This evening was my last trip to Hardin Memorial Hospital. I will never again enter this hospital or have my insurance pay a dime for the continuing patient neglect and inhumane conditions dished out to patients on a daily basis, all in the name of greed. My treatment at this hospital this evening was nothing short of deplorable, and this isn't the first time I've had bad experiences here, but it's by far the most shameful. The doctors, nurses, and even patients of this hospital should be ashamed.
First things first: I went to the emergency room with a non-emergency condition. I rarely do this because it takes up space for what would be emergencies, and I truly understand that non-emergency conditions should be pushed to the back of the line. Here's the problem: My wait time would have been no less than 8 hours, and every single person put in front of me was ALSO not experiencing an emergency condition. I witnessed patients laughing and taking selfies in the ER, teenagers, younger people, just having a ball in the ER. If you feel that good, why are you there??
I went to the ER with stomach pain. I have an ulcer and a hernia and I was concerned that the hernia may have become strangulated or that my ulcer might be bleeding. I'd been throwing up for a week and struggling through it but finally I broke down today and decided to go to the ER. Big mistake.
The "new" "faster" HMH is anything but. I had triage and blood work in the first hour. So far so good. Three hours later, we ask our place in line, and we're the 8th patient in line. Still. AFTER THREE HOURS. This means that literally everyone coming in after us was put in line before us. If I'd stayed, it would have been no less than 8 hours, and if they'd continued putting people in front of me like that I have no idea, I might have had to move in. My question is... which incoming patients would be in front of a possible hernia or ulcer complication? Was it the couple making out and taking selfies with each other? The family that seemed to be having a pow wow and taking selfies with each other? The teenagers that had congregated together? Or the lady that had a migraine? I also have incredible pain. I've had 5 joint replacement surgeries, need a shoulder replacement, live in daily pain without anything except Tylenol.
Not only this, but in the lab room where I had my bloodwork, the hospital is broadcasting a large screen that has PATIENT CONDITIONS! One read, "Shot up wrong." Wow! Way to make sure that your patient's confidentiality is respected. Anyway, someone who shot up drugs wrong apparently is way more important than someone who might be bleeding internally. Forget first come first serve, let's just flip a coin and see which patients get to live today!
Not only that, but the nursing staff was like dealing with movie theater personnel. Completely impersonal, devoid of any compassion or emotion, or even the slightest shred of decency. It was like a human herd of sick people being sat in a waiting room with no care whatsoever, the very worst experience at a hospital I've ever had in my life, and this is the last time I give these crooks the honor of charging my insurance for anything. They don't deserve to be in business.
They supposedly renovated the place but still can't see more than 2 patients an hour, and if you need compassion or healthcare, go somewhere else. You might as well be dealing with drive through fast food workers. That's the level of care you get at Hardin Memorial. But boy is your new hospital pretty! Looks can be deceiving. GO ANYWHERE ELSE: Shepherdsville, Bardstown, Louisville, ANYWHERE ELSE.
When my wife broke her arm, she sat in the waiting room for two hours with no pain medicine (they knew her arm was broken in the first hour). They herded her back to a room two hours later that had no Help button or Nurse button, no medical equipment, or anything, and all she had to sit on was a recliner. And she had to walk a long way just to get there. Just completely impersonal and inhumane medical care at Hardin Memorial.
