My husband has been extremely happy with the food and service at Mackenzie Health! Someone always comes to ask what he would like for his meals and check to see how it was. We were so happy when he was offered foods that would help his recovery. Thanks you for making the positive experience! The food is delicious! Service is top notch.

I came in with excruciating chest pain earlier tod...
I came in with excruciating chest pain earlier today and while overcome with pain, I still managed to compose myself to answer all questions but the lack of compassion from both the nurses and doctor himself astounded me. In fact, the nurse completely disregarded me and continued on with the examination speaking with her fellow nurse as if I wasn t even there. On top of that, the doctor asked me if I thought I was having a heart attack and I replied honestly that I had no idea what it was to which he said well it s not as if I had been reinforcing that point. The doctor s attitude was quite rude and arrogant, continuous speaking at me but not to me, acting if my one or two clarification questions were the stupidest thoughts to come out of my mouth. Quite honestly I was quite upset with the treatment and the way I was being dismissed before inquiring about my symptoms. I asked him about the hospital s policy when I was leaving out of curiosity and his remarking attitude was so degrading that I was simply at lost, I abruptly turned on my heel and left. The only bright side being the lovely asian lady working in the pharmacy section, who even though I only interacted with for all of five minutes managed to turn my mood right around with her genuine attitude. I m only sharing my experience with you because I was baffled by the care I received for going to the nearest hospital to me and can attest to the fact that I was gladly travel twice as far to not go through what I had to today again. I hope you take this into consideration and look into your client care policies as there wasn t a single ounce of humanity or compassion in the care I received until five minutes before I left, and even my last memory of the doctor was absolutely shattering.

I have received service at Mackenzie for many years. broken bones, minor surgery, and currently, chemotherapy were the issues.
In every case I was treated in a timely professional manner, to my complete satisfaction.
For this facility to carry such a low rating is ridiculous.
May the dissenters have better luck elsewhere.

I was asking a question, politely, and the doctor snapped at me. I understand the doctors are very busy and she was with a sick patient but when a patient asks nicely if an x-ray was looked at, then there is no need to snap back rudely. Btw I was waiting for 4 hours so I believe it should be understood why I asked. I even apologized afterwards.

A BIG THUMBS DOWN TO THIS HOSPITAL. Very very disappointed at this hospital. Forget about wait it's super long at emergency 9-10 hours but to tell me that they can't find what's wrong with my dad is totally unacceptable. I believe!! not think!! that doctors at this hospital is new grads and have to Google search issues and come back to patients with same damn answers I read on google but don't know the actual cause. People dying of pain is treated as numbers and found staff very unpationate about their job and answers they give to poor patients in agony. I give this hospital a big zero.

My father had an appointment for a scan and we were specifically told to show up half an hour early for his appointment. We showed up half an hour early as per requested and ended up waiting for over an hour and a half.
It wasn't until after an hour of our scheduled appointment time that someone came out to inform us that they're currently running an hour behind. Not only did I waste time waiting for an appointment that should have been on time, I had to pay for an hour extra for parking.
I know it is not the staff's fault for the delay since unforeseen circumstances could happen. The thing is that if they knew there was a delay, the least they could have done was to contact the patients beforehand to let them know their appointments are behind scheduled.
The staff here are all friendly and warm but the level of organization and patient services here are definitely severely lacking . At this point in time if I had an emergency, I'd much rather youtube or Google a solution than to expect help from this hospital. As of this current moment I'd much rather kill myself than to wait any longer.

I had a fine experience checking into the hospital...
I had a fine experience checking into the hospital and getting my blood work done, the trouble started afterwards. When I was leaving, I was told my blood work would be send to my doctor once it was ready. The triage nurse took my doctors info when I was registering and the nurse who was my last point of contact confirmed this.
I was told results take 10 days typically to come in. Fast forward 3 weeks, my doctor still doesn't have the results. I called Mackenzie health today and asked the blood clinic if the results were ready, they said the results were ready, I asked why they haven't been sent to my doctor. Mackenzie health said they didn't have my doctor's info...which I gave to them during registration with Triage and they wrote it down. I gave the lady I spoke to my doctor's info and she asked for their fax #, which was not on my doctor's site, so I said I wasn't sure what it was, but I could call and check, she said they have one on record, so they'll use that. A few hours after, I called my doctor to check if they got the blood work yet, they said they still didn't. I called Mackenzie hospital again, the lady I spoke to now says she can't locate my name in the system.... so my experience has been confusing and frustrating overall. Seems like there is some disorganization there and that communication between departments is off. I am the one who has ended up chasing them down for things they said they'd do themselves.

I would like to take this chance to say thank you to Emergency room in Mackenzie Hospital . My son hit the back of his head and went to MH on Sunday morning. He got the initial check-up after 30 minutes of our our arrival. He is being taken care. Really appreciated for all the staff from triage, Emergency room, X-Ray room.

I had to visit ER on Monday Feb.26.2018 at around 7PM and after a short period of time i was confronted by a person who called herself Stephanie as a nurse and rudely told me that why i am not answering when my number is called. I politly said that i did not hear it due to a lots of noise in waiting area but she rolled her eyes and told me <<just seat there>> which at that point i told her i do not like to be treated that way and walked out and was checked and admited by another nurse who was very nice in room #2. pepole go to hospital when they need medical attention and the last thing they want is attitude from medical personnel specially from nurses who majority of them are like angels.

A definite positive experience.
This was my first experience at Mackenzie Health and I most definitely give it 5 stars. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed and offered help. The wayfinder app is great, but I was personally directed to patient registration. There I was greeted immediately by the staff and offered assistance with the electronic registration. I encountered a small problem with it, but they helped me resolve it quickly and with pleasure. I am usually pretty nervous in hospitals but their manner helped to put me at ease. My experience with Dr. Vincent Basile was amazing. I could see that it was a super busy day yet I did not feel like I was being rushed. He was very friendly, yet completely professional. I felt extremely comfortable talking to him about my issues and felt he really cared. As I walked through the halls to the various departments for my tests, I was asked on several occasions if I needed help or direction. All the tests were performed quickly, efficiently and very pleasantly. I would not normally say that a hospital is a happy place but the staff though very busy, seemed to work so well together and genuinely seemed happy to be there. At the end of my day, I left breathing a sigh of relief. From start to finish I felt very well taken care of in all departments and I will not be so uneasy at follow-up time.
Great job Mackenzie Health.

Pleasantly surprised to see improvements towards patient relations and patient services. Had day surgery and the RNs on Jan. 15/19 were all wonderful. Thorough and attentive. Special thanks to Lucy, Winnie and Dorothy. Haven't had my surgery yet but I'm sure everyone else will be just as caring.
I would really like to see a program or services for patients like myself who are single and live alone, to have the option to purchase a "home at last" drive home program. Someone to drive me home, stay an hour or two and maybe make a quick snack for the patient just arriving at home. Please consider this as I would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

Thank-You to all the emergency staff. I was admitted due to septic shock and was very well taken care of. I have the utmost respect for the stressful work that you all do and Dr. Zhu, I will be forever grateful and never forget what you did for me. I know you lost sleep over me. You revived my trust and confidence in our medical system again. I met some of the most wonderful people during my six day stay there... but if ever we are to meet again, hopefully next time it will be at a beach on a tropical resort somewhere!

1 star is a bit too much for this.. - taking down the symptoms wrong in the first time, followed by rude nurses (meaning yelling at patients), indefinite amout of wait time, spent 8+ hours of waiting just to see the result of an xray but eventually given up on waiting and come back home.

Spent 8 hours (~11pm-7am) at MH Emergency Department over the weekend. I found the staff to be professional and happy to answer questions despite the high stress nature of their jobs.
Practical concerns: parking for those 8 hours cost $15, the pharmacy was not open overnight but the staff at the hospital were able to tell me which pharmacy to go to, and I was able to buy food from the on-site cafeteria.

I was stung by a wasp and almost instantly within a minute or two, I went from being full alert to sleepiness. It was a big wasp too, not a bumble bee. I couldn't even hold myself up because all I wanted to do was sleep. It felt like an overdose of neocitran. My limbs were heavy and I was slow in my response. My husband rushed me to the hospital. Although the administration was fast, hence the one star I'm giving here, I was quickly dismissed by the doctor that my slight paralysis or muscle relaxation was only psychological and had nothing to do with the sting. There was no way it was psychological. Do doctors feel that we do these things for fun? On Mother's Day!? I remember the nurse at the triage asking me how come I'm not answering her questions...My brain was working but I just couldn't respond to her. Seriously, I would if I could. It was unbelievable at how quickly they dismissed me. The numbness finally wore off after 5-6 hours at home. My foot was then swollen and then the pain totally kicked in. It's true that I did not have any life threatening signs or symptoms but for the doctor to simply say it's psychological was insulting.

All the reviews with single star are so true. Waiting time is ridiculous. Being rude seems to be the culture with the staff here. Patients crying with pain in ER and no one s bothered. When patient calling for help, it s ignored mostly by the nurses around.

Not a great experience. Wait times are unreal 7-9 hrs, and was told to come back after waiting 8 hrs to re do ultrasound and waited another 5 hrs and the ultrasound the second time was a horrible experience. Questioned why I was there, very rude, gave me the device and asked me to do it myself since he couldn't find what they were looking for. It was like he was looking for an argument. I've never ever experienced that in my life. This guy shouldn't be a technician let alone in a hospital where people's lives are depending on it. Emerg Doctor was kind and friendly and patient, (the one I saw anyway), nurses however laughing and joking and talking about tanning, parties, laughing at other patients just really unprofessional. Watched them sit in a huddle gossiping for over an hour. And disrupting the doctors. Left with no answers. If you can't trust going to a hospital to get the answers you need, who do you trust?

Doctor Cindy Nicholas was extremely rude and pushy. Yelled at me for not pushing "correctly" and threatening me with c-sections. I had hemorraging according to the notes I reviewed after I got home and I was never informed of this by her. Doctors should at least inform you of whats going on with your own body and what meds they insert in you. Got none of that. She made so many rude comments while I was pushing. Nurse was pressuring me to get an epidural or else I was "going to be there all night". Very rude, very pushy, no bedside manners, no social skills. Next birth, I will avoid this place like the plague.

Can be hit or miss. Depending on "crew" that is working that day. I find nurses are good but over worked (as they are everywhere in Ontario). Doctors range from incompetent to down right excellent. Typical Ontario 3rd. world hospital. No better, no worse than other hospitals. Can't imagine how bad hospitals will get with the Ford cuts. Can't really blame the staff though.

This hospital is understaffed and dirty. My father has been here for 5 months and hes contracted more diseases and developed more problems from being there than he went in with. Staff do not follow proper protocol for sanitation or environmental waste, they are sometimes neglectful, and there is no effort made to try and find out the issue.

I wouldn t even give this hospital & it s staff a 1 star to be honest. Been here for 2 weeks already, every single doctor or nurse we ve dealt with was terribly rude & lacked professional skills, even simple courtesy manners! Everyone s so cold and not willing to help or care at all. Very lazy and quick to get out. Heard several nurses argue with each other, anytime you ask a nurse for help they say push the button then we ll figure something out. You push the button & wait over 2 hours for someone to come to you, then on top of that wait, they take another hour bringing you what you requested or even answering a question IF they haven t already forgotten about you. Very depressing to be here, very cold people, sad place to be in considering you re ill & are waiting to recover. The food is terrible, you order one thing, they bring you another. & when asked to change to the right one they say it s too late... so there s been days of no food & tons of medication. I can t wait to get out of here this is seriously the worst moments of my life. DO NOT come to this hospital if you can prevent it, do so!

Not great experiences in this hospital, from rude staff to nurses not understanding that THEY are not in pain and the patients ARE. Who ever is in charge of the staff, you guys need to have a serious talk with your crew and get them to be nicer to patients and have them understand THEY choose this line of work and when someone is in pain the last thing they want is a rude person talking at them and not to them.

Worst Hospital Ever. On a call for 3 hours to book a COVID test. First off, the call would constantly get disconnected after about 30 minutes because they are getting "too many calls". After 3 hours someone picked up and then transferred my call which reset my position in queue and I had to wait another 2 hours. Ended up having to do a walk in and wait all day long in a line up. Ridiculous. Avoid this place at all costs.

Walked in the hospital sick. Had food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and multiple panic attacks at night. Waited in there for 5 hours for them to tell me to eat healthier food options such as meats, carbs, etc. Never coming back to this place, ever. P.S. still feeling sick while righting this.

I was transferred to Mackenzie health via ambulance. The nurse who attended me was great, however I was sent to undergo an xray without the doctor even seeing me. I kindly declined as my injury was not of any direct trauma and more so was requiring more a mri. We were not able to do so because we were told that it was for outpatient/ technician was not available. The next best thing would be a ct scan. We waited several hours before getting approved. Till now we still havemt see the doctor. Then when we finally did after a couple hours, he took a very brief history and walked away. My wife and I slept in the hallway bed on wheels till 6 am before dr. Fu ping told us I had nothing, with ct scan saying everything was unremarkable; either the technician/doctor did not know how to read a ct scan..because the next two days I had a MRI and it stated differently.

It s a hospital first and foremost. So why should I have to go back 5 times within 2 weeks for my chronic back pain? Well, simply put for some reason there s an atmosphere counter productive to patient care. They seem to just want to get you out the door. Meanwhile knowing they did nothing to remedy the ailment that brought you in, in the first place.
Staff is friendly
Doctors pretend to care
You will have to go back for the same problem if it s a chronic ongoing issue. I ve become sick and tired of going back because the doctor I saw does nothing for my symptoms and they continue to persist. Literally a 2/10
Edit: I spoke with Mr. James Sweeney, Manager of the patient relations department. I informed him of how within a span of 48 hours Sunnybrook hospital was able to diagnose me with a ruptured L4/L5 disk AND get MRI imaging done PLUS I had an initial consultation with an orthopaedic specialist.
James was by far the most helpful employee at MacKenzie that I had the absolute pleasure of dealing with. Mr. Sweeney is literally the only good thing about my experience at this hospital.
My review of the hospital remains as it originally was however James deserves a big raise, he did a 10/10 job.

I recently went into emergency to have my ankle/leg looked at after a fall. The wait time to see the triage nurse was quick (less than 10 minutes). After that, the process, including wait times, to get an xray and see a doctor was well under an hour. Everything was fairly quick but thorough, so thank you! :)

Perhaps one of the worst hospitals in the province. Where to begin? Healthcare staff are rude and act "holier than thou", the building is old (like really old), parking is extremely limited and incredibly expensive, and ER is always jammed (although since Covid-19 hit, ER traffic has decreased somewhat). If you can avoid this hospital, i.e. go to Humber River or Markham-Stouffville, DO IT!
Sad but true, worst hospital ever.
Sad but true, worst hospital ever.
We been brought to this hospital by ambulance. Wait time to see a doctor was around 3 hours but it took the hospital staff 2 minutes to stick me with the ambulance bill.
Triage is unprofessional, staff kept saying that they will call the name. Turned out all the paperwork was not even in the line up and just was down on the side of the other table. Took 3 attempts to get it going. Staff is stressed and overworked and it shows through out the hospital.
Doctor took less then 5 min to do an assessment after collision. No suggestions, no follow up, no good bye.
Its a shame to see so much money being poured in by sponsors and government and nothing being done.
P.S.
Unless you borderline dying, stay away or choose another hospital.

If you go here for their emergency care, chances are it will be at least an 8 hour wait. It's short staffed or there are just too many patients.
But it's a good hospital. They take care of you, and the doctors try and be as thorough as possible. The nurses seem overwhelmed, but they are good and they never refuse to answer a question or ignore you. Which is wonderful. There is always a hit 'n miss in these emergency hospital when it come to doctors, but whenever I've gone, although the wait is agonizing especially when you're in intense pain, they've always given me the meds, treatment, and tests I need and I do feel better within days. If you can stand the pain, stay, it's a good place, good nurses and thorough doctors. Just a minimum 8 hour waiting time, usually. There are faster days, but rare.

I had a scheduled ultrasound at 8:55 am. I arrived by 8:30 am and was seen early. Done by 9am. Told to wait in emerg and a doctor would see me with results.
After 3 hours I asked about the wait. They dont have me in the system... 3 hours of my time utterly wasted because ultrasound tech told me to "wait here".
Disorangized hospital.
My girlfriend had to go to the emergency yesterday...
My girlfriend had to go to the emergency yesterday morning. Not only did she have to wait for 5 hours just to get a blood test, the ER did not provide any actual medical treatment; just sent her home with a prescription. Her symptoms got progressively worse and by night time, I called Telehealth seeking advice and was advised to take her to the ER immediately; I drove her to a closer ER where she was given immediate treatment and relief for her issues.
The ER staff at Mackenzie was rude to the patients who were waiting to be seen and most notably, did not provide treatment. I understand that its a hospital emergency room and there are procedures to be followed, but having to wait 5 hours to do a blood test then sent packing with no treatment is extremely unacceptable. Looking at some of the other reviews, it seems waiting 5 hours for a blood test is standard at this location.
If proper treatment was provided by Mackenzie Health ER during our first visit, it'd been highly unlikely that I would have needed to rush her to ER again for a second visit. The fact that she is currently feeling much better after last night's ER visit at another location is a clear indication that actual treatment was actually required; something the ER at Mackenzie failed to provide.
Every negative review I see on here is about the emergency room, instead of your generic & scripted sorry please email patient relations; how about the owner actually go and investigate the issue? 10/10, highly recommend if you hate yourself & want the worst ER experience you can find

So I came into the hospital with the worst pain ive ever experienced, running to the emergency department only to be thrown from one area to another with no compassion at all. Ive read quite a few of the negative reviews from this hospital but id like to mention that there are some good people there that do care about you. Ive spent three days going through emerge loosing hope until I found myself in the endoscopy department where I FINALLY spoke to someone by the name of Rose who actually took the time to listen to my concerns and although she said there was no room to accommodate me she still went out of her way to check with her manager to see if theres something they could do for me. And sure enough that department helped me out, they scheduled me an appointment that they were so kind enough to fit me in last minute, and Sherry in the urology knew that I was in so much pain that she dealt with me immediately, I didn't feel like I was being put on the back burner. This actually gave me faith that there are people out there who are willing to go out of their way just to help you out, with full compassion and who want to understand what patience like us go through. That is what you call an amazing team, that floor right there!

I would give them a zero if I could. First, Emergency is DIRTY. I have been in cleaner veterinarian hospitals. The place is the size of two city blocks, but they shove 200 sick people into line for 6-8 hours to see 1 or 2 overworked doctors while attended by incompetents who fight a broken system. Then they put them all in the community IV room with zero privacy while you sit next to suffering people with puke bags and spewing coughs. You a more likely to die by going here than by staying home.

I feel so lucky to be in the care of the "chemo team" at Mackenzie Health. The nurses, each and every one of them, are very knowledgeable, kind, efficient. The support staff is the best I have ever encountered.
From the moment one enters the doors of the unit, the caring environment is obvious. The wait time is minimal. Usually everything runs on time.
Dr. Passaperuma is an absolute gem: a very caring, honest, knowledgeable and truthful oncologist.
Thank you to each and every individual that works in this unit of the hospital, and thanks to all for helping to make my time spent receiving chemo treatment to be a positive experience.

We live about and hour and a half away but ended up in Emergency here with my nine-year-old while in the area. From the moment we arrived until we saw the physician, everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Mackenzie Health was well organized, clean, and offered great, attentive care. Couldn't ask for more from a hospital!

Built in what, 1963? And now serving a population that's increased at least 25x what it was then. Their ER should be turned into a reality show, and rated R (18+) as it's a horror show like no other in Southern Ontario, and possibly all of Canada. ER nurses are like AI drones. Void of any emotion or personality, and unable or unwilling to answer the most simple of questions. That's when they finally get to you, as you wait hours watching them chatting/joking (not working) with their other uncaring co-workers.
I cannot believe this place was not shut down years ago. Don't bother calling the phone/ext# they're quick to give you when you write a negative review, unless you want to hear a bunch of scripted: "records show we were very busy that night" "we're very sorry for your bad experience but sometimes things don't go perfectly" "we can assure you that your experience is not typical" BS.
I'm very serious when I say that if I find myself in a 911 life/death situation, I will die at home before I allow myself to be taken to this torture chamber of a Hospital.

Last week my son got injured at school. His shoulder was hurting him pretty badly, but I wasn t sure how serious it was. I was going to take him to emergency at Mackenzie Health Hospital, but I didn t know if I d be waiting long and I didn t want to take a spot from someone with a more serious need if this really wasn t that bad. So, instead, I took my son to the Mackenzie Urgent Care Center in Vaughan. It was almost 4pm (opening hour) anyway and I figured the wait might not be long. Well, I was so impressed that I wanted to share my experience. There were a few people ahead of us already but it only took a few minutes before we were got checked in and then it was probably only about 5 minutes before we got called to see a doctor. I was surprised and very pleased at how speedy and organized everything was. The doctor was very pleasant and didn t rush us and he was very gentle with my son s shoulder which was most important. We got x-rays right away and then it only took about 10 minutes for the doctor to return with the results and next steps. Sadly, my son has a broken collarbone, but at least we found out quickly and could start taking care of things right away. The doctor even called a doctor at the fracture clinic to share the x-ray and determine the best approach for my son. The doctor answered all my questions patiently and before long, someone came back to the room with a sling and showed me how to put it on my son s arm. By the time we got back to the front desk the receptionist had already booked our appointment at the fracture clinic and had the paperwork ready for me. This was amazing, efficient, and friendly service. Although we were there for an injury, the doctor and staff at the clinic made everything go smoothly. I don t think we were there for more than an hour in total. Awesome. I wanted to give the team at the clinic a shout out for the great service. The following week we had our appointment with the doctor at the fracture clinic at Mackenzie Health Hospital and once again it was a really good experience. There were a lot of people in the waiting room but a friendly volunteer directed me and I got my number to register. I thought I'd be there for a long while, but we were called fairly quickly to check-in. It was probably only 10 minutes before we got called in to a room to wait for the doctor. I figured we'd be waiting there a while but once again we were attended to very quickly (literally about 2 minutes later). The doctor showed us our son's x-ray and after a quick discussion to answer some of our questions, we were done. I was so pleasantly surprised. I was planning to be there for a couple of hours but we were done within much less than an hour. I have to say how impressed I've been with everything and how well taken care of we have felt. My son is doing well and I feel confident with the care we've received. I don't always take the time to write reviews, but I wanted to share my positive experience and say thank you to all the staff at the hospital and urgent care clinic.

The first time I entered this hopital it was in emergency. The care was excellent. The staff, doctors and nurses. I was admitted that night and given a bed within 2 hours. I have an operation to do I choose this hopital because I been to others and my experience was questionable. The name of a hopital does not mean better care. This hopital has been good so far. Please try to keep it up.

I visited the emergency department of the hospital with my husband few nights ago due to a suspected miscarriage. Sorry for the lengthy review...
First at the triage, the nurse tried to reassure us by saying bleeding and cramps are normal, which was kind of her. But she assumed that I was reading too much on what to expect and I was not serious about my conditions. So then we waited to be registered patiently and after numerous new patients came in and being registered, my husband finally went to ask if they were planning to register my visit. Felt like they just forgot about us...
After registration, I was called into the room quickly. It was a mess in the waiting room...still with used supplies from the previous patient. The doctor arrived within 15 min to ask a few questions and then I was sent to do blood work and ultrasound.
At the treatment room, it was even more messy. It was a super busy night I understand....there were zero chair for patients cause a lot of family members were there as well taking up already limited space. I think there should be signs encouraging family members to stand or wait outside because I wasn t the only patient having to stand and wait.
Blood work, I told the nurse my vessels are thin so usually nurses tend to use thinner needles. The nurse tried twice and couldn t get my blood and after she pull out the needle the second time, she just left! I was siting there blank....pressing my my wounds. Minutes later another nurse came to take my blood.
Ultrasound, it was the only department I felt like I was being treated like a patient. The tech was kind and she took her time to explain the procedure needed.
After hours of wait, we heard the nurse told two different doctors that it was our turn next but they were both relatent to deliver the bad news. Very unprofessional and insensitive. When the doctor was finally there, he said they couldn t confirm anything and I should go back to my family doctor in a week to find out. But I insisted and asked for the blood work results, and realized my levels were declining suggesting a miscarriage. Not only the doctor didn t suggest any treatment and he just swiftly left our room at that point. His name is Dr Rauchwerger. We wished the doc would educate us on what to expect following a miscarriage and if we needed to return to ER under what situation.
Is that how a health care provider should be?

This hospital deserves a better rating. The average seems low because people who had good experience don't always share but the ones who didn't always have something to say. Here are some of my stories. My wife gave birth there in 2013. My dad was sent there for a serious heart attack last year. My infant daughter went to their emegernecy multiple times. And today I just went there for a minor procedure. All experiences were good and you can't call that a coincidence. There are minor improvements they can make here and there hence a 4 as opposed to a 5 star from me but overal it's a good hospital!

Please read all of it. It does get better. This is a review ongoing for a year. Worse hospital ever. Never, ever... EVER go here... if you have a choice. No care, no compation by most, yes some of the staff are great. But over all experience was less then friendly. This is not a place to go if your in dire need. If this is your case, DO NOT GO HERE! -5 . This is the kind of place you go and if, God forbid you die, they won't find you till the next bunch clocks in. Better to go to a Veterinarian, they care. Update: (7 months later) Been on hold 27min, called 7x so fare to check on my wife who is in ICU. Had to call an ambulance .. Paramedics get a big 5 . They are great. The hospital hung up on me 2x now and when I get threw they can't even tell me if they are keeping her! :( I have a young daughter and can't go because she has a cold.... 38min now! :( My total wait time and hung up on was 1hr and 47min. Update: I have changed from 1 to 2 Because today the staff was/is very professional and caring towards my wife! Good job! ICU... Proud of the care you are giving ALL the patients today April 2nd 2019!

I came here in June for surgery. I was in the level 2 C Wing for this procedure.
The staff and workers were just so damn incredible and kind. They went above and beyond my expectations for accommodations and spoke to me to help ease my anxiety. Even now, I'm truly touched and happy I got to encounter such lovely staff. I was well taken care of and received attention when needed.
Thank you so much!!

The best experience in my multiple pregnancy. All ...
The best experience in my multiple pregnancy. All the nurse and the staff were so friendly during my 3 month stay at the Labour & delibery ward under pre-partum care. Dr. Cynthia Nicholas is a highly trained, experienced OB for multiple births. Dr. Torrence was highly experienced as well in the MFM Ultrasound Clinic. The neo- natal team has a team of experienced paediatric Doctors and nurses. I had to meet the head of Neonatal Doctor and felt totally at ease after learning from him that they had the facility to care for premature babies with the most latest innovative technology for babies born at 30 weeks onwards.
It was a wonderful experience being under the care of Dr. Cynthia Nicholas. She's a caring OB/Gyn and handled my twin pregnancy very well. At my 24 week checkup she sat down and discussed all the possible things that can happen in a multiple pregnancy so I was given a heads up that I may need to be on bedrest and having previous pregnancies already before I had a higher chance of going into labour sooner as twins do tend to arrive early anyways.. During my 7 month I had to stay in bedrest at Mackenzie health hospital until delivery due to a shortened cervix and Dr. aka Dr. Cindy made sure that all means possible out there to make me go full term with my twins - she used to visit me Monday thru Sarurdays without fail, be on top of my health, my reports have discussions with me. She delivered my twins at 37 weeks 5 days. I would recommend this Dr. To all the patients out there. Dr. Cynthia - thank you for everything - thank you for helping my babies come to this world safely.
Being at Mckenzie health for 12 weeks wouldn't have been easy without the help of the friendly staff - all the nurses had become a family to me it felt like a second home to me. All the nurses were so dedicated to their jobs they took every step necessary to make my stay comfortable and pampered me. The nurses made sure that I had my medications on time, enough meal portions, clean sheets for my bed and make sure I had a clean, sweeped floor everyday.
Keep up the good team work - Mckenzie Health!

The OHA need to urgently open up an investigation into this hospital. The sheer incompetence and negligence of the staff here is terrifying. They have failed to diagnose my father on multiple emergency visit occasions, it took one visit to Sunnybrook hospital and his life was extended. It s by some sheer luck that my father did not die in their care. The worst part is that physicians, paramedics and healthcare providers all around the GTA are well aware of this hospitals reputation and have blatantly warned us to stay away! Please, any governing body that has the power, please do something about this hospital before more people s lives are compromised.

It's not a hospital. It's a vet clinic ! Don't get me wrong. Medical personnel of lower and medium level is good. However, doctors are lamely low level. My mother had been hospitalized multiple times. Poor management. Slow actions. Doctors appear not to know what needs to be done. No attempt to address the cause of the disease. Only symptomatic treatment.
Absolutely no discharge papers!!! Just couple of lines of medication changes. No admission diagnosis. No discharge diagnosis. I am not going there!

Dear Dr. Jackson,
Dear Dr. Jackson,
I am writing you about a exceptional experience I had at your hospital under the care of 2 exceptional doctors.
I wanted to start by saying because my wife and daughter are both medical professionals that work as nurses in the system I am somewhat aware of the difficulties facing you in the hospital environment day in and day out.
I felt compelled to send a note to someone about these 2 fine professionals.
It started with a very efficient registration complete with staff to guide me to a waiting area immediately after I finished the automated registration which I found easy to use. It was followed by a long but understandable wait given the volume of patients in the waiting area.
I was first seen by Dr Diana Leucute, who not only made me fell comfortable but spent time to explain condition and solutions while reviewing all the test I have had prior to me seeing her. She was patient and made me feel like my case was important and questions relevant.
Then we were joined by Dr Vincenzo Basile who again reviewed my case with us both and added some help understanding my future and possible treatment.
Why I find this so amazing, is both these docs were busy but made me feel like my questions and time was as valuable as there s.
Something I know hard to do in our current health care system.
It was important to me that I made this known because I am sure you hear more of the contrary and more patience should pass along there positive experiences in your hospital.
Please feel free to pass my comment a along as I think that your staff and team should be proud of what you are doing.
Sincerely,
Joey

I went to this hospital to treat a hairline fracture in my thumb a few days ago, and I was surprised by the great quality of the staff. Although it was fairly busy, it was clear that the nurses and doctors were doing their best to accommodate people. They were also very caring and professional.
With all the negative reviews, I feel either that ...
With all the negative reviews, I feel either that those who have positive experiences don't write about them or I don't know because the most recent experience I've had (and mind you, I've been here 4 other times in the past year) was as good as it could get. This hospital and its staff deserve a lot more credit than they get and I encourage everyone to see it for themselves - NOT meant to belittle any negative experiences from people before me in any way but I feel they're indeed taking the feedback seriously - versus say Toronto East General - who never replies to their google reviews (and if you look through the reviews, Mac actually responds). Anyways, here's a brief overview of my most recent experience + the pros/cons.
My 72 y.o. grandmother has a very high blood pressure, meds didn't seem to work. We got to the ER friday night around 9 pm - it was quite busy. Took about 35 mins for the triage, another 30 mins for registration (after which they did a blood + urine tests and an ECG right away); got called in about 30 mins after that (nurse once again measured b.p. - her name was Kelly and she was super nice and attentive) and another hour in the room before officially seen by doc. So yes the wait times are long - the ER was packed - so yes annoying but understandable. Finally, the doc (Dr. Fu) came in and was worried she might have had a mini stroke - by that time her bp dropped a little (maybe the meds began to work) but he wanted to get a full pic so right then and there we went for a brain CT - took about 10 mins. Then we had to go back for the results and to see the doc again. Another nurse took another blood sample and an ECG. Waited another 1.5 hours until the CT results which turned out to be normal. Dr. discharged us but told us to come back in 2 days for a carotid doppler and also gave a referral to a stroke prevention clinic. We felt so taken care of that my grandma felt like she was on cloud nine. Dr. said essentially her blood pressure meds need to be changed and advised what the changes should be. p.s. Doppler was normal.
Now the breakdown - wait times were long, yes - we got there at 8.30 pm and left around 3.30 am. Nurses were great and attentive. Dr. seemed a little stressed out and wasn't jumping around smiling if that's what people care about (I've personally been exposed to the healthcare field and don't understand what people expect from a Dr. who's working the nighttime ER shift in terms of smiling - I care about the MEDICAL help).
Lots of pros - we didn't feel pushed out - they cared enough to get to the bottom of this sudden blood pressure esp considering she has a plethora of health issues - type 1 diabetes, 1 kidney and hypertension to name a few. Not to mention that we felt monitored - the blood was taken more than once, same w ECG.
I've also visited a few times - separate from this - for different issues and the service was fast and thorough (although one time I waited 4 hours).
All in all, I hope everyone has only the best experience although I understand from what I've read, sometimes things aren't the best. I really feel they're taking in the feedback and are working on it.
If I could give this hospital, all doctors and all...
If I could give this hospital, all doctors and all nurses a 0... I would. This was the most horrible experience I had to ever go through. I arrived to Emergency on a Saturday at 1 PM with a 7.5 month old child that had a fever of 39.5 C. While there wasn't a too big of a line up, we still had to wait almost 2 hours before the nurse was able to see the child and give her ibuprofen to lower down the temperature. Doctor came in shortly after and said oh.. we need to take urine for analysis and left without any other comments. So we wait for the nurse to collect the sample, she comes in, does her thing, and leaves. So we wait again... shortly after a man comes in to the room and says, we will have to transfer you to a quiet room and wait there. After we wait for 2 hours in a quiet room and no one coming in to check up on us, I start getting frustrated because the child is now burning up again and can barely move. I go and look for some one that can help, only to hear ok ok we will send some one to check up on you. 2 more hours have gone by.. no one shows up. So furious I go and just find a random nurse and explain the situation, she comes in and start to take the child temperature without exam gloves... realizes she doesn't have them and leaves... comes back takes the temp and leaves saying she will be back in a minute. We wait for another hour... no one comes back. So now I am really furious by the negligence... I go and find another nurse who says that OUR nurse is on break... really? Ok so we find the nurse another hour have passed by, she says, OH, we thought you left... and you were hiding in the quiet room, so we couldn't find you... REALLY? Then she proceeds with when we collected urine for analysis, it wasn't enough, we have to do it again... Really? 6 hours have gone by and you have to do it again? Now I am just really puzzled by the amount of idiocy and negligence from these nurses and everyone operating in the emergency area. I demand we are taken back to a real room and see a doctor again... the child start showing signs of a red rash all over the body. We wait for another hour until a nurse does another sample collection. And we wait again... it is now 10 PM on the clock. Nurse says there is a pediatrician in the building and she can now see you. And we wait again... it is now 11 PM... the pediatrician finally sees us and start joking around about the situation that we were in... I said really? Is this really a joking matter? She says oh it's just some virus... it's not a bladder infection, just some virus. Just drink some advil and tylenol. She checks the throat and says, there is a blister there, but says absolutely nothing about strep or tonsillitis. I demand she still takes a swab just to be sure, to which she says OK will do the swab. Really I have to ask? It is now 11:45 PM and almost 12 hours have gone by since I came in with a child... My question is, is it incompetence or just plain negligence? I get it, it is not SickKids, but this is unacceptable. No one apologized, no one even tried, just brushed us off with some nonsense.
And no, do not send me your "we apologize for your experience at Mackenzie Health, contact our Patient Relations team " template. I do not accept these kind of apologies.

Was there for 7 days for back surgery and found staff on my floor apart for maybe two or three to be very rude and unprofessional on numerous occasions nurse would ignore my needs even for glass of ice water. The other patient in the room with me was loud ignorant and even racist to staff but got attention when needed.Cant say my stay there was a pleaseant one just hope i never have to return.

I am unclear if the staff at the main entrance have compassion fatigue or just need further training on patient centred care.
I brought someone to the hospital for a procedure and they were not polite, hospitable or respectful. Bringing someone in who has a disability and needed support one would expect a sense empathy and compassion. We have had better care from the greeter at wal-mart.
It takes nothing to be polite, courteous and respectful. I would say to the staff at the main entrance... put yourself in the place on the person coming into mackenzie. Vulnerable.. Anxious... needing supportive presence...
This hospital has some amazing staff. It has great doctors nurses and front line staff. But when the face of the hospital is the folk at the main entrance.... its not meeting your mission and values.
