This hospital has one of the best facilities for a mother and a newborn child. Our experience from the birthing unit, maternity ward, to peds was way above our expectation. The staff are not only friendly and approachable but also knowledgeable and very professional. The facility is always clean and does not have the characteristic pungent odour when you go in a hospital. I highly recommend this place particularly for couples who are expecting.

My grandmother fell into a high fever, was incoherent in speech and did not seem to understand anything I was saying so I called 911. They brought her to the hospital and found out she was having heart and kidney problems.

The reason why this hospital is appalling is that they are extremely understaffed and the people that do work there are very impolite and don't manage information properly.

Example: My mother decided she should give her main phone number to Emergency over the phone so that she can be contacted if necessary. The secretary that answered instead refused to use that number and instead went with the one on file, which my mother could not use at the time, hence why she is calling. That nurse then claimed that information cannot be changed over the phone.

After this incident my mother called again a few days later to attempt to change the number again and also to give consent for MRI. In doing this, she was kept on hold for 42 minutes and 37 seconds. We later learned that there were no secretaries in the ENTIRE RECEPTIONIST FLOOR. It was at that moment that we decided we were done.

I took my family member to get checked out (as requested by our family doctor), since its the closest hospital to us (unfortunately). Nurses were rude, Doctor was very unhelpful and barely examines the patient. Exact same treatment this hospital gave me 3 years ago. NEVER HAD ANY GOOD EXPERIENCES HERE, even when i worked Security here for 6 months.

Went to the Emergency Department after I badly hit my toe. Arrived at 4:00 p.m. and was done before 6 p.m. From Triage, Registration, Nursing, Xray, doctor, everyone was fantastic, polite and professional. My toe was broken and a tech bandaged me up and I was done at 5:45 p.m. Great Job!!

This place needs to be shut down and better use of our tax dollars has to be found.
Its singularly the worst managed hospital I have ever been to and thats saying a lot.

ER wait times have been in excess of 5 hours on all three / four occasions.
They have longer wait times for scheduled procedures as all. I had to have a procedure repeated because the first time round the biopsy sample was misplaced, not to mention that the physician could not be contacted for a follow up. Had better luck with a different, significantly more competent physician second time around.

Best avoided. If you have to go, please advocate for yourself strongly.

Some of the nurses are good some just ignore you the whole night and the doctors just wanna get you the heck outta their I go in with a genetic disorder with a protocol letter that they must follow but the doctors never seem to wanna follow it at the begining then when a few days go by they end up doing the protocol amd then I can go home but if they follow the protocol right from the begining I cpuld have gone home sooner I have to tell the doctors what to do everytime and if they would just follow the protocol then everything would be so much easier I have had this disorder all my life I know how to fix myself just can't do it at home cause I need a specific iv then when they finally follow what the protocol asks for they don't even keep those bags in stalk and the pharmacy is to lazy to make it so then the nurse has to make it in a less sterile invironment cause they go home and give the ratio on how to do it at the nurse station there self sometimes you get in faster when it's not busy but don't expect to see a doctor for at least 4 to 6 hours

Do not sign your family members up to be residents...

Do not sign your family members up to be residents at their long term care facilities!
Why you would ask:
1. They gave my mother wrong medications
2. Fail to provide proper care for my mother when she is experiencing dematis
3. Apparently it's normal to have screws sticking out of people's body so no need to inform family members or to provide medical care other than care from nurses for this matter

When you try to get a hold of someone with answers you get the run around response with NO follow up or actual answers!

It's a waiting game with them if you want treatments or tests or anything done!

Went in with chest pains and told them i thought I was having a heart attack because I have family history of heart disease.
Had chest pain, jaw pain, and pain in my right arm. They did an ecg and blood work. Doctor told me my heart was fine even though my bp was 190/120. They gave me Toridol and medication to lower my blood pressure then sent me home.
2 days later I went to the Emergency room at Health Sciences North in Sudbury complaining about the same symptoms. HSN did an angiogram and I had a 99% blocked artery and they told me I had a heart attack and put a stent in, which is what Mackenzie Heatlth should have done!
If you think you're having a heart attack, go anywhere else but here if you want to live!

The hospital staff have been very nice, polite , professional, and caring through my difficult time. I appreciate it alot. The facility is nice as well and very clean. However, they seem unorganized at times. Made me wait to go through triage when I had an appointment, which caused me to be late even though I showed up early. Only to find out that all I had to do was go to patient registry which would of taken one third of the time. And the hospital keeps calling me asking for feedback or for me to complete a service survey asking how they did. It would be all good, if I didn't specifically ask them not to call me, gave them the times I was working and asked to be called when I'm not on shift unless it's an emergency, and I'm currently waiting for important test results. So thanks for the heart attack, thinking that you're calling me because something's been found. When I went in for my follow up the other day I asked not to be contacted unless it is for a result. Yet today, again, while at work, they called :/.

Also there is a loud buzzing that runs through the whole E.R whenever they page someone over the system and when your not feeling great (which if you're at the e.r I'm assuming you're not in perfect condition) is really annoying and headache inducing.

The mission statement is about creative gifts... well use some of that money to improve patient dignity. When you come into hospital you feel vulnerable and it does not help if you a man or woman who is not 5'5 and a size 12. Buy some Hospital gowns for women and men designed with full coverage for dignity and modesty. I had an awful experience of curtains that would not close being put in a gown that does not fit.. because its one size fits all. I have been a patient in Toronto were they offer you bariatric gown.. not a nice turn of phrase..but to be honest I am just happy to have something that offers modesty and dignity.
Staff were good and physician was amazing.

WORST STAFF AND HOSPITAL!! One of the nurses almost killed brother!! Some Patients were sitting with broken bones with more than 6 hours!! There was no doctors to be found bunch of nurses that were busy eating chips and constantly having meetings together. There is a risk of getting worse or loosing your life at this hospital. Government should monitor the nurses.

This hospital is really a bad place specially when you walk in sick and they treat you like animal not as human. All staffs are rude. I was there with my mom they doctor told us the nurse will come to give her a pill by mouth just a pill took 3 hours. When I ask the nurse he said he forgot about it. This is not professional it s his job and he forgot about duty. I do not recommend this hospital for anyone. Please do not take your loved once to this hospital if you love them they make it worse. I have give one star there is no options for zero. Thank you for those who read this..

North korea and any third world country very likely has infinitely better emergency care services than here.
Keep in mind they faced a lawsuit for negligence in basically murdering a poor baby because they were too lazy and incompetent to diagnose his illness and did not treat him properly. Expect to experience this concept when you come here. I feel very concerned for people thinking it s a good idea to come to this emergency and would not recommend it at all. Disappointed to learn that the new hospital is a a mackenzie branch as well but hopefully it ll be better than this one

Terrible! triage consists of "taking a number" based on 2 questions to determine if you need a mask. over 30 mins to actually talk to a human being. Joke of a sign says numbers may be called out of order. I have no idea how as they do not know the condition of the people waiting. Who ever came up with this idea should be fired. Last time I come here. By the way my child had a Fever spike of 107. Terrible terrible terrible.

Update: one we finally got to see a human they were polite and efficient.

Just wish the phone on the website worked! I doesn't .. I had to call the local Vaughn line.

After my sister fractured her knee, she has spent the last 3 weeks trying to get in touch with the fracture clinic, yesterday I finally was able to leave a voicemail.

Just wish their communication skills were much better, there is for sure room for improvement.

I have had 2 experiences within a week at Mackenzie Health, both excellent. The first was with the Emergency Department. I had an injury to my leg that required an X-ray and I entered the department, was greeted in a welcoming way and was triaged, assessed by a doctor and discharged within an hour. It was speedy, thorough and pleasant. A week later I was seen in the Fracture Clinic and couldn't be more pleased. It was organized, efficient, and thorough. I was seen by a doctor, occupational therapist and physiotherapist who were very thorough and informative. This whole process also was completed within an hour approximately. The front staff were helpful and friendly. Thank you for making this experience smooth and welcoming.

Giving this hospital 1 star is too kind...

Unfortunately, this is the only hospital close to us, not much of a choice.

I literally had to request the nurse to do blood work on my daughter. We came in, no ECG, absolutely nothing... The nurses have HORRIBLE attitudes and have no time to explain anything to patients.
WTF IS THIS ABOUT???
----------
Just heard one of the nurses give a man who was trying to tell her in broken English that his wife was in a lot of pain and she completely dismissed him in a horrible way.

WE ARE DISGUSTED BY THIS HOSPITAL, THEY REALLY NEED NEW STAFF, BECAUSE THE ONE THEY HAVE LACKS EVERYTHING REQUIRED TO HELP SOMEONE.

You know after this horrible experience, meeting Dr. Gibbons was very refreshing, he has all the wonderful qualities that the nurses lack.

First time ever writing a review on anything whats...

First time ever writing a review on anything whatsoever but this is warranted. About 10 months ago I awoke with a severe pain in my lower abdomen and was taken here as I was sleeping at my girlfriends nearby. After 2 hours of absolute excruciating pain they finally got me some kind of painkiller. Then after one ultrasound and another 8 hour wait they decided to tell me I'm perfectly fine and sent me home. As I was walking out the door I was still in pretty bad pain. Not to mention every single nurse and doctor there was commendably rude and mean. Here we are 10 months later and the exact same attack happened. Went to another Toronto Hospital, and after doing the correct tests told me I had appendicitis and needed emergency surgery. They said an ultrasound cannot catch something like this always. When I was at McKenzie they told me it might be appendicitis but after ultrasound cleared me off from that. Turns out I lived an entire year (dangerously and incredibly lucky that it didn't rupture) with appendicitis. I just had my surgery and am feeling great. Thanks guys for almost ending my life due to your lazyness and treating me like a number.

One star simply because of the horrendous parking....

One star simply because of the horrendous parking. The main lot is not regulated as to number of cars coming in. So, as has happened a handful of times for me, including today, you run into a situation where ten people are driving around looking for a non existent vacant spot and hoping someone leaves; it's like playing musical chairs without the music or laughter. What's worse is there is nowhere close that you can park and then walk to hospital. The nearby school obviously has to deal with this problem by handing out parking tickets as witnessed today.

Had both my kids here and the mat birth ward & dept are great. Both times I was lucky to catch my OB on call so he took good care of me both times. And lucky that both times we were able to get a private room. Docs here are amazing (epidural) and the team is very caring. Parking gets full easily but my new family and I have been taken care of both visits. My cousin also came here for both her deliveries as well.

I dealt with a terribly rude nurse when I arrived at the hospital to give birth. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the nurse that was actually involved in the birth was very nice. When I was transferred into a private room which I paid extra for, it was boiling hot in there and mind you I gave birth in the middle of summer. Also no tv or internet available in the private room either. Nurses were not helpful with advice when it came to baby and pressured me to breastfeed even though baby wasn t getting enough. I will not be giving birth at this hospital again.

My grandfather was rushed by ambulance to this hospital after he suffered a fall that he could not remember (alzheimer's). He had blood on his head and was complaining of pain in his ribs. They took him for a ct scan and we were told he only suffered bruised ribs and provided stitches for his head wound and was released. 4 days later we received a call from the hospital that upon them reviewing his ct scan they had made an error and the doctor said his ribs were broken!
Either the doctors here need further medical training or they did not take the time necessary to properly assess my 86 year old grandfather's condition. Unacceptable!!!

I was hospitalized for 8 days in February, and my good experience began in Emergency where the kindest volunteer saw I was having difficulty with my balance and offered to empty and rinse my cup so I wouldn't have to walk far. The extraordinary staff were kind and caring during my entire stay, and as I became more ambulatory, I would walk to the lobby where I further noticed and experienced the attentiveness of the volunteers.
Thanks to all at Mackenzie Health, from the Emergency Dept. to the Stroke Unit, to the amazing and patient MRI department, and of course the volunteers!

Just wanted to thank the amazing staff at Mackenzie Health for their exceptional care during my time there. From the labour and delivery team, to the staff on the postpartum unit and the lactation consultant, everyone was professional, kind and wanted the best for me and baby. They provided me great information to assist in determining the path of treatment for baby as she was kept for 4 days due to being underweight and jaundiced. Labour & Delivery Staff certainly made an impression when one of them even visited me in the postpartum unit to ensure my transition was smooth and to follow up on appointments she made for me with the lactation consultant. Would 100% recommend Mackenzie Health.

This hospital doesn t even deserve 1 star! They are disorganized, cold, and offer little to no answers to frantic patients. My mother spent over 24 hours in the e.r waiting area with no answers and no assistance. Near fainting and asking for help and water she was ignored completely. The doctor that finally came to examine her couldn t even examine her because it wasn t appropriate to do so in the waiting area. Instead of taking her somewhere to do a proper examination he gave no clear answers other than she may or may not have a procedure the following day. No food no water allowed, not allowed to go home and shower or anything. Only after 24 hours she finally got a bed and slept for the night. The next day at NOON she was told she s not on any list for the procedure and STILL at this point no one has checked her out properly. This hospital is a disgrace and I will never ever go there should the occasion arise. I highly warn people to stay away from this place. We apparently have a very flawed health care system with all the taxes we pay. I can t express enough how thoughtlessly they treat patients at this place. Something should be done about this.

Had the worst experience at this hospital. The staff is a joke. The doctors are unprofessional. I came to the emergency with a very bloody face after tripping and hyperextending my knee. My friends rushed me to this hospital and not ONE staff came by to ask if I was okay. Not ONE staff tried to help my clean up all the cuts and bruises on my face. I left the hospital with a bloody face still. I couldn't walk and a male nurse had the audacity to tell me to move from a spot I was sitting at.

Went for a fracture clinic appt, saw Dr. Nousseini or whatever his name is..He told me I tore my acl and mcl. That was it. Nothing else. I was in pain and the doctor made me feel so uncomfortable to ask him questions. I just got off the phone with their appointment team and they said the doctor made the mistake of not booking an MRI appt for my knee. I am currently still in pain.

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. I'm about to go to humber hospital.

Emergency room wait on a slow day to see the doctor was over an hour and a half. The doctors and nurses were laughing together and not getting much work done. The doctor was passive aggressive and reeked of I don't even know what smell. The nurse that took my blood put the needle in weird and after she left it in my arm in case I needed medication through it later, more blood came out. When my mom asked her to take it out, because I was panicking over this, she argued that I'd have to be poked again and got angry said whatever and did it. At that point I left so to sum up, longer wait than walk in clinics, no priority unless you've got chest pain (I honestly doubt it's any faster even then), and the doctors and nurses fool around and are rude.

I recently visited the hospital for a hand injury which happened at work. The staff in the Emergency Department were very helpful and got me in and out in no time. Dr. Fortier eased me through the process by alleviating my anxiety and making me feel safe. He walked me through the procedure of getting stitches, which was comforting. Overall, my experience at Mackenzie Health was a positive one.

Horrible, such a backwards hospital. Could have gotten better service in Senegal, Africa.

First of all an 8 hour wait for extreme pain, there was only one physician for the whole emergency ward, and only ONE X-Ray technologist for the hospital. Didn't even get the X-Ray.

Lastly, we had to book an ultrasound appointment a week later, our family doctor faxed the appointment form and it was confirmed. We call three days later because they haven't called us back to schedule an appointment, and guess what? They didn't "receive" the faxed appointment form even though it was confirmed.

Do not go here!

I have been a patient at MacKenzie Health numerous times over the years. I find they have extraordinary medical care and the quality of care is excellent. I feel comfortable and grateful that this hospital is close to home and is in fact one of the best hospitals I have been to. I cannot commend the staff for their utmost compassionate and continued support. I find this hospital very reputable based on my experiences. The hospital appears to also follow all safety practices including cleanliness. The staff are amazing and willing to assist so I commend them for the amazing and difficult work they do everyday. I have never had any issues with them over the years. Should the need arise for myself or family members we will always return to MacKenzie Health. Two of the most powerful words I can say to everyone at MacKenzie Health that we learn as a Toddler is THANK YOU for all you do.

Go here if you want to set a new record for longest wait in an ER room. Mine is 8 hours. Even their waiting rooms have waiting rooms. Nurse called security on a frustrated old lady in pain, and different nurses triple check all your answers to see if you're lying. I went in with severe stomach pain and was told nothing was wrong with me and was advised to take non prescription H2 antagonist. Best part was when the ultrasound person told me he was waiting for me for over an hour, and I hadn't a clue because no one called my name. Classic.

If you are going here to have your baby, I strongl...

If you are going here to have your baby, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. The hospital staff, save for maybe 2 or 3 at the most, are indifferent at best to you.

Dr. Koshbakht (our OB), Sue Mason (hearing test), and Brittany and Katie (lactation consultants) are the exceptions that I think should be recognized more for their expertise and efforts. This is where the praises end.

The RN's said some insensitive comments to my wife without realizing during our stay, mostly due to the fact that--and this in no way is meant to be racial--their command of the English language is not at the level you'd want your health professional explaining important medical information.

One conversation example:

RN: are you going to working?
wife: I'm on mat leave now for a year.
RN: no, you are working now?
wife: no, I'm on mat leave.
RN: no working in the room.
wife: what? OHHHH am I WALKING around in the room? no.

We had a private room and not once did any staff knock before entering other than the food staff. Oh, and the private room was dank and dark like it was a minimum security prison (trust me, I've seen them). The washroom had no ventilation, so smells would linger for a while after #2's.

One RN accidentally spilled in the bathroom floor urine collected from my wife's catheder. She said she'd call staff to clean it up. Almost 2 hours later, no one came. I had to ask hospital cleaning staff if they could come help clean it up, and all they did was take a wet mop to it. You could still smell the urine.

My wife needed approval from her OB to be discharged. The RN said she'd call the OB to get that, and from the looks of things, we would be allowed to leave soon. Fifteen minutes later I happen to call the OB to make a follow up appointment for my wife. I asked about our OB talking to the RN, but I was told the RN had not called yet. The OB said she'd call the hospital back to talk to the RN herself so that we could leave soon. I gave the RN the benefit of the doubt that she had to finish her rounds before making the call to our OB. An hour and a half, we still didn't get any confirmation that we could leave. I sought out the RN, and she says she JUST got off the phone with our OB and got the OK to discharge us. What a liar. This same nurse checked that our baby was in our car seat correctly before going home. She actually said that I did a good job, and things looked right. Later when I was just perusing through the car seat manual, I realized that the leg straps were the wrong side of the legs on our drive home from the hospital.

I also was interested in buying a breast pump from the Postpartum unit. It was around 5 pm when I asked our RN if I could buy one there, or I needed to go to the gift shop (I was told they were sold there at the breat feeding clinic early on). She said that the lactation consultant is the one who could sell it to us and that I should have bought it from here before 4:30 pm. No one had told us that stipulation, but the RN made it sound like I was stupid for not knowing that. At the same time she seemed really eager to sell me the breast pump and said she'd look into finding someone who could bring the the pump and charge me to the credit card they had on file for our private room. Another half hour passed while trying to get discharged so I told her not to bother.

On our way out, I went to the gift shop and I asked, "Excuse me, do you sell breast pumps?" The lady replied, "You want to renting breast pump?" I said, "No, I would like to BUY one. Do you sell them here for purchase?" "No, not sell them here," she replied. Then another person who overheard says, "Are you looking to buy a breast pump? We have them here to sell."

I would need another hour to finish writing all the unhappy experiences but I need to tend to my recovering wife and pooping baby.

Our elderly mother has been admitted to this hospital twice in several months. Her experience both times from the emergency department to her stay have been phenomenal. She was brought in by ambulance but when I arrived, the security team personally brought me directly into emergency to see her. The doctors, nurses, volunteers and staff are kind, caring and efficient. They take the time to explain and answer questions; never in a rush to dismiss you. My mother has been in many hospitals over her lifetime and has said to me that this hospital is amazing and in future does not want to go anywhere else. Kudos to the President and Senior Staff, doctors and nurses for running a hospital that gives exceptional care. I had heard the stories about this hospital, but honestly it may have been in the past. Absolutely no sign of the so called "debauchery" and incompetence.

I came to the emergency Aug 7 at 2:30pm Day shift ...

I came to the emergency Aug 7 at 2:30pm Day shift and the staff were great. Th Dr explained in details what they did and explained to me that because I'm dietbetic the medication would cause my clucose levels to rise and if they were over 20 to come back and they would give me an insulin shot to lower the levels.I was don't buy 5:45pm.Great experience!

As expected the clucose levels went up over 20 so I came in 12:30 am August 8 THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I waited over 15 minutes to get called at the triage, there was no one there except me and the staff were chatting about their day at home. After 15 minutes finally took me and got registered. Then the nurse called me in to do the paperwork and I explained that I was already there earlier so they didn't do anything and asked me to wait outside the hallway. After an hour and a half they called me in and told me to sit in room 3 to wait for the Dr. Another hour and a half and no Dr came to see me .

There was a total of 7 people in the emergency already assessed and no nurses or doctors to be found.

Great atmosphere during the day professional and courteous but totally different atmosphere the night shift. I got up and left. NEVER AGAIN!

My wife and I both find the ultrasound technician ...

My wife and I both find the ultrasound technician in the MFM unit to be very pleasant and professional. She is very friendly and definitely loves babies!

The doctor is very caring and professional too.

They don't keep us waiting forever like other places, and they take good care of my wife and unborn child, so I am thankful to them.

Recently I checked into Mackenzie Health Hospital ...

Recently I checked into Mackenzie Health Hospital for a scheduled septoplasty surgery to treat my sinuses. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience, as far as surgeries go.
The staff that took care of me was amazing, quickly easing my anxiety. They took their time explaining the surgical process, answering my questions in a friendly and understanding manner.
While waiting into the surgery, the staff was very attentive, asking if I needed a blanket and making sure that I was comfortable.
After the surgery, Dr. Conrad, who performed the procedure, called my wife and told her that everything went well. Upon discharge, I was dressed by an orderly and wheeled out to a waiting car. He made sure I had no problem getting to the car, shook my hand and wished me good luck.
Thank you to the staff and doctors at Mackenzie Health for making my surgery go as smoothly as possible.

Dissapointed. 5 hours to be discharged from night ...

Dissapointed. 5 hours to be discharged from night and almost 4 hours after an ultrasound ordered by the ER doctor.
I told the doctors I have pain for more than a month but since the ultrasound showed nothing, there is nothing they can do from an "emergency" perspective.
If the ER doctors do not see anything but the symptoms do not go away despite the medications, why the heck the doctor did not give me a referral for the specialist himself and referred me back to my family doctor?
Still in pain and totally lost. Hoping that my family doctor could help tomorrow when I call her.
I expected better care.
