Having an opportunity to enjoy our new composite deck, my wife and I would like to express our thanks to Norie Christian (Completely Custom Carpentry), who did an incredible job. It looks great and anyone who sees it says Wow ! We would like to say that anyone considering a deck would not find a better craftsman than Norie Christian!

I've never had the experience of someone in a business trying NOT to sell me something. I damaged an area on my deck and needed to replace 2 pieces of decking. The manufacturer of the original product is no longer in business so I need to find something that matched - or at least was close. I had a scrap of the original planking and went to the store. First I was told the width was wrong. If it was the difference was 1/16 of an inch or less. Then it was too thick (wrong again). Finally the salesman suggested that a particular colour (medium brown) would match my sample (sand color). There was a sample in the display which was almost an exact match for my sample. Finally I had to tell the salesman that I was going to take such and such a product in such and such a colour and how much. If I hadn't been desperate, I would have walked out the door and gone elsewhere.

I have own a small company in which we had a high end deck to do for a client of ours (30000 in decking materials). We received our first order no problem. Our second order took nearly 3 months to get to us. The Deck Store Edmonton wouldn't call us with updates, or try to go about finding alternate solutions. In the end, we received part of our 2nd order. We were refunded (surprisingly) for the part that they could not provide due to the fact that their account was on hold with the wholesaler. Needless to say we got in touch with another company similar to the Deck Store and we had our material within 2 days. Lesson Learned= Go with anyone but the deck store, their customer service is very lacking and they don't seem to value your business. They get 2 stars because they got our first order to us at least and they refunded us what they couldn't come through on.

Replacing a deck with composite boards.
I found a wide range of options and price points that met my needs.

With helpful, knowledgeable and friendly service it made my deck purchase easy and carefree.
No need to shop around this is definitely the place to come.

I purchased a Fiberon PVC deck package from them that was estimated by one of their staff, who was no longer working there a month after purchase. Over the course of the summer I constructed my deck and started to realize that I was sold boards for certain locations that could have been shorter boards to reduce waste. Luckily, some of my boards were back ordered and I was able to adjust some of the boards accordingly. However, I was also left with 3-4 boxes of specialty screws that I also did not need and still a number of boards.

Their return policy was clearly stated upfront as is their disclaimer of responsibility over material estimates. As it took me a few months until I fully realized what was left over, they did not take the product back. I can understand not wanting to take boards back that would likely have to be stored outside and there are no guarantees that I kept the boards in good condition. What I disagreed with was not taking back approximately 400$ worth of screws in only 4 boxes. I would have already had to pay a 15% restocking fee anyway, and the screws were in mint condition. They were also generic to any deck colour.

If you go here, make sure you do the estimate yourself and estimate carefully. Also, though this place caters to do it yourself, if you plan on taking an extended amount of time to complete your project, go somewhere with a more forgiving return policy. The materials they sell are good products, but if you make a mistake, you will likely be on your own once the return window passes.

UPDATE: Thanks to Warren who was able to get my extra small hardware back and save me some money. I have changed my rating to a bit higher than original. I do stand by my statements regarding making sure the estimate is accurate before buying, especially if you will not be finished within their return window. At the end of the day, the product they sell was good quality, they did help out a lot with estimating and planning, and, most importantly, the deck looks great.

The Edmonton store has good displays but the customer service is terrible. Poor response time and The quotes are not accurate.
The store Ordered the material required. When I picked up deck supplies There was an error in quantity then a problem due to backorder. After three trips to the store my contractor went to another job!

I stopped by June 4th around 4:30 to get a quote for my deck, I came in with heights and dimensions and gave my layout to Zoe Ayouka. She told me based on my layout she would tweek it to how they would build it and provide a material quote. I was told I was 4th in line for a quote and I would have something June 7th. Nothing! So I called June 11th and Zoe was busy so I left a message with whom ever answered for her to call me. June 13th and nothing. I tried giving the deck store a chance even though the negative reviews I read prior to going in. As a business owner myself I know that situations arise and its difficult making everyone happy, but I cannot wait god knows how long to enjoy my deck this summer. If its starts out bad, it never ends well and I believe a lot of these reviews. Sorry Deck Store, You just lost a $10,000 material order.

Purchased all my decking material through the store manager. I have never received such terrible customer service in my life. Never replied to one email that was sent. And talks down to you as if you owe him something. Expected 10 times better customer service especially from the manager. Other associates I dealt with were friendly but still never received anything close to the associates customer service from the manager. Will not be back ever again.

Attention: Mr. Jim Slater, Owner, The Deck Store, Edmonton.
Mr. Slater, my wife and I, wish to write this review thanking your Sales Manager, Warren McLeod, for the excellent customer service that he displayed to us on every occasion that we had to deal with him, in person and over the telephone, and which led to us building a very large deck at our home in Riverbend.
During the past several years, we have been visiting the Deck Store reviewing the many types of products and deck models that you have in the store. On almost every occasion, no one would come up to us and ask if we needed any assistance. However, earlier this summer on another visit to your store, Warren came up to us, said hello, and started talking with us. He took us into his office, and from thereon, we started an excellent business relationship with him. We told him what we were looking for and left our deck measurements with him. He told us that he would sent out a recommended contractor, Norie, to our home where he would verify the measurements and also answer any questions we may have. We had many meetings with Warren at his office, sometimes going well beyond the 6:00 pm closing time, but not once did he complain that we were taking up too much of his time. His calming demeanor, great attitude, excellent knowledge of the products, and pleasant mind-set are all characteristics of someone that will continue to bring customers back to your store. Not once did we feel rushed or pressured into purchasing any deck package. To Warren, the customer always came first, and we can now say that it was mainly due to him that we bought our first deck package from the Deck Store. Every morning as we look out our kitchen bay window, we see and admire a very beautiful deck. We were so happy with the customer service excellence we received from Warren and Norie, that we referred them to our neighbor, and our understanding is that they too purchased a deck package from your store.
Jim, in closing, you have an excellent employee in Warren, and in our view, he greatly contributes to the success of your business. We are proud to call him a friend. Thank you.

Good products, unreasonable return policy. If you plan on using the products right away - it's fine. If you're like most folks and buy the products in the spring so that you can work on it when you can - the 60 day return policy is a joke. They gave me more product than I needed - and then when I went to return it, the 60 days had passed. Ridiculous return policy for a seasonal product retailer.

We visited the deck store for a quote, provided some measurements to someone working there who then informed us in an incredibly condescending manner that he had over 75 quotes on his desk and it would be at least a week.

We said that was fine and waited to hear from them...three weeks later and nothing. They clearly have enough business so they don't need ours. We ended up going to a competitor who gave us a quote within the week.

Absolutely terrible service. I too had the same problem as the previous review. Was under estimated material costs, so my deck was $1300 more than the original quote. The service was terrible, it took over 2 weeks of phone calls before they finally did my quote and that was after I finally went to the store and sat down with them for the second time. Being from FT Sask, my delivery was $150, and they wanted to charge me twice for delivery even though it was their mistake I was short material. When my material was supposed to be delivered, I was told I was first priority that day and it would be here by 9:30am, at 1:30, still no material, so I called and was told I was pushed back because another order was pressing, even though I had to wait 2 weeks to have my stuff delivered. I still need to do railing and stairs for my deck, but I will go to another outfit and have my material special ordered from there rather than deal with this store again!!! Absolutely disgusted with the customer service.

We worked with Zoe at the Edmonton location and she was amazing! She was very knowledgeable! We decided to install the deck ourselves and she took the time to explain the process to us step by step giving us very helpful tips to ensure our project went smoothly! Anytime I emailed with a question I always got a very quick reply. She was very accommodating when I needed to come in to the store to do a final run through before we started our project. You can tell she genuinely cares that your project turns out amazing. Zoe did a perfect job calculating materials so we weren t purchasing items we didn t require. Zoe is wonderful and I would recommend asking for her when you go to the deck store to plan your project! The deck store is very lucky to have such an outstanding employee!

Norie Christian (Completely Custom Carpentry) did an amazing job on my deck! After reading reviews about him from The Deck Store website, I was eager to contact him. I called and spoke to Warren, who was very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions. He provided me with Norie's contact info. Norie was prompt to come give me an estimate, and promised to have the work completed before the snow. He dismantled and disposed of my 25yr old (nearly 400 sq ft) deck by himself in just under 4 hours!! He framed and built my new composite deck in under 1 week. My new deck looks amazing and everyone loves it! Norie is very hardworking and really made the effort to have my new deck in before the snow. He worked in the cold and got it done! I can't wait to enjoy it more this spring!!

you can definitely tell even by the "Responses from the Owner" That these people are so incredibly condescending and full of themselves. I just read the reviews of the Calgary store and same thing. This place seems like the staff and management don't really care about the customers or business. It blows my mind to read the stuff about the management. Thanks to these honest reviews, I will not be going to the Deck Store after all when It comes to anything to do with my deck. Its places like these that I am glad for Google reviews, they save me time and stress. Dear Deck Store, get your stuff in line. You just lost a potential customer because of how poorly you seem to treat the people who try to be your customers

We were very happy with our experience at the Edmonton Deck Store as I felt the staff treated everyone there as people as well as valued customers. The cedar was of the highest quality that I have ever worked with and the staff was accommodating throughout. Even though our sales rep ordered far more cedar than we needed, the deck store waved our restocking fee without any hassle. Many other lumber yards would have been extremely difficult in the same situation.

We stopped in to look at product and their sample decks on April 9th and had a very helpful meeting with Warren. He outlined the product lines and features and was generous with his time.
Further, at our request, he had suggestions for a contractor. After considering our job we selected Competely Custom Carpentry.
This was to be a decision that made our project a great experience. Norie Christian advanced this project by arriving early and leaving late. On top of that he worked though the weekend at the end to finish off.
His work and skill resulted in a showroom piece that we are very proud of. My wife and I have just added real value to our home.

Wish I listened to the poor reviews.... I was shopping around for decking materials to build my new deck. I had stopped in a few stores, the deck store being one of them. The sales person was knowledgeable and helped answer some questions and talk about my design plans. After shopping around a couple stores I was hoping to purchase from the deck store as they had been helpful and I felt they earned my business however their pricing was the highest of the 3 dealers i had talked to. I emailed my sales person and told them if they could match the price of the other store then I would be happy to purchase through them. They replied they were able to reduce the quote they had given me so they could earn my business, Great!, I thought! I went to the store the next day and paid for my order and set up delivery for the next week and they said they would email me my paperwork and some building specs later that day. That evening I got the email and was reviewing my invoice only to noticed that they had removed items off my original quote so they could cut hundreds of dollars off their invoice to match pricing from the other store. I emailed and phoned my sales person numerous times over the next day to inquire as to why items had been taken off without my knowledge or consent. I was able to finally get a hold of the owner who didn't seem to think that was bad business practice or anything wrong. I told him I wanted to cancel my order and no longer wanted to deal with them as I had lost confidence in how they do business he said I was terrible to deal with as I had shopped around for better pricing. ( i think everyone does that..?) at first he refused to cancel my order and issue me a refund and then after arguing with him for 10 mins about how removing items from an invoice after a sale is shady, he agreed to cancel my order but wanted to keep $300 for the work the sales person had done. I said that was not fair or honest and the reason I was cancelling was due to their poor dealings. I went to the store the following day to get my refund and the owner was not in. I spoke with the store manager who was under the impression the invoice was explained to me prior to payment being received and after learning about how things were handled he apologized and agreed it was poor customer service and should have been handled a different way. He said if it was him he would have refunded my amount as he agreed there shouldn't be any charges towards me for wanting to cancel the order after what had happened but the owner gave him specific instructions not to do so but now the amount had changed to $390 for "visa transaction fees". So at this point I am still out $390 after a very bad experience dealing with the deck store in Edmonton. Save your time and money and avoid this store!

The Deck Store goes above and beyond to make you happy. I have two experiences from the Deck Store: During my original purchase the staff at the Deck Store went out of their way to help me with a warranty claim that I had and now (5 years after my original purchase), Warren at the Deck Store went WAY beyond expectations to find me discontinued decking from a non-Deck Store source.... he helped me knowing that there would be no monetary benefit to him or to the Deck Store! THANK YOU WARREN! Customer service and competitive prices is why I would recommend the Deck Store to anyone.

We were past due needing to replace our 37 year old deck at the cottage. We sought information from the big box stores and only ended up confused. On entering The Deck Store we were presented with large displays of decks and materials. Warren patiently took us through the entire process and even recommended craftsman Norrie Christian who we hired as our builder. Within two weeks of placing our order, we have an absolutely fabulous new deck that we are very pleased with. Thank you to The Deck Store and a very special thank you to Sales Manager Warren McLeod.

I have nothing but good things to say about this s...

I have nothing but good things to say about this store.

I started my deck-building project this summer aiming to build over a 30-year old 'deck' built out of sidewalk paving stones in my backyard. I started by visiting home improvement stores and lumber yards thinking about how I would go about building a proper deck.

Since I would be building (and maintaining) this ground-level deck myself with a little help from my family, I decided that I would build it out of low- or no- maintenance materials (i.e pressure-treated wood for foundation and frame and composite/PVC materials for deck boards).

I also availed of the free deck-design software available online from several composite deck board suppliers.

So armed with a design that I wanted, I went to the home improvement stores and the Deck Store to request for a price quote for the materials package. The quotes came in within a reasonable price range and what made me decide to go with the Deck Store was the customer service that they provided me during the design, construction and wrap-up phases of the work.

The Sales Manager (Warren M.) helped me greatly throughout the execution of my deck construction project. He helped me improve my design by offering suggestions for the foundation (use of screw piles), framing and deck board layout and material selection. I ended up settling on using PVC (Wolf) for deck boards as I think they are the most durable material for the expected life of the deck.

In addition, I decided to install electrical wiring for extending power (110 VAC) to all corners of the deck, a DC power supply and remote controller for LED lighting under the deck edges and under-deck copper piping (to avoid stringing water hoses across the deck in the summer). These 'extras' added construction time to the project but I was able to complete it within 60 days.

Although the material estimate was fairly close to what I needed, I ended up with a few excess (unused) lumber and deck boards in the end. I had no trouble returning the materials to the store with no hassle at all. In addition, the store staff supplied me with a few extra deck screws to finish my project. Thanks a lot, Warren!

All in all, I would not hesitate recommending this store to anyone who wishes to build the best deck for their home or business. Great store and great staff.

I ordered my complete deck package and was told it would arrive the following Monday. It was then changed to Friday. When we called to confirm before pickup, we were told it would be another 3 weeks. When my contractor called to talk to management about the service, he was told that they would see what they could do and would call back in the morning. They never called and I left a message to have my salesman (Warren) call me and he never returned my call either. I ended up going with another company who honoured their service promises. I won't go back to the deck store.

This place has horrible customer service!!! 2 employees at the front counter were the worst I have in countered in a while.......talk about two decks!!!! I was going to drop a thousand buck on product from this place to finish my build I ended up walking out cause of the 2 deck employees and there attitude towards me. Lucky the didn't have there names on there shirts or the desk name would be publicly displayed here!!!
Spend your money elsewhere where customer service matters!!!!

After 25 years our cedar deck was starting to show its age and was in need of a complete rebuild. So rather than replace in-kind we decided to look at the options using a composite decking system. My wife found the Edmonton Deck Store on the internet and after looking through the big box stores we visited the Deck Store and we were glad we did.
The service and advice we received was excellent and so we went ahead and purchased the materials needed to replace the old cedar deck. Material delivery took ten days which worked out just right as I had to remove all the old cedar and install additional supports for the composite deck boards.
Re-Building the deck went exceptionally well, not only because the weather cooperated but also because of the excellent advise I had received from the Deck Store. I had never used this material before but the results were outstanding and we receive many positive comments including invitations to build decks for our friends. Not a chance!
If you're considering building a new deck or rebuilding an existing one we would highly recommend a visit to the Deck Store before you commit.
Cheers.

Let me share with you our experience with The Deck Store.
The moment we walked in the door Adrien politely scooped us off our feet and made us feel welcome. He showed us around and educated us with his vast knowledge of product and procedure. This guy knows his stuff.
Now armed with knowledge, we went home and did some pretty heavy balancing of need vrs. want vrs. afford. Adrien made that part clearer too. Very important.
Made our decision, contacted Adrien and he got us set up and the ball rolling. He has contacts and made all that pain-in-the-butt stuff so easy. He is a hands-on kinda guy who made sure things were being done right and kept us informed at every step from start to finish.
Which brings me to Paul. Paul is the carpenter who built our deck. Organized and efficient, kind, soft spoken and always willing to answer my pesky questions. Pauls craftsman ship is most impressive. He put in long, hard(and hot)hours and we are very happy with his work.
Adrien and Paul. We highly recommend them.

Horrible..pricing was ok but customer service and return calls are horrible. Original salesman Warren was very helpful and was good to work with but the overall experience was not professional at all. Wrong boards sent , and none in stock at store ..all off site 2 to 3 day delivery even thou their mistake. Boards of same make but different color are different thickness by over 1/16 of an inch very noticeable. Silver maple .960 to .975 rustic elm .915 to .925 had this been told to us we would have gone to proper thickness of material and selected a different color. The store stocks nothing but samples and was very unhappy with most of the rest of sales staff we dealt with. We dont write reviews as a rule but this was beyond not letting others know ahead of time. Nelson Lumber on St Albert Trail helped us out and was very close price wise but the experience there was way better and everyone there knew the product and was very knowledgeable .

We visited the Edmonton Deck Store to get some design ideas and costs. After a warm and friendly greeting from Warren, we had a lengthy conversation about today s deck building materials and building technology. We soon realized there was more to learn and do, than what we were prepared for. Warren was great in assessing our wants and needs. He recommended that we may want to get an experienced builder to help us with our project and strongly suggested Norie Christian. We found Norie to be a no nonsense, let s get the job done type of guy. He has a good work ethic, pays attention to detail, and is up to date with the latest building techniques and materials. During various stages of the building process, he made good suggestions that further enhanced the look of the deck.

If you want a nicely finished deck, done on time and on budget, you need to get Norie. We have planned a second deck project at another location and already booked Norie for mid May 2019

Was told 4 weeks for glass railings. Waited over 9 weeks. Only called on day they showed up otherwise I had to call multiple times in a row to get someone to answer. After finally receiving my order found out they shorted me on materials they provided. Find another store if you expect anything more than the worst customer experience of your life. Wish I could give zero stars to match the zero f*#ks they give

I went to this store after driving 30 min to reach them. Looking for some items they claim to have and found cold and rude stuff who doesn't show any care.
It wasn't worth it all that time and they don't have anything different than home depot to show you. Save your time

Not sure about others experiences, however I have not been disappointed with my Deck Store experience. Warren was very accommodating providing all sorts of samples to consider; we received good pricing on our materials and the follow-up discussions have all been helpful. Building a deck is a tricky project and I've found that they've made it fairly easy for someone building it themselves.

Cheers,

The product we purchased from the deck store is fa...

The product we purchased from the deck store is fantastic however the customer service we received was horrible. In June 2020 we went to the deck store and talked to the owner, gave him dimensions of our deck and gave him a list of the deck boards, railings, lights and screens we had picked out. He said to give him a couple days and he'd provide us a drawing along with a quote. We gave him a week and finally called in to see where our package was. We got a quote emailed to us within a couple hours, only giving us deck boards and no drawings. We go back to the store (2hr round trip) and tell him all the items he missed on the quote (fascia, screws, lights, railings, screen). He gave us a second quote which was still missing the fascia boards. He gave us a third quote with the fasica and what it would cost for the Deck Store to do our deck. We decided to do our deck and only buy materials. Unfortunately we didn't noticed he forgot to transfer the fasica board to the final quotes. And we didn't know till the railing arrived at the end of July that he forgot to give us railing for our stairs. The material was supposed to be at our house in 2 weeks. 4 weeks later we got the deck board...and only the deck board. Everything else came in piece meal over July, August, September and October and we had to go to the store to get it even though we paid to have everything delivered. There were no apologies for missing items on our quotes or making us drive multiple times when we paid for delivery. Further we inquired why our fasica board seemed to be popping and we were told that along with the special screws for the deck board there are different special screws for the fasica and they forgot to tell us about them and sell them to us. Throughout the 5 month process of getting our supplies it seems more than clear this store is only interested in serving customers who pay to have the deck store install. Buyer beware, once they have your money they don't care how long it takes for your items to come in and they don't care if they forgot something on a quote or forgot to tell you the special items you need to buy to build the deck on your own. Look at the other reviews, we're not the only ones that have had this problem. Do not purchase from this store, go elsewhere.

Google needs to add a "zero star" option. We hired a builder to do our deck, as it was a major project with a huge covered Timber Frame structure. The builder issued a PO for our Wolf composite decking material to the Deck Store on October 22, 2020 and paid up front for all of the material (+/- 800 sft) on December 4th, the date that the Deck Store said it would be arriving. We have checked constantly since December and the Deck Store kept giving excuses about why the material wasn't here (my guess is they never ordered it and used our money for other things - I understand supply chain timelines because I have a flooring business). The last we heard back in February 2021 was that it was supposed to be here on March 25-26. It's now March 30th and still zero communication from the Deck Store. Our builder sent Justin Hayes an email this morning asking about the material, as he was recently told that it was "on a truck, but didn't expect it to be here when we anticipated it". It is now the end of March, OVER SIX MONTHS since the order was placed and STILL NO MATERIAL. It's now spring and construction in our yard is going to tear up our lawn so now we will have extra landscaping to do as well. DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE GUYS!!!! There are other deck places in the Edmonton area. Find them, read their reviews and choose a different store.

Will not replace TREX deck lighting Photocell DOA since last July. Keep lying to me every week that it's 'next week' since July 28th. *NEVER* call me back, just waiting for me to 'go away' I guess, and honestly I'll probably do that. Big company, small customer, I guess I can go screw myself if I don't like it,

A great company, Adrian was honest and fair in his dealings with us. Paul who did the actual work was amazing. We had an old wooden deck with an uncertain frame. Both were torn out and the resulting new deck of composite is a valued asset to our back yard.

Zoe was very helpful with good advice and provided many different options for my deck. My situation was very unique as I was expanding my deck which originally had composite boards and I was trying to match or blend in with some new boards. Zoe also followed up with a phone call to see how I was making out.

We got a few privacy walls ordered from The Deck Store and the quality of these privacy walls is very high end. It might take a while to schedule the install, but once it s done it will be executed in a very professional and prompt manner.
Adrian and Paul did a great job installing these in just a few hours and followed up with us to ensure we were completely satisfied with the product and install. Their Customer Service is admirable!!

Just had a new hot tub installed and had an issue with a pad that had many different slopes. Warren spent lots of time assessing the proper materials required and the reasons for it. I decided to hire a contractor for the installation recommended by The Deck Store. Norie Christian of Completely Custom Carpentry did an amazing job and in record time my place was left clean. I would recommend both

Have been here twice now in the process of building a new deck. Have by far provided the best service and expertise of any place we have visited and we have been to their competitors. I think they get a bad rap for not having decking in stock which is beyond their control but if you want someone who will give you the advice you need to get your deck done right this is the place to go. Warren remembered us the second time eventhough we had been in the month before. I would highly recommend.

Our deck has just been completed so I can not say anything about problems that arise and how they are resolved. However, we have had nothing but perfect service from all involved with the purchase and installation of our amazing deck. It is exactly what we wanted and all the work is excellent. The installer, Paul, was kind and considerate and never rushed with his work but did an wonderful job. Adrian, the supervisor for the job was the same, checked every detail and we have not one complaint. Like I say, it has just been completed so we will see if we have any issues down the line but I have to believe they will stand behind their work. I am sorry others have had issues, that is not right. People need to be honest and take pride in their work. I'm trusting in you Deck Store and Contractor.

Bought a deck from these guys and when I placed my order the owner was very friendly and chatty, however when I called back after the deck was done to inform him that the deck was sagging in the middle and needed an extra support he scoffed at me over the phone and hung up.

I couldn't believe it, but then I remembered what the labourer had told me when I chatted with him while he was building the deck. He actually warned me about his own boss and said "these guys only care about the money. Once they've got your money they don't want anything to do with you". At first I thought he was just a disgruntled employee and didn't put too much stock into it, but now I know he wasn't exaggerating.

I would never give these guys another penny and I strongly advise everyone to stay away.

Worst experience ever. They miss half of parts in the price calculation and miss the deadline of delivery multiple times. We paid so much money to get stress and anxiety in return. If you want to pay extra and take a lot of stress in your life then they are good option to go with.

I was in the Edmonton store June 2nd. I had been there a year ago to ask questions and was impressed, this time I was ready to purchase so I came in with a drawing and list of what I needed, and was set on pressure treated for many reasons. I was dealing with the sales manager and he tried to upsell me to composite decking, which alone would cost more than my entire project. He would not give up on that. He also tried to sell me a lot of products I don't need like screw piles, and was very condescending about the fact that I'm an engineer.

He said I should expect a quote June 5th, and never have received one. The sales manager lost a sale and many referrals because he couldn't listen to what I wanted. I even had a rough cut list, so the quote was easy to do. I was dead set on buying from the deck store, but I will be purchasing from another store that has treated me like a human. Don't bother with The Deck Store. Believe the reviews.

UPDATE: After my initial review, the store manager contacted me and attempted to make it right. He eventually gave me a quote and offered a discount. In the end I was happy with his service, but still disappointed in the whole experience overall. Even with a discount, their product was more expensive than the store I finally decided to go with (and they treated me like a human from the start). I'd be willing to give The Deck Store another chance, but it depends who you get as an associate. I still don't like that they don't give you individual pricing on deck packages, they just give you a total price instead of breaking it down into a per-board or per-item price. This makes it very difficult to compare to the pricing from other stores. Overall, the deck store is fine, but for me there are better options around the city.

My twenty-five year old cedar deck needed some work so I spent a great deal of time looking at different products on line and reading on line reviews of a variety of decking materials, then went to The Deck store to take a look at the actual products themselves. We took a selection of their samples home and then my wife and I with the help of the Sales Manager (Warren) eventually chose Wolf decking. I provided a rough sketch of the deck with some measurements and was given a quote by Warren. When I returned with a more accurate sketch and sat down with Warren to fine tune the estimate it came out to be very accurate. I also ordered the Rain Escape system for my upper deck which turned out to be a great decision and made the area under my upper deck completly water proof. ( I have a bi-level so the area under the upper deck doubles as a storage area). I had a bit of an issue with attachment clips, which turned out to be not as advertised (they made holes in the decking boards). I took the issue to Warren and it was obvious to him that the clips were not working so he found new clips that worked. (This was not their issue as the manufacturer advertised that these clips would work for Wolf Decking). I still had nine boards that were damaged and with Warrens help we resolved this issue and I was provided replacement boards at no cost. (Thanks Warren). My renovation involved re-spacing the current joists from sixteen inch centers to twelve inch centers, which was real grunt work. I did manage to use some of the old joists but had to build a complicated outer edged to support the picture frame look. All my hard work turned out beautifly and the new deck is much sturdier (the twelve inch centers and the addition of more blocking) and has a fabulous look that I expect will last for the next twenty-five years without and more painting.

Our overall experience with The Deck Store in Edmo...

Our overall experience with The Deck Store in Edmonton has been nothing short of frustrating! We do NOT recommend this store for your decking needs!
We began to deal with The Deck Store in December 2018. Quickly we located the product we wanted and placed an order. Within a week or 2 we were advised the product we wanted was not available; the alternative would not be able to be brought in through the distributor until March 2019. We chose to wait as were in no real hurry at that time of year to complete the build.
However, come April 2019 we received no update. It took numerous emails and dozens of phone calls to speak with the Manager of the store we originally dealt with. Communication was extremely poor at best! Phone calls were not answered and rarely returned. When we did reach him with questions he never had answers and would take weeks and more contact on our behalf to get these answers. He never initiated contact and there were no timely responses. We received every excuse from unreliable distributors, lawsuits among brands, product changes, no tracking, wrong material sent, damaged product reordered, sent to wrong warehouse, etc. Every issue or excuse was used! Frustrated and furious are mild terms.
It was not until end of Sept 2019 we finally received our product. However, there were errors in our order; despite emails that clearly identified the product ordered. After frustrated phone calls on our part, The Deck Store did own up to their error and would order the correct product free of charge and we could exchange the product upon its arrival. It is now Jan 2020 and we still have not received the proper boards we ordered!! We have contacted the store numerous times per week and even per day trying to obtain a response from the Manager. He is never initially available to speak to us and then often does not return our calls. There is no follow-up on his part! No phone call by him or his office staff that our product ever arrived. Too many calls later we were finally advised the product had arrived but half our order was sold to someone else in error. Then no returned calls prior to the Christmas Holidays; now the product can no longer be obtained!!!!
We have lost all trust in this company! They are extremely unprofessional with complete disregard for public relations and communication skills. We just want our product and to be done with this company!!
We highly do NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone.

The service at the deck store was reasonable. We decided to have our deck built with one of their perfered vendors. The process turned out to be an unpleasant experience. The deck store needs to do a better job vetting their recomended vendors as it is a reflection on their own business.

My personal experience with The Deck Store looks to be somewhat different than what others have posted about it. It was a very good experience, with the understanding that they will review and make suggestions to my deck design and that they are only a supplier. I will note that I designed my deck myself before discussing with Warren at The Deck Store. In working with Warren for over a year, due to waiting for release of locked finances (not The Deck Store s fault in anyway), I was able to narrow my design down and ultimately be confident in the design to meet City of Edmonton safety requirements (as per City of Edmonton uncovered deck structural design minimum requirement information). Warren and I were able to narrow the material requirements to minimize the material waste and optimize the minimum cost to myself. This was done for various materials of the deck, such as: lag-bolts (ledger board to house), pressure treated wood, railing, deck boards, screws, etc. In the end, I had small amounts of composite deck board and pressure treated wood wastage. The deck design did pass city zoning bylaw requirements and the structure safety requirements and a permit was issued, which eventually lead to the deck passing inspection. I built the deck myself and am proud of it as it is a sizable raised, uncovered deck, and it looks stunning. I went all out on it from composite deck boards, extra wide stairs, fascia side covers, and even deck skirting. I got a lot of tips from Warren with using composite decking material for the first time, best way to cut it, etc. I guess the only issue that I did have was getting a hold of Warren; however, understanding that this is a supplier business that deals with customers daily, expecting his availability for me all the time is unreasonable. If I was unable to reach Warren through the phone, I tried via email and usually received something back within 24 hours. If I ever had an issue with the product, I was able to exchange it easily, pending stock of items and for the few items that I had missing on my delivery, I was able to quickly rectify with Warren after informing him of it and was able to do a quick exchange. Thank-you Deck Store and Warren for giving me the confidence in my deck design and the tips and tricks to construct the deck myself. The deck turned out spectacular.

I don't really ever write reviews, - but I have had a deck installed by the Deck Store, and it was a very large installation.
I am a business owner, - and if I had something wrong with my services, - I would want to do my best to make it right before I got to the point that someone had to write a review like this of a dis-appointment of services.
I have tried so many times over the past year to get someone to come out to our house to fix our lights that were installed on our deck and they have never worked properly from the beginning, - and have called in so many times to get someone to come and get them working, and it is never done.
We have a lot of dis-colouring on the product that was installed, and it was the most expensive brand, and no accountibility has been taken, and no help in any warranty or resolution. On installation, - we have 2- different lots of color over the deck, - you can see where one side of deck is one colour and the other side is another color. (Different dye lots or times of manufacturing - Different Stock). The owners of the Deck Store have ignored many attempts to try to get resolution to these concerns, - and have passed it on to their trademen, - but how can I put the owness on the tradesmen, - when they are hired and paid for by the Deck Store. I would like to get resolution to these concerns, and we built the deck for different events we were having last year - Our kids Gradulations, my wife's 50th Birthday Party, and my 50th Birthday Party, - and called well ahead of time to have the lights up and working for the party, - and it was promised and then ignored. I called the day before and the day of the events, - and said it would be looked into and this has been over a year ago, - and still nothing has been done. I just called today to ask again, - and they said they would look into this and call me back and I have a feeling I will not get any response. I just don't want anyone else to have this same experience, - because after you have paid your bill, - you don't really have anything to stand on to get them to come and fix any concerns.

We worked with the great crew at the Edmonton location. We were given a great education on the options during our first visit and they were patient with us as we took a couple of months to put together our plan for our new deck.
We shopped around town for pricing for materials and construction and The Deck Store gave us the best combination, and the peace of mind that one team was handling the planning, quoting, and construction (so no one blaming the other later on).
The carpenter that built our deck was very professional and friendly and we enjoyed having him in our back yard for the 3 weeks or so that construction took. Cleanup was done daily and nothing was left behind afterwards.
Everything was on schedule and there were no surprise cost changes. We made changes to some parts during construction and the process was quite simple to get those changes quoted and approved. We are extremely pleased with our new deck and definitely recommend this business.

Worst customer service I have ever seen. Dealt with Franz who did not order me the proper product, nor the right quantity. Called Franz to order more product and was told it would be delivered in a week. A week later we call for a status update but find out Franz no longer works there, nor was our product even ordered. Sp, we went in to the store to re order more. At that point, the manager?? started off the conversation saying that we were in the wrong for not knowing how much product to order in the first place. We never once "blamed" them, we were simply just trying to order more product. The manager then became confrontational and began yelling where eventually we just spoke to someone else to help us and were able to order what we came for. Afterwards, we tried ordering more again and received the wrong material. We call again and have to again wait another week to receive our material. The last straw is when we called for a status update just now and they decide they don't want our business anymore and decide to refund our entire order???? Okay that's fine, but for literally no reason other than the fact that we called for a status update since there is now snow on the ground is pretty stupid. This is the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with.
