The parking situation is confusing, there is a meter but no indication of when to pay and penalties for not paying. I only visited the lobby area and conference room. The main area is quite nice but the bathrooms stalls all smelled like hot urine.

The room was great, the front desk was absolutely FANTASTIC (shoutout to Rashmeen who was by and far one of the single best people I've had the pleasure of dealing with in terms of customer service - she is the absolute definition of professional and accommodating.) However I cannot leave the review I wish I could. The reason for this is due to the billing. They charged for the stay, and for the incidentals (which alone were more per day than the room was) which was understood. Then a few days into my stay I'm charged additional money randomly. A small charge here, and then later an additional $200. Upon seeing this I called the hotel as I was out. The person I spoke with said they can't see the charge or tell me why it was there, but accounting (which was unavailable for some reason) might be able to. Either way, I was put out of over $200 additional that wouldn't clear from my card for another "5-10 business days". That alone is enough to turn me off from using the hotel again in the future. When I budget for a vacation I make sure I plan the hotel expenses meticulously. When they charge me an extra $200 and can't even tell me why, it means I may have to cancel a dinner I was looking forward to as I now don't have the $200 I was going to drop there. I'm also hesitant to spend anymore money on my vacation as I'm worried that more will randomly be taken without a reason made clear. Not something I want to worry about on what's meant to be a relaxing vacation.

EDIT: So after a lot of trouble getting in touch with their Accounting department, it turns out I was charged for another customers room and expenses. The woman from accounting was absolutely excellent in helping me deal with this, and I have a lot of praise for her. I do wish however that it wouldn't have happened in the first place, and that the other people I spoke to would have been more receptive instead of telling me that they don't see any charges and that if there are any they'll fall off within however many business days. When I checked out I tried to show the additional charges on my card to the gentleman checking me out, a man named Daniel, and all he really had to say was he didn't see anything on their end and the charges will fall off. He seemed more interested in moving on to the next person than figuring out what the charge could have been possibly.

It was a nice experience. my boyfriend and I stayed here to get away. It has a spacious room nice nice long couch against window, bed is comfy with goose feather sheets and pillows. We had one with a balcony, It was beautiful view look at the galleria.. Pretty nice but pricey I gotta say.. Very modern, and retro at the same time.

The staff was very nice and helpful. I had a lot od questions and they were all very patient and kind. The room was great and so was the view. I really like the style of the hotel, the whole place has a really cool vibe.

Will never book here again made reservations a week ago and drove three hours to be told they cancelled my reservation after I talked with a representative the day before then was told by the night manager that there policy was to cancel the room because my card wasnt processing after was told there was nothing they can do and she stayed in the back to say she called a manager I will never recommend this place and will make sure if any ask me about it to never go worst hotel experience ever

I felt very disrespected by Sanne Martinez. I was trying to attain a room with no regard to cost and was denied a stay there due to her telling me it was sold out, I was a former employee so I requested a walk letter to the Sonesta and was denied that as well and at that point Sanne Martinez had security escort me off the premises. As a former employee there I have lost family time, self motivation and been micromanaged I hope mangement changes so that no one gets treated like this for the first time or ever again.

Way to over the top decorations. Try to compete with a style that is not theirs i fought more with the decirations in the room than i was able to relax. The bathroom was a complete joke i will never stay here again

This hotel is way too expensive for the crappy rooms they have. There is a out dated sliding door to the bathroom that you would literally walk through if you are not careful. The bath tub fills up with water while showering. The breakfast was horrible. They took almost 2 hrs bringing it. then when they arrive more than half of the things we order were not on there. Me and my husband promised to never do a staycation there again. ABSOLUTELY UNWELCOMING!!

Hotel Derek isn't bad, but it's not the best. Primarily because of the staff. This is a management problem; there are better hotels in the Galleria area, I would know. I'm in a hotel 4 out of 7 days a week.

The beds are firm (not a bad thing) and the rooms are fun, nice and clean EXCEPT the horrible shower heads chosen; they don't work, are awkward and just annoying. There are minor things wrong in rooms (outlets don't work, lights) that is obviously a management lacking problem. They don't pride themselves.

The front desk staff is "nice enough" but there's a cold feeling, like they don't enjoy their job. The bar staff had the same type of feeling, she served drinks but it seemed like a chore.

Overall, the hotel isn't bad, but there are better options at the same price point. I would suggest removing the general manager, getting somebody who takes pride in a hotel and fixing the staff & small issues around the hotel.

If you like having your vehicle broken into, you should stay at Hotel Derek. I came for a hunting trip, and the Valet and Bell staff were very inquisitive about the types of guns I had. They insisted on parking my vehicle up front so that they could keep an eye on it over night since there had been vehicle break ins around the area. Sure enough, my truck along with 6 others were broken into right next to the Valet stand. There was a 15 minute window from when the guy next to me parked and I came down stairs, only to find all the vehicles(mostly trucks) broken into. Not a single alarm went off on the busted vehicles. The valet staff tipped off an associate without question and likely unlocked the vehicles to avoid commotion. They stole guns from my truck and the truck next to me. They would have had to know where my gun was in order to find it, as it was well hidden. Absolutely ridiculous. The hotel manager refused to offer free parking or any kind of accommodation for violated guests. I had to argue to have the parking chargers removed from my bill. And the security company who was on patrol in the small parking lot was also late to the party only to find them taking their time smashing into 7 trucks.

Again, there is a shakedown going on at that hotel, so only stay there if you want your stuff stolen while you are traveling.

Love the music they have playing around the facility has a classy upper class feel with a medium (cheaper) class price per room compared to similar hotels. I always have been in the rooms with balconies and I ve always loved coming to this place .

Place claims to be a 4 star diamond boutique Hotel but the Best Western Motorway Express in Saraland Alabama will put this place to shame. Booked 2 rooms due to a wedding and a 400 dollar hold was required for amenities. I own a travel agency and stay in hotels frequently and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had.

Stay was good. Parking is a little expensive and there is a service charge for each night as well so be aware of that. Overall had a decent stay though. Walking/close driving distance to a lot of good restaurants.

After Hurricane Houston Harvey, I stayed at this hotel for one night on August 30th. I checked in at 3pm. The hotel told us that because of the end of the hurricane, there were a lot of people checking out today. We will wait until 6pm. Because of the end of Houston's work that night, I was drinking with my friends. I drank a lot. I went back to the room at about 12 o'clock in the evening. I went back to the room and went to sleep. I slept until 10 o'clock the next morning and was woken up by my friends. I quickly rushed to the airport. Later, I found that the bill was more than $55.21, which was said to be the consumption of the minibar. I don't even know that there is a mini room in the room!
Then, call to ask for a refund, 2 calls are all the manager is not, after telling the manager will tell me back to the mail. As of now, there is no result.

This hotel is overrated. Way too expensive for what it is. $24 for breakfast??? Give me a break. The rooms were small. It was nice having a bar there, and the wait staff was very friendly. The drink prices were over priced as well. The swimming pool is pretty small too. Good luck parking and having that secure feeling of no door dings. The parking spots were just wide enough that all full sized vehicles had their tires on the yellow lines. I guess it's supposed to be an exclusive style hotel, but we were super disappointed. The lobby area was artistic and decent, but we weren't staying in the lobby. I would not stay there again.

Hotel Derek is Deceptive !!!! The lure of the Galleria Area draws you in with amazing pictures that do not deliver on the promise, The hotel lobby at first glance is trendy with lost colors that are amazing if you enjoy a rodeo circus. The staff is plesant and quick to check you in with a Mona Lisa smile. The room was checked in left me in shock but not in a good way. The room looked like it was decorated by a blind cowboy nothing seemed to match and the view was of a dirty wall painted to look like cow hide. At least one could find refuge in the bathroom ohh sweet serenity. There was none to be had here the bathtub was dirty and the the rest looked like someone decorated it in discount snakeskin wallpaper. This is not cute I called downstairs and told them about the issue, The housekeeper gave me a look like really you want me to clean this and i also showed her where the carpet was coming off the floor and the dirty fridge she replied its made that way. So with that being said i called downstairs and they said they would waive the hotel fee. I was confused is this a resort???? If so I may possibly have been in hell no pitch forks. The bed slept well on to breakfast and check out now this might have been a redeeming quality as my fees were not waived and they offered me breakfast but this to was problematic seems you have to tell everyone your food has been comped and then there is no structure to this like tickets or anything so you feel uncomfortable. The food is passable for ihop on a decent day nothing to rave about. The icing on the disaster cake was check out were I was told to come back while they figure out how to adjust my bill. Hotel Derek needs to rethink the idea of luxury boutique hotel!!!!!

This place looks amazing, the room was very clean. My problem was the shower, within 5 min the tub was about a foot deep. You are showering in your own dirt. I checked in the night before pretty late. So I spoke to management they said the could get me a new room. But we were in a rush to leave in the morning. The guest next to me also claimed the same problem. Let me clarify they did offer me a new room to take a shower. I was just in a hurry to leave. Be aware that valet and self parking is pretty high.

Eh

The hotel itself was gorgeous!

The hotel itself was gorgeous!

Pros:
-cute hotel

Cons:
-very small rooms even for the 2 beds
-they are extra fee happy, charging you random service fees for things they did not inform you about
-the front desk literally answered the phone ONCE out of the 10 times I called.

I think my husband and I will stick with the large chains.

This was a pretty poor experience as far as hotels go. We arrived to a broken elevator and needed to haul our luggage down 6 flights of stairs. There is only one elevator and it was out of service. Parking is from the 6th floor up. We checked in and went to our room. The hotel smelled old and musty. We got into our room & set the thermostat because the room was at least 80 degrees. We left to go to our event. When we returned it was 80 degrees. We set the thermostat lower and it never cooled off the entire night. There are curtains that do not block any light whatsoever, so don't plan on sleeping in. The toilet when flushed was barely able to handle a small amount of toilet paper. The bathroom was cramped and in need of an update. The bed is mediocre at best. Very low to the ground. Overall this hotel is old, and falling apart. This was a 0/10 experience and I would not recommend Hotel Derek. There is a hotel nearby called "The Houstonian" if you're looking for a hotel in that area I would highly recommend The Houstonian over Hotel Derek.

Nice decor...great restaurant/bar. Bar manager was a hightlight. The 4 stars are for the little details that were problematic. Missing soap in the bathroom. Elevator in the garage was out on two occasions. Floors 4 and below were reserved for valet only so it required going up several flights to get to my vehicle. I would stay there again. (Learned they were recently (1 month) under new management and had some new staff.)

The staff were very nice. But, very hard to find. It is a 1 or 2 man crew at night. No one answers the front desk phone.
The rooms and hallways are old and run down. The tubs are small and old; with tiny old shower heads. The toilet leaked all over the floor into a puddle. It was draining out from the handle.
We were told queen size beds and we found they are small double beds. And with 2 teens in this little bed, it was a nightmare. There is a large orange couch in the room but it was filthy. We didn t even want to sit on it. It was the kind of room that makes you feel uncomfortable to touch anything. I usually always read the customer comments and this time I did not and what a mistake I made. Never again. We were suppose to stay 3 nights but we checked out first thing in the morning.
Very disappointing experience!!!!!

Checked in on Black Friday and was looking forward to a good weekend, despite the rain. Valet helped with the bags and they were great. Checked into the room on the 9th floor and that's where it went downhill. Nobody was wearing a mask and weren't asked too either. The room was outdated. Stains on the couch. Light wasn't working and the toilet kept running. The shower wasn't draining at all. The new bar downstairs was nice and so was the bartender. The bathroom in the lobby was leaking around the toilet.Luckily I checked out the next day and the lady at the front desk gave me a breakdown of the charges. To my surprise, as I am checking my bank statement the hotel charged me an additional 23 for a mini bar which I did not use. Luckily I took pictures of the fridge upon check in and checkout. Still waiting on a call from them after they "investigate" the mini bar manager after I left 3days ago. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The customer svc is ok but the reputation of that hotel is better online than in person.

The location of the hotel is nice and the rooms look nice, but there are fees that are charged and are not discussed until you get there. There is $100 security fee that they take out of your account when you check in. If you're using a credit card this is not as big of a deal but if you use a debit card they will take $100 out of your debit account and it will take them 3 to 5 days to get it back to you which is extremely inconvenient when that money may be needed for other things during your stay in the city.

I hate being ripped off!!! I cancelled my reservation before this place got any of my hard earned money. When it says 139.00 price per night with Free WiFi, Gym, pool, breakfast, etc... then my confirmation was 163.00, then they want to charge an ADDITIONAL $15.00 making it 178.00, this is all before taxes etc...!!!! I called and asked what was the 15? they said for the WiFi, pool... everything they advertise is FREE. I wouldn't have even known about the additional $15 until checkout but luckily I read some reviews.

Comfortable enough, but they need to get it together. It took roughly 30 minutes to get checked in because of the line and some mishap with someone else s third-party reservation, and then I was given a room with double beds instead of the king I reserved through the hotel s website without being offered a discount. The staff were friendly enough, but I get the feeling that they are hamstrung by some screwed up reservation system. Not a 4-star-level experience; I ve had far better experiences at less posh hotels.

This is my second time staying here - AND MY LAST. I registered my rental for self-parking when I checked in on 10/22. The elevator to the parking garage is out of service. At least they have some guy in a golf cart picking people up and dropping them off at their cars. On 10/24 I went to the garage to find my rental with a boot and a sticker on the window. Outraged, I got to front desk. They can't explain why but promised to remove the boot. I am running late to the office. They offer the shuttle which does not start until 7am. Too late. They offer a cab. I accept. The concierge sits there doing nothing and when I ask him, he tells me he will get to it. There were no other customers at the time. I tell him I'll call an uber. He replies, that s cheaper anyway. I reply I don't care. Hotel Derek is to pay for this. I call for the shuttle to come back tonight. The shuttle driver who takes the call has no clue where the address is. Eventually finds it. He drops me off and as I walk to the front desk, he tries to tell me the shuttle is not free. I have him escort me to the front desk who tells him it is and that is the arrangement they have with my company. I then ask if the boot was removed so I don't have to waste my time going up to the garage. The manager does not know and promises to call me in my room. Time goes by - no call. I call the manager to complain about my whole experience. After a 15 minute hold, she apologizes and says she can t reach anyone in the garage to confirm. I tell her I will check for myself. I get to the garage and the golf cart guy is there. He knows nothing about the manager calling. Takes me up to my car and the boot was off.

Now for the balance of why I give Hotel Derek a low rating. I can't post with no stars but they get no stars. On my first stay, the shower was broken. They offered me to switch rooms when I returned from work. When I did, there was no knowledge of the switch. It was handled though. Next the kitschy decor is a thin veil over a poorly maintained property that is NOT anywhere on par with its competitors in the area. Second, continental breakfast is free - really? There are two tables - neither marked you pick from one, it is free. Pick from the other and be treated to a $20+ bill for a buffet - Seriously? I had a coffee, a hard-boiled egg and 3 slices of smoked salmon.

It takes a lot to make me write a review - especially a bad one. So I don't sound like a total malcontent - their chicken wings are pretty good.

If I could give the hotel zero stars I would. When I made my reservations (as I needed to just get out of the house during this COVID19 pandemic) I thought it would be great to stay there. I called and they had a great rate for Texas residents so I accepted. They told me I would be on the top floor which was 15 and it was a lie. I was put in the 14th floor when I arrived. Ok fine. I asked if there were any restrictions or use of amenities and I was told no. I got there and received a coupon to park for free with my rate...checked my credit card and I was charged for both nights so I will be disputing. They never told me there was no room service and no one ever came to clean the room. This is NOT the time to stay at the hotel Derek. I will be calling tomorrow to dispute this parking charge as well.

I would certainly choose this hotel for my next visit

This is a "cute" hotel but not cute enough to stay here again. I have stayed at this location before it became The Hotel Derek and it was a modest hotel. I can see where the new owners simply added bright colors and cheap modern lamps, basic mirrors, cheap paintings, and boxes under the tv to store your apparel. It is clean but dirty around the edges. Oh, the worst thing is the mattress. OMG! talk about crappy. Hey, Hotel Derek, call Marriott and find out where they purchase their bedding.

Absolutely terrible. Old, dirty, poor customer service, smelled like weed everywhere, lack of amenities. The only plus is the location, but I'd rather pay more than stay here again. What happened to this place? It used to be swanky and upscale.

I purchased the Love You to the Moon and Back package at Hotel Derek for my 31 year wedding anniversary. The romantic night I had planned ended as soon as my husband used the bathroom in the room. There were urine stains all over the toilet! It had not been cleaned from the previous guest, which left me wondering what else had not been cleaned? Did they change the bedding? Then later that night around 10:00 PM someone tries to enter our room with the complimentary cocktail that came with our package. Who delivers a cocktail that late in the evening and why would you try to enter the room after no one answered the knock? I tried ordering breakfast the next morning but no one answered the phone at the front desk or hotel restaurant. Then to seal it all, the valet failed to give us the key fob to the vehicle when we left. We traveled from the hotel to Lakewood Church, got out of the car and discovered that we did not have the keys. I would not recommend this hotel. In the hotel s defense they did take $25 and the taxes off our bill but the room should have been free for the urine stains alone. We took pictures of the toilet and showed to the front desk staff. They didn't seem too bothered.
