This is a very hip little hotel. It's right downtown in the heart of everything. So that part was really great. The continental breakfast was better than most. The beds were pretty comfortable and the pillows were just fine. And, the bar is cool.
The bad parts were that it sits right next to an active train track, loud rumbling at different times throughout the day and night. You need to request a coffee pot if you want one in your room and make sure they bring you cups... So the first morning I didn't have coffee without leaving the room first. The second morning I had a coffee maker in the room, but no cups to drink out of. They have a shower extension pipe with a handheld shower attached to it. I am 5 foot 10 and I had to reach on my tippy-toes to get the handheld down. So if you're 7 feet tall you are going to love love love this shower. If you are shorter than me you're probably not going to like it. Now I had family staying in one of the other rooms and their shower wasn't as tall as mine although it was still very adequately tall. As tall people we appreciate that for sure, but in my room, it was kind of ridiculous.
Last, but not least, was the parking. They have a very small parking lot on site. When we got there it was completely full and we had to park in the Overflow parking lot, which happens to be a block-and-a-half away at their other hotel location. Not very convenient at all. I chose the Ruby over the Ruby 2 because of the cool little bar, although it was cheaper to stay at the Ruby 2. If I had to do it over again I would choose to stay at the Ruby 2 and have similar rooms but a plethora of parking. I'd walk them block-and-a-half to the bar if I wanted to go there.
Overall, it's a decent, fun looking old-school hotel that was converted. It did the job for the most part.
