I would like to give a shout out to Jose at the dfw dollar rental and Kenneth at rental return. I booked for 6:00 pm pickup on Thursday the 29th but was able to arrive earlier. The woman helping me when I picked up the vehicle failed to mention at extra day charge because i was early. I returned the car September 2nd 3 hours before and that s when Jose suggested I talk to Kenneth and the extra charge was removed.

If you're wondering how they make money, here is how: you specifically and explicitly refuse ALL additional options that you don't want and that they might charge (you know those irrealistically expensive useless options like an express toll pass for more than 100 dollars), and the employee sneaks it anyway on your final bill.
Conclusion : four phone calls and two emails to the customer service later (not counting two calls they were supposed to give back and did not), and Dollar is still hiding behind "administrative rules" to refuse to acknowledge the fact that one of their employees screwed me up.
So if you like a company that support scandalous employee behaviour and not customer satisfaction, go for it!

This is a good car rental. I was able to rent a vehicle without much of an effort outside of going online through a third-party. After signing up and receiving a good deal the hiccup came when the person behind the counter indicates I need an extra $200 deposit. I had to scramble to get this taken care of I did but it took a while. No one mentioned in any of their brochures that there will be a secure deposit, whether credit card or debit card. Oh sure you'll get it back after about a week and I am still waiting for them to release my money and its been a week.

Why would I buy insurance from them? I was in a hurry, had to use the bathroom and he took advantage of it. He said, No problem we are going to refund it when you come back. Simple as that. I had a rental car for a week for visiting family and driving around DT Forth Worth. When I picked up my rental I was unaware of how many toll roads their are around their being from out of state. I was not offered at pick up the chance to opt in to the toll pass option and later recieved a bill for $23.00 in tolls ( which of course I expected after driving around for a week), However, my bill also included $90.00 in administrative fees which i think is pretty crappy!! If you plan to keep the car for longer then a day or two I would suggest you ask about opting into the toll pass since they are not going to tell you about it when you pick up your car.

That was the worst experience I had with a car rental. The only positive thing that I can say is about the process of choosing car, fast and easy.
I booked my car in a package with spirit. When I arrived in LAX, I had to wait for half an hour for Dollar shuttles to take me to the store. All other companies picked up their costumers every minute, really every one minute one shuttle of other companies passed when some other costumers and I had to stay in cold weather for half an hour. The number of people increased so the waiting time at the store rose because of the congestion.
I had booked a small economy car because I was travelling alone. I tried to save my money for gas, also I crowded cities with huge traffic, the smaller car the better you can move and find a parking space. At the reception desk, they tried to sell another car (a larger one), gas saving option (if I paid $35 for two days rent, I did not have to return car with a full tank - not a good option for me), and the insurance. When I refused the recommendations, the receptionist became cold and changed his manner. He was not welcoming anymore. It was not a good experience for me.
They put $400 on hold on my credit card, and charged me $19 for tax and service ($9 state tax and $10 for services) which does not make sense when you prepay for car in a package. The other thing is about gas receipt. If you do not buy the gas option, you are required to show the receipt of gas that shows you refilled the tank within 10 miles from their store, otherwise they charge you a full tank, $25 at least, so odd.

The customer service agent I met that morning told me that the rental place does not recognize insurance purchased from third parties and that I will personally be liable for the car if anything happened. I agreed, having aready purchased Allianz's $9.00 a day collision insurance. I also had my personal car and driver insurance with me - full coverage. He went on to sell me insurance from Dollar. They had basic (like what I bought from Allianz) to i think full coverage. I declined. Here's the insult. He tells me to sign on the little credit card machine to confirm that I am being disobedient to the state of Texas by driving without liability insurance. What kind of dirty sales tactics is that? No where on the signed documents would you see such a phrase because it is dirty and disrespectful. He repeated this statement before he gave me the keys and my receipts. The worst experience I have ever had renting a car. I bought a package deal flight and car. When I got to the counter to get my car, they had all of these extra fees. I have full coverage insurance so I always do insurance through my personal insurance, Geico. They did not want me to do that. Made a big deal about Texas has Loss of Use, and if my insurance doesn't cover that I will have to pay. They had four additional taxes that was added to the bill, which totaled up to over $100. They also made a big deal about tolls. They have a weekly rate or a daily rate. I was told if I didn't get the toll deal I will be charged $15 per toll plus the price of toll. I was totally disgusted with this company. I will never rent from them again. My sister did the same package deal and was given Alamo, when she got to the counter her additional fees were under $50 dollars and they did not have any issues with toll. She was told she could buy the toll pass or just drive through and they will bill her later. Dollar Rent a Car told me they do not allow you to buy the toll pass, and they will not bill you later. I felt like they were ripping me off. With my package deal I already paid over $200 for the car and they were trying to add an additional $300 or more to my bill. I have been on the phone since Sunday after being charged for a key fob that we put in the lock box at 0300. Nobody can give me an answer as to what happened. I'm not even entirely sure they checked the right car in. Everything has been super shady, I've talked to 12 different people from 12 different countries. Finally they put me in direct contact with the Dallas location. I asked the lady for a direct number incase we got cut off, she said "we don't have a number here." Wait, what? She did get my phone number and reservation number and said they would check again and she would call me back, shortly after, she said it wouldn't be today and then hung up on me! Why would I want a key for a car 1000 miles away from me? Also, if they don't have the keys, how did they unlock it to scan it back in shortly after opening. Our reciept was emailed within 30 minutes of their "opening time". Since I don't have an extra $250 laying around, I will give them until Friday to resolve the issue or my bank will investigate this as fraud.

I've been trying to reach customer service for the past couple of weeks. Every time I call the customer service line states that it is experiencing system difficulties. I rented the car in Dallas on 6/4 for less than 24 hours and my bill should have been $62 but I was charged $383. I called the following Saturday and the representative told me that it would be resolved on Monday and the amount refunded to my credit card. To date, it has not been. Avoid Dollar.

I would highly recommend you to pay more and use another car rental company, I made my reservation using my Chase Ultimate Rewards points and this location charged my credit card AGAIN knowing that my trip had already been paid with points, when I called their corporate customer service the response was: you must contact the particular Dollar pick up location location to confirm whether you were double charged or not. Seems ridiculous to me. Then no one at the Dollar pick up location at DFW would pick up the phone. This experience alone would warrant the 1 Star rating, let alone having a 2:30pm reservation only to wait for 2 hours to finally get the car, the place had 2 employees and a line of about 20 people.

Employee takes it and says "you're good" and nothing else. I ask where is the shuttle? Without looking at me or pointing or anything she says, "Upstairs, across the way." Well they "forgot" to close me out. Had to put in a request to close it out and have my money returned. (Which will take 5-7 business days) on top of that, they didn't forget to charge me gas THAT I ALREADY FILLED UP! Wish I could give 0 stars!

If you aren't aware Dollar Rental Car is running a scam and charging people $15-25 Dollars per toll-booth that they go through while you rent their car. This is how they do it: They don't provide an electronic toll tag, instead they rely on the "photo of the license plate" method. So, Instead of charging you for the toll when you turn the car in, you get a bill in the mail with the cost of the toll (0.81 cents in my case) plus $15 PER TOLL. You as the renter have NO opportunity to pay the toll, because it goes direct to dollar and then you get a bill a month later with all of the admin fees. Google "Dollar Rental Fine" there is a class action lawsuit against Dollar, and all sorts of scam warnings out there. Terrible company, never do business with them. Warn your friends.

Multiple fraudulent charges for a one day compact car rental totaling nearly $600! I'm still working with my bank to resolve issues. I rented a car which had engine problems and required a tow, they offered no replacement vehicle and I was on my own for transportation. Luckily I was able to get a ride to the airport by the tow truck driver. I would not recommend anyone rent from them, they are dishonest in their business practices with very poor customer service. On hold for more than one hour with their road side assistance, then another hour wait for the tow, almost missed my flight. They seem to have a long history of fraudulent business practices.

If you go through a toll in a Dollar Rent a Car...even if the vehicle has the appropriate Toll Pass on the windshield, Dollar will not just hit your card for the $4.70 toll, they charged an administration fee charge of $60, for a total of $64.70. Essentially Dollar charged me the equivalent of two days car rental to process my toll fee of $4.70.

My flight was cancelled coming in to DFW. I called Dollar twice to confirm my arrival, and two different reps assured that my prepaid reservation would be held for 48 hours. When I arrived, the counter agent told me they had no cars and had never heard of such a policy. She offered no solution other than for me to try to get my reservation refunded. After the manager finally "found" a car (which the counter agent assured me didn't exist), it was a significant downgrade from the vehicle I'd reserved, and it came with all kinds of extra charges and fees (and no gas cap). When I returned the car 90 minutes before schedule, I was billed for more fees with no explanation.

Was charged for insurance worth more than twice the cost of the rental ($36 extra per day for the lowest tier insurance) and the agent lied about the charge. The car didn't even have a full tank. The customer service call center is nearly worthless, they can't resolve any issues. Customer service said we had to drive back to the airport to try to resolve the issue because there is no way to call directly to the agents. Best the agent could offer was a $40 credit for the day, and we canceled the absurd insurance. The new receipt had a full tank listed so the agent had to manually write in the gas amount.
The other agent was watching the football game when a customer approached the counter to return a vehicle and was told to bring the car downstairs. Only after the customer became extremely upset did the agent agree to get the car.
If for whatever reason you rent with Dollar, make sure you're getting charged the correct amount. Otherwise stick with Enterprise. I would not recommend Dollar to anyone. If Dollar was the only rental company with vehicles available, I'd call an Uber or a cab for my trip.

I booked online and chose to pay a VOLUNTARY amount to reserve the car. When I got to the counter I was denied due to my credit even though I offered to pay the full rental amount plus the extra amount they wanted in case of damages etc. They refused to refund my voluntary payment and I was told to call the 800 customer service number for a refund. So then I walked to ALAMO (who was fantastic! Easy, kind, no hassle with credit or extra money holds). Later when I called for my refund they told me the terms and conditions I agreed to online stated no refunds and rudely hung up on me multiple times. After further investigation I found out Dollar Rental uses a separate company OUTSIDE THE USA to take payments (what the hell??). On top of that, I read over the terms and nowhere did it state I would be denied a refund if my credit was unsatisfactory. I was furious and reported them to the Better Business Bureau and eventually got my refund. Avoid this company who outsources their labor and has a foreign country handle your money.

Asked for GPS and Plate Pass for tolls. Received a Garmin which I could have done as I was expecting a car with an GPS system in it as they do have cars of this year. Didn't even have a Plate Pass as I went thru cash and credit tolls just in case and had to pay with my own money which was a big disappointment as I was paying a daily fee for the Plate Pass. Only good thing was that I had a brand new car from this year that's about it.

They only have one drop off point-but still ask you where you plan to drop off car, if you only have ONE (1) location to drop off why even ask??? I rented a car this weekend and though they didnt have the car I wanted, they upgraded my vehicle. I finiahed my trip a bit early, so I turned in my rental about 4 hours ahead of schedule. After i completed the return, i soon realized I had left the keys to my personal vehicle back at my house and I needed to run home and get them (about a 25 minute drive). They called a manager to see if they could help, but they qould not allow me to use the remaining time on my rental. They did offer a decent 1 day rental rate, which I reluctantly agreed to. I turned that rental in 1 hour and 15 minute before my original rental was due. It was my mistake, but I wish they would have offered a bit more assistance.
Though they did not leave a number for me to contact. I was able to get in touch with someone in the billing department at the corporate office. This clearly was not her responsibilty, but she listened intently, empathized and ended up refunding me completely for the second rental. I don't recall her name, but she more than made up for the situation.

This is my experience. I rented dollar rental car in November this year and its been two months.
I haven't recievd misclleneous charges for toll charges like others mentioned.
I paid plate pass 20$ ahead for two days toll charges .
Platepass is third party and dollar cannot tell how much platepass charges dollar customers
Funny thing is platepass don't even recognize dollar customers..only Hertz and autonation and others.
So it's been 3 months and I am worried till today if the platepass going to surprise charge me or send bills.
Anyway I am avoiding dollar rental and going back to Enterprise.

Picking up the car I was Met with a very friendly and helpful counter staff member who was able to share tips on how to avoid toll roads. I rented The 2019 Camaro SS and it was literally brand new with only 463 miles on it.
Upon returning my rental, again met with very friendly staff. I then proceeded to the airport to realize that I had left a newly purchased item in the backseat (my bad). Rushed back to rental car place to have even more friendly people go out of their way to help find my item. Well done!

I booked a Suburban or similar size vehicle 4 months early. A few days before the pick-up, we called with a simple question and were told they don t ever have that size vehicle. Why did they even allow us to book it then???? The agent looked at our region and never found a vehicle. We ended up having to cancel and going with another company for an extra $200. If I could give negative stars I would, very rude staff, not helpful and the estimated charge of 60 dollars of fees and taxes went to 150 plus another 200 for underage fees and toll fees. I would never rent from them again. Car was crappy and not clean and did not have a full tank and was told I return with a full tank or else!!. It amazes me this plus is still around. And also it sure seems like a 3.6 rating is high? Sure looks like a lot of fake reviews.

Charged me for 400 miles when online it says the car rental had unlimited mileage. I ended up paying an additional 140.00 after I booked through Hotwire and paid 95.00 online before I got there. So what I though was gonna be under $100 turned into $250 because of their hidden fees.

No line, friendly agent, received a brand new full size SUV (11 miles on it). 7 seats, in wasn t expecting that, excellent experience. Shuttle was there and all to ourselves on the way back to airport. Traveled 2nd week of September and home on a Sunday. Could t get any better and no surprise charges on my cc statement.
