customer service reps are some of the happiest people I've ever come across! They are always helpful. I find the platform super easy to use for self-directed investments.

All the reviews are true. High Fees! Poor Service. I have 2 other accounts at competitors. Service is a lot better with competition even though there are times you need to wait on the line with the competition. I really wanted options trading. I had to submit another full application via email for my full account. They never got it, so I sent it again. No response for days and days. Still no response. Continually have to chase them for a mistake they made at opening! With competition you can do these things online and quick!

Log in takes forever. Then a message finally came up saying they are currently upgrading to improve the service! Do you believe the message? No headsup on a trading day early in the morning! Why not just be honest and say that your system's down!!

Before October 9, 2020 - 2/5:
It's been pretty good for many years until recently, one of the securities has name and symbols changed on Oct 13, 2017. Nov 7 now, I still cannot have an "Action" popup dialogue box to sell the security. Their online support took 4 days to reply my 1st message, and told me it was working while it was not (I guess they did not check the real scenario but just tested a simple "Buy" action without trying the "Sell" on holdings. 2nd message I sent them, no reply for more than 7 business days.
After reading this case, you be the judge yourself.

The above issue was finally fixed somewhere in late 2017.

Further, some of their features and/or functions are better than other institutions, However, the symbol change of a security issue is really bothering me. E.g. another institution already has message telling me of the change the day before (Nov 1, 2018) it happens; BMOInvestorline doesn't even tell on the day of change. You simply cannot access that security.

They are really lacking some effort in this area. It could certainly make investors feeling frustrated. Nov 2, 2018, at 9:35, the old symbol was gone, new symbol was not there, so you couldn't find anything of that security. At 9:45 am, finally, they had it updated. Real funny in such a situation.
I guess they had today's issue fixed, much faster than last time.
Hope they will do better.

BMO INVESTORLINE online account statements are quite detailed and informative. I would give it an edge over the CIBC INVESTORS EDGE statements. However CIBC customer service has indicated their statements will get a major revamp possibly in July 2020. As with regards to costs of trading, BMO trails CIBC. BMO is at $9.95 per trade compared to CIBC at $6.95 per trade. Its 2020. There should be NO costs for trading!! Canada lags behind the U.S..( so what else is new) Services in the U.S. do not charge!! The only place in Canada that I know that dont charge is QUESTRADE and I believe Scotia Bank ITRADE. Come on Canada, get off your duff!!

Rep tried to give me false information for the tampering done to my portfolio and freezing real time price on it. Which is malicious and ontop of this, they wont let me withdraw my money back to my chequings i have all cash more than 2 days its been available and i am instead stuck on hold on the phone for past 2 days waiting more than 1.5 hrs. Don't bother looking into BMO investorline as your trading platform if you are an active trader. (1) Servers down 4 times in a month (2) no pre/post market access (3) keeps pushing platform upgrades during active trading hours (4) platform keeps crashing during heavy trading volume (5) back office couldn't even execute according to phone instructions...just simply unreliable.

They had a promotion that ended in June 2020 giving you money if you opened an account and transferred 'x' amount of money. I did this but recently noticed I never received my money. I tried to email them from inside my account but apparently their email is still shut down (since March) so they can better support the customers over the phone. So now I have to call in for the seemingly simple matter but like the many others have not been able too. I spent 60min on hold yesterday and gave up. I'm currently just over 2 hours on hold and still nothing! When I was placed on hold the message said I may experience a wait time of up to 50 minutes.. I feel so committed to waiting now but I don't know how much more of this music I can take. They really need to fix this, open their email, a chat service, or a call back service.

I waited another 30min so a total of 2 hours and 47minutes then I hung up. Funny however... someone is monitoring these reviews, they respond faster here. Perhaps this person should be responding to emails or answering phones!

Terrible customer service and set-up process. I thought since I was a BMO banking customer this would be easy. Wrong! After receiving considerable misinformation, 5 calls, 1 visit to the branch later, I am finally set up. The market moves quickly and the opportunity I wanted to take advantage of has already passed.

Also, once you have it set up, it is just as inconvenient transferring money between a BMO checking account and BMO investorline account as an external (non-BMO) account. Not recommended to current BMO customers because it doesn't make your life easier at all.

The online interface looks as though it hasn't been updated since 1999, long wait times when calling customer service, and still charging high fees as competitors offer zero or low commissions. There is truly no benefit to using BMO Investorline, strongly recommend any other alternative.

Wait time to speak to a staff member takes well over half an hour. They are making no effort to improve on the wait time. About 2 weeks ago when I complained to a staff member after a long wait, that all my holdings were in the red, meaning that I had lost all the gains I made in my accounts, I was told that I was the only one with the complain. I thought someone had hacked into my accounts. It was one scary experience having to wait for customer service for well over 45 minutes to raise my complaints. Fortunately the problem was fixed while I was waiting for customer service.

Hidden costs. Poor customer service and long time waiting even before pandemic.
When you plan to buy USD stock, they charge you way more than current rate. I traded when the USD rate was 1.29 but they converted my CAD to USD on higher rate (1.33) which made USD240 in USD6000. It is just a live example. On the other side, when I opened my TFSA account, they said you can move your funds with no charge any time. I moved my funds to another broker and they charged me $150+tx for cash out.
Uneducated agents even in their own products. The agent drops an answer even when is not sure about the answer, instead of asking another colleague or manager.

BMO investorline is not accessible for 2 days in a row. I waited 2 hrs on the phone and no represensative show up. I am very disappointed with BMO investorline after so many years at BMO. I am seriously thinking about closing my account after being a gold member for years now. I need someone from BMO investorline to get back to me.

I was a happy Investorline customer for several years up to 4 years ago at a preferred level. While I did not have a huge amount in my accounts I still had enough to be invited to preferred Calgary Investorline customer events in the form of workshops, events, and updates. As well I had a personal Calgary contact who I could call whenever I had any issues. Concierge service yeah!. Then all of sudden this disappeared. Seeking lower fees, with commission free ETFs, I switched to Virtual Brokers. Have been with them happily ever since. Recently it took me two weeks to transfer funds from VB to another provider, which I found to be unacceptable. So when a local BMO planner suggested I take a look at the Investorline platform, and receive a small cash incentive (roughly 10 bps of account value) I was willing to take a serious look at the BMO offering. Then things began to fall apart. A flawed sales process forced me to call the Calgary Toronto Sales Manager, who then said he would have to run my eligibility by yet another Manager. Come on guys, I am not travelling to the moon, I am just looking for better service! Smelling odors of the retail car industry sales practices was an instant deal killer. Never promise the customer one thing, then give them another and then yet another. Have you never taken an effective sales course? Bottom line, BMO Investorline is ok, but there are likely better platforms. Check out broker comparison tools online for more details. Money Sense and Rick Carrick of the Globe and Mail have done great comparisons and rate BMO with only a middling grade. If BMO wanted to, it could easily beat the others, in the meantime they will miss out on increased market share thru muddled sales practices, and less than optimum platform / pricing.

I have now been on hold waiting for a representative for over 60 minutes. This is no way to run an online business. The branch that I go to have wonderful people and the service is great, but Investorline needs to drastically improve their customer service/support because I can't imagine clients will stand for this type of waiting. It'll be quicker for me to go Downtown a see them in person.

the most incompetent organization i have ever had the misfortune of having to deal with. they repeatedly lose the power of attorney documents, that i had sent multiple times from a branch. customer service are friendly but do not make notes so each time i have to start from scratch. once again, they blocked my access so i am unable to pay the nursing home or caregivers for my father. they were able to "unblock" a few months ago after several calls, but this time i again have to send the same documents from a branch. which i did. somehow they did not receive them. so we sent again. then they realize they need another document which had been sent multiple times. i have lost so many hours, and suffered enormous stress and embarassment trying to explain this to the people i am supposed to be paying. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Web crashes constantly, refers you to telephone trading, which is no longer available. Then telephone trading advises you they don't actually exist and refers you to the website. And the 'groundhog day' cycle just goes on and on.
Research tools on Investorline's drop down menus don't actually work, but they blame the 'third party' service, ironically ignoring the fact they created a drop down link for research via that third party. Their solution? Go onto the third party's site to do stock comparison and screening tools and come back to Investorline site to buy stocks and pay their service fee for the privilege!
What a useless, money-grubbing and lame service. BMO has outdone themselves in the money over client care and service game! Bravo!

BMO investor line is a self directed trading platform offered by BMO. They helped me set it up, answered all of my questions and have helped solve some issues I have had during my initial start up. Over 100 trades later & I am as satisfied with the service as I was on day one. It's secure & directly connected to my bank account. I have heard horror stories from family and friends with other banks and financial service platforms. They are in the process of making the switch. If your concern is secure banking than BMO should be on your list of providers.

Lack of/Poor customer services - only two ways you can reach out to them, by phone (which takes on average over 40+ minutes even when you call at 8am sharp) or by email (they will respond to you in 2-3 days). Good luck with dealing with them. It's 2020 and BMOIL still doesn't offer live chat.

The comments about customer service on here are sadly accurate.
I thought everyone was exaggerating and opened an account anyway... same experience as everyone else.

The customer service reps are straight out of central casting: "I apologize, sir, but there's nothing we can do", "The policies are...", "at this time, we are unable to..." etc. etc. It's like they are reading pre-approved responses.

In addition, the UI is overcomplicated, with too many steps needed to place a trade, and an enormous barrier to entry to use their "pro" system which has streaming real-time quotes.

RBC Direct Investing offers a significantly more user-friendly experience, and their customer service is much more human.

Tried Monday to transfer money from my BMO savings account to my self directed TFSA. Still Friday evening no results. Can't get anyone on the phone. The transfer is in the queue with confirm number but nothing. Helpful staff at a bank branch confirmed it should go through. Nothing they can do. I realize there is a crisis but is it that hard to set a toggle and move the cash? Does one of the largest banks in Canada have an automated IT system or remote tech staff that can't serve customers? No they don't! My Edwards Jones Agent has advised me to come down with a certified chq Monday and he'll make trades immediately in a TFSA. As a customer since 1995 I'll close my BMO accounts and move on if it comes to this.

I'm not sure if it's even legal, but Thank you BMO.

I think at this point it's passed incompetents and finished my trading day.

I've used four different online trading platforms and BMO Investorline is by far the easiest to use . They offer detailed reports and I've never had any issues trading. When I switched to another competitor, it was a terrible mistake as they lacked the ease and features compared with BMO Investorline. I have since switched back to Investorline and feel that I made the right decision.

They do not accept emails during COVID, the wait times are over an hour with no call back being offered, AND sometimes they have too much volume to even allow you to hold. Every time I try logging into my BMO Investorline account, it deny me access displaying a message that shows I have the incorrect user account and /or password. I am 100% that the user account and password I type each time is correct. I often have to call in, having to wait until the weekdays, and than put on hold. The customer service even was able to see that I had provided the correct authenication but somehow it would not log me in. For more than fiteen times it had happened. You would think this should be fix by now after the first call in.

I will be changing my bank even though I have been with BMO for over thirty years.

Incompetent Resources at Multiple Levels - My ordeal lasted 4+ weeks when BMO InvestorLine incorrectly calculated my RRIF withholding taxes. I called to correct it and they did on my RRIF account but also performed a Withholding Tax Cancellation within my non-RRSP account that DEBITED the amount of tax initially withdrawn a second time. Even though this was a non-sensible transaction (taxes go to/from your account to Revenue Canada, so reversals should not even involve your non-RRSP account, let alone take more money out of it in a Cancellation/Correction!), no one I dealt with on multiple fronts and even manager (escalated) levels could understand that. Worse still, is they denied any problem for several weeks. Yet worse, is they started not taking my follow-up calls and returning calls much later than promised.

Long story short, It was 4+ weeks until BMO InvestorLine finally admitted to their error. No meaningful explanation of why they erred; why they were so delayed in refunding my money; how they can make sure it doesn't happen again; nor any compensation offered for all of the hours of my time wasted on following up and re-explaining the same error to all the BMO InvestorLine support, manager resources they made me talk to over the 4+ weeks.

I would not recommend BMO InvestorLine service, their ability to handle escalations, nor their care to clients issues -especially when BMO InvestorLine was in error in the first place.

Horrible app. Customer service makes you wait 45 mins before talking to them. The chart on the app has no indicators and you can't zoom in. The investorline app tells me random numbers all the time and isn't correct. I put 15k in the account and it only shows me 8k on the app... even after settlement dates the app still takes longer to update . I wouldn't recommend for anyone and I wish I never went with BMO . I am closing my account with them as soon as I take all my money out. Pathetic company almost everything about it is bad. Long waits at their locations, understaffed, slow and closes early and isn't open on weekends...... I'm thinking about closing my whole account

Unable to reach BMO InvestorLine by phone this past 24 hours. Line automatically hangs up on me. I am trying to get some money out of my account, so have to call them. They are are making it almost impossible to withdraw funds.

Seriously considering my trading module to someone else's. Been BMO customer for 15+ years but this is so far the worst quality service i have ever got.
1.5 hours of no response from the call centre while i need to trade my stock ASAP. spend 4 days already just try to contact them. (if i got my account got froze after creating client id, why do you not contact the customer when you guys have my contact infos from top to bottom)
One more thing, I know you guys try to cost saving, but employee people at least sensible level. If you cant do that, of course i found no reason to see you guys to do business in this field. If cant manage your business, at least make local branches can handle the account issues.

p.s what i have expected was not autogenerated answers back from bot. But a response from the customer service. which is not still happening after sending the email too. Your customer service clearly betrayed the my expectation from top to bottom.

Successfully changed my password (and wrote it down since i have had issues with BMO Inverstorline not updating passwords properly) and when using it to access my account, it didn't work, and after a couple attempts entering the new password, my account was suspended. I have now spent over 5 hours on the phone (and still haven't gotten through) waiting to reach a representative simply to un-suspend my account due to their internal software not updating passwords properly... I do not recommend BMO Investorline and once I regain access, to my account I plan on switching brokerages.

However, it took the next business days to receive. I called back every hour and they kept repeating the same answer " I apologize for the delayed. The representative is currently busy taking care the other client. Please call back or he will return your call". I need the fund emergency. I can't trust them no more and going to cancel the account once and for all.

This is really awful for traders and investors, they can't even buy and sell when they need to cause the site is down so much causing potential loss of money because we can't trade!

I need to make some account admin changes. For four days in last 8 business days, I held the phone, each time for more than one hour each. All I get is that now-repulsive recorded message "Thank You for you call; we are working ...." , without anyone coming to line. For such a big bank to give this type of service should be a crime! It is also very difficult for some customers, especially seniors, to unhook from them and go elsewhere at this stage. Sad!!

I've been with investorline for the past three years and it has been a pleasant experience. When issues do a rise, a quick phone call has solved them each time.

That is best security when going for legal action. Often they blame software but they have full time employees going after your money. Also make screenshot every one hr. Good luck

I have had numerous times the problem with accessing my account. I am successful in resetting my password and I do receive this acknowledgement. When I go to sign in it says "something went wrong" . This occurs on an on going basis and therefore I have to call in. But their answering machines come on line and instead of having the customer leave a phone number they want us to hold for 50 minutes???

Another morning wasted with BMO Investorline. They have recently closed an account of mine that was opened to take in an RRSP transfer in. Now they have a 30K cheque of mine but no account to put it in. My pension was also supposed to go to them. They told me to send in the transfor forms so someone there can fill it in and send it back. After waiting a month for this. I get an email asking me to call in. spend 2.5 hours on hold to hear from someone that I need to fill in the forms. It clearly states that a banking rep has to fill in the forms on the second line of the form I sent. I asked them if I can go to the IVL branch on King st to get this done so i dont have to wait another month. She tells me to go there. I go there and well it is closed down. Now I have to call back and waiting on hold for 1 hour already. I am so frusterated with this company. I have never been more upset with such lack of service in my life. I would never recommend BMO Investorline to my worst enemy. I know someone will respond to this telling me to email them. I know for certain no one will reply to this email. I hate this place as I am missing out on so much market activity and no one takes ownership for anything. everyone just passes the puck.

Not only have I called Investorline on several occasions due to my trading password being suddenly suspended - and waiting more than 80 minutes on the phone one occasion - but when I originally posted my review of this poor service the response from Investorline was to email them at rating.reviewsupport@bmo.com so my issue could be addressed. That was 4 days ago and I still haven't heard back. Unbelievably poor service.

There should be class action against them. This is the worst platform for trading. When the website/app goes does down (today 9 Oct, 2020), which btw happens quite often, they don't even pick up the phone or have a message that the website is down. They should not be in this business as trading is a serious business. No room for monkeying around. Shame on you BMO

I've been with BMO Investorline for over 20 years....

I've been with BMO Investorline for over 20 years. What started as a decent trading platform with reasonable support slowly degraded with poorly designed and implemented user interfaces and trading software changes. There are a lot of software bugs too, and when they fix some of these they introduce new bugs. I now experience problems with login approximately one out of three logins and issues with orders (especially when trading options) on every 5th order. Security is a joke: they only allow case-insensitive alphanumeric 6-character passwords with no special characters allowed - this is due to poor integration with their telephone platform that was developed ages ago and has such limitations. To mitigate such poor security they lock you out after 3 failed attempts to login. Whoever designed this nonsense must have learned security in 1980s... well a lot of things have changed since then. Their recently added support for 2-factor authentication is more of a nuisance than a real solution. Telephone support is terrible, I am a 5 star "diamond" client (i.e. their highest tier) and have to wait up to 20 min before I get somebody on the line. In most cases this so called "broker" on the phone barely speaks English. Every year I make a decision to leave Investorline... but I am too busy (or lazy) to actually do it.

I have literally spent countless hours over the past 2 days trying to contact BMO InvestorLine and have not been able to get a single advisor on the line! I have not been able to trade as the system says my trading password is currently suspended. I ve lost thousands in trading as a result! I m literally at a loss for words. This is completely unacceptable.

Overall your customer service is poor. No one answer the phone regardless of the reason of your call. Further the management hides so that a customer can never reach to them. Hear nothing, See nothing and thereafter live happy. Good company Policy. Learn from the government how to service clients.
