Eugene Kapishon Review of Mackenzie Health
If I could give this hospital, all doctors and all...
If I could give this hospital, all doctors and all nurses a 0... I would. This was the most horrible experience I had to ever go through. I arrived to Emergency on a Saturday at 1 PM with a 7.5 month old child that had a fever of 39.5 C. While there wasn't a too big of a line up, we still had to wait almost 2 hours before the nurse was able to see the child and give her ibuprofen to lower down the temperature. Doctor came in shortly after and said oh.. we need to take urine for analysis and left without any other comments. So we wait for the nurse to collect the sample, she comes in, does her thing, and leaves. So we wait again... shortly after a man comes in to the room and says, we will have to transfer you to a quiet room and wait there. After we wait for 2 hours in a quiet room and no one coming in to check up on us, I start getting frustrated because the child is now burning up again and can barely move. I go and look for some one that can help, only to hear ok ok we will send some one to check up on you. 2 more hours have gone by.. no one shows up. So furious I go and just find a random nurse and explain the situation, she comes in and start to take the child temperature without exam gloves... realizes she doesn't have them and leaves... comes back takes the temp and leaves saying she will be back in a minute. We wait for another hour... no one comes back. So now I am really furious by the negligence... I go and find another nurse who says that OUR nurse is on break... really? Ok so we find the nurse another hour have passed by, she says, OH, we thought you left... and you were hiding in the quiet room, so we couldn't find you... REALLY? Then she proceeds with when we collected urine for analysis, it wasn't enough, we have to do it again... Really? 6 hours have gone by and you have to do it again? Now I am just really puzzled by the amount of idiocy and negligence from these nurses and everyone operating in the emergency area. I demand we are taken back to a real room and see a doctor again... the child start showing signs of a red rash all over the body. We wait for another hour until a nurse does another sample collection. And we wait again... it is now 10 PM on the clock. Nurse says there is a pediatrician in the building and she can now see you. And we wait again... it is now 11 PM... the pediatrician finally sees us and start joking around about the situation that we were in... I said really? Is this really a joking matter? She says oh it's just some virus... it's not a bladder infection, just some virus. Just drink some advil and tylenol. She checks the throat and says, there is a blister there, but says absolutely nothing about strep or tonsillitis. I demand she still takes a swab just to be sure, to which she says OK will do the swab. Really I have to ask? It is now 11:45 PM and almost 12 hours have gone by since I came in with a child... My question is, is it incompetence or just plain negligence? I get it, it is not SickKids, but this is unacceptable. No one apologized, no one even tried, just brushed us off with some nonsense.
And no, do not send me your "we apologize for your experience at Mackenzie Health, contact our Patient Relations team " template. I do not accept these kind of apologies.
