My wife's friends told us that Rex is the best pla...

My wife's friends told us that Rex is the best place in Raleigh to have a baby, and our experience here bears that out. She came here in January for a scheduled C section, and though it started late, the actual surgery went perfectly. The surgical staff seemed really competent, and our baby was delivered with no problems at all.

Our post-delivery stay went great also. Almost every nurse we dealt with was friendly and attentive, despite everyone being busy due to a heavy snowfall that hit while we were there. Even though the place was packed full, they somehow found me a cot to sleep on in lieu of the pull out chair. The only quibble I have is that they were sometimes a little slow with my wife's pain meds, but as I said, they were busy.

I'd heard a lot about the food here also. I didn t get a chance to try the Corner Cafe restaurant, but the cafeteria food ranged from decent to very good. I got a burger there that actually tasted as good as anything from Char-Grill.

After we got home, my wife's recovery went amazingly well, and within weeks she could hardly tell she'd had major surgery. We don't plan to have more kids, but if we change our minds, we're definitely having our next baby at Rex.

I have been a patient in 5 different hospitals in my lifetime. UNC Rex was absolutely the best facility. A few surgeries and weeks in the hospital were made much better by the great nursing care and from all the other employees. The food was good and all areas of the hospital were clean. I had not a single complaint after having been a patient there for weeks. My wife and family were also accommodated and treated with much care and respect.
Now for an update on my review .... And here it is a year later almost to the day and needing surgery again. Although I am fortunate to be able to go to any hospital I would like it's without question that I choose UNC Rex for my surgical needs. My surgeon is affiliated with all the major medical centers in the area and I could choose whichever I like, but ...... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

Do not go to this emergency department if you can ...

Do not go to this emergency department if you can help it! Travel the extra miles to go elsewhere . I wish I would have gone to the wakemed emergency department in brier creek. Two weeks ago, I was suffering from a kidney stone and in excruciating pain when I arrived. The receptionist at the front, who's name I don't remember but I can describe her as a middle aged black woman with a bad wig, didn't even bother to look up from her computer to sign me in. Finally, the security guard, who happened to be standing there gave me a sign in sheet. I tried to explain to her that my doctor has sent me over and was faxing over my info and she dismissed me and told me to have a seat. The emergency department was so busy that I kept getting pushed back. I understand this and did not expect priority over ambulance arrivals, but I did wait 5.5 hours before being called back. Around hour 3.5, after throwing up in the restroom because I was in so much pain, I finally decided to go back to the reception desk and beg for help or some kind of pain medicine. When I got up there, (the same Rude receptionist) looked at me in disgust and backed away from me as if I was some contagious zombie trying to attack her. I told her I threw up in the bathroom and she told me to go back to the triage and knock on the door for help. While I was back there waiting overheard a conversation between a nurse who worked there and another nurse who was having some kind of allergic reaction, in assuming they were friends. The nurse who was working basically said she would get her friend bumbed up on the waiting list because she was a fellow nurse. Not cool. Also, the receptionist never bothered to call a janitor to clean the bathroom , even after I told her I threw up in there. My experience once I got back to see the nurses and doctors was fairly good. They are the only reason I rated 2 stars vs 1

Took my wife here recently because she couldn't hold down no foods nor liquids, had no temperature and been starving for 2 days. After waiting for an hour she finally got seen. A so-call doctor told us that they had more important patients then us and told us to leave. Went to wake med and found out she was 3 weeks pregnant and having severe morning sickens. Wakemed took really good care of her. She 4 weeks pregnant now. She is hold down her foods and liquids. My wife and our unborn child is doing alot better.

Elliot Poole PA at urgent care in Holly Springs was condescending and dismissive. Not sure of his expertise since he didn t offer any exam...instead flippantly sent us to Rex ED. Nurse Greg in ED offered same level of empathy . This is a poor example of patient-centered care. Neither clinical staff introduced themselves, provided any semblance of compassion or concern. Is the Expertise AND Empathy simply a marketing campaign? Both staff persons would benefit greatly from Carolina Care scripting remediation. Words matter!

I had a joint replacement surgery recently & was o...

I had a joint replacement surgery recently & was on the 6th floor. Most of the nurses were just 'ok' during my stay but had one that was HORRIBLE! She snapped @ me when I told her I was not to get out the left side of the bed which were the orders of the PT & Dr plus it was written on the white board in my room. I had to explain to her why I was not to get out the left side; I'm thinking why should I have to explain this to her; does she not suppose to read the chart or the board in the room? She proceeds to yank my operated leg across the bed to get me out in which I had to tell her that hurt. Then she told me she was going to drop my leg to the floor. I told her she need to work with me & understand I'm in pain & DO NOT to drop my leg. I really wanted to tell her something else. Then she tries to leave w/o putting my wedge back between my legs. She looks @ me as why would I want that. She puts it on; I have to tell her hold on b4 leaving; I need it tied back the way it was. She was horrendous! No1 should have this kind of a treatment in any environment. I do plan to find out if there is a complaint dept bc this needs to be addressed in addition to some other issues I had during my stay. I chose Rex bc I had surgery here couple times over the yrs & the service was fine; can't believe the change for the worse.

My husband had surgery and the staff is great but seriously bring a cooler. Unless you want to eat junk or can actually eat when the cafeteria is open even. I had 1 hr total all day i could actually go eat and of course its closed. I arrived here 5 hrs ago and have another 5 at least to go. Just bring a cooler of drinks and food for your all day experience.

My wife and I had our baby at the Rex Birth Center in March. What a wonderful experience, not just because of our precious new addition, but because of the compassionate care we received by all of the Rex co-workers. The CNA's, RN's, and MD's all treated us like family. Thanks for all of your wonderful service and care!

This hospital is phenomenal, and the staff are so generous and actually CARE about your well-being. Donna and Leah (RNs) have been absolutely fantastic, so fantastic I could cry because I've never gotten this kind of treatment in my many hospital stays. I'm still here and on the verge of tears, because it's impossible for me to show the proper amount of appreciation I have for this staff. Dora (NA) is also very sweet, all of the phlebotomists are VERY well-trained, and maybe I'm just from a poorly educated state, but I'm truly amazed with everyone I have come in contact with here. I will never go anywhere else as long as I'm in the area.

I went to the emergency room when I was 11 weeks p...

I went to the emergency room when I was 11 weeks pregnant because I believed I had had a miscarriage. Heartbroken and terrified that my baby may no longer be there the team of doctors I worked with got me seen quickly allowing me to get the results that my baby was perfectly healthy and kicking around! Not only did the staff treat me stupendously while in the emergency but the head doctor that was taking care of me called me a few days after my visit just to check on how I was doing both physically and emotionally. It meant the world to me to have a head emergency room doctor personally give me a wellness check call rather than having an assistant do it or not doing it at all.

Time passed and I was ready to have my baby! I had to be induced caused to health issues but all my nurses and doctors made things as comfortable as possible. I can truly say I loved every minute of labor and every minute after. The staff was absolutely wonderful and nurturing to me and my whole family. Also side not the food is absolutely amazing!

I look forward to delivering another baby at REX and any other future interactions!

My 5 year old son took a spill and got a pretty nasty bump right above his left eye. It was swollen real bad and so out of an abundance of caution i took him here. After getting triaged we had to wait a little bit but all the staff there from the receptionist and security to the nurses and doctors were all very sweet to the little guy. When we saw the doctor my son opened up to him and started telling a long story. The doctor, who i could tell was very busy (of course) just stood there smiling ear to ear listening to his story. It was very sweet. As it turned out he was fine. Just a big shiner that will look terrible for a couole if days. But the bedside manor they had for my son, from the top down was awesome.

If I could give this hospital a zero stars I would...

If I could give this hospital a zero stars I would. My father fainted at home and was taken to Rex Hospital for evaluation. While at Rex, the medical staff allowed my elderly father to fall on his head in their hospital under their care. His age made him an obvious fall risk, but they did not watch him close enough. We were not allowed to be with him in the ER and hospital because of visitor restrictions. They don't allow anyone in the hospital (that was the rule at the time of the fall May 15, 2020). This fall has lowered his quality of life significantly and has disabled him. I contacted the hospital's quality services division to complain. They referred me to the hospital insurance company which denied any reimbursement for the hospital bill or compensation even though the hospital admitted in a letter that the fall did occur in their care. If you have a family member going to Rex Hospital and they're not allowing family members to accompany them because of COVID restrictions on visitors, then beware.
A hospital who won't even pay for a patient's hospital stay which was largely caused by the hospital is a sorry one indeed. He was living a great life before we took him to Rex Hospital.

No one wants to spend more than a month in the hospital, but if you have to, UNC Rex is the place to be! I'm not gonna lie, the food is HORRIBLE, but the care I received from the staff & especially the nurses on the 7th floor & my surgeon Dr Adusumilli, was AMAZING! I thank God for ALL of you!

I had a very good experience at Rex. I had a sudden 2 day stay for an unscheduled operation. I wanted to share that I received excellent care, professional, attentive, timely, and courteous, in a modern, clean and quiet facility. I am totally satisfied with the skills of all the staff. If I had to select a hospital again, in Raleigh, I would not hesitate to select and recommend Rex.

I'm actually at the hospital and j feel like cattle. Were all put together in groups for what we need. Ct scan or blood work etc. No beds. No individual attention. In fact they've barely embraced the fact that I'm here. It took me 11 hours to get a bed. I'd never go back here, like, ever

We were admitted into REX after complications from an outpatient procedure. We were there for four days and the nurses and doctors provided terrible service. Any time we called to ask for anything, whether it be an IV hookup, assistance with moving around the room or just basic questions it would take over an hour to get any responses. At times, the nurses would even show signs of having an attitude if they were asked to provide any type of assistance. We would have to constantly ask questions in order to get any information from the nurses. Very slack and hard to trust in the care that was being provided. I truly hope they can improve this in the future for the sake of those who are admitted and need future assistance.

They're not the best at taking care of trans patients. Their system doesn't account for gender or sex variance, and the staff aren't trained for it. Although some are clearly culturally aware of this discrepancy and try to compensate. I'm currently in a bed and they have taken my blood three times, urine twice an EKG. Somehow my labs were lost twice. Twice I have heard "I'm going to take it there myself". I have been here for almost 4 hours now. I don't know what's going on. Correction, they just asked for my urine again.

My dad was taken to the Rex ER from an ambulance, he crashed his car into a hydrant. When arriving to the hospital, my sister found my dad leaning over the side of his bed almost ready to fall out. He hadn't been seen yet by anyone. He had an oozing head wound and was bruised up. He wasn't seen by the physician for another hour and subsequent CT scan and x-ray took another hour. They hadn't bothered cleaning his head wound or monitoring his vitals during the visit. He was discharged with a head wound they told us to clean and bandage. The ER was virtually empty. My dad has good insurance I expected better.

I had a wonderful experience at the ER! Fear of a possible bloot clot had my GP send me to the ER, and the doctor (Dr. Fleming) and nurses were outstanding. Kind, understanding, and just really nice people. My ultrasound tech was too funny - great guy. I know every visit to a hospital is different for every person, but I have to say these people were great. Thank you!

The nurse (Meghan) does not follow protocol of putting the label-ID on drawn blood vials. Somebody threw away the blood once drawn. Same thing happened of urine sample. The bed was unprepared. Very unprofessional behavior. More than six hours of wait in emergency room! I hope this review will help others. If you have other option available, steer clear of here.

if I could rate this place it would be in the negatives. I am out of state and had to take my daughter to the emergency room now before doing so I called in advance to make sure that the insurance was indeed accepted there. I was told that it was indeed covered and I quote not to worry everything would be taken care of now come to find out a year later getting bills from this Hospital saying that they are not in network with my insurance and we're not going to call them to get the bill paid and that I would have to do all that on my own. Horrible horrible horrible place I can not exaggerate extremely disappointing customer service. I do not recommend for anyone

my Daughter recently went in to have an outpatient procedure to have a Chalazion on her eye lid drained. Really simply quick (10 min) procedure. I was told when she came out before they woke her up that her IV would be removed. When I saw her in recovery it was NOT. Also, She had fell a few days prior to having this procedure, resulting in busting her chin open. We had it glued back together and I made them very aware of it so they could take precautions to not bust it back open. When I saw her in recovery her chin was bleeding everywhere and no one had even noticed. Then when asked what happened to her chin. The nurses tried to cover themselves by saying oh we were told that happened at home and she hasn't moved out of the bed, or fell. I understood that and yes it did happen at home. but when we got there it was glued shut. Now it is busted open and bleeding everywhere and yall have yet to notice. Thanks for the Traumatic experience for my 3 year old Rex. I really appreciate it.

I delivered my child via c-section at REX and I could not have had a better experience. Every doctor, nurse, and staff member went above and beyond to ensure myself, my family, and visitors felt comfortable, safe, and supported in every way. The nurses were AMAZING! I can't say enough great things about my experience!

Broke a femur at 7 AM and was brought in via EMS on a Saturday. Within 1 1/2 hours the pre-op was performed, the X-rays taken, the IV and pain meds flowing, the anesthesiologist had come in to speak to me, the surgeon on call arrived (he called me on my phone while in transit to already get preliminary info), and I was wheeled into the operating room. By 2 PM I was conscious in my own private room with wifi. Meals are a la carte via menu any time you like them, although the wait is fairly long so you need to order early. Doctor Allan was the supervising physician and she took her time to explain the plan and what to expect. The nursing staff was fabulous and so were the aids. On the second day physiotherapy came to teach me the necessary motions on my crutches and I was discharged that afternoon. Dr. Allan called me the next day, personally, to ask how everything was going. I can't say enough good things about this hospital. Definitely the best I've ever seen.

I am writing this review not to say how great Rex ...

I am writing this review not to say how great Rex Emergency or Rex Hospital in general is. just to say how we found ER nurse Wenda( Thats what I could read from her badge) to be the perfect example of a care giver in a very unfortunate incident of our life. My wife had miscarriage and Wenda made her cosole so wonderfully that it touched both our hearts. I previously experience ER at WakeMed when my wife had an accident. Found the nurses pretty stereotypical trying to avoid work as important as dressing the cut. But in Rex, Wenda was so gentle in dealing with us. To my surprise he offered coffee to me and related an experience with the one my wife is going through one. May be Rex is not the best hospital but Rex do have few gems in its workforce. I salute these people who will go extra length to treat people with the best they've got. They are the best of this world.

My wife and I had our first child here. I was excited as this was the place I was born. The hospital itself is very dated for as much money as they bring in and charge. The staff was not bad, you had some good apples and bad apples with nurses. My biggest concern now is, that when we left, they stuck me up for $1100 more than what I was suppose to pay and would not let me leave until I paid that amount. So I paid it with a promise of a refund when everything clears. Makes no sense right... Either way, its been several months and numerous calls later, I still have no refund. On top of the money my insurance company paid them they now are sitting on my money as well. I have called over and over, and have been given the run around. This was suppose to be a good experience, however it has become a nightmare. Our second child will not be born here due to this. I am so disappointed.

I would have given the hospital 5 stars, but the nurse who helped deliver my baby, as well as the on call Dr. were pretty rude. They seemed more concerned about my previous smoking habits than the current situation. After that everything was great. All of the nurses in after delivery unit are so nice. One stands out in mind, Wendy. If you ever see this, thanks so much for making my stay at the hospital a pleasant one! Great staff, and the hospital food is actually a high light, very good food! Minus the couple bad apples along the way, thanks Rex for making stay a pretty good one.

Tonight I came to visit my brother at the ER for chest pain. When I went to see how long he's been waiting for results it was 3 hours. Waiting 3 hours for results for someone who's been having chest pain is ridiculous. The customer service there was poor. I went to check to see how much longer was it going to take for the results to come in the front desk weren't concerned at all. I was just advised to knock on the triage nurse door to let them know he is not feeling well & to see how long everything will be. The nurse looked at me , and disregarded me. At this point I was furious! I told my brother to go up to the nurse & tell them how you feel. He went up there more then once and was ignored by the nurses. My brother left that night with no results and the staff just being rude to him and telling him bye as they cared less! How can people be so careless about people who only needs medical attention !

Horrible. My trip consisted of a 5 hour wait in the waiting room followed by a 3 hour wait in the treatment room. A terrible excuse for a hospital. So my mom went to the Rex because she was not feeling well... And she doesn't speak good english ... And the nurse gave her a pill and told her to take it... My mom repeatedly asked for water to take the pill.. And the nurse tell her she don't need water... My mom asked why.. And the nurse took the pill out of her hand and threw it in the trash and told her she didn't need it and that she was fine... According to the other nurse that was very nice.. She said they been having problems with the same nurse.. What kind of professionalism is that... This hospital has given only bad experiences to my mother and I ... My mother is 80 years old... Treating her like that is no excuse... We had to change to Duke Medicine ... What happened to the doctors in the old days... They actually used to care and take care of the patient ... Now they just write you a prescription and lead you out the door... Very disappointing. .

had my routine six month check up earlier this morning around 9AM. The nurse completed the random check up and stated everything was fine and she wanted to schedule another appointment in six months. I asked her am I not going to see the doctor and she said no. She said if I wanted to see the doctor then she could get him. Considering my health condition, I was extremely disappointed that the assistant came in and not the doctor. The assistant was very nice but this is unprofessional since I was unable to see doctor. Why is the assistant consulting on my health? The assistant was not a nurse nor a doctor. Disappointed.

As a customer, I expect to be treated like a real patient and I have heart problems so I expect the doctor to see me not the assistant. As a heart patient, the doctor should want to see me since previous heart complications could have ended my life.

Advise to everyone looking to visit a hospital or urgent care, my recommendation is make sure you are consulted by a doctor not an assistant considering you are paying full price from your pocket and health.

In addition, I made several calls in the morning but no call was returned by Rex Hospital.

We have 2 Rex babies, and the Women's Center has been a wonderful experience. I have also had outpatient care there and also have used the ER. I came in my car and not an ambulance. I was taken to triage almost immediately and began pain meds within a few minutes. I am a pastor and have visited many people in many situations and hospitals in the Triangle and Downeast NC. No hospital is perfect, and bad experiences can happen in any of them, but the most consistently good one I have observed is Rex.

Attempted to get my wife into ER. Triage was quick. Then we waited 5+ hours and they never called us. They were calling people who came in an hour after us. People obviously not in pain were called back. Even a guy with a gash in his head waited 5 hours. I do not recommend their ER under any circumstances. The rest of the hospital may be okay, but I've been to better ER Dept's in the poorest states in America. Epic failure on their part.

I felt compelled to leave a review after visiting other hospitals in the area. I've had the misfortune of having a lot of health issues in my early 30's starting with the birth of my daughter a little over a year ago. I'm confident to say if I wasn't at this hospital, we probably wouldn't have survived. Their level of care is unparalleled, and they have every type of specialist or testing you would ever need done. After my experience I had to go back to the ER (different issues) and they got to me rather quickly. I think those who have negative reviews have NOT been to other ERs. The same experience I had at another hospital I sat for 10 hours for the same condition before I was seen. They have to realize some patients are there for more life threatening issues. I would never go anywhere else, and I'm so grateful we have this sort of hospital in the area.

I walked in the ER with severe acute back pain without history of injury. They took 1.5 hour to see me. In 10 min a brief physical exam was done, and the nurse or Dr concluded I had back spasms. I was prescribed pain meds. A few days later I was diagnosed with 2 herniated disks by another Dr. I end up with a bill from the ER of 800, for a physical exam and prescriptions, and not proper medical work up or diagnosis. Not going back there that s for sure.

Called to set up an appointment for a first time p...

Called to set up an appointment for a first time patient. Online they are listed as performing obstetrics and gynecology, and through a search from my insurance provider they are listed to also perform pregnancy ultrasounds. The women who answered the phone asked how she could help me to which I replied I would like to set up my first prenatal appointment. Without hesitation in the most rude and condescending tone she responded "...and you call a hematology department". I immediately called her out on her rude behavior to which she did not apologize for. I had called the primary number and chose options on the automated system for "schedule an appointment" and "first time patient" but was never directed to a specific department. Regardless if I did connect to the wrong department a receptionist should not handle it in this way, she should say let me direct you to the correct department not insinuate that I am an idiot for calling. Of course hormones are raging and I am emotional and pregnant but I myself answer phones at a vet office and I would never dream of using that tone or saying anything like that to a client. I got off the phone crying and scared to call anywhere else and get a response like that.
