From the time I walked through the doors, everyone was so compassionet and caring. Christie and Alexus did a fantastic job keeping me comfortable after my surgery on my back. What an amazing team at Rex! Thanks to all of you!

Had my back surgery done here on July 29th, left the 30th. Had complications and went to my local hospital on Saturday. My hospital told me there was nothing wrong and sent me home. Come Monday, my doctor told me to go back to the ER at Rex and tell them what's going on. I was admitted again that and had another surgery the following morning. Every doctor, nurse, and tech took wonderful care of me. My favorite nurses were Marissa, Brianna, and Krista. And my favorite tech was Kim. Not only did they take great care of me, they made me feel like I was family. Even though I live over an hour away, if I, or any of my family ever has to go to a hospital again, we will go to Rex.

Dr. Nemani with Raleigh Orthopedics completed spine surgery on me at Rex Hospital on 4/10/2018. The hospital used another doctor to monitor my nerves from Choice Neurodiagnostics LLC. I had no idea that that they were out of network with BCBSNC. Who is out of network with bcbsnc? So, after paying my out of pocket limit, I received a bill from this out of network provider. I called the insurance company, Raleigh ortho, and the hospital. The hospital is responsible for this person according to Raleigh ortho. But they refuse to acknowledge any of it. If they want me to keep silent and ever consider using them for anything, they need to contact me and pay for the amount the debt collector is asking for $925.00. For us that is a considerable amount of money. I would recommend that you stay away from REX HOSPITAL if you don't want any surprises for your financial future. I'm certainly not one to review anything much but this platform is the only complaint department that I could find.

Thank you for listening!

Went to the emergency center for severe abdominal pain that had been plaguing me for months. Left with no guidance on my situation except for the fact that I do in fact have pain. This was a stressful, extremely painful and aggravating way to spend 5 hours in the middle of the night.

What I like about it is that they keep all of their patients in good care. And even if they loose a patient they will give sympathy to the family. There food is always delicious. They are totally the best hospital.

My husband had to have Heart Surgery here last month and if I could say anything about this hospital, the nursing staff, doctors and all over staff were Fantastic!! Not only do they make sure that the patient is taken care of,but they make sure that the family member is taken care of as well!! I would highly recommend this hospital to everyone that's in need of all of their health care

Dr. Flemming saw my partner, Shirley Samit, in the Rex ER and immediately nailed her ailment (shingles, even though she had had a shingles shot a year ago!). Dr. was personable, sharp, very professional. We liked all the staff. Thanks.

We needed to take our child to the ER for ingesting something that poison control wasn't sure either way it would effect him. After waiting 3 and a half hours in the waiting room, we were shown to a room in which we were told by the doctor, we're not sure either way, but we can't take you in because we don't have a pediatric ward. We'll transfer you to Wake Med.

For this pleasure, we received a bill from Rex for over $1600, with one line: "ER level 4". I looked this up and this level of treatment bears no resemblance to what was done. I asked for a detailed invoice and was told, that IS the detailed invoice. I objected several times over the phone and UNC Billing messages and was ignored when I challenged the medical coding for this visit. We received L1 or at most - stretch of the imagination - L2 treatment. I simply refused to pay until I got more clear answers, but after perhaps 15 to 20 rounds of email messages and phone calls, I simply got nowhere, questions were ignored, and we kept receiving bills, eventually (obviously) threatening collections. That was the brilliant conclusion to the process - expect the customer to blindly, cowishly accept whatever we say they owe, ignore the customer's reasonable, well-articulated questions, until we can threaten them with collections.

The entire attitude both during the visit and afterwards with billing was arrogant and incompetent. When I asked very simple, basic diagnostic questions about what we were paying for and why, I was met with silence. This hubris will come back around to the organization; an organization THIS poorly managed and operated can't compete. I'd put it back on the physicians and administrators who let this type of service and billing occur: Would you build a house and accept an invoice from your general contractor saying: "House, $500,000, please pay immediately". Would you ask questions? Would you want a bit more detail about the subcontracting and inspections completed? If your contractor said "4000 sq ft house, $500,000" but you walk around, measure a bit, and it's clearly a 2000 sq ft house, would you expect to just pay blindly because the invoice says it was 4000 sq ft?

I don't see why this is any different. Medical care is a service. The customer deserves (and is, as far as I understand, holds a legal right to) absolute transparency no differently than any other product or service. I should understand precisely what I'm being billed for, not just "1 house" or "ER Visit". Intake? Medical supplies? Facility charges? Consultation? I also should have every right to object, that the services billed differ from the services received. The service delivery and billing system simply is blind, deaf and dumb to any such possibility. This almost certainly runs afoul of legal obligations on the part of Rex, but the billings are just not large enough to justify engaging legal counsel, nor even taking it to small claims court. But in 2016, I should not need to rely on either extreme option to ask some questions about the detailed billings, challenge what was recorded, and at least ask the service provider to justify in detail what they perceive was provided - what we were billed for - and why - and expect a reasonable, clear answer. There should be a well-defined escalation path for these types of issues.

I've learned a valuable lesson: We will not be going back to Rex. We will advise family, neighbors and coworkers against it.

Rex: you need to fix your business. It's broken. Find competent management and move forward.

I had this doctor named Craig and I was not satisfied with him. I have in the past self harmed and am very self conscious about the scars. The past two times I ve seen him he s pointed the scars out which makes me very uncomfortable and embarrassed. He all around is not very nice in fact quiet rude. When he exited the room he slammed the door which is no way to treat a patient.

Great care. The professionals at Rex are concerned with your health and your care. The nurses are top notch and could not have been more thoughtful or helpful. There was one clinker however. After my hip replacement surgery one of my caregivers, a nurses assistant, appeared to me to be very glum and unfriendly. She gave the impression that she resented being there and really wanted nothing to do with patients. Her first name was Michelle. While removing an IV needle she managed to cause a good deal of unnecessary pain and subsequent bruising and the injection site. I wasn't sure whether it was purposeful or merely a consequence of incompetence but either way this young woman needs training and or guidance. I hope someone at Rex reads this and takes action

My wife went into surgery for a 3-4 hours surgery ...

My wife went into surgery for a 3-4 hours surgery which lasted 6.5 hours, this was needed and she has an excellent surgeon. Recovery was to be a couple of hours, it lasted more and then the news came she will be going to ICU: I asked to see her and my request was denied, the nursing supervisor mentioning HIPPA!
Again in the ICU, we had to enter her room from an outside door and if we needed to use the bathroom we could not use the one on the unit we had to walk a long corridor to the public ones, again HIPPA!
Then while in her room, I observed 6 visitors walking inside the unit, passing by my wife's room and congregating in from of a room nextdoor. Their pic is on my page in FB and this is HIPPA for Rex.
The nursing staff in the ICU and on 6th floor are wonderful, compassionate and professional. I will refrain to describe the one in recovery! Shame on you!

Slow as molasses. Slow to admit my wife who damn near passed out when her blood pressure dropped to below 80, while she was waiting 4 hours to be seen after triage! First triage nurse didn't take her blood which was a clear mistake because we came for a kidney infection and the doctor was worried she might actually be in danger of being septic. Walking through the hospital, everyone is SLOW SLOW SLOW. Never seen an emergency department so absent of urgency of action. Slow aides, slow clerks, slow nurses, slow slow slow. The nurse that came in for nightshift (Leslie) was the only good part of the experience only reason for 2 stars, even then it was another 4 hours before she could be taken home. Just the total slowness of the majority of the hospital is the main reason you should avoid.

ER
I sustained an open tib /fib fracture and came to ER via ambulance. I was immediately placed in a bay and was greeted by a nurse. Dr arrived within ten minutes. Unfortunately, all the pain meds I had on board when they decided to attempt to reduce the fracture was fentanyl given in the ambulance. They decided to give morphine, but continued with manual traction and repositioning of broken bones to allow for a splint to be placed without waiting for the morphine to take effect. At least portable x-rays were performed immediately afterwards. My request for surgery to be delayed until the morning was taken into consideration even if the ER doc wasn't too impressed by my explanation that I didn't want emergency surgery by a surgeon who already had a 10+ hour day.
1.5 hours later they give me more pain meds (hydromorphone this time as apparently they recognized the morphine was insufficient), and after they took effect they irrigated the fracture site and try to reduce the fracture yet again. Still not enough pain meds to make tugging on and repositioning broken bones in a leg that is swelling about twice it's normal size tolerable, so sorry to anyone who was disturbing by my screaming.
Tl;dr- Was seen and treated immediately in ER, but at the expense of pain management. Redefined 10/10 pain for me and possibly those in surrounding bays.

I had great nurses, aids, techs, and housekeeping so idk where all these negative reviews are from. Everyone was great at explaining things, but sometimes didn't have accurate information from the drs/other departments/ ect. There was sometimes a 10 minute wait if call button was used around the hour mark & the nurse was busy with other patients. When I refused a Foley catheter at 2am and asked to have it placed closer to surgery, the nurse passed on my request without issues. Only issue I have is I was not allowed to shower before discharge, even though I was allowed to walk and the shower had the bench and handheld head that would have made showering there much safer.

Food
It's pretty terrible. Worse than public schools, college dorms & buffet restaurants. Additionally, there's very limited options, and lunch and dinner options are the same for that day since they're continuous service. The vegetarian options are pb&j or a salad, which is fewer and worse options than even most steakhouses.

Surgery
I met the night anesthesiologist when transferring from the ER, and saw both him and the day shift anesthesiologist in pre-op. Both were friendly, clearly explained their plans, and answered questions. The pre-op nurse was also friendly and helpful. However, I literally met the surgeon and was told what procedure he was going to perform and what hardware was going to be used when the anesthesiologist had to go find him so that I could sign the surgical release form prior to being sedated for surgery. The nurse asked if I would sign the release form stating that I had been told about the procedure, risks, and potential complications without actually meeting the surgeon and discussing it with him. I'm not sure if my expression or his own common sense had the anesthesiologist shutting down that suggestion real quick.

The post-op nurses weren't as personable and it was very tiring to hear them repeatedly tell another patient to not to get up/remove their IV as they were just getting out of surgery (about 15 times in a ten minute period). I wasn't monitored very closely, even though I received 3-4 pain meds in post op and my anesthetic regimen contained ketamine which is not reversible. Also, I was transferred between a few nurses when they were trying to figure out lunch breaks. I'm not sure I would trust loved ones to that lax monitoring, but it was good enough for me. Also, family members were not allowed in post-op at that time as a prisoner and two guards were there.

Overall
Public hospital full of bureaucracy and is short staffed and underfunded.

Absolutely horrid hospital. The physicians working the Emergency Room treated me like garbage as soon as they found out that I had Medicare insurance. I suspect that some of my blood test and CT scan results were falsfied. My advise is never come here for help.

I had a horrible experience at Rex Health Care. It started when I went to the Rex Emergency Department at about noon on a Sunday. I had been having pain in my right flank for three days which was not controlled by pain pills. I had had a CT scan at another emergency room which reportedly showed nothing. In the Rex ED I was eventually seen in triage. The nurse was quite hostile because my weakness prevented me from holding my hand correctly when she was trying to take my blood pressure. She actually started yelling at me. She inquired about my pain level and I told her it was a level ten out of ten. She placed me back out in the general waiting area where I was made to wait for two hours with the most sever pain that I had ever experienced. We tried to inquire if I could be given something for pain but was just told that I would have to wait. I made a public spectacle out of myself by involuntarily screaming in pain.. After two hours I was taken back to the an ED examination bed but had to wait there untreated for about another 45- 60 minutes. When taken back to the ED bed the charge nurse came out at which point I asked if I could have something for pain. She responded unapologetically that she could not give me anything for pain until I had been seen by the doctor, The test ordered by the on call urologist revealed me to have a kidney stone which would probably need to be surgically removed.. The on call urologist Dr Brian Bennett admitted me to the hospital and started me on an intravenous solution of D5/ 0.9% saline at 200 cc/ hour and wrote an order for me to receive nothing by mouth. I asked the nurse hanging the intravenous fluid to ask the doctor, then not present if I could have something without the saline since I am a sodium sensitive hypertensive patient. She explained that the doctor ordered solution and that and that it usually agrees with people. According to the nurse Dr. Bennett had said that Dr. Totora my urologist of record would do my surgery at around 7:00 AM. Monday. Twelve hours later I had not had surgery by Dr. Totora ,had not received anything to eat and was still receiving the same intravenous fluid. Despite multiple calls to Dr. Totora's office they would not let the hospital nursing staff know if I was on Dr Totora's surgery schedule. They said that he was with patients and could not be disturbed. At one point his office said that he was actually out to lunch. At around 4:00 PM on Monday my blood pressure had gone up to around 160/96 and my pulse was 130. After I started to have shortness of breath and chest pressure I personally took the intravenous needle out of my arm. Dr Bennett was not accessible because he was in the operating room all day and his nurse would not interrupt him while he was in there.

Good luck if you need to call their billing department. Their billing department is rude, uneducated, and not helpful. Plus they make you wait on hold for 15+ minutes at any given time to allow you to be graced with their rudeness. VERY unimpressed.

Worst hospital experience ever. They don t care about the people that come in. Try to talk to them after the fact about it and they make excuses. If you want help go to another hospital where they actually treat you. When I was in triage I was very close to passing out and was green (according to triage nurse). I told them on multiple occasions I needed water and was told no because there was a high chance I need surgery. Yet I was put back in the waiting room in excruciating pain and forgotten about. I ended up leaving so I was never seen. Yet I had a large bill come in the mail. This place is a joke. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere.

The first week in January 2014 I had a very serous condition that required a very big surgery. I had the best care a patient could possibly ever hope for. Dr. Seth Weinreb with Rex Surgical Specialists is by far the most brilliant and outstanding surgeon I have ever had experience with. Also his back up surgeon, Dr. Peter Milano, provided outstanding service during anytime Dr. Weinreb had other commitments during my hospital stay. They not only repaired my issue with minimally invasive surgery but got me on my way to a speedy recovery. I have never met or been the patient of more compassionate and qualified Doctors.
Also, that does not go without saying the nurses and all staff on 7 East provided outstanding and compassionate care. They provided me with everything I needed to get on my way to a speedy recovery as well.
If anyone is in need of medical care...let me put your mind at ease and let you know this medical team is highly recommended. My experience was worthy of 5 Stars. My gratitude goes out to these Doctors, Nurses and their Team as well as Rex Hospital for retaining them.

Update: The billing supervisor ended up working with me and attempted to send the bill to the insurance company. When that did t work, he reached out to patient relations and was granted permission to write off the charge. I m glad that happened, but it was still a very long process and the hospital has some serious adjustments to make in their billing processes overall. It put unneccessary stress on me and my pregnant wife. This is why I am not upgrading the review to 5 stars, but only 4. Either way, I m just happy this billing situation is settled. Thank you Kevin, as you seemed to have been the only one attempting to fix the issue.

Avoid at all cost! UNC has a great name but that s about the extend of it. These people will not abide by their own billing contracts!!! My wife is a patient with their midwifery. They referred us to the genetic counselors due to an ultrasound result and stated that this is the next step in the procedure. This turned into a billing nightmare and showed us that UNC DOES NOT care about their pregnant patients. UNC refuses to send the genetic counseling procedure to our insurance company!!! Their patient relations rep Cordelia then had the nerves to tell us that it is our responsibility to know what our insurance covers and that it s basically our fault, completely igoring the fact that UNC DIDN T EVEN SEND IT TO OUR INSURANCE!!! How would they even know if it s covered if they don t send it??????????? She then said we had agreed to the charges by signature so I asked for a copy of that statement. The statement actually says that we agree to pay our portion of the cost, whatever the insurance doesn t pay. It also stated that we agree that our insurance pays UNC directly. Basically, it says that UNC will send it to our insurance, which they refuse! Anyway, the billing department supervisor Kevin then (after weeks of talking to him) said that he will have it sent to our insurance. Well, that was a lie because we are still receiving the bill in the mail, minus a 40% discount for being uninsured!?!? These people are liars, scammers, and absolutely pathetic!!!

Rex used to be an amazing facility but we've been very disappointed in the quality of care the few times we've been there. Most recently, The bathroom in the room was dirty when we checked my elderly grand mother in. When they took her for tests, rather then putting the sensors on her bed when they took them off, they were put on the floor & reattached to her when she came back without being sanitized. She can not walk, dress or get up without assistance & was in the same gown for a few days as well as in unchanged bed sheets. The water pitcher was empty & when she did have water, it was not placed within reach for her to get it nore was the drink glass. Her bladder bag was so full it looked like it hasn't been changed in some time. When asking the nurses for extra assistance with anything, at times they seemed irritated they were being asked & would look at their watch. These are just a small list of concerns. The nurses were working their tails off but they were short staffed & can't get to everyone to help with their needs in a timely manner. I would strongly suggest bringing candy stripers back to assist with some of the daily activities to see that all the patients can be taken care of. Not sure what's going on over there but I'm very dissatisfied with the lack of care given especially for the prices you pay for services.

Never again. That s all I can say. It s clean but the level of care from 90% of staff is seriously lacking. Took days to get simple answers. Doctor refused to even stay 5 minutes to answer patient questions. Horrible staffing except for a few great nurses

The urgent care next door was closed so my husband had to come here for a dislocated shoulder. Never again. Everyone was as slow as molasses and he had to wait around in pain for almost two hours.

My wife went to the emergency room with chest pains and sat for 4 hours after she was triazed. We ended up leaving. She looked on my chart when she got home and they lied and said she saw a Dr. Gregory James Mosteller and she didn't see nobody because we left. We'll be watching to see if the insurance was charged because if it was I'm going to contact an attorney. This used to be the best hospital and I don't understand what has happened.

Rex doesn't deserve 1 star. My grandfather who's sick and displays sundowner was verbally attach by a nurse name Sharon on the 4 hundred. I'm so dissatisfied with the staff. I wonder how can a well known hospital with well trained doctors have such staff members that do not show concern or empathy.

Although the surgeon and his team were great, staying here has been a disaster for my loved one. The air conditioner here does not work. The food is seriously lacking in nutrition and the staff changes make it so that there are large gaps of time you can t get anyone to help. The bathroom had pubic hair all over on the floor and the towels and such were full of pills... paper towels would have been softer. This is our third bad experience here over the course of five years. Just go to Wake Med. Demand that your surgeon perform there or switch doctors.

My parents are in their 80's and we have so many experiences through the years with many hospitals. I can't say enough good about the nursing staff that work on the cardiac floor. They were amazing. Their level of concern, attentiveness, skill and kindness was unlike anything we have ever experienced in any other hospital...ever.

I had a really great experience tonight. Staff was super nice, and everything moved very smoothly. Unfortunately I had to deduct one star because when I went for my MRI there was a white female who was not very friendly and made me feel like an inconvenience.

Went in for fainting and a concussion. Had a lump on the side of my head. In the triage area, they were incredibly dismissive and told me to go wait in line to get a urine sample. While I was waiting, I passed out again, again hitting my head. Then they put me in a wheelchair in a corner and I'm pretty sure forgot I was there for a while. Then they took me to a room where I waited over 3 hours for a ct scan. Doctor didn't once look at my head where I had fallen. Then, after the Ct, they came in and simply discharged me. Said they didn't know what was wrong and there was nothing else they could do. Asked them what I should do about the passing out business, and they just said to be careful standing up. I said what about driving? They told me just not to drive today, and to just rest as it will probably go away. Completely unacceptable. I'm basically leaving the hospital no better and knowing zero about what's going on. Go somewhere that actually cares. This place certainly doesn't.

Unfortunately I've had two go there 3 * since I've been in North Carolina. The first two times were good experiences. The last time was one of the most horrific experiences I've ever had at a hospital. The doctor I had on my last visit give me a medication that I didn't want that he insisted I had and I literally thought I was losing my mind and then he discharged me and kick me to the curb. I was extremely disoriented I couldn't walk right thought I was going to pass out and felt worse than I did leaving as opposed to the way I felt when I went in. So as long as I'm in North Carolina I don't think I'll be visiting that hospital anymore. I also hope I don't have to visit any Hospital anywhere.

Love Rex. Just had our second baby here and both times we had good experiences. They tend to over communicate, in a helpful way, everything a new parent needs to know. The staff seems to be ready to help and typically on top of things. Waiting, triage, delivery and recovery rooms are all comfortable and adequate for what they are. The recovery rooms have been especially pleasant. Favorite part of this hospital is the generous courtyards which kept our older son sane while visiting.

I recently had surgery at Rex the after care by the nurses was very concerning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my pain med pump PCA was not working the ENTIRE day after my surgery then the nurse tried to cover up her mistake when I was in horrible pain and telling them I thought something was wrong with the PCA unit as the alarm kept going off!!! NONE of them ever checked the amount of medication in the syringe! Because the med was in a PCA-- locked med box, it was hard for me to see being stuck in the bed when I tried to watch the units go down when I pushed the button!!! and I was feeling no effects from pushing the med pump button!!!!! Finally at 4:30 pm the same nurse opened the med box because the alarm showed it as empty but it was completely full!!!! the line was kinked so it was NOT dispensing ANY medication!!!! By the time she was trying to correct the problem I was already suffering in pain because of their mistake!! and NOT taking the time to check the equipment properly! then the nurse scanned a new medicine syringe ( I am sure charging my insurance and finally made sure the machine was working correctly but I was suffering pain because of their mistake! also when the same nurse changed my IV she didn't flush the fluid down so the line was all Air going into my vein!!!!!! I pulled the IV out of my arm to stop the flow!!! the same nurse gave me wipes full of soap after female surgery!!! really??? are you kidding me!!! I should have only been given a water bottle with plain water to cleanse with!!!! I have been in the medical field for many years this hospital care made me feel very uneasy and not safe being there. I called my husband and told him to get me the hell out of there. I told the doctor releasing me I didn't want to stay there for another minute and wanted to go home as soon as possible. of course with a nice infection from the nurse giving me scented wipes containing soap!!!!!!!!! This all happened on the 7th floor and the Asian pharmacist that works at the hospital was witness to this medication error!!!!! as she was asked by the nurse (Sandy) what she should do--- use the new full med syringe or replace the original full one that was supposed to be an empty med syringe!!! I spoke out obviously use the new one since she already opened it and scanned it!!!! I did not want her replacing the original one back in. I hope they were honest and this med error was recorded in my chart!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not have a good experience here so this would have been 2 stars. However, I met with a brilliant general surgeon here who I respect a great deal and is helping me out with a sports injury unrelated to my trip to the ER. Because of him (Dr. Weinreb) I have lifted 2 to 3 stars; however, if you go to the ER for something and are on medicines that are the type where people may judge you, expect they will not give you adequate replacement and bring your own medicine(s). They don't want you to take medicines they can give you but you will find they're not in an immediate rush to get anything to you unless you are near death or the medicine is life saving. I believe it is unfair for any physician to judge someone without adequately looking into someone's medical history to see what they are being treated for so decisions are informed and not opinionated. The rest of the staff besides the ER doctor seemed nice but I felt judged during my visit. I would give them a 2nd chance on any given emergency as you can't assume every experience is the same.

I have Kept Rex busy this year with 3 surgeries and I do Not have one complaint. I have had great experiences and no complications. Everyone did an outstanding job. I will come back if I ever have the need for their services. I definitely reccomend The healthcare system. I am blessed and thankful for Rex.

No compassion in my opinion. How can you look someone in the face that's sick and waiting for 5 hrs and lie continuously. The night shift nurses and doctors working 7p -7a on 8/21 mislead me. The doc was nice but every hour for 3+ hours (after getting a room-2hr wait) I was advised 1 more minute. The nurse apologized for misleading me then sent me back to my room for an additional hour. It makes people like Taylor and Caroline (beautiful souls) look bad. It would have been nice to be advised a realistic time. I know it must be difficult to advise of a precise time but 1 min to 2.5 hours seems ridiculous. Send out prayers for those that have to go to the emergency room.

Beyond belief bad. My wife sat in the emergency room lobby for almost 3 hours in excruciating pain. The emergency room lobby was practically empty. The few who were there appeared to have lesser problems - none in searing pain. As the pain killers wore off my wife almost passed out. I asked several times how soon. Repeatedly I was told "it won't be too long". Finally, after 2 hours and 45 minutes i noticed everyone that was in the lobby when we arrived was taken before us and othersthat arrived after were being taken. I demanded to see someone. The same blonde haired lady that did our triage said, "what's the problem?" Some triage. They still would not give us a time. My wife left in agonizing pain.

My surgery was October 25th.. I was released the next day.. My stay was awesome! I felt like I was in a hotel instead of a hospital. Dr. Deibel in my opinion the best surgeon ever & his nurses were the best. They gave me around the clock care. My pain level never went bove 2. UNC Rex will always be my choice. Thanks Dr.Deibel and staff for a pleasurable warm stay.. One more thing, the food AWESOME. Especially the Salmon. Lol

I am here at Rex hospital at this present time with my mother. The doctors are good this one particular RN Jodessa was really nice and understanding. This one cna was nice as well but very slow. One young lady at the nurses station was really nice. The rest have nasty attitudes, they are especially slow, and don't look like they really want to be at work. This hospital staff could use a lesson in politeness and learning how to smile, or learning how to deal with sick people. But mostly they are turtle slow with bad attitudes. But I understand the slowness if they are with other patience or emergencies arise as they often do. Update: the complaints team I guess you would call it came and in and all my issues were voiced and it was stated that it would be handled. Thank you !

We had my mother, first in the ER, then in a private room for 6 days. We found the staff to be caring, concerned, and very helpful. The ER wait was long with the long line of ambulances bringing in truly critical patients. Once we notified the staff that her foot was swelling from the clot in her leg we were quickly brought into and ER examining room and the doctor attended her immediately. During her 6 day stay, with her having advanced Alzheimers, she had to be fed. The staff took care of breakfast and dinner with us feeding her lunch. Never spending the night in a hospital myself, I was told how miserable hospital food tasted. Nobody told these people because the bits I tasted, the food was awesome. It's like something I'd order in a nice restaurant. The key to all this is be a patient patient, and all will work out.

What has happened to the Rex emergency room?!? Thank goodness I have not been here in years - I now go to Wake Med North when I can but tonight I was worried about a DVT in my leg and Wake North did not have a Doppler on the weekends so I called Rex and they have one.
I ve sat in the ER now for an hour and 15 minutes. It s filthy. Food all over the floor. People throwing up in the main waiting room into bags and then the people working at the reception desk telling the family of the guy throwing up to just dump his bags in the open trash can by the reception desk. Those bags have been sitting in that trash can for an hour and nobody cares. No sign of a custodian anywhere.
It s so sad. Rex has invested so much money to build their campus up but the ER is completely neglected.

**Don't go to REX ER while pregnant!!** This revie...

**Don't go to REX ER while pregnant!!** This review is about the Emergency Department. I went to the ED in June when I was 4 weeks pregnant due to severe all over body aches and an elevated temperature. Throughout my time at the ED, they did not take my temperature after my initial temp was taken when I got there and did not listen to me when I tried to tell them I was in pain and something was wrong. I requested Tylenol multiple times throughout the 4.5 hours we were there, and was told no. I finally sent my husband out to demand someone come and give me some Tylenol. The nurse came in and did give me Tylenol, then took my temperature. The first temperature she got she did not "like" (took it in my ear), which was 100.8. So she decided to instead take my temperature in my mouth, holding the thermometer barely under my tongue, and got a temp reading of 99.9. They then discharged me and sent me on my way. I took my temp. in the car after we left, and guess what, it was 100.8. UNC Rex was negligent in monitoring my temperature, especially considering I was 4 weeks pregnant. Now, our baby has Spina Bifida. I'm not saying that REX caused this to happen, what I am saying is they increased our baby's risk and potentially caused the SB by not listening to me and taking my concerns about my temperature seriously. An elevated temperature during the time when the neural tube is being developed (weeks 4-5 in pregnancy) increases risk for Spina Bifida. I will not ever go to UNC Rex for any emergency or other services again.

Been in the emergency room waiting for 3 hours to see a doctor. Labs and ultrasound done. It has been extremely unorganized and loud as I wait my turn to be helped. My blood pressure has became elevated from being in pain.

I do not like the ER,however an abnormal EKG,shortness of breath and chest pain brought me here. I waited triage nurse had me as a completely different patient. Red Flag! I was taken by wheelchair to sit,be forgotten about holding a cup of urine. Waited forever, tachycardia,HR,never left 135bpm. CT scan to r/o pulmonary embolism. First doctor is all about if the CT doesn t show anything we will figure it out. My husband arrives to me back out in the waiting room. People around us asking him is she okay ? I could not see faces just hear. Finally CT scan, lands an arrogant ER physician with 2 students in the room because the CT was clear. So,why the pressure, irregular HR,chest pain? No answer other than bronchitis...I am allergic to opioid pain medication. I am not even sure they had the correct patient. I have worked in the medical field beginning with the ER. I knew I was being charged for every moment I waited for my discharge paperwork. I removed my own IV line, discarding it in the biohazard box. I walked out of the room assisted by my husband,to let the nurse kindly know I am to old for this. She was the only kind person there. I left with heavy chest pain and a HR of 135. I am still having a heavy chest and severe chest pain. I am writing this in case I don t wake up. I am someone s daughter, someone s wife, and first and foremost a mother and Grandmother. When treating patients always think about that. I am not finished with this by any means, please believe that.

The only reason this place gets two stars is because the Puerto Rican Tech Ms.Jessica was very kind to me and were one of the few people who made me feel like I was still human. Entered Rex ER willingly due to mental health. I genuinely feel as if I were not treated with care.... I was threatened to be sedated AFTER I had previously been calm. I wasn t posing a threat to anyone so I feel as if I was just labeled crazy because of why I was there.... THANKFULLY I was able to inform her I wasn t in need of sedation because I m already relaxed and that it s extremely unnecessary. I even took the time to tell these medical PROFESSIONALS how to approach people with mental health problems because they made me feel like I was a prisoner and had committed a mass murder. They didn t listen to me, didn t ask if I was ok and showed no remorse or compassion. I made the biggest mistake going to REX !!! I was terrified for my life in a place where I m supposed to be cared for. Back to Ms. Jessica (Puerto rican Tech) was outstanding. She helped me remain calm, connected with me on a personal level and made sure I was ok.... she made me feel safe and has a great listening ear and gave good advice as well! The security guard who stayed with her was very pleasant as well and her name is also Jessica (wears a silver wedding band and is Caucasian). These two girls are magnificent and once again are the only reason this place gets 2stars. GO TO WAKEMED AND GET REAL HEALTH CARE !!!!

Worst hospital experience ever. From ER with mild heart attack to third floor that smelled like pee. No heart monitor ever mentioned. Mattress on bed completely worn out, suppose to be an air mattress with motor that buzzed all the time, puffed where there was no weight.
Had to wait for hours before test. After being told I could be discharged, had to wait 3.5 hours for someone to bring discharge papers. Wife left to bring car around to entrance while I waited for transport that never came. After having been told I had suffered a heart attack which was my reason for being there, I had to walk to the car or I may still be waiting. An Absolutely horrifying three day experience.

Great staff all around; prenatal and lactation teachers, admin, nurses and doctors. Had a successful VBAC in October. I can attribute some of my successful experience to the L&D nurses (Pat, Alisha and Ruth) and to my team at Capital Area Ob/Gyn. After 20 hours of labor and 2 nights stay I would recommend this facility to anyone.

They really need to improve their customer experience. I see no reason for someone to have to wait there for 3 hours after dropping someone off for outpatient surgery at 7 am. They should allow people to leave and call them when needed.

From the first entry into the emergency room, I received professional care and attention. UNC REX HEALTHPLEX has always been my Hospital of choice. I will recommend it to all members of my family and friends. Thanks UNC REX for being there for me today.

I was a admitted for 12 days in the 7th floor east wing. I've never been as well taken care of then my the wonderful staff. I have nothing but good things to say. I live in Wilmington and will drive 2+ house just to receive their care because it's the best of the best. I also love that in the hall I was in they had pictures of all the nurses and everything they have accomplished. Because let me just say this. If there is proof on angels they are on the 7th floor east wing. The entire staff is just amazing from doctors, nurses, custodians, etc. In most hospitals you would feel upset about being there or have that uneasy feeling. NOT at REX. You walk in the doors and just feel the positivity there. I've been so inspired by this place that once I graduate and receive my RN this is where I'm going to work. REX had a huge impact on me and my family what I want to be able to give back to provide the best care like what I received. I will be one of those people excited to go to work because REX is just that amazing.

Saved my Dad's life a few years back by providing him quick and attentive care. Dedicated nurses helped my Dad and I in the ICU and gave him all the necessary tools (dietitian, PT, etc.) to bring him home. Any other time we have been here we have had incredibly friendly and timely service. After all that they took nearly $60,000 off of our bill because we lacked insurance.

I did not enjoy my care here for any of the times I have been to the ER. I probably won t deliver here for the very reason that I don t feel welcome. They are pretty condescending. I rather did enjoy my full ultrasound appointments with Dr. Goodnight and his ultrasound technician and that s about it unfortunately.

This place has it all. Usually when you think of hospital food you think of nasty morsels no one wants. Rex excels high in the sky with their heart healthy and tasty variety.

You feel the passion of all of the staff from housekeeping to the doctors and everyone in between. Rex master's the number one curative factor in healthcare: empathy.

I don't wish for anyone to get sick but if you do, Rex is the place to go.

One of the worst experiences I have ever been through with taking my wife to the emergency room. The wait was terribly long, Triage nurse was very rude and not helpful and they did nothing to try to help or accomadate my wife. We waited an hour and the left and drove to WakeMed, where they were able to get us in right away and were extremely nice. I would highly advise anyone to go to the WakeMed Hospitals first, One of the worst experiences of our lives

I'm disappointed I even have to give this hospital...

I'm disappointed I even have to give this hospital one star just so this review will be seen. I am a 21 year female that lives alone that has struggled with kidney problems for about 5 years now which has allowed me to be seen at about every hospital. I get serve pain in my abdomen when my right kidney gets inflamed and it causes my whole body to go into shock. after being okay for about 8 months the pain decides to come back Sunday am. after fighting going to the hospital for about 2 hours trying to self medicate myself with antibiotics and Tylenol, I finally got into enough pain to where I had no choice but to drive myself to the hospital. when I get there I'm rushed into the ER from my car, I can barely speak I'm in so much pain, I then motion my purse to get my id and within minutes I'm in the room. that's where all hell breaks loose. the 2 nurses (one training) comes in, I tell them what's wrong and instead of them trying to fix it they ask me why I was up at 5am in the first place. um hello obviously I was in pain and it woke me up. the doctor then comes in, couldn't even tell you what he looked like because I was crouched in a circle holding myself trying to releve the pressure and pain, the nurses then come back in say they will start an iv as the doctor ordered but couldn't give me any sedatives unless someone came to be with me. so I gave the nurse my mother's number. the other nurse at the same time was trying to put an IV in my arm, after 6 failed attempts she finally got it halfway in there so I guess she said that's good enough and tapes it up. (remember I've been hospitals my whole life, the IV is usually the easiest part, even if they forget to put the saline and burn my vein in the process) after loading it with medicine with only half of it going in the IV and the other half going all on my arm (oh well it's not like they are paying for it)I finally say please just put the catheter in so I can relieve this pressure and pee, I'm hurting from the pressure so if we relieve that it should be an easy job right? the nurse in training was selected to insert it, which caused the most pain of my life (remind you I've been having this issue so a catheter is my saving grace) but she couldn't even do that. now pee is all on myself while the bag is emptied. I scream to stop it and get me another nurse or my doctor because it wasn't in right and it's making the pain worse and instead another nurse came in trying to hold me down so the nurse who knew nothing could try to fix it. it caused so much pain I grab a nurse who was overseeing the nurse messing up trying to hold on for support and she pushed my hand away and said don't touch me. remind you, I'm by myself 21 with half an IV and a half in catheter trying to stay calm and just needing a hand to hold while her fellow employees cause even more pain. I finally wrestled myself out the bed, fighting off a nurse who gave me 2 big evident bruises from holding me down, but ironically enough having another nurse say don't touch her. doesn't make since. after fighting my way out I call my mom crying, and she's in complete shock because she had no idea I was even in the hospital even though the nurse said she was going to call her before she gave me any medicine. I'm just in disgust and horror with this hospital. it's scary to know my insurance will only cover this hospital, because they are nothing more than money hungry women who are there for a paycheck and not for the want to help the well being of their patients. luckily my family doctor returned my call within minutes of me leaving and I woke up today feeling better than ever. just writing this to inform other people if you want to be taken care of with trust they have your best interest at heart, DON'T COME TO REX. the overweight blonde woman with a short haircut should be nothing more but a janitor at the facility and even then I would be worried about the floor being half-ass mopped. Please do not send me a bill for my bruises and my holes in my arms I have experienced enough pain and trauma.

Very caring and expert staff. Please open a branch in India also mostly good private hospitals here are "Earning Hubs" and even average middle class can not afford. Government hospitals are disgusting with no or very poor care and facilities. So please 'Make in India' a non-profit good hospital and save many lives.

I've had two babies at Rex, utilized the ER on a couple of occasions, and I'm currently spending near weekly time in the Cancer Center as a patient. Between the kind staff, the attention to detail, and the knowledgable doctors, I feel like Rex has become my medical family! I trust the advice I'm given, and I know that the technology used is top of the line. I can't wait to see how Rex will continue to serve our community for decades to come. It's my first choice for healthcare in Raleigh.

Avoid this ER -- I have now had two incidents of misdiagnosis by the Rex ER doctors. In the latest, my son was totally misdiagnosed and not treated for heat exhaustion, which could have lead to death. The ER doctor was arrogant and demeaning.

My husband had back surgery here. We arrived at 5:15 a.m. From the time we arrived, everyone was so nice and friendly. There are little touches that make you feel special. For instance, they have lockers in the surgery waiting rooms; they call you throughout the surgery and provide updates; and FREE PARKING! It was a great experience for both me and my husband.

I was in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC in late August ...

I was in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC in late August 2017 for a replacement for my pacemaker and adjustments to the way it was wired to my heart. Several weeks later I returned to my cardiologist office for the removal of the staples that held the incision to removed the staples.

I had a previous operation at Rex several years before and remembered that when the staples were removed from that operation the nurse overlooked three of them and I 'found' them later when washing my head after the removal when I was showering. I returned to the doctors office and the same nurse removed the newly 'found' staples.

I thought about it afterwards and realized that in their standard procedures in the OR they do not count the number of staples they put in you, and consequently, the do not know how many to remove from you!

Well, that's what happened to me again! That's two strikes. I asked the nurse who removed the staples from my chest at the cardiologist office, this time, how many staples she was suppose go remove. and she didn't know!

A few days ago I found another staple still in my chest and thought, 'Oh no! I can't believe it!' So I already had an appointment with my cardiologist today and pointed this out to him and he quickly sent in a nurse who looked carefully, and removed the last staple, I hope.

I would strongly advise Rex Hospital to add to their basic OR PROCEDURES TO COUNT THE NUMBER OF STAPLES THEN THE OPERATING TEAM PUTS THEM IN, SO THE NURSE WHOSE JOB IT IS TO REMOVE THEM KNOWS HOW MANY THERE ARE SO HE OR SHE GET ALL OF THEM OUT

I Hope that this makes sense is helpful to Rex,, other surgeons and other patients in the future.

The only thing good about this visit was how fast I was seen due to a very high fever and I was septic. The ER nurse that blew 2 veins and left the most horrible bruises I have ever seen on my hand and arm .( short white blonde) The ER Doctor was completely clueless and told me my kidney was completely blocked which was not true. I had surgery at this same hospital 2 days prior and it was like they had no record of it i was in server pain and they kept asking me the same questions. After being admitted I was given too much pain medicine and was severely hallucinating and terrors they tole me it couldn't be changed until a doctor approved it this took 2 days and I went a night without and was in severe pain and fever back high . Had several diff doctors tell me several different things as they tole me they would contact the doctor that did the procedure they never did my white blood count was at 20-18 and the had a PA saying it was up to me if I wanted to stay and wasn't sure about anything. I had a cleaning person come in and mob my room floor while i was in there and I had to wait until it dried to use the bathroom was was very hazardous being had a kidney infection and was using the bathroom very often. This was the worst experience I have ever had i will not get treated here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I was admitted very quickly, they did thorough testing, all the staff I met was super helpful. The RN Donna who took care of me was super funny and made light of bad situation and has been incredibly helpful, answered all my questions with ease, been incredibly hospitable, and has made my stay winderful! The doctors in the ER also were very friendly, kind, and answered any questions to my concerns and such.
If anyone in my family got incredibly ill I would immediately recommend them here :)

Took my Mom to the Cath lab to have procedure to remove blockage. Went 3 separate times, 1 to see where blockages were, 2 more times to remove blockage from left and right leg respectively. While we're very satisfied with the results, the wait time is horrible. Appt 11am, procdure done 4:15 pm. On our last visit, the recovery room smelled awful, like a urine. It smelled clean on the previous two visits.
