no longer recommend. I have been a customer for 7 years. The first 6.5 years I was very happy with Ptera. Unfortunately the last 6 months of unreliable internet along with extremely poor customer support drives me to write this review. I am a remote worker in the IT industry and have the PRO (Business) account. For 6.5 years I had very few issues, less than one outage per year. For the last 6 months I have had to find another place to work on several occasions for up to a week because my upload speed is 0.xx or even 0. Support appears to be understaffed, or unequipped for any troubleshooting other than telling the customer buy a new router (I did) or to power cycle their router and POE (things I have tried several times before resorting to logging a ticket) . It is embarrassing that an ISP would not be able to determine why a customer is consistently loosing their upload capability.

update 12/2/19 - thank you for responding to the review. the latest ticket is 84690 logged 11/26, and I have been adding comments and speed test results to it but now it does not show in my account portal. I just ran a speedtest and the upload speed is 0.69, sadly this is the fastest upload speed I've seen in 8 days and still not near enough to be able to do my job from this location.

We live at the foot of a mountain surrounded by old growth Cedar trees. No one could provide internet for us. Not our landline provider ... too far from the hub. Not our cell phone provider .... bundle and get internet. Oops, we can't help you afterall. Not our satellite provider ... you only get one satellite and it is not the one the internet is on. We have 2 young grandsons who live in Singapore. They were born there. Parents have been there 15 years. We need internet to be a part of their lives...email, Skype, movies. Then Ptera came riding in on their white stallion .... well, their white van .... and saved the day. Our neighbor helped out by allowing Ptera equipment on his property and now we along with other neighbors have fantastic internet. Everytime we Skype with the grandsons, in our hearts and minds are these words: thank you, thank you, thank you, Ptera!

Ptera, Inc. has provided service to Kilgore Construction, Inc. at a variety of our job sites. They are hands down the fastest, friendliest service in our area. They continually go above and beyond providing service quickly and for very competitive prices. They will continue to be our go to for internet services!!

Switched from Comcast business service to Ptera. With comcast we had hidden fees, hidden contract fees and extremely poor customer service. With Ptera everything has been very simple and straightforward. no hidden fees, easy access if we ever need help, and a much better phone system. If your looking for new business service this is the place to start.

Excellent customer service. Prompt to get back to me. We were with Comcast previously and our rates kept going up. I ve never experienced that with Ptera, that tax is even included in the price. I highly recommend Ptera!!!

We've subscribed to PTERA Wireless for several years. They've given excellent service, have alway been responsive to service questions and we have appreciated efficient continuity of service at a much more reasonable price than a former provider.

Excellent customer service, super fast Internet...a great experience! Ptera is a supporter of local community minded organizations, and they were able to keep our organization's communication lines open with short notice during our move. Big thanks from Free Rein Therapeutic Riding!

Want poor service? Ptera. Want internet that is slower than the 3g on your phone? Ptera. Buyer beware. Update 4/2016 If you are looking fro reliable service, for your home or business, try the internet on your phone. It will be much more reliable and useful.

Very slow and inconsistent speeds. I am paying for 15 download and 6 upload, but I have averaged 5.9 download and 1.6 upload over the last month. The only reason to go with Ptera is if you are unable to get any other internet provider. Hopefully one day something better will make it to the area.

Conclusion: I can't recommend strongly enough to not do business with this company!

Ptera bought out my previous provider Velocimax who gave great service. Unfortunately I've had the same experience as many other reviewers here and other places online where Ptera repeatedly gives less than honest answers and makes phony excuses why their service is commonly down and when up nearly always gives me download and upload rates approximately 1/3 of what they say my plan should be.

Nearly every time I've called I've been routed to their answering service in Cheney. So they are either completely understaffed in Spokane or they have so many people calling in with issues that they can't answer their calls.

They give excuses like, "the trees have grown up in front of your dish." When in fact I have no trees in front of my dish because I live up on a hill and can look directly over to the towers on Mica Peak.

They came out and replaced components and then within a couple days the service was just as bad as it has been since the end of last summer when the problems started.

I spoke at length with the previous owner of Velocimax and it seems that they are most likely having tower frequency issues to save money and won't admit to it and make excuses to keep people hanging on.

They have false advertising for the Velocimax customers they bought out since they're charging more than what they advertise for their basic Power plan but refuse to set the speeds higher to match. This is fraud.

I have a FCC complaint pending regarding their business practices. If you are having issues too I suggest googling "Ptera lawsuit" and "Ptera complaint" and filing complaints through FCC.gov and also the BBB. North Idaho and Spokane are too nice of areas to allow their kind of business practices and Ptera needs to be held accountable so consumers know what they're dealing with before purchasing expensive hardware and setup fees.

Best internet service we have ever had. Great people and great service. They work hard to make sure their customers get the best value and they communicate exceptionally well with their customers. Great Job Ptera keep up the good work!

Been with this Co for over 3 years. I do Computer work as well. I have only had problems with them when they have TOLD me there was going to be issues. The staff is always willing to help, and very nice while doing it. 90% of the time when I have had to call them, I have found out that the issues is on my side. Due to an Upgrade with the OS or a firewall that was activated, The other 10% they accept the problem and get it fixed right away. I will NOT go with anyone else. Thank you.

We've been Ptera customers for over 12 years and we LOVE them!! Our internet service is fast and reliable. When an issue arises (which is seldom), Ptera fixes it quickly. Customer support is wonderful and easy to reach when necessary.

I have worked with ptera for several years on the business side and they provide excellent customer service and Internet where many providers fail to even provide services. They are a solid local business and I wouldn't hesitate doing business with them.
Ptera did not ask me to leave this review.

Its good when it works not super fast but pretty good. I mean its the best internet around my area. However it goes out sometimes which drives me crazy like I've been sitting here for the last hour or so with no internet at all. Its frustrating when it just goes out.

Edit. The customer service was really top notch and it turns out something super weird was going on. Anyway i changed it from 3 to 4 stars because the guy i talked to was really polite and helpful and imo thats a really important part of business.

The only reason I left Ptera's service was do to a geographical impasse. I was A grateful user of Ptera wireless for more than seven years . Ptera has the best customer service and extremely reliable staff and service. My only complaint was the need for Ptera to have the call center .( the call center staff are very helpful ) I am saddened that I am forced to use a satellite provider that I know I will pay too much for and have to deal with crappy service and automated call center

I've been without internet for more that a week now. In just last 6 months we had internet out more than a dozen times and it had nothing to do with the weather. Last time my internet went out they told me that my cable is faulty, so I went and got a new cable. That didn't help. So then they told me that my router is faulty, I went and got a new router - nothing changed. Now they told me to pay at least $60 for them to come and check what's going on and then I would have to pay more dependently on what it would be. I said that I've had enough, I'm switching to a different provider. Now they tell me that I still have to pay for next month, because I have to give a 30 day notice. So I paid for the 10 days I haven't been able to use internet because it was out, and now have to pay for another 30 days for no internet.

Anybody out there. I HIGHLY recommend, do yourself a favor - find someone else.

We have been screwed over for years we didn't get the speeds we payed for and that took close to three years and over 200 calls and when they finally fixed the speed problem they decided to turn around and take our unlimited data away they will give you the run around they will not call you back this has been a fully stressful experience with very little reward for the money we have spent for years go with any other company because this is hands down the worst one I've ever had to deal with

I have been with Ptera since shortly after they started! The service and technical support only gets better; I have never had an internet provider that has primo tech support, at all hours of the day or night. You can't go wrong using them!

Professional employees and first rate products made our installation a work of art. The speed to our modem is exactly, if not more, than what we contracted it to be. In our rural setting Ptera is our gateway to the world .

Sub par at best. Frequent buffering when streaming. Speed tests rarely meet the speed paid for, even when no other devices are connected. 2 stars instead of 1 because it s better than nothing when you live in a rural area with limited options.

Great customer service! Moved into a rental and wasn't sure if the antenna was for Pterra, so the lady walked me through finding out if it was and the guy came out the same day with a power package to set up my internet! They were all very responsive, so much better than century link!

Internet service has dropped off bad. I've run speed tests for 3 weeks straight. I average less than .9 Mbps upload and 1.0 Mbps download. I have called many times. The tech is nice enough, but they always tell me they will call me back and never do. Unfortunately we are going to have to try to find another provider. We have hit the boiling point.

I ve been a customer for about six years and I have to say that the team at Ptera is pretty awesome. Has the service been 100% trouble-free? No, but that goes with the territory in rural wireless internet. Literally. However, they have always been RESPONSIVE and have worked quickly to resolve the issues. The technicians have always been helpful and respectful. This company hires normal people that you can feel safe with at your home - not guys that look they are part of some work furlough prison release program - and they know what they are doing. They work quickly and cleanly and solve the problem. PTERA is a small company but is constantly upgrading their network and equipment. They aren t afraid to invest in the infrastructure to guarantee their customers are getting the best service possible. I have other options but Ptera has proven that they are willing to earn my business.

Overall we've had a positive experience with Ptera. The representative who came out to the house was very helpful in setting up a system that would work for us and the online tools are easy to use. My only wish is for faster internet speed but they told me they are working on it.

Me and my family have been customers for a couple ...

Me and my family have been customers for a couple months and it has been terrible. The WiFi is very poor and you can t even stream anything and even when a little storm that doesn t affect anywhere in town it goes out.
We had an appointment for a Monday and they didn t make it until Thursday and they tell us to buy a new router which we did and it ended up being just the same.
They also don t call back when they say they will and it is just very poor service and quality... I would not recommend.

We use this company because our options are limite...

We use this company because our options are limited. Bottom line is they are nice enough to talk to, but I keep having to talk to them. It is one issue after another. First it is they have a tower issue, then they have an 'unknown' network slowdown, then it is our receiver that needs adjusting...now they don't even know what the problem is. I am paying $80 / mo for higher speed and not getting the speed they they said that they would deliver. I am not sure what the issues are with this company, but I am completely sick and tired of the inconsistent service. Oh and I forgot, every time there is a thunderstorm expect to be down for at least a day or two due to tower / lightening issues.

Fed up....

Fast forward to 2018...still stuck with this company because there are no other options...fighting with internet that is barely working for 3 days and it is back and forth with Tech Support and everytime they call back it is with a different tech and they ask the same questions and nothing is resolved...when I ask if they have a plan and timeline for fixing the problem the tech actually says, "It could be a couple days or longer, there are a million variables at play so we have no idea when your issue will be resolved"...I think they have no idea about alot of things and one of them is professional customer service!

Absolutely fed up with this terrible company!!

Thanks to all for great service on recent outage 11/13; from the first TC to Chris who scheduled a same day visit & especially to the two young men who fixed the problem they were skilled, courtesy and did a great job!!!!!

Stay away, now enforcing a 600GB data cap on all customers and charging $20 for every 200GB the rest of the month. Gouging customers who you have a monopoly over does not a happy customer make.

We moved into a neighborhood that has fiber optic cables and we were excited to expect wonderful service. We have been waiting about 2 months to get service! They had trouble with the lines, I m beginning to think they don t want to spend the money to trench and run new lines for service to 2 customers down my street! I can t get any information from them and they NEVER RETURN MY CALLS! I m very disappointed!

UPDATE:
I was personally contacted by Kevin, a Ptera employee, who was in charge of the internet project in my area. He was VERY nice and helpful. He apologized for their lack of communication and he personally saw to resolving my problem. There was an issue with the conduits and they fixed all of the broken lines. We now have internet service and are very pleased! Kevin was awesome to deal with and I would now give Ptera 4 1/2 stars out of 5. I reserved the last half star due to the length of time it took to get my issue recognized. But I am happy now and would recommend Ptera to anyone!

Internet service is extremely slow. I called customer service to have something done about this to no avail. They told me a service representative would call me back to try and sell me a bigger package but never received a call. When I asked how we could go about streaming without it being fuzzy he told me not watch shows in HD. Majority of show on netflix are filmed in HD. We cant watch tv and have anyone on the wifi otherwise experience extreme lag spikes. Unfortunately this is the only internet provider in our area so we continue to get taken advantage of.

Disclaimer: I'm not a customer, so this review has nothing to do with the quality of the service they provide. The extremely rude driver in one of their vans cut me off at a 4 way stop in Otis Orchards on Feb 10th at about 2:50pm, honked at me even though I had the right of way on a left turn after waiting for the school bus to go through, then proceeded to speed up to 60 in a 35 zone. If I found out one of my drivers did anything like that, they would be severely reprimanded. Unprofessional and dangerous person driving a company van is embarrassing, unsafe and an insurance liability. Get some new drivers.

At one time they provided great customer service. That is no longer the case. This last year has been terrible with Ptera. My service is extremely unreliable and over priced and customer service is non existant. When I moved they no showed three separate occasions and I eventually ended up moving the equipment myself. My internet has been down three times in the last six weeks. I have spent three hours on hold attempting to get an answer as to why my service was again down and that was only the one occasion. The last time my service failed I explained my frustration over the horrible service I have experienced this last year. To that I was told they have been doing a lot of upgrading. Where are the upgrades???? I have experienced the oposite and have been very patient with them but I've had about all I can take from ptera. As I write this review my service is down again.
I did have Comcast at one point and found they're service to be very reliable and three times as fast for the same price. Unfortunately Comcast is not available where I live now. Save yourselves the time money and stress and avoid Ptera if at all possible.
Update as of Febuary 2020 my $59.95 bill was $160 by the time they add overuse fees.

It is absolutely a joy to have Pterra as my internet provider.
Pterra is a friendly, personable company at every level. When Pterra was installed at my home the professional on site team were concerned my signal might get compromised by growing trees that might intrude on a clean signal in 5 years or so. In 5 years?! Talk about concern for customer satisfaction! They actually concidered not installing service to my home if the concern wasn't addressed satisfactorily on both my part AND their part. I had never heard of an internet company talk of denying service for any reason, especially for concerns of quality of service! The service is indeed high quality and the concern was put to rest.
Pterra customer comunication is always applicable and timely. I always hear the friendly, animated voice of a caring and concerned individual when I need to talk with a person. Their customer support availability is stellar.
There are no hidden fees or suprise increases in the bill. Pterra is a company of "straight shooters". I recommend them to anyone looking for an excellent internet experience.

I had the strangest and most disappointing experie...

I had the strangest and most disappointing experience with this company. I purchased a house in a rural area, the previous owner told me they had service with Ptera and claimed that it was excellent. I called their office and spoke with a representative and filled him in on the situation. He stated that a sales person would call me back. The call-back did not happen.

The following Monday I called again and spoke with a service technician. He told me to find the brick . I searched all over and discovered that there was no brick. The technician then stated that some person would call me back. The call-back did not happen. The following morning I contacted Ptera again and asked what I could do to facilitate getting some internet at my house. I went through the whole story again about the previous owners using Ptera and there being no brick . The fellow on the phone stated that I could pop on over to their office and pick up a brick then take it back and plug it in and call them. I figured ok, I can be the service technician for this company if it speeds along this process. I drove over, got the brick, returned home, plugged it in, made a phone call.

The tech took a minute after I reached him, I heard furious key clicking in the background, he then says The signal is really weak, it would be so low you would not be happy with our service . I asked him if his system told him why the signal is low. He stated It might be trees, you live in an area with trees. Why yes, yes I do live in an area with trees, it is western Washington after all. I asked if the dish could be misaligned, or the Cat 5 cable damaged, or if I did not connect something correct..... he said no, your radio is old. Ok, what would a new radio run me, he responded with a lot of trees would need to be cut down . I then asked if he could see my property somehow that he was making this judgement from a basement ( no windows in their office) 14 miles away. Don t you send out people to do an actual site survey or do you just pass edicts from a basement bunker?

They really don t want to be bothered over at Ptera. I would suggest moving the business to Oklahoma, far fewer trees there than in Newman Lake WA. I am amazed when I run into people who try so hard to talk you out of giving them money.

I just had Ptera come out and install my new internet connection, I switched from the other guys. Shawn & Dominic were great, they did a awesome job on the install, very professional, very tidy, very friendly, very courteous. They had to route the wire around my greenhouse and many corners. Looks great, looking forward to the new speeds. Thank you.

I don't typically write reviews for anything, but ...

I don't typically write reviews for anything, but I'm inclined to put a word in for Ptera. Up until them, ISP's have been the most dreaded companies for me to do business with. We all know who and why. Ptera is different. Not only were they the only ISP that was willing/able to provide service at my remote location, but they are a local company that is concerned with their local clients, and the level of service they provide has proven that to me. They've been willing to work with me to customize my services to fit my needs, both personally and professionally, and I've had access to get support from Ptera personnel that I wouldn't have a chance talking to at any other ISP. It's been really refreshing to get that kind of service from an ISP, and I'd recommend them to anyone... not just those that are fed up with their current ISP (#everyone), or those that live far enough away from the fiber to be serviced. Many people feel stuck with the one ISP that is wired to monopolize their territory, and doesn't need to provide good service. Cut the cable and try Ptera.

On top of that, their actual internet service has been very reliable, provides the speed and bandwidth advertised, and they are good about communicating outages and maintenance.

Having Internet less than a month. 1st week was awesome good speed and no problems. Now after 2 weeks internet doesn't work and before that it was started to give me problems so I can't work on it and also the speed is 1/2 less what I'm paid for. now im have to find different service. If you have no choice take it but I would not recommend

Update! Bye bye two more stars. Ptera dumped us as subscribers because (get this) WE were slowing other people's service down. Yes, you read that right. First their sales dept. raised the price ten bucks and said that would "fix it". Slowed down more and went off for two days every weekend. We complained and they said "This is your fault". Yes they did. We were the first subscriber out here in 2012. Once they got everyone else they dumped us. And they dumped us out here in the COVID Pandemic with trying to work from home with no internet. This company is EVIL.

Started off great. Fast and reliable. Then every bump in the weather knocked it off. Now it is all over. Fast/slow, off, on, off again, back on but slow. We never know if a video will play for more than thirty seconds before buffering or if the whole thing will play. Makes me afraid to start any videos for fear I'll never get through it without sitting there staring at the spinny thing for ten minutes. I've had them out to fix it but it's not fixed yet. Then they raised the price just about the time the speed went down and stayed down so I'm not nearly as happy as I was last year. Try harder guys as we're frustrated enough to find another provider.

We are located in an area that doesn't have a lot of options for an internet provider. When calls are placed to Ptera they are always returned and I feel they try their best to correct the problems. Most of the time the speed test comes back with good results. Cory at Ptera is very professional and has worked hard to assess and resolve issues, always calling back.

Work from home and needed internet after a move. Multiple companies were unable to get a signal after coming out or checking for signal remotely. I finally contacted Ptera. They understood my situation and were able to schedule install in a timely manner!! Such great service! So courteous and professional. Same high speed internet as my previous cable! Thank you Ptera!!

Great internet service and great people to work with. I live in the country and work from home, so it is important that I have fast and reliable internet service. Ptera provides that. And I love that they are a locally owned business.

I've called twice and finally got picked up by the overflow which was Tech Support, gave them all of my info and was told someone from sales would reach out and have yet to hear anything back. The next day I went to their site and requested the "free site review" with all of my info and still nothing. Apparently business must be good and they're so busy they have no time to follow up.

We recently moved and researched what internet was available in our area. Many neighbors shared their positive experience with Ptera. Ptera employees were very polite and knowledgeable. I am very happy with our service and would recommend them for fast, reliable, friendly internet service.

The service I have received to date has met my expectations and what the Ptera team promised. I was so tired of being frustrated with the Internet service I was getting outside the city. For years I struggled with CenturyLink and most recently Hughes net - so glad I made the switch. I don't think you will get any better service if living out in the rural areas around Spokane. Thanks Ptera!!

Good solid internet connection. Locating my business in a rural area, had about given up on having reliable internet. Suffered two years with satellite and 4G, when Ptera called to offer a better way. Not only is the service quicker and more reliable than either satellite or 4G, it's half the cost! Customer service has been tops. They really went the extra mile to ensure a good site location for the antenna mast. I highly recommend this company and their service.

I have called 9 times spread over 4 business days to try and talk to someone about getting service. I have never gotten an answer as to whether or not they offer it to the house I'm asking about. Most ridiculous customer experience I've ever experienced.

Called in because they just started providing to Cheney Wa and had promos... 40 minutes on hold to talk to the sales and activation team. Finally get someone on the phone from SALES AND ACTIVATION who tells me they will collect my information and have a SALES REPRESENTATIVE call me back to provide me with pricing and sales information... can anyone spot the frustration. Screw the BS just go through century link and Davis similar pricing and they can provide you all the information you need to get set up and activated in one simple phone call. Maybe if I could actually set service up with one call I might be convinced to switch but I'm not going to have to wait for your timing to get simple answers for a service I will be paying for.

Edit: they replied to my comment with some hollow BS. And completely ignored my actual reason for calling in. Looks like all the other 1 star reviews for POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE are 100% accurate. With those being accurate im sure the paying for higher speeds and getting half what you pay for is true as well. What a garbage company with false promises of striving for customer service.

Been a customer for 8 plus years. Decent service at first, when they where the only option. They are now oversubscribed with an outdated network. Where their competitors won't add unless they have the capacity, Ptera keeps adding customers but current customers can't even upgrade their service. They are finally saying that they are upgrading their equipment, but given their past performance, I won't hold my breath. In fact they did notify that there would be maintenance on Monday and Wednesday of this week, but today is Tuesday.....We have rarely gotten the speeds we pay for and usually it's about half. It may be ok for streaming, but not when your job requires a stable connection. Heard an ad on the radio for Ptera and didn't know if I should laugh or cry. How about taking care of your current customers first before you advertise.

I m giving 4 stars even though it took a long time (about 3 weeks) to get internet. However, the crew that came to install were so professional and kept their cool went the system went down in the middle of the install. Instead of being in and out in 45 minutes, it took 1-1/2 hours. They were very surprised that I had waited as long as I had and spoke highly about Ptera.

I have been trying for three weeks or more to get my fiber upgraded per the email you sent me. Every time I call, I go directly to overflow and they can t schedule anything. I have to wait for a call back that either doesn't come or I miss. I keep getting the same message that you are waiting for equipment. How long does it take an internet company to get internet equipment? I called today again (8th call) and still can not get anyone or any answers. She also tried to call you direct and you were too busy to answer. Could I get a call back on the ETA of the equipment? I was told it would be in seven days ago.

I am profoundly disappointed with the customer service of Ptera and their zero sense of urgency to assist customers.
Our internet went out the beginning of last week. We pay for a business account and we utilize that internet connection for our business. After days of troubleshooting both with the technicians and by myself, - the ABCs of troubleshooting - cycling the power to refresh the routing tables, swapping cables, changing routers, recycling the power, restarting the gigabit modem, offsetting the MAC address, assuring lack of obstructions Etc
on day 3 of our outage I began asking them to come out and fix their equipment, or change it out. finally yesterday, on the 11th day, they scheduled me for an appointment 5 days from now, on thursday the 17th.
We are disappointed with the level of support that they provide for both business customers and residential customers. They need to take a serious look at the transition of Information from Tier 1 and 2 support to the field technicians. Fortunately for them there's no other game in town. Unfortunately for me I'll have to keep using them. Profoundly disappointed.

The quality of internet we get from Ptera has only gone down since we got it, the upload and download is trash and much lower than advertised. It barely works at all in the evenings, and the latency is terrible. The hotspot off my phone gives me better internet even when I am plugged directly into my router.

All the 5 star reviews have to be people who literally just use the internet to send and receive emails or are most likely bots or fake accounts.

Our home is in a very difficult location to get service. A friend recommended Ptera. They came out and did a site survey and came up with a plan. It works great. When we have had an issue technical support helps us figure it out. We had a billing issue and that was resolved promptly. Very nice folks to do business with.

I have just had the best customer service from Arthur and Chris that a non techie could possibly receive. A switch of email provider had my wife and I upside down. They fixed our problem and introduced us to their better email provider. Thanks for your prompt response.

I have never got the run around as much as I do with this company. At first the service was great but now we get speeds around 1mbs and when I call tech support I am told the same thing each time, you need to do a bypass test .each time I tell them I don t have a laptop that can do the test and they say oh we ll pass that on . I call the next day and I hear you need to do a bypass test ... this has been going on for over 2 weeks. Oh but I m still being charged $80 a month. What a joke - buyer beware - stay away - try cougar net or Hughes net, they have much better service. Ptera are rude, overpriced and lack any kind of service! STAY AWAY!

Writing this as I can't watch a movie on Direct TV without it buffering every 45 seconds with an error that says my current internet speed is causing these interruptions. Literally the worst internet and our only damn option... BUT we are within the parameters as we had to troubleshoot over the phone today... So pretty much tough luck.

Edit: the account is listed under a different name as another family member set it up. I was told over the phone there's nothing that can be done until you upgrade your system.
