My husband and I decided to really start looking for someplace else to live, partly because we wanted to live in another 'better' place and partly because we were being asked to leave where we were living, because the landlord wanted to upgrade the property and raise the rent. We started talking to a lot of realtors, renters, and mortgage companies with being told 'what to do and how to do it. With total frustration starting to set in, I got a hold of Veterans First Mortgage off the internet. My husband is a Vet out of the Navy and we were hoping to get a 0 down Vet type loan. I started talking and working with Melissa Staples (Loan Officer). She was always so friendly and understanding to all our questions and problems. We tried so many different scenarios to see what was best for us. A VA loan type didn't work, so we tried a FHA type and it seemed to fit perfectly. She helped us understand the whole process and was even able to help us get more down pymt money. We could not have done this by ourselves at all, and feel truly grateful to Melissa for all she did for us. A few hiccups here and there, she was always able to solve them and as of today, we are moving into our new home. We are forever grateful to Melissa and hope she gets a Great Big Kudos for a Job Very Well Done!! We're Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Very Happy 2020 New Year!! Thank You Melissa and Veterans First Mortgage for putting us in our new house. Sincerely, Teresa Miller.
Everything was quick and simple I didn t spend a lot of time with them Sannya was very helpful and professional with me
I spoke top a really friendly guy that gave me the best advice and didn't try to sell me anything. He told me how to achieve my refinancing goals and mortgage goals and then we said goodbye. When and If ever I actually need to refinance I am calling this company. Every other company I called they were sales people trying to take my money. I freedom didn't. they gave me advice and said so long! Brilliant!
I recently relocated and shopped around for the best mortgage company to purchase my new house. Through my research I found Veterans First Mortgage Company. These guys were OUTSTANDING to work with from start to finish. My Loan Officer "Adam Freedman" went above an beyond in every phase of the loan process which we all know can be a bit stressful. However Adam stayed InTouch and carefully walked me through every phase of the process through closing BTW they made happen in three weeks! I am very impressed and highly recommend these guys for your mortgage needs!
Kitty Franks was our loan officer. She was absolutely wonderful! She knows her stuff and she walked us through every step with friendly, positive professionalism. Absolutely a wonderful experience!
Loan agent very polite, But did not get the closing done correctly.
Real Estate tax due at closing not paid, caused an escrow adjustment
within 90 days raising the payment over $200 for what would have been $8
a month month i the payment. The Suck, I never had a tax problem in my life. Now I do. Thanks Maybe I should have gone to a different lender.
Veterans 1st! More like Money making 1st, customers are treated like second class citizens. My house closing was delayed 2 weeks because of "misplaced" paperwork. Tried to contact the manager only to leave 5 voicemails with no response. BUYER BEWARE!
I m shocked at all the bad reviews! Our loan went smoothly and our loan officer, Wayne was fabulous! He was patient, knowledgeable, pleasant, friendly and ALWAYS returned my calls even if it was just to ask questions, even AFTER we closed the loan.
HOWEVER, our attempt to refinance with them doesn t seem to be going so smoothly. We wanted to stay with the same company, but I always shop around and so I found a better offer ( much better ) and decided we might go with them. I will not say what company, but I checked their reviews and they re ALL five stars! It pays to shop around so that s what we did. My advice is to do so and never forget that an organization is only as good as it s staff. We got lucky and got the right staff/loan officer right away.
Best experience in obtaining a mortgage I have ever had and cannot say enough good things about Zack Jolley , my loan officer. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I've been working a sale and this co. won't stop harassing my client even though both of us has told them my client is going with a different lender. They continue to insert themselves into my client's affairs and have given horrible advice. The advice they gave goes against real estate license law in my state and may have cost my client thousands of dollars and may be sued. The loan officer calls me and when I can't pick up they call multiple times in a row even though I am obviously busy. They don't care about the interests of borrowers, but only their own in obtaining the business. Horrible and shady business practice. Please do not let them near your mortgage loan process!
BUYER BEWARE! They give our prequals like candy and then rescind it once under contract! Had it in writing no contingencies then half way to closing they take it back and said 'something came up on their credit and they have to sell their house first'. I had it in writing that they did not have to sell first! Second time they pulled the rug out from the buyer's contract, which costs everyone time and money! Communication is very poor and that's a big red flag- if your lender is ignoring you and your agent, somethig is wrong.. USE A LOCAL LENDER. Seriously. I don't understand why buyers go online other than companies like these tell them what they want to hear. A good local lender will tell you how to fix your credit or DTI to get to where you need to be. Prequals aren't worth the paper written on. These kind of online companies are a nightmare to agents and they destroy the dreams of the clients.
Veterans First Mortgage has truly been a blessing to our family! Aaron Moughan took us ob when we got criticized and talked down to with Union Home Mortgage Todd Lillo. It was the worst experience of my life as a first time home buyer, but then Aaron at Veterans First changed that! When he tells you he s gonna call, man does he follow through. Always on time and works extremely hard to get you where you need to be and does not stop. I would recommend him to everyone that is looking to buy a home, this place is amazing. Thank you Aaron for doing everything you can to get us the house we truly love and as quickly as possible! You guys are amazing.
This is by far the absolute worst company I have ever encountered. Excuse after excuse, and paperwork not quality checked before submitting to underwriting. My family has been waiting on a clear to close for more than 12 days after numerous mistakes made by the loan officer. To include, the wrong address on a form, requesting forms that were already submitted, and just plain lack of attention to detail. As we approach week 3 after our busted suspense, we still are no closer to a resolution that we were a week ago.Now we have management involved in hopes that we can get this deal complete before it cost us more money, time, and heartache. It s sad that after reading numerous reviews that this company is still in business. Please!!!! Save yourself the headache and use a more reparable company!
They said your loan is approved and they made us get a home and everything on our part was clear. Then 2 days before closing they wanted another bank statement for this month. Now it s another problem. They promise and promise and we lost a nice home, money, time, work, and our apartment now. What a company, don t promise if you can put it to the table. I worry for my fellow servicemen. Veterans United is the way to go.
Absolutely terrible. Dorothy Bump confirmed a time to talk, never called. Told her I wanted my daughter on the mortgage also, she also sent a confirmation email. Never called, did not contact her. Since I have retired recently, my daughter and I would need to purchase together.
Then I received 2 letters telling me my debt balances were high, dah. Just retired, haven't received my first payment yet.
They are not helpful at all. Going with another VA mortgage company, they are getting it right.
Stay away from Veterans First.
No such thing as personalized service. And they do not know how to accommodate veterans who have disabilities such as anxiety disorders or PTSD. My so-called credit expert has been working with me for almost a year and doesn't even know my name. Kinda got my feelings hurt. And it's not a very common name...he's like, Kieran who?
100% Unprofessional. Worked with Jay Hartmann on my loan estimate and they could not meet any of their commit dates (issue #1). When answering the phone, he kept saying "Sup Chris" when greeting me (issue #2). As I didn't get a good feeling for missed dates and the professionalism, I went with another company. After the rates changed and I called back, he was very short with me because I didn't pick them and said he would not work with me unless I provided all the quotes I got from the other company, I said "no thank you" and he said "ok bye" and hung up within a split second and in a very unprofessional tone (issue #3). Well, this reconfirmed my initial feeling for why I didn't go with this company in the first place. Thanks Jay!
I believe they have changed their name now because all the paperwork use to say ifreedom direct on it. I m sure they have ran that name into the ground though.
We worked w them for almost 2 months and the day before closing told us they couldn t not help us get into this house!!! Meanwhile all along the week prior we were told everything was good to go!
We switched companies and were in our house within 6 days and that was over thanksgiving break as well! I would highly recommend veterans united home loans! They were great and saved us!
Approved for everything up until a few days before closing. Paid for inspection and appraisal then denied last minute. Cost us $1000 and got denied.
Had the pleasure of playing phone tag for a couple of days with Jay Hartmann. He stated rates are very low and now is the time to refinance so I asked how low are the rates for someone with excellent credit based on todays VA rates and he said 2.9%. I informed him 2.75% was a better rate received from other lenders and then he said 2.29% is our rate at this time. Maybe I could be wrong but 2.29% is super low. After that I allowed him to talk and then I asked him a question about what all is taken in consideration for low interest rates and the answer I got was beyond crazy. Jay stated we take into consideration your credit history, location where you live and SIZE OF YOUR HOUSE. Smdh. After that I told him I ll think about it because he was being pushy and I needed to do some research on the company. Once again all he keep saying was I m trying to help you all I need is your info to pull credit. Smdh. I said I call you later and he hung up on me. 3 mins later he called my phone again. Bottom line, Jay business practices need some polishing up.
No stars - but that wasn't an option. I have been in real estate for 16 years and this is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with. No return emails, phone call or text messages. They have dragged out a closing so long we are completely having to change loan officers. Two families are without homes because of this company.
Nina Alcala was amazing. Ask for her and you'll be treated fairly and with empathy and a true desire to help you. She went way above and beyond and could not have been a better representative of this company.
As I was reading the reviews, it scares me but looks like this is not what we are experiencing with our Loan Officer, right now. We just closed a deal to acquire our first home and we are in the process of doing the documentation and seems that our Loan Officer, Zach is doing a good job. He always returns call and very patient in explaining the loan details. He worked hard in helping us. Thank you Zach...
We will write another review when the transaction is finished.
All the best,
Charles & Olivia
Sannya is truly amazing & very helpful. Will definitely recommend Veterans First Mortgage
Very shady company! Dozens of 1 star reviews don't lie. Look elsewhere for employment and lending! Terrible!
As an active duty Soldier purchasing a home can be particularly stressful and time consuming - Especially in today's seller's-market environment. I usually do not write reviews but Cody Wiseman from Veteran's First was so helpful, patient, and accommodating that I felt compelled to let my Battle Buddies know. He is very knowledgeable and more importantly he is honest and seems to truly have our best interests in mind. On top of that, he literally saved me thousands of dollars compared to 6 different lenders that I got quotes from. I highly recommend that you give him a shot. IGY6
Breanna has been wonderful, sticking with us the whole way through the process of getting our dream home. She helped us through the rough patches and hurdles we ran into and Always with encouraging words! She explained everything to us and always had answers or found the answer to every question we had!! Veterans first made home buying easy for us!! Thank you Breanna and Veterans first! We highly recommend Vetetans first!!
Patricia
Was told by Jan Davis everything was done on Monday for closing on Friday. Today is Wednesday and was just told maybe Tuesday at the earliest. Stay clear and save yourself a lot of frustration.
I must say I had a very good experience with the initial mortgage. We had a great loan officer. However, six month in we get a call to refinance by an extremely pushy and demanding employee. She has called several times, and emailed several times even though I politely told her I m not interested right now. Followed by more phone calls a month later and then even more 2 months from a different number because I blocked the other. She was extremely rude when I told again I was not interested. Blocked the number again.
Probably the worst service and least amount of concern for the borrower that I have seen in my career. Was originally supposed to close on July 31 which would have been a week early but someone has been completely IGNORING my buyer and now they are closing a week LATE. Completely unacceptable. I would give them ZERO stars if possible...they just don't seem to care at all.
From start to finish Veterans First and Jed were GREAT. Made the process easy and kept me informed of each and every process. Buying a home for the first time can be a very stressful event, but a LOT of the stress was made at ease thanks to their hard work and constant communication.
I was treated professionally from start to finish. Loan closed on time and as discussed. Great rate too. 2.75%
Nathaniel Lewis and Veterans First Rock! If I could give TEN STARS, I would rate them an ELEVEN.
I will try to make a long story short. I am a Vet and planned two years in advance, to use my benefits to obtain a mortgage. I did my research, talked to many brokers and thought I had found the right one.
We started the process in July 2019 with a close date at the very end of October as I had just accepted a new position which required us to relocate to a new state and move 400-500 miles away. I knew this was a tight time frame and worked very closely with my broker to make sure we met every milestone.
We were less than 3 weeks away from our closing, and EVERYTHING had been done...except I could not get a final commitment from the broker. After several deadlines had come and gone with a seller loosing confidence, I sought out a new firm and broker to help us. I was told this was insane!
Out of desperation, I contacted Nathaniel Lewis at Veterans First. It took an hour to explain my situation and provide all the documentation. But he called me back within just a few hours and after consulting with his boss and underwriter, felt that not only could they take over the process in flight, but also could do it within a day or two of our original closing date.
This required an obscene amount of work and extra effort on his part and a very flexible process from his support team. They worked evenings, weekend and made calls to real estate reps, lawyers and title search firms...but they got the job done, and within one business day original closing date requirement! NO ONE I talked to, believed we could get this done.
On top of all this, Nathaniel kept us informed every step of the way...calling/emailing/texting me sometimes hourly - he is the very essence of excellent customer service.
I will NEVER use any one other than Nathaniel or Veterans First Mortgage again for my VA needs. Make Nathaniel and Veterans First your FIRST call.
Working with this company you are setting yourself up for failure....Run Quickly and Never Look Back...If I could give a negative rating, I would... They dropped the ball, not once but twice,...I worked with Rickey at VF for 4 months, I switched to Veteran's United and was able to close within 10 days. Rickey had a pleasant personality that made me believe in him, but their process is unprofessional and flawed exponentially... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME HOME BUYER!!!
My experience with Vetrens first mortgage was very professional . An Seleste Atkins was my financial helper in getting my mortgage threw VA . she went beyond an above working my loan case for me . No matter what obstacles were in the way. She was very confident in what she dose. She told me just to have no worries that she's confident that she would work with me an complete to the signing of my. New home owner ship . The small hertles on the way threw this process were nothing for Seleste Atkins . I personally think she's a Angel sent from heaven. She allways ansured my questions An an my phone calls to help me understand the process of first time home owner. If I had to do this all over again with Seleste Atkins . He'll yes Deffinatelly I would have her work my Vetrans First mortgage again. For this reason she earned 5 stars from me. An I would double them if I could .

RUN RUN RUN! Lenders can make mistakes, but this lender does NOT NOT NOT care about taking responsibility to help Veterans when Veterans First makes a mistake. Giving them a 1 star is too much for dishonest dealings. Up front, friendly and seemed competent, but the people we dealt with ended up knowing absolutely nothing about TWIA and the Texas Windstorm Insurance requirements. We had to educate them, then they still ignored my buyers submission of invoices and paperwork for coverage. Instead, they insisted on using coverage they allegedly verified separately through GEICO's Texas contact, or we couldn't close. A few weeks later, the buyers received a refund for "OVERPAYMENT" of premium. It didn't sound right to me, but again, it was allegedly verified by the Veterans First team. Shortly thereafter, Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas Gulf Coast. The Buyers' house was damaged. They tried to file a claim with TWIA, but they couldn't find the policy. So in checking with GEICO's connection in Texas who was supposed to take care of it after receiving funds, buyer was told "no premium payment was received", so no insurance. When we tried to get VeteransFirst to help, they refused. When we investigated further, we found out it was Veterans First's error in their instructions to the title company and subsequent error of Wellington Insurance (GEICO's assigned agency) that both affected whether or not the buyers had any TWIA coverage. It was not until we threatened to sue that Veterans First had their attorney contact me and lead us to believe they were going to fairly settle the claim. They asked me for proof. We sent "some" emails as evidence of what the buyers requested for insurance versus what Veterans First made them use. Suddenly, even with proof in their hands that Veterans First made the initial error, their attorney stopped communicating and has made no effort to help out the veteran buyer that they allegedly care for. Fortunately, at the advise of a professional who had a lot of legal dealings, we weren't stupid enough to send all evidence, including the recorded phone conversations that proved the loan office had no clue about TWIA coverage. So now we are filing complaints with the State of Texas against Veterans First, iFreedom (their parent company), CENLAR who Veterans First sold loan to and who sent letters with false information to the veteran and then promised to investigate (but also has cut off communications), GEICO, Wellington Insurance and StarStone National Insurance (affiliated with Wellington). RUN RUN RUN!!!! Stay away from this lender.
They quick and good learned a lot from them thank you
So far so good. Been working on a IRRL with Arthur, my rate was 4.25 and it s been cut nearly in half. I ll be saving myself money each month. Hopefully the process is smooth and everything goes well. I might update my review if I have any issues. They respect your privacy and time and don t bother you a bunch.
Not at all useful. Tried contacting Garrett Jensen several times to no avail. Horrible company!!!!!!
Veterans First Mortgage was quite helpful in my first VA loan for my new house. They explained everything in complete details about the process. I was completely happy with their service.
Working there in the contacting department is great. Managers are swell but beware, checks are never consistent.
We had the unfortunate experience of working with David Hawkes with veterans first one a VA home loan. We were looking to find a better rate with a lender so pike with David. At first he was great, told us he could get us a lower interest rate on the home we were under contract with and also pre approve us for a higher number than the lender we had been working with. We let him know Thursday and Friday that we had a deadline to finalize finances by that Monday evening at 5 pm. We got all the documents in to him Saturday by noon. On Monday I reached out to him asking if he had everything he needed as I had not yet heard from him. He stated he needed a few more things which I immediately sent. His response was that his manager had gone home and he they would review it the next day. I did not receive anything from him until today (Wednesday). He had not followed through with a high pre approval number and had not been diligent in finalizing paperwork on time. He did not answer our calls often and did not call us back. The whole process was completely unprofessional and we took our business elsewhere. I do not recommend veterans first and wish we had read reviews prior to letting them ding our credit. Go somewhere else.
After 2 years of supplying document after document multiple times after 2 years and four loan officers after 2 years of being told, I think we re about done and we should be good with everything , only to be sent another list of 10 more documents you want WE ARE DONE!!
I have never experienced a mortgage lending institution that makes it completely impossible to obtain a mortgage and for a messily $62k. Maybe that has been the issue all along. The lending amount is only $62k and this is a waste of time for your organization from a commission and profit return perspective.
We were reassured that before he left for deployment to Afghanistan, this matter would all be resolved. Now, 2 days before he deploys you send another list of required documents that is impossible for him to get together while trying to prepare for deployment. So much for supporting those brave military folks that put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms you enjoy.
Terrie will call 4@5 times a day, I'm not going to refinance, please have her stop calling, Took 3 months the last time to straighten out what she did, just Stop !
I had to find out information on what was going on with my loan from my realtor. They communicate as well as a rock. My closing date was set for Friday. Last Friday they told my realtor there is a problem and didn't get back to me till Monday when I caused a fit all up and down the company. I have sent everything they asked for and done everything and they don't amount for anything. Go with a local lender! This company will give you the green weenie.
I have been a broker-in-charge of my own real estate company for over 45 years. I recently had a transaction in which I was the seller and a local real estate agent represented the buyer. They chose Veterans First as a mortgage lender, and it was a disastrous deal. They were as unprofessional a lender as I have dealt with in memory. Nothing was done timely, they were totally uncommunicative with both me and the closing attorney, and the closing was delayed a month because of their inability to obtain and process the requirements of a normal loan. I would not have another transaction using this company.
We just closed on our 2nd home EARLY, thanks to the hard work of Aaron Maughan and Tara Metcalf, along with the rest of the team at Veteran s First.
We started with another local mortgage company on the recommendation of our realtor, but when it became apparent that that mortgage company was all talk and no results, we called Veteran s First. I wish we had made the call to Aaron first. What amazing customer service from start to finish. There was not a day that went by that we didn t have open communication about our loan and where it was in the process, along with what we needed to prepare next. Tara was so helpful in preparing closing and contacting everyone we needed as well. Even with having a complicated sale of our previous home, they made the process stress free and amazing. Because of their professionalism and hard work, we were able to close EARLY (when does that happen?) and move into our new home before my husband deployed. I cannot say enough good things about this company!
I've never seen a more pushy company in my life. I emailed them to request information and was called 4 times by them in less than 3 hours. While I was interested in doing business with them, I have no desire to be harassed into such.
Today, 9/3/20, The Loan Officer lied to me saying that the VA doesn't guarantee manufactured homes. She tried to talk me into a FHA loan. When I said I speak to the VA Mtg dept twice a week and they DO guarantee manufactured homes, she got verbally nasty and hung up on me.
We had three different people emailing us non of whom communicated with each other before asking us the client to provide documents. Most of the documents that we provided had been provided MULTIPLE times but due to lack of organization and communication between the VA loan staff they had no idea if items were provided. This company should provide/create a web link to drop documents so that all can review and see what has been provided. Staff should communicate with the main loan officer to see if things have been asked or provided before they ask the client to provide those items. Also, I find it of poor knowledge that they staff could not understand that someone who works for "their" state government can work for multiple agencies within that state and those agencies are "not" changes in job status. I have worked for NY State for over twenty years and this loan officer and other staff could not understand that when reading my job history. I have worked for several agencies but they are "ALL" NY State employment....a constant state of employment with no GAPS! This was by far the worst company to work for and we will be contacting our NY State Attorney General's office as well as the Better Business Bureau and the Department of Financial Services. In addition, I would like to mention that the "math error" which was for when this lender refers a realtor "we found our own realtor before we contacted the lender" was added erroneously to the CD. The lender tried to strong arm us into dumping our realtor and at the end they tried to make her take a cut in her fee, which is illegal to do!
Thank you to Celeste Atkins of Veteran's First VA Loans for assisting my husband and I with the purchase of our first home. The excellent customer service we received from Ms. Atkins exceeded our expectations. We were provided with detailed information from beginning to end which made the process much easier than we had anticipated. If you are looking for a company that helps make home buying as stress free as possible, Veteran's First VA Loans should be your choice!

Amazing experience with my agent Miss Kitty she was the BEST !!!! She helped all along the way in getting a mortgage. From every step along the way she was the most thoughtful and knowledgeable. My credit was not the best but she helped me step by step in bringing it up to a number that was acceptable.Would like to express my gratitude to her and everyone else at Veterans First with their help . Steve McIlvaine
Couldn't be happier with Veterans First Mortgage and Jeff. He is very good at helping veterans obtain a home loan. Highly recommend.
I had the very pleasant experience of working with Alek Franks. He made the entire process so simple and easy. He was there for me any time I reached out with questions. I m so grateful to him for all his knowledge and experience, but mostly I m grateful for easy reassuring nature. I call him my Angle from God. Im certain all the way through the process he was in my corner and looking out for my best interest. I would give him 100 stars if I could.
One Happy customer

I worked with Jeff Albritton and he helped me with the process very closely through every step. Very helpful for me being a first time home buyer. The only delay was the VA . He always kept me confident in it working out.
Veterans First truly lived-up to their name. During my mortgage process my needs came first. They assigned Jolene Taylor to assist us. Jolene was wonderful keep us informed, helped us overcome any and all problems we encountered. She was always ahead of the game. I will and have recommended Veterans First to other veterans looking for a mortgage. My experience with them was priceless. Highly recommended. I would use them again and again. If Jolene Taylor is the one assisting you YOUR ARE IN GREAT HANDS!!!
I first went with Veterans United, and even though I had great credit of over 700, no bills but a car that had 8k left on it, and a great job. They would only offer 150k, which isn't enough for my family to have a house. There also was no communication for 4months, so My fiance found VA first Mortgage, and we were offerd 300k. Tony Peck was amazing when it came to financing are new house. He always had answers for are questions, and called us for updates. After finding a house, we got it with then a few weeks. He was a pleasure to work with, and recommend anyone to go with Veterans First Mortgage.
When I initially started business with Veterans First I went on and saw nothing but terrible reviews. After purchasing my 2nd home with Veterans I have nothing but good things to say. My credit needed a little work and both Danielle and Alek did an amazing job getting me on the right track and kept patient.
During the process of buying the home Alek Franks kept me in well informed, was very knowledgeable and all around I had a very good experience.
I highly recommend Veterans First and will be doing business with them in the future.
Had a great experience with my VA streamline refi. Got a killer rate, low cost, no runaround with my agent Donald S. Paperwork took a lot longer than I would have expected, but that problem seems to be industry-wide with the pandemic going on.
They were not even close to ready the week of closing. Despite having ample time to review our loan, during the last minutes of the game, they fell through. They asked us to do a lot of different things at the end and we did. Despite that, they said there was something else wrong in our file. If they would have told me that first I could have fixed that first. I even suggested to resolve the item first and they said don't worry about it at the time.
Was approved two days later by another lender, but the seller had backed out by that time. I lost about 800 dollars in this transaction and a good bit of time.
Luckily a few months later I wound up purchasing a more expensive home. I would try to work with a local company first before thinking about giving Veteran's First Mortgage a try.
I think they turned off their Facebook reviews. Now their page lists the company as a Place of Worship???
Great organization! Dorothy Bump is the best loan officer I have ever worked with. We were trying to get closed with another organization and they didn't get it done in a timely manner. Luckily I was also working with Dorothy concurrently and she was ready when I told her the other company couldn't get it done when I needed them to. She was able to get us closed within a week! We are very grateful for her and the team at Veterans Mortgage. If you are trying to get a home loan done, Dorothy is the lady to call!
Sue hodges is the WORST person there. She picks and chooses favorites and will fire you if she doesnt like you. BEWARE of the favorites and the cliques. they can cost you your job. She is a BULLY.
I highly recommend Veterans First and Jason Poteet. He saved us and got us in the house we were building in a timely fashion.
Ive been working with john sharp to up my credit and he has been a huge help in telling what i need to do amd checking in wvery so often to see where im at but not so much to be a pest hes been great so far and im probably a month or so away from getting a house
We are first time homebuyers. I never leave reviews because even when I get bad service I just always thought they must've had a bad day. Since the home buying process is different it is IMPORTANT for me to take the time and write this.
We knew that when we started the homebuying process it was going to be a bumpy road just because of everything that everyone has been telling us. Bot only has it been BUMPY. it's been DRAINING, A NIGHTMARE & HEARTBREAKING experience. To the point I no longer wish to buy a home. When we started this process was with Veteran's First we were clear that our lease was up May 31, 2019. Our loan officer Garrett guaranteed us that we will be closing May 24. We were approved for the closing date, the sellers moved out of the home, we packed our entire apartment (we have 2 kids. The oldest is a 4 yrs old girl & 8month old boy) and excitedly waited for may 24. We had submitted all the paperwork that was asked of us within minutes ot the request, the title was ordered. On May 20th our loan officer Garrett reached us and said that they need more information. We were annoyed but we didnt think anything of it and we complied. It wasn't until he kept on asking for more information that we hot the sinking feeling that something was wrong. WE asked him if at this point we were truly approved for the loan and he said NO. I was weak at the knees, I had a feeling that someone punched me in the gut and took all my breath. We were homeless. After everything was supposedly APPROVED now it wasnt. He promised that we would close may 31st That was a lie. Then it was June 3rd. I have not been able to show my emotions while I am.at home because I need to keep it together for my fiance and my kids but as I am writing this review my tears are coming down. Who would've thought that a 2 times war veteran from the Marine Corps would've had to go through this heartwrenching process. We were looking for an honest company that would show care, respect & and appreciation for our veterans. This company is NOT it. We would have to call the office in San Diego & we were able to find someone who cared. She informed us on May 29th that not 1 piece of documentation was uploaded in their system. NOT ONE! Everytime we called Garrett there was always a run around. At this point it is May 30th and we are homeless, we do not have family in Jacksonville FL because we moved from NY for a better future for our children. We are looking for hotel rooms right now...
"Bro, tell me of one business that gives their best offer right up front. If we did that we would not make a profit. You re a business owner. Do you strive to just break even? Do you give a discount to every client that walks in your door , or do you give it to the guy that asks for it?" From a Veteran's First Rep who offered 5%. I ended up with 4.000%.
I've gone thru three different lenders and still haven't gotten into a house yet. I've been dealing with them for the last 6-12 months.
Very little communication. And they dont tell about all the red tape until it's too late. Wasting even more time. Anything they are good for us maybe getting you credit up but it takes two of them to get that right. Dealing with these guy is a total waste of energy and time. I hope I dont hear from them again they're just waste your energy.
I received a call from a loan officer named Chris L. who told me I should shop around for rates and give them a try. He sent me his information. The Next day I sent him an email with a good faith estimate I received from a previous company and asked if he was able to offer a better rate. No response to my email, voicemail and he didn't pick up the calls. His receptionist said he was helping another person and that was 2 days ago. What a joke!!!!!
Will have give better rate but it took several intent to summit documentation.
Not very knowledgeable. You would think that for a mortgage company that specializes in VA Loans, they would know all the little details about VA Loans, but they don't. I am a current member of the Air Force National Guard and just returned from a 4 month deployment to Afghanistan. When I spoke to the Loan Officer in Michigan, he told me I'm not eligible for a VA Loan because I haven't finished my 6 year contract. I told him I was because I just did a deployment. He disagreed, so I decided not to use Veteran's First. The mortgage company I am going through and the VA disagree with this Loan Officer. They need more knowledgeable staff
Unfortunately their eagerness to set up a loan exceeded their competence & customer service.
In two days I was passed between three different agents who assured me they had my file then proceeded to ask me very basic questions I had already answered. After talking to the last agent he realized they didn t even offer the loan type I was interested in.
To top it all off, the hours I wasted on the phone wasn t enough... they continue to send me emails even though I ve opted out on their website several times. Save yourself a headache and use a professional lender instead.
Chase Johnson secured a great rate for my mortgage. Everyone at Veterans First was knowledgeable and, when needed, calls were returned promptly.
I worked with 2 people with 2 loans at Veteran s First, Alek Franks and Brandon Williams. Both were the most helpful people I have ever worked with. They were available 7 days a week if I needed them. On a couple occasions I actually called on a weekend day and they answered the phone. Extremely knowledgeable and had everything prepared as promised and always in the timeframe expected. They made buying a house very easy and explained everything about the process.
A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! Thanks Gentlemen.
George Buddy Whitehead
Great Experience! From the start to the finish, I've never had so much personalized care and follow up! Adam and the team at Veterans First are true professionals, and remember what customer service is all about. Answered all my questions, gave me the best rates possible and continuously followed up to let me know where we were at in the process. Would DEFINITELY do business with them again!!
I have to say this VA Refi wasnt easy due to issues on my side , but Lauren Phelps at Veterans First walked and talked me through the process with patience and professional guideance. I highly recommend Veterans First but more so Loan Officer Lauren Phelps .... Great job clearing my hurdles.
Was called this morning about my request for information on VA home loans. The call was earlier than I would have liked on a Saturday morning, but I was cordial enough through the initial line of questioning. Then, when I explained that I was interested in finding a lender for a single-close construction-to-permanent VA loan, 'Matt' insisted that there is no such loan in the 'VA suite' and that I was mistaken. He argued with me at length, until I had to firmly inform him that other lenders do offer the service, and I would be more willing to go to them. He insisted that he had never heard of it, and would be skeptical of such services. Which I find interesting considering the VA benefits guide explicitly lays out information about this type of loan.
I wouldn't have cared if I'd asked and was informed they didn't have that service. The frustrating part was when he insisted that the loan type didn't exist and that I wouldn't be able to find it.
They did not keep in touch with us or our realtor and weren t honest about the total cost of our loan and kept adding on last minute expenses. They were extremely slow processing our loan, making us get an extension since they took so long to get simple things done. Loan fell through due to their ridiculous policies after losing money to them
I purchased my home using this company the first go round. Looked into refinancing recently, I guess VF was alerted that another mortgage company pulled my credit. VF reaches out to me and I tell them hey I m refinancing the new company put an offer on the table and I love it. The rep says send it to me and I ll see if we can get you better. I send it over a couple days later he comes back with VF offer it s not as good as the new company but VF wants to keep my business. Chris Wooten was my rep. He was very unprofessional. He spoke badly about the new company and claimed they would just sell my loan to another company. After listening to him wanting to keep my business by bad mouthing another company, he was clearly not hearing what I was saying to him so I hung up the phone. I informed him via email so that it would be in writing that I was not going to move forward with VF in regards to refinancing my loan. He responded I wasn t going to waste time putting in the loan estimates. Best of luck. He made it so easy to choose the other company and to take my business elsewhere. I no longer wish to have any dealings with this company. Their rates are higher than most and they don t really care about the customer. Every negative review I have read about this company was proven to me in these past two weeks. Maybe this is how they train their employees, to be rude and inconsiderate to the customer. That one star should be negative stars. Just horrible
I would NOT recommend this company.
Very unaccomodating.
Has made my 1st time home experience a horror show.
So, they were great through the whole process and very responsive, however, two weeks after closing they sold the loan to another company. The dedication to Veterans that I felt at first was gone once they sold the loan. Avoid at all costs.
Their Rep was adament I fill out all the information as soon as possible. Once I did, I was ghosted. No more communication.
Everything was going along just fine until Veterans First could not beat a lower interest rate from another lender. At that point, my loan officers attitudes changed. He became emotional on the phone. Refused to concede defeat. And began to attack my character because I had the nerve to shop around for a better rate. In the end, my loan officer, Jordan, and his supervisor, Amir, intentionally dragged their feet on transferring my documents to the new lender. Bad experience
Very nice team, all way pleasant and pleasing very helpful with any questions I had to ask, really love working support team.
My experience with Veterans First was awesome . My loan Officer Alisha Pena made the experience as smooth as she possibly could. The entire process went great and I really appreciate the way she handled my process with perfection. The customer service was great each person that I had the opportunity to speak with was great. I will definitely be referring others to them to apply for mortgage. Thank you !!!!!
Big shout out to Veterans First! Catina helped me get a great loan well below my projected budget for my first home. I highly recommend veterans to give these guys a chance.
Terri Schuster, the loan officer was fantastic. She expedited the paperwork, communicated with me every step of the way and we ended up closing a week earlier than projected. If you need a VA home loan, call Veterans First Mortgage and ask for Terri Schuster. Easiest process I've ever been through for a loan and great interest rates.
They made me homeless
I was pre-approved quick and easily, found a home went through all the inspections and appraisals, I was told on Friday May 31 2019 that we were set to close on Friday June 7 2019 I was told by Tyler Gaisford that my loan had cleared underwriting with the condition that I walk away from my home that I was currently buying on contract. So knowing that this was the only condition that the underwriter needed I did so on June 1 2019 only to be called on Wednesday June 5 2019 to be told that I had lost funding from them, not really being told anything else and very confused by the situation I called another lender. The new lender requested some information from Veterans First on Monday June 10 2019, that is when they called me to say the underwriter now says that I need to wait 3 months to Close, this has put me homeless and they expect me to stay homeless for another 3 months, it put the sellers in a bad spot because they moved out and got an apartment after being told we were closing on the 7th. The only thing I can say is to record your phone calls with them as I have done. After speaking with a few attorneys and playing the recordings I have they informed me that what they did is a violation of law and they will be seeking some kind of settlement for far more than what I was going to borrow. I hate to do this but there was no remorse for making a person homeless from this company.
Edit Three months have gone by and I am still homeless and have yet to hear from them to see if they will honor their word.
Tried to use them and they were very unprofessional. They wouldn't return calls or tell me what I needed. I will use Veterans United instead.
Wonderful people who truly care about what they do !
This is the second time we have used them and it was even better than before.
Thank you,
Bart
I now receive about 5 spam phone calls and texts a day from various people claiming to be from this company, even though I have never heard of them before.
They purposely gave me run around after I was already approved and deadline ran out and then they said "as of may 1st we dont do modular homes" it was March and April when I was messaging Jon 16 times and called him 12 times with nothing except a text saying "in meeting call you later" liars and scams
Not happy with this company STAY AWAY FROM THEM AND USE A LOCAL LENDER!!!!!! LIES LIES LIES..... WISH I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN TO GO WITH A LOCAL LENDER! I was told I could make the first payment on Aug 1st only to be told 5 days before closing I couldn't. Also they will give you one heck of a run around on everything you do. I did finally get the home I wanted but it's going to cost me a boat load more than I was told. Zack jolly was my loan officer don't use him unless everyone else in the office is out. I will be getting a new lender very soon.
Couldn't be happier with Veterans First Mortgage and Ellen ONeil. She is very good at helping veterans obtain a home loan and went very smoothly. Less than 30 days!! Highly recommend.
Please Do Yourself a Favor and get a different Lender.
4 days before closing after having all info for two months they contact us and say sorry you don't qualify. We have confirmation and print out of qualifying from them. They are punishing my wife for being a stay at home mom and not having a job. Do not use them. Jan Davis with the company told my wife one excuse and me another. Now where am I going to live with my family since I had gave notice on apartment and they gave rented it out.
My husband worked with Stefon and he was always available to answer questions and help us through the process. We were very pleased with him!
Trying to use this company has been a huge mistake and nothing but a giant headache. Terrible communication, customer service, nothing but excuses, I have to call or email every few days to a week to make sure they are doing THEIR JOB and get updates, can't keep their word and own time schedules. Going to attempt to cancel loan process today.
the loan process went very well. did not have to leave my resident. everthing done by computer or phone ali was very help full from start to finish.
