Hmm. It makes me sad when I read these reviews. My experience with the volunteers in my area have been wonderful. We are still looking for the right dog to fit into my home, but in the meantime I would foster with them any day of the week!

LRRoF is a wonderful organization. I have adopted 2 labs from this group and would like to soon foster. This is a volunteer organization and they have their lives as well. The first lab I had was crazy and if I ever had any questions about him his foster was there to answer!! My second lab is a mellow female and her foster was just as amazing as the other. If you really want a great lab and a awesome organization just have a little patience and they will respond!!! Very grateful to them for the 2 loving labs I adopted through them!!!!

This organization does wonderful work. I have volunteered and fostered labs through this group for over 2 years now and am in awe of all they accomplish. LRROF is entirely volunteer operated and all donations go directly to the care of their dogs. They take in the sick, neglected, and surrendered dogs that oftentimes no one else will and provide an impressive experience for adopters--assigning them their own adoption coordinator to ensure they find the right fit for their new family member. We adopted our own dog from the rescue and were very grateful for all the support we recieved from the LRROF community when it came to medical and training advice. I couldn't be prouder to be part of such an amazing rescue.

Disheartened to agree with other posts stating that "If you have children go somewhere else". I have adopted Alaskan Malamutes from TAMR (Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue) as well as other rescues throughout our military career and I do understand the fears/legal concerns agencies have with adult dogs and children. But other agencies test young dogs (under 2) with children in the hopes of finding them a forever home since many families with children are hoping for a younger dog. Florida Lab Rescue does not test their dogs with children. We hoped to meet/adopt a 12 mth dog named Fred from this agency (who is listed as young not adult) we wanted to train him (have services in place already) to become an autism assistance therapy dog for our son, only to be denied because Pat Bayers says he is an adult and they will not place dogs with children period. They at this time have a puppy named Cam and Pat did not even offer him as an alternative. This goes to reinforce the many other comments on multiple search engines that "if you have kids, do not apply here". So disappointment.

this place is a scam. 25$ non refundable to apply for a dog you may not get. making sure it takes weeks to months too so that way they can get as many applicants as possible. Would be nice they actually cared more about getting these animals placed into homes with families to care for them.

Edit to respond:
My name is fun isnt it ?
Yes of course you take advantage to say that covid is the reason you take so long to place dogs into homes. I mean how many 25$ applicants can you get before people start raising alarms to this obvious scam. If your concern was placement then application process would be free or at least refunded if you didnt get the dog applied for. Covid is a great cover though well done.

Tomorrow will be the two week adoption anniversary of our sweet, chocolate lab. When we decided it was the right time for us to look into adopting a dog, we prepared ourselves mentally to be patient with the process and the search as we wanted it to be a good match for both us and the dog. I had been regularly looking on the website for potential dogs. I could tell that the volunteers and the organization take great care in providing as much information to make sure each adoption is the right fit (good with dogs, cats, children; age; activity level; habits, etc). I appreciated this extra effort as it helped us as well. I completed the online application, and soon after, our adoption counselor got in touch to make a home visit. We were fortunate enough to find our sweet boy right away who was a perfect fit for our family. We feel like we hit the doggy jackpot and couldn t be happier! Our vet couldn t believe how well-adjusted he was and how easily he had transitioned to live with us. I really believe that it has such a great deal to do with the love and care that he received by his foster parents before he came to us. They and our adoption counselor have kept in touch with us ensuring everything is going well and offering support or guidance if needed. We couldn t have dreamed of a better process or outcome and are so grateful for Labrador Retriever Rescue of FL.

LRRoF is a group of hardworking volunteers, no one is paid and all do rescue work on the side. I ve been involved with a few groups and this statewide organization is actually run the way rescues should run. People get frustrated because we live in an instant gratification world but folks will never understand unless they are knee deep in saving the lives, dealing with daily heartbreaks, fostering, looking for fosters, raising money, dealing with owner surrenders and their issues, and on top of all that and more - trying to get back to those interested in helping and adopting (multiple inquiries from email, phone calls, social media) in a timeline that satisfies them. So yes patience is important because the group truly does their best for each lab saved and gets him/her in adoptable health before going over applications and doing house visits and following up on references (yes the volunteers do that too). They count on the community for help but are let down many times themselves. So anything negative that happens, there is a reason. Volunteers have bad days and constantly frustrated themselves at the daily happenings that the public doesn t see or have to deal with...kudos to Lab Rescue for making a difference. Charlie Brown, my chocolate lab, appreciates you too.

My husband, 79, had mourned the loss of his two chocolate lab girls over the years. We live in a retirement community and so I knew we couldn t give a rambunctious little lab puppy what it needed, so I checked with LRROF. I filled out a rather long application in order to find a good match. I was told when you had specific needs, it could sometimes take a couple of months. I submitted the application on Thursday, got a call on Friday! Due to COVID, they did a phone interview and contacted our vet for references. Long story, shortened ) they matched us to a calm, sweet natured 4 year old chocolate lab coming off heart worm treatment. We drove from Lake County to Jacksonville to met her and it was love at first sight. They did a wonderful job matching us. We go to the dog park every day and my hubby has begun walking her in the neighborhood. She has really enriched our lives. Thank you LRROF!

My family adopted a five year chocolate Labrador Retreiver from the Rescue two years ago. They treated him for heart worm and had him neutered. He s the most gentle handsome boy and we love him. This is a great organization. They really care about their charges. The adoption process is thorough and they make sure the Labs are going to good homes. You fill out an application and they assign you a counselor who comes to your home before you meet any of their dogs. They want to make sure you re a good match and this requires a couple of meetings with the foster parent. If you love Labbies, you ll love LRROF. I couldn t imagine having anything but a great experience with these wonderful people.

We adopted a wonderful Chocolate Lab three weeks ago. I couldn't believe how smoothly the adoption process went. I was contacted quickly after my application was submitted and soon after found our forever dog. Everyone I spoke with was thorough and helpful which made me think that everything these volunteers do is for the wellbeing of the dog. And when I met my dogs foster mom, it truly warmed my heart to know no matter what happened in these animals pasts lives, she was providing the love they deserve until their forever home was found. Thank you all for what you do.

We brought our Kumba home one year ago and we thank LRROF every day for bringing this sweet beautiful Lab into our lives! From application, to home evaluation, to foster connecting, we knew that we were in the hands of a caring, discerning group of amazing volunteers. And, but for LRROF, Kumba would have perished from anemia the LRROF vet didn t know how he was even standing when he arrived from Puerto Rico. He is our strong and happy forever dog. We recommend this group very highly!

This is a fantastic rescue! We adopted a 5 year old chocolate lab in 2004 and an 8 year old yellow lab a couple of weeks ago. I love that all the dogs are in foster homes; it makes for easy match making. The fosters know them well and will make sure the dog is a good fit for your family. I m saddened by the poor reviews I ve seen. This is a completely volunteer based rescue and most have full time jobs outside of their volunteer position. Please have some patience! My Adoption Coordinator was Jenna and she was great! My dog s foster mom was Erika and she was also fantastic!

This is Lola she was with LRRoF the summer of 2020...

This is Lola she was with LRRoF the summer of 2020. After a few year of my significant other asking to get a dog I finally agreed. His family had adopted a chocolate lab from them back in 2002 (maggie) so I knew this group was going to be able to help us.
We put in an application and paid our donation to the group. Within a hour I received a message that I would be getting a call from a counselor who could help me meet up with people who are fostering dogs. This gentleman was main contact. We went over our desires in a future new family member together and he gave us a lovely lady's phone number who happened to be fostering Lola. We talked to her for about an hour she told us to take the night and to think about whether or not we wanted to meet her. I think we took all of 30 minutes before I messaged her and said we would like to meet the pup and when could we meet up? We ended up meeting Lola at her foster house. Before we even got home we both knew she was going to be a part of our family forever. She has exceeded our expectations for a loving new companion. And a wonderful woman that was fostering her has become a new family friend, we share pictures of Lola with her and she shows us her new foster puppies and she's also a wonderful contact when I have questions and concerns. this group really does want to know that their puppies and dogs are succeeding in their new homes they are here for you if you have any needs or wants.

Due to covered being an issue this year most of our family is staying out of town and not able to come home,we donated in their names to this organization and purchased calendars for them as part of their gift for Christmas. The staff has been wonderful working with me making sure everything is sent and the right names are on the right donations. honestly I could never get another dog from anyone else these people are amazing kind and caring not only to the puppies and dogs that they foster but to those of us who take on a new family member.

I spent a LONG time filling out the application as thoughtfully as possibly. It kept throwing me out so I had to start over again several times, however I appreciated the thoroughness of the application; it indicated they are truly vetting the potential adopters. Not only do we only rescue vs. using a breeder, but we have successfully educated a lot of friends and family on pet adoption. We rescued our last pup as a full grown dog from a rescue listed on Petfinder; she was with us for 11 years and had the best life. We provided her with any and all care possible to give her the best quality of life regardless of time involved, cost, etc. Ready to bring a new lab into our lives, we applied to this rescue. Someone is always home in our household. We have a large, fully fenced yard, have a membership to the dog park, and so much love to give to a new furry family member. We paid the donation fee, successfully submitted the application ....and.......... radio silence. We received an email indicating someone would reach out within 7 business days. That has not happened. The dog we were hoping for is gone. With no word regarding our "voluntary donation", we have brought a new rescue dog into our lives. from another shelter. So disappointed that after the lengthy application and the hard-earned money gone, no one even saw fit to communicate. This may be a "great" rescue based on some other reviews but there is nothing ok about taking people's money.

I put in an application (they have a non refundable application fee by the way) and never heard a word in response. I asked for an update 3 weeks after submitting my application and was told I would hear from someone soon. This was in August and I ve yet to get a response from anyone. Busy or not, if you are charging for applications, any response is better than none.

My family of five grew by two more this weekend. We have kiddos from 2 to 8 and we were contacted and visited by our volunteer quickly. She let us know about a 5 year old pair that would fit right in for our family. We ve only known them for such a short time, but the whole experience has been amazing and these two have given us so much love already. LRRoF is an amazing organization filled with people who give so much for such a special cause. Thank you LRRoF!

What an amazing organization LRROF is. I filled the application out. It took a couple days to hear from my local rep. But they are volunteers so I understand. Plus it s not like I am the only person trying to adopt. Well Martha was very flexible with my work schedule and she came to my house over the weekend. Couldn t have asked for a better person! She cares where the dogs are going to go and that was important to me. I picked a couple dogs and she said she would get back to me. One of them was adopted and one wouldn t be the right fit. She told me there is a newer dog and the foster thinks he s perfect for my house. She gave the foster my info and I talked to Danielle the next day. She answered every question. I think I kept her on the phone longer than a half hour! We set up a meet on Valentine s Day. I texted her the rest of the week with a million questions but she answered every one. I got there and Danielle was amazing! She introduced me to Onyx and I fell in love right away. She showed me how he is in every situation. I brought Onyx home yesterday and he is the perfect dog for our house. Thank you so much LRROF and especially to Martha and Danielle.

I have adopted two labs from LRRoF and will be back when it is time for my third. The process of finding a good fit takes some patience but the volunteers that foster the dogs are so helpful in helping you get to know the dog before you decide. Its not like going to a shelter and meeting a lot of dogs at once but its nice meeting a dog who is living with someone who knows what that dog is really like.

Not a good experience because of no experience at all.
Like others in reviews we are interested in adopting a lab. I paid the $25 application fee and filled out the form hoping to find a dog for our home.
It has been weeks. Not one person has contacted me. Are they really trying to adopt out dogs or are they just scamming potential forever homes for money??
Wish I would have read the reviews for this place before I took the time to fill out the form and pay the money. I would have gone with a more reputable organization.
Hopefully there are not a bunch of dogs there waiting to be adopted, because they will be there a long time waiting for a family.

I am choosing to edit my review, because of the response that I received from the company. Since I am unable to respond to your response.Read your reviews! They are not good. I am not the only person that is saying this. And the fact that you responded to my negative review within a day, but no one could find the time to respond to our application to adopt a dog a month ago..??
Makes me wonder.
It's disappointing overall because we started out with the process to adopt a dog, a rescue with a breed in mind. But knowing there are so many dogs out there needing good homes, we did not want to buy a dog.
But so far the experience has not been positive. And it sounds like a lot of people feel that way.
Too bad the response time for an application was not as speedy as your response to my review.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida, Inc. will accept applications and a deposit for adoptions. However, if 60 years or older the application will not be approved and the money will not be refunded instead only unlimited number of excuses why the adoption was not approved. This is an unacceptable business practice that should be addressed to the public.

I have had the privilege of working with Lab Rescue of Florida for many years. As a surgeon, they have asked me to help with many of their dogs that need orthopedic assistance. They have always put the needs of the dog first and they will follow the surgical recommendations and post-operative instructions precisely. I am so grateful to be able to be a part of the care of these wonderful rescue dogs who need a good home! Dr. Moore, Broward Veterinary Specialists

I had the best experience with them! They saved my beautiful boy who was abandoned by his first family at an animal shelter when they decided to move back north without him. Their loss was my gain and because of LRROF I met the love of my life! They are a dedicated group of VOLUNTEERS. People who have families and hold down jobs like we all do. But when others are enjoying their time off, they are doing the tough job of combing shelters, arranging veterinary care, picking up supplies, providing foster homes, interviewing applicants, managing the website, fund-raising! All with too little time and too little money. But a lot of heart. Thank you for saving lives and turning tragedies into second chances.

I filled out the application and paid the required donation. I didn t hear from anyone for weeks. I finally received an email and it stated that they were unable to approve my application and because of their policy they could not state the reason for the decline. We have two rescued dogs that have been with us for years and a previous rescue that was with us for 16 years until he passed away. We have no children in the house and someone is home the majority of every day with a fenced in back yard. We have had the same vet for years and have owned our house for over a decade. I feel like a sucker for giving the donation as it doesn t seem they are a legitimate rescue. To not offer the reason seems absurd. We are disappointed to say the least and hope we are completely wrong in our assessment for the sake of the dogs that are desperate for homes. Proceed with caution on this one.

THE WORST RESCUE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I called them to get help with a dog I had seen online that was on the the list to be euthanized. They read my message and never responded to me (direct message via Instagram). So I went to get him myself. They then proceeded to blocked me on Instagram for tagging them and trying to network. These people are a sad excuse for a rescue, not only do they lack normal communication skills, they seemingly don't even care!

I have a Black Lab that I am forced to surrender so I contacted Florida Lab Rescue they told me they would mark it as urgent so we could get him into a good home as soon as possible the next day I was contacted with a list of tests he needed before going into the program $200 later because it was something they said they need urgently I went to the first place I could. It then took them another 3 days to actually schedule a meet with him I show up to the meet and Pat Bayers tells me he dosen t look like a lab he looks like a pit-bull and there is nothing they can do keep in mind when I adopted this dog I had his DNA tested and he is Black Lab and Great Dane ZERO PITBULL. Now they have wasted my time and my money and I have to start again from square one a week I could have spent on finding him a good home because you make judgements. Lastly the best part I sent them 3 pictures of all sides of this dog when submitting the application not a single word was said about it.

We adopted a 9 month old lab pup in March. My son immediately (the day we picked her up) noticed something wrong with her vision. We commented on this, but were told it was just because she was in new surroundings. LRROF offered & paid for a vet check at their vet. He (Dr. Elliot, Best Care Animal Hospital ) said there was no problem with her eyes. We ended up taking her to Dr. Miller at Tampa Bay Vet Specialists. He told us that her retinas were scarred, leaving her 50% blind. We love her, but don't appreciate the lack of professional care & concern we received from LRROF. They have never called to see how we are doing, although I have called them. I know that there are no guarantees with rescues, but we would have liked more support/interest from them.

LRRoF is a non for profit, volunteer based group that cares about the breed and making sure the dogs find the right home. I ve adopted two dogs from them and couldn t imagine our lives without them. If you or someone you know is looking for a new furry family member you can t go wrong with the love you get from a Labrador. I ve heard people at the dog park complain about adoption process and to them I say go volunteer at the local shelter for a weekend and you ll understand why they do the check list they do. They do their best to place the dog and the best fit.

If you currently have any dogs in your household that are not "altered" according to Vicki, you won't be approved to adopt a lab. Sad part is I adopted a lab from this organization over 10 yrs ago and that lab was with my current unaltered lab with no issues at all. It would be appreciated prior to an adoption fee a criteria is provided so that you are better informed in order to apply for an adoption or not. Seems like an easy way to get 25 bucks from someone who can genuinely adopt a lab and give it a great life but then get turned down over the fact that I don't plan on neutering my lab for my own reasons and don't plan on breeding him either. Oh well I guess I can just buy a lab or puppy and start all over again if that is the case.

I wish I could say this was a great experience but I think it just depends the adoption counselor assigned to your location. After not hearing from anyone after completing the application along with the payment I called the main number. My husband and I spoke with Mary a couple of times. She was awesome. She had our area counselor get in touch with us. We spoke on a Monday and she said she had been busy with work, but also had decided to keep the dog we were interested in anyway. She said she would call on Friday to set up an appointment for Saturday. She was also going to bring the dog we couldn t have with her....lol. We never received a call on Friday. She did call Saturday. By then she had lost
credibility with us. Would she show up on Saturday or process our paperwork timely? We decided to work with another rescue. While I can appreciate the fact that they are volunteers, we all have lives and commitments as well. How much time does a phone call take? I have read the positive reviews and I m truly happy for those great outcomes.

I'm not sure if I just had bad luck or bad timing-...

I'm not sure if I just had bad luck or bad timing- I hope either is the case because I had high hopes choosing this rescue and I think the work they do is amazing. My boyfriend and I applied late August and took our time making sure we had a great application. We have been talking about adopting a dog for about a year, as we know this is a life long commitment to our new furry family member. We submitted the application and waited and didn't hear anything. We were fully aware of the notice on the website which says to call them if you can't haven't heard from them in 7 days. I think we waited about 2 weeks just to make sure we gave enough time, as we didn't want to bother anyone since we did realize this is volunteer based. So we waited and then finally I called and left a message as well as sent an e-mail to their help desk. I did receive a call a few days later from someone stating that my payment for the application had not gone through and they also saw I lived in an apartment so that could be why no one had contacted me. So my question was why didn't anyone tell me my payment hadn't gotten through? I had my bank statement to prove I paid it. And why didn't anyone at least ask about my apartment lease contract which states I am allowed to have a dog?

I ignored this and continued with the process. The person that called me stated they will have someone call me soon. I waited about another week, no one called me. So I called again. Then I was called and they told me they escalated it and asked a volunteer in my area to do a home visit soon. The volunteer was great and contacted me promptly to do the home visit. She did the home visit and we passed right away. But then I was left without knowing who my adoption counselor was. So I looked on petfinder and sent a few messages to pets from this rescue I was interested in. The fosters just referred me to speak to my adoption counselor...which I didn't have. I again, sent an email and left a voicemail. I heard back a few days later and was told my adoption counselor was the person who conducted my home visit. The volunteer was not aware of this and she tried to be as helpful as possible but by then I was just tired of it.

I went with another rescue and found our new furry best friend. I completely understand this rescue is volunteer based but please don't continue to let potential adopters like this fall through the cracks...you're preventing the dogs from finding their future forever homes.

LRROF has been great for me. I adopted one lab 11 years ago and another this year through them. They are an organization that does not adopt ON SITE. You need to go through a process of paying $25 application fee, scheduling a home visit then finding a lab for you. You cannot expect seeing a lab at one of the events will still be available a week later. When I look at the website they labs seem to get adopted quickly. The application fee is one of the cheaper fees then other organizations I have looked into. This rescue I learned is broken up into districts. I was in the Volusia county district and Pinellas county district and had great volunteers. Thank you for all that you do.

Disappointed to say the least. We found a dog on their website and called to ask if he was available. They said yes, so we immediately filled out paperwork, and paid the initial fee. A week later a "representative" called and after a few minutes said the dog was NOT listed or available. WHAT? If he had been spoken for, or adoption was pending, they should have told us when we inquired for him. (Chip aka Danny) We have been looking for over a year for a great match and this was the first time we had contacted business about adoption. I think possibly the foster family decided to keep him after someone inquired. I don't know why, but they are undependable as the information you receive from them. I know they are all volunteers and the work all of they do is greatly appreciated, but please clean up your information.

We adopted a lab mix in early October. It was the evening at adoption time. The next day, we noticed the dog was underweight, with diarrhea. We immediately took him to the vet. The dog's last medical exam was in August. It showed in August the dog had this same condition. No one from Lab rescue had taken him to the vet. So they adopt out dogs before clearing them medically. It's been a month now. Over a 1,000 in medical bills later, this dog is slowly improving. On day 2 I called the woman who was fostering him. She said to just return him. I felt that since they didn't take care of him, we would. We really like him. I would not adopt from Lab rescue again. I felt that it was irresponsible of them not to give him a complete vet exam before adopting him out. Since we received his medical records the next day, our vet indicated this was an ongoing condition. This was not a new one. Simply adopting a dog out is not enough without proper vetinary care. It was clear to us that LRROF was neglectful.

It s no secret that Florida has far too many animals in need of rescue. Especially large breed dogs. Well, this Labrador rescue is exceptionally well respected in the rescue community. They do such a great job of pulling dogs, fostering and rehoming. This rescue is run completely professionally and should be a beacon for other rescues to model best practices by. I m always amazed and impressed.

The process went smoothly, from applying online, to our home visit by the local coordinator, to our drive to the foster home to meet and pick up our new dog, Hershey Girl-- we renamed her Chewie . She is a wonderful dog and has enhanced our lives with her energy and total love.

After we lost our yellow lab before the holidays, our chocolate lab was very upset and lonely. I completed application through the lab rescue of Florida hoping to get paired with a puppy since we have a 5 year old daughter at home. Every experience with the lab rescue has been phenomenal. We received a quick response to my application from the local representative who came for the home visit a few days after the phone interview. She was very helpful and kind. She informed us there was a puppy available that day and gave us a contact information of the Foster family. I spoke with a Foster mom for quite a while and arranged a visit the next morning. We enjoy a nice long visit with the Puppy and our family ... falling in love instantly. Unfortunately, the puppy still had a few health issues that and had to be checked with the vet, so we were not able to pick her up for another week. The Foster family was in contact daily with pictures and updates on her progress. It was a smooth and wonderful transition o bring the puppy into our home. I continue to be in contact with a Foster mom and we could not be happier with the latest addition to our family. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work, dedication and compassion.

We have rescued two dogs now from them a yellow lab named Mobi and a black lab named Jimmy they work very hard to make sure that these dogs go to a wonderful home. Jimmy needed some veterinary care and the Lab Rescue took care of everything which was amazing. I highly recommend them to anyone.
