Not a great part of town and the hotel seems quite dated.
Was not upscale, everything in the room was cheap we had no blanket on the bed and all kinds of hidden fees my stay went from $200 to $500. Pay to park I do understand but the elevator was broken so we had to take the stairs. Very disappointed do not stay here. Customer service was great but the hotel was trash, oh the pool area was extremely small I didn t get to enjoy the pool and I paid a fee for the pool. 08/05/2020 - 08/07/2020
Very nice pleasant and clean great customer service
Nice, weird decor. Bar was fun. Right by galleria. I wasn't a fan of the lobby music. Modern dance music. Probably cool for alot of people though. Rooms were dope , foods dope. Go rockets
Great place for an after-work cocktail or meeting up with friends across town since it's centrally located.
Great boutique hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff.
If I could give 0 stars I would. The guest services is horrid...the place lacks maintenance and updates. I checked in on a Monday night and went shopping, came back about 8 and my mini bar was warm and had a terrible smell. I requested to have a new one put in and they tried bringing up a huge take space fridge. They finally agreed to move my room but then tried taking me from the 14th floor with a view to the 9th, after a battle I finally got a room on the 14th floor, all the while listening to others complain about them nit answering the phone, no one bringing up items that were requested (also an issue I had) . The third night of my stay the power went out around 12. When coming out the room there was a nasty garbage gas smell, once getting downstairs myself and about 18 other guest complained of the smell..alarms going off and we're treated like crap. We were told there is no Natraul gas lines on the 14th floor so it couldn't be gas, we then explained it could be methane and asked for it to be checked. They had no maintenance man and didn't expect him for an hour, a gentlemen called the fire department for safety purposes. After calling we were treated terrible, they were upset saying we made false claims. We stayed without air or electric till 3 am. The next morning the manager Raoul was extremely rude saying it was a city outage (all surrounding areas had electric as well as the street lights) refused to credit even a half of night. This hotel has the worst customer service of any hotel, the maintenance isn't handled properly and they've no emergency protacals. Even after every to was willing to try again, however after my review they lashed out on social media calling me drama. Tried to flip the situation as if they took care of us. If you're looking for something close to shopping and great service with the shuttle service, it's perfect just avoid staff. Except Darlene she was AMAZING.
Well I took my to Derek's For my wife and I Anniversary. December 6, 2018. The Hotel is absolutely beautiful wife loved it. We had champagne chocolate covered strawberries, they treated us like royalty.
The perfect mixture of luxury and modesty to make an absolutely remarkable stay in Houston.
Great establishment awesome atmosphere decent prices... this is a must see!
Excellent service and attention to detail. Rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable.
Was told to use the service elevator even though other people were waiting at the regular elevator with us.
Upon arrival my toilet didn't flush, and neither did my sister's! The snacks and beverages in the fridge were EXTREMELY overpriced ($4 for a can of coke?). The room (14th floor king suite) was not perfectly clean as you would expect at this type of hotel. Hot water was very spotty at times, but the bed was comfy and the view was great. Overall I expected more, but uptown hotels are usually hit or miss.
I just went there to pick up a friend, did not go inside
Never stay here! Between the fire alarms at 4am in the morning and loud movies blasting outside the window so you can't sleep, the horrendous food and old bathrooms I made a big mistake staying here. I will not be making this mistake again.
Room didn't have a microwave and the parking is outrageous
There no difference Hotel Derek's accommodations, Motel 6. The Queen size bed wasn't any larger than a full size bed.
"Meh" Houston has a severe lack of very nice hotels.
Pros: Staff was helpful and friendly, though there was a bit of a mix up with booking on the 2nd day of our stay the staff handled it well. The room, superior king, was nice and comfortable. It was quiet and we slept quite well here. The location was the best part. The pool and gym are nice amenities.
Cons: they pump cologne in the lobby and elevator vents that makes you nauseous. There is a club vibe throughout the lobby, and some areas, not to mention dance music 247 in the elevator. A Starbucks is advertised to be onsite but its just the bar serving Starbucks coffee. $23 for self parking, $15 random fee per room per night. Overall, this hotel is not for everyone, but I would stay again for the location, service and nice rooms. Cheers.
This place was horrible as the rooms were dirty and had to get changed to different rooms and incorrect fees were charged to card that or incorrect several times and the event plant at the hotel was a lot of confusion with the contact person that was saying one thing and then it changed as time went along I would not recommend
I was charged a 15.00 service fee they said is a standard charge for amenities. Other hotels include amenities in their room rate. Don't call them amenities if you are going to charge for them. The tub didn't drain which made for an unpleasant shower and they charged me 21 dollars for mini fridge snacks when I did not have any. Also...you pay 31.00 for valet but they also charge you a tax. Really...so the government is getting that 4 dollar tax on my valet? I doubt it. Called guest services and no one answered and I never got a call back. So many hidden fees it's ridiculous. Update....my 100 dollar charges per day for "incidentals" are still pending and the lady at the hotel...when I called cant find my receipt from the bar....because I am questioning the amount and she couldn't find it. She said she would calm me back and she never did.
The service was excellent especially security who provided removal of problem.
We stayed at the hotel Derek this weekend for our 10 year anniversary and they upgraded us to the Penthouse! It was amazing and beautiful. We enjoyed the view of the Galleria and having drinks on the balcony. The hotel bar has great drinks and the breakfast buffet is better than the majority of hotels we have stayed in across Houston. The staff was very professional and polite. I will definitely be back to stay at Hotel Derek!
Rooms a little outdated parking fee desk fee room smelled of urine
I won't ever do it again to many hidden fees. Read the FINE PRINT. $15 for a front desk fee is ridiculous.its like going to a restaurant and paying for your meal plus the chef to cook it and the waiter to wait on you. I also had to pay $54 for parking since we had 2 cars. I understand it was in the "fine print" that i obviously didnt read but when I called to confirm my reservation it should have been mentioned to me. I paid for my parking downstairs the night before i had the receipt and then when I woke to my bill they were charging my card again. They removed it but that fact that I had to go argue with them about it was crazy. When I showed him my receipt he said that one of my cars had been towed. Thankfully it wasn't but I was just about to have a heart attack. The tubs and the sink were practically clogged cuz it drained really slow. The hotel is nice the room was too but I would NOT do it again.
They hold $100 PER NIGHT for incidentals. There is a $15 per day service fee. Parking is $25 per day. Keep that in mind before booking. It's a complete ripoff.
Honeymoon suites and singles too, great place to uwind and be at the heart of Houston.
We had our company Christmas party here and it was very elegant. Nice atmosphere will highly recommend. :)
Great location and very reasonably priced. Very attentive staff.
Will never go back. It s my fifth time there. Ordered something from room service, it was bad, I asked for it to be taken off, they threw a fit, the Waitr came up to remove it and was snotty. I had to take a day off my trip bc if work, the penalty was one nights stay. Thanks a lot. I ll never go back, even after going five times. Goodbye cheap, trashy hotel.
Staff was friendly! Rooms were clean and nice. Hotel is a bit dated and located across major highway from galleria area. The primary reason for lower rating is the resort fee which was not clearly noted. Was here for one day and used nothing for the fee. No complimentary water and everything in the room for fees. Kind of nickel and dime. Too many other hotels that don t charge the resort fee, free parking, complimentary water and other drinks, and walking distance to Galleria.
I reserved a room for my cousin's wedding day so that they could get ready, take photos, and spend their wedding night. Early check-in is based on day of availability and isn't ever a guarantee. We weren't able to secure an early check-in over the phone, but upon arriving 90 minutes before the ceremony to get the bride dressed Taylir and Angel saved the day. They immediately jumped on finding us any room just to make sure we were going to make the ceremony on time and dressed. They went above and beyond to ensure my cousin's wedding went off without a hitch. It was the perfect location from all that's around in the Galleria. The level of customer service from Hotel Derek makes the reservation well worth going with the boutique hotel and forgoing all of my loyalty program hotels. The bride was stunning and I'm so grateful to the amazing women at Hotel Derek for helping my family celebrate the joyous occasion.
Like that it's easily noticeable in a such a tight city space.
I love staying at the Hotel Derek over the weekend in Houston...for a wonderful comfortable stay.
Pleasantly knowledgeable staff, stress-free check-in, and wonderfully relaxing... I'm at a loss for negative comments about my stay.
I LOVED the room, beautiful hotel, absoluelty breathtaking! The only thing is, you have to call several times about your refund of the 100$ deposit they make you pay at check in. They say its supposed to be back within 3-5 business days, but I didn't get mine for 3 weeks!!!! Other than that, My stay was perfect. I didn't do the room service thing because it was pricey, but I defiantly took advantage of the mini-bar! :-) I would recommend this place and would love to come back!
Not the class act it appears. Pretentious & over priced.
This place is horrible I would not let my dog stay here. First off when we checked in they put us in a dirty room that had not been cleaned. So they put us in another room and it sounded like someone was coming through the ceiling our next bad experience was we went out to get something to eat and when we was waiting for the elevator in the parking deck and when the elevator opened it was a snake on it scared the hell out of us so we had to walk down six flights of stairs got in the hotel and let them know at the front desk not sure if they caught it or not but this is one place I would not recommend to nobody not this place sucks and overrated!
Not as luxurious as advertised....lobby area is a font
This place was terrible! The bellhops couldn't speak English very well and we spent 10 minutes trying to figure out they were trying to get our bags out of the trunk. Sounded like both of them kept say, "Box?" The rooms look like a Super 8 room, only with a nicer bed and some contemporary art on the walls. They have pics of their pool at night on their website but neglect to mention they close the pool at like 8pm. And you have to pay to valet park your car, ridiculous. Way overpriced.
Rooms are nice. But it was a huge smell of natural gas on the first floor. And the parking pricing is a little high as well.
Booking and check in was a mess. Valet was slow because the elevator to the parking garage was broken. Room was clean but felt older.
Nice ambiance and the staff was friendly, but the balcony view to a parking garage wasn't great.
Great place free shuttle to grand lux and the galleria
I wanted to treat my wife to a romantic evening at your hotel, but that was all ruined within the first hour of being in the facility. When we checked in, the front desk told us that it was a non-smoking facility. However, once we got upstairs (8th floor), the smell of smoke hit us as soon as we got off the elevator. However, we were willing to overlook that. But when we got in the room, we noticed that first of all, the decor is very outdated as well as dingy. There were nasty stains all over the orange sofa and the bed frame. We also saw a big black smear on the wall. For this hotel to be in the location it's in, I was very disappointed. We left within an hour of checking in and requested a refund. On the positive side, I will say that the young lady at the front desk was very understanding, and the valet parking staff was nice as well.
Hotel Derek is currently exceeding my expectations of a hotel.
STAY AWAY! Basically, you are going to be nickeled and dimed for EVERYTHING (except it's a lot more than nickels and dimes). It's a tourist trap and a money grab. You'll pay for parking, a ridiculous "resort fee", and anything and everything. Don't do it. There are much nicer places to stay at in the area.
Had a great time. Bartender was great bar tab was not. Room was very cool.
Nice lobby. Very professional and modern. However, check in was disorganized and my reservation was not what I was told it would be. But they made up for it. $200 per day per room hold on my card in addition to paying for my room is excessive but tolerable. Room was nice and clean. I'm not sure I would stay here again. But it was a good experience overall.
Terrible
Dirty Dusty room
During times like this the least you can do is clean
Checked in and checked immediately out
Don t do it
Valet only, very noisy lobby. Rooms are spacious and colorful
i cant share enough experience from what i came from. These family went above and beyond. I left my 8k watch inside the hotel i ran back to get it and the cleaner wiped up the place and didn't touch my watch. This watch was sentimental to me i respected that. I would to reach out to owner and tell him i love my experience.
My best man rented a room here for my bachelor party. He got the suite with the terrace view. I thought there would be a terrace that you actually walk out to but it's just a regular balcony. The room was still amazing though. Easily the most luxurious room I'd ever been in. Anytime one of my friends would arrive on the first floor, the front desk would call and ask for my permission to let them up. Makes you feel like a boss. Really pricey but worth it for a one night splurge for a special occasion
This is my third time staying at hotel Derek and I m very unhappy, worst night ever. I wanted to stay at hotel Derek as a quick getaway for my boyfriend birthday. All night long we kept hearing a buzzing sound. At first I thought it was my boyfriend phone just on vibrate until he asked me did I hear the buzzing noise. While laying in bed facing the tv it s coming from the right, while in the restroom it sounds as if it s coming through the walls. I wished I would have stayed somewhere else but it s too late And I m about to check out, lesson learned-it just was too hard to get some much needed quite sleep
Hotel and room were fine, hidden fees when checking out so check the fine print. Prices were ridiculous for drinks at the bar 20 dollars for sky vodka cape cod?!?! Not going back anytime soon which sucks cause this place is nicely decorated and has cool features as well as a great location . Paying for parking (23 dollars a night) is ridiculous
i loved the pool its a great place for the family and not to mention the beautiful views and friendly staff. one of the best experiences of my life. i will for sure be going again!!
Really disappointed in my experience booking via a popular app. Unexpected fees and high parking costs.
NEVER AGAIN, EVER! First, it took the lady at the desk 25 minutes to check me in, in part because she had to have the manager verify something because I made the reservation with a third party, and secondly because some guy's key card wasn't working, so she took the time to take care of him before finishing with me, even though I let her know I was in a hurry. So I get to the room, and the key card doesn't work. I go back to same lady, and I did interrupt her while checking in another couple, because hey, the guy earlier did it to me, and again, I was in a hurry. She made sure to finish with the other couple completely first before attending to me and realized she sent me to the wrong room. So if you go through the pictures, the first 2 are from how many times I called to try to find out about an extra charge on my card. I left a message, but NEVER got a call back and apparently there's only 1 lady that deals with this issue, and she was never in, so I eventually had to actually go to the hotel. They said someone in my room had a Redbull. Who, the maid? The lady at the front desk refunded my card exactly $5 like I told her was on my card because I didn't remember the exact amount, but it was actually charged $5.41. You can see that in the last 2 photos. Why was she not able to figure that out if they claimed to know what I was charged for? And if she was able to do that, why did they keep sending me to the same absent lady's voicemail? Why, when I called the front desk once, I was told the financial lady was "probably" on another floor and couldn't be reached? The 3rd picture is of the robes they brag about. The cow one is up to standard and very comfortable. The black one is way less comfortable than my own robe at home. They definitely don't advertise that one on the site for a reason. The 4th picture is to warn anyone to watch your shins. Both my fiance' and myself kept hitting the corners of the bed base that stick out. You can also tell from the wear and tear, we weren't the only ones. The 5th and 7th pictures are to show you how dirty the ac vents in the room and bathroom were. They obviously don't get cleaned at all...just like the floor and possibly tub. The 6th picture is of the dirty stained tub. I hoped paying for an expensive room included a jacuzzi tub. I could get over that, but not the filth. And to make things worse, we had to call maintenance because the water wasn't hot. Front desk said they'd be right there. Took almost 20 minutes later. The guy said he'd fix it in about 5 minutes, but it actually took him 20. I'm not upset about how long it took, because you have to give people the benefit of the doubt when fixing things. I'm upset that we had to call him in the first place in an "upscale" hotel. The 8th picture is of a soda bottle top. It was the first thing I saw when I walked in the room. I looked closer at the floor and saw strands of hair too. So was that their average level of cleanliness? I left it there the entire time. The 9th picture is of the balcony. When you're paying for a King Balcony Suite, wouldn't you expect there to be a light on the balcony so you could enjoy it at night? I guess not. And the last picture is to show you the cheap couch that looked like it was attached to the wall, which could be easily pulled apart. I'm am not joking at all with my next opinion. I have been to Holiday Inns that were much less and 3 times better. Hotel Derek is overpriced and very much underwhelming. I personally will NEVER pay to go back, and I absolutely mean that. I expected so much because of it's reputation of hosting stars and athletes, at least that's what I heard. I'm just properly warning people by my experience. People will continue to go, so I'm not going to say don't. I just had to do my part to properly warn others.
It was a much needed retreat from the daily activities of life.
Room was outdated. Paint peeling. Tub looked horrible and hardware was loose. More like a motel then hotel. Will not be staying there again.
If I were you I would read this . I never give reviews but today I have time . They wouldn t get any stars if it was up to me . I was given a room that reaked of a terrible order. I was then moved to another room (Thank God) . I had to (by myself) move all of my luggage to the new room, assistance wasn t offered. I was in my new room at approximately 9:30 pm .. to find the new room light bulb had blown out. At this point I wanted to cry.. all I could think was I spent my money half of a thousand dollars on this sorry of an excuse hotel . I tried calling the front desk again after waiting for about 20 minutes I was able to notify them of the issue . Fast forward the next morning as I m getting dressed , I noticed I m missing my cross over purse. I must ve freaked out ! I called the front desk immediately to let them know and asked if anyone had checked in to the smelly room. She told me no and that she would send someone up to look for my purse. I heard a knock at my door low and behold the staff was holding my purse. I was so happy until I notice my MONEY was missing !!!! I warn you do not stay here .
Had the best time ever with wifey! Big rooms, excellent views, delicious food, what more could you ask for!!
The hotel is very nice and clean the service good. Traffic is bad at the location.
Nice..and quit rooms, good and clean! also nice workers.."they was very helpful"
