Threatened to shut our electricity off after we paid almost $300, said the payments didn't post in time and they don't check their automated payment systems before sending a shut off notice. Made us pay another $250 to keep our electricity. The most unethical company in Eugene.

I find it funny the ones on here complaining are the ones that can't take responsibility for their selves, that's pretty sad people. You can't blame a company for your power getting shut off because YOU didn't pay YOUR bill for almost 3 months. Or for your checks being returned because YOU didn't put in YOUR correct bank account numbers. Get a grip people. I came on here to write that I personally think EWEB is awesome. They have helped my mom several times with her bill, aand any time I've called them, they're always super sweet, empathetic and understanding.

If i could give them negative rating I would. There was an issue with there account not being able to pull payment and they charged me 25$ twice without telling me. Rude customer service no support what so ever. I had tried to pay 3 times and they still charged me 10$ for almost shut off and 25$ for there bank fee. I know its not that much but I work hard for that money. Anything that I have to pay extra is momey taken from my kids.

Mark is a liar. He is the head in charge of eweb and will lie to steal money from you. I called during the summer to close my tab and one of their people said okay we will get that done. The eweb representative never did their job and now im stuck with a bill. Mark lies and said there is no record of my call in the logs. After spending hours recovering my deleted history I finally found my call during July so Mark I hope you burn

a rate increase of 8% is completely unfair and cruel to us on limited fixed incomes, we have all folowed your directions to conserve and use less of our resources and now you want penalize us with another rate increase, your ideas of use less pay more is insane to say the very least, and then to have a meeting tonight at 7:30pm to voice our concerns after you have made your decisions is wastefull let alone wrong, you the commissionlone should pay our rate increase for insane ideas and wasteful use of our utilities

Moving from Washington and new to Eugene this is by far the worst company I have ever encountered with. If we had a different route we would take it, absolutely absurd and ruthless when handling customers. I can t even believe no other company would established themselves to come in and compete against them. They are the worst company, super bad customer service and the worst part is they don t give a damn about service to the community. I can t even Imainge how many other community members are out they being charged ridiculous amounts of money because we have no other option to take our business else where. The owners of this company or COO S or anyone in the higher up take the time to listen to the people of the community and our complaints. They way they speak to us as if we don t even matter and they are better than us. I am so outraged about their customer service, they need better training, better everything! You seriously suck. I moved here for good purposes and now I no longer want to reside in this town knowing I ll have to deal with them the entire time I live here. Get it together Eweb and do a better damn job speaking to us.

i have never lived in a place that had such high rates!!! I freeze to death in my house during winter and my bill is still over $100!!! and i hardly ever turn on my heat pump or even pellet stove. I can't believe it!!! I've talked to people who keeping their place around 70 throughout cold winters have paid over $400 per mo!!! Unbelievable!!!

iI have been an EWEB customer for 48 years and they have done a fantastic job for the most part. energy conservation programs are generous beyond expectations. rates are very reasonable if you look at other locations although that is partly due to being blessed with abundant hydroelectric power. my one gripe is that only 20% of the actual charges on the bill are for usage but go to fixed costs like basic electric fee, basic water fee, stormwater. etc. thank you for being a great partner in the community EWEB and keep up the good work.

I have lived in Eugene now for over a year. First off I live in a mobile home, so the walls are not that thick, but other than that I, (you) can make changes to how you use your power and water. This last winter I put heavy plastic on all my big windows, and I went around to every outlet that was next to an outside wall and added a form cover under the switch plate, that was amazing, no cold air blowing thought them any more.
I am also disabled, so I qualified for some energy assistants. I had to do somethings to help myself and help my house. I will not say how much I got, but to say I pay half my bill and use the credits i got for the other half. I will have credits into the summer..... What a Great program I got into....

I am a new customer to EWEB and had stacked up 3 m...

I am a new customer to EWEB and had stacked up 3 months without a payment. (Shame on me) I had not received a bill from them during this time and mentioned it to my spouse earlier in the week. The next time I get an over due notice so I tell my spouse hey we need to contact them in regards to no bill. They put a door hanger three days later a Friday and it states I have to the end of Monday day to pay $500+ or they will disconnect. I get online over the weekend and make a $250.00 payment and follow this up with a call. (by the way if you request a new password it sends it to your spam filter because it looks like spam and eventually you get locked out of your account until the next day for trying too many times to pay your bill)

On Monday I call and they advise me that $250.00 will not due and unless they get the balance they will shut off my WATER & ELECTRIC! I explain to a customer service rep, three customer service supervisor, and the EWEB commissioner (via email), That I had $250.00 in my saving account and I gave it to you on the spot and that's all I have till I get paid on the 1st. Their response was sorry pay us the balance or we shut you off. Keep in mind I have only been a customer for 4 months at this point. They also advise me that if the services get shut off it will be $50 bucks to reconnect and a deposit of 3x the largest bill aprox. $260.00 x 3 =$780.00 (Thanks to a very cold winter) and I still have to pay the balance! I have seen TV mobsters with less aggressiveness then EWEB. I want to be clear I realized this is all my mistake and it's my responsibility to make the payment. My habits are to sit down with the paper bill and pay them at the beginning of each month and when I don't get a paper bill I don't realize I not paying my debts. My request for good faith grace of 5 days after paying $250.00 upon request was not good enough and I had ended up borrowing from my neighbor.

The moral of this story is mobsters don't just wear suits they wear EWEB uniforms. watch out!

Maybe I should have robbed a bank and got caught and told the news it was to pay my EWEB bill, because if I did not the alternative would be my family without power and water for 5 days as well as paying damn near $1000.00 to restore services!!!

These micro power outages should have never happened in the first place if EWEB actual did their job and trimmed the branches surrounding power lines like they are supposed to. I am so sick of all the issues I have had with EWEB and having no power for the fourth day now is ridiculous. If EWEB is so overwhelmed why not call in for help from other electric companies to restore power? We pay some of the highest water and electric prices in Oregon and even more now with the rates going up this month. I expect more than this EWEB.

Just signed up for EWEB. A $15 Account set-up fee? I've NEVER been charged to get set up an account to get a basic need. Imagine if you had to pay $20 just to enter Albertson's or Safeway. And WTF! They need an emergency contact??? I refused to give them one, and they threatened to make me pay a $215 deposit. I am not going to have a positive relationship with EWEB. You probably won't either.

It's safe to say that EWEB does not measure the ut...

It's safe to say that EWEB does not measure the utilities used by a property and they just throw numbers around. July was our first month with EWEB and our bill was about $146. We thought that that was high but we had been using the air conditioning nearly every day. In August we used the air conditioning roughly the same amount but we dropped the temperature by 2 degrees and our bill went up to about $187. Absurd, but, we learned that keeping the AC at 75 or above is cost efficient and we had it at 73. The AC unit has to work much harder when it's set below 75, or so we were told. We let it go, knowing we had made a mistake. We received the bill for September and it is $184. We have not run the AC since the end of August and have been out of the house more in September than the last two months. We've also been sure to turn off all the electronics when we're done with them. So, knowing the water, wastewater and stormwater amounts are within a couple of dollars of the previous two statements, how was this bill nearly the same amount as our last bill when we haven't been using as much electricity? EWEB doesn't bill based on the utilities used. They throw out a high number that is capable of being covered up. If you can help it, do not use EWEB. EWEB is a poor and disappointing company.

My boyfriend and I, both students, live in a pretty small one bedroom apartment near campus. And holy hell, these EWEB bills are killin' me. Our bills are extremely inconsistent. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just throwing numbers around because our bills make no sense whatsoever. We keep our heat on a low-setting from November to March and turn it off for the rest of the year. In the summer we use even less electricity, with the exception of a small fan we use 24/7 from June to September. We do a good job of using minimal electricity and our bills are still nuts. While they're almost always insanely high for such a tiny place (it's 800 sq. ft.), one month it was $24 and another month it was $80. But then it was $200. WHAT??? How is this possible?! The worst part is the summer! It's well over $150 every month in the summer when we're using no heat and minimal electricity in our tiny apartment! It's infuriating and makes it very hard to budget when our electricity bill is so inconsistent and usually very high. My mom lives in a large four bedroom house on the coast and her electricity bill doesn't even come close to ours. If another power company was in the area I'd switch in a heartbeat. I HATE EWEB.

A little hard to understand why one would have their power cut off for being 20 days late on a bill, but with EWEB it happened. I wasn't even 30 days late, no warning, no door hanger. They wanted to charge the 3 months in advance, I advised them I wasn't even a month late on a bill so a little hard to understand why you need 3 months payment. Pretty sure everything they do would be illegal pretty much everywhere else but Oregon law seems to allow these tiny little criminal fiefdoms to exist out of the purview of the PUC.

awful. online pay is the worst I've ever encountered. Pretty sure they did that on purpose so that people would be more inclined to pay the fee charged for paying over the phone. The execs of EWEB should go walk into traffic.

During record snowfall and numerous power outages ...

During record snowfall and numerous power outages and trees down, their trees fell at their water facility off Hayden bridge in Springfield blocking the road and almost taking out the power line on the other side. One of the trees fell on their fence and out to the road in the county right of way and the other is 5 feet off the shoulder in the right of way and was in the road. They did a poor job clearing the road and left one pitiful lane open on a blind corner. I go and clear the road myself and go back the next day to keep clearing the shoulder and haul off the wood (just as a service and to help our community that apparently they don't), and an eweb dude has the time of day during this disaster to come down from the hill pump facility to tell me to stop, not help because eweb can't "give anything to anyone" (mind you I am clearing 2 big oak trees for free). Super stupid. Maybe I should drag all the wood back into the road and put it back how it was before I helped in the pouring snow and freezing weather.

I am honestly very grateful for the kind customer service I have received recently. After having 2 past due bills and the threat of losing power, the eweb staff was amazingly flexible and understanding and allowed me some time to come up with the money to pay our bills. Thank you so much for working with me and also refunding an accidental overcharge immediately.

EWEB has always been responsive to my various issues. I have had a couple interest-free loans for upgrading windows and putting in a heat pump. They also helped me through a major water line break and refunded some of the resultant high fees. Recently, they sent a wrongly addressed return envelope for my utility payment. They notified me of the mistake and owned up to their responsibility for it. I was not charged a late fee and they offered to refund any fee my bank might charge for cancelling the wayward check. The customer service people I have dealt with have always been pleasant and helpful.

One word. TAXED! And what's makes it even worse is that the EUGENE Water & Electric Board has a mailing address in Vancouver WA. They already put wear and tear on our system from living in Vancouver and working in Portland... now they wanna take over our Public Utilities too?

With all these negative reviews I'm surprised no class action lawsuits have been filed yet.

I've always had a decent experience with EWEB. The only time I had trouble with rates had more to do with the terrible, inefficient wiring in my apartment. But I've always paid on time and they've always returned the favor, waiving fees for the good credit I've had with them. Also I've seen the conditions of their customer service. People are mean to the staff right out of the gate and typically make difficult demands. They've always been nice abs succinct with me.

If you think your electric bills are high now, the legislature is on the brink of passing a mandate for higher renewable energy sources. A little known fact is that in prior years they defined hydro as a non renewable! So with EWEB getting close to 90% of their power from hydro that puts them under the gun to dramatically increase power from "renewable" sources, read higher cost sources. If we keep voting these same legislators in, this is what we get.

They are not equipped to handle any type of emergency. Rude reps giving conflicting info after being without power for 4 days & 3 nights. No communication within their own infrastructure. Conflicting, erroneous & outdated info on Twitter, Facebook & customer service. I called to ask a question on the new fees. The "customer service" representative must have been trained by a lead troll!! She was rude, condescending and MEAN! I'm not sure why. Did you know that the CEO of EWEB pays himself $250,000 a year? You could play golf all day everyday at the most expensive course in the world and still have enough to buy a new car every year. I can only assume the CEO plays at least three rounds of golf a week. Please feel free to correct me if I'm way off base.

So let me get this straight EWEB........ Every time I go online to pay my bill, the last box to fill out is a donation for customer care program? Its almost like you're trying to trick some people into putting an amount in the box. Here's an idea! How about the CEO takes a $100,000 a year pay cut to put towards the customer care program. OH WAIT! Here's a better idea! Take a $150,000 a year pay cut then you wouldn't need the customer care program because people could afford the monthly bill. I bet you could still play three rounds of golf a week and buy that new car every year.

I'm not a huge fan of corporations but EWEB needs to be bought out just for the peoples sake. Springfield's utilities are almost 50% less then ours. Pacific Power PLEASE make a move.

I was surprised to see all the negative ratings. I've had a few mild issues over the years, but for the most part I've had positive experiences and as has been noted, the rates are lower than many if not most of the places I've lived. Let's face it; EWEB has a monopoly on the utilities. We have no choice. That can get to you when something frustrating happens. Myself, I bought a plug in car recently and am enjoying the heck out of avoiding the gas pumps. I use a pellet stove in the Winter and turn the heat off at night and whenever I leave the house. I spend more on vitamins than I do on electricity.

I have lived in multiple states, cities, and countries. I can honestly say that EWEB has got to be the worlds worst utility. Their customer service has got to be the worst I have ever encountered. Their billing rates are always going up, and there is absolutely no accountability for poor decisions I.E. the Seneca deal. If the people at EWEB who made that deal were in the Private sector they would be fired that day for incompetence. There is only one way to fix the gross negligence of EWEB and the board. That is to privatize it and have the private company report to the states utilize board. If it was privatized the Eugene tax payers wouldn't have to fork over the bill for stupid decisions like the Seneca deal. The private firm would have to cover that cost out of pocket since the rates will be fixed and increases would need approval. Then again a private company would be smart enough to never sign that deal in the first place.

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever received next to Comcast. They then tell me that it was my fault for not calling them (which I did while sitting at American Title). Aside from the terrible way I was treated, the billing office cannot complete the account transfer as requested without calling me later in the day. For a publicly owned company, EWEB is a joke. Worse yet is when asking for the managers contact information, I am told that they can provide a first name only due to the fact that they cannot release personal info for employees. I will be contacting management, and filing a formal complaint with Oregon Public Utility Commission since EWEB doesn't take their customers seriously.

It is sickening that this company gets away with charging a premium for service when all they do is cause headaches. I own 2 houses in this area and all I can say is that I wish I could transfer to SUB or Pacific Power. Stay with Springfield Utility Board if you have the choice.

I don t even know where to start. I feel like EWEB is genuinely out to ruin people s lives. I received a bill, and there was a past due amount of a little under $200, so I called the next business day to pay said $200, when the customer service rep told me I owed more than $600 to get my account current and that if I didn t pay by the end of the day they were going shut my services off. I told her I was looking at the bill that I had received just ONE business day ago and it stated I owed $197 last due and $200 for the current cycle. She argued with me, said I had already been turned into collections and transferred me there. This lady also told me the $600 had to be paid by the end of the day but also couldn t tell me where that number was coming from. She suggested I call some churches when I burst into tears crying because there s no way I can pull together that much money in a matter of a few hours. They refused to set up a payment arrangement with me because my job only pays once per month, and stated they felt it would be impossible for me to get current. WHAT THE F*** EWEB. Keep in mind I have made a payment to them every single month. Sometimes it s under what s due, sometimes more and I receive credit, but I ALWAYS pay something towards my account.
This isn t a stand alone event either. A couple of years ago I received a $700 bill for one months services, and they stated it was because that was the average bill for December and they couldn t read the meter and refused to come back and reread.
EWEB alone has some seeking housing outside of Eugene.

My daughter has some mental disabilities. She went and got assistance from LIEHP. She had a late notice and was concerned about losing her power as she has a $2000 Humira shot in her frig. Alden was our customer service rep. She was rude, gave my daughter wrong information then accused my daughter of yelling at her. My daughter explained she was deaf in one ear and had her on speaker. The way Alden spoke and her customer service was AWFUL. I took the phone from my daughter and told her we needed to know if her power was being shut off. (She had said it was in danger of being turned off, I heard the entire conversation.) She became confrontational and replied, "I have told her 3 times it is not!" Which is quite opposite of what she had told us. Alden is definitely not a customer service candidate. When she begin yelling at me I wished her a good day and hung up.

Will give 2 stars because the services were consistent. However, the customer service is less than acceptable. Please fix your website as the "stopping a service" link online leads to a web page that only allows you to START a service. Given that I am unable to accomplish stopping my service on my own, I am forced to call customer service, in which I am informed that nobody is available to assist me. Aside from horrendous prices my biggest complaint is customer service. I was told that they no longer give courtesy reminder hangers . I ve been with Eweb for my entire life and this came as a surprise to me. Mind you I may have had 3? Throughout my life. Never have had power shut off.

So March comes around and I get my power shut off. Their courtesy email went to my junk email folder. I take full responsibility for this as I thought I set up auto pay after moving and it was not. However, they wanted a $900 deposit or a co-signer even after I paid them in full (again first time this has happened).

April comes, I saw the bill and due date. Within 6 days they came and disconnected service again. No email, no nothing. Called and spoke to CS and they stated it wasn t their responsibility. Even though I received no notice. And in addition I have to pay a disconnect & reconnect fee yet again. What the ever loving f& @?????

I feel that because they have no competition they can and do say the most ridiculous things to their customers . I would absolutely not be with them if I had any freedom of choice. Overall terrible customer service and terrible prices. Maybe if they want to focus on the community they should actually treat the community better. May go further than all the PR stunts and volunteer days .

I promise you that I m not a person who typically is unhappy with services. But today was one of my worst days in Eugene. Apparently, we were late paying (we genuinely did not get a notice in the mail, if we HAD gotten that, we would have known and we could have paid). EWEB turned our power off today. We called them to get it turned back on and they said that there will be a $900 deposit... what??? We ended up paying $1,700. Completely broke with nothing now. Courtesy reminders and door hangers are absolutely necessary, especially when it comes to an ELECTRIC BILL! Very unhappy with how they handled this situation, and from reading previous reviews, it s clear that this happens a lot... I understand that you guys feel you can do whatever you want due to there being literally no other electric company in Eugene, but have some empathy! Let people set up payment plans, especially if they re only a few days late! It s not hard to have a little mercy on people. I don t even know what else to say. I m completely in awe at the situation today...

Fraud & rip off. Way overprice, overcharge people & they even shut my power off because they said i was short $38 on my payment last month when i pay them $250 monthly, other than the $38 short i am current & they shut my power off! I wish there's other power company in Eugene because EWEB is fraud & could careless for anyone.

The bill is way too high for never really using anything. I seen someone say that this is an area for low bills. All I can say is that is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I've normally never paid over $100 for water and electric combined, and my bill is always $300 or more here. I'm barely home and barely use any of my utilities, so I know the bills here are a crock of bull.

Always had a good experience w/EWEB. 35+ year user and only good things to say. For a public utility they do a good job and the folks in the field have gone out of their way to help at a couple of our rentals even when it was not necessarily their issue.

Call them to discuss why my bill was double the amount, had bad connection and the lady decided to hang up on me in the middle of the conversation. Very rude and not helpful with my needs and concerns.

Ive had to have eweb for years now and they are terrible. They charge you an outrageous amount compared to SUB, the people working customer service are extremely disrespectful and apparently if I dont pay my bill right now instead of at midnight when I get paid my electricity will be turned off no matter what at 7am even if its paid. This place is a fn joke, its over rated and I think it's a tragedy they are the only company to provide the Eugene area.

I have had a pleasant experience with Eweb in the ...

I have had a pleasant experience with Eweb in the past and especially one time when a woman name Meena or something at the front desk gave me some advice on how to handle my bill because I was struggling as a student. The prices are high but I'm also unfortunately ignorant towards a monopoly on energy because where do I start to understand? However I recently changed my mailing address for business mail that had to be handled in Eugene to a friends house for a few months while I was living in Junction City. Apparently my friend never paid their last bills (not even legally my business right?) and they stuck the couple hundred dollars on my account! I told them I never lived there or agreed to service. Then the guy asked me all these personal questions about where I was staying over the summer. It was inappropriate and now I'm getting ready to send in information and proof about where I was living over the summer so I don't get charged! Apparently anybody who uses the electricity resource for a house(and is stupid enough to want eweb's notices and change mailing addresses to said house) can be charged for outstanding balances? My advice: if you don't have service from eweb just toss them altogether. Don't do the normal thing which is update your mailing address because you DON'T have to agree to service or have your name on the apartment/house lease to be charged extraneous leftovers.

Horrible wait times, along with a poor notice and billing policy. Currently waiting to speak with customer service, who knows how long it will be. Their phone system is tough to hear and sounds like it was recorded in the 70's. Calling about a late payment notice that I got in the mail after moving to a new place. Now they inform me that their billing address has changed, and I should somehow magically know about this and it's my fault as the customer. Really horrible service from our only local utility option. With no notice or care from EWEB it's now up to me to track down payments on their behalf.

I've been living in Eugene and using EWEB for over 10 years. Years ago I might have given EWEB a higher rating. Back then my bill was consistent and reasonably priced. Back then when I made a change in energy usage (either less or more) my bill reflected that. In the last couple years my bill has nearly doubled. I used to pay about $60 a month in the winter and $45 in the summer. Now it's almost always over $100 regardless of the time of the year and regardless of whether or not I use more or less energy. It's insane that I and others have to freeze in the winter in some nearly useless attempt to keep our energy costs from getting out of control. EWEB you really need to take a look at these issues. Too many people are complaining about the same issue.

Not only was the person who initiated my account NOT a surly moron, she THANKED me and WELCOMED me to Eugene. It s amazing to have a PUBLIC utility, as opposed to a Portland-style exploitation factory (read: PGE).

This company robs people by charging unbelievable amounts for electricity and they are the only option in Eugene so they can continue to do so without losing business. My electric bill has reached $399 for a month with three people in a two bedroom and we are only using electricity for a total of five hours in two bedrooms. Nothing is left on while we aren't home which is most of the day yet somehow we are still having increasing monthly bills. We tried to dispute this with EWEB but they said that it is typical to be charged that much for a two bedroom with three residents. Typical? I've never had such expensive electricity in my life. $80 is the highest I usually have had in homes where I used much more electricity through different companies. Something is definitely wrong with this company. May move to Springfield just to get away from this corrupt company.

Paid my electric and water bill.

Paid my electric and water bill.
The clerk/cashier was helpful enough.
Although he seemed not to know the scope of their utility . He made reference to the payment being enough to keep the lights on. When I said "and the toilet , that's important too". He replied " well we can't be sure of that, the apartment complex might be getting power from us to . So they can make that work". Apparently not everyone knows . Your toilet works with water, there is no electricity to it. Wow , train your team eweb. These guys are the face of your business. Yes a money making business, for the people by the people my aspirin.

Eweb is the best utility company I've ever dealt with, and I've lived in two towns in PA, including Philadelphia, as well as a small town in FL. They give you 12 days extension to pay your bill! Phillly shut off our power just bc we were college kids and forgot to pay for just a few days. And they also have other payment programs if you encounter hardship. They won't leave you freezing. That's all that matters to me.

The price for heating 1 small bedroom and turning on a light or two is $350 for 1 month! But other months it's $250 for the same thing. Still way too high. I'm a Eugene native and EWEB is one of the top reasons I'm moving out of the area. Any place will be cheaper. I constantly have to make payment arrangements because the bill is so high. They always talk about financial assistance through the mission. They wouldn't need to do that if they charged what similar utilities charge around the nation. Ridiculous.

This company is crooked. We moved out of our apartment at the end of August and then I get a phone call the day before Christmas eve saying I owe them $200 and it was going to collections if I didn't pay. They've been charging me this whole time for a place I haven't lived in for months. Make sure you save all your confirmation numbers and receipts when you call to end service.
