i have recently been involved in an RTA my insurance company provided this company with details of my accident, whilst very quick to contact me regarding the incident any attempt i make to get in contact with this company ends in being on hold for a very long time, eventually when the receptionist does answers you transferred to and extension that doesnt get answered or lacks a voice mail box!

If you want someone to get you a fair result, Carpenters are not the solicitors for you. They demonstrate no drive to win cases which is a great shame for the company & for their clients.

I had an accident at an unmarked carpark crossroads. Another driver smashed into the side of my car. He didn't see me & I didn't see him. We both arrived at the similar time (I was on the road slightly before him going roughly half his speed). The law states nobody has right of way at unmarked crossroads, so I conceded that neither of us were wrong or right to go. Call me naive, but I didn't think driving slowly through a car park & being hit by a speeding car constitutes dangerous or reckless driving on my behalf (the only reason, according to various law sites someone would be held accountable for an accident at an unmarked crossroad). So I braced myself for a 50/50 result. However , carpenters solicitors (whom I was referred to by General Accident) don't seem to be interested in obtaining a fair result. I advised there was CCTV but, instead of obtaining the footage, they used a handful of stills from the CCTV which had been selected by the opposing solicitors & told me it showed I was at fault. I looked over the stills expecting to feel embarrassed & ashamed that I misjudged the accident so poorly... however, what I saw completely verified my account. I stated I was not happy with their decision to accept liability on my behalf. Even though the stills crucially missed the moments before impact (which would've more aptly demonstrated I was emerged for an ample amount of time to have been observed), it still demonstrated that the other driver was speeding, there were no markings & that I was on the road (though the damage to my car supported that too). I asked what I should do; I got no response, instead they updated my case stating they had closed it. I m am honest person, I didn't claim for whiplash or anything else I was offered &, had I'd sped out in front of him -or had it been me who'd driven my car at speed into someone else's - I'd have completely accepted fault. So I find it difficult to accept the injustice. The other driver sped into a car park, where children frequent & hit almost the middle of my car head on, the driver was the only one in the position to have braked to prevent the accident (I couldn't drive my car sideways to escape nor did I slam my car side-on into the front of his), yet they got of Scott free to keep driving dangerously, thanks to Carpenters.

I was given a settlement, i agreed to accept that, (the solicitior advised me against that) but it was my choice to accept it. accident was over a year ago, solicitor told me we had until 28.12.17 to accept, this was dont in advance of this date, to date, when i email, out of office, when i call no answer, i have left 3 messages, still no money and no answer, makes you wonder if they use our agreed amounts to keep their company going, not very happy, and I will take this further, I will speak with the manager!!!!!

But I was dealing with Anna Maher, who was very pleasant, helped me through all of the process and provided me with updates all the way through, she has been brilliant!

We were hit by another car last year,in June. Our car was written off, a 2012 Mondeo.Quote me happy,and they are a joke,set us up with Carpenters. The other drivers fault which they fully admitted. Carpenters sent me to see a Doctor in July 2019. He recommended some psychological help. I was finally referred,after badgering Carpenters in March this year. More treatments were recommended. All the way through there has been little communication, it has mainly been left to me ring or email to enquire,even before lockdown. I am thoroughly fed up now. The other party's insurer offered to help in the beginning and I really wish I had accepted them. I am no further forward now than I was over a year ago. I can't help wonder how long it takes, it's all been straight forward so why the hold up. Yes I know we are in a pandemic but even prior to that the service has been shocking.

Very pleased with the level of service and professionalism from Carpenters - especially Lee Brown. Communication was always there and he always responded to me in a timely fashion. Although the case dragged on for over a year and eventually went to trial, Lee kept me updated throughout the entire process and always kept me at ease. There were many stages where I simply couldn't be bothered with it anymore and was going to pay Carpenters costs myself just to be rid of it but Lee always kept me informed and kept my mind at rest and eventually, even though the case went to trial, we won and it was worth the wait.
Thanks again for such a great service.

Avoid at all costs!!! I had to send the same correspondence time and time again as it was getting lost in your post department. The first incident being because I did not staple the paperwork together and all you received was my covering letter. I was not aware of this until months after I had sent it when I enquired of the claims progress, which then delayed the claim further. This paperwork was important to me as it was records of my self employed tax. I then had to get the Inland revenue to supply me with new copies to send again only to be lost once more and then be told I needed to get further information sent as this was not enough. Why was I not informed correctly of what was required from the start. The correspondence I received from Carpenters took a month to arrive having noted the date of the letter was a month after I received it.

When I saw the doctor to asses my injuries 10 weeks after the accident. He wanted me to have further treatment. Having informed Carpenters of this, I was told she would get this arranged. I never received any further treatment.

Whenever I rang my solicitors direct line it was never answered, so I had to ring the switchboard and wait in a queue to speak to her. When I sent emails these were not replied to, even though I asked her to. When I did finally speak to her on the phone I found her manner abrupt and unfriendly.

Considering the third party admitted full liability this shouldn't have taken 11 months to resolve.
Judging by the many one star bad reviews on Carpenters website I see I am not the first to complain about the poor standard of service.

It seems to me that you do not do anything about the complaints and have continued the substandard service you provide to your paying customers.

I'm sure that as you have the contract to provide legal protection for Hastings Direct it is of no importance to you to provide the service that your customers rightly deserve.

Having been involved in an accident that was not my fault, being injured and having my car written off was stressful enough with out the added stress of feeling that my solicitor and Carpenters couldn't care less and I had to do all the chasing.

I hope I never have to deal with Carpenter again!

Further to this review I was contacted by carpenters who fully reassured me and offered to give regular updates on my case. Very friendly customer service, very quick to respond to my previous review.

Not impressed so far, the only time you receive communication from them is to tell you another 'Case Handler' will be dealing with your claim. At the last count I am now on my third. You have to chase them for an update which is now increasingly difficult as they haven't responded to my latest e-mail nor is anyone picking up the direct line phone. I wish I had stumbled across these poor reviews before letting them deal with my claim!!

I ve had to do all the chasing to get somewhere but it now still on the medical stage when all the medical has been done? Now the telephone number doesn t work. This is the worst company. My first claim handler was so rude to me as well!
I ve finally got the case moving as I was having no response from my case handler.
The complaint department push the case on more I was told they been waiting for me but when it comes to it. It wasn t me my case handler failed to send the reports to me. I ve sent the forms back so I guess it a waiting game now. I was ask to put a better review on but I m waiting till my case is closed before putting my review on, I ve up the star as the complaint department helped me out.

Bunch of jokers! Spent a fortune on hold, and when someone does finally answer to pass you through to the right person youre on hold again and it just keeps ringing and ringing.
Ask someone to call you back, it never happens. Ask them to correspond through email, it never happens
They must make more money through the phonecalls than their cases.

Awful company. Am sure they might be ok for straight forward whiplash claims. However, should you be in the unfortunate position and have a more complicated claim - avoid like the plague.

I was involved in a hit and run back in February, luckily the drivers reg plate was left at the scene so he was caught. Its now nearly 9 months and I'm still waiting for my compensation to be able to buy myself another car. There was apparently issues with the offending party not responding, however the solicitor I am dealing with has stopped responding to my emails from me asking for an update.
Wouldn't recommend them to anybody, very poor service.

Still waiting for a simple response to our claim for insurance excess and the cost of a couple of new car seats!

Carpenters Law only seemed interested in a case when it was setup as a personal injury claim, when we said that we didn't want to pursue that side of the claim (which they pretty much talked us into doing) we were told to start from scratch with the actual claim because it was easier than transferring the claim internally. But you just couldn't get to speak to someone!

Then, despite saying that we did not want to claim for any injuries, there were appointments booked and mention of costs incurred for not attending them! We didn't go to the appointments, and cancelled them with both Carpenters and the medical Provider to make sure that there was no recourse.

3 months with "LIABILITY_ACCEPTED" sitting there and we're hundreds of pounds out of pocket for a simple case.

I'll update this review once the case is closed, but not feeling any love this far!

Oh my word.......in my personal opinion this is absolutely terrible company with very poor customer service. I have now closed my claim with this company and gone with a different solicitors. They were handling my personal injury claim for a car accident. First of all they sent my medical report from the doctor to the wrong address!!! the claim handler was very rude and didn't reply to my emails. When I signed to say I didn't agree with the claim offered she rang me very off hand saying why have you declined this offer??!! I have had a previous claim a few years ago with a different company and it was settled in the amount of time it has taken them to answer my phone calls..... I would not personally recommend this company. I gave them one star only because it was not possible to rate them any lower, otherwise I would have given them nothing!!!

This is by far the worst solicitors I have come across. My case handler has changed about x4, I ve sent many emails and made calls for an update on my case. They continuously say we will call you back but I have heard nothing!

I had an RTA that was not my faults however, I feel the company are not supporting me. If I have no reply by Monday I will be taking my case elsewhere.

My partner has a claim going through with carpenters and she has nothing but a bad experience with them . The phone number on the top of the letters doesn't work and used all of her minutes trying to call the numbers . She sent letters back to them and a week later she would receive another letter asking for the same one sent back . She has had letters sent that are over 3 weeks old . Very very poor service I would not recommend carpenters to anyone very disappointed in this company

Shocking shocking experience that I am still unfourtently experiencing it's ridiculous they took the reg down wrong that 3 people gave them and thanks to that it's now been almost 7 months and they still don't have a clue where to put my claim and they never respond and now I have wasted over 90 pounds in money ring g these people only to be told who ever is dealing with my case is always busy or never in and when I ask questions like what the hell is going on they get rude as if it's not my right that to ask or even ring about my claim even tho they made the mistake of putting the wrong reg through to mib it's a joke and I suggest any and every insurance company never use these lawyers if they want to maintain good reviews I mean look st there rating and how many people have said the same yet they do nothing to sort there company out a company that deals with this type of stuff and dose not even care about about it's own reputation is not a company that's going to go the extra mile to sort stuff out for you promptly when they won't even tackle the complete lack of professionalism and just a really really terrible attitude all round very very very upset

No wonder the insurance recommend cause that's who they are truly representing.

In October 2014, I was involved in a car accident which left me with whiplash and a written-off car. My legal insurance was with Carpenter's and they did everything to make sure that I was ok since my accident. Thanks to them the other driver admitted it was his fault and I was able to get physio for my injury (they had arranged my examination with an independent doctor) and I also recieved a fair sum to cover the cost for a replacement car. David Waring and his team did an excellent job so much so that I asked my insurers for the same insurance company policy this year. You get what you paid for and I got a great service.

I had previously left a 2 star review however since I had a call from James McConville from customer relations I feel at ease that my case handler is doing all she can, I feel it is worth a 4 star review. My case handler has been brilliant throughout. My main concern was not having a enough updates as I would ve liked.

Would I recommend this company? I would say yes because my main concern has been sorted out promptly

Update 28/11/19: I try my hardest to not be frustrated with this process, one of my main symptoms from my accident is anxiety and it isn t being helped. It has honestly been the worse year for me.
I have had phone calls explaining the process this Temporarily helped and I was grateful for it.
The third party company admits liability 8 weeks ago but no offer from them and radio silence!?
Surely if the third party admits liability they would want everything settled as soon as possible, the whole situation does not make sense... I will not be updating again however it needs to be known how slow and frustrating claims can be!

James gave me regular updates with my case using various forms of communication including email, telephone and letter, for which I was very grateful.
James promptly replied to any contact I made with him.
James was very patient in listening to all my questions and answered them clearly and concisely.
James manner towards me was friendly, professional and polite.
I was very glad James was my case handler as I feel that he showed me the best possible customer service.

I have been with carpenters sorting my car accident claim that happaned in apr 15 but the company I was oringnally with were a nightmare from word go. As the company weee based in south africa and seemed to on very little knowage on uk law on relating too car accident claims. Anyhow the south afican company. Went under and carpenters had to pick up the pieces and a lot of failings were found in my claim and the previous company failled to let me know full picture what was happaning with my claim. Yet to my shock the car that crashed into me the driver was under a protection programe. Aplso I found the police were illegally withholding her insurance details and carpenters on my behalf took the police to court to make them give the details I should of had a year previously. I had a young solcitor whom was helpful but not very knowageable and after 6 mths he left left and now I have a amazing solcitor whom is very professional simpathetic and understanding but what I will say is that carpenters need disability awareness training and understanding of disability law relating people with disabilitys more effectively I was told from first monent I had this new solcitor he never worked with a disabled person relating to a car accident claim before yet he has helped me greatly and very understanding simpathetic. But I simpathise regarding the phone system but I suggest you ask for allocated solcitors phone number as most solcitors at carpenter have allocated phone numbers as the previous solcitor and one I have now has their own numbers so I say to all. Too ask for allocated phone numbers so you dont have togo though the long winded call system processes. I curtainly recomend carpenters and trust them greatly Dan

After being involved in a rta Hastings referred me to this company and I have to say that they are the epitome of why solicitors get a bad rap. My claim has been ongoing for 4 months and I have had no pro-active contact with this company. I have emailed them only twice and both times I have received an unsatisfactory one line sentence. I have heard nothing from my claim. I tried to change solicitor in the early days but was unable to as they had already started to process the claim. I wish I had never listened to my Insurance company and used these. If only I had seen the reviews before. they are always not at the desk, never reply to emails. Carpenters Solicitors were extremely helpful. I was the victim of an accident when driving my car I was hit from behind by another car.
The incident left me shaken and my car was beyond repair. Once Carpenters became involved the process and worry simply went away.
The important thing in any given situation is information and contact, and I can honestly say Scott from Carpenters gave me plenty of both.
Regular contact and useful updates and information on the progress.

Am writing on behalf of my partner paul Steer who Still has an on going case since feb 7th 2020. Lack of communication is shocking in with this company. We have to do all the chasing to get any info with what's happening. Last heard some thing two months ago after again I rang them. Sent to more emails this week asking what's going on...no reply. This is our first time in a crash that was not our fault and the last thing you need is to be messed around by a company that we our paying to help us through our insurance. Been a total nightmare from day one.

My partner and I have been working with Carpenters for well over 3 years in trying to get fair compensation for some devastating life changing injuries that my partner has been left with following an awful non-fault car accident. Starting with the negative: many of the communications we received had typo's and were grammatically incorrect - and in fact on occasion didn't actually make sense - perhaps some of the letters were dictated and were "lost in translation" but given these letters were written from a legal stand point - we weren't that impressed when this happened. We did complain about this.

Now for the positives; my partner's case, especially towards it's conclusion - was handled well and our representative was very personable when we met him. I would definitely recommend this firm to any one going through a personal injury claim.

What a pity I have to give a star at all. Unfortunately it doesn't give an option for a minus. I've decided to share my experience with Carpenters solicitors based in Birkenhead. I've taken the time to read other reviews about Carpenters and am sad that so many clients are suffering the same appalling service as myself. My case was one of many referred to Carpenters in 2015 after Cogent Law ceased trading. To date my case is still ongoing with no real end in sight. I'm constantly with a new 'Legal Adviser' and am hardly ever told of the changeover. I only find out on the rare occasion I get through to my claims department and am put through to someone I've never heard of. Many of my e-mails have been ignored for days and sometimes weeks. A previous claims handler actually complained to me about her heavy case load stating she had over 200 cases to deal with. Whilst I appreciate her predicament, it doesn't particularly make me feel valued as a client, more of an inconvenience really. Many mistakes have been made when processing my claim and I have now taken advise on the matter. The powers that be at Carpenters should hang their heads in shame.

I was struck from the LHS on a roundabout by a vehicle travelling at high speed coming onto the roundabout and I am expected to forfeit 50% of my excess.........what Highway code rule puts me in any way at fault and why are Carpenters so eager to accept 50% liability.......Who is working for who........Carpenters are you working for me or Tesco's ?

APPOLLOGY
It turns out that It was not Carpenters that were pushing for a 50/50 settlement ,it was the third party Insurers . Carpenters were working for me all along and I must say with a outstanding result of a full settlement + a little interest.
Lesson learnt here "it all takes a bit of time , talk to the right people ,be patient and Don't give up".

I would score minus. But obviously I can't. Absolute disgrace of a company. Never reply to contact. Never pick up their phone. Person I was told I deal with has been in touch twice this year. Now 16 months since crash, 2 MRI scans no word of any result on the last one yet. Spelt my name wrong for almost all that time. These were appointed by my insurance company after someone on the wrong side of the road crashed head on to into me. Terrible, terrible, terrible service. Online portal they set you up on for documents and contact never gets replied too. Wonder what they do all day. Probably ignore hundreds of other people.

My claim was dealt with so fast, it was hassle free! I had a non-fault accident in July and was paid 6 weeks later!! I was really pleased with the claim being settled so fast as I had less paper work to do, I found the experience of phone calls to insurance companies and repairers more stressful than dealing with the people at carpenters.
The only reason I haven't given 5* is because I was never able to speak to my solicitor directly, I always spoke to a receptionist or assistant who were very helpful and polite. It was difficult to arrange a time to call, and I did miss a few calls so its not entirely carpenters fault but it would have been easier to talk directly to the solicitor.

Like many I was referred after a vehicle accident by Hastings Direct. Since the start of my claim Ive had extremely poor communication from Carpenters followed by an unreachable phone number which never gets answered. My physio started very promptly (a week after the accident) and my medical report was done quite quickly aswell. However now Ive come to the end of my physio Im being denied further treatment due to need an MRI and consultation with a orthopaedic surgeon all to which I have done and still not recieving my private physio. This is what the 25% fee out of your compensation covers and what you are entitled to. Was told by my case handler therrs nothing they can do until my original medical report expires and they cannot help. So even though i have a bulging disc and nerve root irritation Id be left to suffer if I had not seeked help from the NHS, absoloutely pathetic. When I asked to transfer solicitors I was not sent a "bill" which id be told I needed to pay and when I spoke to a manager they told me thats not the case (conflicting information). You are made to feel like an idiot of Carpenters rather than a client! Just to say they are still pushing for a whiplash claim when I have a spinal injury which has stopped me doing my daily activities and am now on painkillers and neuropathy drugs everyday. AVOID CARPENTERS AT ALL COSTS SEEK YOUR OWN SOLICITOR IF OFFERED ONE BY HASTINGS!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Worse service of my life, rude, arrogant - no escalation process. Failure to book medical examinations in a timely manner has incurred huge delay in my case and loss of finances, 8 case handlers within 6 months. Directors didn't help! After 14 months of dealing with my case have decided they won't be assisting me legally! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I was referred to Carpenters just after my accident was with Hasting direct at the time. My accident I would have thought was an open and shut case I was stationary at a set of traffic lights when a car rounding a corner too fast drifted into my lane and hit me head on. That was over a year ago now and I have no end in sight of the claim either. An offer was made and rejected back in October spoke to my handler at the time and was told I would get a call back once she had tried to get the offer increased (was well below what Carpenters had suggested was a fair offer). I haven't heard from the person handling my case since then. I was contacted and told my case was being handed to a new person for one reason or another and the new handler would call me soon. Waited 2 weeks for that phone call never heard from them so contacted them only to be told its ok the original person would be handling it but she wasn't there to update me and would call me back..... that was over 2 weeks ago now too. I work nights and don't have the time to continually chase a company that is ment to working with me making things easier. I just wish I had seen these reviews before signing up with this company my advise to others would be to look around there must be a more professional team of solicitors out there.

Extremely slow. Still waiting 15 months after car crash for a payment, despite being agreed with the paying insurers a year ago. Definitely do not use this company if your insurance company suggests so. Go to somewhere else. They also charge 25% of the payout, which is expensive compared to other high street solicitors. Please shop around before using them.

Lack of communication and a feeling of just being another number and not a person is unfortunately how it's come across so far, you can phone (0844 number) and stay on hold for half an hour at a time to be told more than likely the person you need in is busy and never get a call back, very little idea whats happening with the case now.

I am totally satisfied with the service I received from Carpenters especially Suzanne McClarney, she was so supportive and helpful that she made my ordeal easier and she gave me the best advice to help me win my case. I am forever grateful to them and would highly recommend Carpenters.

CHANGE SOLICITOR NOW! Worst service ever. Nobody contacts you to let you know what's happening with your case. After a year of waiting for my injury claim I still havent received a penny for a basic whip lash claim. I've now had to attend two medicals and wait over 2 months for reports that should take 4-6 weeks. I've now been through 5 case handlers and eveytime you phone to speak to your case handler they are not available. They don't even deserve 1 star out of 5

I had my accident on July 2015 2 years and 3 months ago,since then it's been a cat and mouse chase I have to call and ask what's going on or nothing will progress, emails often ignored and I've had 3 agents dealing with the case so far and only one of them was determined to give a good service while dealing with me, appointments take months to get booked, it's really been a depressing 2 years with carpenters
The service often is run like there's only 10 agents in the company dealing with a 1000 claims.

Very laid back attitude, poor levels of communication, they request the same piece of information several times (clearly there is a lack of communication), you're communicating with three/ four different people over the same issue. Very disorganised. Also... they work with Tesco Car Insurance, so if you have an accident Tesco will hand it over to Carpenters.

Absolutely shocking service. Slow responses if i even get one. Its been nearly 2 years and still no resolution in sight. Case handler is Dominic something who is snappy on messages and claims he has replied when he hasnt. Case is still marked as waiting for medical appointment when this was completed over a year ago. Shocking service, never get replies and getting nowhere in what should be a clear cut case. Contacting the customer service department and financial ombudsman to put formal complaints in. AVOID.

Since writing the below review I have to be fair to Carpenters, in that they have taken on my case without the use of their 'My Claim' electronic system and dealt with my very professionally. They have been prompt, polite and helpful. If given the option of not using the 'My Claim' system was more easy to switch back to I would have no hesitation in recommending Carpenters. They are very good at dealing person to person. I have therefore changed the review from one star to four stars. I believe it is important to credit improved performance and credit is certainly due to Carpenters here. Thank you.

Carpenters use on online My Claim system to track the progress of your claim. It doesn't work. Using their online help system fails to fix the problem. When I phoned up they also couldn't fix the problem. Despite this they said I had to keep using the system and couldn't opt-out of it, even though they knew it didn't work. The call handler (in a polite voice) blocked all attempts and requests made by me request a simple postage or email approach to communication. She refused to forward my call to a manager to assist me and was also reluctant to give me the details of how to complain. I will advise my insurance company that Carpenters are not customer friendly. I would be surprised if this makes a difference. I am not usually of a complaining nature but Carpenters give you no choice. Very poor.
