Rented a car in San Antonio and was extremely impressed with the professionalism and attitude of the agent. She was very accommodating and efficient. She put me into a very nice vehicle that met my exacting needs. I will definitely use their services again.

The only positive outcome from this experience is that Advantage has been blacklisted from all future company trips.

So, I originally booked the car online thru Hotwire and did not get to choose the company. Once my reservation was complete and this company was selected, I started looking them up. The reviews are horrendous and I became very worried. Hotwire will not let you cancel. So, I went in fully prepared and looked over all the agreements. The staff was so great at the airport! Very nice, but yet I noticed some tricks. They said they had a larger car available and if I wanted that without saying it was an upgrade (which I knew not to do because of the reviews) so I declined. Then they tried with the insurance which I also declined. Went to pick up the vehicle and let me say once again how great the staff was. Very friendly and very accommodating. I only used 1/4 tank of gas so I filled up before dropping it off. I got an email copy of my receipt on 5/5 that showed I owed nothing more. I was like great! Maybe the company is changing. WRONG! I logged on today to look at my credit card statement and a charge of $97.50 on 5/17 was posted ALMOST 2 WEEKS AFTER I DROPPED OFF THE RENTAL. I know better to even try and call the customer service based off the reviews so I am disputing it with my credit card company. How is this even legal? How can you randomly charge a card almost 2 weeks later when I have a copy of the receipt that shows I owe nothing. The billing practice is what is killing this company. Staff - wonderful. Company - TERRIBLE!

EDIT- Conveniently after I made this review they charged my card AGAIN! I already filed a complaint with BBB and my credit card company will reverse those charges and block you from charging anything more. Again- how is this even legal?!

Final Update - I have changed from a 1 star to a 3. Once i was finally able to get a hold of someone from customer service they sent over invoice charges for "tolls." Except all the toll charges were in NY and I had my rental in San Antonio, TX. I then called customer service, they gave me to Highway Toll Department and they were able to finally reverse the charge. My biggest complaint is the lack of communication and no one checking to see that the charges came from NY and I was in TX and only drove a total of 86 miles. It was a lot of work to get $140 refunded.

I had booked a car 2 months in advance and was quoted a price of 200$ for a week. I got there the people were not that friendly. The guy pulled up my reservation and by the end of the whole process my total came to $686.00. I stated that's not what I was quoted and he began to tell me about all the fees including the one they charge daily because I'm under 25 he stated "they have that no matter where you go". I payed for the car cause I had no transportation flying from Chicago. I went out to the car and it wasn't even the car I had booked and it was super out dated it had roll up windows and the A.C barely worked. I sat there for 15 mins looking for the car I booked and it wasn't even in the parking lot. I called enterprise rent a car and asked them for a quote and even with the fee of being under 25 and all the other fees my total came to 355.00$ for a whole week. And the car was new and in alot better shape than the other one. Needless to say I went back in and asked for a refund they have it to me no problem but the bald headed guy was rude about it. DON'T RENT FROM HERE UNLESS YOU WANT A RIP OFF. Its been a week and still waiting for my money to be refunded.Only good thing was they have the shuttle that takes you to and from the airport so I had a ride back it.

My wife and I flew into the San Antonio airport this past Monday evening (April 30th), and we had a 3-day car reservation with Advantage. We landed at 11:45PM, and we walked straight out of the plane to the Rental Car area. We arrived at the Advantage rental car booth at approximately 11:55PM and there was no one at the booth, but there was a note that said something along the lines of "If no one is at this booth, go upstairs to the Advantage kiosk." So, we grabbed all of our luggage and made our way upstairs. On the way up the escalator we passed a person wearing the "Advantage" uniform (on his way down) and asked if the kiosk was upstairs; he said "yes, but we're closed." We thought we must have misheard him, so we went upstairs to rental car parking lot and we went to the Advantage booth. All of the lights were off, and another agency said that Advantage had closed down for the night. We were like, "say what? we have a reservation with them!" So we started back downstairs and we saw the same Advantage employee that we previously saw. We told him that we had a reservation and that we were trying to pick up our car, to which he said "I'm not sure what you want me to do, we're closed." And off he went on his merry way, without any care in the world for leaving us stranded at midnight in a large city we were unfamiliar with.

I realize that the Advantage office closes at midnight in San Antonio, but we were there a few minutes before midnight and no one was at the desk. I think (and I'd be willing to bet on it) that the employee saw that it was getting close to midnight so he went upstairs to lock up just a few minutes early. Great for him, not for us.

Luckily Budget rental cars was open until 1AM and they hooked us up with a car. Unfortunately all we could get was something $130 more than our rental with Advantage was supposed to cost us.

So, 1-star to Advantage for closing early and leaving their customers stranded. That is very very poor customer service.

I rented a car from here for 4th of July. I booked my reservation via Expedia and was quoted around $100. When I arrived in person, the rep, told us that there would be additional fees. The total came out to $180. We figured that was okay so we went on our trip. We arrived late on 4th of July and called Advantage 1-800 # to inquire if there would additional charges for dropping off the car in the morning. The rep stated no as long as we went before 7am. When we dropped it off, the car attendant took the keys and he didn't say much to us. We went on our way. Fast forward to the next day or so, my boyfriend noticed a charge of $240 on his checking account. He was extremely livid. I took it upon myself to call Advantage and had to speak to a manager. I basically asked why was our total $240 when we were quoted $180 and after going back and forth, I made it clear that this needed to be rectified ASAP and we were not going to be responsible for that extra $45. Ultimately, the manager stated he credited us $45 back but that it may take a while to show up on USAA's end. I will definitely not be renting from this location again since they are not upfront at time or rental on the total amount for a rental.

I don't have one complaint about the Advantage at the San Antionio airport. We had a little bit of a wait to get picked up but our flight was earlier than I said on our reservation. Check in was fast, friendly and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. The car was brand new and clean. They do have a deposit that will be held in addition to what was quoted to rent but I returned the car yesterday morning and they have already removed the additional deposit. As long as you have GPS to return the car, it's a great deal to rent from them when you're in town for AFBMT weekend.

Waited over an hour for shuttle at the airport, however once we got to the rental office, we were treated with respect, and very apologetic. We were offered an upgrade at no extra cost. Our trip lasted longer than we planed, and we were able to call and extend the rental car with no problems. Great customer service. Only draw back was the wait for the shuttle at the airport.

I am disappointed and pissed that I rented from this company. I prepaid for a compact or higher car but was told when I got there that the vehicle they had for me was a mini van! I told them I definatly did not want a mini van but was told that that what I paid for was manager's choice and the choice was a mini van. I asked for a smaller car since I did pay, according to my reservation, a compact or larger. Because I wanted a SMALLER car I was charged for a upgrade and ended up having to pay an ADDITIONAL fee of $97!!!! I will never ever rent from Advantage again! The name should be Take Advantage!

DONT GO HERE. Waited 2 hours for a shuttle from the airport to the car lot and were not compensated in the least for our time. When inquiring about a shuttle for our return trip, the gentleman on the phone very rudely stated "Every 10 minutes" and hung up even though that was definitely not the case. Shuttle driver was very nice, however save your nerves and rent somewhere else.

Here it is nine business days later and there is still a $200 hold on my debt card. Your service is more of an inconvenience than it is of any help. I tried making a reservation via Expedia for a hotel, plane and car rental. The car rental part was not working out every time we were trying to confirm the reservation. An error would should up. We started all over again and just did a plane and hotel and the reservation went trough. After that Advantage car charged us for two car rental confirmations and later realized that they were wrong so they refunded them 3 days later. However, they took $50 off each reservation for a Cancelation fee. So now i had to spend over 3 hours total on the phone with Expedia Advantage car trying to explain how that money did not belong to them and they needed to return it. Scam company. If you dont like my review, then contact me and make it worth my while. otherwise, be stuck with a 1 star because you wasted 3 hours of my time trying to keep money that does not belong to you. I never even got a confirmation with the reservations they said went trough. if that was the case i would have ended up with 3 hotels and 6 plane tickets if that was the case. SCAM company! Dont trust them with your card info.

I recently rented a car with advantage and they kept my deposit. They upgraded my car without telling me and when i got the bill they deducted the upgrade. When i called the main office they said that since I had signed they would not give me my deposit back. It is a shame that for $200.00 this company would do something like this. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB and with the state attorneys office for unethical business transactions. Stay away from this place.

Four days after I returned the rental I get charged an additional $100 and no deposit return in sight. After calling customer service it turns out the store never input the car in their system as returned hence an additional $100 charge. Customer service quickly fixed the situation and refunded the bogus charge and my deposit but the person and manager working that shift are in need of serious retraining. Cudos to customer service. Fixed the situation in 20 minutes.

Arrived from my flight to San Antonio airport; followed the sign to the Advantage desk: lights were off, no signs present advising on how to proceed...had to call Advantage customer service. Customer service states that the desk should be open until 2359, even though no one was there. Numerous customers were standing behind me waiting for Advantage to show...after another 30 minutes, we all stepped outside to take any shuttle that had advantage on it.

I rented a car on July 4th for 5 days through an online reservation and got the car for $113.28

I was given the keys to the car at the airport and told the location of the car, when I got in the car I noticed the car was dusty as if it had not been cleaned and was fairly worn on the inside but assumed for under $20 per day and over 30,000k miles on the car I guess it s still a good deal.

When I returned the car on July 9th I was greeted by someone who took the keys and ensured there was no damage to the car.

Fast forward a few days later and I receive a bill on my credit card for an additional $261.20 I called Advantage Rent a Car and was told it was for cleaning.

Keep in mind the car I received was NOT cleaned prior, I did nothing but drive the car from the airport for a family gathering and a BBQ where the car was used to haul me and my airport approved luggage.

Take photos of the car before and after for proof on your credit card company. Or better yet. GO WITH A REPUTABLE COMPANY.

Terrible Customer Service. What you remember most from any service you receive is how well you're treated from beginning to end. Shuttle at the airport took over 30 minutes to arrive. Shuttles from other rental car companies came and went at least 4 times before the Advantage/EZ Car Rental Shuttle arrived. Shuttle itself was in terrible condition inside and out. Several windows had broken hinges and were rattling so much, i thpught they were going to fall of the shuttle. Hardware in the shuttle was held together with electrical tape to minimize the rattle. Upon arrival at the counter took about 30 minutes to get to the rental counter (2 customers ahead of me and two reps at the counter). Had the great opportunity to meet Eric. Terrible, just terrible customer service. They didn't have a car in the class I rented, offered me a car on a different class and said that I could come back tomorrow if I didn't like it. Charged me for the different class and I've been trying to call them to switch out the car for the past two days; greeted with a persistent busy signal. Who's in-charge there? Called Advantage corporate line and their customer service was comparable. Pay a few extra bucks and go somewhere else. Natonal has always been awesome!

I have a great experience every time I rent from this location. My last rental last month at the San Antonio Airport from the pick up to the return process was easy and the lady at the counter (I think her name is Christine) and John when I returned were both very pleasant and they demonstrated great customer service skills! That's why I like renting from Advantage once a month when I fly in to visit my dad! Keep up the great service. As a former Flight Attendant I critique customer service very hard and your employees always pass my test!

Customers are clearly annoyed, but the Advantage employees appear to be on some power trip, taking their good ole' time to help people. Have always had good experiences with Advantage previously. Car was fine and service at the counter was good too. However, I was unaware of this regulation at the time, but prepaid fuel IS NOT authorized for rentals when you're on military orders. Long story short, I'm eating $55 out of my pocket for using 3 gallons of gas. Tried calling customer service to change charges from pre-paid to whatever the steep price is for refueling a non-full tank upon return (at least that would be authorized for reimbursement), but they wouldn't do it.

EDIT: After more communication, everything was worked out. The customer service on the phone wasn't helpful, but the agent at the counter was the one who straightened things out.

Low price means fewer shuttle buses and less staff at the counter. Expect to wait an extra 10 min before hopping into that Maserati, er Chevy Cruze, and driving off into the Texas sun. Not the best cared for cars, either. My two car options had dents and one really messed up hub cap. The staff just shrugged.

I was in a hurry because of a delayed flight arriving at SAT. The person at the terminal was OKish. Getting to the lot which is the furthest from the stairs, the guy at the booth was acting as if I interrupted him from watching a game or somthing similar. Was not clear on what car I was getting, pointed me to the wrong one, made me loose time checking the wrong car. The guy saw me doing it but did nothing, did not move out from his booth. When I checked the correct car, it was full of undocumented scratches and dings all around. I documented it in my copy but the guy wanted me to fill out a new one with both copies. Terrible attitude. JC who cleans the cars I think, came to the rescue and copied the info to their copy and checked the car himself. I will think more than twice to get another car from this company.

STAY AWAY! They did not honor the original price that I reserved the car at (on Expedia). It wasn't a big difference in cost, so I decided to just pay it. Then almost a month later I received two additional charges on my credit card (one for $32 and another for $3). I find out that these were to cover tolls (+$25 admin fee!!) that I thought were included because there was a TollTag in the car. The rep didn't mention anything about tolls when the car was picked up. I spoke with two representatives about getting the $25 admin fee credited and they just talked in circles and were not empathetic to my situation at all.

I understand that I could have read the fine print, but you would think the rep would go over the toll options upon pickup. Nope, they're just out to nickel and dime you at every opportunity. Very misleading. I will never give this company any more of my business, which seems silly given that all they had to do was credit a $25 fee to keep me as a loyal customer.

I made a reservation to pick up a mid-size car on a Sunday at 3:00 PM about three weeks before my flight. Advantage and Payless were both about $150 total for a rental from Sunday through Friday while all the other major brands were over $250. I read multiple negative reviews for both but figured that rude service and pushing hard to buy the optional collision damage waiver would be a small price to save $100. Shortly after reserving my flight, hotel, and rental car I realized I would have to move my flight back a few hours to arrive around 5:00 PM. I called the Advantage office twice and was reassured both times (by the same employee) that arriving a couple of hours late was fine as long as I picked up the car before the end of the day.

The first sign of trouble was while waiting for the Advantage shuttle van at the San Antonio Airport I saw shuttles from every other rental car company pass by two or three times. Finally after about 20 minutes the Advantage shuttle came and took me to the facility. I arrived at the facility around 6:00 PM and there were two employees at the desk plus the manager in the back. An old woman in front of me was waiting several minutes without being helped and when she asked the older employee if he was having computer problems (he was visibly frustrated and kept walking back to the manager s office) he literally just started laughing and didn t answer her. When she asked for the manager he finally said that he was having trouble logging in to the system and the manager stepped in at another computer to help her.

The younger employee helped me and after a couple of minutes said that he couldn t find my reservation. According to him it had been cancelled. I told him that I hadn t cancelled it and he informed me that they had cancelled it when I didn t pick it up within an hour of my reservation time due to heavy demand. Then he said that I would now have to pay the prevailing rate which was about $260. I told him that I had a reservation and I expected it to be honored. The older employee came over and basically told me to take it or leave it. Nothing in all the fine print of my reservation mentioned they could arbitrarily cancel my reservation and try to charge me more. When I asked the older employee where in my contract it stated this he handed me a rental contract and of course the only mention of cancellation was if you didn t pick up the vehicle the same day they would charge you for at least one day of the rental.

At this point I asked to speak to the manager only to find out that she was outside checking out vehicles. I started looking on my phone at what was available at Avis, Enterprise, etc. figuring that if I had to pay $100 more I certainly wasn t going to pay it to Advantage. After waiting for 20 minutes for the manager the younger employee finally came over and asked for my driver s license and credit card. He went ahead and honored my reservation with the same type of vehicle at the same price.

While I was ultimately satisfied I could have just as easily given up as many others would do and paid another $100. This type of bait and switch tactic is deplorable and the fact that my original reservation was finally honored revealed that the story about cancelling reservations due to high demand and being late was simply a tactic to try and get me to pay more than I had originally agreed to. I would give 1.5 stars if that was possible since I did get what I asked for. However, the sheer hassle that I went through compared to my experience at (almost) every other rental car company made that $100 savings hard earned.

Great experience. After booking with Alamo weeks in advance, a call the day before and confirmed my luxury convertible brand. I arrived to an hour and a half of "looking for my car" then after they could not find it and fighting them to get me the, or a convertible they talked me into a Jeep Wrangler. 20 mins later they told me they had none... I went to national and they wanted double the price and then advantage and they were higher but she knew I was having issues with the other company so she discounted the cost without even asking. Yea it was not a luxury convertible but I will contact them next time to book my vehicles.

The WORST experience ever I reserved a car specifically asked the employee what I needed to take in repeated everything back to him & when I get there they tell me I need a major credit card. The old lady that works in the office right in front of the counter said well yeah sorry but there's nothing we can do unless you have that major credit card. First off maybe you should educate your employees on your policies before having them give wrong & False information over the phone. Then I said thanks for wasting my time & the old hag has the nerve to say oh your very welcome I don't know who decided she was fit to run there company as I've rented from them before & NEVER needed a major credit card but I will never rent from there agaim & I did let all my friends & family know not to rent from there anymore. They are unprofessional & her employees have no idea what they are doing. Worse car rental place EVER.

I am extremely disappointed we were in line when we picked up the car, the salesperson was pressuring seniors in front of us. When it came to our turn the same thing was happening they demanded all our information before providing us information we asked to upgrade and were told the total of our rental would be an additional $20 to upgrade. The upgraded car was in such rough condition the lot guy circled the whole car for all the damages, upon returning the car we received an emailed invoice showing they charged us twenty a day adding additional $120 to the rental when I called and questioned they offered zero customer service they cannot reverse charges on settled accounts nothing they can do not even offering a discount on future rentals. Shame on them for offering no service or integrity in the service industry. Buyer beware!!!

I rented a Hyundai via Travelocity from EZ rent-a-car which is colocated with AAdvantage in San Antonio. Picked up the AAdvantage Shuttle outside of baggage claim at SAT. The rental office is off-site, a few minutes away from the terminals. The counter agent went through the upsell process but had no problem when I said "no thanks". Staff in the office were friendly. Process was quicker than most -- including getting out of the lot. Return process was quick and uneventful -- staff was friendly this time too. Shuttle back to the terminal was fine.

I rent cars pretty often and will say for the price I have no complaints. They picked my up from airport and dropped me back at end of rental, car was clean and ready when I got there, I wasn't hit with any hidden fees, so overall I would rent from again.

Disappointed. San Antonio. They rushed the reservation process and use an e-sign pad on card machine for initials and to read the disclaimer (almost impossible), but then print it out after you sign. If you're not careful they will automatically charge you the roadside and collision charges. I stated I wanted to waive those charges but they charged me anyway and "slipped " it in.
Those charges alone were more than the rest of the rental. PLUS they also charged a 200 dollar deposit. If I have all the coverage, why the deposit too? 3 card Monty at the desk. Buyer be wary.

I'm in the Military and notified my 100+ unit members to avoid renting in San Antonio. You got my money, but this might cost a lot more in the future.

Shuttle from airport took longer than most, but not outrageous. Got a very reasonable upgrade when I discovered I'd need a bigger trunk. I hand wrote the amount on my reservation. When I returned the car, the bill was $40 more. When I showed the manager my hand written amount he immediately said he would make it right, which he did in a couple minutes. I don't know if I would have found the location to return the car if I hadn't put it in my GPS, but I would certainly use them again.

Pay very close attention because they tried to sell me a full tank of gas even though they knew I was only driving from San Antonio to Austin.

I purchased insurance when making the reservation through a third party but they tried to sell me their own anyway, which I don't mind except for their sales tactic was to suggest that what I purchased wasn't good enough in spite of having no idea what I had. A more professional approach would be to research what third party reservation agencies are selling their clientele before making generalized comments about something they know nothing about.

They provided incomplete information about vehicle drop off which caused us to drop our vehicle off unnecessarily early.

No one was at the drop off pavilion and there was no sign indicating where they were or when they would return. A different rental agency had to tell me where to find their other pavillion.

This was the only rental agency in San Antonio that had the car we wanted. Now I see why. Disadvantage car rental should be your last resort.

Shuttle was very slow and other rental providers came and left twice before advantage finally showed up. The counter gave two people ahead of me cars that didn't exist so i kept getting interrupted when trying to get my car with people coming back for an actual car vs empty parking space. Then the car was inferior to other rentals and was also very dirty. The Interior smelled like a hobo slept in it but i didn't reject as i was tired of waiting.

Good and convenient company in every regard except for money. It's your money and their booking agent will help you spend it. Make sure you double check every number of that invoice and have them explain the charges. Our $150 booking with an upgrade (a special price, just for us, a very god deal!) plus $100 late fee turned into $500+ final invoice. The extra $200 we were charged for a deposit were not listed on our paperwork and would not be refunded. When asked to explain the charges, we were told it would be different if we returned our car on time bc now the math won't work (!) Make sure you review every line of that invoice before you sign.

So I booked thru Kayak/Priceline--all was great. I paid $167 for 2 days and a couple hours for my rental. Once I got to Advantage at the airport they offered me a free upgrade--great! I accepted. I also accepted $9/day insurance. An extra $27 no biggie, right? Turns out I got charged an extra $355! Excuse me?! For what? I'm not sure. I tried calling twice and hung up after 15 mins of being on hold. I then called a 3rd time and got to customer service after 15 mins. Too bad i could hardly understand their customer service rep. Oh, and she couldn't help either. She submitted a "ticket" for me and said someone will call me to discuss my situation within 24 hours. It has now almost been 72 hours... still haven't heard from someone. Oh and did i mention that I'm trying to call them AGAIN as I write this review? Yeah, I've been on hold for 41 minutes (so far) and I have yet to speak with a human.

I was charged more than what was agreed upon on a signed contract. I turned in the car at the exact time I was supposed to but my receipt said the car was turned in almost 45 minutes later. Besides that fee there was more money charged for reasons the employee could not explain. There was no manager available and since it s saturday I have to wait until Monday to call the company and hopefully resolve this issue. I ve never been one to write bad reviews but this company really hit a nerve. The employee at the front was very unhelpful and his excuse was that he didn t want to lose his job because he has a family to support. He was unable to provide me a copy of a contract that I signed for my own reference.

My interaction with Advantage at San Antonio was one of the best auto rental experiences. Courtney at the service desk and Troy at the vehicle pick up we re both very friendly, courteous and gregarious. The vehicle I received exceeded expectations. Overall, very positive service and I ll be a returning customer.
