Missed pick up? Don't bother calling to complain, you're wasting your time. The call center will say they're putting in an "expedited" request and will lie to your face about the problem being resolved that day or the next morning. Doesn't happen. They missed a pickup on Tuesday, I've called every single day since (today is Saturday) to complain because our trashcan is completely full, we can't put anything else in it. Each time I called I was told that it would be taken care of that day or the next morning. Clearly if I'm writing this, that's not happened. Lying to your PAYING customers is NEVER a good customer "service" move.

How do I know they've been lying to me? I actually had someone on the phone at the call center this afternoon who had the honesty to tell me that the call center has NO control over the local operations center. They put in a ticket but ultimately if the local operations center doesn't feel like fixing the problem, they don't have to and the call center has no way to make them. So while the customer representative will say the pickup will be made the next day, they have absolutely no means of making sure it will be. If I'd been told that from the beginning I'd still be annoyed at the lack of service, but much less irate then I am now after being lied to for four straight days.

They do not collect the garbage every week as they should do twice a week, when you call them, they just tell you we have the request to pick up the garbage, and they never pick it up and we have to call them like 3 times a day to make them a reminder and in the end they do not give good service. I will cancel the service with them. Very poor service.

This low rating is for the office service only. I work in hoa management; I DREAD having to deal with AAA because they always say "we don't have that community in our records - you need to set up a new account" when they have covered the community since 1990! I have been in this job for 12 years - in the last five years, the abilities of the customer service people have steadily declined to the point that it is an exercise in futility to talk to them at all. And if you ever need trash cans removed from townhouse or condo areas -- forget calling AAA. Just get a handyman to take the extras to the dump and save yourself a big headache.

AAA Trash does a good job of taking away pretty much what ever you put out there as long as you follow the rules. Those guys are out there working very hard in trying conditions all day every day.

I don't want to have to think about my garbage. I want to take it to the curb in the morning and bring the empty can back up in the evening. This doesn't seem possible with AAA / Republic. Probably 5 times now I have had to call because they have skipped my house for yard waste pick up. I live on a cul-de-sac with 3 other houses - all of us use the same trash service, and they regularly skip my house despite collecting waste for everyone else. When I call customer service, they don't seem interested in owning the problem (after asking a litany of questions, the customer rep seemed to think it was likely because I hadn't placed a big "X" on my clear bags of weeds... tho none of my neighbors put "X"'s on their bags and they get picked up). She tells me that they will come out the following day to pick them up. No show. Again. They don't value your time and they don't try to fix their problems. I just switched to American. They are cheaper and it's hard to imagine that they could be worse.

There should be an option for zero star. This is the worst trash service I have ever received since we moved to a new house. I have wasted hours on phone calls many times over the last three weeks. Containers were delayed by a week and no pickups were done for two consecutive weeks despite of all those empty promises on the call. Had to cancel the service, but now still need to dispute the bills.

Signed up for service in May, nothing but problems from day 1. Wouldn't pick up yard waste, multiple calls to customer service, still took forever to get resolved. Multiple missed pickups, more calls to customer service. Polite, but not helpful. Finally gave up and switched, no problems with new provider. Left Republic containers on the curb for pickup as directed after I cancelled service, took 3 days before they were collected. Now the good part; got an invoice for $170 for carts not returned. Called customer service; they insisted the carts were never left for pickup and the proof is the driver took a picture. Asked for a supervisor to call me; still waiting. Worst service I have ever received. New service provider doing great; no problems. I paid the $170 b/c it's not worth the risk of being referred to a collection agency. Giving a 1 star rating only because 0 stars not an option.

It's trash collection. Hard work in terrible weather all the time, stinky trash, dogs barking and maybe biting, and all at near minimum wage. I give the guys on the truck 5+ stars. I give the company none. But overall they do a good job and mostly better than other trash companies.

1.5 stars is too high. As bad as their competitors are, this place takes poor service to a new level. The first month of paid service, they came one time, and it wasn't even for solid waste. When you call, they'll put you on hold for 10 minutes or longer to stall you. No matter how many times you ask them to return for missed pick-ups, they won't. The government should investigate how all waste removal companies in the DMV suck. Monopoly of ineptitude.

The rating for this company is spot on, they are horrible. Do yourself or your company a favor and go with a different company. My neighborhoods normal recycle pickup is on Tuesdays and for some reason our bin was missed, even though it had been out at the curb since the night before. So I called Republic Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and today as our bin still sat by the curb waiting to be picked-up. Of course, I was told each time I called, by the very nice customer service group in NC (only reason they got 1 star), that it would be picked up by 6:00pm that day. I even initiated a call from our HOA to our local representative and was told it would be picked up as well. Thursday, I was a little frustrated so I called to speak to a supervisor and asked for the local phone number. I was told they can not give out the local number and they would send a message and have one call me back. I sit here today, Friday evening, and I got nothing, no callback, no pickup! This has to be the worst company I have ever experienced. The local management team should seriously look into a different company to work for...one they can take pride in. It is clear, based on the other reviews and my own experience, they do not take pride in this one.

Likely to miss your pickup days on a regular basis. Rarely publish or update their holiday schedule so good luck figuring that out, too. Avoid if possible.

Update: Contacted Republic, they are still missing recycling pickup days almost every week. They also fail to make the promised pickups when they miss a day and we call to complain.

Have made many phone calls and sent several e-mails asking to have our yard waste picked up. Our service stopped a week before the covid-19 altered schedule. Have been told we will hear from a supervisor, no one has called. We simply want the service we are paying for as customers for the past 27 years.

Republic Services has missed Recycle pickup for 2-3 consecutive weeks and my tenants have been complaining about it.

I've called Republic Services many times and I get the same response as most people in Google reviews. "Let me call right now and see if they can pick it up today, otherwise I will arrange a pickup for tomorrow". "We will process a refund for you".

I must have called 3-4 times and all I've been getting has been a bunch of lies.

Since I wrote the review below, it seems that the separation of trash and recycles has been resolved. Republic service is back to sending two separate trucks for pick-ups: one for regular trash and one for recycles. I am very happy now with the service.

My twice weekly service is reliable but my complaint is that I have noticed only one truck picks up the trash and the recycles at the same time now and in the same truck. They used to send 2 separate trucks. The recycling truck usually came by first then the trash truck later. I called customer service to complain that the workers were combining both and was told that some trucks have 2 separate compartments. Fair enough, but since then I have observed that they pick up the recycle can, dump it, then pick up the regular trash can right next to it and dump it in the exact same truck compartment!! They then do the same thing working their way down the street. So why am I bothering to recycle?? Does Fairfax County no longer recycle or is this just laziness on the part of Republic Services? Maybe all of their recycle trucks are broken?

My trash hasn't been picked up in atleast 2 weeks. I'm beyond furious. I was supposed to receive a call Friday from dispatcher no one called me back. I was told there was no delay and I there was no reason for them to not pick up. If there is not a valid explanation I will be terminating service on Monday.

Since we've opened this account, they have NOT ONCE picked our trash up. They've managed to get the recycling a few times, but in a month and a half, NOT ONE PICKUP. It's absolutely absurd.Ive called to customer service pretty much weekly, with promises of resolve, still, to this day and hour, we have completely OVER FULL trash, outside, wondering when and if they'll actually pick it up. The service was cut from 2 times a week to once a week ,with a eight dollar decrease in the bill.The service has been inconsistent numerous times they have failed to pick up my yard wast even-though it has been on the curb as required. Although they have suspended yard waste pickup some of my neighbors yard waste in bags has been picked up however mine which was in a container and baged was not. Republic needs to do a better job of informing customers of changes in a timely manner and working to improve services.

They have been absolutely awful lately. Signed up with them 2 years ago at our new house in Springfield, and it was going well for a while. Was paying roughly 88, and now its up to 123 a quarter. I don't understand how you raise rates while lower service. In the last month, they missed 5 pickups, including last weeks garbage which was right as the heat wave started. I can smell my trash can from the street. I plan to send them a bill for powerwashing the can, as it still smells like a zombies a-hole.

How does this business get any reviews above a 1? It has to be someone in the company writing them. The only reason that they have any business is because their only competition is American. Business model = start pricing at one rate, and increase by 20% within a year and then charge you >$100 to cancel. To cancel, you'll have to hold on the line for 1/2 hour to get a customer service representative and it will take at least 3 iterations to get the cancellation, after which they'll charge you for another quarter of service. Generally, I would like to give the unsung heros like refuse workers some slack, but the management behind this company is total garbage.

Service has been terrible , more than once I've called about missed service , it seems someone is dropping the ball in your company or they are not handling the callins about service very well? why? First it was Recyclables trash being missed on Tuesday pick up day ( old Schedule) , now with the (New schedule change) friday's pickup of regular trash, is being missed, and with a rise in cost of almost ($10.00) service would improve, it has not and at times it seems worse than before. I have thought of changing service , but I try to be loyal to those who do who are doing a good job, but I have been thinking of changing companies ? So I like to hear from you and know that the pick up service will improve.Looking forward to hearing from any one in charge of reading and reporting this to the men or women in charge, hopefully someone reads this.

If i could give a ZERO, I would!!!! I have recently canceled my services with Republic as their service has dropped drastically. Every quarter for last 2 years I ve had to call in missed pick up but since Dec/Jan 2020 it s been faithfully EVERY week, twice a week; once for reach and again for recycling. I ve been more than understanding as routes change, I ve been OVER THE TOP understanding due to COVID and have even offered to speak with the operations supervisor to see if I m on outskirts of route and if would be best to go with another company if inconvenience to this company. I was constantly assured this would be fixed and my complaints would be sent to local operations department and I would get a call regarding my acct. ( WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BY THE WAY!!!). customer service apologizes for my issue and reschedules a pick up, just doing their job but underlining problem is never fixed. I ve have canceled my service effective tomorrow BUT my trash from Friday (5 days ago) has yet to be picked up after calling in 2 missed pick ups, nor have the cans been picked up that were supposed to be, nor have I gotten a call regarding my acct about credit owed! This is the worst company as I have been more than patient. Their customer service is great and Sandy from sales was great until I canceled my service and now all of a sudden, no one can help me any longer. After a client for 6 years, when the economy is crashing, maybe you would appreciate your customers a little better? I shouldn t have to call and ask for my trash to be picked up if paying for a service. Just be honest with your customers!!!!!

Do not use them!
We had to use this company for a few years due to our HOA. We canceled our account in July after selling our house. Republic services over charged us for our last bill by charging us partially for the next months service even though our account had been closed. I have contacted their customer service many times and get told the same thing by their service reps. You are right, then the verify my current address and say the check will be mailed in a few days. It s now Nov. this same Back-and-forth has gone on since August. If you are part of the HOA please ask your HO a to check out different services if you are on the board of the HOA please do your due diligence and check out local companies that will give the homeowners a better customer experience. Saving a few dollars by going with republic services only rewards the homeowners with constant struggles of missed pick up s, horrible account service, seemingly monthly bill increases and over all incompetence for the trash and recycling service they provide.

I'm definitely in the minority, but we've had this company for years (they bought out our previous smaller company quite a few years ago), we pay a neighborhood rate of $69 a quarter 2 trash pick ups a week and one single stream recycling pick up) and have NEVER had a bad experience. They have picked up chairs, cut up (but still fairly large) furniture, yard waste, whatever, with no additional charge. I did pay extra once for the pick up of a large couch, but isn't that to be expected? It's in the contract. Never missed a pick up except for the occasional blizzard and the guys have never been sloppy. I don't doubt folks have had issues with customer service, but we have never had to call them. I pay online and have never had a problem with that, either. I do pay on time, so...

Signed up a month ago. Still haven't had trash picked up once. Filed multiple "missed pickup" forms each week and called multiple times. Call center tells me the same thing they've told all the other reviewers - they're "expediting the request" to the "local operations center." It results in nothing.

They did not deliver a recycling bin when I first signed up (only a waste bin). I called to ask them to deliver one and they dropped it off the next day -- right next to my full waste bin. Did they empty the full waste bin at the same time? No. The waste bin still sits there full.

They throw your cans all over the street and in ditches. They break them then try to charge you for a replacement. They occasionally miss pickups altogether. I've had customer service lie to me on numerous occasions requiring me to submit formal complaints and escalations without any real action taken in the end. Avoid at all costs. They want you to give them your money and leave them alone. They have no clue about customer service.

If I could give a negative star rating I would. It has been nothing but problems since I started my service in April. The bins weren't delivered when they were supposed to be. They picked the bins up and when I called to have them back, they wanted to charge me. I finally got someone to schedule a delivery without charging me 150 dollars for new containers. I received my recycling bin a week late, and it has been 3 weeks without a trash bin now. This is by far the WORST company I have dealt with in my life! Their representatives are mostly rude, and have no clue as to what they are doing. They also rely on a division delivery service that closes at 5. The company has no way to see what is happening at division, so when you call them, they cannot help with any issues other than sending an email that never gets answered! Horrible horrible company.

My experiences have been similar to other reviews. Their services are hit and miss. When called they promise send a truck the next day . My yard waste has been sitting in front of the house for two weeks. This despite my husband numerous calls.

I saw the owner response to several of the dismal reviews. I used the email contact he provided. It was an invalid address so your complaint or information can t get to him. It only looks like he wants to correct the problem. Much like the people you talk to on the phone

This company has awful awful service. I tried to schedule a bulk pick-up, only to have them never pick-up as scheduled over a week. I called four times and was assured it was scheduled. I finally canceled the pick-up, and was refunded the $172 they quoted, and now they've charged me an exorbitant amount of $1200, including a $200 fuel fee. Avoid this company. I am now having to invest time trying to cancel the false payment. Their customer service pretends to care but they don't do their job and will try and overcharge you for work they don't perform.

The good news is that we did not used Republic services because their horrible customer service and way too expensive. I called them to get an estimate only, next, they left their cans in front of our house without any authorization. After so many unsuccessful phone calls letting them know to pick up their empty trash cans, they finally did. However about a month and half later, we got a recorded phone call letting us know that our unpaid bill was overdue! My husband invested so many more hours to finally reach someone in their company to let them we shouldn't get charge $30 fee for retrieving their own trash cans.

We placed our yard waste at the curb last Wednesday morning. When it wasn't picked up I called Republic and was told it would be picked up with the regular trash pickup on Friday. I wasn't picked up on Friday and when I called I was told that it would be scheduled as a missed pickup on Monday. It wasn't picked up on Monday, and when I called this morning I received no indication as to when it might be picked up. Your service, or lack thereof, is unacceptable.

We called 3 times to request for bins to be picked up and cancel service as my tenant decided to go with another trash provider. For weeks the tenant complained Republic didn't pick up the bins. Called again and again to ask for bins to be picked up, putting the bins on the curb as instructed. Then got a bill for 140 dollars for the bins and was told by customer service to prove they picked them up (give a specific date by which the driver arrived) in order to have them look into it. This is a rental, I want nothing more than to get these bins off the property and cancel double trash service. Customer service was useless and the worst in the industry. Go with someone else or hope you'll never have to call customer support office in Indianapolis for help.

We have just moved into a new community that requires that we order trashcans from AAA - we moved in July 27 and had our trash cans set up for delivery for the first week of August. It is now September and we have no trash cans. I had called 3 times during August and each time I was told that it would be corrected. Finally I asked my husband to call and they told him our account was not even set up (on their side) and that it would be corrected and our trash cans delivered immediately. Long story short, we still don't even have trash cans. This is ridiculous and a perfect example of why competition is necessary in business.

Your staff was very clear that my trash would be picked up five days later than the promised date so you certainly do not need to apologize for any lack of communication. Id be more concerned with what really happened. Every word of my review is true and correct.

I signed up for service and they told me my first pick up would be on Thursday. Literally a brand new customer and they didn't pick up the trash on Thursday despite multiple guarantees AND promises that they would. Of course they didn't pick up the trash, then told me I would have to wait until Monday. Great business model. If I could give negative stars I would. Save yourself the trouble and call another service.

This is one of the worst companies I have ever worked with. Setting up my account: When I went to set up autopay online, it didn't work and I got charged a fee for not paying on time. I called and asked them to set it up for me. It still didn't work, so they cancelled my service. After 6 months, it was finally correct. Services: They regularly miss pickups due to "fleet issues", usually once a month. Cancelling: I called to cancel my service on November 14th. They said they cancelled effective immediately. I went in and turned off autopay and removed all of my payment information. On December 3rd, I get an e-mail that money has been deducted from my account. I called and said I need them to fix this, because I cancelled over two weeks prior. Then they tell me that it was already in the process of transferring the money, and won't be processed until the 14th of December. That's when they can "pro-rate and issue my refund." There should be no pro-rating because I'm not getting services for December. So I'm paying for a service I am not getting, and they hold your money for over a month between initiation and processing. Furthermore, instead of just taking care of the issue, I have to call THEM back on the 14th of December to REMIND them to issue my refund. Do not waste your time.

Republic missed my regularly scheduled pick up monday 5/18/2020 did not pick,Miss pick Monday 5/25/2020 . I called everyday and the customer service rep told me that they would try to have someone out that day but he guaranteed me that they would be out at the latest. No one showed and no one show last 3 weeks

I have been a trash and recycling customer of AAA Republic services for 15 years. The company always picks up trash, recycling and yard waste early in the morning on my assigned days. If there is snow or a holiday they leave a message on my home phone to let me know of the schedule change. I also have contacted them to pick up large items (with an extra charge) and the price seemed fair and they arrive and haul away on time. One year another trash service offered a cheaper rate and we called Republic and they matched it for us. I am very happy with this company and find their customer service people to be helpful and friendly.

This is too long a story to write on here, but I strongly recommend that you do not do business with this company!!! The odd thing with our story is that we actually never had them as our disposal service - we just signed up to switch to this company and found out that we were being transferred in a few months - so we cancelled - there lies the problem....Told many times that all was taken care of, but now getting calls from their collection department stating that we owe money.....Tried to talk to a supervisor/manager - never have been able to. The communication between departments in this company is horrible...Can't believe in this day and age of computers that things can get so horribly messed up - just wanted to let people know about our experience with Republic Services. Today, after receiving another bill, and making another call, I was finally transferred to a supervisor and I am hopeful that this matter will be resolved.....

They agreed to give me another year of contractual rate via phone through the sales department. However, every time I got the bills, they kept increasing the fees. So I called 5-6 times last year, they all promised me the same thing that the rate would not change and will credit me the difference. It s been a year and I got fed up with calling them every bill cycle, so I asked to speak to someone who can Read and make the adjustments. The guy who was on the phone said: the business unit reviewed the case a year ago and decided not to offer the rate. I feel sorry that no one has made a call to tell you that! WHAT?! I have been promised all last year was not true and their customer service don t have a connection to their business unit???!!! Such a bad business practice!!!

I missed my pickup on Monday July 8, 2019 as I was out of town over the 4th of July weekend and was late getting back on Monday morning. I called AAA Waste Management around 10 am and asked whether a pickup could still be arranged, even though I had not been able to get my trash out to the curb by 7 am. This was particularly important as there had been no trash pickup on the previous scheduled day, Thursday, because of the July 4th holiday. They kindly agreed and said the collectors would be back to my house either on the same day or Tuesday. No one came on Monday. On Tuesday, around noon, I called again to inquire about the pickup and was told that it was on the schedule for pickup that day. Nothing happened. I called on Wednesday (July 10th) morning and this time the agent told me that it would not be picked up as I had failed to get my trash to the curb on time on Monday. You can imagine the conversation I then had with her. I request AAA Waste Management to send their agents on customer service training. It would be better if they did not have customer service agents at all, rather than the ill trained staff they now employ. In case someone from AAA Waste Management wants to follow up, my address is: 10238 Brittenford Drive, Vienna, VA 22182. The property is part of a housing development called Hunter Mill Estates, which is a group customer of AAA Waste Management.

Manage your expectations--if you expect terrible customer service, this company won't disappoint. The folks who come and collect trash/recycling have been good thus far. However, if you experience any issues or have any questions about your service and you were to call them seeking answers, then prepare to be incredibly underwhelmed by their customer service. That is if they answer the call at all! Best of luck--hope you have another choice in your area.

If you re in the Northern VA area you should use American instead of republic. They are 1/3 the price and offer the same service.

I ve call to cancel my republic account 3x, in that process the account was not canceled, and my trash was not picked up for at least 90 days.

They also would not refund me for the months they missed and they are charging me a $25 pick up fee for their trash can which I m sure they won t show up to pick up anyway.

It's raining today - was snowing earlier. We just got a robocall saying that they decided to stop doing pickups today and will resume on our next scheduled service. But recycling is only once a week and next week is Thanksgiving. So that means 2 weeks with a big pile of wet cardboard sitting in front of the house. We are moving so have lots to recycle. The best news is that after we move, we have no more Republic Services to disappoint us.

Fourth time in one month that they fail to pickup in our cluster of homes. Their customer service then promised special pickup the next day but that was a lie. Poor service is their corporate credo.

Don't be tempted by those low prices they promise when they knock on your door. They don't answer their phones or respond to customers in any way. Plus, they will add junk fees to your bill so you won't save a dime in the long run. If you are lucky enough to reach a live person on their "customer service" line, they won't know anything. And they'll promise to call you back" but you'll never get a return call. You can also leave e-mail messages on their web site to schedule a special pickup, but again, you won't get a response. Worse than awful.

If I could give a 0 review I would unfortunately the lowest is 1, I m a new customer just received 1st bill and it s double than what they promised lots of hidden fees and for some reason the say the the taxes on $66 are over $20!!! My bill went from $145 to $283 in first service after only one service in 3 weeks!!! Don t waste your time call another company this is a rip off completely theft!

Just horrible. Miss trash pickups 25% of the time. Trash piles up and then often they miss the next time they were supposed to pick up the trash they missed. Basically they miss pickups over and over. How hard is it to pick up trash?! It s not rocket science. Sadly their competitors aren t any better which explains why they all have under 2 star rating.

Yard waste pick up starts at the beginning of March. So far we have been skipped twice--the only two times we have left yard waste out for pick-up. Customer service says they will send someone out, but no one ever comes. Usually they skip our recycling once a month. Again they promise to pick it up but no one ever comes. I have been a customer for years and in the last year the service has been appalling. Do not use this trash removal service.

Twice the driver has reported being at my house to pick up which is either false or he/she just did not pick up the trash. UGH
