Pro's: every person that I have dealt with at Genz-Ryan goes above and beyond with customer service. Recently had Dalton out for a AC tuneup. This young man is very outgoing. He makes a great effort to keep me informed of the necessary work . He's professional and efficient .Genz-Ryan is on the expensive side but sometimes its worth paying extra for their customer service.

Loren just left our house after fixing our air conditioning. What a pleasure! He was friendly and in a great mood when he called to say he was coming and throughout his visit. He was thorough in making an assessment and gave us plenty of options to choose from in terms of level of repair. He explained the issue just enough so we could understand it but didn't have to become experts in air conditioning. He was definitive interactive, which is what we like when people service our home. Thanks! Oh, and I also think Genz-Ryan prices are right on and their service plan is excellent.

Dalton did a great job! I had a tight schedule that morning and he worked efficiently to keep me on time. I appreciated the texts that were sent to inform me what time he would be arrive.
Although I had no problem with Tom, and he did great work, the cost of the service was outrageous. $99.00 to have them just look at the issue and you pay that if you don't go with them. For a price reference, it took Tom 2.5 hours and he replaced two outside faucets and added two valves for $1428. Genz Ryan quotes per job and not by the hour, but even if the parts Tom used were $400, that's $411.20 / hour for labor. I should have made more calls, so shame on me, but be aware, Genz Ryan was way overpriced for the job I had them do. This one star review is due to the cost not the service.

Noah was knowledgeable about my boiler system and was able to diagnose and then repair my boiler. He was polite and kept me informed as he was working. It was a pleasure to meet him.
I had good experiences with their technicians the few times I interacted with them, but it was very difficult to get them to actually come to my house. I enrolled in their service plan, where the come to your house to do yearly check ups on your AC and furnace. Two times I had scheduled a day off so I could sit at home and wait for the technician, and two times they called the day before my scheduled tune up to say they were too busy and had to reschedule. Today they called to say they can't come to my house tomorrow, and their next open appointment is 3 months from now. I understand that people without a working furnace would be a priority, but if they don't have enough employees to do work that I had scheduled in a reasonable timeframe, then I will find someone that does.
Excellent service provider, having tried a number of other options that proved unreliable and unskilled. Genz-Ryan replaced our furnace in one day and recently repaired our A/C in less than 24 hours after a late night call before a holiday. Their staff is skilled and courteous. They stayed until we had a resolution and genuinely care about their customers. They promote a high value service in their market and go the extra mile to ensure their customers are making good decisions and receive a quality experience.

I love Genz-Ryan. They are true professionals and experts in what they do. They don't out-source or sub-contract their work; they do it all themselves and stand behind it. I will never have an install done by CenterPoint Energy again. CenterPoint sub-contracts installations to other companies and the quality of the work suffers. Also, Genz-Ryan is much faster at responding.

We had a plumbing emergency on a Wednesday evening. We contact Genz-Ryan and had our call promptly returned and were contacted by a technician minutes later. A plumber was at our home within 90 minutes of our issue starting. Matt Motz came to the house assessed the situation and also took time to review other plumbing items that we should consider - to avoid future emergency calls. Matt was professional and thorough and most importantly solved our problem quickly. We are very happy with Matt and Genz-Ryan.

Our hot water heater went out 9.25.13 and I had remember seeing the sticker add on the paper on sunday. We called Genz-Ryan and the customer service agent Kimberly was so friendly! But this review is for Chad Olsen he showed up on time and was so helpful and full of information that I knew that I had made the right call with Genz-Ryan. I just had service on my A/C. Mike helped with everything and was polite and professional.
Not happy with Gen Ryan service. I had kitchen sink clogged. Technician gave me a quote $300 to fix the problem. I said OK go ahead to do that. In the end he couldn't make it work at all. But he still charged me $300. He said "at least I tried". After I paid him a check, he said "if you really want to fix the problem, I can come back again with another guy bring a jetter ...". He said that would cost $1200 but he made an offer to only charge $900 after $300 discount. I was afraid if I accepted his offer, they would charge me $900 anyway even if they couldn't fix the clogged sink again because they can always say "at least we tried" to make a charge. I will not call Gen-Ryan service again.
Even on an extremely cold day, Mike M. was friendly, on time, knowledgeable and very professional when he installed a humidifier on the furnace today. He was very thorough when he explained how to use the equipment, and I appreciated his excellent customer service.

Dave met some obstacles and but resolved the issues and did a wonderful job! A clear communicator, who explained his procedures, was thorough in his examination and the results were excellent.
First visit cost labor and parts. 2nd visit, Ryan stayed to make sure everything was done right and continued to work. Make sure you get an experienced tech early if possible.

Genz Ryan was great to work with. David B was my technician on an emergency call on a Friday. He was great! He was very Courteous and friendly. He also was trouble shooting why the problem happened and found that we had some valves set incorrectly and corrected the situation. He explained everything and was very thorough! When our water heater broke and leaked water all over our laundry room, Genz-Ryan came to the rescue! Tom R. was our service tech and he was amazing! He was very knowledgable, worked quickly, and was very personable. Having a great technician working to fix the problem made having to deal with the issue much more bearable. You can tell that Tom R. really loves his job and takes great pride in his work! We would happily recommend Genz-Ryan to anyone else having a similar issue!
Initial service review. AC was acting up, called in a tech, Jeremy, who was very helpful in going over the system, what it is doing, how it is working. System is 45 years old, so Jeremy provided several options for repair or replacement. He was very responsive to questions and worked hard to ensure an excellent level of service. Very happy.
Install of new systems is next week, so a follow-up review will be for that aspect of the service.
UPDATE : Install of new HVAC and water heater went well, though we had some vent pipe slope issues that took 3 more trips to finally resolve. Very satisfied with maintenance calls so far.
UPDATE March 2017: Service calls continue to go well. Staff scheduling by Karen and work by Jeff is all top notch.
UPDATE September 2017: Outside AC unit stopped working. Brent G was sent to check it out. Turned out a mouse died and fried the board. :( Brent spent a couple HOURS at the end of a long, hot day getting to that diagnosis. He went the extra mile to provide honest advice once needed fixes were identified. He returned next day to complete the fixes, which were finished quickly. While sad we needed to outlay a chunk of dough to get the systems back up and running, everything else was superb. Very glad we went with Genz-Ryan.
UPDATE March 2020: Had Karim out for the furnace checkup. He was great. Excellent ongoing support from Genz-Ryan.
Brian M. completed a heater tune-up and flame rectification fix today, and we loved working with him. Brian was prompt, courteous, and took the time to really explain everything that was going on. We hope to have him again.
I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Genz-Ryan did a outstanding job installing our AC and Furnace. Customer service is top notch and the installers were respectful, knowledgeable, and left the work area clean. I will continue to use them for HVAC needs.
Dan was fabulous - personable, dug into the problem with a valve on our sump pump, and thendrove for a half hour to get the part (after working hard consulting with another member of Genz) and put it in same day when he could have just ordered the part and left it up to me to reschedule - a great experience!

10/18/18 Had to replace my air conditioner and due to the age of then unit it was much more complicated than expected. I was kept informed and the job was done for the quoted price and in the time frame promised. Overall I was impressed with the work and the professionalism. I guess I can't really rate the new unit until summer but it worked today when tested.
06/08/20 This was for my semi annual maintenance check. The service tech ,Troy Bednarek was very professional and easy to talk to. Followed all the social distancing guidelines.
Billy from Genz-Ryan was fantastic! He listened to my situation and provided multiple options for me to consider. His knowledge and forward thinking helped me pick a solution that met my current and future needs.
Noah F evaluated all of my options and I was pleased that we came up with several different solutions despite the construction challenges and lay out of my home the way it was designed. I also felt that I was given many choices without any pressure and he was a pleasure to do business with for several projects that I had chosen.
Poor communication of pricing resulting in an exuberant amount charged for fixing minor shower head faucets. If you are working with Bill, please, please, please make sure you inquire about specifics related to pricing. Will not do business with Genz-Ryan again.
Tech was great, knowledgeable and honest with what issues are DIY vs what a pro should do. $29 tune-up special can't be beat either. Now I have peace of mind that my A/C will keep my family cool this summer. I'm a happy camper.
Chad O. at Genz Ryan assessed my leaking water heater was due to a cracked tank and needed replacement. He was very helpful and went over all possible options. While installing he not only let my 6 year old son watch but talked with him and explained what he was doing and answered all his questions. (my son was even talking with him about his favorite movies and Chad was chatting right along with him!)
When he left there was zero evidence he was even here other than the shiny new water heater! I'll recommend Genz Ryan and Chad Olson to anyone! Quite simply the best.

The main reason Mike came to our new townhome was to fix our A/C. However when my wife was explaining other mechanical problems he was concerned. With great listening he diagnosed we had a water leak which made our water heater run 24/7. He then did fix the A/C and it is the first time it has worked since we moved in 3 weeks prior.
By not just being concerned to get his job done and get home on time, he discovered that we had an under slab leak. If he had not acted like an all around professional we may not of found it which could have affect many.
Lastly, as a Construction Trades instructor, I value the ability of a person to know their trade but also like Mike to explain it in a format the novice understands. Mike's willingness to go the extra mile today will last long past when we shut down the A/C he fixed and get ready for a long MN winter.

I need to update this short piece of non-fiction: the Bosch boiler they installed had a faulty valve. Genz-Ryan were still on the hook - in writing - for a full parts AND labor warranty. I was skeptical, but the repair was looking to be expensive, so I called them.
Genz-Ryan honored their warranty, covered the parts and labor, and my combi boiler is working fine again. They did right by me and my family, and I need to acknowledge that.
About 3 months ago they made sure I'd received all the receipts from the initial installation.
I believe they've turned it around.
I'll leave the old review below for the sake of history.
You'll notice they said in their reply to this post that "one of our managers will be reaching out to you to talk about your situation and work to fix it." Noah called but to the best of my knowledge, he's not a manager. It's been over a month. There's been no call. Is adding a tag like this to a google review an honest way to do business? Read on for the details:
We had worked with Genz-Ryan in the past and had been impressed.
We needed a new boiler and on the recommendation of our Genz-Ryan HVAC tech, Noah, we decided to get a "top of the line" Bosch combi boiler.
The install cost over $10,000.
I got to see 7 different employees over 4 days, and it took them 5 days to get it working over a period of a week. I had to "deal" with them for 10 consecutive days.
I have made 4 requests for receipts. They came incomplete totaling only half the cost.
I made five requests for the outdoor sensor to be attached to the boiler before getting a response other than "it doesn't need it."
Their automated system asked for customer feedback before the boiler was working or before I had received any receipts for work done doesn't work.
Genz-Ryan told me twice they were certified to install Bosch boilers. I called Bosch. Bosch told me Genz-Ryan is not certified to install Bosch boilers. "I'm sorry sir, but that company is not on our list," the people at Bosch told me.
Before posting this review, I sent it to them asking them to help me conclude it. I got a call from my initial technician, Noah, but there has been no effort on the part of management to acknowledge a problem. I still do not have all the receipts - I am missing the receipts from Joel's visit for half of the total charges.
In order to have some peace of mind, I had to hire another HVAC Bosch certified specialist to come and inspect Genz-Ryan's work.
Everyone is very nice at Genz-Ryan, but this experience adds up to a lack of competence across the board. If you search through the one star ratings, you'll notice the copy/paste response of their "striving for world class customer service." World class? What world are they talking about? Courtesy and thoughtfulness are great attributes but are worthless in the face of such a display of repeated incompetence.

Used Genz Ryan's services for a new furnace and Air Conditioner. The furnace install was not done properly and led to water in our utility room, which required a Genz-Ryan service tech to come to our home at 11:00pm, he resolved the issue. I had concerns about using Genz-Ryan for a new A/C unit we needed, but was assured the install would go smoother, it did not. The first night we operated the A/C unit, we had water again leaking from the unit as well as 1/2 the home was not cooling. After another service tech call at 11:30pm, the problems were rectified. These issues were admittedly Genz-Ryan's fault, due to poor install. The service techs were great, the install guys, in my opinion did a very poor job. In phone conversations with Genz-Ryan regarding the issues, there stance is that they provided fantastic service as they fixed the problems. I disagree. We, as another reviewer mentioned, don't receive call backs when promised. If you're in the market for new HVAC stuff, I'd strongly urge you to look elsewhere.

Our property manager hired this company to give us an estimate for a plumbing repair. The quote was 3x more than the work justified, they pushed warranties and payment plans and we were billed $99 for the trouble of refusing their service. They later returned and performed unauthorized service on our AC unit to the tune of $400 for a recharge without performing any repairs. The notes on the bill were insulting and hostile because "the client" (our tenant, who is not authorized to approve any such work) did not opt to replace the unit entirely. Terrible, overpriced scam peddlers.
I set up an appointment a week and a half ago for 8:00am today. I took time off work to be home by 8:00am. By 8:25am they were not there, so I called to find out when they were coming. They told me the time was from 8:00am-12:00pm but that they were no longer coming today because emergencies came in and they needed to reschedule. They also told me they did not have enough information and wouldn't have been able to come out anyway. I understand that emergencies come up, but you shouldn't bump people who've set up appointments without even notifying them. That isn't a good way to run a business.
I wish I could rate them less that one star... we needed to replace our water shutoff valve. Genz Ryan quoted us over $1,000 to replace one part, which required zero permits! When I asked why, they said because they have to call the city which would take time.
We called the city, who was at our house in an hour with the part, helped us replace it free of charge. All costing us a whopping $87.
I am absolutely sick to my stomach a company could try to charge us so much to do this work... I will never recommend them or work with them again.
Had Billy P and Nate come out and did an incredible job fixing my a/c unit! Nice, intelligent and professional, will definitely be requesting them next time I have issues. Our AC was out after coming back from a week vacation in 90 degree heat. Genz Ryan received a call from me and I m ashamed to say I was not in the best mood. The staff put up with me mad, sad and just worried. I have two special needs kids and they didn t do well in the heat we were in and to come home and have them continue to be in the heat esp after my youngest had a Seizure last night, I was just a mess. Andrea calmed me, empathized with me and just made me feel heard. They sent someone out for me today and right now my AC is fixed. I didn t think companies like this existed any more. They cared about my family , they cared about me and what I had already been through the last few days and wanted to give me one last thing to worry about. Thank you Andrea for being so amazing to me , treating me like a friend (Mom to mom) Thank you to the head guy from customer service, thank you to the tech (Brian) that came out and found the issue immediately and even called for a helper to get it fixed even faster. The technician arrived punctually. He wore a mask and observed all recommended pandemic precautions. He was professional and friendly. We had many questions all of which he answered patiently showing us features of our system and options about repairs. The company dispatcher kept us informed regarding the technician's arrivalval time. This was an ideal repair experience--could not have asked for a better one.
Andrew did a great electrical review of my home. Noted a few small changes that would make our house safer and was able to compete the changes all in one visit. Great service.
Steve was very knowledgeable and listened to our concerns/questions. Provided expert counsel and sage advice and clearly delineated our options.

These guys are crooks. I wish I had done my homework and really dug into reviews before replacing my furnace. I was between a rock and hard place with no heat and a slimy salesman. I was overcharged by least $2,000 and it makes me sick to my stomach. I received an invoice with one line item because to break it down further would reveal how much they are marking prices up. They took advantage of the situation and price gouged me. I will never do business with them again.

I will never do business again with that company. I have absolutely no trust for Genz-Ryan. They did come out to review the issues we have been having with our heating and cooling systems and made suggestions about installing a new one. Their rep suggested an Amana Furnace and Air Conditioning system with humidification and air purification. He called it "a bullet-proof system". I felt that we were pressured into making an immediate decision; that if we decided that day, we were going to to get some additional discounting. We did our research instead and learned about all the possible solutions that exist. Amana furnaces and air conditioners are at the bottom of the barrel, requiring constant repair with parts and labor. We live in a town-home with 1,624 sq. ft. and I anticipated a system costing maybe $7,000 - $9,000 with all the bells and whistles. His price? $20,000.
Tom did a great job. Came on time, explained just what he needed to do and got it finished in a timely manner. Was incredibly upbeat and positive.

In are newly built home we found that we had faulty valves after only two yrs. and had water all over our basement. We were charged $900 to have faulty valves replaced by Genz
Ryan. It has been over a month and I have still been waiting for the customer service manager to refund our money and adjust our remaining faulty valves through Calatlantic homes. This is been a very frustrating process to endure.

Mitch was great he saw the problem with the AC and he was honest about the situation. I knew our AC was old and I needed a new. He said that we could fix it but was going to be expensive. I plan to get a new AC this summer. Overall the service was great and it was my first time calling Genz-Ryan. They will for sure be on my contact list in the future.
Just had my 13 year old A/C inspected, and technician Nick M. did a great job. He looked at the furnace, air exchanger, and A/C unit (inside and out) to make sure everything was in good shape. He gave me some recommendations on some of my aging parts, and how to extend the life on what I own. He was professional and courteous, cleaned up everything when finished, and the Genz-Ryan tune-up went perfect. I would recommend the company for all your inspections needs, furnace or A/C units, and possible replacement when the time comes due.

If you call in, don't leave a message, they won't get back with you. I called in 3 times (during business hours), left 2 messages and they never got back. Then I called in the following day and was told there would be a $289 fee for 'emergency service' that would be only $199 if I waited 1 day and $99 if I waited 2 days. When I pointed out that I had left messages the prior day and thought that waiting until the next day I should only be charged $99, they said there was nothing they could do. Very poor customer service. I'm going elsewhere where they won't gouge me over $100.

Brent the HVAC technician came out and took a gander at my a/c which has never been serviced. It was 20 years old, had almost no refrigerant, and was not worth fixing at the price point. He was able to give me numerous options relating to a minimum bandaid fix, to a full replacement option. I like this company, their work is excellent, their employees are professional and respectful, and they offer good packages on their replacement and repair options. What I also like, is their promptness and efficiency. There's no fart-arsing around: you're called, an appointment is made, the technician arrives, and once an option is agreed upon, they try to get it done asap. I definitely recommend them!
