First time calling them since setting up my electricity in my apartment almost two years ago. Have to say they have incredibly awful customer service representatives so far.
Had a very simple billing question to ask and site issue to address and after being put on hold for five minutes by some guy whose name I cannot remember, he connected back to me, muttered something under his breath that I couldn't make out or was just muffled, and then promptly hung up. Being put on hold in the first place was unnecessary for the problems.
Called back for the same thing and got a very monotone lady who wasn't much better. Instead of assisting me with what was necessary, I was told to just access the site (and oh look, I wasn't put on hold!). Well, the site was the problem. And instead of acknowledging what the problem actually was, it turned into a phone call to reset my password for my account so I can login to a nonworking portion of the site. Account credentials weren't the problem. Promptly hung up having wasted my time with another incompetent employee.
Can't say I've had this problem back home in California.
I gave them 1 star because of the other two people I spoke with were helpful but the First Lady I spoke with was very very rude and I don't take that well so I chewed her ass out excuse my tongue please I just had a simple question and instead of being professional she was speaking to me like I owed her personally. It was just 82 punk ass dollars that I was calling to pay but I had some questions first and she just called herself going in on me with a very smart allic mouth, I promptly fussed her out. So just beware when you call cause you are rolling the dice in getting a good customer care person or an ass.
Time to file lawsuits! My wife and I worked afternoons and were never home our bill managed to be over $250.00 a month for no reason!
Horrible customer service. On hold a total of 30 minutes and still couldn't get the electric for my new apartment in my name. I wish there were other options in Toledo.

I have talked to customer service representative Tina and her supervisor both are the most I m professional customer representatives I ve ever taked to before. Both had attitudes from the start of the conversation this company takes advantage of its costumers.
Power flickers off quite frequently in the last 2 week everyday on beautiful sunny days with under 10 mph wind. No lines are down currently. One star is for the earlier than estimated turn on power time they have given when we called several times during storm related power outage. Our bill this month is somehow higher even though we had power go out for 2 full days last month. It has turned off for the last 2 weeks flickering off and the back on again. We also have a ground power box almost fraying off the ground which is a possible electrocution Hazzard that we reported last year, that has yet to be fixed or completely replaced. If this problems continue to persist, my family demands a whole property rewire at companies expense, since you're overcharging us anyway, or Toledo Edison can pay for a whole 2 story house solar panel replacement system and everything needed to install and connect the solar panel system. We are currently renting to own so Toledo Edison was never our choice for electric source of power. Make this right. And certainly, stop overcharging existing customers if you want to continue keeping them. Loyal customers are the best customers your company can have, be sure to keep them satisfied with your service, cause a year later, our family is NOT happy with your services.
Worst customer service ever. They make sure you know that this REALLY ''isnt their problem". They send me a notice saying I have until the eleventh to pay on my bill, but then try to turn it off the Friday before that. You know... The day I go to pay my bills. Horrible attitude and honestly it's not like these guys have a great rep to build from.
The customer service is absolutely horrible! The workers are condescending and rude, while they give out wrong information. I've had horrible experiences trying to work with these people.
I called to transfer service into my name, Cant get a real person to talk to me, I have reported over 7 power outages at places that dont exist trying to talk to a person. The phone tree locks you into an area where you have to restart the call. (the 7 power outage calls probably cost them money to check so they should fix that) ive been on the phone waiting for over an hour and the supposed wait time is 5 min. Seriously considering switching to solar, it will most likely be faster getting power into my home.
Horrible customer service, they don't even want to listen to u. The whole utility service industry is just one huge monarchy. What choice do you have, don't pay your bill and lose power, there are NO OTHER electric companies to go with. Thus you have no choice, even though our gov tries to tell us we have a choice, you really don't. I wish we could get AEP. Toledo Edison just sucks PERIOD! Oh and if your late instead of helping you to pay your bill, they add a security deposit on top of that. I mean really, what morons. Thats really helpful. Yeah since you can't pay ur bill we'll just add more to it. Until we shut off your service. Nice. Thanks Toledo Edison for really caring, oh thats right its all about business right?
I work for a construction company that builds projects all across the US and this has been one of the most difficult power companies to coordinate new construction and service with.

Wait time is regularly an hour and a half to two hours. Not acceptable. I've been waiting to start new service for a week and a half for my new apartment, the website glitches out whenever I try to do it from there, and waiting on the phone for that amount of time is a waste considering.
I called about half of my power being out in my home. They gave a 4 hour window but arrived in about a half hour and fixed the problem
Also answered a question I had about another possible electrical problem. Great service. Very personable
I've tried to make Payments and none of it works at all and I've had my electricity cutoff and still they have made zero withdrawals from my account and it just keeps growing!!
Moved into a new rental house, paying my electric bill in advance. 2 weeks later a truck from Toledo Edison drives out and shuts off the power to my house. I had to call and pay for a re-hook-up fee for the power I already paid for. No warning or anything. Their excuse was I didn't call them to answer some questions and listen to an Advertiser trying to sell me Dish Network. All of the questions I answered on the phone were already answered in paperwork I submitted. I will be looking for a different electrical provider.

Another unfortunate example in which the actual technicians (or whatever you would call them) are great, but the customer service and the company itself sucks. They are extremely unhelpful, generally have no care whether you live or die, and aren't afraid to very callously tell you so. They also have a sort of legal monopoly where sure, you could get electric from someone else, but ultimately you discover you have no choice
Lied and told my sister that they would be out same day since she called before noon and never showed.
They take so much money on distribution.

They charge $4.50 just to pay with your bank card! It is 2017 seems like an extra charge just to Bill you more, takes patience to pay your bill using the automated system very time consuming.

December that I was missed billed in August and that I owe a extra 300 dollars with must of been some record setting electric usage in August because I paid the bill in August. The worst!!!!!!!! There s def some scheming going on. Using way less kwh than last year yet our electric bill is over $240??? In an APARTMENT. Call and they just go round and round In circles saying numbers. We used to lay $80-100 a month tops. This is FRUSTRATING. We unplug everything keep the place so cold yet get $230+ bills, there s no way.

My household is one of hundreds that lost power when a tree fell over and knocked a utility pole down. A completely foreseeable occurrence that wasn't foreseen by the power company whose job is, among other things, to foresee such occurrences. It's now been seven hours since power was knocked out, and they still can't give me even an estimated time for restoration of power.
Customer service is terrible, overpriced service, constant additional fees and charges, the only reason I keep them is, as far as I know, they are the only option.
I'd give a negative star if I could, their outages have cost me money and their rates are outrageous

What a disgrace to the greater Toldedo area! It's sad that a company with such terrible customer service is the only option for service in the Toledo area. Another reason I will be happily moving out of this area at my first window of opportunity.
Toledo Edison should be ashamed of their customer service. The guy (Mark?) in the construction office was rude, condescending and talked over me repeatedly.
What's funny is I wasn't even calling to dispute a bill nor do I have a Toledo Edison account. I was simply trying to find out regulations on wire installation height. If I could give this company no stars I would. I would actually rather talk to Indian scam callers daily than have to call this company ever again.
Never a good experience on the phone. Bills fluctuate for unaccustomed meter readings. Very poor customer service. It is unfortunate they are the only electric company in the area.
0 Stars!!!! Customer service is horrible! I've never experienced worse customer service ever! They only care about their money, not their customers. If there was another electric company around to compete with, I'm sure things would change. I sold my house and my last day in it was Friday. So the service for the new owners needed to start on Saturday. When I arrived home on Friday around 6 pm, the power was off. I had no idea they were actually shutting it off. I thought I would have power for the entire day on Friday. They didn't tell me any different. I thought it would stay on and the billed customer would just change to the new owner on Saturday. They were not turning it back on until Monday. So, why didn't they tell me these things when I scheduled the transfer?? I had no idea that the power would shut off for 3 days... no idea that they didn't work on Saturday, since I requested that service for the new owners to start that day. Needless to say, when I called to try to get them to come back out to turn it on, they refused. The supervisor didn't care either - "It's not their problem". My concern.... it's the end of October in Ohio (you never know what Ohio weather will do), it's cold and the pipes could freeze, the sump pump will not run without electricity (and it rained all day Saturday), and they had plans to get everything moved in on Sunday. The new owners have a baby and will have no heat, no hot water, and no lights. This was a misunderstanding and Toledo Edison refused to help. They do not see any of that as an emergency. But, I guarentee, that if it was the other way around, they would expect assistance just as I do.
What has happened to humanity, good- hearted people, empathy, and integrity.....? Do the right thing. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
My husband received a call today that the meter was not being read because there was a dog in the yard. Well my husband was in Florida with the dogs and I was in Toledo at my sister's with one dog. I walked to the house, been snowing for hours and all there was one set of prints going down the street sidewalk. The meter reader was definitely not doing his job. No tracks up to my house at all and no tracks in the yard from dogs. This lazy person probably does this to many people so that he doesn't need to work for a paycheck. Just show up and take a walk. I am going to the company tomorrow and file a complaint in person.

Usually I don't do this but just want to warn anybody out there that wants to do any business with Toledo Edison to be very watchful of their terms and operations. These guys will literally rip you clean of all your money with their lame and dubious quotes. They claim they give you some discounts on service but if you watch closely, you'd see they make 4x from you particularly at the winter time when they know you need it most. If you have a better provider, please stay clear of Toledo Edison. It's bad enough that they have no competitors and thus are milking most people at will on end.
They're really good at making mistakes and leaving you to deal with the consequences! But don't worry becaue they know you can't go anywhere else!
Tried to switch the electric into my name since I just moved into my apartment and it was the worst experience, terrible customer service and I called 5 times just to find someone that wasn't rude. Eventually got somebody that would actually help me and when I was done they transferred my call to some telemarker trying to get me to buy random stuff and wouldn't take no for an answer. Very crappy way to do business.
I don't even want to give one star. I've lived in many, many states in this country. I'm telling you now, never have I lost power this much ever, anywhere. This company is the worst electric company I've ever been with.
I was very impressed with Toledo Edison's responsiveness. I had a tree leaning on a power line, which was affecting the power flow in my house. I called to report the issue, and TE arrived and took care of the issue that morning. I've never had a more uncomplicated, prompt response from a utility company. Thanks, Toledo Edison!

This is the worst customer experienced I ever had.... Nobody answer the phone, they don't care about you, they transfer you without giving any info to the other person so you have to start all over again... I just wanted to start service at my new address. The whole process took an hour and a half waiting on the phone...
HORRIBLE! For years we have had auto withdrawal and in Dec. we received a shut off notice! They never called or sent a letter until we were two months late. I have to say I hadn't checked our bank to make sure payment had been made . There was a mix up because I had lost my debit card and had tried to let all auto withdrawal know, but missed them. It took four or five phone calls to their "AUTOMATIC " service before I finally got some results. IT WAS TERRIBLE AND IF I HAD THE CHANCE I WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT ELECTRIC CARRIER.

Came home at 6:20pm on 9/13/19 to a total power outage. Called Toledo Edison at 6:29pm ,the young man I spoke with gave me an approximate time that power should be back on ( 8pm) recieved that automated message from them saying the electrical problem had been fixed (7:37pm) Here it is 8:53pm and still no power. Called back to (spoke to melissa this time) report power is still out, now she says approximate is 11:00pm or sometime later.
If you actually want to talk to a human good luck won t happen.
They are forcing us to have an inspection before our electric can be turned back on because they removed the meter. So we get to go 2 weeks with no power. It's freezing but they don't care.

The first time there was some bs complication with the previous owner so I had to contact them, yeah I had to contact the previous owner, now the 2 times I ve been on hold for an hour + I get hung up on. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They know it doesn't matter if you ware angry b/c there is no competition. The charge whatever they want, have confusing bills and billing cycles. I was basically meant to feel like a deadbeat, constantly interrupted and treated like scum. This is one of the worst and most hated companies in Toledo but they don't care bc they are bullies and thugs.
Terrible service have had a wire hanging in our backyard since July 30th called that day, called in August, called in September and called today in October. Today they were our repairing the neighbors directly behind us and still did not pull up the wire in my yard and get it hooked up correctly didn't even acknowledge when I was talking to him about taking care of it which we had been waiting since July 30th the first call that is extremly rude. Should not take over 3 months to pull up a wire and hook it up correctly. Very disgusted with lack of customer service.
Ive had AEP before and in comparison the price is a little higher but I will say they have always been good about getting service restored as fast as they can whenever their is an outage. Ive never been out of power more than a few hours at most. Very thankful for that. My statements have always been correct and all The Reps are usually really nice.

Considering that many apartments are all-electric, we sure get taken advantage of. I moved here from BG, OH and, at the time, they bought their electric from and independent supplier and I never had a bill over $50 for a one bedroom. That apartment equal in size and I pay double the electric up here. I nearly screamed when I looked at my first bill. However, they do seem to work with payment options, so that's why I gave it the 2nd star.
Technicians cut power to replace meter with no warning. Work computer and phone shut off in the middle of working. Tech's at my house and workers on the phone were all rude. Their power didn't go out in the middle of working so why should they care?
I contacted them vecause the connection to the house was loose. First off I called was on hold asked if I wanted a call back for an available rep. When I recieved the call back i was on hold for an additional 5 minutes?! Solo I got called back to wait.... Ok. Then I tell them the connection to my house is loose and told that I have tonhire an electrician to fix it and they can re locate the connection.... No I have a connection i judt need it secured... Everything that ive read says the line to the house is theyre responsibility... Thanks for nothing.... Laziness poor customer service!

When I got someone on the phone they said they were coming to trim . They re here now destroying my landscaping! Cutting the trees in half, and they weren t even close to the lines. The most unacceptable and unprofessional people I have ever met. It looks like a tornado came through. People just don t care anymore, it s sad.
Awful Monopoly of a company, phone service and online bill pay is a nightmare. Would be nice to get some rebates for my smart thermostat and HE appliances like other companies offer. Just read an article about a Vermont power company offering leased and subsidized Tesla powerwalls in exchange for it being used to create a smart grid, guess all of these are too much to ask in this backward part of the country.
The only good thing about TE is the power is really reliable and is restored really quickly if it ever goes down

Every other review is totally spot on. They charged me $370 for 1 month of service for a tiny 2 bedroom condo. Seriously? I never once touched my thermostat and they tried telling me that there was a huge spike in electricity last year. I didn't live here last year, so they're either lying, or they pulled some crap on the previous tenants. I know people with 5 bedroom houses whose bills aren't anywhere close to $370. Every person I spoke with was rude and very disinterested in what I had to say. I'm a single mom living on one salary, with no other means of income or help, and I simply can't afford $370 for my electric bill. I had to pay $250 just to put services in my name!! Edison is a bunch of crooks. All of the appliances are brand new, energy efficient appliances, and I unplug everything at night and when I'm gone yet I still have an almost $400 bill?! I'm to the point where I'm scared to get my bill because I have no idea what it's going to be, or why it's going to be so high. It shouldn't be that way, but Edison doesn't care.
Have delt with Toledo Edison for years to fix outdoor lighting that is supplied and serviced by them. They have not fixed the light and when you call you get transferred around several times having to re verify information each and every time. Terrible company, good thing for them they are the only game in town.
If you want rude customer phone reps and rude field service reps, this is the place. In all my years of calling up service companies either to get things turned on, turned off or switched to a different name, Toledo Edison is by far has the rudest, most inconsiderate employees. From my initial call to the schlep they sent out to my office; nothing but attitude.
They seem to have developed a neat habit of not contacting before shutting down the power, I understand if one is a little behind but some warning prior to cutting the power would be nice. They've also left my family without power after a house fire for a week and a half despite being contacted daily. If it where an option I'd drop them like a cancer causing habit.
I hate them. The sad part is they're the only company that has service to Toledo so I have no choice but to choose them !

Would give 0 stars if I could. Terrible, terrible company. Worthless customer service. Had problems not only at my old location, but now this one as well. Can t get away from the monopoly though. I have all my information saved in the worthless app on my phone so I can quickly make an electronic payment at the touch of a button. NOT ONLY does it return my payment after a few days saying account not found everytime I try, but it also doesn t notify me that said payment was rejected. I continue to go about my day not knowing my payment was rejected yet again and now I m getting late fees and shutoff notices. I have to either mail in my payment or call to make a credit card payment. It s funny how the credit card payment goes through when I call it in, yet doesn t go through when I use the app. WHAT A COINCODENCE that there s a telephone convenience fee for using the telephone system. That system is so slow and ridiculous, they should be paying ME for wasting my time. Atrocious. Negative 5 stars.
