We received a few quotes from different retailers in the GTA and Gem offers the best value for my entry door replacement. They were very honest and did not try to pressure me into buying at all. So in the end, I went with them and very happy with their service from start to finish.
Looking to replace a cracked front door window frame, stopped into GEM , they gave me a price of $185 which I thought was excessive, so I went to Home Depot window door department & they special ordered the part for $30. I know where I'm NOT going when I need new windows. Rip off. Not really even 1 star.

GEM's Kevin came promptly at 10:00 a.m. put down protective covers on our carpet, and by 12.30 our new doors were installed. They are solid, easily locked, and fit beautifully. He left everything neat as a pin. Great work!
WARNING - save time and hassle of dealing with these amateurs. They ordered the wrong size door and try to put the blame on us meanwhile they never sent anyone to measure the opening. Also, wrong colour was ordered. They took our original french doors with hardware which we wanted to sell privately and never returned it. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THESE AMATEURS.

.I have never had this kinds of work done in any of my houses before, and with winter weather outside I expected a big mess in a two day period. A crew of 3 people came early in the morning, covered the floor of my house and started to work, all I can say is by 6pm they had change 5 windows and 2 patio doors, they did a nice finishing around the windows and cleaned-up everything before leaving. They did an excellent job in half the time and were very polite and helpful. I would recommend them anytime.
Worse experience ever. Don t return calls, never came back to fix the broken windows they put in. Have heard nothing back from them since they did the install. Worse company ever. STAY AWAY. Bad bad bad

I moved to my first Toronto home last summer, and realized that dI needed at least a few new windows. A local contractor recommended gem, and said he has never been disappointed. I called you all and Spiro came and was very professional in addressing my questions and concerns. He said I would be particularly pleased with the stained glass replacement. I was very happy with their product and installation and yes, Spiro was right. I was really pleasantly surprised with the stained glass replacement.
Gem replaced all my windows two years ago. They still look and operate like new. Love the high quality product and price. As far as I remember, the installers were amazing. I have recommended them to family and friends many times in the past.
Shady salesman, production delays, poor communication, questionable practices with our credit card, a hole in our wall and management refuses to take our calls.
From advice at the store through to the installation, the service and attention to detail was excellent. They did a great job cleaning up afterwards as well. Our windows have never looked better.
This firm had done significant work at our home, full window replacement, cladding our wood siding with vinyl, and a great custom piece for the solarium we inherited - we were very happy with their work.
Now, we need service to replace a cracked window and several skylight portions where the seals have gone. I have been trying to get this done since the end of last year! I was patient when they could tell be they couldn't get to it for a period but now they won't even return phone calls.

We recently had a number of our windows replaced. GEM provided execptional service from begining to end.
We gave them our deposit on June 7, 2014. It is now October 2014, still no windows.
We were told the windows would be installed in late July early August. Then in July, we were told "this is a custom window" - really I thought we knew that back in May! Ok, we are willing to go along.
So we were subsequently advised the installation would be the end of August for sure! End of August arrives, any windows? NO. September comes and goes, no calls from GEM - still no windows.
If you are reading this post - you rate them and decide for yourself what the risk is in dealing with this company.
I had received quotes to replace all the windows and 2 patio doors in my 2 story house. I went with Gem as they were a local company and the gentleman who came to measure and plan was pleasant and had been in the business a long time.
There was one single door specifically that we had requested to open to the outside instead of the inside. He agreed it made more sense and so the order was placed based on his plans. We were also convinced to go with a higher end product since there is so much traffic on this door.
Once the door was installed it was noted that the door opens out the wrong way (opens out to the right instead of opening out to the left) This potentially causes a traffic problem and the likelyhood the door will get damaged, or someone would get injured walking into it when it's open and screen is in use.
After many unreturned calls from my contact at Gem, I finally reached one of the owners. He did a personal site visit and agreed the door should open the other direction. He also informed me that a missing screen from a mainfloor window was in his office and it would be brought to me personally within days. After he reviews the plans, the owner came back and said we can replace the door for a propery installed door for almost $6000. He assured me this was a deal he was honouring based on the misunderstanding.
In my opinion this was not a misunderstanding. It was poorly planned and now we have to live with it. After follow up calls about my missing screen, my calls nor the screen have been returned.
We now have to manage with a door that is awkward to open and my kids and guests have walked into many times. A constant reminder of the poor service I got from Gem.

Gem replaced my neighbor's front door two months ago. Seeing how good it looks on them, I followed and also got mine replaced over the weekend. The price was a little higher than I expected since I picked one of the higher end style with a few option. However, the outcome was phenomenal and worth every penny.
I bought windows from Gem about 12 years ago. At the time they were very pleasant to deal with. I guess they wanted to sell me something.. As part of the deal i was offered a lifetime warranty on hardware. For about the last six months i have been trying to get someone out to my house to fix a few minor hardware problem and replace glass with poor seals. Despite assurances from Jim Christopoulos, the Presidents brother and the head of service that something would happen. Nothing has happened. I even offered to pay for service, no one has even set up an appointment. When they want to sell you something all is rosy but wait until you have service issues. You'll regret dealing with these people. Don't believe a word they tell you. They just want your money.
The staff at GEM are true professionals and know their products inside out. They took the time to listen to my specific request and concerns and were able to answer all of my questions to my satisfaction. Installation was flawless.
They have a showroom in the west end of Toronto and it's good to check that out first. They replaced all our windows with energy/efficient windows. We are pleased with the windows and the service since it has been installed 2 years ago!
We contracted them to replace over $80,000 worth of windows for a commercial building. Nearly half a dozen of the windows cracked only months after installation and they refused to do anything about it Stay away, they are not reputable.

Our first experience years ago was ok but this year though we were promised windows in 3 to 4 weeks we waited 8 weeks for them! And even though we told them we had the window hole ready and our contractor waiting for the windows they strung us along promising they'd be ready but they never were, forcing us to physically visit them and ask when they'd be ready?
The salesman couldn't have cared less. His indifference was infuriating, but we were stuck. They are not the only window business in this city so even though they're down the street, I'll take my future business elsewhere. This month we've dealt with tile, flooring, bathroom furniture, contractors and other business and every one of them delivered way more than I expected. And they were pleasant, something GEM was not. Plus the salesman didn't listen, tried to sell me something I didn't want. I had to insist he listen to what I wanted. In short, a nightmare.
1 star for the product. 1 star for the installation. communication and timelines where terrible. 3 months wait turned into 6. wrong size for bay window. Almost one year after placing our order the last screen door and storm door where installed. it was not the storm door we ordered and their invoice was so bare of details that there was no way we could argue about what door we had ordered. good product and good installation. we had to chase down everything else. zero project management, customer service or attention to detail once they have your money. not impressed.
Purchased patio doors 10 ish years ago, about 3 years tago he seals had gone on the windows, today you can barely see out of them re the broken seals. Went into the store over 5 weeks ago and spoke with Jim the owner and asked about getting new windows and have the hardware replaced, he asked for pictures. I sent 6pictures the same day / no call back. Left a message. No call , another message no call. Spoke with his assistant / sent more pictures, still didn t get a call back. Called him again spoke with him for the 4th time he said he call back. Clearly he doesn t want my after tax dollars and I all I wanted was new windows and hardware terrible way to treat a passed customer. All this was over about 5 weeks, strange way to run a business, in retrospect I would have preferred for him to be straight up with me and say he couldn t help me rather than me waste all my time and energy with him.
When we bought the doors originally we walked and bought ones on display in and out in 20 minutes. They where installed within a couple of weeks of purchase and we have always liked the doors I Truly have no clue why he would treat me so disrespectfully but I can t support a company that treats customers this way.
We had our 4 original 1922 windows replaced as well as an upper window for the 1990's. Gem came recommended from 2 neighbors. The windows are beautiful, as is the workmanship. We actually have other trades onsite for different work and the commented as well.
I was in the middle of my home renovation, and the next step was replacing my old windows. I wanted to get fiberglass windows and needed the right company for the job. I got on the phone with Gem Windows. We settled for the wood grain look, and their team came quickly after. The whole job was a bit messy, but they cleaned everything up after finishing the installation. Very happy with the overall experience.
This is the most terrific glass company we know and they did such an amazing job! We ordered glass for windows in our house, paid in full up-front, and were promised 3 weeks delivery time. We ended up waiting for the order for twice as long. After they "arrived", we came by the storage on 5 separate occasions while they were trying to find our missing windows. The windows are still nowhere to be found, so we gave up on these guys and are ordering windows from a different company.

The installation was the best I have ever had. The installers knew their work and did their work in a short time and cleaned up when finished. I got two quotes from GEM and seymour was very professional walkters was great.
I ordered exterior doors and paid the full amount in advance. The doors arrived two weeks late and with a wrong color grid. I was told that the glass would be replaced but that it was best to go ahead and install the doors as is. I followed the instruction, and almost SIX weeks later, I followed up on my order and was told that the glass was ready, so they were just waiting for delivery. During the following THREE weeks I was on the phone and going to the store, back and forth, trying to get my doors finally delivered. During my last trip to the store, the glass was already sitting in their truck, and after that it still took TEN MORE days for them to be finally delivered and installed.
During this whole process, every time I called I was told I would get a call back - that never happened.
I had never dealt with such a slow and inefficient service. None of what was promised to me was delivered on time. I am highly disappointed in my dealings with this company. I definitely don't recommend it to anyone!
Gem did a very good job completing installation at our home. They were punctual, clean and paid attention to detail. Everyone we dealt with was very professional. They cleaned up after they were finished the jobs and explained any issues they had thoroughly.
Recently, we were having a few problems with the hardware/openers and had no difficulty with receiving instructions on how to replace ourselves from the production manager (saving us the $200 service charge) and the lifetime warranty hardware provided to us with no problems.
Gem windows was excellent to deal with. They helped me figure out what the best option was for my for my new kitchen window. The installer was fabulous. Really kind and helpful. They even fixed another window for me at no charge while they were on site. Thanks Gem.
Went to GEMS on recommendation of a friend. Ordered one repair and one complete new window in early April. They dropped the ball on getting the measurements and therefor production order went in very late. Windows installed in Mid-Aug. Then, against my explicit orders, charged my card for final payment before I inspected the install as I was out of town at the time. Product appears to be good quality but customer service very poor.
We have been in need for a new front door that not only suited the character of our home but also our neighbourhood. Our experience with Gem Windows and Doors was fantastic. GEM windows & doors is a very bad place to do business the salespeople are so much in needs of your money they just see people address my experience with gem windows and doors leave me with a lifetime distrust with this company I both a storm door for $923.49 from this company they assure me 6 weeks tops 9.5 weeks later after the door finally reach with the wrong swing the salesman did not take responsibility for is mistake 0n charge me $150 more after I repeatedly tell him when am leaving my house I need my storm door to swing to the right and they give me a left swing door person would not advice any person to do business with gem windows and doors

GEM installed our front door about ten years ago. This past summer the latch wore out and th door know was free spinning. I tried to repair it myself but realized that I needed a new part. I called GEM, described te issue and sent in photos. They dropped off a replacement part free of charge the next day and I installed in myself in about ten minutes. I was surprised that they supplied and delivered the part free of chargers and appreciated that they kept our data on file. I would recommend them to others.
I was looking to deal with them but after reading the owner's responses to the reviews, nevermind. Guy toots his own horn when they are good and never seems apologetic when they are bad and continuously shifts the blame. Text book narcissist.
My wife and I approached Gem to install new five new windows (eleven total within the five openings) across the second story of our home. $8,326 plus tax total. Jim the salesman, and I believe he is also part owner, was very helpful in choosing the windows and he drove by on the installation day. Jim is a nice friendly guy and suits the salesman title. At the end, the installers had broken a lot of the drywall around the two of the openings due to forcing the old windows out as opposed to cutting them out carefully. I did not complain, I did not want the installers get in crap, they were nice guys. I'm very handy and repaired it myself. But there was also a problem with six of the window panels; the number of grids in the windows were not consistent, so it looked off balance from the street. Jim said he would fix it, no problem, but it never happened. He never did get back to me. The two different size grids grew on me and I decided I would just let it be. So by this point, I was pleased, but not overjoyed, so I would put them at 3.5 stars at this point.
So then about 18 months later, I call Jim at Gem because we wanted our whole front door system replaced and a window added, something that I had told him about previously and he said he would certainly do it. And i wanted it done quickly as I was now about to sell the house. So I call and left a message for Jim to call me. And another message, and another message and so on and so on... He never called back, was never available. I went there twice - not in, but leave a message with the reception. No response. I'm thinking that he thinks I want those windows with the mistake from before to be exchanged so he does not want to call now.
I told my wife, lets give him one more chance, or we call another company. This last time I had called from my house phone instead of my cell, which has a different name associated to it, and so the reception, who says he is not in, takes my number and info from the call display and says she will have him call me back... But that's not my name on the call display and not my regular number. Well doesn't Jim now call the next day. I asked him to come by the house and he did. He left with his measurements and said he will call me with a quote and some addresses where he installed some doors. I told him we wanted it ASAP. "No, problem." he says...
I never heard from him again. I was not going to chase him anymore, I was done chasing him and he knew we were soon wanting to sell the house. Business must be good. It was a $6,500 job that I presume he was not interested in as he never followed up. We were not even shopping around. He knew we just wanted him to get it done.
Jim if your reading this, I am disappointed in you.
We had a whole new entryway installed without Gem. And now we have bought another house, we are gutting it. Jim, you are missing out on installing three outside doors including 10 foot sliders, 14 inside doors and about 24 windows.
All you had to do was call me back.
And that readers, is bad customer service.
The windows were installed on time and very professionally. The team worked well together, old windows carefully removed and new ones installed. No mess, a clean job carefully done.
Ordering and consult was seamless to installation. Spiro immediately responded to a few after instal issues and remedied it quickly and made the entire process very easy and to our satisfaction. excellent service.
