After having two children, I knew when I was about...
After having two children, I knew when I was about to have a baby. Keep in mind, I had them naturally, with ZERO help from epidurals. So one would think, "Yep, she might know when she's about to have a baby because, well, she's been there before without drugs, right?" If you're a logical person, you would say yes. But apparently NOT if you are one of the "medical professionals" who work at Baylor Scott and White at Hillcrest in Waco, TX. SMH. My husband and myself were sent to triage on the labor and delivery ward. I was in pain and begging for assistance and help. The nurse came in, checked me, and said I was 3.5. And that she would come back in an hour. I then begged for them to admit me as my contractions were 4.5 min apart from one another and she said, "Well, the physician just wants to be sure that you're actually in labor." My husband then said, "I've seen her this way before and I'm pretty sure she's in labor." My TRIAGE nurse then told me to press the red button if I needed anything or otherwise they would check on me in an hour. 20 minutes pass and I am screaming at my husband to help me and that something's wrong as I was transitionin into labor! I pound on the red button as my husband paces in the room for a bit and then goes into the hallway to get someone. Next comes my nurse who checks me and I guess I was too difficult to read how effaced I was accurately who then calls in the head nurse who checks me. My triage nurse then tells me, "Well it looks like you've just landed yourself a room in labor and delivery!" All happy and smiles. I was then moved to the labor and delivery room and was asked if I could move from the bed that I had been on into the bed I was to be in to have my third son when my contraction stopped. I couldn't move, because my contractions wouldn't stop. They then physically moved me, correctly (the first time I felt they did something correctly in the past 4 hrs.), on to the l&d bed. Someone else came in to place an I.V. in my arm and while she was trying to place one, my body started to have our son. I could not stop. No doctor in our labor and delivery room that I had had the honor to reside in for less than 5 min., was present. My son was born and delivered, I guess, by a nurse. Who later joked, "Well, I'm glad I didn't send you away because you would've had that baby in the parking lot!" And yes, I was billed by a doctor who was NOT present at my sons birth, only afterwards. JUST THINK, who would have delivered my son if the nurse would have came back in an HOUR vs. 20 min. when I was pressing the nurse button to check on me???? Right, my husband, who has ZERO medical experience. Thanks for nothing and way to make what's supposed to be one of the most beautiful experiences of my life one of the worst ones, Baylor Scott and White at Hillcrest. Love, an educated mother.
P.S. Hillcrest, please spare me the generic response to my negative review of your patient care. I've already spoken with everyone at your patient relations or what have you with ZERO results. Just trying to inform others that this place is nick - named a special name in central Texas for a reason.
