My experience with Hotel Derek was far from nice. The glamorous pictures you see online are far from what you will get with this hotel. The staff was not welcoming, and I overheard a clerk being rude to the girl checking in beside me. We also found out upon arrival that the pool area would be closed due to a private event. It would be nice to know these things before booking a hotel room. I could have stayed down the road at a hotel with an open pool. The shower knobs were dirty, and the room was just average for the price we were paying. Trying out a new hotel was not the best idea, and I will keep my business with the Marriott down the road. I have never had a bad experience there.
Horrible experience alot of hidden fees and no refund i wouldn't suggest Hotel Derek unless your rich one towel in the rooms every thing cost nothing complimentary come back and visit lol yea right
Staff not that friendly , inrenet is not free, old building but I liked location and bed
The rooms are wide and well maintained. The staff is quick and friendly. The view is amazing and very close to the galleria.
It's expensive and they charge for every little thing
Rooms are not up to date..my friend room A/C was not working.they charge an additional service fee ..
My complaint is rude staff. Problems at front desk with Mrs Willis. Avoid this place if possible. What should have been smooth was turned into a big problem.
I don't even know where to begin with this hotel.I stayed her e because I had a photo shoot and thought this was such a beautiful hotel and a beautiful scenery, but never again First of all this hotel is not worth staying at. The rooms are a bit small and outdated. Second of all they charge for everything. Towels are $3 if you decide to order extra towels. They have all kinds of hidden fees. The food is very expensive and not worth it. And parking is $23 to self park and please don't ask for a microwave that they charge $25 for and please do not go in the mini fridge and eat the snacks that they have in the room. The beds are not comfortable and for it to be a 4 or 5 star hotel they do not offer and kind of continental breakfast. I have stayed at way better hotels and have way better treatment. I will never stay at this hotel again. i will stay at he one across the street before I stay here again. Very dissatisfied.
Good place for a conference and a few nights stay. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Nice fitness facility.
Oh you can imagine. Great place to have a wedding. Great staff. Great amenities. Great part of town to watch Houston never sleep from your suite balcony. You wont be disappointed.
A known hang out for pimps and prostitutes in the bar.
Great hotel! Location was close to a bunch of good eats
This place is overrated. Low grade rooms. Disgusting bathrooms. Poor customer service. I called front desk several times to re clean bathroom and for extra hand towels. Bathroom never cleaned by housekeeping and housekeeping kept bringing big towels.
Hidden fees. Was hoping to get 5 star experience. However I felt like I was over charged for my stay. Pretty much paying for a name. Compare to Hilton it was pretty disappointing
The view from the room is nice !! The rooms are alil small !! The shower is cramped and a bag of doritos is 3 bucks and a bag peanuts is 7! ! the decor is retro and is my style !! booked with an app called hotel tonight so got it for cheap !!
This hotel is well regarded, but we can't figure out why. Pretentious without reason, small rooms not particularly well furnished, horrible traffic on the street with the entrance, exorbitant parking rates (and ONLY valet available). First -- if you stay here, plenty of street parking available a 60 second walk away on Westcreek Lane. In the same week we stayed here, we also stayed at the Shereton Suites, not a block away, and found it much better in every respect. Free wireless Internet; at least they have that. No in-room refrig -- minibar with no extra space.
My Second stay in two years.Shared my Loves Ashley's birthday... Smoking Hott Night. One of the best views in H-Town
An unfortunate experience, poor service, ironing board broken and despite half a dozen requests, never fixed. Issues with water pressure. Food under cooked and in general a general malaise towards customer service. Only reason this review has one star is that Mike the bar man is great. A three start appearance but a one star experience
The vibe of this hotel was amazing. I loved my room , it was very clean and unique (the bubble lamp above the couch gave my room the perfect touch). All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. The next time I am in Houston, I will absolutely be staying a Hotel Derek. Thank you all.
If you re looking for somewhere elegant this isn t it. I m disappointed we spent$140 for one night. The view was nice but the rooms are very outdated, pillows not plush. The cleanliness of rooms haven t been maintained very well. Overall I was not happy with quality however, the staffing was very nice and helpful
Not a fan. The lobby was nice, and the staff was friendly at check-in, but that's about as good as it got. For a luxury boutique hotel in Houston's premier shopping district, Hotel Derek leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms are dated with popcorn ceilings and confusing design. The check-out time is 11am and late check-out is $50, regardless of how late. And the elevators...there were only 3 and after almost 5min of waiting for one going down, we eventually had to get on an elevator going up just to get to the first floor. This is supposed to be a nice hotel that charges a premium for its guests. It was certainly nice-ish, and I'm fine with paying, but I expect to receive equal value in the quality and experience of my hotel stay. Will not be going back.
I stayed here 2 years ago and it was a great stay, just went to stay again and they have done a terrible job so far.
Love this place! The room was HUGE and very colorful! The whole hotel smelt really good! I love the outdoor theater over the pool as well. The restaurant on the bottom floor was a bit overpriced but the food was amazing! Definitely would stay here again in the future!
Good place for stay. but difficult to find parking and their parking is pretty confusing
Good nice rooms and great stuff. The only that I didn't like at all is the valet service parking it's more expensive than my visit in a hotel in Hawaii 5 star the most expensive one in my life was $30 there its $34 not including tip so its really $40...
Nice hotel, but overpriced and staff is unorganized and not on one accord. Could never get a hold of Ryan for the group booking and he ultimately overbooked me resulting in a no show fee and being charged an extra night. Freddy at the front desk was helpful but seemed to lack knowledge about everything going on. Wouldn't stay again.
Clean, nice people, great place to stay. The bar has a great selection as well as knowledgeable bartender they have a couple pool tables and a nice quiet section as well, I appreciated the Starbucks inside saved me a trip and the room service was impeccable
I dropped off a hotel guest but the personnel I saw were extremely friendly.
Professional event staff, cozy meeting space, and teriffic coffee mugs!
Great and beautiful hotel. The service was fantastic and the room was very clean.
I would give this hotel negative stars as a review if it was an option. First of all, the water from the shower left a weird slimy texture on my skin after taking a shower....Secondly they overcharged our room and i was told by a manager that I would receive a refund in 5-7 business days. 10 days later I still haven't got my money. I called the hotel back and management told me that the manager that I spoke with was "new" (which shouldn't matter). I was told that I would get a call back and they never called me back like they said they would. I feel very unsatisfied as a customer and I would not recommend booking a room here!
friendly staff and so welcoming, the rooms were very clean !!! Must stay here . The location is central to everything
This hotel wasn't bad. They charge for everything (parking and a service fee when you use your card @ check in). The room is nice and roomy.
They took advantage of people like me stranded by flood waters. They charged $15.00 extra fee for shuttle which was not running, shoe shine but he left early. Will NEVER stay here again!!
The hotel very nice, located in the Galleria area in Houston the hotel is the best choice when staying in Houston when wanting to have a great time with a really nice and clean room.
Another nice boutique hotel. The staff is all great, and the free shuttle (within three miles) is very convenient for shopping at the galleria or going to dinner in the evening.
Great service. Great breakfast. Fantastic atmosphere.
The rooms were beautiful! I enjoyed my stay on the 14th floor with my view over looking 610.
I Stayed Here At Hotel Derek Last Night (2/12/2016) Because I've Always Wanted To Stay Here Plus I Was Trying To Enjoy My Birthday Weekend... I Am Pissed Off... I Paid Good Money For A Room Just Like Everyone Else... The Hotel Evicted Us From Our Room Saying We Were Too Loud Because We Were Laughing To Loud... How Does This Happen?... I Suggest If U Are Looking For A Hotel To Stay In.. Hotel Derek Is NOT The One... The Staff Here Act So Uppity And Dosent Seem To Want To Please The Customer... Instead They'd Rather Throw U Out While Ur Trying To Get Rest At 4a.m.... Looks Are Deceving Because This Hotel Is Pure Bullshit Including The Staff!!..
Ok , this one could have gotten a 3.5 but I gave it a 3 best thing is location, food and drinks over priced for what you get. The name sounds like a oil Barron place how ever it's more hipsters the oil man hang out. Go for the on line deals it got it for 90.00 parking is 35.00 and my Mercedes Benz was park outside under the trees that left it covered with SAP.
Staff is always amazing. Rooms are fantastic. Never a complaint for this fantastic hotel.
You have to pay 25 dollars for parking.. dont have a refrigerator or microwave in the room..
I attended a professional event hosted here, the food was good and the ambience was awesome! EDIT: The only complaint I have is that the elevators in the parking garage don't work. The fancy golf cart is a graceful temporary solution. But, the cart is not always available.
Kinda ridiculous
Should have just stayed in a regular hotel would have saved money and the experience would have been the same. There was alot of hidden fees!!!
Ahhhh I'm so frustrated with this place
I'm so done
We weren't there for very long. But all of the staff was very genial and accommodating. The room was clean. And we had strawberries delivered to our room that were amazing. :)
My sister paid for us to be here for my wedding after dinner. The room we got looked like a refurbished old hotel room with a scratched tub and broken ac. It was humid and super hot even after an hour trying to cool down room. Bedside telephone was not working, used phone on table top and notified front desk. Got upgraded to a minisuite with working ac. Minibar fridge was locked, no coffee and cream for morning in room coffee. Soap smelled good, bed was uncomfortable couldn't sleep well. Only available parking is valet and you must pay $20 overnight every night for it. I've had cheaper rooms with jacuzzi and morning breakfast as well as newer looking rooms with free parking. Everything looks old once you go up the elevator and rooms. Decor is nice but not wow. Liked the window seat but the view was to a parking lot and back of buildings.
Great views !! The one night stay was awesome. Definitely going to book another room soon !!
Went for meeting Commercial Academy, extremely cold meeting room, ran out of coffee and hot water, double billed on parking, food horrible, extremely disappointing
DO NOT RECOMMEND DEREK FOR ANY SERVICES
Have stayed in the past without issues but this year was fairly bad. If you stay on a weekend be ready for a party hotel. Very loud parties until midnight on my floor. Called security and they had to address but took over 1 hour to get the noise down.
Second issue is that I ordered room service which came with hair in the food. Made a complaint but only got a txt back to stop by front desk.
And finally the tub stoppers have been removed so not use of the tub and the showerhead leaked everywhere --
Lots of other similar priced hotels in the area
Really exclusive visit, I was pleasantly surprised by amazing professional personal that accommodate any wishes in any time. Everything ready, clear perfect. Also the hotel bar is nice place and offers some original specialities.
Hi,
I spent 4 nights at this hotel from 4/15~4/19. And during this stay I was collected extremely expensive international phone call fee which is not authorized by me. Also there's a fee called "sport tax" on my bill. I'm happy to pay for what I was informed before I was about to use it. If it's not informed in advance then I think the hotel should give response. I didn't accept these fees so I asked the counter when I checked out, but she said the bill was generated by IT department so she will check and get back to me. However, until now I wrote 4 emails to your hotel and still no response. Please contact me if you read this comment, thanks.
update on 6/17:
Hi Daniel,
While you said you'd like to discuss further with me but I didn't receive any email or phone cal from you, how you would like to discuss with me about this? Please give me your email address so that I can mail you. As I said, I sent 4 emails to your hotel's email address but no one replied me.
This hotel was not worth the money I spent and extra charges were unnecessary. I kept calling the front desk and no answer nor call back. They have not checked me out and I was at the front desk to have that done. I would never recommend to anyone and plus the room looked nothing like the picture I was shown so NEVER AGAIN. I regret the stay and also I rarely rate anyone so that should tell you to get a AIR BNB before you stay here because it s not worth it AT ALL
Beautiful Hotel only it's a shame you can't find reliable maid service anymore! Ooh and Watch out for the Extra charges $15 Guest Service fee & $24.99 Parking Fee added to your bill for each day!
Loved the hotel. It's a great place and the design certainly provides a trendy atmosphere. The pool is quite small and the rooms lacked USB port outlets but the location was perfect. Right off a major highway, walking distance to our favorite breakfast spot, and across the highway from the Galleria Mall.
Visiting from Seattle for my uncles wedding this past weekend and we were so turned off. Simply ghetto.
Dirt coming out of sink facets, pee behind toilet seats and on the bottom and lacking room service. The only plus was the fact we had amazing hot water pressure in the shower and $15 to spend at the bar.
No thanks to Hotel Derek.
Hotel is nice but they do charge $24 for parking and $15 fot wifi.
Fire alarm went off at 5am... zero staff the entire time. Very disappointed!!!
5/10/2018 was a great stay the only thing was they had alarm go off 4 am and 5 am and had all the guest go in and out .
They have a small pool. The room is Good...Free WiFi (slow)
Sure please share your email or number to be able to tell you our horrible experience at Derek !
Beautiful decor inside hotel. Drinks are unique in strong. Nice location for adults to relax. Pool table. Full bar.
