So on Sunday 3-31-19 at approximately 0300hrs I accidentally pulled into Avis drop off at DFW AP, the security guard waved me to park my vehicle up. In attempt to advise him I was at wrong location he stated I could not move the vehicle and to place the vehicle keys on dash. Now please keep in mind that I'm a disabled Veteran escorting an 82 year old when we explained to security guard the fact that she cannot be walking far he apologized but still refused to allow us to take the car to the correct drop off which was Dollar Rental. He said he would notify Dollar. I then called Dollar explained the situation and called Avis to ensure the car was sent to Dollar. Well needless to say I got the run around on day 3 from both locations. This is disheartening that this is the way they treat Disabled Veterans here. Now my flight left DFW AP at 0520hrs and they have cameras at airport showing I dropped vehicle off. Yet Dollar Rental refuses to refund me from date of drop off and Avis refuses to show them proof of time and date of drop off. I will never rent from either company and will take this to court. Not to mention notify Security company regarding this issue!

DON"T RENT FROM DOLLAR DFW!!

DON"T RENT FROM DOLLAR DFW!!
I wish I had read reviews of this place before renting from them. I rented a car for two days and when I returned the car after hours, I could not find the dropbox so I gave the key at the counter. I even asked the woman if she needed a copy of my contract or the sleeve where I had written the odometer reading but she said it was not required.

I never got the receipt in my email. It was only when I checked my credit card statement that I realized that I had been billed $232 as opposed to $50 as per my contract! I called Dollar and they said that they had billed me for 3 days at a $60 per rate because 1. I got an SUV (a bigger car than my original reservation - they didn't have any compacts available so the man at the garage told me that I could take ANY SUV) and 2. when you return rental cars at Dollar after-hours, they literally charge you until they open the freakin' box, NOT when you return the car.

While speaking to the representative, I realized that I literally took the same car stated (an SUV) on my contract (Thank the Lord!!) while the woman on the phone tried bluffing and telling me that she changed that on her end (attaching the picture of the contract that I have) a week after I rented the car. Yeah, right! She said that as "one time courtesy" she will refund me my money and I told her that there won't be a next time because I am never renting from Dollar again!

Please don't rent from them. I literally rent cars every month and have never ran into this issue. They are scammers and will lure you through Kayak and Expedia etc. with lower rates but don't fall for it!

They charge $15 per passing tolls as "administrative fees".
Also forced me to purchase damage waiver, even though I already had it, because it was bundled with their LIS offering.
The employees working there are nice and understanding people though.

The service desk agents are great but the chick that was at the booth to help you with getting your rental was very rude. She has very bad customer service skills. DID NOT LIKE HER ATTITUDE AT ALL.

Was very skeptical after reading previous reviews. I am happy to report my experience with dollar was five star. I was upfront while taking the car what I need and what I don t. Front desk person and the attendant at the lot were very professional and honored the upfront pricing with surprises. Definitely will rent again.

Great car. No problems. Served my needs exactly. ....

Great car. No problems. Served my needs exactly. .....but.....the added fees are a bit rediculous. Rented a Toyota Sienna minivan for 17 days to make a trip in. Here's the details:

Rent 2 wks @ $259.96/wk = $519.92
Rent 3 days @ $35.99/day = $107.97
I had Promo coupon = $188.37 (-)
TOTAL. = $439.52

So......$439.52 sounds pretty good, right? (Here come the fees).....

Concession fee recovery? $48.83
CFC & BUS ? $110.50
Vehicle license cost recovery $31.28
Tax...15%!!! On taxable $630.13. = $94.52

For a grand total of .....$724.65 !!!

So my rental of $439.52 turned into a rental of $724.65 because of fees. That's just $6 shy of $300 added to the bill! 3/4 of the initial cost of it! What's the deal with 15% tax? Why isn't it 8.25%?

This extra fees part just flat out stinks.

If I could give this zero stars I would. I picked up a car yesterday at DFW, got to where I was going and today 12/18/16, I can't get the car to start, battery is dead, I didn't leave any lights on. I called the roadside assistance first and was told that, "unfortunately I can't get a hold of any of our members who would be able to jump the car, however there is a secondary company we use but it will cost you $79.99 to have them come out to do that." I obviously am not okay with paying that because I thought I was already paying for a WORKING car. So now I've been on hold for almost 45 minutes to talk to someone else, I'm tired of the run around. I will never rent from them again nor do I recommend anyone else doing so.

*Update* After using my own AAA to jump my car, who stated that the battery needed to be replaced (shocking right?), it worked for 1 drive and then died again. I have called Dollar again (several times actually w/ a lot of run around from them) to have someone come out and was told the same thing, $79.99 for a jump. Absolutely not! I ended up having to call my travel agent to get anything done, she called them, then Dollar called me saying they were going to send another car, in which I said no because I'm headed back to the airport to leave (when the car wouldn't start) and don't want another car. Now they're sending a tow truck to come get this car. Hopefully they come in a timely manner so that I can make my flight, thankfully I decided to do this hours in advance but I still worry because obviously Dollar isn't very quick, efficient or friendly.

In the past month I've needed a rental twice. The forest time I used third party app and was attracted to Dollar's low prices but there is so much more.
I was assisted by a wonderful group of staff members that were very helpful and informative. (I learned I could use my own toll tag account by simply adding the car to an unused sticker on my account .) I'm an Army Veteran so I was offered perks which were appreciated and my USAA VISA saves me money on the deposit end!

Once I finished my paperwork I was directed outside to the garage to select the vehicle I wanted in the class I selected! There were many great choices and all were very clean.

The return process is the most simple I've ever experienced. It takes about 5 mins to complete and you're on your way!

So of course when I had to rent a van to take my family to GA for a funeral dollar was my first choice. I booked directly from their site and still got a very good price and learned that I do like mini vans, well the Pacifica was nice!

I'll continue doing business with dollar!

I'm just an average customer like everyone else who is reading this post. However, this is an honest review out of our actual experience at this facility. We booked with Hotwire and paid all cost prior to arrival. Upon checking out the car, we were told that the company, aka Dollar Rent-a-car had no records of our payment to Hotwire for the reservation, so they made us pay again at the counter. Needing a car badly, we went ahead and slid our credit card to pay, thinking we could talk to Hotwire afterwards. Nope, nobody refunded us the double charge. I guess the joke is on us. I'll be giving this company a call to see what they had to say. Seriously, save yourself a headache and reserve your auto rental somewhere else.

Warning....Dollar charges a $15 administrative fee for every toll that your rental car incurs. A month after we visited the DFW area, we received a bill from Dollar Rental Fines. Apparently, we accidentally drove onto a ramp or bridge at 1:00 am which had a $1.35 toll. Dollar is charging us $16.35 to cover that unintentional mistake. What a rip off!! Their invoice states the good news....."as a customer courtesy, your Rental Agreement will only incur a maximum of seven administrative fees". That's a $105 courtesy! Thank you Dollar! Be sure to avoid every toll or traffic violation or find a different rental agency!!!

Worst car rental experience in DFW, I am a local resident in Dallas Fort Worth area, and have rented cars, and trucks with other companies. My rental experiences with others companies was a little more expensive but was handled professionally with Thrifty / Dollar / Car Hire / Car Trawler this was not the case, stay away from Thrifty, Dollar, CarHire, and Cartrawler, hidden charges you won't find out about until you are at the counter. Don't Buy Online, I will never do business with, or recommend these folks to anyone.

Ok, but was very disappointed that when I turned my car in a day early I had to pay a $25 extra change fee? does not make sense to me, should have had a $25 decrease from Dollar as they had the car for the extra day?

I love renting from Dollar. While everyone else asks for a $200 deposit, Dollar doesn't. They may hold an additional $10-$15 for deposit but not as much as the other rental car companies. I love the fact that I get to choose which vehicle I want and many cars that they have are great on gas. Hands down, I would recommend this rental car company to anyone. Thanks Dollar!!

Better than Sixt!!!

Better than Sixt!!!
My car was clean, great on gas! The toll package was reasonable and well worth it! The employees were very friendly! The gas option was nice, the air conditioner needed some work. Definitely recommend this company and will use them again!

Never seen bad customer service in my life. I'm a traveler always use rental car unfortunately I reserved with dollars, but after they took my dollar. Nobody was there. Imagine the inconveniences. Safe your money and save your time by keeping yourself from the scammer.

I didn't want to use Dollar, but was tricked by Hotwires deceptive practices, and my initial thoughts were justified. One server and a line of 8 customers waiting for service. Considering that Dollar is a part of Hertz you would be forgiven for expecting more. Basically, unless you have a LOT of time to spare, choose a different car rental company. This one doesn't deserve your business.

The close at 10 pm and you will be without ride if you or your flight reach there after 10.
They won't accept automatic renewed licence even though the DMV has renewed it in Circular on their website. Bad service.

Can confirm the toll charge related reviews below. They charge $15 extra per toll as the "administration" fee when each toll costs less than $2 (4 toll charges = $60). The toll bill comes about 3-4 weeks after your trip and their policies/prices aren't well explained. Front desk employees need to be more transparent about what is best for the customers.

Maybe this is the company strategy to lure customers with the lowest upfront prices, and then making up more than the difference through the extra fees. This is a very poor business tactic as they will eventually lose out their returning customers. I will be shopping strictly through Enterprise owned companies (National & Alamo) and staying away from Hertz owned branches (Dollar & Thrifty).

I rent cars extensively, and have always enjoyed dealing with Dollar rent a car. However, the customer service at DFW is beyond horrible. I asked for a car seat for my child and the agent set it on the ground, pointed to a line of cars and walked away. I found the car and could not get the seat attached. The agent said that he could not advise me for liability reasons......but, hey, I could go to a fire dept. for help. It is ridiculous that they are giving me a piece of safety equipment without anyone trained to show me how to use it. Even if it is a liability issue, the agent made no effort whatsoever....and just shrugged and walked off. I have dealt with other rental companies in the past who were more than happy to assist me. I went inside to ask for the manager.......but I think she was hiding, as I sat there for 30 minutes being ignored. For the last 15 years, I have rented cars for about 100 days each year. This is far and away the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

I rent with Dollar faithfully. After an unfortunate event, I needed to extend my rental. I m a 23 year old who travels often for work & leisure. At the time I was on the phone working on the extension, I was told I would have to pay my rate, underage fee (more than my car rate to begin with), and another fee for extending over the phone. I asked since I was already paying over $100 in underage fees if the company who was already getting a few hundred dollars out of me could excuse the $35 underage fee for just 1 day....not the whole rental, just the last day. I had a Chrysler 300 at $30 a day, $35 a day underage fee.

I didn t get a thank you for renting with us for years Mr Gordon or a let me see what we can do for you their response was it s there, it s set, there s nothing we can do. The customer service representative lied and said that the fee could only be waived at the local office, she transferred me to the DFW counter only for (Mario) who was supposed to be the Manager at the location to tell me he would call me back about a solution and NEVER did. I could see if I was just some random off the street, but I m an Express Member who has been renting with this location for years and the 1 time, the 1 time I need the company to actually do me a favor so I don t go over my budget in outrageous fees......they leave me hanging. It s a shame on Dollars Customer Service.

Aside from the chaotic locations and directions to pickup and return, the rest of the experience was good. I'm giving 5 stars because I left $220 in the car, and didn't realize it until 2 days later. It was returned to the lost and found and I was contacted promptly. The lady at the office was great.

Not good business. YOU ALL must be informed how Dollar operates!!!
The agent was not very truthful with us. We informed her that we would be using tollways. She instructed us to proceed and pay for the tolls when we drop the rental off. We did exactly that and the guy who checked us in said that the tolls and fees will be added in when my credit card goes through.
THEN.... 3 months later, a bill for $66.37 arrived in our mail. We paid that bill just because we were frustrated.
NOW TODAY, 6 months later, a new bill for $18.18 arrived in our mail today for tollway fees and Administration fees.
TERRIBLE BUSINESS DOLLAR RENTAL CAR!!
Do we dare pay this new bill? Will Bills keep showing up?
Will Dollar get away with bad business? Do we get taken advantage of?
Shame, shame, shame on Dollar.

Do not rent from this company. Their employees are incentivized to sign you up for extra fees you don t need but make it seem like you do need them. They will fail to tell you your insurance covers the car, ask if you want full coverage, and still charge you $32 a day when you say no. I already have car insurance. The paper they give you where you select the insurance coverage you want doesn t have an option for existing coverage from personal policy . The extra Loss Damage Waiver charge came out to $127.96 at $31.99. They also tax the insurance at 20% so our bill was 40% higher than advertised. I did some research and this company has been sued in the past for the same shady practices. I asked them to remove the charge if I could provide proof of insurance and they offered a Good Will 10% discount on my next rental as if I would ever rent from them again. The representative I talked to after 6 layers of phone menus said I signed the contract though they didn t give me a copy to refer to. I m disputing the charge with my credit card company.

The rental process was seamless although selection for the type of car I rented was sparse. When reviewing my options for refueling, I pre-purchased the full tank of gas. Unbeknownst to me, there are 3 gas stations less than 2 miles from the rental agency. The agent never made mention of that fact, I feel purposely for the sole benefit of Dollar Rent-A-Car. So to anyone reading this, just know that you can refuel your vehicle at those conveniently located stations on your way back to Dollar. Other than that, it was a great & affordable experience

This has got to be one of least professional and shabbiest rental car businesses in the market! I reserved on priceline for 123.00 for a 5 day rental. When I arrived I was told the best that could be done for me was 608 dollars! When I told her what I reserved it for she then told me the best she could do was 220 dollars. Smh... So I went ahead and paid the 220, kept it the 5 days, and returned it on time according to my reservation. The next day they ran my card again for an extra 63 dollars saying I brought the car back 2 hours late. When I called to dispute this I was told I'd only be refunded 38 of that 63 dollars even though it was their fault I was overcharged! The lady refused to allow me to speak to her manager! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Turns out that they're called "dollar rent a car" because that's what they want to do: extract every dollar from you when you rent a car.
Not sure why they don't change their name to "Nickel and Dime the Customers" Car, but maybe that isn't as catchy.

UPDATE: I also just got a bill in the mail for the tolls. At the desk they asked if I wanted a toll pass. I said no since I assumed paying individual tolls would be cheaper than a flat daily toll charge. They did not tell me each toll paid by Dollar for me also incurs a $15 ADMINISTRATION FEE. SERIOUSLY!!!! $300 in fees for $25 in tolls minus an oh so lovely $200 fee discount. So still $100 in fees.
Losing faith in humanity here...

Beware. Pleasant front desk person will a.) ask if you want full coverage or basic. i didn't want to pay any extra than the $104 I paid on Hotwire, and, my Chase credit card already provides full coverage so I said just basic. Assuming that meant whatever was included in the $104. NOPE! Without even telling me they charge me for $85 extra. Great. And b.) will ask if you want to bring it back empty or have them fill it up for you for $2.85 a gallon (or current price). Without mentioning they charge you for the full tank NO MATTER how much gas is left when you bring it back. Unreal, guys. The dishonesty is gross. Not gonna bother calling and complaining, I'm sure a place like this isn't going to refund anything. First time using and Dollar, and, will never choose Dollar again regardless of where I'm travelling.

Quick in and out, love that I can see all the cars and select car I want, I have gotten in several cars to see if I like them, much better then associate picking one for me. Staff are so nice and helpful.

I'll start by saying that I've never posted a review in my life. I'm compelled to do so because I've been working with Dollar Rental Car for the past month to resolve an issue with a toll charge. I've experienced the worst customer service of my life, in fact, there has been no customer service even after speaking with the corporate office in Oklahoma. I'm not willing to have my credit impacted by a substandard company who has no regard for good customer service whatsoever. So, I'm going to pay this fraudulent toll charge, but say that my personal experience has been terrible. I've been transferred all over the place and told my two people that "a supervisor will call you right away". I sit here today a month later with no calls at all. I've served in our military for 30 years and as a manager I can say that this company has lost the importance of customer service resulting in repeat business.

I would have like to leave a better recommendation for Dollar Rental because the rep was so pleasant but I was charged a full tank of gas when I only used half quarter tank. It was definitely apparent that if you choose the pre-paid fuel option for gas that the company is not offering it out of convenience for their customer but a means to meet there bottom line.

Car was excellent, but the policy for certain things i didn't like. The $350 of deposit is insane, also if you want to use toll you have to pay $68 a week. If not is $15 each time you use it, like really...

Other than that, the customer service was very good at the DFW airport. But will stick with Avis.

I have rented a lot from Dollar over the last 3 years. I travel every week. Some of the dollar franchises are easier to deal with than others. Most of the corporate owned rental agencies are OK.
The prices they charge sometimes, due to demand, can be ridiculous. Even as an express member.
DFWs issue is returning the car. It's way south of the airport, so if your going to drop the car make sure you have plenty of time.

Worst rental company I've dealt with, I will never use this company again and will tell everyone renting cars to not bother with them. They will try to scam you in every way possible. They make you fill vehicle within a few miles and bring the receipt in for proof. Otherwise they charge you $10 a gallon. If you get in an accident they will charge you, regardless if it's your fault, full rental fee for every day the car is in the shop. Thank God I never have to deal with this scum business again.

Car was clean and customer service was great. Rental car companies are often very pushy about their extra insurance. They offered, but didn t press the point. Pickup and drop off was smooth. I accidentally booked a day extra and Omar was very nice and took off the early drop off fee.
