This is a really nice place. Since I called I knew that The staff would be really friendly, specially the doctor. Doctor Hunt is a wonderful doctor, friendly and patience. My puppy broke her arm yerterday and the vet recommended to have a surgery. I check the reviews and this was one of the best places. I talked with some other daddies patients and they are happy with the staff and treatments. The hospital is very clean, they have a little bit of boxes on a side but is ok. My only real complain is about the chairs lol they are too hard if you need to wait the 3 hours that I need to wait. However they have a good waiting area with a soda machine, bathroom, TV and water fountain. They have a free/big enough parking lot. I was expecting a more expensive treatment but I guess that because the prognosis was better the treatment is different. The music is very relaxing... We will need to come every week for the next 6 weeks (at least) for the follow ups so I will update my review if something changes but so far everything is going good.

I had the very unfortunate late night emergency of my dearly loved dog having gastric tortion. I knew what that was already and it was what I thought was happening. The moment I came through the front doors someone got on the PA and called for emergency personnel stat. They knew I was coming because I called and asked them to please be ready for us, which they appeared to be. The condition is a death sentence for almost any dog that gets it and the ones that go through surgery have incredible recovery and medical costs. The staff was so compassionate towards me from the first moment, through my dog's last moment and on through my own recovery state. I can't express how much my dog meant to me and how shockingly quick it all happened. She was an otherwise healthy 18 year old dog with only some hip and arthritis problems. Her primary vet recently referred to her as remarkable. It's the kind of decision you don't think you can make but when you're there in that moment, you do know what the right thing to do is. I am so sorry for the pain she endured and I still feel a little at blame - but I am confident she received the best and thorough medical care she could have anywhere. They sent us a lovely card expressing their condolences which I found to be very touching. I'm not sure what other kinds of emergencies or problems they deal with over there but I can say I will never forget the color of the tiles, the posters on the wall nor the table in the private room. I certainly won't forget how it felt being there under those conditions. I am glad it was their doors I brought her through because anything else wouldn't have been good enough for my dog.

My dog has been to AERA three times -- for back surgery, referral with an oncologist due to the possibility of lymphoma (thankfully she didn't have it), and today she's coming home after 6 nights in the hospital with an autoimmune disorder. The staff, from the receptionists to the veterinarians and everyone in between, are knowledgeable and compassionate. Why else would my very tired and sick dog wag her tail when an employee came to bring her back to her cage when we visited her? AERA saved my dog's life this past week and saved her quality of life every time she's been cared for there. I recommend AERA without hesitation for any animal who needs emergency care or care by a specialist.

What a terrible experience. We brought our ill pup in, the vet came out and said she needed to know if she should proceed forward . ..she needed to do so right away. I asked her what that meant...she was vague in her response. ..then talked about all sorts of tests, etc i asked for guidance...it seemed I was annoying her. After some back and forth we said we would take our pup home and have her pass there with a vet...the response was she didn't have that much time. She only had an hour. And yet...she wanted to do all those proceedures on a pup with 1 hour left.
We took our pup.. asked what we owed ...the response was " nothing...just take her" . ..said with disdain. Honestly...I didn't need compassion...but at least the vet could have been polite. I'm sure not every vet is bad...but this woman on Sunday afternoon on 10/28 at 1pm was terrible .

this place is 24/7. the vet and the tech we saw really seemed to care about animals and more importantly, my dog seemed at ease with them.
after an initial assessment, options for care WITH pricing was provided. i really liked this because you know immediately what you are getting and what it will cost and dont feel weird about having to ask what it would cost.
took the time to explain everything which i really valued.
front desk staff could have been friendlier but in exchange, they were very efficient which i preferred for an emergency care facility.
they sent all the information directly to my regular vet that same evening.
ample parking when i visited (off hours when my regular vet was closed). very clean and spacious inside.

i want everyone to read this warning and please use it for yourself in the future because you may find yourself in a situation like mine. We had brought our dog in to the emergency hospital after our dog had been having seizures. When we went in there they had almost no idea what was going on. This concerned me because when a dog is having seizure like behavior there are a list of things it may be (after we had done our research). they kept him for three days and gave him back to us. They had come up with no explanation as to what it was, no medication, no answers. When i asked the lady if our dog was going to be ok, she said that she doesnt know. After all of the care they had done for my dog (which lead us nowhere) they charged us a very large amount of money. For no answers it seemed very unfair. Fast forward about a week. he had another set of seizures which we were very concerned about. We brought him in again and this time they had done the same thing. They kept him for the full three days and they ran three tests on him that were invasive and one of them was not even necessary. Again we came out with no answers and they gave us seizure medication to stop the seizures. We then brought him to a recommended vet that had more experience. Immediately she did an ultrasound on him and found a few irregularities that are now leading us to the diagnosis of what he has. In 30 minutes she had discovered issues that could be leading to the seizures and the issues at hand. When we had mentioned to her the tests that the animal hospital had ran on him at first she seemed concerned as if she couldnt believe they jumped to those measures immediately. Our regular vet also seemed very concerned that they had ran those tests on him as well. The take away from this is that the Animal Emergency & Referral Associates seem to be clueless as to figuring out issues that your dog will be having. This is their job, to solve issues with dogs and to have viable answers to issues. They had nothing for us, to be honest all they did was confuse us and lead us even farther away from what the issue actually is. I warn everyone who may be considering going here, and i know this was long, but if you value the safety and health of your pet i would definitely reconsider going to Animal Emergency & Referral Associates. It seemed like they were more worried about making money off of us than actually solving our problems. I dont want anybody else to have to go through what we did.

I came to AERA to see Dr Alsarraf because she had the first available opening out of the oncologists that Suki's primary vet recommended, and I am so grateful for that. Dr Alsarraf and her team have been amazing - not only with taking care of Suki, but for how they interact with me. It was an emotional wreck during my first visit with Dr Alsarraf - Suki just had a mast cell tumor removed from her chest and I was worried that the cancer may have spread.

One of the first things Dr Alsarraf did was give me a great big hug. I really needed it. That little action meant so much because so much had happened to Suki in such a little time. She and her team took their time to explain their findings and what Suki's options were. They let them know that I could ask them anything, any time.

Since that first visit, we have gone back to see Dr Alsarraf and her team 2 more times and they are great. I still get hugs, which I very much appreciate. It just really helps make me feel that I am not alone in going through this journey with Suki. Thank you so much.

I went there for one thing and they found so many things wrong with my dog. They saved my dog's life so I cant thank them enough. Very expensive and you have to pay up front before taking your dog, but a life doesnt have a price tag. They gave me updates throughout the day and didnt mind that I called all day and night. Definitely recommended. Dr Gerber and Dr Stauswere both awesome

As far as an animal ER goes top notch. Sometimes will have a bit of a wait and will be pricey but nothing out of character for an ER service. Overall one of the best ER's in my area.

Took our cat due to ingested string. Dr. Davis was exceptional. She was very insightful, took the time to explain options benefits and risks. You can tell her and the staff work very hard with limited resources to do the best for animals.

I brought my 17 year old diabetic cat there many times in the middle of the night when she's too low or too high to regulate herself. One night she even had a grand mal seizure right in their parking lot (while we were bringing her inside). They saved her life countless times. Unfortunately, this past November we saw her health deteriorating rapidly and on Thanksgiving morning we had to bring her in and make the heart wrenching decision to put her to sleep. The doctors and staff couldn't have been more comforting and helpful on her last day. So glad leave nearby a 24 hour animal emergency room. She would not have lived as long as she did without them. Knocking off one star because the prices leave deeeeeeep holes in your pockets.

Brought my cat, Jackie, back during the summer (August) because she was sick. I couldn't pay upfront and I said "I will come back in September 1". The doctor told that she would be good as dead during that time. Jackie is still alive and healthy. I had to treat her at myself. Poor staff and Service. They didn't accept my pet insurance.

My dog has heart murmur and have other dogs with heart disease that passed. Dr peddle saw my dog for echocardiogram it was 600.00 and we have him on pemobendan that has him doing well the last 6 months.
I have followed dr peddle from his previous hospital with my other pets and received really good care. Heart disease Is common in chihuahua breed watch for shortness of breath coughing lethargy..
Now that I have moved vets in my area are really wanting to charge for things my pet has already been seen for or doesn t need plus X-rays he doesn t need. So I have been calling around and asking for prices. That s what it s come to..call for prices ..and get second opinions. If it s routine care an emergency clinic can charge more this is what I was told by a vet in my area.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. DO NOT T...

If I could give them zero stars, I would. DO NOT TRUST WITH YOUR ANIMALS. I got my cat's leg amputated because of cancer at another vet on a Friday. He was not doing well on Saturday and needed 24 hour care so they suggested AERA. I took him there and he had a number of issues. They did what they could in emergency care and switched him to internal medicine at noon on Monday. I called at 6PM that day and it was clear Dr. Strauss still hadn't seen him. He had to put me on hold to read the chart and kept slipping and calling him a dog. I was upset about that and decided to call my regular vet in the morning to ask where I should transfer him to because I didn't trust Strauss. Strauss called in the morning and told me my cat had a bacterial infection and then said that talking to me wasn't going to help anything, which confirmed my need to transfer him. I mentioned him eating because by that time it had been 4 days since he'd eaten. Strauss told me that eating wasn't important. They hadn't thought to put a feeding tube in him after he wouldn't eat regular food. When I picked him up, he was so bloated that he was at least 2-3 lbs heavier than when I dropped him off. He reeked of urine and there was blood on his leg that had been there since Saturday. He spent the entire ride screaming in pain. When I got to the other place, it took them an hour to come up with a laundry list of things that were wrong and told me they'd be willing to fight but the prognosis wasn't good. I drove back to put him down and asked for a little time with him before doing it. I took him out of his carrier and he was screaming in a way I had never heard an animal scream. I put him back in and called to say that I didn't want anymore private time with him because he was in too much pain and I didn't want him to go through anymore. In the time it took me to call the vet and take him out of the car, he died. I fully believe that their gross negligence killed my cat. The surgery was supposed to give me many more years with him and instead he died in extreme pain and was stuck in a place that wasn't taking proper care of him. Also, I was told that Strauss would charge $200-$300 to see him and that nothing else would be done without talking to me and when I was given the fees before picking him up, his part of the fees was over $1,600. Only thing I'll give the place is that the oncologist, Dr. Alsarraf was very good. I'm putting that it was of poor value because he never got the care I was paying them thousands of dollars for. If he was saved, I wouldn't complain as much about the charges as much

I rescue outdoor cats and had an after hours emergency. The office was quick to get the cat into an exam room but after they took her back things took a really long time. The cat appeared to be very pregnant and in distress, so I was concerned that the babies may be stuck or there could be a problem.....so I was concerned about the amount of time it was taking to fully examine the issue. About an hour in I asked for an update, and explained that I needed to know if she needed surgery. The front desk informed me that they didn't have a surgeon on staff! the emergency hospital wasn't able to do a surgery if I needed, but still encouraged me to come there when I called and explained that I had a cat that may need an emergency c- section. The doctor was very nice, and the cat wound up having cancer and had to be pts.....but had she been pregnant I would have had to go to a second emergency vet and pay a separate fee since they don't always staff a surgeon. Please ask if they have one staffed before you take an animal in for urgent care.

On April 30th, I took my dog in the ER of AERA and met Dr. Katherine Anneback. She asked what brought us in and I told her that my 7yearold dog had a growth on the right side of his butt, that his primary Vet diagnosed as a Perineal Hernia and referred me to AERA. After a few minutes of looking at him and complaining that he was aggressive, she left the room and returned with a quote of the exam, a whopping $1040+ which was to be paid immediately. I asked for a breakdown because I was not prepared to pay that during that visit, so she recommended I applied for the CareCredit. Her demeanor seemed to change when I got concerned about cost. Eventually I told her to proceed with the exam which apparently would take a couple hours. I left to have lunch with my mother. During lunch, I received a call from Katherine who confirmed a double perineal hernia and asked if I wanted her to clean the poop that was stuck in him. I asked how long would that procedure be and what would it cost, she abruptly said another $1,000 or so because he will have to stay overnight. At that point I felt like I was being milked and they were trying to make as much money off of my dog and I, so I said no and went for my dog. When I was paying, the total charge came up to $925.33 for the exam, 2 xrays (3 but Katherine said the third was charity), and some medication they gave me to take home which hadn t even been used. When Katherine brought my dog in to me, she suggested that I brought my dog in again the following day to meet with the surgeon, (even though the surgeon already examined him during that visit). I asked why did the surgeon need to exam him again, Katherine said he didn t need to be examined again but the surgeon wanted to speak with me before they schedule the surgery and that consultation was $300. $300.00!!!! JUST FOR ME TO COME IN BECAUSE THE SURGEON WANTED TO SPEAK WITH ME AND WASN'T EVEN TOUCHING MY DOG!!! I don t understand why he couldn t come while we were there or tell us over the phone, I guess he had to make his cut some how. Then she tells me the actual surgery would be $6,000+ and I would have to pay out of pocket the full balance the day I pick up my dog. Seriously absurd! I requested a copy of all my dog s records and xrays, but she didn t seem excited about giving me the xrays, so the nurse put the xrays on a disc and gave it to me. I paid and left.

I took him to ORADELL ANIMAL HOSPITAL who charged me only $3,826 for everything, including the consultation and 2 over night stays!

That s half of what AERA was charging me!

IF YOU BRING YOUR FUR BABIES TO AERA, BE PREPARED TO BE ROBBED!

I am so disappointed with this animal ER center. I brought in my dog on the advice of my regular vet as an emergency and all they did the entire time there for 30 hours was to observe her. I wanted to take my dog home rather than having an overnight stay because it was very expensive but the doctor strongly recommended an overnight observation.
My primary disappointment comes from a total lack of communication from this facility. NO ONE ever call me to updated on my dog even though they told me wait in the parking lot. No one was allowed in due to the pandemic which I understand fully. The 30 hours that my dog spent her time in there I had to call and beg for updates. I don't understand this facility at all. I can't see, hear or speak to my dog and the only way is to wait for someone at the hospital to contact me and update me on the status of my dog but ON ONE ever called me. I had to call every 2-3 hours for an update then I had to wait another 1 or 2 for the doctor to call me back.
My dog is a member of my family and this hospital totally ignored me as a pet parent. The only time they called me was at 10 PM to ask for a 80% deposit down for my dog ( my dog was admitted around 10:30 AM). Final conversation with the doctor prior to discharge, I asked if my dog still had her symptom and the doctor said she didn't notice any so I believed her thinking that everything was alright. After I paid my invoice over the phone and they took my dog and the invoice out to me I was appalled that she was covered in mucus from her nostrils and dried up snot all over her face. No one even bothered to wipe off the mucus from her nose that was dripping down. I had to ask the staff to wipe it off. The doctor never looked at my dog nor read her full medical history, just checked her chart most likely.
This place is a nightmare not a ER hospital. NO ONE should go through what I had to go through the last two days. On top of it all the next day my dog got more sicker. They said to call my regular vet. I paid all that money so that they can put her in the kennel for 30 hours and not do a damn thing! I do not recommend this place at all. Find somewhere else to take your family member!

UPDATE: My dog was discharged on Friday evening and on Wednesday she passed away. This hospital should have tried to reduce her suffering but instead they only saw her as a dollar sign. I am truly disturbed by this place.

My grandmothers dog, Sasha, of 13 years passed at home pretty unexpectedly. This has never happened to me so I genuinely didn t know what to do. I called our vet but they were closed (Sunday night at 10pm), but the answering service said to call AERA in case of an emergency.

Roz from AERA was EXTREMELY comforting with proving us with information and helping us get Sasha in so we can have arrangements made.

We lost a family member and office and Roz helped us during a very sad and difficult night.

10 stars.

My sister was referred to Dr. Alsarraf by her own veterinarian because her kitty has lymphoma. The vet was kind enough to set up the appointment with Dr. Alsarraf s office. When my sister arrived for her 5pm appointment she was scolded by Dr. Alsarraf for not calling herself to set up the appointment. My sister tried to explain that she did not know she needed to call because her vet had set up the appointment for her. She was still scolded so more. When the conversation finally moved towards discussing my sister s kitty s well being, Dr. Alsarraf was cold and condescending when speaking with my sister about treatment options. My sister left the appointment sick to her stomach. The next morning we contacted the office and spoke to Dr. Alsarraf s technician, Ashley, to tell her of the horrible way my sister and her cat were treated. Ashley was equally dismissive and rude and said we were nice enough to squeeze you in after a very hectic day. The appointment was at 5pm not 10pm. If you read the website it says 24/7 care no appointment needed. We told Ashley she and Dr. Alsarraf would not be laying a finger on our kitty. Stay away from this miserable place! They are not the only game in town! Shop around for compassionate care, especially when dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

OK first let me say that I am just reviewing Dr. Levine's (Behavior) portion of this hospital. I would say that the hospital looks clean and everyone else here that I have dealt with has been very nice and helpful...however...Dr. Levine and her assistant Donna are just plain rude and unhelpful. Long story short, my cat stresses very easily and has been on fluoxitine (Prozac) for the past year. It has helped him tremendously.

For the past year I would start running low on pills and call the pharmacy to renew the script. No problems. Last week we started running low on his meds, so I called the CVS to renew it. They had to call Dr Levine to get authorization to renew. Everyday I would call the pharmacy and the meds would not be ready so after a week, I call Ms. Donna. She tells me that I haven't been in to see Dr. Levine in over a year and that the only way she will refill the script is if we go in and have our cat evaluated again...to the tune of $400. Now keep in mind that we already had to pay $400 last year to get the prescription. No one told us that we would have to bring him in to renew his prescription, and I certainly wouldn't have waited until the meds were almost out to make the appointment. Furthermore, "Dr" Levine's office never contacted me to tell me that they were not going to renew the prescription. Donna told me that usually people call when their pet's meds run out.

So now I am left scrambling to find a doctor that will fill my cats prescription and not charge me $400 to do so. Thanks a lot Dr. Levine. You are obviously an animal lover. I'm not so sure sarcasm translates well in type.

Doctor Strauss helped save my chihuahuas life twice. Once, several years ago on Easter Sunday, he needed a blocked and punctured intestine partially removed, and recently, when his liver enzymes were so high my local vet told me it had to be cancer. His testing, diagnosis, and treatment of the liver issue was logical and straight-forward. He ran tests, diagnosed, and treated. His liver enzymes are now normal.
For those complaining about price, I don't know what to say. It's an emergency hospital staffed 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. When it comes to my pets health and the need for immediate medical attention, price is usually the last thing on my mind.
The quality of care and knowledge here is outstanding, and that's why I have and will continue to use them.

I cant say enough about the Doctors here. I brought my 11 year old Beagle Rusty here. It was Not a good day. Rusty was gravely ill and Unfortunately i had to put him down. The staff was sincerely compassionate about our feelings.

What a stressful experience.

What a stressful experience.
My 3 yr old female pit bull ate a one ounce block of mouse poison and broke out in hives. When I realized what happen and how she swelled up and was in discomfort, I immediately took her to the animal hospital.
I then had to call poison control and pay $60 for a case number for the vet. Poison control asked me a series of questions about the poison she ingested. (So grab the bag and bring it with you)
The vet reviews the case number and treats your pet accordingly
Luckily, my pet didnt digest enough poison and simply had an allergic reaction. Was given two injections and taken home.
She is acting normally, but still recovering and still has some signs (lumps) on her.

Overall this experience cost me $325 for the hospital and $60 for poison control.
My advise: pay to exterminate the mice and dont put down mouse poison.

Our pup was vomiting and wasn t able to stand up on her own. Our regular vet is an hour away and we didn t want to risk that long of a drive just in case it was serious. We called ahead, they took our information over the phone, and got her right in when we got there. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances we are in right now we had to wait outside for the vet to call. They were running on an hour wait so it was a while before we heard anything but I was glad they took her in to evaluate right away. After running some tests they gave her anti-nausea meds and sent us on our way. A few hours later she was still vomiting. We called back and they suggested we come back in with her. She ended up having to stay overnight, after running some further tests that I had declined earlier in the day. It was a bit difficult to get in touch with the vet to see how our pup was doing but they were very busy taking care of a lot of pets (running on a 4 hour wait). We are SO grateful to the staff who took care of our girl and got her on the mend. The vet was very professional and answered our thousands of questions (we are new pet parents!) We will definitely bring her back here if the need arises in the future! Thank you for all you do!

They are the WORST, Dr. Wolff lied to Me then proceeded to KILL my Dog. They facts are THIS. I came 30mins away late night with my very Ill Dog via a Lyft as I don't drive . Mind you I live in Newark a transplant originally from Maywood,NJ. I arrive myself my 3 son's and our Dog. We are all completely distraught because we've had our Dog 10 yrs. We're all crying trying to talk to the EVIL DR.WOLFF and ask questions and get answers. She seems rather nice but NOT really something ISN'T settling well between her and I. Like I said She was pretending to but I didn't feel any compassion for Us the family. The EVIL DR. WOLFF came BACK after examining our DOG and what she would say next would shock me. I'm told that my DOG has had a Stroke as well as having a Brain Tumor ALL in an EXAM that took 15mins. Or less but my next question was Ok HOW do I make my Dog who's name is Butta comfortable at Home. The next word's that come out OF the DOG Murders Mouth were you'll have TO Put him down. My Son's AND myself next question is what do we do TO get his Ashes BACK. Several Times we asked this question. The DOG MURDER DR. WOLFF LIED AND REASSURED US THAT WE WOULD GET BUTTA'S ASHES BACK. This happened the Friday night into Saturday after Thanksgiving. So Tuesday I call MURDER GENERAL FOR PET'S. THAT'S WHAT I CALL THEM. BECAUSE I'VE GOTTEN MYSELF TOGETHER TO CALL TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY BUTTA. I'M TOLD IN THE COLDEST MANNER THAT I SIGNED OFF ON A GROUP CREMATION. I SAID COULD YOU PLEASE REPEAT YOURSELF. SHE RUDELY REPEATED THAT I SIGNED OFF ON A GROUP CREMATION. MIND YOU I ONLY WAS GIVEN A COPY OF MY BILL WHICH WAS FOR $407.00. NOW I'M livid, I ask to speak TO a Manager. I'm told that the manager is gone for the day. It's a Tuesday about 3:30pm. Instead the Supervisor FOR get this the Receptionist's speaks to Me well SHE too starts OFF rather nasty. But SHE tells me she'll CALL to and if they haven't done the creation she'll have him held. I CALL back in 30mins. The Young lady's entire tone as well as demeanor was very compassionate AND caring from the initial conversation. SHE TOLD Me something the Murdering Dr. WOLFF, neglected to tell Me. WHICH WAS they could have held my DOG for a few day's. So they can send me a Bill till the day I DIE and they'll NVR GET a cent from me. DR. WOLFF is a Liar and SHE doesn't give YOU all the information SHE can give. Hope someone tells YOU WHAT YOU did to my Family. YOU remember my screams when my Butta stopped breathing. I NVR thought FOR 1 instance my Butta wasn't going Home. I could have taken MY BUTTA Home and made proper arrangements. NOW your OUT of $407 and my DOG is Dead. YOU could have just sent him BACK home. YOU don't GET a cab in the middle OF the night ride 30mins from where YOU live. Then Sign OFF on a GROUP CREMATION. WHEN I WAS TOLD THAT I FELL TO MY KNEES. MY KID'S ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE.

Dr. Hunt and his staff are very caring for our needs. They provided every detail of what they were going to do. Knowing that that was a procedure that he said he would do if it was his dog made us go through with the surgery. Thank you Dr. Hunt.

We brought our four year old schnauzer to the hospital for emergency treatment for an infection after our personal vet recommended ICU for closer monitoring. I was given an estimate ranging from 1-4 days of care, and a very optimistic outlook from their doctors. 8 hours later, I was told to come pick up my dog because they didn't have enough specialists. We brought our boy up to Oradell and were charged 1800 for 8 hours of diagnostic treatment. At Oradell, they leveled with our family and told us that it would take no less than 10k and a small miracle to keep our dog alive ( without any specialists opinion.) Unfortunately we had no choice but to put our guy to sleep. AERA lied about the severity of our dog's health, charged us a ridiculous amount of money for a short stay, and sent us off with hope to another emergency clinic who was not afraid to level with us, and charged less than $400. Avoid AERA, they do not have a full staff at this time, and you and your animal will be better off with Oradell Animal Hospital for emergency treatment.

Horrible experience...what kind of emergency facility can't do emergency surgery? I was told one surgeon was on vacation and the other was an hour away. More frustrating is that I called ahead before I came in. Shouldn't they have told me on the phone that they couldn't (or wouldn't) do the surgery? Beware!!!!

Don't go here unless it's an absolute emergency. I called ahead to confirm if I needed to make an appointment to get my dogs stitches removed. The receptionist told me no just stop by anytime and the doctor will see you right away. She said it in a tone like it was an absurd question to ask. The day comes to get my dogs stitches removed and they ask "did you make an appointment?!" and then proceeded to tell me they were at capacity and it would be a several hour wait.

They wasted my time and try to squeeze every drop of money out of you based on your emotions. The doctor speaks to you like you did something wrong. Be prepared to be treated like a toddler and have your time disrespected because of their own mistakes.

Went overnight and was told the wait time would be several hours. One man waited in his car for over 3 hours and wasn't finished yet. Wish it was better staffed because it is an excellent facility with very caring staff.

Miracle workers. Great docs, great staff. Have been bringing my dog here for various emergencies for 10 years. Now she has congestive heart failure and the vet cardiologist has worked wonders. I am very grateful for AERS.

My dog had a anaphylactic reaction to a vaccine around 4am, and thank goodness these guys were open!! He was treated quickly, and is getting back to his old self again.

The staff is very professional, kind, and knowledgeable, and the facility is clean and organized.

Again, thank goodness they are open and close by!!

I dont hide my name that shows you I tell the truth. This place is overpriced and had the nerve to call the police on me since I would not wait in my car. They deny it. They over charged me that is why the Police came. I don't know any law stating I cannot wait outside. 2 hours and $500 and almost arrest. I tell you to stay away. They deny calling the police. I told 2 customers they over charge that is why they lied to the police. Stay away. Ken Sutiak

Although our visit here was sad, Dr Bernstein and the staff made this a much easier, pleasant experience. She was knowledgeable, understanding, and kind. Her technicians also went above and beyond for me and I appreciated the care they showed me and my dog.

We find Dr. Schott to be an excellent veterinarian. We took our Bitsy there the other day and the vet who diagnosed her eye condition (Dr. Schott was on vacation) was also excellent. We also like the staff, animal lovers all. Our vet bills are high, but they are everywhere in New Jersey. And our dogs are aging, so they need more skilled care. But we knew that going in and will continue to bring them to AHSC regardless of the cost. They mean the world to us.

I rushed my pitbull there on Friday. May 3 for a injured paw.
We first told the bill would be $916. When we pick him up there was an additional $60 charge for 2 different medications. I was told the meds were not added. However they were on the bill as part of the agreement.
On May 14th we returned for a follow up.
We were told the visit was free but I had to pay for the meds. This time $100.
How did the same medication, same number of pills just for the antibiotic, more then double.
Furthermore, he developed an infection due to the wet conditions. It was actively raining. We were told to keep his paw dry yet sent out in the rain with nothing to keep it dry.

Makes me question ever going back. To many things not adding up to help a pet parent.

I brought my dog River in for emergency treatment, she was very well taken care of and the staff was very nice and even let me go say goodnight to her since I had to leave her overnight. The discharge instructions were specific and detailed and really made bringing her home post-op easy. I was very stressed about her condition but the doctor took time to meet with me and explain things before I left her.

My experience here was absolutely wonderful. The Doctor's and staff were phenomenal with my little Yorkie Jake. I rushed him over there early in the morning this week at about 2:30 AM. Jake has a Trachea Collapse and he was having problems catching his breath and couldn't stop coughing. I was so worried about him. From the front desk Receptionist too the Tech and the Veterinarian he saw Dr Jinita Patel-MacArthur they were all amazing and extremely patient. I went over all my concerns and all the medication Jake is currently on. That morning nothing was helping him. The Dr was able too give Jake an injection too calm him down and help him. Thank you so very much for taking care of Jake that night. I am eternally grateful as is Jake :)

look, my kitties have both have to go there, unfortunately. Are they perfect? are they the cheapest? the answer is no, but our pets cannot talk and it is always a bit of a guessing game. I felt that people genuinely gave a damn and worked with me to find the best solutions. It was a huge relief in times of Covi-19, closed and less than functioning vet offices to know that we can bring the cats, follow the diagnosis and get a treatment. They worled for us

This will be kind of long... bear with me. Is this place expensive? Yes. Is it absolutely worth it? YES.

I was referred here by my trusted family vet in Sussex County to handle my Presa Canario's ACL tear. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH NICE THINGS about Dr. Brophy and the surgical staff! My dog is such an important part of my family... he is fiercely loyal to us, but is very protective of himself and has some fear based anxiety issues that were exacerbated by his injury. During our first appointment, Dr. Brophy immediately made us feel very confident that we had made the right choice in bringing him to AERC- he spent time letting our dog become as comfortable as possible around him before examining him. Dr. Brophy explained the entire procedure and made sure all of our questions were answered, and that our expectations were set appropriately. The procedure went incredibly well, and Dr. Brophy worked with us in a very thoughtful way to eliminate fear/anxiety at follow up visits. Our dog's recovery was going extremely smoothly, until, to our complete dismay, his other ACL (which was compromised due to compensation during his original injury and subsequent recovery), also completely detached. We didn't hesitate to bring him back to Dr. Brophy and his staff. We've now been through 2 ACL surgeries, and I don't know if I could trust anybody more than I trust Dr. Brophy and his staff with my 140 lb baby. It was worth the $$, it was worth the commute, and I am so thankful.

Went here after business hours with my sick cat. Was over charged, not given any Rx to take home, my cat was still sick. They wanted to put my cat to sleep without my permission. Kept him for couple hours refusing to let me see him although they wanted to put him to sleep. After sitting ard for abt three hrs they half-heartedly sedated him, gave him meds to stop the vomiting and temporarily relieved his urinary blockage. Afterward, still had to take him to another vet for take home meds. And was billed close to $700 for weak service.

We had to go here because of a traumatic wound a dog of mine suffered. With their guidance, he came out okay.

Then months later, he was in need of a major surgery. Due to his age, we had many concerns. The surgeon kept it straight with us which was greatly appreciated. We went through with the surgery and our pup is still moving around and about today with his issue gone.

I would definitely recommend this place.

When you find your pet in a life or death situatio...

When you find your pet in a life or death situation AERA in Fairfield is the only place to go. They will make your pet's welfare top priority, everything will be explained, possible scenarios, cost ranges, and they will call you frequently to keep you current on your pet's status. They abide by Covid guidelines. The doctors and techs are all caring people, and their specialists are wonderful. Having arrived there in a panic with 3 different emergency situations in the past 12 years, each time they immediately attended to and saved my pets' lives. Cannot recommend enough.

All I can say, without making a whole story out of...

All I can say, without making a whole story out of it, is that I wish all animal hospitals and vet practices would be as friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating as them. Dr. Alssaraf (and all the oncology department staff ),was better not only than most of the vets so far,but than human doctors as well.
Regardless on the outcome for my beloved pet, I trust they'll do their best to help her out.
Important note: as my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma( a type of cancer which if left untreated will give you about 2 months with your fur baby), o called every hospital on an area of 100 miles from where I live, and all of them said they're booked, and the earliest they can schedule me would have been about 2 weeks from the diagnose. Well, that would have been too late, as if you decide to do the chemo therapy, it should be started asap. Then I called here, and the receptionist told me the same thing , that they are booked, but she showed concern about my pet and asked me what's wrong with it.when she heard the problem, she put me on a brief hold, and after consulting with the doctor, she gave ma an appointment for the second day. Now that's what I call service and compassion.

Saw a Dr that was new. First night on the job. Neither lady at the front desk knew anything about him. They weren't even sure of his name. He sucked. I mean he really sucked. Wound up having the receptionist call a supervisor. Paged him and he calls the desk to see what she wants. He asks her to ask me why I needed to see him. Why couldn't he come and ask me? He acted like I was interrupting nap time. In the end he was much better than the new guy. The staff lacks any kind of personality or emotion and pretty much just talk to you as if they are reading from a script. If the person or company that owns this place actually cared about their business, they'd begin working on a way to improve, starting with the staff. I would never recommend this place. Never in a million year's. From start to finish it was a disaster and I regret doing business with them.

if your pet is having an emergency, honestly better to wait it out or drive the extra 10 minutes elsewhere.

vet told me my dog was "difficult and hard to handle "... after the visit I noticed her tail was broken. called the director and informed her, they said theyd call me back and never did.

They are required to tell you the emergency fee cost at the time of walk in or on the phone.which they didnt, I stated how this was not fair since I was unaware, The vet then said "Its really not alot to ask for considering how difficult and hard to handle your dog was " ... maybe if your dog is easy to handle it will be cheaper!!!

took her bc she got sprayed in the face with a skunk and I was worried bc she was itching her eyes. We were not allowed in the waiting room due to the smell (totally understandable.. until we ACTUALLY WERE allowed in the waiting room )and had to wait in the cold and rain in the middle of the night. When it was time to pay, I asked them to bill it to my house since I wasn't allowed inside.... all of a sudden... I WAS allowed inside.... and it took about 45 minutes for the cost to be sorted... they reduced the price since they knew it was wrong not telling me when I first walked in... still had to take my pup to her actual vet for her broken tail :(((((
