-1/10! Horrible company, I ve been trying to open an account for weeks! Customer service calls are 2.5hrs wait & then they just give you the runaround telling you to wait 2-4 more business days! Same with the chat, always 1000+ wait list (also 2-3hrs wait) and then same runaround 2-4 days...what a horrible company! STAY AWAY!!!

Worst website out of any other big trading platform that i've ever seen. This is what they have to offer to us Canadians? Pathetic.
It's just a flashy website with nice visuals but with no concrete information. I tried everywhere on the website to find the most basic of information about the specific account types and I couldn't. You want to know more? Well you better sign up blindly then. Seriously...
Horrible misleading/deceiving website that discloses no numbers. I had to go on live chat to find out and that took me so long, and the person on the live chat was so incompetent. Who the hell is working there?

First I got transferred into the wrong department (live chat) had to wait to get transferred into the right one. Then the person didn't know what I was asking and was using broken english. Took them 20 minutes to finally understand. Guess what, had to transfer me to another department lol.

I went through so much hassle just trying to find the basic information like margin requirements, leverage, deposit information etc.

There is NO way i'm signing up with this company. It doesn't take much effort to fix these small issues.

The fact they haven't just raises red flags for me and proves that they don't care about customers, they just care about getting the money from the customers.

Very sluggish for a business that runs by the second in real world trading, can't even login at times, orders way too slow that makes you miss opportunities and even mistakes on accounts.. Need a lot of improvements!
Phone calls take forever to get someone to answer your call..
Not up to the job at all!

I have been with Questrade since 2015 and had an overall pleasant experience with opening accounts to answering general questions. They won't give you much advice & can't answer much specific questions like tax related questions, investments etc..so you need to do your own research on your own online or talk to an expert outside of Questrade. They are mostly good for basic service and good for self served/manage type of investors so if you are not that investment savvy, better you go to a bank and have an Advisor. I like Questrade because of low fees and free to buy ETFs. I mostly have ETFs and blue chip stocks with them so my trading & investment is more passive & simple. If you like fancy sophisticated investment & trading platform, better go with a big banks & pay higher fees like TD Waterhouse, Scotia ITrade etc..

I am currently trying their QuestWealth where it is robo-advising where they invest in ETFs for you & charge 0.25% fee on top of whatever the MER of the ETF charges you. They basically construct a portfolio based on what you answer in their questionnaires. The agents on the phone just have basic knowledge, won't give you much advice or feedback about the investments that QuestWealth chooses and even gave me wrong information about RESP. So I don't trust fully whatever they tell me, better to do your own research & double check whatever they tell you. Better you do your own homework or hire a very good Financial Advisor (CFP) outside especially if you have advanced/sophisticated questions.

Good luck getting your withdrawals in a timely manner. I've been trying to make an RESP withdrawal for my child, and no one knows what form is needed (she has no EAP contributions with this account). After 2 weeks of resubmitting forms, void cheques, re-requesting the withdrawal, it might go through. I say might, because I keep getting notices from them of a problem. But when I call/chat, they claim there is no problem.... It's like their email support don't talk with their 'live' agents or vice versa. Use someone else for RESP's.

Reputable for their deceptive margin practices of extorting more capital as last minute requirement for your margin account. They blame it on the risk factor but a broker with a thin capital cushion can crumble at any minute, right? This is why, we've moved our account to a traditional broker with adequate capital buffers. When something looks shady, it normally is very shady.

Absolutely the worst platform I have ever encountered. I added money to my account over a month ago and it is still pending for approval. I have contacted support NINE times and they keep passing me back and forth between different agents to figure it out until I get dropped out with no progress.

I have been told at least four times that my money would be reflected in 2-3 days which it never does. I understand its busy times, but having to wait 3-4 hours to get support for over a month, this is ridiculous.

I am still fighting to get my money back. If you are looking for a platform in Canada, use WealthSimple instead. Took my 3 days to get up and going there.

Questrade is an amateur platform with utter rubbish technical support. If you are serious about timely investing, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Thought I'd leave a positive review after seeing so many negative ones. My experience with QT has so far only been positive. Their trading web app and android app is very responsive and intuitive. Everytime I've called support, I've been on hold maybe 5 mins (compared to 2 hours with TD). My only gripe with them is their security is a little behind. Luckily I'm young and don't have too much vested so for a couple of years this isn't a concern. I will update my review to 5/5 once QT implements 2-factor authorization (which they are apparently working on). I will also update my review soon as I have a negative experience.

Add: for everyone complaining about "hidden fees". They are not hidden. They are listed on their website. I took them and tossed them into my spreadsheet and they have been accurate. They also show you EXACTLY how much the trade commission is before you place an order. So stop being so lazy and take the time to read. I feel it's a very vocal minority of naive, and maybe even just plain dumb, people who are rating them poorly. Again I'll update my review upon any negative experience and keep this initial review here so you can see that it's entirely honest.

Update: 2fa auth has been added. Another promise has been bracket orders on their phone app (right now I can only do them on the desktop client). I will keep 4/5 until the phone app is a bit trader-friendly.

I attempted to open an account with them. Before I fund my account I asked them if everything is approved. I was told that your account has been approved, you can fund your account and start to trade. After that, I sent 1000$ to my account. I got message that said the fund is pending. I contacted them they said that we have issue with your document and they ask for additional documents. I uploaded all documents as I was asked for. This process took over two months. I couldn't activate my account and I asked my money back. They send it by wire transfer because of that the bank charged me 17,5$ and I recieved 982.5$ . At the end I couldn't get an account, I couldn't get my all money back, I wasted my 3 months. Also you have to wait on the line at least for half an hour and you have to explain the issue every single time. Very poor service!

Been using questrade for 4 yrs now. They have redesigned the trading platform and it's quite slick. Fees are reasonable with no hidden costs. They are upfront on everything...that includes ECN fees. The few times I've had to speak with CS were bearable. It's true some reps just try to shake you off or piss in your ear. Don't call in clueless.

Ultimately going down this route requires a degree of competency and independence; read carefully and do your diligence. Go to the big 5 if you want hand-holding.

Looking ahead, they need to improve the mobile app greatly and introduce 2-factor authentication.

Discount brokerage sounded like a good idea at first. I was not able to open my account due to some technical issues initially. I had my account opened only after a week of talking to various service representatives over the phone. 3.5 yeas later, I realize that the account is not a TFSA as I requested. Getting myself prepared for a headache and potential losses with the CRA. Would have been a much better option to go with a normal brokerage. Extra fees wouldn't nearly cost me as much time, stress, and money. The mobile app is glitchy, constantly logs you out and never allows to log in with Face/Touch ID. It is a bummer when you are trying to make a quick transaction.

Extremely underqualified people working at this company. Support totally sucks, which is surpising since they mainly deal with your registered accounts. You can expect to have funds held here for no reason because of the underqualified workers. Support absolutely sucks, you have to make 2-4 attempts to get the matter resolved.

Changing my 5 star review from last year....since January, Questrade has been nothing but positively awful. I literally had an account application in the works since early Jan. Last week, I finally had two hours to wait in the chatroom to ask someone to close it. That's just one of the many issues. Cashing out all of my investments and moving away from this platform. I can forgive a few weeks of backlogs at the beginning of COVID lockdown, but not 6 months of being consistently ignored by customer service and needing to allocate over 2 hours of my time to reach someone. Absolutely zero communication from the brokerage about other issues such as transfers. I only found out that my transfers were rejected from the issuing institution. Bye, Questrade!

I see a lot of poor comments here with people trying to setup accounts over the phone. Setting up an account by yourself online is very easy. I set mine up in 10-15 minutes and then received a confirmation email shortly after by someone named Jonatan who has been extremely helpful. I cannot complain, this service is great!

Horrible experience while trying to transfer out my funds. Funds were transferred but only partially. Called them multiple times about why this is a partial transfer but no one had a clue where the funds were, all I was told is they will have to follow up with transfer out team and will get back to me. But no one bothered except for when I called for fourth time on fourth day of the week, then the guy promised to call me back to give an update. Well, he came back with the update but not enough reasons to justify the delay and to add to that he mentioned they don't even have an ETA when the transfer will be complete. And then this person promised to call every Friday till the funds are transferred to provide me the update. Well, this was the first Friday and didn't got any call. Although, not to mention that even though funds are not yet transferred but they have levied the transfer out fees already. Feeling completely helpless as retail investor. Wish there was a option for less than 1 star.

Have been waiting over 1 month for my account to be activated. Was told everytime that itwould be just another day until they made me wait so long that I missed out on what I initially wanted to trade for. They also have had my funds frozen in the not activated account which I have no way of withdrawing. Calling customer service means waiting atleast 2hrs on hold (no lie that is a conservative estimate) to find out they cannot help. Questrade is a terrible platform and will use "current market condition" as an excuse for poor customer support, long wait times, funds being frozen indefinitely, and the 4 week and counting wait for account activation. Wealthsimple had me trading within 3 days. Pathetic.

Hidden fees and procedures here and there. Charges you an inactivity fee for not trading in a quarter. What if the market is down and my strategy is to keep cash on hand??? When I called in I was always on hold so I decided to close my account. Liquidated all my shares and realized that I cannot withdraw funds immediately. Apparently shares takes Questrade 3 days to settle then provide you are allowed to withdraw. Very bad experience.

To get into touch with them either through call or...

To get into touch with them either through call or chat is way too much time consuming and ends with technical problem. Opened a new account about 15 days back and it still saying in progress. I e-mailed them back asking how to upload documents since under "upload documents" it keep on saying "you do not have any accounts at this time". Called them with 2 hours of waiting time but the operator couldn't solve the problem so passed on to the person in charge of handling new accounts and again waited for half hour. Every time I call, it's always 2 hours of wait time and now they also discontinue the option of calling back. After 10 days got the e-mail back from them stating "We hope that your problem as been solved. If not go to our FAQ page or call or chat". Just assume that the problem is solved. Tried chatting, waiting number was 968, I waited and got my turn after 3 hours; while I was waiting for my turn, the number fluctuated so much, sometimes from 654 and it will drop 10 at a time (to 644) and sometimes from 538 it will go up to 543; I still waited for my turn and finally I got closer and a message pops-up saying "The connection has been lost". All these 3 hours of wait went into vein. I tried again and every time I get closer to my turn the same message pop-up saying "The connection has been lost" and these happed 3-4 times. This is not done!!

I'm reading several comment replies from Questrade on this review thread claiming they are sorry and that they want to resolve client problems with utmost expedience. I've been hearing these apologies now for over 3 months for $40,0000 that we need transferred from Questrade to our bank account. I called about 10 times over this period and each time they asserted it would just take 4-5 more business days and that they are "so sorry" and thank me for my patience. We still haven't received our money and they have asked for just 10 more business days. There are so many other trading platforms out there - Questrade has gotten big enough that they don't need to care.

I'm so glad I went with my gut and opened an account with Questrade!! I have had nothing but positive experiences. I've used the online help and phoned in. Both were long waits (because of COVID) but someone always answered and they were always polite and able to help. I unknowingly made mistake when opening the account and they were able to help with a credit.

It takes 1-2 days for new deposits to show up, which seems reasonable. The account was open and funded within 3 days!

I can't get pricing first thing in the morning, but I don't have a need to trade at that time so it doesn't affect me. Sometimes the website kicks me out, but it's easy to sign back in, and again. I don't have a need to do anything where an increase of a few cents would be critical so I'm okay with that.

The trade off is here is the low fees, which is WELL worth the minor inconveniences. I would 100% recommend Questrade over a major bank!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from these thieves, I lost all trust in their trading platform. Set a stoploss for 4.99 and was triggered way above at 5.25. customer service gave me a run around for a whole week loosing many profitable opportunities just to tell me it was a charting issue at their end and they couldn't compensate me for money lost but had the audacity to offer me 10 free trades that aren't even close to the hundreds iv lost. With the best of my ability I will warn as much people from doing business with these thieves

Extremely difficult to speak to anyone from customer service - takes on average up to an hr on the phone and on webchat there are always at least 80+ others in front of you.

The app for mobile and the online website are both not user friendly, and not designed well. They need to fix the app as it is awful!

Transfers of funds take forever - both from your online banking and transfer of other accounts go Questrade.

Overall not impressed with the summary of investments. Very challenging to see how to see your portfolio diversity. Would not recommend.

Attempted to withdraw my funds from Questrade after hearing about them bullying a Reddit user for leaving a bad comment about their company on Reddit. They rejected my withdrawal request after I provided an online deposit form. The reason is that they require a BANK STAMP. This requires me to go to the actual bank location and wait in the cold around others and potentially risking the health of myself and my family for a BANK STAMP. Ridiculous. They will find any excuse to withhold your withdrawals. Pay the additional commission fees for more reliable sources of trading that won t cause this hassle.

It's been three weeks since i submit my applications and i just cannot seem to get an account open. Poor support that has gotten worse over the years. Zero accountability for incorrect answers, and they'll never give a complete answer. They reject documentation without notice, ignore letters of direction prepared according to what they said their requirements were, and are completely unreachable. Extreme reluctance to add the government contribution to RESPs like they're supposed to. They were never what I'd call good; but, they're going downhill even from there.

The customer service went down to unacceptable levels. It takes number of days to process any request (before it was one or 2 days). The lines are always busy and waiting time is long. They don't process letters of direction like before. They just ignore them until you call and ask them to push it. This way they force even more people to call, which creates even bigger phone calls traffic... Very bad when such customer service associates with your investments.

I can't comment on the entire Questrade experience yet, as I am still in the process of opening and funding an account. I started the process about 3 weeks ago. I did everything online, thinking it would be efficient. I still don't have funded accounts yet. I have tried the online chat feature unsuccessfully about 3 or 4 times, each time never getting through to an agent, due to wait times that were literally hours, where I just had to disconnect because I needed to step away from my computer for a bit. Maybe the customer experience gets better once your accounts are activated, but be aware, opening an account and funding it may take....longer than you might hope.

They will open wall street for you. But can someon...

They will open wall street for you. But can someone explain me how, they can give you less money than you earn? Not once, not twice but 3 times in a year?!

You buy: #shares x price of share + commission.
You sell: price of share x #shares + commission.

Profit or loss=the difference between both

So simple, so many safe guards on software that beat a simple 2 bucks calculator and they still make mistakes.

The customer service do not even know why that is happening. They gave me several times 100 bucks credit on commission.

My opinion, they do it to everyone. Weirdly it always and only go their way. But they hope that people won't see it.

A bunch of lame crooks for sure. Good I'm keeping track on a very simple excel sheet.

Please double check every penny from your account with them. To me that was hundreds of dollars worth of mistakes on their end (almost a thousand in a year trading volumes below 10k total which represents an error of close to 10%!!!).

Ultimately I closed my account. It was so hard and so long to do so and get my money back lol !

Definitely crooks to avoid at all costs. They will rob you in the lamest way. Making maths mistakes that a grade 3 kid can handle and pray you won't find out.

------------------------------------------------
Dear Owner,

Thank you for your answer. However you are way too late, and NO. Your answer doesn't address the matter I experienced at all and is even a little insulting in my opinion.

I emailed you, called you, more than 10 times, discussed with your team.
We tried to figure it out, and they have actually no idea what is happening. They double checked and gave me 100 bucks credit to comfort me several times.
So, I either talked to your 10+ worst staff members over the course of a year, or you train your staff horribly and they all don't give you any feedback, or they genuinely do not know what is happening, and you don't even care, which sounds kind of what is happening here.

As per your volatility excuse, it doesn't stand at all. When trading, there is a receipt of the transaction that you produce for your customers as per regulations. But at the end of the day, the amount of money we receive doesn't reconcile with the receipts you give us. Trying to lose me here on some trivial jargon that only looks complicated here didn't work dear owner, and it is quite insulting as well. The mistake is on a very much more basic issue: "you NOT giving us the money you produced a receipt for".

As a financial institution, we put the money we worked hard to get and give it in your "non" capable hands. However, you just try to rob us. Or worse, you don't even know what is happening in your own company, with your own software and transaction algorithm.

There is definitely a gap in Canada in terms of trading platforms, and you didn't manage to lead it despite the very early advantage you had by being one of the 1st on the market like more than 10 years ago.

Now most banks are offering what you are offering, without making the trivial mistakes you are doing.
It is too bad that you are not better, or still here. The financials institutions should have closed you long ago, but I guess they are understaffed to review you correctly, which happens all the time in our country. To be honest with you, I am still wondering how you're still even in the business.

Looking at the length of my comment and the number of likes it received, I am pretty sure that this is not an isolated case, and you did it to people who noticed it, many times.

I like to think I am a loyal customer (vs returning business). I stayed with you through thick and thin until I completely lost trust and faith in you, and even today, I am trying to be helpful to you with my full of details feedback.

I know the challenges of owning a business, but I believe I gave you enough time and several chances to address it and nothing happened.
I really hesitated to answer your comment, but I hope it can help you.
Not too sure what will happen from here on, but I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Surprised to see so many negative reviews. My experience with Questrade has been just fine. Good service, email responses within 24hrs, phone line is not bad, you can choose a callback not to hang on the line, deposits to the account show up the next day (a day after in the worst case). To improve they need to expand the interac online system to more financial institutions for instant transfers or come up with something else for instant transfers. they do need to work on the 2 step authentication though, given the number of high profile hacks in the industry recently...
Overall, very satisfied.

Investor beware. i put in my TFSA money one year in a Questrade account. It ended up sitting in cash for 2 years, as I did not end of up having the time to invest myself. So i transferred out the money (which Questrade had done nothing with - so there was no real administration from them) and they charged me a $150+HST charge to take out my own money that they had done nothing with. I understand banks do charge to close off an account, but usually it is something much more reasonable like $50 . They literally took money from me. I complained, and they did absolutely nothing.

Horror movie experience when you see people manipulate you into depositing more money and give you 30 minutes to do so or they would liquidate your portfolio. I did not deposit more funds and as I refuse to take decision under pressure and went little too far and treated respectfully the representative that called me as I refuse to be spoken as if I owe something to someone. Next thing I see, at 3.55 PM, they have liquidated my ENTIRE PORTFOLIO while the value of the margin call was only 10% of the value of my portfolio. They made me lose close to 20k on that move and made themselves en extra 100$ in trade fees. My nightmare was just beginning. I opened an account with another institutional and requested a transfer. My transfer was not done because apparently they called me to confirm and I didn't pick up the phone. I did have a missed call and no one left me a message and I didn't bother checking who called since there was no voice mail. Eventually my transfer did finally take place and instead of normal 5 -7 business days that it takes for electronic transfers (in cash and not in kind), it took over 60 days. The stocks I had in my portfolio before liquidation ended up doubling in price and aside from losing 20k on my margin call, I lost maybe another 80k on the lost opportunity to make profits based on the stocks I had in my portfolio.

I have a funny accent when I speak English and these guys would make fun of my accent and I hear how their colleagues would laugh in the background...My experience was so horrible that if I was paid a salary to share it with other people, I'd accept it as a full time job.

Short version: Today is June 3rd 2020, I tried to login to Questrade at 9:50 AM but the site didn't let me login (both on computer and mobile) because they were having site maintenance. Due to that, I lost huge investment. I could have made over twice of money I invested but instead, I lost those investment.
Simply worst trading service platform available in Canada, worst policy, and worst customer service (and I thought Rogers was the worst one out there for spending 20 years in Toronto lol. Questrade is on another level.)

Long version (with piece of my mind): What kind of investment platform site does site maintenance DURING the market is going on, especially between 9:30 AM to 10 AM when the market is most volatile? Unbelievable! I am going to move all my investment to Interactive Broker the moment the site is back up. Questrade, you guys owe me every second at this very moment!
I trade options and I just lost half of the investment thanks to this unbelievable site maintenance. It was below -6% this morning when I was about to login and trade, but by the time site is back up, it's above -2.5% because it did not let me in for over 10 minutes (which shouldn't have taken more than 30 sec at the most, usually within 5 sec).

Edit: After 25 minutes, I was able to talk to client service, and of course, like every bad customer service, they switched representative twice. By the time I talked to third representative, they connected to me to a lady with extremely heavy Indian accent (even heavier than Indian telemarketers living in India) and I was even having hard time understanding a single sentence she told me which I had to ask her 3 times to understand it. Basically what she said was Questrade doesn't pay any compensation caused by technical issues. So I asked her, that technical issue was caused by this particular site platform, which is out of client's power, so Questrade has responsibility in issue like this but than she said something that is not understandable again and just hung up the phone. Worst service platform, worst customer service, worst policy. Again, Questrade. you guys do not deserve any single new clients. In fact, you guys need to pay compensation for existing clients or lose business for good.

Horrible service. GO TO SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY VALUE YOU ! This place is completely negligent of customers and the services over the phone they provide are absolutely terrible. So is the app.

Questrade SPENDS MORE MONEY ON ADS THEN THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS.

Best discount broker available in Canada. I only wish that they didn't charge commission fees when buying equities, similar to how they charge commissions on ETFs only when they are sold.

Well had a bad experience like any other fellow Questrade people. Previously gave them 5 star review but now changing it to 1. Because, customer satisfaction is not a one day feat!! And Questrade seriously lags in that. They might try to fix it but they can't fix the core reasons why such issues are happening at the first place.

I was surprised at all the negative reviews. I've had only good things to say about Questrade. I can make trades at very low rates, they have great dashboards on their website, and their mobile app is good too.

Have used them for almost 2 years, great trading platform and their customer service is far better than other institutions. Completely legit and safe. Buying ETFs is commission free and all other trades are $5 (which is cheaper than the banks).

One of the shadiest financial institutions you will ever deal with. They do not own up to the problems they create and the reps do not have enough knowledge about the industry. They are just scheming and making money off the interest rates for no reason. WATCH OUT if you are trading in CAD and USD since that is the biggest SCAM these guys run. 0 start and poor customer service!

I have been Questrade customer since 2010. This is a TERRIBLE COMPANY. They imposed an inactivity fees of $25 per quarter on my account without apprising me and eroded my entire savings :( In return, they only want to give me $100, what a pity! At least by offering some compensation, they admitted their guilt. Will be pursing legal action in Small Claims Court as well as IIROC.

If I could give 0 stars I would for customer service, TRANSPARENCY, and the lack of knowledge from the staff that I had to deal with!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! They are not professional and I've had to deal with many people before getting an appropriate answer that didn't fully address my question. Really frustrating. Would definitely go with another stock broker!!

Very poor service!

Very poor service!
I funded the account, it shows that it is still pending in some places, and that it's ready to go in other places. all i want is to get my money out now. i know it's an unpredictable time, but that is no excuse as other platforms are handling customer service in hard times much more professionally. Why does Ameritrade or Wealthsimple not have these problems? I don't think this is a market issue, this is a QUESTRADE ISSUE.

I want a refund on my deposit, this is way below what i was expecting. and further, i can't file a transfer request because the account application is still pending after 6 weeks.

At Quest Trade, we believe that everyone should have access to the best investment opportunities without breaking the bank. That's why we offer two different options for investors: self-directed investing and managed investing.

Self-Directed Investing

With self-directed investing, you have complete control over your investments. You can buy and sell stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, options and more on your own terms. Our platform is easy to use and comes with all the tools you need to make informed decisions about your investments.

We also offer some of the lowest fees in the industry. You'll pay just $4.95 per trade when buying or selling Canadian or US equities (stocks) online – regardless of how many shares you trade at once! Plus there are no annual account fees or hidden charges.

Managed Investing

If you prefer a more hands-off approach to investing, our managed portfolios may be right for you. We've partnered with some of Canada's top portfolio managers to create pre-built portfolios designed to meet different investment goals and risk tolerances.

Our portfolio managers will handle all aspects of managing your investments – from selecting individual securities to rebalancing your portfolio as needed – so you don't have to worry about a thing. And because our portfolios are built using low-cost ETFs (exchange-traded funds), they come with lower management fees than traditional mutual funds.
