I am a Fl. reg architect practicing for the past 35 years. We installed PGT Impact glass windows almost two years ago. Vacating our home during Irma with a false sense of security that our new windows would protect us. Upon arriving back home, every sliding door unit failed. The master bedroom being the worst. So much water penetrated the window that it flooded the room, ruined the carpet, leaked to the stucco ceiling below and caused that to sag and bow. Upon removal of the ceiling, water poured out and what we found was a rotten, moldy mess. The insullation was soaked, the floor joists were partially rotten and the mold was well established, both green colonies as well as black mold. leading us to beleive that this unit has been indeed leaking from the initial install. The great room doors leaked so bad it raised the tile flooring. The doors in the guest bedroom leaked as well and ruined that carpet, part of the plywood under the carpet has to be removed also.

We have asked Naples Glass (the company we purchased the impact windows from) to look at the units, they sent the same installer. The owner has yet to come here. In his last e mail he informed us that the new windows were almost 2 years old....WHAT DOES THAT IMPLY???

PGT had a representative here, he had no answers and told us he would call the installer. NOTHING.

Please keep in mind that we know other people are in a lot worse shape than us and our hearts go out to them. On the other hand, please know that we spent $45,000.00 for peace of mind during a storm. It is my opinion that either the PGT windows are defective or the install is inferior. We have checked with many many clients and neighbors asking them if they had the same problem. Some had minor leaks but I can honestly tell you that none had the damage and flooding we had. Many of the people I questioned still had original aluminum 40 year old windows, and they had little to no leakage.

I urge you to think twice, ask around, ask neighbors about their windows before spending your HARD EARNED money with the false promise of storm protection. I will post again with further developments, for now I am hoping that PGT will step up and give us answers. This whole mess is unacceptable.

Windows look beautiful. Unfortunately, we haven't even moved in yet and they are falling apart. Frame around windows is separating, weather stripping comes out every time you close the window. The lock on the sliding glass door is stuck and won't lock. Have notified distributor (ABC supply) but received the same substandard service after installation as during the ordering process. No contact from PGT after two phone calls to distributor.

PGT is a great company. I've worked on the lamination lines at PGT. Job wise, the people I have worked with including the bosses treated me as if i was apart of thier family. Its the best job i have worked for so far. As far as they products goes they put 100 percent into what they build.

Windows and doors have always been top notch. garage sliding screen doors not so good. Low quality materials, missing latches on most of the units purchased. scratches and dents on the panels. Customer service is customer no service.

My experience was poor overall. They ship products that are not subject to quality control, when speaking to the "Consumer Affairs Person " at PGT he told me "That they do not have the time to check all the products that they manufacture". So I guess that means that they sometimes ship defective materials and do not seem to care. These are Impact resistant windows and sliding doors that are very expensive, and we waited six weeks for manufacture. Now with holes in the wall we are waiting for parts. These people need to get their act together. I was a long time resident of Sarasota county where they manufacture these products and watched this company grow quite large. They need to revisit the concept of quality control and learn how to apply it to their products !!

I will never be able to live anywhere without PGT ...

I will never be able to live anywhere without PGT windows now that I've had my windows and doors replaced with PGT Wingard windows. It's so much quieter in the house and our south facing rooms are so much cooler than there were with the old windows. Now that hurricane season is approaching I feel so much peace of mind knowing that my windows are impact resistant.

My mother bought PGT's high impact windows and she's had nothing but trouble with them since they were installed. They are very difficult to open and more difficult, if not impossible to lock after closing.

The windows come off the track whenever we open and close them. As a result, you cannot lock them because they no longer line up. I have to go over to my mother's house, open the windows and with my brother's help (they are very heavy), we tilt out the window and realign it in the track.
We have not yet contacted PGT, because we've been filing complaints with the "middle man" (a very large company) that sold them to us. They have finally referred us to PGT.

I am contacting PGT after this is posted and I will seek a solution to this problem. Selling defective products and expecting the customer to "deal with it" is not acceptable to me and it's certainly a poor business practice. I will go as far as I need to go to get PGT and the vendor we used to install windows that operate correctly - which is what we paid for!

I will come back a re-post the customer service results I receive here and other places on the web, once I've given the company the opportunity and a reasonable amount of time to resolve this issue.

In the meantime, anyone that is looking into buying the PGT high impact tilt out windows, beware, as it appears that they are inherently defective.

I also think that ratings with details are more valid than ratings without details.

We purchased PGT sliding glass doors in November 2...

We purchased PGT sliding glass doors in November 2012 and thought we were choosing a top-of-the-line, hurricane-proof product. Well, after just two years, two of the four door panels proved that they couldn't even withstand a bit of humidity, as condensation and strange spots began to appear in the space between the interior/exterior glass panels, a problem that got steadily worse until we had to order two entirely new door panels. The replacement panels were provided for free (although we had to pay a couple hundred dollars for delivery and installation), and we got what we paid for. The replacement panels arrived caked in the yellow adhesive that the company uses to seal the edges of the glass with the frame. There was no protective plastic coating on the glass itself, and we have spent an hour with a putty knife and a pile of paper towels trying to clean all the gunk off. It's clear from the assembly that PGT's workers have no pride in what they are making--they are just trying to assemble something that looks vaguely like a sliding glass door and get it thrown into a box to be shipped off to unsuspecting customers.

The screen doors have been a nightmare from day one as well. The rollers and the track almost seem incompatible, and it's an epic struggle to open and close them every time we go in and out.

We had really high expectations for this product and could not have been more disappointed.

After getting contacted by a salesman because I requested an estimate for a new rental house I own, the sale guy transferred me to some service confirmation manager for verification. She preceded to tell me that they would not give me an appointment unless my wife was there. I said what? I am the owner not my wife, it is a rental unit. Nope she said, your wife has to be there. I truly feel bad for the sales guy. It is hard enough to get a lead but then to have it squashed be some sort of weird requirement.....I bought them from Lowes 2 hours later....Over $17K you lost out on. My wife was not even present when I bought them....don't her.....lol

We purchased our home and many of the windows are PGT. As we were not the original purchaser the warranty did not cover our issue. I used their website contact form three times and no one had the courtesy to respond.
A former employee of PGT looked at the windows and found the problem, but when he contacted the company he was told the part(s) were no longer available. A company that does not respond to consumers doesn t deserve my time and money. In my final opinion they are poor business people.

Terrible with any type of warranty need. Most unhelpful "Consumer Affairs" department I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor, and buy your windows elsewhere. You will never get help with any warranty issues from these people. Customers and customer retention is not their concern. Anything they can do to skate around standing behind their "lifetime warranty, " they will certainly do. God forbid you not have a sales order number from years past.

I bought 2 doors both the same and both have issues with locks not closing. They are super tight to close and open. I am still waiting on a call back. No one can assist and they just tell me that someone will be contacting me. I spen 4k on these doors and cant even lock them correctly. Very disappointing. I noticed other reviews from people complaining about this. Not good business. I thought I was spending the money to buy the best doors only to find out I feel less secure then my old wiid ones. I still need to purchase all the windows but will be going to other companies to get them.

Poor culture and high turnover due to lack of leadership. Manufacturing processes are poor and no quality personnel on the floor to oversee. No development or leadership training and the quality of the product is of no concern.

I have been reaching out to this company for 4 months and not gotten one single response back from them! Sent in contact forms via the website, emailed directly and been trasnferred to so many voicemails it is embarassing for this company. I will be contacting the BBB regarding them as I am attempting to have them honor their warranty on my very EXPENSIVE windows that are having issues. Hurricane season is right around the corner and yet they have given no respect what so ever. They refuse as it seems to return my calls, messages and voicemails. Operator can literally do nothing for me. BBB will be stepping in. If customer service means something to you, then stay away from this awful experience I have had.

BUYER BEWARE! Their PGT WinGuard line is advertised and represented to be hurricane impact shatterproof windows. Their promotional advertisements show a 2 x 4 being shot at the windows to prove they are shatterproof. Well, that's false advertising and grossly misleading. I had my brand new window laying on the ground waiting to be installed, no more than 15-20 minutes. When I went to install it the exterior pane was shattered. I guess from heat buildup, as it shattered with no one around it. God knows it certainly wouldn't hold up to a hurricane. Customer Service says "only the interior pane is shatterproof" and that it was not a manufacturer defect so not covered under warranty! I am still waiting (4 weeks) for a supervisor to contact me. Inferior manufacturing and awful customer service.

The worst company to deal with, they went public and became worse, bought out 2 other companies (CGI & WinDoor) and ruined them too, no one will give you straight awnsers and they hide from all issues, products don't even stand up to regular wind and rain so don't think you'll be ok in a hurricane. They blame everything on others. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN, DON'T BUY THEIR JUNK

Good product but terrible customer service. Had/have some door/window leaks & they take 6-8 weeks to respond. Do you want water leaking into your walls & on floors for 6-8 weeks!?! They think this is standard & reasonable..

Windows for life; Literally. There is no question why PGT dominates the market. Quality, quality, quality. PGT hasn t missed anything in their products, and customer service, and process improvement . PGT is community conscious; volunteering and giving back. Innovation is their thing; Rest easy knowing you purchased the best protective windows on the market, created by employees who are supported by their employer through education, on site gym, on site healthcare services, hot meals, and even a chaplain.

PGT makes beautiful high quality French doors.

PGT makes beautiful high quality French doors.

If you live in Florida good luck finding a contractor that is capable of installing them. My first contractor was a carpenter and what a horrible install. Then I hired a company that only does doors and windows to remove and re-install. Do these contractors even know the concept of a pan flashing? Do these contractors understand the three point locking system? Do they really need me to tell them there is more than plumb and level, if you don't shim properly that jamb is pulled too far to the buck creating a gap between the two doors and the locking system will never catch. I read the install instructions, I tried to guide them they would not listen. OMG do I have to redo it myself? Should have went with sliders, less complicated for these retards.

I would rate them with zero stars.

I would rate them with zero stars.
These PGT windows are about 3 years old. They are located on my lanai and have never been exposed to any sun, rain or strong window cleaners and also were further protected by the screens, which were removed to take these photos.

As you can clearly see in the photos, the aluminum sashes are corroding terribly under the anodized aluminum finish. This can only be due to poor quality aluminum and/or anodizing process.
PGT claims the sashes are not covered by their 5 year warranty, which does not include labor anyway..

The suggested solution from PGT was to buy new sashes from them and pay for parts and labor......They have thrown me away as a customer.

Your bathrooms for employees are the absolute worst I ve ever seen in my life! Filth and boogers all over the wall and on top of that there s no air flow. Worst place to work for. Tremendous hours for low pay.

Buyer Beware! I thought I was getting a decent product, but as it turns out there is a problem with their manufacturing of the glass. I noticed when I was cleaning the glass an imperfection at the top, bottom and ends of the glass. You have to sometimes look on an angle to see them. Its the laminate in the middle that was not adhering properly. So i notified the company who after an issue with the warranty (mind you I wasn't in the house for a year, but the windows were installed 6 months prior to my taking ownership of the house and I was told they were out of warranty. Well they finally made good on replacing the damaged ones only for me to find that some of the replacement glass were again defective. Two sets less then two years and now I getting brushed off by the service rep. Stay clear of this company.

Great company! I just re-did all of the windows and doors in 3 houses. The installer was Clearview Windows. I specified only PGT hurricane impact, Low E windows in white vinyl. I am so happy with the product and the installation. Highly Recommend this company

All I have to say is WOW! Do not use this company for anything. We replaced an entire hotels windows with this company, when you put the window up it falls out and is hitting people in the face because the clips are to short. I spoke with Shawn at PGT windows, not only was he very rude to me, he just keeps giving me phone numbers of different companies to come look at the windows. They are not associated with PGT and they want to charge me. I'm not paying to fix this problem when it was obviously a manufacture issue. I Do not recommend this company to anyone. It has been nothing but a headache sense day one.

One of the worst factories to work for. They are constantly laying off people left and right all the time. Maybe if their products were better quality, then more customers would want to do business with them, resulting in more jobs.....

I had PGT Win Guard windows installed in our house in 2006. Within a year or two a few windows developed a fog-like film. I eventually decided to have those windows repaired. I called PGT several times to inquire if I had any warranty protection. I had to call several times because the first time, I was left on hold for 30 minutes. The second time I left a message on an answering machine that went unreturned. The third time I finally reached a rep, who clearly had an attitude. He pulled out all the normal tricks for weaseling out of a warranty, do you have your receipt? etc. They clearly know this problem with their windows extends beyond my case, but they seemingly have no interest in resolving it. We'll have to hire our own glass firm. I would rate the PGT customer service experience as miserable and wish that I had chosen another brand.

Built a new home that closed in 2015. Did my research on windows and visited their plant, took a tour, and met with staff to discuss the best window option for our home. PGT was great. Unfortunately, one of their dealers, 84 Lumber is a joke. Do not buy from them. They supplied and installed the windows. Their installation was so poor that the builder had to bring out PGT reps to inspect and work on how to fix. Still having problems and can not get 84 Lumber out to the home even though the home is only 10 months old. Out of frustration, called PGT today to ask for their help since it was their dealer who did the work. Their answer, "Can't really help you with this." Extremely bad customers service on a very large purchase.

Mediocre product at best. Apparently it is beyond their ability to manufacture scratch-free windows. Luckily we did not replace all the windows in our house with such an inferior product.

Our Pgt windows were and still are the best decision we made while building our new home. We purchased the vinyl with the bronze exterior and the white interior. The windows are great at blocking outside noises and noisy neighbors :/. They have so many specialty sizes and the windows tilt inward, which is the neatest cleaning feature! They are beautiful and the price was right in our budget.

I had PGT Inpact windows and doors installed on our new house. The PGT sliding door leaks air and there are gaps between the slides and doors. Very poor design on the door. The windows are ok, but not great for what they cost.

My newly installed sliders are the "Low E- Energy Shield Max" ,and are supposed to( according to the spec) be gray color. However they have a distinctive purple hue to them looking from the inside out, as well as from the outside in.

Curious if anyone has had a similar experience and knows what this is all about?

Thanks!

I would hire people who live close by and who actually want to work regardless if he or she has any experience in the business of manufacturing because I actually have a heart. Training new people isn't hard. Plus it would help the locals in the area of nokomis but that's just my opinion. My whole interview process was the most unorganized process I've ever been to. Too many days went by just for a 2 day interview by two different members of management just to call them another day after to find out "we're not sure what's going on with your interview" the manager was supposed to call me back an never did. Thanks for wasting my time and the companys "unprofessional" Your company's loss finding a dedicated and loyal hard worker like me. There's not a job in this world I can't learn how to do. Thanks for the good laugh though and a good review. "This happened about a year ago".

Put in PGT windows when we built our custom home in 1997. Now want to upgrade to hurricane glass. Called their "customer service" number and got put on hold for 30 minutes; then a recording came on that they could not help at this time and call back later. Called back and got a flippant receptionist that laughed when I told her I had been holding for 30 minutes for nothing. I complained and she hung up on me. Take your business elsewhere!! Save yourself the pain!! Why bother with this company when there are others that take you seriously!!

In May of 2018, we had PGT impact windows installed. Specifically: Winguard Vinyl, lowE, argon gas with grey tint and ogee grid. We wanted the benefits from lowE, but wanted to downplay any green cast that might show. Therefore, we chose lowE with grey tint instead of clear glass. The grey tint hid any green reflection in the glass. We are very pleased with this combination.
The tint reminds me of sunglasses. Reflective and dark from the street view but almost clear when looking out from inside the house. The dark glass makes the white window grid stand out in a good way and it adds an extra level of privacy during the day compared to clear glass. These windows absorb lots of sound. Train and lawn mower noise is greatly reduced. The lowE and argon gas combination blocks out a significant amount of heat. Our Florida home stays cooler in the summer with the new windows. The tight seal on these impact windows makes our home warmer in the winter. PGT is a huge player in the impact window market. They have a great warranty. Google: Warranty - PGT Windows.
If you live in the south Florida area, check out Newman Windows and Doors. I was very satisfied with their work. I submitted a google review on Newman. In the attached image, the house number is blocked out with a white square for privacy reasons.

Bought my home 2.5 years ago. It's a 2004 and had PGT doors and half of them leak air badly from warping. My aluminum french doors are the worst. I looked up the warranty on new ones and it's 10 years so I assume these aren't warrantied for life and I need to pay thousands for new ones. Not happy.

Thank you PGT for helping out by bringing badly needed supplies to Bay County. Now 8 days out from Hurricane Michael, we are still without electricity, but the awesome generator you gave me is powering an air conditioner, lights, phones, and water pump so that we can stay in our house during this overwhelming clean up. You guys are so kind and awesomely generous! Your quality materials, including tarps, water, chain saws, gas cans, generators, and so much more brought relief to so many who desperately needed them. The Makita saw has powered through a ton of branches and helped clear roads and yards from fallen trees. You have my heart, my future business, and my sincere gratitude for your generosity, time, and kindness. Thanks a million!

If you purchase the right product through a knowledgeable and reputable company you get what you pay for. I was shown many different brands of windows and doors and choose PGT based on the company that was selling it. There are so many options that are offered from builders grade to quality upgrades. If I hadn't had the company come out that explained the stainless steel options, and box screen options I would have gone with a "cheaper" company and been disappointed. Definitely love my windows and doors and installation. They work and look great, noise from outside is reduced tremendously and our electric bills are about 30% less in the summer. Thanks PGT!

Beware of PGT's purchase called New South Window S...

Beware of PGT's purchase called New South Window Solutions. They were NOT a solution for us.

I was excite that PGT was purchasing New South Windows. Big company with years of experience should be good for a company. New South is a disaster to it's customers, just check the BBB reviews / complaints. Dishonest salesman, poor communication, sloppy work, and so far, zero follow through. They failed our inspection on 3 counts then just let the permit expire. I have no idea whether they're coming back. I begged New South not to remove the old windows / doors from our window wall if things couldn't be centered. After missing by an inch, New Souths marketing manager said centering was not specifically in the contract, so that shouldn't be an issue. Their egress window latches ended up 7' from the floor. To that they said those should only be latched in a hurricane. Apparently emergencies don't happen then?? These guys should be delivering pizza, not installing hurricane rated windows.

Impact windows and doors can run $30K-$50K on even a modest home. So who can you trust if even a PGT owned company can't do the job right? Homeowners need a company who isn't afraid to stand behind it's products. Maybe the answer is national chain box stores. Sub-contractors aren't always perfect, but the box store becomes the general contractor and WILL stand behind the work. If you have trouble at a local store, you can contact corporate who are usually quicker to resolve issues. What good is a "Lifetime" warranty, if it means a lifetime of substandard work. New Souths spin doctors expected us to lower our standards. Minutes before New South failed the county inspection I had two managers and a salesperson here telling me what a great job they had done. They failed with missing fasteners, unsafe egress units, and misaligned window wall units.

PGT's reply below basically said NSW will honor NSW's warranty. New South hasn't even honored the original installation. Again, what good is a lifetime warranty if it means a lifetime of substandard work. PGT didn't do the work or sell the windows, but they do own the company. They should have an obligation to what are effectively PGT customers.

If you own a Florida home and are replacing Windows then you have to trust the company who invented the hurricane window and who makes products to withstand the tropical climate. Northern made products simply cannot provide you with the benefits and/or performance that a Florida engineered product can. Hands down, great company.

Lousy product. Purchased PGT impact doors for my home. Nothing but issues.
The latest is a French door installed 7 years ago. Locking mechanism failed in locked position. Only way to get doors open is to cut the opposing door s upper and lower locking pin with an Electrict saw that will also damage seal and frame possibly requiring complete replacement of doors
