Just stayed this past weekend, January 2013. I felt compelled to leave immediate feedback to discourage anyone from picking the Homestead. I loved how it looked online and there were some favorable reviews, however, they were older posts. I planned this for a weekend get away for my husband and I, it is rare that we can duck out and I had high expectations. It is a beautiful resort, however, I have stayed in Hamptons or Holiday Inns just as nice. The building is very dated and in serious need of many upgrades and repairs. Our cable went our while we were there, during an intense football game and when we called, they simply said "yea it's out".
When we first arrived, we told them it was our first time visiting, and they didn't welcome us or tell us of the surrounding amenities, like hiking and waterfalls, we found that out as we were leaving. We might have found some things on our own over the internet, but that too was out during our stay, and would have cost an additional $20. I had planned for us to have a romantic dinner, as they have a very nice dining facility, but no one told me during the reservation it was suit and tie only. I brought our business casual and dress clothes but didn't think about suit and tie! There is nothing in the 'one block' town that accomodates a nice dinner meal. Sam Sneeds serves dinner, $17. for a hamburger, all the other meals are over $28. and the food is average. The only other restaurant is Lindsays Diner, it was a family place and the food was good.
There's a list of things to do, great for families, but you better call ahead with questions and expect to be put on hold, because the less than friendly staff doesn't know any of the answers. We wanted to ice skate on Saturday, I called the desk and after holding, they told me the rink was open till 9pm. We went down to get our skates at 7pm and were told they were closing early!
There is no game room, No Bowling alley anymore, when something breaks, they just close it. The spa is closed for renovations, but they still charge full price to go into "a designated room" for a massage.
We wanted to see if there was popcorn for the movie they offer in the theater, we were told the pub has popcorn, we said what pub? We were never told there was a pub inside the building, we could have watched the football game there while our cable was out! When we went to the pub, they informed us that the popcorn machine has been broken for ten months... They also said they are usually closed, they are only open during major games, etc...No Schedule..
One of the valets got our car for us wearing a baseball cap and chewing gum. They charge an enormous amount for a room, but don't provide any level of service to support it. Very Poor on all accounts! Our room was 550. for two nights and it was one very frustrating weekend! Thanks for making it a great experience! Not!
