I had dual coverage for the month of December and even though I gave them the document proving that I had dual coverage they would not refund my premium for December. I have been a loyal customer to them for years and have never been so disgraced. It appears they are a heartless company that does not look out for the best of their customers. Terrible customer service.

Google will allow employees of this company to spam reviews to artificially pump the numbers because Preferred One is such a lousy company. However when an attempt is made for justice to bring the number back down to where it should be by countering with single star reviews, Google filters and removes it as spam. Shame on you Google for propping up THIEVES.

Another company that proves for-profit insurance is the root of all evil. Incredibly high deductible, confusing policy navigation... I would rate 0 stars if I could.

Have had this company for ~ 4 months now switching from Blue Cross Blue Shield and am disappointed at how much for difficult Preferred One is to work with. They seem to want a prior authorization for more things than I have encountered before, even refills of medications you've been on previously. Be prepared to fill out more paperwork and for long waits if you have a prior auth required. You might be able to call and have it expedited, but with the back and forth from doctor's office, pharmacy, and insurance company it is a fair amount of work.
I will say I really like the website set up, and am not typically on hold for too long when I do have to call about something. Their employees are always polite and helpful and it's fairly easy to find an in network provider in my area. I really wish they would calm down with the prior authorization requirements, it has only prolonged my waiting time for medications and treatments.

If you have a child with autism and are considering PreferredOne, please pick any other insurance. I pay an enormous amount to have this insurance (through my job) and they push back on nearly EVERYTHING. We got a $7,000 bill in the mail for my daughters ABA classes that they decided to stop paying, out of the blue, without telling us. I called to ask why this was changed without our knowledge and they said they would call me back. Never heard a word.
This is (by far) the worst insurance I have ever had. Pure garbage.

I ve had good experience with customer service, but them paying only $20 on a $1103 bill is ridiculous. What s the point of insurance if they won t cover a reasonable amount?

my family and i have a lot of medical problems and they have helped out in so many ways! there is a lot of work to do unfortunately papers to sign and everything but once it's all worked out it's not perfect but pretty damn good
they cover a lot when i was struggling i called and they were able to tell me everything i could go legally as a minor or places i could go and how much they would cover
now as far as medince they sometimes had gotten it off or forgot to cover it but the way i see it everyone makes mistakes and no everything isn't perfect but they're a lot better then what they could be! but it's nothing a phone call can't fix

I was given inaccurate information when I reached out in regards to the cost of going through a treatment. I was told one thing but charged more and for different expenses than what was explained to me. This is one example of why I think PrefferedOne is the worst insurance company I have had. I would be less bitter if I had not provided their customer care person with the codes I got directly from my healthcare provider.
This is by far the worst insurance provider I have had. If you are seeking insurance as an employee or as an employer, I encourage you to look elsewhere.

0 stars.....After my mom dealt with colon cancer and my grandpa died from it I asked my doctor what I needed to do for screening at an earlier age. They sent me to a genetic counselor (which I called PO before I made the appointment) to verify if my insurance would cover it and the guy told me the consult was covered but if they were to do any readying it would be out of pocket. Ok, so I made my appointment and then after I went and had NO TESTING DONE they sent me a bill for $277. I called thinking there was a misunderstanding and sure as the sky is blue they hit me with no, the guy who you talked to said that it would be covered on your deductible but you still owe money on it so that s why you were billed. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? Got my foot looked at 2 months ago and there goes another $331.....worst insurance ever. Would never recommend, not even to my worst enemy.

I used to rave about PreferredOne, but since June, I have called to check the status of a claim 6 times. Each time I have been told something different. Be ready for a lawsuit PO. Glad to be switching insurance companies in January.

Right now 0 stars preferred one. The referral I received from my dentist, to see an oral surgeon for spot on my lip per Preferred One would be out of network. I requested a name of an oral surgeon in network from Preferred One. Yvonne, customer service, after putting me on hold for 15 minutes stated she couldn't locate one and that they're updating their website. I then searched the website and could not locate an oral surgeon because oral surgeon was not an option in drop down box, and neither was other. Also, I noticed there is not any feedback email (what are they scared of)? I called today and same blah blah blah. Lindsey could not locate an oral surgeon for me and stated she would check and call me back. No supervisors available for call (of course not). I said I will call in hour and check.

We just received our first patient with this insurance. The card is very generic and no phone # or address as to where to send claims. I found a phone # online and called. Amy in customer service was very polite, but the cards are very poor. I now know where to send claims and have an 800 phone number at least we can get the claim where it has to go.
I think you could do a better job on the cards.

ATTENTION:
The actual rating of Preferred One is 1.75.
4 of these reviews have been entered by employees rating this company at 5 stars in a blatant attempt to boost their overall score. They should be removed for this is a conflict of interest.
This should be a warning to anyone to stay away from a company that willfully practices in bad faith and a clear window into their deceptive practice.
Have been insured by them through employer, they are very expensive and offer very little for my daughters special needs which then forces my family to go outside for state aid on a sliding scale which is mostly out of pocket. So essentially we pay twice the amount in healthcare costs than other people. This is largely due to us only having one child and are not able to have any more. It is especially rude when their customer service say's "Why not just have another kid." They should be shut down as all health insurance companies should. They are parasites.

I am not sure how well the actual insurance aspect of this company is because my parents deal with that. But I called costumer service and was not on hold at all. The gentleman who helped me answered all my questions and helped me get some options for specialists and was generally just a nice guy. Overall nice phone call.

Just had a simple question about a bill that I misunderstood. The woman on the phone talked down to me the entire time and made me feel like an idiot. After clarifying everything, I thanked her and said that was my only question, and she hung up me. There is no reason to be so rude to someone and then not even say goodbye on the phone when you work in customer support.

I have had this company for a few years now, it s the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Prior authorization required for basically any and all medications. The customer service agents are rude as well.

"Customer service" agents don't give the same answer to questions Some questions aren't even able to be answered. Probably not the agents' fault, but moreso within the company training. 98% of agents often seem miserable to be there and inconvenienced by calls. I have had a good interaction with an agent named Erin. (If you are reading this Erin, thank you for being curteous and trying to resolve an issue). Services and meds that have been covered on other health plans (less expensive health plans might I add) aren't covered on this one. Common services that have been covered all year suddenly aren't covered anymore, like OT.

I would prefer to give no stars for this company. They will deny your claims at the drop of a hat. There should be no reason why preferred one be operating in healthcare. They are anti-healthcare.

My company adopted this insurance company and in less than 6 months I am absolutely disgusted by it. I am essentially sent homework every time my son sees a doctor. They wont pay claims unless the member completes the to-do list they require. From day one there have been problems getting prescriptions paid and between my doctors office and I hounding them daily it still took them 3 weeks to clear a prior authorization on a medication I had been on for 2 years, causing me to get very sick. I have never disliked an insurance company so much! And to be quite frank, from a medical professional, they are not courteous at all on the phone. I am desperately hoping our company doesn't renew our insurance with them next year...

I had a very complicated situation happen in which my doctor wrote my prescription (for a controlled substance) incorrectly. They had only given me half the correct amount. I had called my doctor to clear up the issue they submitted a new prescription to the pharmacy and and spoke to Preferred One to establish a plan to have the pharmacy return the original prescription in the system and ring up the remaining about (which was suppose to be a 15 day supply) to avoid a hold for refilling too early. When I got to the pharmacy the issue was that the new prescription was what the original one was suppose to be rather than the 15 day supply. This was in the evening after the doctors office was closed so I couldn t get a hold of the doctor to clear up the issue or write a new The other issue was that I had to wait until I ran out of the amount I had it was a controlled substance.
I called Preferred One and spoke to a woman named Mallory. She was incredibly helpful and walked me through all my options. She spoke with the pharmacist for me tried explaining the situation and when the pharmacy couldn t do their part because of the computers she stayed on the phone with me not only helping me come up with the best solution to get it taken care of as quickly as possible early tomorrow morning but she also gave me some advice on what to do if something like this ever happens again. She spent well over a half hour making sure everything was okay and went above and beyond to provide the customer service and resources I needed.
What it came down to was a three way miscommunication between the doctor pharmacy and Insurance. Unfortunately I was not able to get my prescription tonight but she got everything set up for things to run smoothly in the morning. I am grateful for her help.
Overall I have had good experiences with preferred one. I have been incorrectly billed by my doctor before and when that happened Preferred One walked me through the steps that needed for that to be corrected!

Worst insurance company I've ever had. I had nothing but problems with them in regards to coverage and denials a few years back when my employer had them, then we switched to HealthPartners which was amazing, now back to PreferredOne and nothing but problems again. They are denying a MENTAL HEALTH medication I've been on for 15 years and I had no warning, had to pay out of pocket AT $500 PER MONTH until I was able to see my dr and figure out a new plan. I was upset when my work switched back to them just knowing there would be issues again, and lo and behold....started up right away.

I would give no stars, if I could. I fell and have a concussion so I have all these appointments. I called preferred One first to see who was in my network for Neurologist, chiropractor, concussion clinic, and Physical Therapist. I just got my benefit statement saying my physical therapy isn't covered. I called and said they gave me the information on my Tier 1 coverage and they said no they have no record of it. They also hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor. If it isn't enough to get thru the day with an injury, this just made it worse! And their suppose to be healthcare, that SHOULD care about customers? I guess not.

Laurie and Sue at the customer service line, were less than useless. Long story short, had to call repeatedly regarding a pre-cert. Was told I could leave Sue a message..but not get her direct line. After 10 days no response (more 30 days into the process), tt Laurie, who also wouldn't give me an extension but told me to tell my DDS to call her, but not specifically though, because they can't give me a direct extension to call. I asked for written determination, was told "sorry, can't do that".. why the secrecy?!?! I pay for this insurance but I cannot have a phone number or written denial explanation?? Then called DDS, told them to call Laurie... they said, as a provider, they only get transferred to a phone bank in India when they call, so there will be no speaking to Sue or Laurie. I have this insurance through work, but if you are making a marketplace choice, stay away from this disaster!!

Worst customer service and coverage I've ever had and I work at a hospital where this terrible insurance is the only option. I would highly recommend a different insurance if you have a choice. I, as a patient, should not have to call to pre-certify everything. In an already stressful time of oncology and regular appointments the last thing I need is poor customer service and poor coverage

Truly wish insurance companies wouldn't jerk you around when trying to get a prescription covered. Took a month for them to decide they were going to deny me a migraine mediation my doctor wanted to put me on. They wanted prior authorization and then more information after the first round was sent in. Once they denied me I was told there are 2 other medications you have to try first. Guess what????? My doctor prescribed one of the others I have to try and my pharmacy came back with the same message as before. Prescription is delayed due to insurance issue. Gee am I going to have to wait another month to see if they deny me!!!! WTH is wrong with insurance companies. You tell someone they have to try a medication and then still don't want to cover it. Wake up and stop screwing people around!!!!!!!
