We will be attending a new years eve party at the hotel Derek. First impressions during our visit were very positive. Friendly staff, classy and clean lobby area with a nice ballroom for parties/events. The pool area was pretty small but still comfy, I imagine it gets very crowded.
Overall very positive experience.

The decor is cool. Room service food was good & hot. The downfall was that the bathtub & sink did not drain properly which is pretty nasty. Overall for a 2 night stay, it was just ok.
Nice hotel...poor customer service. Be aware of the $12.99 per day service charge that is added at the end of your stay. Supposedly it is for the "free wifi" and shuttle service even if you don't use it.
Room/bathroom was dirty, needed aesthetic maintenance. The in room candy/drink bar was missing at least half of the items. I ordered a burger and an appetizer thru room service, paid $50+ for very generic tasting food. Employees were nice.
I've been visiting Hotel Derek for two years when traveling for work and this hotel USED to be a nice place to stay for a nice price. Sadly, things have gone down hill around here. My guest was locked out of my room on the second day of our trip and told that we needed to re-check in every day of our visit. The front desk made us jump through hoops to gain access or our belonging that were locked in the room, then took a very nasty tone throughout the whole ordeal. The new parking service is a nightmare to use. I needed a parking receipt for work, but the machine was out of paper for two straight days. Was told I needed to call the service # on the machine to get the receipt myself. I'll be staying at the Double Tree for all future work trips.
i 100% regret choosing this hotel to stay at for my birthday weekend! I've stayed here twice before a few years ago, but after this last trip i will NEVER stay here again and neither will my family and friends! i traveled all the way from Dallas and i'm truly so disgusted about the way we were treated by staff members. they were completely rude and heartless. i could've definitely stayed elsewhere for the customer service i received. not to mention, the price for my stay was totally not worth it. the staff/management does not care about their guests at all! do not waste your money at this establishment.
Great hotel very accommodating. Room was fantastic with a great view of the Houston skyline in galleria area. Was a little bit pricey compared to other rooms in the area but they had enough rooms available for the party we were looking for. I would definitely go back.
I love this place simply because of their great people and the rooms that they offer. They will always go out of their way to satisfy the needs of their renters.
Enjoyed my stay although it was some unexpected charges like 27 dollar parking fee that wasn't mentioned also there was a hundred dollar extra hold fee for accidents that also was not mentioned the breakfast is not free it's $12 dry bar which is cereal and milk and $22 dollars for oatmeal bacon and fruit and toast ..so be prepared but other than that it was comfortable. Will visit again.
Amazing stay. Staff was friendly. Hotel was clean and (oddly) smelled amazing. Pool area was so relaxing. Great fitness center. The food was delicious. Bar was relaxed and had a good selection AND a pool table. Will definitely be back.
Some people say the rooms are dated and what not. Personally, I felt like I was Hunter S. Thompson or some old movie star. The vibe to this place is so legit. Staff is very courteous as well.
Absolutely worst customer service. The hotel price is fine for everything included. The hotel is nice. The staff super unprofessional and the women who answer the phone are just as equally as horrible in customer service skills. I had an issue with billing and over two weeks later they still haven't fixed my escalation. I call to attempt to get this fixed they refuse to transfer to me to a supervisor manager going on 16 minutes they still have me on hold. They will not fix the error refuse to let me speak to someone in charge and whoever is working the shift at 8:00pm today just keeps putting me on hold. Worst experience
We had a great experience for the one night we were here in town for a wedding. The hotel is stylish, the staff is super friendly and they were able to give us a ride to and from the venue of no charge (but don't forget to tip, don't be that guy) due to it being within 3 mile radius. Would definitely stay here again when in Houston!
I did not plan on reviewing this hotel however from the confrontational staff, the over charging of everything to a literal crack in the wall on the 8th floor this hotel was very poor. The staff was very on edge from the time we arrived and simple questions like "Where is the loading/ unloading zone?" or "Will the parking be on the bill or do I pay in the garage?" was answered very defensively. The room was okay but what it looked like is that the window AC had been removed and a panel was put in its place however the panel left a 1/2 inch gap and let in the Huston heat also there was a crack in panel you could see sunlight through. The final straw was the elevator to the 6th floor garage was broken with no warning on check out. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Best hotel my boyfriend and I have ever stayed in. The service was amazing! The room was way better than expected! The city view was beautiful! Very close to everything in downtown! The full service gym was amazing! We will most definitely be coming back!
I am so impressed with the atmosphere. It's hip and fun. The hotel staff is attentive and friendly. They take care of you like family. I like that the hotel has a shuttle service that will take you anywhere in a 3 mile radius just for hotel visitors.
Loud halls late into the night. They turn the room into a candy store and fill the fridge with stuff for sale. Lobby is nice and the restaurant is nice.
Rather expensive for what the hotel offers. It is. Beautiful and staff is friendly. But parking garage is inconvenient, pricing for self parking and valet is ridiculous. I will say the beds are very comfortable. And the Rooms very clean.
Attended an event. According to the valet the gate arm shut on my vehicle, causing damage, they attempted to deny the damage. Will never return to the establishment, hotel management take note of the valet provider.
I don't understand how their internet is so bad. I can't keep a consistent connection for more than a minute. The room isn't bad, but not worth what they charge.
It was wonderful beautiful hotel!! Rita at the bar is amazing we laughed and had the best time with her! She is so wonderful and made our stay perfect!
Met with some friends for breakfast before a Texans game at the lobby restaurant. A lot of dirty tables, mediocre food, and poor service. Seems like the Hotel Derek isn't quite what it used to be.
Trendy hotel, good locations, restaurants nearby, nice atmosphere with plenty of amenities, nice bar area, offer a nice buffet breakfast with fresh omelette station. Absolutely recommend
I stayed here with my husband and 2 dogs. Experience was very underwhelming. Staff bordered on rude:
Good: Nice bath products Comfortable bed Decent location
Bad: Mandatory valet at $23/night + tax (website indicates outdoor and covered parking). Bed sheets were stained (gross!!) Lobby smelled funny Nintendo 64 on TV (just weird, very outdated) Slow service (multiple calls necessary to get service from valet and housekeeping despite the excessive cost) I think the Valentino served Sysco food!
Amazing hotel that represents all the good things about being proudly Texan! Great atmosphere, courteous employees (front desk, valet/bell man, and concierge!)
Overall, a nice hotel, but the front desk I found lacking in speed and efficiency. We had to wait in line twice after a computer error would not let us check into our second room. I would have found the entire process easier and less frustating if I was working with an automated check in machine.
Beautiful, great guests services and an overall amazing experience at the hotel. Keep doing what you're doing! I totally recommend Hotel Derek to anyone in the area!
Please read all the way... there was no creamer or sugar in the room, called front desk, said it's on the way, 2 hours 15 minutes later I called front desk again. told me they would comp the room and have breakfast vouchers waiting at front desk in morning. In the morning, there was no record of any refund or comp and the front desk lady was literally doing everything possible not to make it right, and still had no creamer or sugar. this place might show a dropped rate, but what they don't tell you is that it is $27 to selfpark in public lot or $34 to valet, and there is a $15 amenities charge when you check in and $100 credit card hold for accidentals. ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT. SERVICE AND COMPETENCE IS APPALLING
I stayed at this placed based on this site's reviews> IT WAS AWFUL.. The traffic noise from the interstate is beyond belief.. I could have stayed in a motel 6 and had less noise..and next time if I have the choice I will. I try to stay at "boutique" hotels but believe me.. steer clear of this one. The front desk told me "we are fully committed" on a Tue night? please.. NEVER EVER STAY AT HOTEL DEREK....unless you want to hear every truck and harley rider passing through downtown.
For an alleged 4-Star hotel, this place has the feel of a La Quinta. I'm a traveling business man and have stayed in practically every hotel out there across multiple cities and was not impressed by Hotel Derek. The common areas and entrance was nice but the hallways were damp and dirty with low lighting and my standard room was sub-par when compared to other higher-end hotels. Parking garage is vey old. I would not recommend this if you are looking for a semi-higher-end hotel to stay at
I don't think I can say enough good things about this hotel. And specifically their concierge Jim Carey.. I booked a suite for my moms 50th birthday and had to call the hotel about keeping the cake in a refrigerator for me and using the shuttle service they offer.. They went above and beyond helping me with the event. I had a problem with the restaurant and mr Carey took care of it for me. And he stayed late to pick us up from the show we went to himself. They made a family unbelievably happy and got customers for life. Can't wait to stay here again!!!!
WOW! A LOT OF BAD REVIEWS. I HOPE TO NEVER VISIT THIS HOTEL. I HAD TO COME CHECK THE REVIEWS OUT BECAUSE A FEW FACEBOOK FRIENDS OF MINE ALL TALKING ABOUT HOW BAD THE PLACE IS AND HOW THEY WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN
Parking garage had broken glass on the ground. Hotel smelled aweful. Our room was dirty. Theres no blankets. Had to switch rooms because of how bad it smelled like weed. There was some type of heater on the floor in the middle of the room left from who knows when.. DO NOT GO HERE. Its gross.
Front desk is rude and inadequate, and they switched my room to a lesser room ($135/night), but still expected me to pay for the room I originally booked ($209/night).
I had such an issue with check in because they couldn't accept my form of payment because my card didn't have my name on it. After I went through hoops to get another card, I went in and found out that an additional $100 accidental deposit was needed on top of the room charge. It would have been nice to know that at time of booking. I had a pair of diamond earrings stolen from my room while I was attending an gala at the hotel. I went down the next morning to report a theft and two other guests were complaining of the same thing. The day after I saw a random charge on my account for $31 and I had to call them to force them to remimburse me. They claimed I ate at the restaurant. The room was decent but for all this money I could have stayed at a Marriot and had a much better experience. I will not be returning to this hotel.
I wonder what kind of businesses are run out of the Derek these days???
This place is getting sleezer all the time They will lose your luggage any chance they get Probably because the peeps working the front are so damn stupid & lazy Watch your belongings if you ever go there & they'll stiff you on parking
You better be prepared to pay a fortune for parking and food. And the food menu is way over priced for a limited selection. But the staff I have to say were very friendly.
We were excited for breakfast with Santa as this us our first Christmas with our first child. However, my baby caught a cold/fever/ear infections at daycare and had to keep him inside. We were not able to get our $109.50 refunded.
Update Mark- I ve called many times and left you voicemails, but have not received any calls back. I called the hotel that morning as soon as I found out my baby was running a fever. Didn t take him to spread the bronchiolitis virus as the cold season was bad. Only if I can give zero star...
This hotel is horrible. They don t tell you about the $100 per night deposit until you check in. Then they don t tell you about the $17 per night for amenities fees that they will take from your deposit and other charges. So me and the other 14 guest won t be back to this hotel!!!
great scenery....a bit of a high traffic area....but lovely rooms. balcony suite is a must get!!! friendly staff. clean bathrooms. mini bars in room.....comfy beds and fashionably decorated rooms
It was amazing. My husband and I had a really good time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very close to good restaurants, of all price ranges. The only thing that we didn't like was that the parking is $20 extra and there aren't many parking spaces for self park
They may have been nice enough to mention on their site that they will charge the card on file, but it doesn't just say CARD ONLY. So, they need to update their policies and have it say CARD only and not just mention the hold will be on the card and not accept cash as well. It seems to be that they don't trust themselves with cash around them... But other than that I haven't even gotten a chance to look at the room or anything either so I can't give it a better rating. Only rating it on how they seemed fishy to me from just the front desk service.
Nicely priced, the bar didn't have what we were looking for. Check in and out was easy, road noise was a bit much and the thermostat was lying to me, it would autoadjust back to the preset of "just too warm" 5 minutes after trying to set it lower.
The bathtub wasn't cleaned--there was somebody else's black hair in it still!! I only stayed there that one night. I was from out of town and didnt have time to find another hotel that night. I won't go back there(.)
Among the worst hotels I've ever stayed in, and that's saying a lot, as I run a travel guide. Outdoor music by the pool just outside the room blared all night long, even though there wasn't a single person at the pool. Marijuana smoke (this is clearly a party hotel) was literally so strong it woke me up at 7:00 in the morning, and was entering my room through circulation vents from other rooms. (The corridor literally reeked of pot smoke.) I went to the reception desk three times and there wasn't anyone there and I had to call out each time because the woman at the desk was hanging out in the back room. Each time she emerged she was clutching her smartphone. The whole place was ridiculous.
