We bought a truck approximately a year ago, and we went to a independent repair shop for routine maintenance and found out that it was in a wreck prior to our purchase. When we purchased the vehicle, all reports were clean, this was somehow overlooked. I immediately called the CarMax we purchased the vehicle from, and they urged me to bring it in asap. So my wife and I went the next day, and spoke to a manager. The first manager was not very responsive after they looked at the truck and indeed did see that it was hit and repaired. We were assigned a nice sales lady named Shama and she was kind and compassionate in trying to help us. The first manager seemed to disappear and not have a care in the world, but Shama directed us to another manager named Roosevelt. The two of them helped smooth over relations and gave us an acceptable offer on our current car and found us an alternative vehicle. Safety was our first concern, and the new vehicle was comparable. They made it so no money was lost. Ultimately, after a rough beginning, these two individuals really saved the day. Everybody makes mistakes, its how you take you take care of them is what matters. These two individuals really helped our family, and I would return as a customer just because of their actions. The biggest lesson learned is that these car check services are not reliable and 100%, theres a lot of ways information can not be reported.

CarMax was an amazing! We moved from overseas and were able to hold and transfer exactly the car we wanted for our family and it was waiting when we arrived. No hassle and exceeded our expectations for car buying. We will never NOT use CarMax to buy and sell our cars.
An easy sale experience. No surprises. Just a quick appraisal and a check. If my plates didn't get mangled when removed from the vehicle they'd have all five stars
I'd recommend carmax if you are going to buy a used car. The sales process is pretty easy and their website is great to see all of their selection including vehicles at other locations. I did a transfer and it was easy and the vehicle arrived in only a few days. I did have some issues with a water pump and they fixed it at no charge per their 30 day warranty. And the service department was great giving me updates each day and offering a loaner car.
I purchased a car advertised on website and in-store as a turbo engine, which turned out to not be true. Carmax let me return and re-purchase the vehicle at a cheaper price, but the billing office was completely unprepared as to how to handle this. They didn t tell me what I needed in order to properly finance the vehicle a 2nd time, and now I am in an ongoing back-and-forth with Carmax and my bank to re-apply and re-finance the vehicle, months after I drove it off the lot, and I m going to be stuck with whatever new APR I get. Unfortunately I m greatly disincentivized to ever solicit this dealership again. If you plan on relying on their 7-day money back guarantee , be warned that you ll have to go through the reversal process with Carmax AND your financial institution, which may be a very cumbersome process.
I had an excellent experience with CarMax Dulles. Gregory was friendly, patient and knowledgeable, did great research for me, made good recommendations and thoroughly explained all my options. The transfer , documentation and financing process was made super easy and I was thrilled to drive away in my new car within a couple of hours!
Carmax makes it so easy! We shopped online, ordered a car transfer and as soon as it came in we got a call to test drive it. Everyone we spoke to was pleasant and eager to help.
I've always had great experiences at carmax, Alex was our consultant and by far the easiest to work with! He was never pushy or tried any of those, "Used car salesman tactics."
I sold my car in October, and Elham was the associate that helped to guide me through the process, which was very smooth and easy. I would highly recommend selling your vehicle here in order to avoid hassle with private sales, and ask for Ms. Elham K!
The whole experience was good. The process took into consideration the current physical separation rules, although I do wish that more of their employees would have used their face masks properly. The price we received for selling our car to Carmax was more than I had been offered by the dealer from whom we were purchasing a new vehicle.
I recently purchased a 2016 Acura TLX V6 AWD from CarMax in Dulles, VA. What a great no pressure, no hassle experience! I had them hold the vehicle I wanted for two weeks as I was out-of-state. I don't think I was there more than an hour. If you go during the week it is a breeze to get through the paper work (I hear weekends are a zoo there). Everyone was helpful and courteous. I've bought other cars through CarMax and have had similar experiences. Make car buying a breeze ... use Carmax!
I came here from very far because TV comertials say wonderful things about CarMax. So I made an appointment a week ago and arrived on time (Saturday, I know they are busy than weekdays) but I noticed people who arrived after me, they had the appraisal before me. I just did the comment to the person who took my order and he just said to me: if you don t have time you can leave, I don t believe you another person that came after you got the service first and I just replied excuse me ! I talked to the manager who was very apologetic and said this person has been working here for more than 20 years, so I really don t care, I just demand to be treated like the rest of the clients. By the way, I never talked to the person unpolite manner. I know nowadays everyone is nervous about the virus and the general situation, but they need to know how to treat the whole clientele. I m disappointed about it , but the person who did the appraisal was very profesional (Tim) and also the manager.
No hassles! I avoid buying cars because the shopping and purchasing process is so horrible. I hate the sales people, the negotiation ploys, and the tedious paperwork on 1980s printers. On a friends recommendation, I reluctantly tried out Carmax and was simply delighted. Car chosen, financed, and purchased in two hours. I don't believe I'll ever go to a traditional dealership again.
Everything went very well. Carmax transferred the truck I was interested in to their store, which only took a couple days. The salesman was very helpful and answered all of my questions. The paperwork part went faster than my experience at buying vehicles from the traditional car dealer. Yes, Carmax pressured a little about service plans and the like but, where do you not get asked that when buying a vehicle.
Be Ready to Wait - Sold my car to CarMax in May 2019. I came to CarMax with all my paperwork ready to go. I received a very fair price; however, I had to wait almost 2 hours to meet with a Sales Consultant and didn't leave until 10 PM.
I had a very pleasant experience. One salesman in particular, Stephen Wright was very professional and engaging throughout the ordeal. Overall, my experience was nice one - there were other salesmen I interacted with that were professional as well. However, I wanted to give a direct kudos to the him. Still loving the car too by the way!!
The car buying experience was fine, Wally helped me at the Dulles store and he was nice as can be and was fun to be around. Everything went smooth on that end.
After I left the lot, two days later the car I just bought had the check engine light come on and I had to bring it back in. A week later (it was a pump issue) the car was finally done, and when I picked it up, I was very disappointed in its condition. It must have sat under a tree with 100 birds in it for a week, there was bird droppings EVERYWHERE. I counted 30 on the hood and windshield alone, I was shocked that somebody would not see that and wash it before it was handed back to me. The guy who brought the car around had to look through a windshield filled with splatter, and just left it there and walked away. If I didn't have to be somewhere in 20 minutes, I would have walked back in and asked for them to wash it, but I called and have yet to have somebody return my call ..the service department is impossible to get a hold of.
Great experience - I applied for an online quote, posted the pictures, and received an offer within a few hours. When I showed up to complete the sale, the experience was quick and easy. Would definitely recommend CarMax.
Common complaints about this Carmax center appear to be that you're hounded by salespeople when you walk in the door, and that's normal for high-volume, high-pressure dealerships like a Carmax store. If that DOESN'T appeal to you, take the extra two minutes to call ahead and schedule an appointment with Eimal.
I've had the pleasure of working with Eimal three times in the past year, and finally found the right car and bought it through him. I'm in car sales myself, and I expect great customer service from anywhere I purchase from, as it's what I try to give my customers. Eimal doesn't disappoint. He is low-pressure, friendly, and knowledgable. He's driven everything on the lot, so if you don't have a particular car in mind but have a vehicle type and a budget, he'll guide you to the right car.
I've received nothing but fantastic customer service from him in the three times I've worked with him in the past year, and he's really gone above and beyond. He fixed dents in the car I didn't notice and when the porters accidentally broke the antenna, he had it ordered right away so that I can get it installed later. His manager, Malcolm, was also great - they held the car for me longer than they usually would so that I could move my crazy schedule around to buy my car. Finance was quick, easy, and the car was delivered to me immaculate condition.
I recommend this Carmax, but if you want to make absolutely sure you have a great experience, just call Eimal to schedule an appointment.
Customer service was great but myself and other customers noticed their process for finding trade in value for vehicles were giving everyone two or three thousand under what KBB listed trade in value
Carmax was one of the best car shopping experiences I have ever had. I started with Barbara Swan in Midlothian- she was the greatest help in finding me what I was looking for without me having to look for car after car. And then once we found the car she made sure she had it to another location to test drive and put me in touch with the salesperson in the Sterling location. Once i got in touch with Mr. Alan Munson he helped me to test drive that car and then we found my perfect car with everything we were looking for. The paperwork went fast and easy. He made sure everything was done without hassle. I love my new car.... I know I will be back to Carmax for any other future vehicle purchases. Great job to both of them for making my car buying experience so nice and easy for once. Thanks Carmax. :0
Carmax is a very good place to purchase a vehicle from. I have a few issues with the car but they have a decent process in place to take care of the issues. I do enjoy the quality of people that work their and they stand by their name. In my case I had a problem with the car and they have no hassle taking care of matters. It is far better than a small no name dealership. They have a reputation to maintain and we the public can definitely benefit from that.
Went for appraisal. We were in and out in about 30 minutes. Very courteous and professional staff and the facility was big and spacious. It was certainly a great hassle free place.
My experience admittedly started lukewarm. We stopped in a Friday around 8:30PM and they close at 9PM. It was hard to get anyone's attention, and once I did - it was evident they did not want to take any test drives so close to closing. Definitely different than traditional dealers that will meet you on Christmas day is they must. In any event, my wife loved the car she looked at so I put the car on hold the next morning and called and told them I was buying it.
Things got significantly better when I went back, as I was put under the care of Hahmeed Darham. If you want to buy a car from here, this is the guy to go to! Awesome service from him, and runs around getting things done. I was in and out within two hours and he got all the little imperfections refurbished!
Been back for a few small things I missed on pickup, and they's fixed everything as the service department has been very helpful.
Great experience in total, will definitely look to Hahmeed again should I need to purchase another vehicle!
Long long wait. A very corporate experience with no personal touch. We dealt with 4 individuals who were nice but surely didn't go out of their way to make us feel welcome.
After making an appointment, we arrived and were not on their calender.
The next guy kept calling me on phone with updates when we were at the same seat the whole time we were there (about 30 feet away). He could've just walked over.
The next two people were supposed to help with paperwork and kept us waiting while putting others ahead. Granted, we were there to sell a car rather than buy, but they showed no concern for our time. We were willing to accept their lowball offer offer until they wasted so much of our time with no end to the wait in sight.
No wonder why these guys are best in this business. I can here for my free estimation, met Brian here and he was very nice and friendly. Keep it up guys .
Bought 2 cars from them, a 2002 Toyota Corolla in 2007 and then a 2008 Smart car in 2014 - both involved high maintenance....Now that I bought a brand new car last year at a dealership, Carmax's services are no longer needed for me. A used car at Carmax is pretty much trash.
This is my second car from Carmax. The first was a 2009 Cadillac SRX which I bought at 27k miles and had for 10 years and it ran to 191k miles. Just bought a VW Tijoun. The vehicle only had one key so the sales person put in an order for a second key. That was 1 month ago. I went by the maintenance department twice and each time I was told that the key guy was gone but they took information and said they would call me. To date no call back. I certainly hope I don't loose that 1 key while I'm waiting.
It was the easiest, quickest cast buying experience I have ever had. A little more expensive, but it was better condition car than what we saw at the other dealers earlier. Every one was pleasant and helpful.
Fair warning, this is rather long...but I want people to have a good understanding of the type of unethical business this Carmax is running before patronizing this establishment. Should you have any doubts, I encourage you to read the other reviews about this location's service center. If you're short on time, the key takeaways are:
- After the first 30 days, Carmax's customer service becomes a frustrating and faceless experience, with little to no ability to address issues due to the customer having to interact with virtual representatives that do not have the authority to resolve complaints.
- Make sure to request a copy of the "125 point inspection" performed by Carmax (or any other documentation on the condition of the car prior to purchase [if they will provide it to you]), and request record copies from any secondary sources that refute or contradict Carmax's inspection results.
- Should you find yourself in an unresolvable dispute or unable to obtain responses from Carmax, a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) seems to be the only thing that gets Carmax's attention.
Details: I purchased a Mercedes at the Dulles Carmax in March 2015. The car had a few minor issues that fell under their 30 day full coverage, and they took care of them, which was fantastic. A short time later, however, I noticed water dripping into the interior of the car (after rain, etc.) -- at one point, it got so bad that all the carpeting was soaked. I took the car to Mercedes Benz of Tyson's to have it inspected (I have a warranty with Mercedes directly as purchased through Carmax.) Mercedes indicated that the sunroof pipes (for water drainage) were badly clogged, and that this wasn t an issue that had arisen within the past year -- the car was sold to me with clogged pipes. They offered to fix it for a fee, but recommended I take it back to Carmax for repair first since they failed to clean the pipes prior to selling me the car.
This began a months-long dispute with Carmax that eventually resulted in my having to come $1425 out of pocket to repair the issue, due to an unexpected rainy season hitting the area and my needing a resolution quickly. During the initial stages, my in-person complaints with Dulles Carmax's management (specifically, Craig and Scott) were met with complete disinterest and disregard. Carmax and I went in circles due to their refusal to provide records indicating Carmax had inspected the sunroof pipes prior to sale (which I was told would've occurred during their "125 point inspection"), citing "confidentiality"(?) reasons, and my refusal to now pay Carmax (at a rate of $112/hr) to do another inspection on the car to diagnose the problem (as I believe this would've resulted in Carmax finding themselves not at fault.) My paperwork from Mercedes was essentially dismissed outright, as Scott directly stated he "did not trust" Mercedes' technicians.
Frustrated with trying to deal with Dulles Carmax directly, I attempted to file a complaint with Carmax corporate -- big mistake. All complaints filed with Carmax corporate are either immediately redirected to the original dealership for response (a detail about which Scott rather flippantly warned me), or are "handled" by a social media team that is like a virtual Oz and has zero decision-making power. The only good that came from my virtual exchange was that they were able to provide me a copy of the 125 point inspection for my car. Unsurprisingly, the inspection record did not indicate anywhere that the sunroof pipes had been inspected.
If I knew then what I know now, I would've paid a little bit more and gone with a more reputable establishment. I will never purchase a car from Carmax again and recommend you do the same!
Never ever sell a car to carmax. They issue a bank draft which has a hold of 7 days. Basically you are getting a post dated check. The bank draft is from Wells Fargo and even though I bank with Wells Fargo there is still a 7 day hold due to the carmax account. It's total BS.
In my opinion this is not ethical. And when I called the manager to complain he hung up on me. What a great way to do business. NOT
The new appraisal procedure is very straight forward and convenient. Their cars can be priced on the high side, but expected for being a carmax anyway. Staff can be hit or miss, you either get someone really helpful or not even get acknowledged. I ve sold two cars and bought one car here, never really a bad experience. The new computer set up and self-serve style showroom can be kinda confusing though.
The only place to buy a car. The process is easy with no pressure. The entire staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have a large variety of vehicles to choose from.
I was getting preapproved for a car I found at Carmax through my credit union when they told me the car was priced $3,500 more than the NADA value of the car. When I discussed this with my salesman his response was "well it's very hard to determine the fair market value of a car" and "well most banks will finance you for 125% of the fair market value" to which I replied "why in the world would I pay 25% MORE than the car is worth!!" A little searching revealed that this is their business model to sell all of their inventory above value and finance people for more than the car is worth!! Do not do business with Carmax!!! A little searching reveled a newer model with less mileage and more features being sold in Manassas!!!
I had a great experience here. I got an appraisal on my car, which was completed while I test drove another car. I worked with Troy, and if you can get Troy, get Troy! He was very kind, very knowledgeable and walked me through everything. It was the first time getting an appraisal and looking at multiple cars.
No pressure car sales, you can walk the lot and check out vehicles on your own. But sell your old car yourself they'll only pay you a fraction of it's value.
Everything went well with regards to purchasing my car however, when I emailed my sales associate to tell him about an issue with the car I heard nothing back. I don't have time to go to the Sterling location and was thinking the sales associate would have emailed me back or called me to handle the issue however, he never did. The seven day window to bring the car back has passed which is what I think he was trying to avoid given the amount I paid for the car. The car I purchased had an aftermarket exhaust installed in place of the Chevrolet NPP exhaust which allows you to change the tone and quiet your exhaust from extremely loud to stealth mode (aka good neighbor mode). When I went to go to work the next morning (445 am) I attempted to put the car in stealth mode but nothing happened with the tone. After work I took a look and discovered what is considered one of the loudest axle back exhausts in the market today, a Corse Extreme muffler installed on my Camaro. I didn't realize the car had a different exhaust because I figured the stock NPP exhaust was set to sport/track mode in the settings resulting in a very deep tone. Upon the first start in the morning my car wakes the entire neighborhood! This isn t necessarily a show stopper but I would have liked the sales associate to reach out to me and discuss the matter further and come to some sort of resolution if we could. My HoA has quiet hours and therefore I cannot use the car to go to work. I have already received several complaints that the exhaust is too loud. What was a great sale has since manifested into an ugly question stating why did I buy this car? This is the second time a CarMax associate has not reached out to me after I have purchased a car.
They really NEED to learn how to estimate time better. I was told 20-30 minute wait, that turned into an hour, before someone else conveyed another 40 minute wait..... I left
CARMAX is known for their "No-Haggle" Price and they have proved that over and over to me. What you see on the web is the price and that is it. I do have to say that it does eliminate "the dance" of haggling on the price and expedites the process. But that is it.
They are more than willing to take your car off your hands but don't be surprised that your trade gets the low end of the KBB price that you may have looked up online before entering. Once again, there is no haggling there either.
Getting me into a car that I wanted and out of the car that I wanted to trade in was the easy part. However... This is where the negatives start to show themselves.
The cars that they have on the lot, in appearance, look absolutely great. They look and drive well and in the short amount of time that you have to look the car over, you may think that you have a wonderful vehicle right here within reach. But when you do take it how you realize that you did buy a "Used" Car.
In CARMAX' defense they do offer you a 30 Warranty if you do not buy their extended warranty. But you better be ready to go through each and everything that the vehicle has to offer to make sure they make good on the 30 day warranty. But if they actually took the time to run the car throught the paces that they told me that they did with every car that they put on the lot, and the reason why my trade in was so low is because of that additional cost to prove that they are putting good cars on the lot. Well that was not true on the purchase of my new Vehicle.
Within the first three days I found, one recall, a failed Water Pump that I actually smelled antifreeze on the test drive, a missing headrest, interior lights not working, Passenger side Mirror not working.
OK I will give you the water pump, and the recall, because they both fell under the Drive train warranty from the dealership, but a missing head rest? Lights not working?, a Mirror that does n't work? Once again... These are obvious things that could have been corrected before the vehicle went on the lot.
So the end all of this. My excitement of my new vehicle was tempered by the fact that after five days of owning the vehicle it spent the next 10 days at CARMAX getting all of these things fixed.
I do have to commend the Service Department that they called me each and everyday to give me an update on the status of my vehicle. I was not happy about not having my new vehicle and being put in a loaner, but at least I was not forgotten. So that ups the value of CARMAX for me as well.
Overall I would recommend CARMAX to buy or sell a vehicle as a whole, but buyer beware... Make sure you go through the car and make sure everything works. Make sure they are going to fix it for you. After all, a car purchase is probably the second biggest purchase a person makes after a house. You want to know you can depend on the car after all the money that you pay for it.
This is a review by Jane Patterson. I surprised my husband with a 2015 BMW 328 Xi - a great experience thanks to Carmax and my amazing associate Praveen. Carmax's website made it easy for me to find cars I was interested in and Praveen arranged transferring cars to the Dulles location so I could compare and test drive with no pressure. Praveen, and also CarMax staff KeeKee and Amanda, assisted me in keeping the car a surprise by helping me arrange the finances and make the pick up at a time convenient for me. My husband was thrilled with the car!!
I just purchased my 5th car from CARMAX. Every experience has been a positive one. I deal exclusively with one awesome salesman, STEPHEN WRIGHT!!!! Mr Wright is patient, knowledgeable, understanding and very helpful. Not one time did I ever feel that I was going through this process alone. Every car has been in tiptop shape, and whenever there was an issue, the Service department is always professional, courteous, and informative, while keeping me up to date on the status of the vehicle. Will I recommend CARMAX to my family and friends....YES! Will I continue to purchase vehicles for my family at CARMAX...YES!!! Thank you CARMAX for always making my car buying experience a positive one!!!
Always have a good experience at Carmax. Ruben took care of us on this visit. The third car we've purchased from this location. We had a car transferred from another dealer. When it arrived we realized we didn't want it -- the interior was not what we expected. Not a problem at carmax. We continued shopping and found same model with the interior package we wanted. The transaction part is always easy and friendly. We are bringing the car back for some touch ups and will get a free loaner.
Not happy!!! Had car 2 days before I heard a knocking sound- loud and not constant but enough to ruin the experience of the new to me car- Had to wait 3 weeks to get into service!!! They gave me a 7 year old loaner and proceeded to take my car to the dealer- Friday- all weekend- Monday noon and dealer says they don't hear the noise- I told them I had never driven car more than 10 miles without hearing it!! I had emailed my salesperson for help in pushing up appt. No response then get a form letter saying the sales process was only the beginning of her commitment to me-
This CarMax location is great. We dealt with one of the sales reps to get a car for my son. The sales rep was very professional. This Carmax location has a large inventory of cars and the quality of their inventory is really amazing.
I knew the car I wanted and the details about everything going in. The salesman helped arrange for the transfer of the car I wanted from another store, and kept me posted on everything. They offered me a fair, although on the low end of fair, appraisal of my used car which I decided to take. When my car arrived from the other dealership, I noticed some faults in the car (missing screw covers in the interior, and part of the trunk access mechanism didn't open). CarMax offered to resolve these, but it seems like it should have been something CarMax discovered before I did. Also, while I know it's not realistic to expect the salespeople to know all the ins and outs of every type of vehicle, it was a little disappointing that the salesman couldn't tell me lots of specifics about how different things in my car worked. The only real complaint I have is that I decided to go through the financing offered by CarMax rather than using my bank after the salesman told me that I would be able to make the monthly payments using a credit card - I was interested in being able to accrue points on my credit card with each monthly payment (I wasn't looking to avoid paying by just charging it, but figured I could really get lots of airline miles if I paid monthly using my card). Well, after all was said and done, and when it was time for my first payment, the financing people told me that I had been misled, they don't allow payments to be made on cards. That's disappointing and I feel that I was purposely misinformed to the advantage of CarMax's financing organization. I purchased the extended warranty offered through CarMax as well. I haven't had to have anything done, but I specifically asked the salesman if the warranty covered particular things, he assured me it does. I'm very much hoping that he was truthful in that, as I won't be pleased to find out that it doesn't cover something I expected it to if/when I must have the car serviced.
We identified the car we wanted on-line, called the carmax to have them hold the car, got our own financing through our bank and walked into buy the car at our set appointment time. There was no 'selling', no hassle, we had to be the easiest customers on the planet. Long story short, after sitting there for hours doing the paperwork, they called once we got home to tell us they had made a paperwork mistake we had to come all the way back out (1.5 hours) and bring the car. The car had to be 'unsold' to us and 'resold' to us, new plates issued and it took me another 4 hours of sitting and waiting. unreal. And the manager told me 'it was a great learning experience for the inexperienced sales person'. Wish it had not been at my expense.
My husband and I were there to purchase a car yesterday. Everyone was so helpful. We didn't experience any "pushiness" and we were in and out, all said and done in under 2 hours. We were so pleased with everyone in each step of the process. They were joyful and made it quick and painless. We live an hour and a half from this location and it was worth every second and would go back in a heartbeat. Gregory, who detailed and prepped our car before we drove it off the lot was a gem and so full of joy. There's just no other way to put it. We couldn't be more happy with our experience!
I am a second time car buyer from Carmax and used the same sales man whose first name was Richard. Reason I went to Carmax was the amount of car volume in different models that they have; it saves a lot of time and energy going to different car dealerships and dealing with multiple personalities. Although the prices at Carmax are approximately 2-3K higher than a normal dealer I find the process to be simple and stress-free. Thebpeople at Carmax in Sterling are very nice and friendly. There do not seem to be any sleazy car salesman in the bunch. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the dealing with the business office. The lines and wait time To complete our sale seemed a bit long and cumbersome. However, I drove in at 1 PM with my vehicle to trade in and drove home at 4:30 PM with my brand new Honda pilot. They are fo to complete our sale seemed a bit long and cumbersome. However, I drove in at 1 PM with my vehicle to trade in and drove home at 4:30 PM with my brand new Honda pilot. Therefore, I would recommend CarMax to any individual that wishes to do a one stop shop process in buying a vehicle.
This Carmax has a very large selection of automobiles what ever car you are looking for it is likely you can find it here. However with the gigantic lot of cars it can prove difficult to find what you are looking for. Also there were many employees around the lot and inside to answer questions.
It was all great till the end. The relationship between Virginia and DC for plates and registration is not well worked out. No one seem to understand how it worked. I got different stories. Then it has been over two weeks and CarMax did not send me the paper work for the DC registration. The staff needs clear SOP for this.
Great place to sell your car if you like lowball offers! While waiting for my lowball offer, I walked around and looked at their used cars. Ever single car I looked at smelled horrible on the inside. Honestly, the cars smelled like a wet dog drove them around the lot.
I have purchased 13 cars before, including one from Carmax back in 2013. This past experience was the worst ever. After test driving the Range Rover, I realized there was something wrong with the steering. Carmax Dulles said they would get it fixed so I could test drive it again before buying it. They called me a day later and said another customer wanted to buy the car so if I wanted it, I would have to buy it as is and they would send it to Land Rover that day to fix it. I needed an SUV so I agreed to buy it. When I got there three days later, the vehicle hadn't been sent to Land Rover yet for repairs and they tried to change the price of the vehicle by claiming they had mis-priced the vehicle. After haggling (which you claim not to do) back and forth with managers and buyers for 90 mins, they agreed to let me buy it for the advertised price.I bought the vehicle and I waited 3 weeks for them to get it repaired. After I picked it up, the vehicle still had some steering issues and some some suspension issues It just never felt right when I drove it. Based on this experience, I could never recommend buying a car from Carmax to anyone.
They always take care of us when we go there. Everytime. Thank you. Highly recommend. Probably the only place I know of that is not understaffed. Whenever I go there I see men and women in navy blue tops and khakhi or dockers bottoms.
Carmax is my go to place for cars. I like the no-hassle policy, the ease in finding, reserving or transferring a vehicle, and the ability to test drive a variety of models in one place. My recent purchase is my third purchased from Carmax and all were previously fleet/lease vehicles. I deducted one star because of the lack of customer service from the Sales Consultant. He reminded me of a cashier who didn't get a lunch break. He provided info, yet it wasn't the correct info and was adamant that he was right. The correct info was listed on the price sheet. He didn't bother to check. The process was rushed and he seemed a little impatient. And when I declined Carmax's extended warranty, he became irritable and even more impatient. I'd told him no more than five times and he, at one point, demanded to know why not. While, I'd still recommend CarMax for ease of car shopping, my recommendation is that if you don't like how you are being treated ask for someone else immediately to handle the transaction. I purchased my newish car on my birthday and so far I LOVE it! I would have loved to have gotten the big yellow bow on the hood.
The most important thing about a company is not what they do when things go well, but what they do when things go badly. I'm the kind of person who tends to buy old cars and fix them myself, but I no longer have time for that so I decided to give CarMax a try, and I'm glad I did.
I bought a truck at CarMax, and as it turned out the transmission started to slip right after I bought it. I took it back to CarMax after three days, and asked them to fix it. They turned it over to the GM dealer, and the GM dealer kept it for a week! But, no worries. They gave me a loaner. Then, when the GM dealer claimed there was nothing wrong, they took the vehicle back with no hassle, and sold me another truck (a Toyota Tundra this time.)
People I worked with:
Sierra - Service Consultant Donna - Sales Rep Leandro - Sales Rep Crag - Service Manager Candace - Finance Gail - Finance
Everybody was pleasant and fantastic and all the bumps along the way were dealt with with no hassles whatsoever. I'm not in the habit of posting glowing reviews. This is the exception. My next car will almost certainly come from CarMax.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!! A bunch of con artist scammers! Do not take your vehicle here for an appraisal, you are only wasting your time. It used to be if you took your vehicle to CarMax they would give you a fair honest offer. Not anymore! They will low ball you something fierce. For example, I recently had them price a 2017 vehicle that was very clean, Immaculate condition. No scratches, nothing. They offered me $500 below what the low end of the "rough" value was. They vehicle had 8K Miles. It is also a very desirable model. They made stuff up. No existent "scratches" that I asked them to point out and they couldn't. I had already had a dealer offer me the "clean" price which is close to $3k more than what CarMax offered. CarMax has the same car for sale for $5k more than what they offed me. with almost 20k Miles, 12k more than mine!
And if you are thinking of buying, you are wasting your time. For example the 2016 TRD Pro 4Runner that they have sitting on their lot with 26K miles, and that needs new tires. They want $41k for it. You can go buy a brand new one for that price with all the incentives floating out there right now.
This is my third time selling my car at CarMax. There is a reason why I went, it's because of their people, process [quick and easy] and the courteous professionalism. And, I got a fair deal on my Car - Again
Well, thought I had not done to bad till following day. I heard an add for (Show me the VIN) , which advertises they'll beat Car Max offer or give you $100.00 check. So get the offer then check with Show Me the VIN.
Low ball on a car for sale...and I did my homework before going. Book value placed my car a few thousand over their offer so I'm not that interested in doing business with this company. And the clientele is beyond, almost as bad the DMV. Not rush to ever revisit.
This was a painless experience. I worked with Bonnie H. and I feel like she took the time to get to understand my needs and help me locate the right vehicle. There was no pressure at any time, communication was GREAT (since I had a vehicle transferred in, we were in contact for a couple of weeks). The buying process was easy, I recommend CarMax Dulles, and I really recommend you work with Bonnie.
DO NOT BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY or A CAR from them.I bought a car from them that was shipped from Florida I told them to check the condition of the car and when the car got here the convertible top was in a bad shape, So I purchased the extended warranty for $2800 and I specifically asked my sales associate if the roof was covered and she promised that its part of the car and noise, leaks and everything else is covered by the extended warranty, Guess what? they lied I have been passed around between them and the Maxcare warranty they sold me for almost $3000 and not they are telling me leaks are not covered. I was told by the sales person the convertible top is part of the car and is covered no questions asked.
