We have been coming here for years now; it is our happy place.
Great for a romantic getaway as well as a fun place to have time with our young children. True southern hospitality, complete with tea and live piano music.

The room we stayed in had two non working lights upon arrival. The next night the bathroom water turned brown and was like that for the rest of the night. Heater made a lot of noise. The room overall was terrible. Place has a TON of kids which surprised me. Dinner in the dining room was phenomenal! This stay woukd have been better if it was warmer out and I could enjoy the outdoors more than being surrounded by kids.

The people who work there are fantastic but this weekend was riddled with problems due to intermittent power failure throughout the weekend. And then charged $15 for a buffet that consisted of cold cuts on Wonder bread and pasta/potato salad and coleslaw. Expected more from such a beautiful establishment.

Wow, I have never been treated so poorly at this resort as I have this year. Very very poor lack of communication to the change of rules with the new owner, and then to have the bell boy make us push our own cart downstairs, then down to the car and proceed to watch us load the car up and also expect a tip for doing nothing???? It was great the past two years so upset we will never be coming here again because we cant even enjoy ourselves.

The setting and grounds are outstanding. The rooms are dated and small. The carpets are worn out in most of the hotel. The food is good, but over priced. It is a living history museum that needs a LOT OF WORK. Rooms and food are EXPENSIVE for the offerings. Have great hopes that Omni can bring her back up to standards as they did for the Grove Park.

We stayed at the Omni Homestead on May 5,2018. We are giving it a 1 star because at 3 am we awoke to the ceiling leaking from the heavy rain. The next morning our things in the bathroom wete wet from a leak in the roof there. The bathtub wouldn't drain. When we told the front desk about all the problems with the room, they said they would take $50 off our bill.We did enjoy meeting some of the staff and wanted to compliment their service.I asked the front desk for a complimentary card to fill out as we have done this previously but were told we would get an email to review our stay.I wouldn't even give the room a one star but the staff we met and I have their names deserve 5 stars for their service. I expected more as The Homestead was always a place we enjoyed going over the past 30 years.

If I could only rate this gem 10 stars I would everytime!!! I had the absolute best hotel experience ever with my wife I want to personally thank Carmen the front desk host and recommend her for a promotion! Her customer service is impeccable. She had everything ready for us exactly how we envisioned it! Thank you Carmen so much from both of us!! The Omni Homestead Resort as a whole is fabulous! It has everything for every member of the family. Will be coming back very soon and bringing my mother and father to treat them to your piece of historical beauty! Thanks again and say hello to Mike the barender! That gentleman knows Hot springs, VA

This is our fourth time at the Homestead. It is a place that we as a family always are excited to venture. Unfortunately there are major concerns regarding this hotel. From responsiveness to Guests needs, maintenance issues and upkeep. Some staff are absolutely exceptional, however, there seems to be an overall sense of disinterest.

The disinterest extends, it appears, to the management level. As when concerns were brought forward there was not any follow up.

Please bring back the Homestead.

Our group of 12 family members had a wonderful 5 day stay in July. Staff are wonderful and prompt. Highest ratings for the staff. We booked the spa and a number of resort activities and all were very enjoyable with knowledgeable and friendly guides. Our rooms were clean; pools were clean and well maintained; the grounds are beautiful, as is the building itself, with many areas to explore. I would not give five stars to the restaurants--menus are limited and the food was good but not excellent, perhaps due to high volume. We were there during the week and did not feel it was crowded. We had heard summers are very crowded, but perhaps just on weekends. This resort is a great luxury (though not the highest one can find) experience. We felt the service and amenities were worth the prices.

Lovely stay, tons of amenities and very good service. Our only disappointment was the dinning experiences at the Jefferson and Main Dinning restaurants. It wasn't that we didn't receive good service, it was we paid a premium price and expected a memorable meal but, only got an average-to-good plate. We'll come back for all the amenities but will have a much lower expectation of our meals from the on resort.

I love the location and the grounds and really want to rate this resort favorably. The previous remarks about maintenance problems are spot on. Almost everywhere you look there are signs of neglect. Filthy carpets in the main lobby, tiles missing in the spa pool, peeling paint everywhere. Our suite had not been swept before we arrived- two calls later finally got housekeeping in to take care of it. Inoperable lights, broken drain in the bathtub, refrigerator that would only go above freezing when it was unplugged, noisy air-conditioning; really just too much to consider reasonable. For the price of the suite and the fact that this is an Omni property, one would and should expect more. Finally, many of the staff could use some training . On several occasions we encountered folks who did not seem to be very competant in their duties and responsibilities-or possibly did not care. We love the location, but there are better resorts to visit in the region. It is a shame to see such a wonderful place starting to slip.

Visited The Homestead in October and it was absolutely perfect! The rooms are beautiful and clean. I had a fantastic tower view!! Tea and dessert in the afternoon was a nice touch.

Shout out to Markell at the front desk for being so personable and accommodating! What a sweetie! Connie in housekeeping was also very kind.

I attended a conference at this hotel. The employees were so helpful, and the food was also good.

Great place overall just have to take into consideration how old it is, it's not going to be like a new building. Only real complaint is the dining options. They need to change and expand most of the menus in the restaurants. It's quite mediocre at best. Everyone in our eight people group didn't want to go back to any of the restaurants. We tried to eat off of the resort but there's only a few options. Your best menu and food by far is the in room dining.

So many activities, great golf, and the overall scenery/landscaping is amazing.

On the outside the only complaint is the gnats. Sometimes they get so bad you have to leave what you are doing.

This was probably our 10th visit and we love visiting here. I am concerned about the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property. Indoor pool ladies room - newish hair dryers and broken shower bench; room bathtub looks clean, spigots near wall look grotty; indoor pool - wet towels were picked up and fresh towels replenished but trash sitting at the far end of the pool for three days; clothing in stores look lovely but biggest woman's size was L. We will return and try to overlook these but it gets harder each time.

The place is very beautiful. I was staying with all my family to celebrate my grandparents' birthday, and it was so much fun. There is much to do, from swimming pools to riding horses. If not so expensive, I would stay there all the time, but I'm not rich. I have to save my money for the next trip.

Beautiful experience. Surprised to find so many children but there is the mineral spa area where NO CHILDREN are allowed. The Hike is a must with BRIAN. I learned so much in the 3 hours but it is a very demanding hike with uneven ground. There are also steep steps with no hand supports (Yes, it IS in nature). Their 'moderate difficulty' description is being kind. Be in EXCELLENT shape to take this hike.

From the time I arrived until going down the drive to leave, everyone was friendly, caring and quick to respond to any requests. No matter how upscale, without this type of service I would not go there. The Homestead is just far and away the best at service and accommodating any special needs. And, it's a beautiful place to stay, inside and out. I am there at least twice a year for conferences and it's always the same. Five star quality all the way,

First time to visit and we will make return trips. There is so much to do, the staff is super friendly. The spa day we had was relaxing and we felt pampered. Loved the old world charm of the property along with the up to date features to keep it current for its guests. A bit of nostalgia where couples and families can enjoy a true mountain resort experience.

Our room was not fully cleaned upon arrival. There were things the previous guests had left remaining in the room and half drank water bottles. The pillows were stained, kinda gross. Pretty disappointing that a majority of the restaurants listed were not even open. We scheduled activities with the front desk, which ultimately were not set up properly. Therefore, when we got to the golf course we had to wait an hour for someone to get us set up. The massage experience was pretty mediocre as well. Not worth the money spent.

Five star prices in memory of once magnificent hotel. Property was really run down. Carpets were not cleaned for years and antique air-conditioning was so loud that it was difficult to rest at night. Only one restaurant with basic menu was open with limited staff, which is so sketch out that unable to provide quality. Hot springs facilities were falling apart and closed. Spa at hotel had limited services and canceled scheduled treatments at the last moment.

PROS- This place is gorgeous on the outside...beautiful history and great ammenities with lots of activities. The staff is friendly although if one were to compare it to a Mexico resort (which is the only other resort I've stayed at, Mexico blows it away)

CONS- when I'm paying 300+ a night for a room, I don't expect to be nickel and dimed for EVERYTHING...WIFI isn't even included. the SPA packages come with a service fee after...and it's hefty.Crafting during the day as an activity on a rainy day- cost money. A horse carriage right- 30 minutes through the woods is ridiculously overpriced although the guide was fantastic. What I'm the most disappointed about is the cost of this hotel vs. it's condition. There is duct tape on the carpet, only one elevator works, my rooms mattress was a cliff from edge to middle -- it was so worn, the arm of my chair had a hole in it, the roof of the spa is falling through the ceiling, the front porch has a roof with a hole, a very visible hole, the AC in the room has a thermostat that doesnt work- we were told it's only an off or on function (I would never bring my infant or small toddler for this reason alone- we went to bed at 76 degrees and woke up below 60 every night. I went out and bought a hoodie and sweatpants), gutters are falling apart- hard not to see since my view was the AC units and the back of the building. The mineral baths are a fantastic draw to this resort- but unless you spend Xalot of dollars in the SPA you arent allowed access to them

OVERALL- Omni took over the hotel in past several years. All I have to say is that they have a lot of work to do before I'd consider spending this kind of money here again. While I appreciate the history and was excited to be experiencing the history, the cost doesnt match the experience for me.

Hotel is beautiful. There are plenty of outdoor activities. The grounds are beautiful. However, there were stains in the furniture and the bedding seemed to be stained with blood. Water stains on the ceiling and wallpaper peeling in lots of places. The only reason I would return is for the historical nature of the hotel and the outdoor activities. This being said, I do realize it takes a lot of funding to keep the hotel in pristine condition.

Always love a trip to the Homestead. It was a busy weekend there, with several weddings occurring, so we enjoyed sitting in the lobby watching everyone. We went to the outside pool on Saturday and were able to find a quiet "adult" area even though the pool was fairly crowded.
Thank goodness for Martha's Market, as this is the only affordable option for a light breakfast on the property - homemade donuts are amazing, and there is a nice selection of yogurt, fruits, smoothies and coffee drinks. It's not cheap though.
Make sure to enjoy the free tea service at 3 p.m. everyday in the lobby. great people watching.
We ate at Snead's and while it was enjoyable, the menu was limited and quite expensive. Second night we ate at the Casino (new name is "Woody's") and found that to be a nicer, simpler menu and prices were much more affordable.
Magical time as always at this lovely resort!

Beautiful hotel with old world charm. The lazy river and outdoor pool/ lazy river was perfect for the family. Some of the cosmetics could be improved upon. Biggest negative was that the food was astronomically high priced.....$80 for an adult for a summer kickoff bbq....absurd! I also don't understand why the extra resort fee when every activity added more $ to total bill. Would recommend to family and friends but bring your own drinks and snacks and go to the small local diners for meals!

Stayed in town, but visited the Homestead for food and drinks. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and even as a visitor I felt welcomed. The drinks at the sports bar were a tad bit expensive, but they were quite a bit better than your average hotel bar. It's always a good sign when the bartenders show creativity and suggest their own versions of well-known drinks. For any future visits, I would happily come back.

This is our 3rd time at The Homestead. All our visits have been in the late fall or winter. We love the variety of activities available. During our stays we have done falconry, skeet shooting, outdoor rifle range, Cascades hike, self guided hike, history tour, movie night, outdoor swimming and a spa day. The kids love being able to swim outside when it is cold out. We we're hoping to check out the skiing this time however the weather didn't cooperate. This winter was too warm and wet for snow for the slopes. The slopes still haven't opened for the season. Even with our planned main activities (snow related) unavailable, we still found plenty to do. The staff have all been friendly and helpful. Please note that there is a lot of walking. The hotel is sprawling as it was built at different times and on the side of the mountain.

This Hotel is amazing. So much character. The history here is so interesting. From the hot springs to the golf course, there is no shortage of one of a kind experiences here. Falconry, skeet shooting, fly fishing, you have it all here. The staff is fantastic. The rooms are clean and spacious. The dining options are all very good. Come here for a few days or if you can, a week. You will never get bored or run out of things to do. Excellent experience all around.

Have stayed several times at homestead with mostly positive experiences,,, this time as follows. arrived Saturday afternoon all is good we have dinner kids play in the pool etc... Sat night drip in 1 of our 2 rooms (Chinese water torture) no sleep... moved 1 room on Sunday no help from bellman, no new keys brought,no complimentary drink as they kept promising for some reason and then never fulfilled. and wayyyyy away from the the other room.....(supposed to have 2 rooms adjacent) Super bowl Sunday ice skating, outdoor pool, hot tub, and their only non-formal dining restaurant ALL closed??? really??? Have 2 kids and they close every family friendly amenity on Super bowl Sunday? Ran into multiple parents / families all in disbelief they would close everything on super bowl Sunday and what was also their winter fest weekend????? Ended up eating at Jefferson's (dress code and $30.00 entree's with our 3 year old) New room was ok , however apparently not just ours...they then rented the new room to other people later deactivating my key twice. Had to return to front desk 3 times to receive new keys and explanations. Tried to salvage some of Sunday by wife and older daughter going to spa where my daughter was rudely told she was to young ..?? I have been spa several times and seen teens with their parents. anyway so that's now shot as well......I could go on ,, but its really beyond belief, , Ended up checking out a day early and $1500.00 lighter for our 2 day stay....they are apparently going to send me some sort of comp... we shall see

We been coming here for decades. Always enjoyed the southern hospitality of the hotel but sometime ago after Omni hotel has taken over, it has lost the specialty. It is ran like typical hotels rather than homestead like feel. Also over all cost of hotel has gone up considerably. Which is ok if services were improved than before but it hasn't changed for better. I would like to give it a 5 stars but today I don't believe they deserve it.

Excellent Service from people like Woody, Sandra in housekeeping & Miguel out front... and many more that I can't remember their names.... These folks went out of there way to provide over the top service which made for a great visit. The rooms were great. The building is beautiful. The pool area with food, drink & water slides for the kids truly make the Homestead a resort experience. Not to mention the food... 12 on a scale of 1-10. We will be back often. Again thank you to the staff for making our visit so so good!!!

I and other members of my family visit The Homestead at least annually for family reunions. My sister has friends in the dining room and in the reservation area because we have been going there for over two decades. The food and restaurant service is always great, the rooms are comfortable and we enjoy time at the new Lazy River and swimming complex. I have enjoyed playing on the two golf courses. My mother prefers to stay in the Tower and in the past five years, wedding guests have become unruly. It is not uncommon for my sleep to be disturbed by late night revelers at the main entrance wishing well to a departing newly wed couple. Last September there was a massive party on the 17th floor out door roof patio. I called the front desk at 12:30 a.m. to ask that they quiet the guests. When I called again at 1:20 a.m. because the noise had temporarily diminished and then came back with a vengeance, hotel security said it had asked the room occupants to quiet down and would ask them to do so again. Signs all around the hotel and near elevators indicating that it is Hush Time at 9:00 p.m. are disregarded by guests and not enforced by the resort. To enjoy a good night's sleep at this resort on wedding weekends now I no longer book rooms in the Tower. Maybe the resort needs the money from the boisterous fraternity crowd to support its operation, but it does not provide a good sleeping resort experience to its other guests.

Omni- The Homestead 1766 is a wonderful, old-school resort experience and has many available special pricing and packages in the late Fall and Winter off-season, but be aware that some amenities are reduced or limited when staff is reduced. Also, the wet, chilly weather in Virginia's western mountains from late October through early March negates many outdoor offerings, both generally and specifically; even affecting the typically outstanding SPA offerings. What a beautiful stay, beautiful resort and old fa...

What a beautiful stay, beautiful resort and old fashion customer service! They have in your service, amazing people- all focused on making your stay memorable.

I am here with my 90 year old mom who recently had a stroke. She and my dad came here every year to play golf. It was part of their life. My dad is 15 years gone but when my mom, after her stoke, showed interest in traveling, I thought why not The Homestead. If the memories don't come flooding back, at least she will feel the comfort of familiarity. So this trip was more than a relaxing stay; it was a trip to find the key to the treasure chest of memories. And it worked!

We arrived with great excitement. At the front desk, we were warmly met by Alexander. When he heard we were celebrating my moms 90th, he hand selected our room! Everyday we have made comment on this awesome room 1803. As my mom sleeps in, I've watch the sky radiate over the mountains with the sun rise and every night, we look out to the changing fall colors in the rooms solarium. Just magnificent!

Nate, the concierge, has led us to the best restaurants. And Eric, the bellman, always remembered our name and car. When he heard we were driving over to The Greenbriar, he suggested we look for his friend Joey, whom used to work at The Homestead. As we pull up to The Greenbriar, the Bell Captain was taking my keys while someone is helping my mom out welcoming the Palmers back to The Greenbriar! It was Joey and Eric had called ahead!!

WHAT a special trip it has been for the both of us! My mom leaves with many more memories than she came in with - old and new.

Not only is The Homestead a beautiful hotel; more special are the people inside!

So blessed to have spent more time at The Homestead. The Jefferson was a great dining experience. Pretty disappointed with the Thanksgiving meal which was served in the conference center. Would not recommend it. Food was cold and service was poor. I'm chalking it up as just a miss for their team when they otherwise have excellent service.

Wonderful food and service. A lovely setting and kind and gracious staff. Four s only because the place is old. I would not say tired just old. This shows in faded carpets, painted over chips in wood trim, and strange walkways that seem to have been important 150 years ago but not today. Would I come back though? In a heart beat. What is old is special and unique. It's an experience and an honor to visit.

Took my fiance here for a weekend getaway. We've had family and friends that raved about this place so we decided to give it a try. Overall it just seemed like no one cared that we were there. The staff was practically asleep the whole time and had a hard time listening. I would highly not recommend coming here during the winter because the building still sports the 250 year old windows (in the tower) and it cannot handle the request of the thermostat at 70*. The mattresses are so worn in you can't escape the crevasse that each hotel guest has aided in creating. Pillows are of airplane liner quality. For a 4-star hotel, room service is lackluster at best - they simply bring it in throw you the check and they don't bother pulling the food out of the warming cart. I asked for a turn down service one evening and to please bring up new towels and firmer pillows while we were at dinner. I came back to a room with a 2 new pillows that were even softer than the ones, a bed not made and no towels in sight. I was expecting great food during a meal, but was met with a piece of Salmon served skin up on a side dish (didn't even fit on the plate) and a confused waitress/bartender that didn't know how to prepare a glass of Vodka with a splash of cranberry (I was met with a lemon drop martini and then a side oz. of cranberry so I could mix my own drink). Oh and I can't forget about the $9.95 - $14.95 daily internet charge... The year is 2017 and Mcdonalds give us free WiFi, but a 4-star hotel can't fulfill that request. I hate to project such a negative impression of the place, but I'm a pretty simple person to be pleased. All I ask is when I spent money on perceived value, I want to be provided said value and it was just exhausting to deal with this place.
