I only heard great words of this shelter and I found a great fit for our family we named her Arwen. We unfortunately didn't know that Arwen was severely sick when we adopted her. It only took less then 24 hours to realize something wasn't right. The day after the adoption I reached out to the shelter for help and we were informed there was no vet on sight on that Monday so we needed to find a veterinarian on our own, so we did. I sent all the paperwork to the vet that I had received from the shelter and they recommended I reach back to the shelter due to we having 2 weeks for help with our adoption. When I pleaded for help to the shelter because our Arwen was not eating and very lethargic. Their response was they do not offer veterinarian help after adoption so go back to the vet that you have seen, sounds like she needs help immediately. Left us with no choice. Almost $1000 later Arwen is still apart of of family thanks to our veterinarian. No thanks to Rocky Mountain Feline rescue. I do believe that this shelter has great qualities, but in the event that you do rescue a beautiful kitten from this establishment just be aware, if you do adopt a sick kitten you will be responsible for all cost. No help will be given.
Got my beautiful Memow from there she is an absolute sweetheart and the staff was nice. 5 stars! hoping to foster soon but I would like to foster adult cats that are ready for adoption and no medical issues, or a kitten that is not to young but just needs to soon
My hubby and I adopted our furry baby from RMFR over five years ago, and even though we live in Loveland, we still make time to come visit whenever we can. Over 100 kitties roam free in this place, and we always stay for a few hours socializing them and getting a soul refresher. This facility is well-managed, clean, and fun for the kitties, and you can tell the staff are really passionate about what they do. Many things in the shelter are done through volunteer work, and being a volunteer is a BLAST! The facility has a large backyard for the cats to romp in, and there is a separate area for shy cats that are having a hard time adjusting to shelter life, as well as a special place, John's Room, for kitties with illnesses like FIV, and both of these have a separate outside area, too. I cannot say enough about all the good this place does - thank you for being a wonderful cat haven that makes a difference in hundreds of lives every year!
RINGWORM! The facility is clean, the front staff is very kind and helpful, and we love our kitty! But, last month, RMFR adopted to us a cat that has ringworm. His medical charts show he tested positive 3 weeks before he was released to us. Five days after we adopted him our vet identified a lesion on the cat and explained to us what the paperwork showed. We contacted RMFR immediately for help. They provided him topical treatment, but even though it was apparent this wasn't enough they wouldn't provide oral meds or regular lyme dips. The director began to deny that our cat had ringworm when they released him, which was patently untrue. All we wanted was help correcting their error, which we ultimately didn't receive. My children and I broke out with multiple lesions, one child is losing hair in a couple of patches, and over a month later we are still treating the cat and ourselves and constantly sanitizing the house. It was probably an honest mistake but the director treated us with complete lack of human empathy. I strongly recommend avoiding this shelter.
Was super excited to adopt a kitten and give it a forever home. Waited 2 hours just to be denied because we let our other cat out on our patio. If it's a big deal or a policy why ask the question if you let your cat outdoors if you arent gonna let someone adopt a cat who does. Extremely disappointed. And the lady who told us we couldn't proceed with the adoption had absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. Blonde lady with short hair had a very nasty attitude and didnt even seem to really care about the cats like the volunteers did. I even over heard other customers talk about how nasty she was. I understand we couldn't adopt the kitten but she could have been alot nicer about it, I'm not a bad pet owner and i didn't deserve to be treated like I was one.
This is the coolest cat rescue! The cats have access to the outside, which is totally safe. There is no way for them to get out! The outdoor area is large. The kitties have a variety of toys and real trees to climb! I was volunteering along with my son and his girlfriend. We spent over an hour there just hanging out with all the kitties. One weekend when volunteering, my son and his girlfriend adopted a beautiful cat. This is my grandkitty, Izzy!(Tiger Houston) Please volunteer if you are in the area. They are only open certain days and hours. Check out their website.
I know they have cats running all over the place but damn do some sprucing up or something. Hire a marketer to solicit more donations and then upgrade that place. C'mon people! It looks like a hoarder lived there, died, left all the cats. and you guys were like "Hey, let's turn this in to a business!". Other than that, the staff is friendly and they do great work in the community. Thanks!
My wife and I were here for the Xcel Energy Day of Service event to volunteer at the rescue. Wow, what an operation! It is amazing what the team of dedicated volunteers and employees at the center can accomplish on a shoestring. Dozens and dozens (maybe over 100) of cats an kittens all taken in and cared for in excellent conditions. They are just the most caring and friendly people I've ever had the honor of volunteering with!
If you are ever looking to adopt a kitten or cat, make sure you visit the Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue first.
This is a wonderful organization that is so kind and caring. They are wonderfully clean and everyone is just so nice! They respond to emails quickly and are very helpful!
We volunteer here. The cats are happy, well fed, well groomed, and healthy; they look good. They have a special TLC room for shy cats, and another for FIV/FELV. They keep the cats in the intake cages until they are ready for general population; and sick kitties are isolated until healthy. In general poulation, they are free to roam, and can go outside during daylight (and good weather) in the (very protected) yard. TLC and FIV/FELV both have secure outside areas as well. This is a great facility, great staff, with great cats. We have adopted 2 from here, so we've eaten the dog...er, cat food, and are very satisfied.
Awesome place to find a new member of the family to love. Ths adoption process was very easy and the staff is really helpful and supportive and they send you home with lots of helpful information too. We got our little kitty Layla there and she is such a cute and curious girl. Thinking of getting her a playmate soon!
They need to have clear policies on their site. They say the cats are indoor/outdoor cats but then would not allow us to adopt a cat as we planned to let it be an indoor/outdoor cat.
If I could give a negative rating, I would. We went in to look at two kittens that were up for adoption in Petsmart on S Colorado Blvd after calling multiple locations for the past few weeks. The girl that showed us the cats, so believe her name is Jazz, first walked in asked if we were really interested in adoptions because if not, she didn t want to waste her time showing the kittens. She showed us the kittens and we asked if we were able to take them home today. She stated it is a 24 hour process and we had to fill out an application. After that she mentioned to us they had been spayed and we asked if they had been declawed. We DID NOT know that in Colorado it is illegal as we just moved from Florida. Then we were given an application and the girl left and little did we know, she then went behind our back and called Carie at the shelter to tell her we had asked about declawing. Then a man came and said Jazz told him we had questions about declawing. We told him we did not ask about how to do it, we asked simply if they had been. He then told us, our application was denied with Carie even before we filled it out because we asked that question. How do we get denied for asking a question?! Maybe I asked because I don t want a declawed cat because I think it s mean. I ve grown up with cats for over 10 years and had five to six at a time and they ve all lived indoors and never have been declawed but because we are from Florida it is the same question we would ask anywhere as to if they had been spayed or neutered. NO ONE said we were planning to do that. Before you give the wrong information, make sure you understand the reasons behind our questions. Maybe your employees need more teaching before calling behind your customers backs to do something so disrespectful and rude. After speaking with Carrie again to explain the reasoning behind my questions, she said i could submit my application and she would speak with me after that. Now, why would I even want to deal with a company and shelter that is beyond biased because we aren t a native to Colorado and simply cannot even ask a question? Beyond Rude. Beyond Disrespectful. Beyond Terrible Customer Service.
On 9/13/14 I went into Rocky mountain Feline and adopted a kitten. They said I have to fill out a adoption form and give them a check for $95. I did that. Carrie said I can't take the cat with me because it has to be fixed. So she said approximately 2 weeks she'll be ready. I called to check on the kitten and they said she will an adopted family for the time being. Carrie called me on 9/28/14 and said the kitten is ready for tomorrow. So I called to ask questions on the morning of 9/29/14 and carrie said she would be ready at 1-4pm. Carrie called back and said that Kat had accidently gave it out for adoption and will get the cat back for me. She called back an hour later and said I can't get the cat back and there's nothing they will do about it. So They now have my money, adoption paper work I signed and I have no cat. I would never work with someone you can't trust. You too could think your getting a cat and they give it to someone else. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
Rude staff. I found a cat and wanted to make sure he was going to be okay and no killed like normal shelters. I called Carrie and the number provided when calling the shelter. She made me an appointment at the shelter. I drove 45 minutes to get there and when I got there I walked in with the cat, nobody welcomed me or even smiled. I told one of the girls I had an appointment at 1pm and the girl very rudely asked for what and I told her what happened and she said well she was incorrect we aren't taking cats at this moment. Didn't tell me when they would be taking cats in. Just looked me up and down the entire time.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY A KITTEN FROM HERE! I bought my first kitten ever from here and within two weeks she was sneezing uncontrollably just to find that she had an upper respiratory infection. We took her to the vet and got antibiotics! A month later she got even more sick, we took her again to the vet who did blood samples and several other tests to find that she had an abundant amount of health problems! SHE WAS ONLY 5 MONTHS OLD AT THIS POINT! We continuously were taking her to the vet and after two months of nonstop appointments my kitty was not getting any better. Finally my vet suggested that we put her down due to the amount of health conditions she was facing at such a young age. I had called the director of the facility and she had nothing to say to help. She suggested that I was a bad pet owner if this all was occurring! We put her down exactly three months after adopting her! And my family and I are left traumatized from what should ve been a happy experience. Save yourself the money and stress, do not go to this place!
After being away for a few years I recently went back to volunteering at RMFS. The shelter has rally changed for the better. New leadership, very organized. It is free roam but those cats that have to be in cages for a little while have it good. Big, clean cages with "amenities". They seem to have thought of everything.
Such wonderful staff, it's such an awesome place to be. It's truly amazing to just see all the cats doing their thing, theres so many and they're all so cute.
Cats and kittens have free range in most of the rooms and you can interact a lot with the cat in with you're interested. The staff members were kind and welcoming. I bought a tee shirt to support them and it's one of my faves since it's buttery soft.
Got my lovely lady there over a year ago Ann s have never been happier. This place was suggested by a friend and I spent hours there trying to figure out the kitty I wanted. They let me adopt as they were closing since I adopted an adult black cat, and got to take her home with me the same day. Not only that, but they set you up nicely with a free vet visit to any of their sponsored veterinarians and some food and toys!!
The interview process was grueling. It's more of an interrogation! We have years of kitten & cat experience, but these people will stare you down & make you 2nd guess yourself. After spending 4 hours (I'm NOT kidding!) here, going back & forth with what cat THEY felt we should have, we left empty handed. (WARNING: If you tell them you have a grown cat at home, they won't let you take just one kitten. They'll insist you take 2!) Ridiculous!!!
We loved that it is a free range shelter and a no kill shelter. Even though it smells, just because it is free range, it doesn't smell to bad. We also loved how nice and understanding the ladies at the front desk are. One of the best things though about this shelter is that they don't allow you to de-claw the cats or kittens. When we adopted Velma, a little black kitten, we had been there earlier that week and they had no kittens. Then they told us that we could come back today and then we found Velma. I would totally recommend this shelter to others.
The cats are well cared for and the adoption process was easy. We LOVE our new kitten (we named her Ophelia) and her last 2 booster shots are free in addition to the fact that they spayed her before we took her home. We also got a sweet care package!
I have seldom found a shelter that takes the care of the animals in their charge so thoughtfully. The cats are genuinely happy and the adoption process is taken very seriously. This shelter wants the best for their animals. I'm so happy with my "twins" and I will continue to recommend RMFR to my friends and family.
This place is great! Most of the population is free to roam around. There were so many sweet kitties we had a hard time choosing one. The application was thorough, but the staff were really kind and understanding. The adoption fees are very reasonable. My new kitty is settling in really quickly.
Every shelter has it's positive and negative reviews but after getting to know the lovely felines as well as staff here, I can truly say it's all done with love. They take in cats from all over doing all they can in order to save as many lives as possible which I personally think is amazing. I make a living from animal care myself, so I'm always impressed at the additons they do here. I also saw a few comments regarding sick animals and was considering adopting a animal from this shelter myself, so I also took that into consideration. However, when you are adopting a animal from a shelter it's important to keep in mind that no matter which one it is, sometimes unfortunate situations do happen. Please get your fur babies a checkup before they go home and keep a eye on them especially within the first few weeks! I'm sure the staff would be more than willing to address any concerns, I've even called them just for general questions about my animals and they have always been very kind. There are so many wonderful cats in and out that it's hard to find my favorite and anyone looking for a loving friend I would definitely recommend going here(:
Family and I played with kitties for hours. It was awesome. Sad I couldn't take some out of their cage because they were sick but I had fun playing with them outside in the yard
If I could I would give negative Stars! Yesterday I went to my local PetSmart in Aurora. I saw a nine week old kitten name Sawyer up for adoption. I immediately filled out my application on her, and turned it into the staff at PetSmart. I was told that because of my age (18), that I'd have to bring in a 21 year old the next day and have them help me fill out even more paperwork and that they'd have to fax over my application. Excited, I went home fell asleep and woke up the next day and called the PetSmart and they told me that they had no holding process for the kitten but I was the only applicant that put an application down on her. I went in and talked to another staff member who i gave proof of my landlord accepting that getting this kitten was alright along with brought in a household member over the age of 21 and the staffmember said that they had just faxed over my paperwork and that I'd have to wait for a phone call from the PetSmart so I waited keep in mind I went in at 1 p.m. and I waited until about 5:10 p.m. and still no call so I decided to call into my local PetSmart. When I called in a manager I believe named Charles answered the phone and told me that my papers faxed over and he would get in contact with Rocky Mountain feline rescue and that he would call me back when he got in contact. I waited another hour and finally got a call from Carrie, she was very rude and very disrespectful throughout the whole phone call. She told me that she did not like the fact that I was 18 years old and assumed I had a whole life ahead of me I would not have the time to take care of a cat, she accused me of being immature, keep in mind I have owned 2 rabbits for 4 years and a ferret for a year now. I also have graduated well over a year ago and have gone to college. I stated and i quote on my application that "if I got a declawed cat I would be fine with it but personally I would not declawed cat myself." Then she proceeded to twist my words around and accuse me of wanting to declaw the cat if i got it (being from Michigan also didnt know it was illegal). Then proceeded to be rude and disrespectful before telling me I was declined on my application and hung up on me.
I have grown up around many cats my whole life and not once have I had one declawed. I know how to raise an animal due to the fact that I have owned animals practically my whole life. I felt that the service was very rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I will never adopt an animal from here again. I suggest you not waste your time attempting to adopt from this service.
Rocky mountain feline rescue is clean, they quickly clean up and sample any messes as appropriate. They have lots of kittens and in general a very young population of adult cats, too. Having adopted there before, I know that their foster homes are amazing and do a great job socializing kittens and cats. That said, if you want a cat with some residual reservations about humans (if you want to continue the socialization process), they can help you find a kitty that needs just what you have to offer! Both volunteers and staff seem to have personal knowledge of individual cats, their behaviors, what they do and don't like and even what other cats they do or don't like. They seem to do a great job of saving kittens and cats, many of which might otherwise have had a very sad outcome in other states. I met so many great cats (and people) there! In addition, this is a shelter where, if you're able to make up your mind and if you came prepared, you may be able to leave the same day with a new family member! Of course in some circumstances you may have to wait a day or so, like if the kitty needs to be spayed/neutered or if they are unable to reach your veterinarian reference.
I spent some volunteering at RMFR. The facilities are well kept! The cats have plenty of blankets, beds, and toys. They are also some of the sweetest kitties I have ever met. Consider volunteering or adopting if you are able!
I went in to drop off donations. 3 huge bags of towels and 2 nearly brand new cat kennels and 2 separate employees looked at me and ignored me. No thank you or simple acknowledgement. Super disappointing, it s sad to see a rescue not thankful for completely usable and free donations.
I adopted a kitten here, I was so happy and so excited to give him a forever home. When I adopted him, they didn't go over any medical history regarding my kitten, Binx. The woman just told me to feed him extra cause he wasn't eating much. they told me kittens can just be picky eaters and to try different foods, so I thought it was nothing alarming.
Two days later, I'm having to syringe force feed this tiny baby. Four days after adopting him I had to euthanize him because he basically starved to death. Looking at the paperwork that came with him, they noted the weekly weight loss (NOT NORMAL for a kitten), They literally adopted a starving cat out. Two days after adopting him, after his wellness check, I called the shelter to let them know he still wasn't eating and asked for help, they just told me just to bring him back to be adopted by someone else, and then decided to tell me that a kitten in his litter was euthanized for something wrong with his litter. That would have been good to know.
The last four days were the worst days of my life. If they had gone over his medical history with me and told me he was literally not eating AT ALL, has calicivirus, and a kitten in his liter was euthanized, I would have taken him to the emergency clinic immediately. They also adopted him out with a calicivirus ulcer in his throat (which if I had other cats at home, they would have been affected), I was made aware of this two days after the adoption when I called prodding for more medical history. Now I'm stuck with a vet bill over $1000, after adopting him four days ago. Rest in peace my sweet baby Binx.
The people at RMFR are awesome! I adopted my kitty from them and they were so helpful and clearly love all of the cats in their care. Opt to adopt today!
My girlfriend and I had filled out an application for a Houston flood rescue kitten at a local pet store. We were told by the pet store that there would be a 48 hour hold while our application was either approved or denied. Upon speaking with the staff at RMFR, my girlfriend was treated as if she were an imbecile who knew nothing of cat care while simply trying to acquiesce their policies on adoption. We wanted to make sure our kitten would be a match for said kitten at the pet store, all to no avail. We also wanted to see if the brother/sister cat duo needed to be adopted together. I am not one to split up sibling or bonded animals for selfish reasons. We ended up going in this evening to pick up the kitten, as we both had worked earlier in the day and were unable to come in any sooner, and were accused of not wanting the cat because we didn't come in ASAP. We were told our application was "ripped up" and "destroyed." I am so upset by this! I have had both cats and dogs growing up and have been a vegan and animal lover my entire life! I have never received such disrespect when it came to customer service or pet care. The worst part is the animals suffer due to poor management and unhealthy communication. I have faith most employees at RMFR are wonderful, but Carrie was atrocious and wasn't the least bit helpful in wanting to to make sure the adoption was a healthy or successful one for all parties involved. Very, very unfortunate. I sure hope they can find someone else to work adoption cases in the future, because this was not handled in a healthy or loving manner. Her reputation certainly proceeds her in the pet care world.
This is a great facility! The staff are very helpful and caring. The majority of the cats are free roaming which is great, they arent locked in a kennel all day every day. The facility works closely with a great doctor and other facilities to ensure that their kitties get the best care. This is a great place to find your forever friend!
If you love cats, please come here to adopt!!!! They are such an incredible organization and have a no cage/no kill policy. Cats are roaming freely and you can see how they interact in a really natural way.
This place is a cat paradise. They allow the cats to roam more than staying in cages. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and great at making suggestions on cats that will suit your family. Only wish there was a private bonding room to take the cat you hope to adopt to have a little more one-on-one time before making a decision. There was also some confusion on my cat/kittens age. His collar said 5 months but papers said 3mo and 4 weeks so I paid the kitten fee. But what's $25 dollars when it's going to a rescue facility?
Had a great visit with all that cats. Staff was friendly and polite, and very informative. We fell in love with Jordan And Felicity. And now they are in their forever home.Thank you. You rock.
Adoption agent, Carry, was extremely rude and discriminatory towards my younger sister. She prevented her from getting a cat because she was ''too young' even though I would co sponsor the adoption. She also accused her of wanting to get a cat declawed when she has cats that are not.
While the cats seemed reasonably healthy and happy. But this place had hygiene issues when my daughter and I went here. At least when compared with the other shelters we visited that day.
This is a smaller cat rescue but they have a lot of cats to adopt. They have the small kittens in their own room right as you enter. I guess they want to get rid of them the fastest. The adoption fees are not too high. They have so many older cats. They have a special room for the shy cats to get to have a calm place to live. They seem happy basking in the sun in the room. It looks like there is a lot volunteers that play with the cats. They do one good thing. They put special bandanas on the cats who get over stimulated easily and may bite if approached. That's a nice thing to know if kids are taken in the rescue. It seems like a great place to adopt. I only volunteered. Did not adopt.
The most awesome thing about this shelter is that the cats are free roaming around the various rooms, allowing potential adopters to interact with many cats easily. The staff is also friendly and helpful (and really hardworking!).
I want to give a shout out to Alex, the short haired girl at the front desk. She is very understanding and has lots of compassion for each person that walks through the door. I am truly appreciative of her support and care for not only the cats, but potential owners as well.
However, the 3 stars is for the utter disrespect we received from the boss lady. We relinquished one kitten not too long ago because him and our first adopted kitten were not a good mix. It was not good for that poor kitten and I feel better letting him be happy and healthy in another home more suitable for him. Whoever the boss lady is, she needs to learn some social skills on how to talk to people. She was very rude, made horrendous assumptions about us, we felt attacked by her patronizing tone. It was a very difficult decision that we made to relinquish him, and we already felt horrible about it. I hope they read this review and think about how they treat people and potential owners. I hope you take some pointers from Alex and learn a thing or two.
Can't say enough good things about this place. Cats are happy, staff is dedicated, and the facilities are great. This place is virtually cage-free and the adoption fees are low or waived entirely in some cases.
It was so wonderful there and awesome experience we left with two three month old black kittens we name them Tic and Tac and the staff was so professional and sweet and caring and shared in or excitement we have already recommended other people to go there thank you so much for Rocky Mountain feline rescue thank you thank you thank you
I appreciate that my new cat was fostered (off-site) with tender loving care. One of the receptionists appeared to be on something and was scaring my kids. Never again with this place.
This is a top quality facility that truly cares about cats and cat rescue. Friendly and helpful staff. They have a wide network of caring people to help with the process. Most importantly, they work hard to see the abused and abandoned feline friends get the home they deserve. Keep up the good work!! I recommend people donating to such a worthy cause. I know I will.
We got our wonderful kitty Ruba here! I just love how careful they are about who they adopt to and how much they take good care of their kitties. They are wonderful organization and I hope they re here for years to come! Thank you for everything you do!!
I went in just to look and I found the perfect cat. She just purred and purred, I had to go back and get her. I feel like she was from a breeder and had a few flaws. everyone in there had cat sweaters on and kept wanting me to get 2. i brought my friend in with me the next time and she ended up getting one also, so WE DID END UP WITH 2.:)
Best shelter I've ever been to! People were kind and attentive, calmly explaining every question we had. Helped us find the perfect kittens (pictured) and set us up with all kinds of toys, food, and a paid vet visit! Kittens already had their shots and spaying, so no worries about sick kittens or more babies. If my friend asks, this is the place I recommend.
I adopted my kitty from here, and she was so sweet. Unfortunately, I was put in a situation where she required medical care that was going to require surgery and no vet with a payment plan would see me for days. I was concerned about the possibility of my cat dying in that time so I decided to turn her in to this shelter so that she wouldn't be going into a situation that would likely kill her. This was devastating for me, but the staff did not help this situation in the slightest. Firstly, when I called to inquire about surrendering my cat, the woman who I spoke to was immediately hostile. She accused me of foisting my responsibility off on others and being ill-prepared for a pet cause I didn't have $2,000 just on hand for emergency surgery. She also started hounding me about which vet offices I had called. Moreover, she started scolding me about considering adopting another pet when I hadn't mentioned it in the slightest, making it sound like they put me on some watch list for no adoptions. They then told me they needed my cat in an hour, so I had to rush from work to get my cat in. Overall, she was very condescending and unkind in a way that compounded the guilt I was already feeling. Now, when I arrived at the office I was, of course, crying, and the office staff were unkind as well. They did not let me say goodbye to my cat, and basically ignored me while I filled out paperwork. They practically threw my cat's collar at me when they brought it from the back. They then made me pick through the cat toys I decided to donate while I was sobbing to make sure they had no catnip. All in all, it made an already heartbreaking situation that much more stressful. I'm sure they're all kind people, but they did not treat me well here, and I would not recommend adopting from a place that treats owners in this way.
Even though it was a rocky start with my first kitten, they ve been very kind and understanding despite my lashing out on them due to my own emotions. They re a great non profit.
