Not the Filson I used to know.
Not the Filson I used to know.
1 Stars for the products that are still/currently made in the U.S.
I used to buy one nice item a year from them as I knew it would last a long time and was a quality product. They would repair garments/bags that had torn, or wore out, if needed. It really used to be a great store.
I stopped shopping there over 6 years ago when my wife bought me a Filson sweater that was made in China.
I went in today to redeem a gift certificate and thought I would get a shirt or two (as I all ready have many coats, jackets, bags, and wool items from them that are all at least 10 years old). I saw some shirts I liked and picked them up. While standing in the incredibly long line with my incredibly bored daughter, I noticed the tags said "made in India". $150+ for a shirt made in India? No way! I spoke with a receptionist on the way out and all she said was that it is not economical to make shirts in the U.S.. There are several other companies not owned by Bedrock Manufacturing Co. ( private equity and venture capital firm, current owner of Filson) making and selling shirts in the U.S. for $50.00.
Filson has really lost all credibility for me as I cant see paying a $150 on something that cost them $5. I refuse to feed into rewarding venture capital firms for removing more jobs from the U.S. yet charging as if they had been made in the U.S. Yes, their more expensive items are made in the U.S., just make sure to look at the label before you buy from Filson. In the past 10 years, I have seen so many companies move their production from the U.S. and not reduce the price of the items, just the quality (Carhartt is one example).
I guess I'll keep having to order my shirts, shoes, socks, etc... from reputable american manufacturers. If we don't insist on quality made U.S. products, you'll just pay the same amount for poor quality overseas products while the Dallas based owners line their pockets with profits made by overseas labor.
How do I donate my gift card to charity?
