We were a family of 30 people who all enjoyed our 5 days together at this wonderful resort. Selections of activities was excellent. Pool, spa, archery, kayak, horse back riding, paint ball etc. we kept busy all day long. Our outdoor dining experience at Rubino s was fantastic and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everthing that we needed. Everyone on the staff throughout the hotel and activities areas were gracious, attentive and provided excellent service.

Fabulous enjoyed our Easter here. The brunch selection was both delicious & diverse, the hotel was beautiful & the staff couldn't be more pleasant. We loved it here
Overall, would have been a good experience, but the staff was cagey about exactly what the meal package included, and it boiled down to essentially a bait-and-switch. We felt deliberately misled, and staff upon check-out were unapologetic and refused to do anything to resolve the issue. A real sour taste it our mouths at the end of an otherwise pleasant weekend. Not going back.
Beautiful, breathtaking, relaxing resort with many amenities. Carpeting needs to be refreshed since it looks worn and showers could be updated. Other than that, it was a unique and rewarding experience.
Poor service, rude staff, high prices. Went for 5 days which is not cheap. One real restaurant open and they almost seemed annoyed when calling from room to come down and pick up. Rooms were very old and not clean. Coffee shop closes at 2pm most days and when I bring my free coffee card down , the younger girl doesn t want to take it when I order something more expensive than coffee which I have no problem paying the additional cost. Everything was just a hassle. Ended up going into town to try to find food which should not happen. I was hoping not to leave resort but when it came time to eat if was a total pain. It s a shame too because there are a lot of things to do during covid but I reached out after my 5 day trip with issues and not once was I offered anything. Free room, some form of credit, nothing! Kids want to go back but how can you with the customer service. They are too young to even know how bad it was.
Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff and excellent service. Unfortunately for some, super expensive to eat and aminities are overpriced. If your wallet doesn't mind, great spot to stay and never leave!
Overall I had a lovely experience at the Omni homestead. A beautiful resort that is tucked between the mountains, surrounded by fall foliage. The grounds are amazing and well kept making it worth just a walk around the grounds to take note of all the detail. Our dining experience was wonderful with a dinner in the dining room, a great staff, tasty food, and a great ambiance. While our stay was overall a positive experience there were a few short comings at this resort. First, upon arrival the parking lot (which was insanely small for this resort) was packed to the brim leaving only valet, which was also overwhelmed and understaffed with no one tending to new arrivals for a good 5 minutes. Second, while the room was overall clean some details were not very clean at all... smudge and dust on the bathroom mirror and ledges and a used chapstick on the floor under a dresser. Lastly, I feel like the amount of nickel and diming here was a little much, especially for a select member. Charging for water in the room, high prices valet service, and even overpriced games in the kids arcade. As a whole we had a great time here and enjoyed the ambiance, friendly staff, and relaxing environment and would definitely suggest for someone looking to get away in the mountains of VA.
Wonderful family resort with activities for all ages! Food was delicious! Golf course was beautiful and in excellent condition. Friendly and helpful staff!
Attended for a business off-site. View is great, rooms are pretty good, and business accommodations were great. Definitely go do the falconry - you won't regret it
Incredible place! Once again proves to be one of my favorite destinations. Beautiful resort, fantastic service, incredible food, one of the best golf courses in the U.S. (Cascades). Great fly fishing, zip lines, trap and skeet shooting.... Big fan!
Picturesque, stunning but is great need of renovation. Skimpy staff. For a place that advertises "SPA", it just wasn't open - Really??!! Breakfast buffet was expensive and NO ONE was eating there so what does that tell you?! Long term staff were wonderful but management seems to be cutting too many corners. Sadly the promise of a wonderful experience was met with an unacceptable memory.
A grand relic. This is a beautiful, charming facility that is difficult to keep up. The staff is generally very nice and accommodating, the food tastes great, and the grounds are lovely.
The amenities that are actually available are very limited thanks to covid.
The website and communication of what is available are not kept up to date and leave much to be desired. Do not expect to have clear understanding of what is available by perusing the website or listening to descriptions of the facility.
The prices are outrageous, bordering on confiscatory with absolutely nothing "included" in the room or "resort fee." Parking is impossible unless you valet at a rate of $20/night. A Miller Lite is $6.50. The Holiday Inn free continental breakfast far exceeds the cost/benefit here.
Again, as a summary: nice people, beautiful history, deferred maintenance, expensive.
Would be nice to be asleep right now instead of listening to hammer like sounds from the antiquated heat system that has been off since we checked in 6 hours ago. Not sure why we keep coming back here - we love for our family to be together - but this place is FALLING APART. Period. For 4 rooms/3 nights we will spend 12k and that gets you no sleep and mediocre food where no one will serve you a grilled cheese at this kid friendly resort. And I am still waiting for maintenance....
Had a one night stay for a conference, but was able to bring my husband. We enjoyed the conference experience, but also many of the amenities on property. We hope to return soon when we don't have an agenda to follow!
Lots to do here. Don't eat on property - explore the area, lots of great local spots. Make reservations early for everything you want to do and where you want to eat.
Visited here from Florida. We had intentions of snow tubing, snow mobiling, taking the express train to make smores. We drove all the way from Florida and weren't able to do any of it. The only thing we were able to do was swim in the indoor heated pool, to which on the last day of our stay it was no longer heated. We asked if my son could do a guided horse tour since nothing else was available and they told us we couldn't do that either, and gave us no explanation as to why. We spent a lot of money on a (in renovation) resort. Very disappointing. Will not be back.
Nice grounds. Room was rustic but nice. A bit of a journey to get there . We stayed for one night...mainly for the historic experience while driving through the area. I think you need to be quite wealthy to enjoy the extra activities like falconry, horseback riding, skeeter shooting etc. But the pools are included free and that makes for a nice day. Outside of that not much in the area in my opinion. Limited food options. Gorgeous building which my kids wont forget.....I felt one day was enough
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at the Omni Homestead. The service was outstanding, gracious and professional. The room was well appointed and very clean. The food was excellent. I highly recommend it for any special occasion.
The Homestead was a huge disappointment! While impressive from afar, it didn't take long to see the hotel was in disrepair- chipped paint, rotten wood, leaking ceilings, stained and dirty rugs and upholstery, out of order elevator, and broken games in arcade. The worst part was the worn out guest room in the "newer section", which smelled of urine. We immediately asked to switch rooms and were told no. They sent a dehumidifier instead. Even the hotel workers agreed it smelled of urine in the room. We couldn't even open the french doors to air out the room because the handle was broken off. And they over charge for everything- $10/day for parking, $6 for bottled water provided in guest rooms, $8 for a bottled beer, "mineral fee" added to meal checks, etc. It's more like an amusement park than a nice resort- crowded, long lines, high prices, crying kids, not a single chair available at the pool by 10:30am on a Saturday. We will not return and are puzzled by its reputation.
Just stayed this past weekend, January 2013. I felt compelled to leave immediate feedback to discourage anyone from picking the Homestead. I loved how it looked online and there were some favorable reviews, however, they were older posts. I planned this for a weekend get away for my husband and I, it is rare that we can duck out and I had high expectations. It is a beautiful resort, however, I have stayed in Hamptons or Holiday Inns just as nice. The building is very dated and in serious need of many upgrades and repairs. Our cable went our while we were there, during an intense football game and when we called, they simply said "yea it's out". When we first arrived, we told them it was our first time visiting, and they didn't welcome us or tell us of the surrounding amenities, like hiking and waterfalls, we found that out as we were leaving. We might have found some things on our own over the internet, but that too was out during our stay, and would have cost an additional $20. I had planned for us to have a romantic dinner, as they have a very nice dining facility, but no one told me during the reservation it was suit and tie only. I brought our business casual and dress clothes but didn't think about suit and tie! There is nothing in the 'one block' town that accomodates a nice dinner meal. Sam Sneeds serves dinner, $17. for a hamburger, all the other meals are over $28. and the food is average. The only other restaurant is Lindsays Diner, it was a family place and the food was good. There's a list of things to do, great for families, but you better call ahead with questions and expect to be put on hold, because the less than friendly staff doesn't know any of the answers. We wanted to ice skate on Saturday, I called the desk and after holding, they told me the rink was open till 9pm. We went down to get our skates at 7pm and were told they were closing early! There is no game room, No Bowling alley anymore, when something breaks, they just close it. The spa is closed for renovations, but they still charge full price to go into "a designated room" for a massage. We wanted to see if there was popcorn for the movie they offer in the theater, we were told the pub has popcorn, we said what pub? We were never told there was a pub inside the building, we could have watched the football game there while our cable was out! When we went to the pub, they informed us that the popcorn machine has been broken for ten months... They also said they are usually closed, they are only open during major games, etc...No Schedule.. One of the valets got our car for us wearing a baseball cap and chewing gum. They charge an enormous amount for a room, but don't provide any level of service to support it. Very Poor on all accounts! Our room was 550. for two nights and it was one very frustrating weekend! Thanks for making it a great experience! Not!
My husband and I needed a getaway after he had serious health issues over the past year. Our children gave us Omni Gift certificates and we decided to go to the Homestead. We LOVED it! So beautiful driving thru the mountains to get there and then to find the beautiful resort! We relaxed a lot and went to the outdoor pool/lazy river. Loved the Jefferson restaurant where we dined both nights we were there. Great coffee shop..loved sipping good coffee on the big front porch rockers! Can t say enough good and we sincerely hope to get back there!
The history behind the hotel is super cool and John who gave the tour was awesome. Zack and George on the Zip line were also awesome. Otherwise, I didn't feel it was worth the price. The activities are way over priced and they do that since their activities are the only things around. They have no competition to keep the prices reasonable. The sad thing is, it offers a lot but is over priced.
Delightful experience all around. Gorgeous property, incredible staff, wonderful amenities and options for activities. We played golf, had spa treatments, enjoyed the pools, hot tub, natural mineral hot spring and lovely grounds, rested by the fire pit in the evening, ate wonderful food, took the history tour, sat on the front porch in their perfect rocking chairs, loved afternoon tea (wonderful!) and had a relaxing, marvelous visit. Highly recommended.
Absolutely everything at the Homestead costs too much for quality. Beautiful landscape and buildings marred by dirty, outdated decor. Friendly staff everywhere, but they are clearly overwhelmed and poorly trained, and the resort is understaffed. Difficult parking, loading, and unloading for those with disabilities. Need more information on website regarding facility hours, charges, room amenities, and surrounding area attractions and amenities, especially lack of pharmacy on weekends and breakfast options after 10:30 a.m.
Reservation was incorrect and ended up in a first floor room that was stuffy, moldy, and mildewed. Staff changed room to two floors above and it was worlds better. First floor hallways (especially near pool and spa) are damp and smell terrible. Should not fill nearby rooms unless there is no other availability. Housekeeper did not take away dirty dishes or trash from room. No mini fridge makes it impossible to store leftovers or to keep water or medications cold. TV remote in both rooms were not responsive and guide was hard to navigate. Beds are somewhat uncomfortable and terry robes (when included) were scratchy. Would like a few padded hangers in closet for delicate clothes. Had to call someone to unlock safe. No one picks up phone when calling spa or front desk.
Terrible value for food and snacks. Sandwiches from Martha s Market were soggy and had olive pit I bit down on inside. Buffet items were mediocre, bland, lukewarm, and overpriced, but fresh waffles were delicious.
Nail salon was unstaffed, dirty, disorganized, and had poor ventilation. Nail techs were about 10 minutes late and there was nowhere to sit and wait. Kind but unprofessional staff. Hand scrub and massage were nice, but manicure itself was poor rushed, messy, and with no clean-up. Locker room, Aqua Thermal Suite, Serenity Garden, co-ed Relaxation Area, and other spa facilities were lovely with exception of scaffolding, caution tape, and strange office chairs in Serenity Garden area. Excellent couples massage with professional, courteous staff. Improperly charged for Serenity Garden when husband and I had two qualifying services that day.
Probably would not return. Would prefer to stay nearby and pay for activities and to use spa and other facilities.
Changed rooms 24 hours from arrival from a 3 month booking. Way under staffed. 2 hour and 30 min dinners. Walls and carpets are chipped and water damage everywhere wall paper falling down. Food was okay. HORRIBLE SERVICE ORDER 2 DRINKS AT A TIME YOUR GOING TO BE THERE A WHILE!
Stayed here for a wedding celebration and we certainly had a great time! Of course, having the whole family around helped make the trip extra special but Omni was very comfortable.
I find the breakfast situation odd as I would prefer that to be included within the price of the room. It isn't becoming of a place like the Omni, who I feel could easily adjust their pricing structure.
Another oddity, is their bottled water in the rooms which are once again chargeable. I have no issues with paying for services, but why not just include it in the price of the room? Just don't get this aspect of pricing.
Spa is fantastic and we especially loved the outdoor heated spa. Very refreshing and highly recommended.
Overall - 8/10
I have only marked the Omni down for their frankly weird breakfast and minor chargeables policy.
Words can't express how I feel about this place. This place is Elegant, Beautiful, Clean, and that is just a understatement. We will be doing more girls getaways more often at Omni.
Absolutely beautiful property! The resort is pretty spectacular, though probably due for some renovations. The food was excellent! The spa, even better! Overall, a bit pricey but I definitely hope to return in the future!
Fabulous hotel! All of the accolades. Wonderful Thanksgiving lunch and swim in the pool. Stayed years ago and was still at the upper echelon of hotels.
On the positive side, the Homestead is a lovely historical building on an absolutely beautiful property. The golf courses are stunning and very well maintained, as are the pools and the stables. Unfortunately, when I actually needed help during my stay, the staff was a total disappointment.
I booked a mountain bike rental on one of the mornings, and my husband and I took the shuttle up to the trailhead. The staff at the bike rental area were helpful, sizing our bikes and fitting us with helmets. The employee who sent us on our way mentioned that some of the trail areas might be "a little" rough - a few down trees perhaps due to storms. We started down the trail and realized about 10 minutes in that it wasn't going to be a little rough - it was going to be downright dangerous. Deep ruts, mud, sliding rocks, wet leaves. Perhaps if I had been wearing full padding and gear this would have been acceptable, but for a leisurely vacation ride? Absolutely not. Several of the trail signs also seemed to be down, leaving us to figure out how to get from one messy area of the trail to another. To its credit, where the trail wasn't completely torn to shreds (for about half a mile or so in the middle of the ride) it was lovely, with well packed gravel and great scenery. However by the time we got to the main building again, I had had several near misses, branches in spokes, bad slides, and my legs were cut very badly. If I had gotten prompt care and service I would have just considered this an adventure and been done with it, but it actually gets worse.
I went to the front desk and asked for a first aid kit, and some bandages. At this time there was blood running down the back of my leg and literally pooling in one of my shoes. It was clearly visible in addition to many cuts and bruises. The front desk attendant seemed dubious that I was even a guest, although when I assured her that I was staying there, she didn't ask for my room number or verify it. What's more, she didn't have a first aid kit, peroxide or anything else I asked for! Instead, she looked very blank and asked one of the young men standing nearby to check at the concierge. He came back (about 10 minutes later?!) and said that no, sorry, since "so many people had been having bike accidents(!) they were totally out" of all first aid supplies. The young lady at the desk then offered to call security, which I took her up on since I hadn't packed anything for wound care. I then had to stand on the fancy carpet, bleeding, for twenty full minutes. She said that I could sit down on the expensive looking ivory plush chair behind me, but I didn't feel comfortable ruining the upholstery. After standing, bleeding for 20 minutes in front of the desk while being studiously ignored by the two attendants (I suppose since I was "taken care" of), I left. Security NEVER showed up. I never got a first aid kit. My husband ended up driving to the nearest CVS about 30 minutes away to get me some first aid.
I can hardly blame the young people at the desk for what happened. It's 100% clear that they had no training on how to behave in a health related situation. It is completely unacceptable, however, to leave someone who is bleeding and may be more severely injured standing on your carpet for 30+ total minutes, with no medical care or first aid. Homestead charges a lot for supposed conveniences - resort fees, add on charges, etc etc. But I don't care about "Tea" or tours when I'm legitimately injured and need immediate care. All the fancy cups and maid service in the world can't compensate for the level of unprofessional treatment that I received here. I surely will not return.
Omni homestead is a place for a great memorable experience . Come one come all for this great experience away from home and our professional staff are awaiting to serve you .
Great place for getting away from it ALL. The current resort was built in the early 1900's which is in part it's charm and it's down fall. (Long review)
The resort is charming even though it is large. There are some good restaurants/chefs on or near the property. The king suite I had was comfortable the bed was comfortable. The chair was nice the bathroom was OK I liked the dressing area was separated from bathtub and room. Which afforded an area to get dressed while your spouse either slept in or was bathing.
It confuses me though with a name like Omni (the prices for hotel rooms, food, and practically everything to do $$$$) why the rooms are lacking in modernizations that even low budget hotels have (room refrigerator, microwave, USB charger stations). They do supply each room with an ice bucket and down the hallway was a ice machine, but there is NOT any drink machines on property (bring your own beverages).
This may not matter to most travelers but handicap travelers beware of the "Homestead" was not built with you in mind. My spouse was struggling in mobility and as such needed a wheelchair. The staff member that checked us in noticed and offered a wheelchair for us during the duration of our stay (at no extra charge) a plus for customer satisfaction. However, as someone in a wheelchair will find to get from point to point in the Homestead was a daunting task. Yes, the resort has elevators but not all floors are connected. Several of the wheelchair ramp grades are WAY to steep. If it had not been for the staff member at check in I would rate Homestead as a 1 out of 5 for handicap travelers.
I was there for a conference the conference rooms varied in sizes which allows for break out sessions. The grand ballroom(s) are large enough to handle the resort's size. The staff that serviced the meals were friendly and efficient they delivered the three-course meal quickly with little to no flaws. The WiFi in the conference rooms varied as to it's connection and speed; two presenter had issues while others didn't so there is room for improvement in this area for the resort.
Overall I think the resort has some things going for it that makes me want to give it thumbs up but until management (Omni) moves towards modern 21st century basic amenities I'd have to say this is one resort NOT worth the expenses.
Lots of caked on dust on ac unit and hairdryer. HVAC not working. Staff is great, though... but the cleaning person isn't getting the nooks and crannys! Staff just aren't empowered to anything but keep moving me. original room. Ok.... i rolled with it after seeing my breath for 45 mins. Moved to a room down the hall. No hot water.... (which meant in the whole block of rooms). I have been trying to "be" in "a hotel" for 8 hours now. No sleep and it's 650 am now. Unfortunately, I'm here on businesses and all of our conferences are in the wing they placed me in, so I will not have slept and will take a cold shower if I take one, and will hope they have the H2o fixed by lunch.
They say that they just started refreshing the hotel... but for an Omni, they should have booked my group in a different area, since am guessing these are known issues.
Sadly, The Homestead isn't what it used to be. The Omni should admit they made a mistake, and find a luxury hotel buyer who can do the property justice. The Homestead deserves better, as do her long-term, still-dedicated patrons. Until then, I would suggest that anyone consider other alternatives in the area, such at The Inn at Gristmill Square.
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. The drive was 4 hrs of great scenery. The hotel is great. Staff very helpful. We booked a service at the spa, so we had access to serenity garden (adult pool area). We had a great 3 day staff. Booked all activities prior to arriving.
I stayed at the Omni Homestead Resort for two nights. It is a lovely property and the staff were professional, accommodating, and courteous. However, Omni owns the Jefferson Pools and are allowing them to rot in disrepair. I will not return to this resort until the historic pools are reopened and restored to a working condition. The Jefferson Pools are historic, unique, and should be preserved.
My husband and I enjoyed celebrating our 40th year of marriage with The Homestead--we enjoyed the fireplace and piano music. Our food was delicious we enjoyed the shops and the friendliness of the staff. We will be back in January 2019 and look forward to being in such a wonderful relaxing area of Virginia. Thank you for beautiful rooms--delicious food--and an overall wonderful week end to celebrate.
