Southtree Review

Dont use the Southtree service. They lost my wedding cassette tape married 32 years. I have the tracking number that states the tape was delivered to Southtree but they are saying it never arrived. It's so heartbreaking. DONT TRUST THEIR SERVICE.

I love it and will return to them when I need more media done... Thank you so much... it brings back so many lovely memories...

I placed two orders for Christmas delivery. Both orders were received timely; however, one of the DVD's did not work. I emailed customer service at 7pm and they responded promptly with a fed x label for return of the DVD and films. They made the turn around very quick to ensure I had the second order in time for Christmas. Honestly, have never had such great customer service. They were 16mm films that my Mother had and she was worried that we were sending them to someone we didn't know. I forwarded to her the emails that Southtree sends updating the status of your order. My Mother now trust Southtree. We three more orders in process at Southtree.

The service I received was prompt and completed as promised. The transformation of 8 mm film to DVD resulted in an excellent product that allows me to enjoy all the memories therein. One of the subject has died. It is quite eerie to see him in motion as opposed the seeing his image in a still photograph. I will cherish this DVD. Thank you, Southtree.

I sent 50 of my best slides to Southtree in October 2015, They came back overexposed 6 weeks later. I sent them back to be redone and was notified by FEDEX on January 5 that my shipment was damaged and Southtree told FEDEX to throw them away. A dozen emails and calls later Southtree has not responded to me or even offered a refund. Terrible Service - I have never had a company not respond. My images are a total loss.

I issue a warning to anyone who seeks to use this company for the scanning of old media (negatives, film, VHS, etc.). Although apparently a good company with good service in the past, the COVID-19 era has led to extremely slow service - with no updates or reasons for the delay. Months will go by with nothing happening. Then when they do start work on your project - they will reject it for arbitrary reasons. For me, they rejected it because they said the type of plastic bag used to enclose the negatives did not meet their standards. I, am a rule follower, and if they had told me what type of plastic bag they wanted me to put my negatives in, I would have simply complied - MONTHS AND MONTHS AGO. Then, bad customer service. They tell me I will be allowed a credit for future business with them. Then further bad customer service - a phone call to the company - they explain that they will mail back my entire order and then allow me to move the negatives from one plastic enclosure to the plastic enclosure they preferred, and that I can send everything back for them to process. I am assuming in six to nine months from now. I wonder though then if they would find some other arbitrary reason for rejecting doing the work and keeping the money I paid. It is possible my experience is a complete outlier. The other reviews on here seem very favorable. I am jealous of those people. Such a let down for such an important project. I just hope they have not damaged my personal property. And I really hope they will send me back all of my personal property. Just terrible.

Just received my first order from Southtree. Sadly, it will be the last. the quality of the product did not come close to meeting the hype mentioned on the website.

My order was small - the digital scanning of fifty 35mm color slide transparencies. I figured that if the order turned out well, i would send in about 250 more. The website indicated my order would be processed by a skilled "technician" who would carefully scan and optimize each slide. Apparently the term "technician" is used loosely at Southtree.

The quality of the scanning work was seriously substandard. Some of the images that were sharply focused on the slide were seriously blurred - some to the point of being worthless. In some instances, focus was inconsistent on the same slide. Other slides were scanned backwards-something that would be obvious to a "technician" who was actually checking his/her work as each image was scanned.

The most serious deficiency was dust contamination. The slides that were returned to me were obviously cleaned of dust at some point. So it is unclear to me why there were so many dust spots on the finished scan files. Either the slides were cleaned AFTER the scan, or the scanning equipment, itself was contaminated. Many scanner manufacturers offer software that will mitigate much of the problem with dust spots. Southtree apparently doesn't offer this.

Quality of Work - POOR
Speed - POOR (It took two months to process the order)
Communication - OKAY (emails were sent to advise processing steps)
Recommendation to others - Find another vendor!

As a Senior with many losses in my life I decided that all the tapes and film from my
childhood and that of my family should be made whole to adapt to new technology.
That is the only way to keep cherished memories alive. My daughter now is in charge of the DVD's and it is her responsibility to move them along with technology.

I found Southtree and got such a great deal and felt comfortable with sending my tapes to them. Their site spelled out all of the steps we would go through. I was thrilled with the results. Even the reels of my parents and their parents came out well. I am well satisfied with the process and outcome.

They did a great job on my conversion of Beta to DVD. They also add a bit of style to the packaging as well which makes a boring conversion into something nice to look at. The customer service even did a wonderful job helping in getting my package to the correct place after I entered a partial address. Keep up the great work Southtree. I would recommend these guys/gals to anyone looking to convert their old media into a more usable format.

Did a great job converting my old films to digital video. Easy to ship to them and did a great job keeping me informed of progress. Even returned them to me way ahead of schedule. Highly recommended.

I had over 30 years worth of DVD's and some of them were slowly fading away due to time. I sent them over 50 VHS tapes to be transferred onto DVD's. I was so pleased with their process. I was notified by email every step of the process. They notified me when my tapes were received. From there, I was emailed through every process so I would know where they were until there were ready to send them back. They let me know the day they sent them back so that I could track my package. I was so excited to see my box arrive on my front door. When I opened my box, there were all my VHS tapes along with my DVD's and those memories aren't lost forever! I would highly recommend Southtree for anyone looking to hang onto those old memories!!!

My family found some old Beta tapes that we wanted converted to DVD to preserve our memories of our lost loved ones. I did some research on the internet and trusted Southtree with my family's treasures. They wee so courteous by keeping me up to date on all the things happening with my tapes and when they were shipped back! I was very pleased with the final products and will surely use them again!!

After weeding down over 5000 photographs from relatives estates, I was able to send over 1500 photos to Southtree to have them digitized. The photos look good and are easy to gather into sub folders.

For many years I reviewed electronics to convert my cassettes (transferred from vinyl and reel-to-reel). Investing in a unit that required multiple steps or using a high-priced local business for the conversion wasn't feasible. I don't remember how I found Southtree on the internet, butI am so glad that I did. Using a service that is customer friendly and efficent and appreciate emails throughout the process. My gift to me!

I am pleased with their attention to a customer and I think the slide conversion is fine.The movies I have had converted to DVD are 40 years old so I suppose I should be thankful that I can see anything; On the other hand I have no one to compare with. For slides I have used photobin which receives bad reviews but I am in no hurry and I like receving a memory stick as well as a DVD and the quality of the digital image looks equivalent for PHOTO BIN and SOUTHTREE

I am extremely pleased with the work that Southtree did for me! I sent 6 reels of 8 mm film to them that was over 60 years old and they were able to save them to a DVD in perfect shape. I will be sending more to them in the future!

Such an easy and amazing experience! I was reluctant at first being that this company is in another state however I got updates throughout the process and so happy to finally enjoy my home videos with my family.

I had an old reel to reel audio tape with my brother and I saying our bedtime prayers as well as some music that my mom and dad had recorded of themselves. I was skeptical about sending in my irreplaceable tape, so I talked it over with my mom and we decided to try. I sent my tape in, and within a couple weeks, I had a wonderful CD that I can now listen to whenever I want. I am very pleased with the service I recieved from Southtree. I bought a groupon from Southtree to convert my VHS tapes and Hi8 tapes to DVD. I did this over the summer, got all 15 tapes converted and had 2 copies of each made. I think it took about 1 month. I had a problem with one set of DVDs, I had asked for 2 they only made one. I called customer service, they took care of the problem right away. I loved getting the emails on the progress of the conversion - when my tapes arrived, when they were converted, when they were shipped back to me. The quality is great. Thanks. I would use them again.

My father had a reel-to-reel tape and player up in his attic. While the reel-to-reel no longer worked, the tape was still in good condition and had recordings of my siblings in me from over 40 years ago. I started searching for companies to transfer the tape to CD and came across Southtree. They had good prices and good reviews, so I sent them the tape. While I was given an original projection of a few weeks, the entire process took less than two. I played the CD for my parents and the look of pure joy on their eyes was enough to realize I had made the right choice. Excellent job of preserving some great memories!

My tapes came back in a nice box - all their packaging is great. I waited two months more. Finally checked the website which said the thumb drive had shipped. Called and they said it was taped to the inside top of the box. I was sure I had recycled it, but the box that had held the tapes were ratty, so I used their box to store it and there the thumb drive was, in a little black envelope taped to the inside top of the box. SO... look for it, and Southtree: Do SOMETHING to indicate the drive is there: A RED envelope or an arrow or something.

Have had several VHS and mini VHS tapes converted. Great service and they keep you updated every step of the way. Also, the most economical I ve found either locally or online. Wish shipping price would vary depending on items being sent. Other than that, very satisfied!

Had some family video tapes that I had been meaning to get converted to DVD's. Found Southtree online and read great reviews. Prices were VERY reasonable (compared to other places I researched)
Tapes were converted rather quickly and just as I wanted!

I recently received my 3rd order from Southtree. My first order was the transfer of reel to reel audio to cd and I was pleased with the results. The second order was the transfer of 8mm video to dvd. Again, the results were satisfactory. My most recent order was a combination of 8mm video, prints, b&w negatives and 35mm slides. Again the 8mm video and prints were satisfactory. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the transfer of the 80-year old b&w negatives. However, the transfer of the 35mm slides was very poor quality. I would like to know if that is typical or if it was just poor workmanship on this particular order. I have another 1,000+ 35mm slides to transfer, but will not be having these preserved by Southtree.

Southtree is an amazing, reliable company. I've sent over 50 VHS-C tapes to them and all were received safely and returned safely with high quality DVDs. Awesome service and price They send emails all along the way to let you know what is happening. I used USPS, with signature and insurance added. I highly recommend Southtree.

I am now on my thrid set of products being sent to Southtree and have been impressed and excited about how they keep you informed every step of the way! Amazing , the product is great and knowing where they are on your order is the best!

Recently sent slide photos, that were dated as far back as the 1950 and even earlier as well as VHS tapes that I did not know what information they contained. Much to my surprise, one of the tapes was an old family "super 8" movie that had be spliced together and Southtree did an amazing job getting this movie in particular digitized. It turned out very nice. I also had voice tapes digitized and they too turned out excellent. Good Job Southtree. Thanks

Quite frankly this was not an inexpensive venture but being able to preserve my father's slides from my childhood was well worth the cost. They tell the story of my life and now that so many family members have passed this was a great way to see those photos anytime I want by just putting my thumb drive into my computer and going back in time. I also put all 500 images on Facebook for my family, who are in many of the photos, to see and they all loved seeing beloved family members again. It was so much fun for all of us. Even people not in the photos were thanking me for sharing them. My daughter gave me this for Christmas and it is one of the best gifts I ever got. I highly recommend doing it.

I was very happy with the results of copying my video tape to DVD. Since I couldn't watch the tapes before transfer, I didn't know what was on the tapes. Watching it with the family brought back a lot of memories. It was a great experience. Considering the tapes were over 20 years old they did a good job restoring them.

Their service is excellent.. kept us informed via email every step of the process. I especially like their feature of offering an extra DVD containing an .mp4 file that I can open in any video editor to edit my home movies.

I had converted my 8mm to video a few years ago but wasn't happy with the quality. So with Southtree I selected Digital Copy. It is worth the slight extra cost. The quality is wonderful! And I also got the flash drive with the movies on it, which is so helpful to share with my friends. The conversion process took a while, but Southtree sent status emails along the way, so I was never worried. Just make sure you give yourself several weeks if you're doing this for a gift. I highly recommend them!

The process of shipping the tapes was easy. The product that we got back was just okay. The DVD's were just in paper sleeves. According to an email, one of my tapes I sent was poor quality, but they never indicated which one. So, it could have been any of them, and they all didn't seem very good quality. I guess you get what you pay for. Cheap price, so cheap quality.

Southtree's services are amazing! Very professional, timely and the results were better than the originals from which they processed the videos to MP3 and DVD's. I will definitely use their services again.

I sent off film reels dating all the way back to the 1950's and just got the discs back in the mail today. It. is. amazing! The quality is superb (for what the reels are) and it was beyond easy to organize the reels and send them off. They came back in a timely manner and after watching about 10 minutes, I ordered again to have the rest of my film reels done. I was that excited! Literally have been wanting to get this done for 10 years. The other sites I looked at, charged by the foot and it was confusing and pricey! I highly, highly recommend Southtree. I couldn't be happier!

I am so excited to have my old tapes on DVD's and a flash drive. It was wonderful watching my children when they were younger all over again. My children and my extended family have really enjoyed them as well. The new DVD's have brought back so many wonderful memories. I have more tapes to send in, I will be sending them very soon in the near future. The Southtree company is a great company to trust with your very special memories.

Although turn around time is long, Southtree is very clear about why. They are very careful and it all is done by hand. The submission and return of your items is very good and being able to see the home movies finally on a computer ( I chose a flash drive) is an absolute joy and worth the wait the the expense. The company also offers good discounts around holiday season!

A great place to get all of your photography, videos, film, slides etc converted to whatever you would like. If you shop right you can get really good deals on these conversions. They do it very fast also.

We had some 60 year old film converted to digital. Despite the poor condition of the film enough was saved to make us laugh and cry. Worth every penny!

This company does it all, vhs, audio, slides and more if you have it. I boxed up all my treasures and shipped them off and within 1 month, I had digital copies of everything, as well as the originals. Prompt and courteous service. Well worth the expense.

Do not use this scam company!!!!!!! I sent them 300 negatives in various formats. I prepaid almost $70.00. I received my negatives back with 30 pictures on a flash drive. I emailed the company, they said they did not do those formats- however, I felt like their advertising led one to believe that they could convert any format of negatives, audio or pictures. I got a whole $23.00 refund- so I basically paid $35.00 for 30 pictures on a flash drive:(

The quality of the scans are good, but I have my negatives sorted by when they were taken, and even though they reassured me several times that they would return the scans similarly sorted, the disk came back with all the scans in one big folder. I am now having to spend hours sorting the scans, squinting at the negatives to figure out which scan goes with which negative. I have complained about this and they have told me to (in effect) go away and leave them alone.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY WHO DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOU. THEY RUINED THE ORDER OF 1500 PHOTOS OF MINE SPANNING 50 YEARS . WHEN CALLED TO COMPLAIN AND TALK TO OWNER ABOUT REFUND OR RESOLUTION I HAVE BEEN IGNORED FOR MANY MONTHS...CONTACTED BBB...

Southtree is one of the best places I have found to send my old camcorder tapes, VHS, and movies. I sent 8 camcorder tapes to them last year and received the best memories back that I could have ever asked for! I just recently sent my parents 50th Anniversary tape and a movie reel, both for my parents. I can't wait to receive the finished products! THANK YOU!!

I sent in a VHS. It took about 6 weeks to get my DVD and digital disc back, but that was fine with me. They notified me ever step of the way where I was in the production queue, which I truly appreciated. My DVD's came in the mail in about 6 weeks, and I am very happy with the entire process and the finished product. The only thing I would have liked to have had was a packing slip/receipt and maybe a short instructional on how to download the digital copy into my computer, as I am computer illiterate. My neighbor came over and did it for me in 10 seconds so all is well. I will definitely use their service again, and I recommend it to anyone.

Sent in 6 old DVD tapes. It didn't take too long before I had a whole batch of family memories to play on my computer or TV. The quality was excellent and the service was great!

They were attentive and professional with my many different video tapes.
Now that I have them digitized I know they are preserved forever.

This company is seriously THE BEST -- not only do they do extraordinary work, but they realize that we get a little obsessive about our precious memories, and they keep in constant contact -- let you know when your package arrives, when they begin digitizing, when it has been shipped. If you have ANY questions/doubts, log onto their site and do a live chat with a rep -- not only are they the FASTEST to respond (don't you hate when you have to "wait to be connected to an agent?) but they're human, and knowledgable and just VERY nice! I am one of the most obsessed people I know with my photos, and I have trusted them with all sorts of media -- VHS-DVD, my dad's slides which are close to 70 years old, and some really precious old photos. Can't say ANYTHING but A+++ for Southtree

So far.... ordered a box on April 21 which arrived over 2 weeks later after I called multiple times to track its progress. Sent things back immediately and it was received May 11. Its now June 24 and still it hasn't moved at Southtree's facility. Called yesterday for status and got nowhere other than an assurance from a manager that it has been expedited and should be done in 2 weeks.... that would make the entire process 11 weeks from start to finish, 9 of them in their facility even though their policy is 4-6 weeks according to what I was able to dig up on their site. I hope they get it together and return my stuff but right now I have little hope that they will come thru.

UPDATE:: 2 weeks later and NOTHING NEW.. No news, no pics, no status updates... nothing! It's now been 13 weeks since 1st order and no sign of my movies being converted... only false promises by Southtree that I would have an expedited service after my last complaint. SORRY customer service and empty promises is all I've seen of this outfit since April. I just want my original films back and a refund of my $130.... time to call the BBB.

I received an offer from Southtree and it was just the reminder that I needed to get started on digitizing my old home videos. They made the entire process very easy and they were very friendly and responsive in all of their communications. I have no hesitation recommending them. I will certainly be using them again to help with my old photos next. BTW, my entire family LOVED watching the old videos over the holidays. You have to do it.

They did a great job. I had 43 tapes of my kids plays, soccer games, Christmas...all the stuff of them growing up. I have proofed a few discs but it is hard to see them behind watery eyes. It took longer than I hoped, but not longer than they said. I guess I wanted then sooner than realistic. However they sent regular emails on their progress and I always felt confident my family's memories would be safe.

I sent 19 tapes to be converted to DVD, and the entire experience was great. I especially liked that they kept me up to date every step of the way, from receipt of my tapes to production to shipping back to me.

I recently had 10 home movies transferred to disk & they did a great job.It did take a while (2 months) but they sent me regular updates by email, letting me know at each step how it was progressing. They made the whole process very easy. Plus - they were much cheaper than any other place I've found! I'm getting ready to send them my next shipment.I am a very satisfied customer.

The process was quick and easy & the pricing was fair, but I just received my videos and they all came back with an extra hour or more of blank air time! This means the file sizes are HUGE and now I have to go in and edit them/cut them down to be able to upload them anywhere. Pretty disappointed by this.

Southtree did a great job of converting all of my 8mm movie reels into DVDs. I was a bit apprehensive about sending the reels, but Southtree eased my mind every step of the way. I've enjoyed watching the DVDs from my childhood and seeing my relatives both living and deceased. Southtree's service was fast and professional. I would highly recommend them.

Their shipping charges cost more than it does for the actual product. Come On! $12.95 transfer and 15,95 for shipping. AND what makes it even worse is that shipping is media mail which is dramatically cheaper than regular mail. They are just a fancy website gauging their customers that anywhere else is free shipping. Will not be giving you my business, I hope this helps others when they slip in the quietly but definitely recognized as greed.

The quality was sub-par and the time it took was beyond acceptable. I recommend looking at a different source for your cherished home videos.

Recently sent some VHS tapes to be converted to Disk. Process was smooth, Southtree representatives keep you updated with the progress by email and on their website. Quality of the disk is fantastic. Gave them to my wife as a Christmas present and was overjoyed. A must if you want to save those special memories!

The quality of the DVD transfer was nothing to write home about. The cost was ridiculously high - even with a Groupon - which I feel was misleading. Had I not felt that Groupon was giving me a good deal, AND if I had a bit more patience, I could have had it done locally for much, much less money and received the same, if not better results. Go elsewhere and save yourself a LOT of money!

I sent Southtree about 1000 negatives of photos that were taken in the 1980's and 1990's.
They did a fantastic job, I have most of the paper photos from that batch, and the negatives into digital are soooo much cleaner and clearer!
Loved the transfer, and loved the service they provide along the way. I plan to use them again as soon as I find other negatives.

I am so happy with the DVD's and CD's Southtree did for me. I had 10 VHS Tapes full of memories that I did not want to lose over the years. I packaged them up, sent them to Southtree and received completed ones within 5 weeks.

They kept me informed along the way so that I knew my valuable memories were safely in their hands.

When I received them, it was so exciting to go down memory lane. The completed products were perfectly copied over for me.

Inherited a whole slew of old photos, negatives and even slides from a family member that were neglected for longer than I have been alive. I sent a mixed box to Southtree (sorry about that!) and they preformed magic. Even better the actual people took the time to bag and package the materials to return to me showing their dedication. Online tracking and updates also a great feature. Plan on using them again

I carefully searched for the right place to switch all tapes, VCR, Beta, VHS and some smaller ones to digital. I was hesitant as they had to be mailed and we all know things can and do go wrong. The folks were very nice when I called to ask some details. So-- I packaged a lifetimes worth of movies in several boxes, and sent them off. I was so pleased I was able to track my items from that point on. In the mail, arrival, hold, thru various departments for processing, handling, and finally back to me! I love my digital copies! Everything went perfect----and my originals were also returned in the same condition as when they were sent off. Watch for coupons for your best deals!

Horrible company they are liars. Stole my money and told me something different from what was the paper. Never use this company nor work for them.

Customer service was really helpful clarifying a misunderstanding of how many pictures I had paid for. Scans were processed quickly.

Saw a special on Facebook for this company. Followed the simple directions and promptly received all of my video tapes transfered to DVD. Quality is excellent and the process is SO easy. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I sent them my family photo/videos in early december, and got confirmation from USPS that they were delivered to Southtree. Southtree said they never got them, blamed USPS, and was not helpful in tracking them down. Be careful trusting them with photos/videos you care about unless you have backups.

I can't say enough great things about my experience with Southtree. I WILL use them the next time I have a need. I had 3 very old video tapes made into DVDs with copies for my family. They came out better than I expected. The service was fast and they kept me informed throughout. I have never had a company have such good service. Wonderful!

I recently used Southtree to convert movies from the 1920's & 1930's to DVD. I can't say enough about how excellent they were. I had looked into converting these movies for awhile, but the price at so many places was unbelievably high. Since I didn't even know what was on them, I wasn't going to spend a lot of money. I got a coupon for Southtree and it was a very good deal, so I decided to use them. What a great decision. The whole process was very streamlined and I was notified via email every step of the way. It took about 6 weeks from start to finish.

There was a problem with one of the conversions and I called to discuss it. This is where they really shined. Not only did I talk to a person, he was gracious and very helpful. He got a free mailing label sent to me and told me to return the film reel that was a problem and that they would correct it. I can't remember the last time that I had such awesome customer service. Mistakes can be made, but the resolution of mistakes is the true sign of a good company.
