Service was OK, but excessively expensive.

When I called to cancel, I received excessive sales pitches and unnecessary questions in attempting to cancel, even after making it clear I had no interest in remaining and did not see the need to go through such attempts and questions. When I was told it would take 30 days to cancel, and therefore I would have to pay for another month's service even though the terms of the contract is over I complained that that was unethical. The rep told me it was "good for me" at which point I asked to speak to a supervisor (how is it good for me to pay for another month of service for something I've requested to cancel, no longer need, and for which I've fulfilled the term of the contract?). I ended up having to ask for a supervisor something like 8-12 times before I was finally given to one. I was also placed on hold / left silent numerous without notice.

Not only are their cancellation policies poor business practice and unethical, their support team did a poor job, at least for this request.

Very frustrated with the smart home package. After paying >$1,000 for the package the cameras have never worked, the garage door is in perpetual alarm and the poor support staff are not empowered to address the problems. Instead they are forced to inform us that, to have someone come out to fix the problem we have to charge $190+ time and materials . To date the ve been out 3 times and the package still does not work. We purchased this through Best Buy who no longer supports the relationship with Vivint for the above mentioned issues. We ll need to right off the investment in this product and go buy Ring. UPDATE: Good news, after reading this review, Vivint social media team put had their customer loyalty guys contact us and address our issues. Thank you. Power of social media...

Very pushy salesman. I opened the door and not even 5min later they were inside my doorstep!! Less than 2min later they were walking up my stairs wanting to look at my "windows" and before i knew it they were sitting on my couch showing me videos. I specifically said i was not the owner of the home and they still proceeded to tell me about the alarm system. I ended up agreeing to the free trial just so they would leave! And now I'm sitting here on the phone trying to cancel service & I've been on hold for 30min!! Ridiculous, do not open the door for these people!

We have only had instances of alarms being triggered because of opening door without turning alarm off. The response was quick and friendly. Once used to the system, we have had no problems and do feel very secure whether home set at stay or away.

The Tech that spoke with me was very knowledgeable and courteous. She promptly and accurately answered my questions and knew exactly what to do to properly address my problem. She resolved the problem in just a matter of minutes to my total satisfaction. Couldn't be happier.

I've had the security system for two months now an...

I've had the security system for two months now and have been very satisfied with it. I love the doorbell ring on my phone and the ability to speak with the visitor over my phone. It's a great feature. The only negative I have is the back yard camera. It does not record when someone is out back (like the gardener), but it records when a moth flies by. Sporadic recordings. I have not called to ask for a technician yet. Other than that, I'm a very satisfied customer.

I agree with many of the reviewers who gave Vivint...

I agree with many of the reviewers who gave Vivint one star. However, during the past five years they have responded to the MANY calls my husband and I have made complaining about the myriad of technical problems we've experienced. I have one more year on my extended 2-year contract and I will not be renewing it again. The only reason I renewed this time was they agreed to do a full system check (which is the first time one has been done in five years) and install a simple battery operated wireless panel upstairs which would allow us to disarm the system when the Vivint app on our smartphones fail - something which has happened numerous times (and we DO HAVE VERIZON). The only problem was, after the tech who installed it left, we discovered the panel cannot be used to "arm away" (we do that when we go upstairs at night for bed). It can only be armed "stay" which means the motion detectors downstairs are useless....anyone can break into a window and be undetected. So here's hoping our smartphones and fob will continue to "arm away" because that button on the panel marked "arm away" is non-functional.

The system works well. Had problems with billing, thought it was rectified, but nothing seems to be working. One wouldn't think it would be that big of a problem to receive a paper invoice through USPS. Vivint suggests that it's the postal service's fault. We'll see what transpires in the future.

My family's internet provider, it's so bad that I have to change connections on my desktop every so often, and my 3DS doesn't connect anymore. We also have to reset the router ALL THE TIME because the iOS products in our house don't connect when they get disconnected.

After I shared my experiences on Twitter and Facebook, Vivint BLOCKED me! How's that for caring about your customers concerns? Wow! Sure seems inline with their "CEO Promise"!

Unreal! I just had a technician at my house for over THREE HOURS! My doorbell camera has had an issue since DAY ONE with recording clips from motion detection and also from when the doorbell is pressed. (Isn t that it s prime responsibility?) I ve had a tech at my home 3 times in less than two months trying to resolve this issue. Today, they offered me a space monkey which would allow my cameras to record 24/7. I guess they re normally $250 and they wanted me to pay $100. I told them no, but I did offer to split it and pay $50. That wasn t good enough. They refused to accept the $50 for the device. I, personally, don t think I should have to pay any more money for this system. It isn t working as advertised, it s not my responsibility to pay more to get it to function the way I d like it to, when it was advertised to work like I wanted it to in the first place. (False advertising?) They did offer to remove the cameras and refund me for them. I thought this was a rather unacceptable answer. If I didn t feel that the cameras were necessary, I wouldn t have had them installed in the first place. Talk about standing behind your product! So, now, here I sit, with a doorbell camera that doesn t perform. Literally, all it does is ding when it s pressed. Sometimes, you can view the live video. I m just shocked that Vivint would be willing to let the technician leave without resolving the issue in the slightest. I can t help but feel Vivint really doesn t care that their equipment doesn t work properly or about their customers. They think that because they have you in a contract, they are totally safe and they ll still get their money. Well, they sure don t seem to holding up their end of the contract. I sure do wonder what the Better Business Bureau would think about that. Better yet, I wonder what my attorney would think about that... One things for sure, I m starting to shop for a new smart home package. SAD!

While we had home security service with Vivint they were fine, but the customer service was terrible when we had to cancel. They lost our cancelation documents multiple times, were extremely rude on the phone, would never follow up with us, and kept charging us months after we moved out. It took us months to get our money back with literally hours of lost time on the phone with them. The only reason we got our money back was because we disputed the charges on our credit card and made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. They are terrible! Do yourself a favor and stay away.

I got a terrible experience with one of the vivint sales guys. He came in to our home without us inviting him. He wanted to check the backdoor but I knew it was a technique trying to get inside so we felt more pressure to buy their service. Terrible experience! We waste like an hour of our time. They should train their sales person better and make sure families don't feel that way.

I absolutely love Vivint. Their customer service has always been great and they are quick to help and service is done on a timely matter. I've accidentally set off the alarm several times and everytime they come over the speaker some thing about that gives me peace of mind. Anytime we've wanted to upgrade they have given us deals. Highly recommend.

Vivint is part of my fire insurance and assures me that the carbon monoxide detector is functioning at all times. I have a library very valuable to me. Should a fire start when no one is home, the library is lost through damage even if some of the house is saved. When the smoke alarm goes off, Vivint calls to ensure everything all is safe. It has happened more than once. When the battery goes dead in the carbon monoxide detector, Vivint is there until it is replaced. My home is under reliable surveillance with Vivint. My home is the most important possession I have. I happened into Vivint through a promotion. Now I would never be without it.

We love our Vivint. The only problem we have had is the batteries running low and then telling us they'll send new ones and a year later we have yet to receive new batteries for our sensors. The other problem we've had is the phone app saying our back door was open and the window open when we are out of town. We have the police come by and check and everything was closed and locked.

Look at reviews from everywhere else in the country. One of their Reps Murdered a homeowner in San Antonio Texas!!! Utah is the only place you'll find positive reviews. It's really sad how they turn Returned Missionaries into SCAMMERS IN ORANGE!!!!! But I hear they do have a very nice Cafeteria lol.

We have had nothing but good experience with VIVIN...

We have had nothing but good experience with VIVINT service. We had an upgrade in July, 2015 and received a programmable thermostat and a front door lock that can be controlled remotely. The new control panel can also be controlled remotely. We have had no issues except those that we caused ourselves. Responses from VIVINT have immediate with very friendly and understanding reps.

We are extremely pleased with all aspects of our service.

They have talked us through issues that we could remedy ourselves and always promptly send a technician (ours is John, and we feel like he's a friend) when we need service. They also worked with me on price when it was time to renew.

I was prospecting about 4 hours west of my house in the Colorado Rockies. I went to the store to call my wife, her phone was turned down, so I checked our Vivint camera. It didn't show her entry or exit for a 3 hour period, so at 930 pm I drove home to make sure my wife was safe. Vivint does not give me peace of mind. This has happened several times since I have been with Vivint.
This company locks you in under a contract for 3 year, they charge for service calls. If you move they ask you to leave your equipment there so you end up buying new equipment and get locked into more payments. Though I am out of my contract they still send emails saying I have a contract. Very crooked company. Next to criminal if you ask me.
Vivint is a joke of a security company.

Usually I'm real satisfied with Vivint but the other early morning storm we had the alarm kept going off telling use we had a tornado warning. I was woke up and went out to shut the alarm off. I had a awful time finding where to shut it off. Finally got it off and went back to bed. Just got to sleep and it went off again. Again I had (should be easy) an awful time shutting it down.This happened three times and the last time my wife was woke up also. It should be easier and it shouldn't keep going off for the same thing over and over!

Vivint always provides prompt response during our time of need not only during when there are unavoidable false triggers on our alarm system, but on occasions when we request information about our system and when work service to install a new gadget is completed. Vivint is always willing to provide help and assistance making us feel secure and concern about our safety. It's a reflection of an excellent quality service! I ve seen sales reps take complete advantage of people... in fact, the reps are TAUGHT to lie to the customer in order to get the sale. The equipment is overpriced, they lock you in a long term contract & lie about it, their customer service is HORRENDOUS, all the promises they make to you are lies. They treat both their customers and their employees with no respect. Greedy, sketchy, dishonest, & scum of the earth company.

I have had a VIVINT security system for many years...

I have had a VIVINT security system for many years and enjoy the basic security portion of their service. However, when I upgraded and added security cameras this year - they are absolutely not reliable. They go offline without reason and seem to have no rhyme or reason as to what they record/store. Two service calls have not been successful in fixing the issues - but I am still charged for them. The billing for the upgrade has turned out not in accordance with what I thought was agreed to ... raising my monthly rate rather than paying a lump sum.

We have been a customer for 2 years for our buisness . For home service they are probably great. for buisness I dont recomend them , I am on hold for a half hour and then get transfered on and get put on hold again. I have been calling for the past week i have done there chat options 4 times and all i get is call so i call and go through what i stated before.. When I did finaly get to talk to some one I get an account manger that did not listen. all he wanted to do is upsale me and want me to make another commitment . I cant get help. im on the phone again as i am writing this and so far its been 12.minutes and counting. I would take my buisness else where but we have invested so much already. I miss my old rep that took care of me yeah i finally got someone 14 minuts a new record

I've rated Vivint so high because I had an issue with the system, but it turned out to be a minor one. They sent a technician to my house and he was able to determine what was happening. I also was away from the house and my tenant was cooking and she burned the pot. She said that the fire department showed up thanks to the Vivint system!! Thanks to all the staff at Vivint!!

Terrible company. Avoid at all costs.
Since 2015 Georgia, Utah, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wyoming, and Missouri have all won legal actions against Vivint on behalf of customers.

Here's our experience:
A pushy manipulative salesman lied and strong armed us into a wildly overpriced contract. Told us the "state of the art" (re-branded outdated equipment) alarm system wouldn't go off on our pets. 3 months later the alarm system was going off every time the cats went down the stairs. We had a tech come out who straight told us that there was no way he could adjust the alarm to ignore the cats and that the salesman shouldn't have promised that it would.
A year later our HVAC system burned up. Vivint admitted the tech installed the thermostat wrong and the system was running without coil heat (which burned up the heat pump). We called Vivint's claims bureau and they said that since it was installed over a year ago they're not liable for damages. This Vivint alarm system has cost us over $5,000 dollars and we can't even turn it on.
Their contract is also very exploitative. Our only way out of the 5 year contract is to pay off the contract in full (pay them for 3.5 years of monitoring that they won't do) or sucker someone else into picking up a 5 year contract on our behalf.
We've filed complaints with the Maryland Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau and will be filing our own claim in court. Even if we can't get out of the contract we look forward to warning others

We've had Vivint for several years and are completely satisfied. All works as advertised, installation was fast and professional and we've had zero problems. Given the need, I would certainly use them again, and I would recommend them to anyone in the market.

NEGITIVE STARS!!! I am SO disappointed & Irritated with this company!! I have now been on the phone 26 minutes and have spoken to 5 people!!! I had to cancel my service because we got layed off. This was in February, I called spoke to someone they said they would cancel my service. I received an email that day saying that my service would be cancelled. It is now April & they pulled another payment. I called in again & explained it all over again. Gentleman said he would refund my account & cancel my service. It was been one week & no refund. I called in today & have spoken to 5 people & explained 5 times. They say they are either not in the right department or they can't refund my money because my account is closed. I can reinstate my account to get refund. Umm NO! This should have been taken care of in February. I want my money!

I would have gave a 5 star but when I signed up for vivint years ago I was not told we had to register the alarm with the police department, and have to pay a 10.00 registration fee. It's not a big deal but I would have liked to know about it when I signed up.

My service has been excellent! I feel secure when sleeping or gone as my security system is dependable. The staff is very helpful when I need help or when I accidentally trigger an alarm. They are prompt and thorough in checking the problem or alarm. Good job Vivint!

39 month contract ended then put it on a 6 month deferment at end of 6 month cancelled twice bills still coming I had a 39 month contract with Vivint at the end of my 39 months I wanted to cancel but they talked me in to putting it on hold because if you cancel you can't get it hooked back up. They put me on a 6 month deferment at the end of the 6 months I asked to cancel they said yes and started the process. I sent in my check and a written note stating all the info they told me to put to the address they told me to send it to. I did everything they asked then a month later I got another bill. I called in now they're saying that the computer enrolled me into a 12 month agreement even though I am month-to-month since my contract ended. I am completely appalled and disgusted with this company. the 39 months I was with them there was always something going wrong. Vivint use to be APEX both had horrible issues. I wish I would have known that they were not accredited with the BBB because I am not the only one who has to jump through hoops and do back flips just to cancel. They only do this because like many others they think that we will just pay the bill. I hope a company like this shuts down and it's very sad because their employees are very nice. I will be copying this and posting it on YELP, GOOGLE, and what ever website I can warning people against Vivint because of their horrible business practices.

The system is good, but do not expect them to work...

The system is good, but do not expect them to work with you on service calls. They do not do anything after 5 pm and no weekends, so you have to take time off of work to meet a technician at your house. Also the technician showed up and told me the glass break detector that was installed was not covering the area they said it did. When asked if he would install another one to cover the area, I was told it would be $120 to get another one. So the person that installed the system did not tell me the truth on the coverage.

I just recently had the " Sky " added to my home. A couple of things that I've found that I am not happy with . First there's a lag when you go to disengage the system. Yes I know its satellite based, but my last one from them was not. Secondly the new box flops around on my wall. It needs to be " secured " in order to feel like it's actually worth the money. The third thing is the new thermostat which was installed at the same time is not recognized by my shy system, hence it doesn't work with it.

Now these are all things that I am sure can be adjusted / corrected as needed. I have a second tech appointment for Tuesday, let's hope that it is taken care of !!!!

The salesperson from Vivint told us that they could do a takeover of our existing equipment in our house. He offered some extra equipment we did not have like an outdoor camera, hard drive for the videos and smoke detector. He told us if we do not like the service after the 3-day trial that we could cancel at any time, we would just keep paying off the equipment. Well a week after the technicians installed the security system the panel failed. 3 times total in a month where it could not detect the sensors in the house. After every failure it would take a week for the technician to come to the house. That means 3 weeks of an unprotected house. Finally got fed up and tried to cancel service. But the rep told us we must pay the full amount off in full and not in installments which was over a $1500. Plus, the equipment is rigged up where other security companies cannot take it over. So, we are stuck with expensive used decorations. A month later they still billed me! After jumping through hoops to cancel. Be sure to go with a company with at least a month trial period.

We are a fairly new Vivint customer (about 6 months). We have loved using the monitoring system. We have the doorbell camera which is great for knowing who is at the front door when they ring your door bell. The equipment installation went very smoothly and they explained how to use everything we were getting. I would recommend Vivint to our family and friends.

Vivint did a system move for me and my family. After the "professional" said he was done I asked about my door locks. He said he didn't have them and I would have to have a return visit to have them installed. Well after calling for 1 week Vivint decided to disconnect my service and allow me out of my contract. But now they want me to pay a monthly fee since I didn't send them a notice of cancellation. I was never told I had to do so. This company is a joke and has horrible customer service at there corporate level.
