I go to the Lupus Clinic and the Doctor I have NEVER remembers me I have been going here WELL over a year. I feel he DISREGARDS my issues due to I don't have health insurance and this is where you have to go when you have NO insurance. He rushes through my appointment NEVER listening to how I really feel just prescribed meds and a 4 month appointment. I now possibly may have kidney disease due to my lupus. He told me it was inactive but went to the eye center at the same hospital and they said my lupus is VERY ACTIVE. I have eye damage caused by lupus. They did blood work also at the eye center. So how did they see it and the doctor at the Lupus Clinic said I was doing GREAT???? YEAH .... and they take my blood work also so did he even test my blood or DISGARD it and just said I was OK to get me out of his office?? The Lupus Clinic is AWFUL AND VERY IMPERSONAL. The Eye Center is excellent communication is GREAT they take the time to explain EVERY procedure to you.

We were previously with Cornerstone: we had excellent care and it was generally easy to deal with the insurance and billing end of things. Then Wake Forest Baptist Health bought them out. While we had the same providers, their Billing is absolutely inept. They cannot deal with dual insurance situations. And when my spouse had an car accident and our car insurance stepped in, it was an absolute nightmare. No other medical practice was this horrible. Cone, the EMS service, and others all dealt with our insurer (and gee, they were glad to get paid top dollar). But WF has showed no understanding and no willingness to work with us... even though they are getting paid. I will miss the care but there are other doctors and I won't have to deal with this insanity. (Arrgh, and it is even worse as I have a primary coverage at work and Medicare, and Wake has consistently overcharged me.) Basically their complaint department will do nothing for you. STAY AWAY FROM WAKE FOREST BAPTIST HEALTH there are other great doctors.

Due to kidney issues for the last 3 yrs I have resided in novant for a few 5-6 day stays and several emergency room visits there and at moses cone affliliated hospitals and hole in the wall hospital elsewhere. Yes when i went to Wake I did wait over 4 hrs but I was almost immediately admitted to Wake Forest Hospital and even in the emergency room I seen more doctors than you ever see anywhere else and you dont get a tums without seeing a doc 24 hrs within 20 mins the attention to the individual and their medical history and how to treat their condition and them better is a major difference. I didnt get much rest bc the actaul doctors come by all the time but everywhere esle ive been you feel like you are not the priority you are a nuisence on the other end of a oager to be answered sometime later with a nurse visit. They are really accepting to questions and always ask if you have any and never talked down to me. So you may complain about emergency room wait but they get right to the bottom of it as soon as they can get you back there and as opposed to a week stay i was able to leave in 3 days and be with my daughter in much better condition than the times I left novant after a week. If you want emergency room novant is a good choice but especially if you know you have a long term condition with unsuccessful or failed treatments I would not hesitate to wait for as long as it took. I have my first outpatient appointment with their nephrologist today.

My mother was a patient at this hospital. I also was a patient in 2017 i had back surgery an the care team that cared for me was a great group of people. I was hospitalized there for three months. I went in with very bad back pain I didn't know what was going on.but they immediately got down to the bottom of what was causing the pain,an immediately we decided that surgery was the best option to releave it. I went into surgery that night an Dr.Hart was the head surgeon. Im so happy to say the pain is gone an i feel so much better. Thank you Dr.Hart an everyone else who took very good care of me for those three months.

Professional, attentive, knowledgeable, caring staff in each of the many different departments I have visited and for the multiple surgeries I have had here recently. Had inpatient stays in the new Cancer Center and was extremely pleased at how quickly the medications were dispensed from the pharmacy and into the nurses hands and into mine. I have stayed in many local hospitals and it sometimes took days before my medications were on schedule and by then it was time to leave! There is state of the art equipment, supplies and I took comfort in knowing that the departments worked well together in transitioning referrals and follow ups. A few things that really stood out besides the complete control of medications with the pharmacy I wanted to note. One was how well prepared the doctors were of your medical case by the time you saw them. They had it committed to memory with no flipping of charts or fumbling of dates. It was astounding to me how one doctor referenced facts from over 30 years ago in my medical history that became important in the diagnosis of my symptoms. The other is the meals. You are given a "Room Service" menu and are free to order your meals at YOUR convenience and order the items you want, within the constraints of the diet your doctor ordered. So when you call to order your meal, they assist you and the choices were endless. It was wonderful to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, ethnic foods, and comfort foods when you felt like eating. Even though it is a huge complex and more doctors and staff in hallways than patients and families, it doesn't feel too clinical, yet it was extremely clean. Worth the drive in my opinion for quality EVERYTHING regarding your health.

They nearly killed my husband!

They nearly killed my husband!
After a successful surgery on Thursday to remove a carcinoid tumor in his chest due to Cushing disease, he was discharged on Saturday midday. By Saturday evening we were in the ED twice - first for abdominal pain, later for back pain. He could not eat or drink. All they did was to give him pain meds, the first visit they also did an IV for fluids. We went home on Monday, still not eating or drinking, still in pain. 2 more visits to the local ED before the hospitalist said something was going on. Called the ED at Baptist only to be told the hydrate him and send him home. They refused to go further or take him back.
He then called Forsyth Medical Center which agreed to take him. One test at Forsyth confirmed he was in adrenal crisis. The endocrinologist he was seeing never saw him after his surgery, even though knowing for a long time the tumor was pumping cortisol into his body. His adrenal glands were not working and no one tested his cortisol level, even though they were taking blood.
Come to find out some symptoms of adrenal crisis is back and abdominal (and leg) pain and it is deadly.

Do you think a hospital should turn you away when ...

Do you think a hospital should turn you away when you need lung cancer surgery? I personally feel with the hospital being a non profit trauma center, should turn no one away....period

Baptist Hospital turned me away on January 18, 2019, because I could not come up with $4,160, before the surgery on Jan. 24. They just canceled my surgery and I had to wait to file my taxes in order to apply for charity care. The financial assistant who turned me away sat and cried with me.

This really caused me so much unnecessary stress and a lot of other issues. I lost a lot of weight from worrying how I was going to get the money to save my life. Not to mention I have an abdominal aorta aneurysm which can grow if under a lot of stress. Plus the lung cancer is growing at one millimeter a month.

I just pray after I have my say with higher ups at Baptist Hospital - the policy will change.

No one needs to endure the pain, stress, emotional anguish, etc. as i have for almost a month worrying how I was going to get the money to have this surgery and save my life.

What is your take on hospitals turning people away if they can not pay at the time of services, if it means saving their life?

Big big THANK YOU to the Burn Unit and the staff in 10 north. Spent 3 days in BU ICU and 3 days on the floor. While the hospital has some issues these nurses from charge to regular to student you couldn't be better. All the support people on that floor are warm and caring. I thank each and every one of you. Baptist Hospital Psychiatry will stonewall you if they don't want to provide service. No one will help from Baptist to move the paperwork so my son can get an appointment. Six weeks and no followup. Then I am told it will be another four weeks. So, if Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC doesn't want you, you will not get an appointment. Do you think it is because my son is on Medicaid "ExtraHelp"? I sure do.
Bottom line is Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC and the Psychiatry Department are denying service by systematically screening out those they don't want to care for that are on Medicaid.

I want to cry just writing this review. This was the absolute worst hospital experience I've ever had in my life. I had heart surgery there on the 3rd. The staff is horrible. Except for 1 nurse the day time nurse while I was there. The room was filthy. Still had old dirty linens from patient before me in the room. Bathroom floor had blood on it toiletries opened. I was a HEART PATIENT pushed the called button for chest pain after 10 mins my husband had to go get somebody. Then took them another 10 mins to locate an EKG machine. The kept confusing my meds. The day time PA was rude! Horrible place. I don't about the other floors but room the floor with room 772 in the Ardmore is AWFUL.

My mother has had a cancer procedure and is now cancer free, we are grateful and blessed. Four months after this procedure we had an emergency admittance and she was a patient for 22 days. We are home now are once again truly blessed and very thankful. Both times the experiences from the health care in them is facility was totally unacceptable, I have never seen health care so unprofessional, and so many employees who are just there for the pay check, and there were some I have no idea why they were there. There were a hand full of employees that were sincere and really knew what was going on and actually applied their knowledge for the proper health care for my mother. If any future procedures are needed in the future we will not be returning to this facility if at all possible.

My mother was recently transferred from Forsyth Hospital to Baptist. Her illness was very difficult to determine and turned out to be an advance case of ALS. The difference in the care , timeliness, and bedside manner of all involved was astounding. Baptist staff were to a person caring and professional with both the patient and the family. They carried out their mission with a sense of urgency we did not see at the other hospital. My sweet mother passed away on 9/5/2013 but I will always remember how amazingly well her and her family were cared for in this institution. Thanks to the doctors, nurses, and tech for all you do.

My experience was not with the hospital but at a doctors office on Shepard drive the receptionist. At the front desk of neurology window. 1 heavyset. With glasses. Was rude and very. Unprofessional. At her job. Was. Doing what doctor. Told me to do. And got treated. This. Way. People. At novant....much nicer. She. Needs. To be working by herself. Not dealing. With. Public. Have to go back. In 3 months. Will not. Go. To her. Window. My. Understanding. She. Has. Done this. Before. Nothing. Has. Been done

Checked into the ER on 10/08/2018 and had to wait 4 1/2 hours, in severe pain and could not sit...No compassion from staff when I asked if they could find me a place to lie down. They said lie down in a chair which had arms. Can you believe that? It was cold in the ER and I had to stand for the entire time. It was 2 AM before I was sent to a room. Biggest nightmare ever experienced. The entire time was a disaster. No explanation from anyone of the diagnosis. NEVER AGAIN...I'll drive to DUKE before returning to this Hospital. Sent correspondence to Patient Relations but no satisfactory explanation. Don't patronize this HOSPITAL.

I had a great experience. The room was clean and quiet, the staff was personable and attentive, not slow. Even the food was good. I went in for a severe Multiple Sclerosis attack. I left in much better condition. That s all I hoped for. I see complaints that sound like they re expecting a resort hotel. This is a good HOSPITAL.

I have had multiple negative, unorganized, dysfunctional experiences involving Baptist over the past 3 years since arriving here. Very disappointing. I also don't understand how they can refer to themselves as a "magnet facility," when all of the nurses I have dealt with have not only not had their bachelor's degrees in nursing, but were LPNs instead of RNs. I think the doctors are mostly OK here, but I have had erroneous information entered into my medical chart, records lost, etc. by the office staff at several different specialty locations. I was also supposed to have a surgery booked that the office manager dropped the ball on and never scheduled. The billing department also billed me incorrectly for $500 for something that was clearly covered by my insurance, and then the refund took forever to receive. Once you ACTUALLY get to speak to an MD, most of them seem to be fine, but good luck getting past the gatekeepers. Also, incredibly slow.

I am so disappointed with this hospital. The sad thing is back in 1986 my grandfather had double bypass heart surgery and it was awesome to him recover as quickly as he did from that major surgery, and to see it digress as to what it is today.

On the other hand, my fiance has nothing but problems with doctors not communicating with her or nurses making false accusations due to their non communicative skills. Living 170 miles from here one would think that my fiances specialist would have some sort of communication with this hospital but no that is too difficult. I cannot count the wasted appointments the insinuations that are made not to mention do not get your medication from the hospital pharmacy and then inadvertently have to be admitted to the hospital otherwise half of your medication will be missing when you get it back from being locked and secured.

Save yourself and search for somewhere else to get your medical care.

ATTN: Labor & Delivery-100% satisfaction! I have had 4 children, first three at a different place...I decided to try wake because of the alternative rooms as I wanted an epidural free birth which I felt at the other place was not an option, I felt more of a burden there. HERE...WOW! Everyone was completely on board with my decision and supported me through it all, it was the best experience I have ever had I can not thank this team of nurses and midwives enough! From the time I arrived until I left, I was heard and I felt like I finally had a voice in my birth! The rooms are INCREDIBLE, they did intermittent monitoring (this was completely amazing I am extremely grateful I wasn t forced to be hooked up to a machine during my birth!) I was able to move around and do what my body wanted /needed to get my beautiful baby boy out! The nurses were so amazing doing all they could to help me massaging my back rubbing my hair getting me wet cloths for my head/neck! Aftercare was also just as amazing...i was able to hold my baby skin to skin immediately and keep him for as long as I wanted. there no rush to do all the other stuff! I am going to specifically name the wonderful people involved in my special birth because they were that great! I give a special thanks to Kim Fleming, CNM. Kasey Sprinkle, RN. Leeann Carpenter, RN. Scarlett Adams, NA. Zelvia F, RN. Christie Laney, RN. No question this is the BEST place hands down to have your baby! God Bless this place!

My father was seen in the ED at winston salem today. The staff were kind and concerned about my father s needs. The leader Dr. explained thing on a level anyone could understand. She stopped by to follow up on my dad and ask if I had questions. The nurses were awesome kind and professional. I especially appreciated Larry the housekeeper that brought me a chair and made sure the area was clean. Baptist ED have a wonderful team. We have had 5 ED visits and 5 admissions this year and I feel confident with the care given to my dad when I was not allow to stay with him. I highly recommend this facility.

Thought I would get the care that was advertised by a lot of people but I was so wrong. The P.A. didn't have a care one for my condition. Tried to show him MRI but he didn't want to see it cause he ask just why I was here and couldn't understand why my ruptured disc was causing me pain. And didn't want to help me just send me home in extreme pain with numbness in my back and right leg. When I told him the ER in Boone NC said that they had no specialist and that they would have to send me here anyway he questioned me not believing what I was saying. And the room I was in was the nastiest room I have ever been in with hair and scum buildup in every corner. Stay away from this ER!!

I was with my mother in the Cancer Center and her treatment was absolutely top-notch. Incredibly thankful that we took her here to work with Dr. Wudel. I see why it's one of the top ranked hospitals in the country.

I have been battling cancer for 16 months. I've stayed in this hospital for a total 11 weeks for treatments. The nurses and physicians were very attentive to my needs thru and thru. That's why this facility is one of the top hospital in the country.

This is a very old review. But I d like people to know. In 2001, my child s pediatrician sent us to the ER due to him having an illness with neurologic changes. He suddenly became ill with vomiting and was unable to sit up or support his body at all. He sent us there for evaluation. He had a head CT which was ok and neurology diagnosed him with inflammation of the cerebellum. He was discharged home. He became worse through the night and we drove to the local ER with my son limp in my arms. As a nurse practitioner I honestly thought that he wasn t going to survive the ride to the hospital. At the local ER, I heard the physician talking on the phone to the neurology physician. They would not accept him back as a transfer because there was nothing they could do for him (because it was viral in their opinion). We went to duke and he was immediately admitted with further test including an MRI of the brain that showed an abnormality. He was there 4-5 days and at that point, I assumed he d make a full recovery. He did not. He had inflammation on the brain that contributed to him being mentally handicapped. His life will never be normal. Working in the medical field as a nurse practitioner I know medical care is not perfect. I interpreted their refusal to accept and admit this infant back as blatant arrogance that may not have caused, but contributed to my child s lifelong disability. Through the years I ve often wished I could sit down with the neurologist from that night and tell them what an impact their lack of care had on our lives.

The doctors were awsome at figuring out quickly that my son's body bacteria was causing immediate paralysis because ofswelling on the brain. PRAISE GOD!!!!!They have saved his life!!!! He has movement now! Totally recommend this hospital. I know we will come back if needs to be.

The Billing and Finance Department is a Total Train Wreck! I love how Wake breaks all their own policy and procedures when it comes to your billing yet when its wrong you basically need an act of Congress to fix it. They have at times just made up a bill hoping I would pay it...Well they don't know who they are dealing with! Yup we had over 980 K in hospital bills last year and I kept track of all of them.
The latest dilemma is they will not put a bill that should have been for OPT out of insurance since our insurance will no longer cover Wake! But nope they refuse and expect me to pay more than double what any insurance company would be willing to pay. I have never worked with a more difficult facility in Healthcare that claim they care about people. I realize this is a teaching Hospital but for Pete's sake I have a real job I shouldn't have to teach you people how to do their job!

I dont understand why get into the medical field if you dont want to deal with or help people. I have never in my life been around some of the most hate filled people that are employees of this hospital. Everybody has a bad day, but these people are miserable. They treat you as if that cannot believe they have to waste their time on you. The doctors are errogant and lazy. They dont even try to investigate the patient. They look at a few symptoms and think they know exactly what it is you have going on. They toss you a few meds and push you out the door bc if you are laying in their bed and dont have some crazy disease that'll make them money. You are wasting their time. Its as bad as restaurant now (filling a bed.. constant rotation.
My drama didnt happen til after i left. I started getting bills, i started calling them tryin to pay it, they leave you on hold for hrs at a time. DO NOT LEAVE A MSG and think they call you back. Oh no.. i just got a letter from a collection agency ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME! Ill die next time before i got to this hospital.

I had a paralyzed diaphragm which was 6 to 8 rib into my lungs and makes me short of breath. Dr. Lata did the surgery and Dr. Namen is who I see with a whole bunch of other doctors and nurses. But everyone of them has been great I had a choice to go somewhere else for my pulmonary rehab therapy but the people here are the best. Connie,Bill,Tony, and Sheril are all great people a great place to have pulmonary rehab therapy. Now I am trying to get some stuff together and hope and pray that they will help with my bill. I am finally on SSD but after everything comes out especially the cobra insurance to make sure at least the insurance pays it's part of hospital bill because I don't have much left after taking all my other bills out.

I was transferred from another hospital to Wake in Oct. During my 29 day stay there I went through hell. Finally have a tumor removed and was sent home. Only to end up right back in there not one time, but 3 other times. Each time they allowed me to be released I ended up in worse shape than when I went in there the first time. Even came home a week ago today after being released, and was in the ER within less than 12 hours because of a blood infection that Wakes staff sent me home with. Only to be transferred again, but I flat out refused to go back to WFBH again. Thank the lord Dr at CRMH got infection cleared up and I'm looking an feeling a lot better than before. I would NOT recommend Wake to anyone for medical treatment of any kind!!!

I am sick of calling Conover N.C. office and having to wait for 15 to 20 minutes to make an appointment. This happens all the time. Also when my doctor moved there from Taylorsville I waited in waiting room for 40 minutes for lab work . I finally got up and ask the two ladies setting behind the desk if I had been forgotten. She replied you just go on back for lab work NO one told me that so I told my doctor (Dr.Kimberly Vass Eudy) they need to put up a sign about lab work. Nothing has changed in over a year on making appointmentsure or about lab work. Incompetent people working in check in and check out!

This has been the worst experience. My accident was horrible in it's self. Then i go to tho s trauma center. I have never been so disrespected in all my life. Had to have a chest tube due to collapsed lung. Took them over an hour cause the kept going in and out of the room. Using same gloves from room to room. i know this cause my husband was outside the door. Had a snot nose resident to tell me to get over it. The customer service people are just as rude. I will never go back. If anyone in my family has to go to a trauma center, they WILL not go there.

Needless to say, this hospital is not what I expect nor is it what I have heard "great" things about. My grandmother is here because she had a stroke and not only was she not hooked up to an IV for the longest time but a very sparky nurse was extremely rude to my sister who also posted a necessary review which got deleted for some reason. This place is unacceptable and I won't be bringing my loved ones here if they're ever in crisis. Also, we waited over a day for MRI results which I feel was ridiculous and uncalled for. Please, take your loved ones or yourself elsewhere.

I have had a few experiences here at wake forest. My mother in law was a patient last year. She received great care as long as she was on a unit such as ICU or the cancer unit. But once on a floor the care was not as good. Late getting breakfast or cleaning her up. If a family member had not been with her at all times care would not have been given. My daughter in laws farger is there now. He was diagnosed with GBS. He can not move. She had to leave him to come home to take care of her children. He was moved to the floor out of the unit. It is now 1115 and he still has not had breakfast or been cleaned. He is wanting to leave. She is upset. Great doctors but poor floor care. This is 2 bad experiences with care on the floor

My brother was just discharged from the 10th floor after major surgery and he was there for 6 days no bath, he needed assistance he was unable to walk to bathroom no one helped him brush his teeth. No linens changed during his stay. Gus wife came in at noon and found a cup of pills in his hand he did not know where they came from or who gave them to him she asked the nurse and she said they were his morning meds from earlier. Families not being to stay with the patient who could help them, because of COVID-19, I understand but then you are the ones that have been trusted to take care of them. I am a nurse on the front lines, and understand the stress of the times but this is negligence.

DISGUSTING, DEPLORABLE AND EXTREMELY UNIMPRESSIVE ER DEPARTMENT. RUDE AND INCOMPETENT STAFF. AN ABSOLUYE NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE MY FAMILY IS STILL GOING THROUGH.I recently just left a very long and detailed 1 star review of my experience at Baptist and within 5 minutes it had been removed. This hospital is obviously too concerned with their star rating on Google than actually doing thier job and taking care of patients. AVOID THIS HELLHOLE/DEATH TRAP AT ALL COST. DO NOT BELIEVE THE FAKE 5 STAR REVIEWS. ANYTHING ABOVE 2 STARS, DO NOT BELIEVE IT.

This hospital is very slow. I went to this hospital this evening with my mother, and some of the people that work here seem like they are in a land of their own. A lot of the people waiting to be seen were nicer than the staff. Some doctors here need to work on their bedside manner and some of the triage people here really need to work on their professional character. I will say that Laderrica(I think I spelled that correctly) who is a trauma nurse is awesome. She is very honest and straightforward. She is caring and kind. You can tell she doesn't work at this hospital to collect a paycheck. There was a medical student there today who was awesome named Ken McCollough. Very nice and understanding. His bedside manner was out of this world. He lets the patient speak without cutting them off. He is another person that made my mother's hospital visit great. Without the outstandingly, great, awesome service of Laderrica and Ken, I would have liked to rated this hospital with one star. These two have 10-star service and skills, but because of how the hospital is operated, and the rude staff, I will give it one star.

The doctors and staff are great! Everything about my time there was great! However, I received my bill for the service and it was due within one week. As I tried to pay it (every day for a week) but the activation code was inactive and no one would answer or return my calls. Billing department was TERRIBLE!!

Went with my niece to WFBH ER on Thursday January 23rd. I have not been to ER area since 2013. Although the ER was under construction I found it to be understaffed and dirty. The waiting room was full and the sitting area seemed small. There were 2 ladies working at the reception desk. They seemed stressed and unhappy. I honestly understand as I would hate to have had their job that particular night.

The ER area itself was overcrowded with patients. There were many makeshift rooms separated by curtains. As an observer, I noticed patients had no privacy. I felt as if I was in a run downed, poor, inner city hospital which had no funding. If you live in the WS area you know WFBH has money to do better.
The area my niece was in had medical supplies / used / trash on the floor. One nurse had a mask on. My niece overheard a very loud conversation this nurse had with a staff member. The nurse was angry, stating she was being forced to work with a 101 degree temperature. She was loud with her talk and dropped the F bomb many times.
My doctor is a WFBH doctor and I love her. I understand the ER is no pie job. However, I expect a better patient / customer experience.

When I finally got home, I took a long hot shower. I felt as if I brought home every germ from the ER. I am not sure if my review even matters to the Administration at WFBH. However, please know I blame you.

ADMINISTRATION sets the tone for staff The workers need a better environment to work in. Customers deserve a better patient experience. I hope your customer service improves.

This is perhaps the most inefficient medical facility in the country. Patients are of no concern to the administrators at Wake Forest Baptist. Appointments are piled on top of each other as all processes are optimized to maximize billable time to the hospital s perceived most valuable assets the doctors while no concern whatsoever is given to the patients, who as the hospital s customers SHOULD be considered the hospital s most valuable assets.

If you have a 10 minute appointment, plan on 90 minutes, with a double shanking of paying several dollars for parking.

If you have a 1 hour appointment, you might as well take a half day off of work, plan on four hours, and expect to skip lunch because your lunch money (or more!) will be needed to pay for parking.

If the healthcare market weren t so screwed up and largely socialized, a terribly run facility like Wake Forest Baptist would either be forced to treat their customers with a modicum of respect to earn their business or it wouldn t be in business at all.

Administrators and doctors: Drop the hubris and difficult as it may be, try to put yourselves in your customers shoes.

My son was born with kidney reflux. The only person we could see in NC was with Wake Forest. We recently found out it is affecting both kidneys. I've had to call the doctor's office there on a near daily basis. I'm fed up with this, my son is now not doing well and may require surgery, but we are just trying to get them to set up a test to determine if he needs the surgery or not.
This is NOT professional! My son is now six months old, is miserable all the time, even while on medicine, and needs care, but care is not given! If something happens, we will be taking legal action!

Poor care. They are doing a very poor job at training residents. I now avoid all Wake Forest medical school graduates and any doctor that did their residency at Wake Forest. After four days of negligent care in the hospital, I was sent home to die. They failed to diagnose. The attending said her job was not to diagnose, just stabilize patients and ship them out the door. Had I not received treatment elsewhere my family feels there is 100% chance that I would not have survived. My room was not cleaned the entire time I was there. What should terrify patients is I had an infectious condition and should have been on contact precautions. They risked other patients lives by not following safety guidelines. This hospital is a disgrace. The residents are not even learning basic skills. I saw a 3rd year resident in Internal medicine that was proud she was graduating in a few months but admitted to knowing nothing about different body systems and couldn't even use an otoscope.

Was 5 minutes late with a three month old, have over an hour drive to get here. Waited and hour and 20 minutes haven't went back or anything when I had told the lady at the front desk she said well you were late so it will be 30 to an hour more to wait... the appointment was for a three month old... the waiting room was empty at times. I had another appointment to go to two hours after that one while I was in WS, NC. I make my baby's appointment on the same days different times.

I never leave reviews, however this establishment has really done a number on my emotions. I'm in room 1015 and I've been here for 4-5 days. The nurses and the DR are not on the same page. The personal opinions of the nurses are putting pressure on us despite the doctor's orders. The Dr. told us to breastfeed and supplement the formula, however the nurse told us to only breastfeed even after losing 10% of birth weight. I am extremely upset with the process that I am training and asking the Dr. and the nurses to work together as a team before confusing us with misinformation. I highly recommend not coming here if possible.

I went to this hospital for clinical rotation for my nursing program and the charge nurse Jessica Ridley who works on 8 Ardmore floor for med surge was ghetto and I couldn't believe how she was talking and ignoring the patients. She feels like she's in charge and just sit at her desk half the time on the computer. I found this behavior very disgusting and disturbing. This hospital is suppose to be magnet hospital. Behaviors like that should be unacceptable at any hospital let along magnet recognition.

I have been a patient since 1988. We have driven from Rocky Mount,Gastonia and now Newland N.C. all being a 3 hour drive. I told my husband if anything ever happened to me and he didn't take me to Wake Forest, I would haunt him the rest of his life. I have never had an unpleasant experience. You are the doctor's number one priority as well as all the staff. They treat me like family. I always get names of those who care for me and write letters of praise to Dr. McConnell when I get back home. We are desperately trying to sell our home so we can get closers to Baptist as my health has made it difficult for me to take the trips.

The ER does not do a good job at diagnostics. I was told, "If it isn't a stroke or heart attack, you go home." I friend has been to the ER seventeen times this year and it took him going into a coma to diagnose his abnormal headaches."

It took a COMA for the medical team to help him.

Where do I begin with the HORRIBLE treatment of this "level one trauma center"....November 30th my daughter and her family were involved in a horrible car accident with 2 semi's. They were rushed here by ambulance. We are from buffalo New York so I could not get there immediately (I was a nervous wreck) I spoke with several people over the phone who told me my child's injuries were serious but she was stable. Broken femur, pelvis, ribs, and a pneumothorax was what they said. I asked if there were any surgeries needed bc I cannot be there to consent until the next day they assured me if anything changed they would call me. The next day I arrived and my child was in surgery to repair her fractured femur. I asked who gave consent because I was not there to give it they stated her father did!! Her father who was up on another floor in the trauma ICU for his injuries!!! Unbelievable!!!!! After the surgery I thought a dr would come and explain to me the procedure and how she did....nope didn't happen. The whole time I had to ask nurses questions about her surgery and thank God they were nice enough to explain things to me but they said the surgeon should have spoken to me....So after this calmed down We were sent to a regular floor for her to recover. By day 2 they were ready to discharge her and we did not have anywhere to go as we were not from there and home was 10 hours away! They offered a Ronald McDonald house "up the hill" because medically she did not need to be hospitalized according to their staff. I asked them how could they know that when PT only got her up and out bed one time. They stated PT cleared her to go home. I was livid. They literally walked her around the bed one time and said she was fine. No stairs, no transfers, no long distances were even considered. Thank God I am a nurse and knew that there had to be some type of protocol for discharges of this nature. They set us up with a wheelchair and walker and again tried to push us out the door with no where to go. Why would I take her to Ronald McDonald house when she's on narcotics for pain and she's not ambulating well. The social worker called and asked Ronald McDonald staff if the house was handicap accessible which they said it was. A family member stated that there were stairs in the house to get in and out of the kitchen and community room since u could not eat or drink in the rooms and they had no tv. RIDICULOUS. How could I confine a 6 year old in a room all day when she took long periods of time to eat and more time to ambulate. No answers. I told them I am not leaving until my family gets to us and I am 100% certain my daughter can travel without issue. flying was not an option due to her lung injury. They suggested we go to a hotel and wait for my family next but had no clue as to who would pay for it. Again I refused to leave. The nurse practitioner and social worker both were sorry that the surgical team was being so pushy with the discharge given the circumstances. I felt bullied and that they did not care about the well being of my child! My daughter had never broken a bone or had surgery in her entire life! She was having terrible nightmares of the accident and was prescribed Valium for it but again according to them she was ready to go home. Finally after telling them PT hadn't even showed her how to go up and down the stairs they backed off A LITTLE. I waited two days for PT to come and I asked why it took so long..."oh they don't have many of them their short staffed" EXCUSE ME?! But u were ready to discharge my daughter after they only saw her once! By the time we left they'd seen her a total of 3 times and determined she would not need any rehab. Her broken pelvis was never addressed the entire stay as neither were her ribs. Just "oh it will heal with time don't worry" when I asked for the location of these injuries so I would know how to transfer her properly without hurting her they had no clue so I had to obtain the medical records and read them for myself! DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY TO THIS HOSPITAL!! It is a joke!!
