Absolutely top notch care. The staff is incredible and has made my nearly two week stay very comfortable. Every step of the way I was kept informed of exactly what was going on with my care. The fact that I was not only included in, but seemed to be an essential part of the decisions about my care is an experience I haven't received before at other hospitals.
Sure the ER can be a little busy sometimes, but that is typical of any decent sized hospital. Their triage process ensures that those who need to go back first will do just that. Unfortunately everyone in the waiting room thinks that they must be in the worst shape ever. (Sorry about the rant)
Anyway, this is truly one of the best hospitals in North Carolina and their burn team is second to none.

Very Unhappy with the care my got from Dr Gyr at the comp rehab Pediatric orthopedic department. 2 years ago he was referred to her, she said she seen nothing wrong with his feet that physical therapy and shoe insert would fix. So we did that with little to one improvement. He begged us not to go back, so we just watch him for the next couple years then we noticed it getting worse. So I made a appointment with another orthopedic, he saw the same problem he saw two years ago but it was worse, so he referred him to the feet special in his office, that specialist referred him back to Dr Gyr cause he said she was the best for my son condition. So against what I right wanting to took him back to her. once again she said there is nothing wrong inside his feet, order physical therapy and shoe inserts again. I ask her why is it you see nothing and the other Orthopedic see a abnormality. She yes Dr Gyr ..said "How do they know, they just like to always say its that and send the teens here". So I left very frustrated not knowing what to do from here. So I went back to the Orthopedic that he saw first, he then advised me to request that his family doctor referred him to a pediatrist so I did.
At the feet and ankle specialist I told them I don't want to tell you what any of the other doctors have said. I want you to check him out and tell me what you see.
So after they did xray the doctor came in and show that my son had a alcaneonavicular Coalition that he was born with that at some point he had broke that coalition and it was rubbing together like sand paper which was causing me son a great deal of pain. And the only way to fix it was surgery to remove that broken coalition.
My son dealt with this for 2 year, when she could have fixed it if she had just looked, or even wanted to fix it.
She was very rude! I have NO believeth in her at all. And my son/family are not the only one she has done this too. After talk to other parent around my son school it happens often.
Please be careful!

Very poor service when you hit the nurse call bell button I would hit it 4 and 5 times before I ever got someone in my room, and believe me I really didn't want to hear that women voice tell me for the um tenth time that she would tell my nurse, because she sounded like she was lazy as S*it, she sounded like she had a mouth full of when she spoke over the intercom, you wonder where they find these people at to work i a Hospital!!!

Took my son in, his 4th trip to the er in two weeks. Abdominal pain, chest pain, rapid heart rate. They registered him, then sent him to the waiting area. We sat for over 4 hrs, never saw a doctor. They were packing people in the waiting room and no one was being seen. People were there hours before us and they had not been seen either. I was completely disgusted in what we experienced tonight. Not sure what has changed, but this place has gone down hill.

I had small intestine resection surgery performed by Dr. Waters and his team 11 days ago. From the first appointment meeting Dr. Waters and "just Brian" (kids nicknamed his PA), to checking in for surgery, to pre-op and recovery, I cannot complain about a single thing. My only regret is that I can't remember everyone's names to thank each and every one of them for taking care of me. So many people were involved in my care throughout the surgery and afterward in recovery. I do remember my nurses and cna's from 9CC! If any of you are reading this; Lisa, Zach, Shannon, Angel, Sue, and Megan -- you guys made recovery as good as it could get thank you so much for being great at your jobs much love from former 927

A family member is battling cancer. The stress and emotions facing this family member and all of our close family is tremendous. God has blessed our family with the most incredibly wonderful group of people including Doctor Ashburn, and nurses, and house keeping. Each individual member has made this difficult time less stressful. The entire body of empmoyees at this hospital have been a blessing from God. Thank you, each and every individual, for the professionalism and heart felt treatment showed to my entire family. This includes those who have no connection with my family but have assisted us with directions and gone out of their way to personally guide us to the correct locations as we approach this journey towards the many different treatments and surgeries. May God bless each individual for the care and hospitality towards my family. Truly a World Class Group Of Individuals.

I've been a patient at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center since 2008. My experience has been incredibly positive! Prior to November 2012, the drive to WFUBMC was more than 2 hours each way. My husband and I are now residing 20 minutes from this outstanding medical facility. Our overall evaluation, excellent!

On March 22, 2018 I had a wonderful experience with one of the worker in the pharmacy.
I had just left the Diabetes Dr with the news of perscribing me Lantus Insulin 10 units. This was a decision that had to be made. I called to check on my percription price. It was a price that I couldn't paid so the stress was building because I need to start this medication on 23rd. I trully thank God for Lisa (who i tried to meet face to face with but she was off when I went to pick up my Lantus). Lisa was very perfessional with the service that she gave me. She took the time to help me do the process for discount medication. I am glad to say she was a blessing to me on March 22, 2018. Now I can focus on putting a stop to the effect of diabetes because of people like Lisa. Thanks Lisa!!!

the hospital should have better cleaning staff and food staff. It's like they don't care if the floors are clean or sterilized and the food is apparently sprayed with the same type of taste that is horrible.

This experience has been disappointing, to say the absolute least. A visit to the ER - the department that is meant to serve the public in the most immediate way - has taken over 4 hours to be seen, and counting. I ve watched people crying in pain, and others walk out because it simply took too long to be seen.

There is no apology that can fix this; no public statement that somehow makes it alright. It s the worst customer service I ve had at a hospital yet, and although the staff is kind, if a hospital is run in this manner I will not be coming back (or recommending anyone else to come here, for that matter). This puts Wake Forest to shame.

Well it's almost like a mousetrap maze,.!?? So many towers, and elevators,.. in all areas, it was hard to navigate, for us, being here, these first few visits, but the nurses, and doctors, were great, and my sons,..3rd degree burns, on 20% of his body, are beginning to look better, afterabout a month, of visits,.!! We are grateful for that..!!! Thank you all,.. Dr.,..Holmes, and Dr. Williams,... and his nurses, in the 8 days, and 4 return visits, that it took, to release him.!! Outstanding care, wonderful staff. I just underwent a surgical procedure last Wednesday. From th moment I checked in until I checked out, the Doctors and Nurses at this facility were excellent. I d like to specifically thank, Galina, Nicole and Juliette for their terrific bedside manner and ability to put up with this grumpy old man. This hospital is an hour and a half from my home, but if I needed care at this level in the future, this is the place I d want to go.

Drove up to ER, horn blaring, stopped. No help. Ran into ER, let receptionist know I had a patient involved in accident in back of car who couldn't breathe. Her reply was there was only one man there, & if he wasn't he'd be back in a minute. Lady, he can't breathe, can you get someone?-her reply set me off- I can't leave my desk, I'll try to call someone! I had to literally yell, scream, & curse to get someone to car! The patient, who had to be revived is in ICU. I was told I got him there with seconds to spare. What kind of ER has no one to receive life-threatening injuries? Perhaps one that should be sued if that same patient had died because he couldn't be assisted from car to ER lobby??? He actually was SECONDS FROM DEATH WITH NO AIRWAY, & the valet/receiver will "be back in a minute"???? Please let the top administrator know that this is insufficient. By the way, I'm Angie, a former NC CNA-1 who knows medical emergencies.

My mother was sent her by her oncologist in Asheville, because she has other health problems, and is considered high risk. She had cancer in her kidney, and had to have it removed. The Urologist and the anesthetic team were great, and very attentive during pre surgery prep. The same cannot be said of the nursing staff in recovery. She has to use a CPAP machine, and her anesthesiologist told us that as soon as the tubing was removed from her throat after surgery, she would need to be hooked up to a CPAP. She has been in her recovery room for nearly 4 hours, and still no CPAP is hooked up for her. Her IV machine has gone off 3 different times now, and each time has taken the nurse 5+ minutes to respond. Even though you can see nurses at the station from the room window. None of them moved to investigate why her machine was not working properly. When she asked for water, it took the nurse over 30 minutes to come back with water. So, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center the MDs were great, but the recovery nursing staff was terrible.

Dr.GoCu helped in hiding a death of an infant child. Refuses to give the mother the second autopsy report... After the Autopsy specialist Mary.G spoke to the mother and states her son was killed of head injury and overdose, telling the mother that if she was unaware of him being dropped or if the lethal amount of medicine given to this infant... She needed to contact the Dr on duty the night of his death... Which leads back to Dr.GoCu... This child was in the NiCu since birth... So you tell me what seems normal about any of this! This hospital may not even be open for practice when we are finished with this mess!! If Dr.GoCu is your child's head physician RUFUSE it!

The nurses were very nice but unfortunately one of the gave me bags to store my breast milk in that weren't sanitary I had to throw away a days worth of milk they also did not inform me that my daughter had high blood pressure. The food from the cafeteria wasn't of my liking & the room service people were either extremely nice or extremely rude.

ON February 16th my Wife Monica was taken to the WFUBMC ER due to complications of psneumonia. She was admitted into the ER at 1600 and as of February 17th at 1700 she has yet to be admitted into a roomm because of boarding issues. She had a lung aspiration done and is now sitting still in the ER in the hallway..... This is totally uncalled for.... She is still in pain and we are waiting on the proper medical assistance from this facility...... after this experience I will never step foot into another WFUBMC location for medical help!

We have been visiting and using this hospital for ...

We have been visiting and using this hospital for years. This recent emergency visit has been horrid. We came straight to ICU. These are brilliant doctors but have no communication skills. This leads to frustration between family and patients that are already in trauma. DR.Van Walter was the rudest doctor I ve ever encountered. My mom did not understand a highly intelligent doctors terms. Mom ask her options and was told she could try meds first then if did not lower her heart rate we could do the cardioversion ( shocking heart back into rythm.) when meds did not work ( which was option provided by the Dr Rose ( if not option or not best don t mean ruin it ) Dr.Van actually yelled at us with my mom in ICU stating if you didn t want our help take her to the parking lot. I am not trying to scare or be rude but she can t continue this heart rate. ( well he was the doctor why didn t he have someone come and say it s time for the cardioversion. He says we refused ( we did not ... huge communication issue) then DR van stated I do. It have time to sit here and discuss I have a airlift patient coming in ... what the heck. Us as well as the other attending physicians stood there with shock. The attending physicians as professionals tried to smooth his rudeness away by saying he is stressed. Well excuse me we are in ICU and depended on your help. Then we say okay whatever he thought we said no to.. let s get it rolling. They all agreed. This would be done same evening. Oops remember Van screaming you have 2 hours maybe 2 days but your heart can t stand this rythm. They gave mom a food tray. So now they come back remember life threatening and say we can t do until tomorrow. Are you guys okay with that we say yes. Nurse first shift leaves... 2nd shift we ask nurse what time is procedure she said there is nothing scheduled. We say what????!!! Heart rate still at 140Beats a min. Oh now it s a holiday we don t have staff ( excuse me ???? We are so frustrated by this and had to share. Through gods grace the medication did actually work that night to keep her heart rate down. ( we did finally still need the cardioversion but it did not happen until Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. Dr. Cole Phillips was the most professional and well mannered doctor we could not have made it through this horrible experience without him. Chris Woods our attending nurse was outstanding as well. People are scared when they come here they do not need to be screamed at or not expect to have questions. So my advise to you doctor Van if you don t have time to talk or speak to a family in a better manner don t even come in the room. I do appreciate what you did for our family but it could ve been some much smoother.
Remember my mom has a cardiologist here at baptist ... we seen him once. There needs to be a trust factor for patients and their trusted doctor.
Please. Share this with everyone you see....

Hubbard Family

I have had two major surgeries done at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center over the past two years - a coronary bypass and kidney transplant. Each procedure went well with no complications which I attribute to the excellent Doctors, Nurses and others on each team. The Pre- and Post- Surgery care was exceptional, with information given to explain the procedure and expectations afterwards. As for the hospital stay, the accommodations were better than most with excellent Nursing care, room amenities and food quality. I highly recommend WFBMC.

ER visit for a one time random seizure. We were assigned to a brand new resident neurologist with absolutely no experience and I question his education. He forgot to write orders for the MRI and EEG that he "recommended" which meant many weeks of wait time to finally get those arranged. He misread the results of the MRI leading us to believe my husband had a rare brain tumor deep inside his brain and needed surgery ASAP. He told us this news like he was was reading a phone book. He admitted he had to "look up" the name of the cyst on the results of the MRI. Turns out, the cyst was nothing and any experienced doc would have know that. The seizure was most likely due to dehydration and not eating for 30 hours. Going through the ER at BMC and getting caught up in their "system" caused us more trauma and worry than the event itself. Very disorganized and the newbie docs are NOT supervised. They will ruin your life if you don't get a second opinion.

The medical and support staff are superior. However having to deal with finance is horrible. My insurance completely covers me. I get bills and I call and it's corrected. One time I paid by accident and it's become a complete fiasco, they sent multiple letters asking for payment even after they deposited the check. They "keep " loosing or can't find" the information I sent. They have even lost the canceled check I sent (registered mail). Fantastic place to be cared for.

Dr. Perry Shen was referred to me by my orthopedic surgeon when a mass was found which stopped the surgery of a hip replacement. They worked very fast and the first visit with Dr. Shen the mass was remove. Fortunately it was removed because it was large and deeper than expected. It was cancer, which had spread to the lymph node. Very impressed with Dr. Shen and his knowledge of oncology. He is kind and his temperment never changes.
If a patient has to wait to go back to their appt, (which I never have) he more than likely has an emergency and I hope you would want his attention in the same situation.
He is the best surgical oncologist in his field. My case is still in progress. Very blessed to have Dr. Shen as my Doctor. Thank you Dr. Shen!

Since then I've been monitored regularly by my oncologist to make sure that another tumor doesn't return. I recently gave birth to my second child at the Wake Forest Baptist Birth Center and had a very positive experience.

First off, the facilities are really nice. Everything is clean and new and state-of-the-art. The birthing rooms are huge with good views (we had one of the mountains) and the postpartum rooms are much larger and more comfortable than the hospital where I delivered my first child. I know my husband especially appreciated the convertible couch/ bed that afforded him a few hours of much needed sleep.

Secondly, the staff are knowledgeable and kind and were always very attentive. Anything we needed was provided and I really felt like they did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

After my experience I would definitely recommend the Birth Center to anyone exploring birthing options in the Winston Salem area, it really is a lovely place to have a baby.

I would give this hospital zero stars if I could! My dad had surgery done on his neck a couple weeks ago and the surgeon did good but the nursing staff was awful! He only got his bedding changed once from Monday-Saturday, no offer to help with his bathing, and when asked for ice that was approved by doctor, was never brought to him by nurses. The BIGGEST issue I had was the fact he kept telling the nurses that his tongue hurt and their response was oh that s normal and never once checked his tongue to make sure. Come to find out once he gets home and looks for his self, he had thrush on his tongue which was making it hard to swallow, and this could have easily been treated by a nurse! Pure laziness and very unprofessional!

My disabled father-in-law was taken via ambulance ...

My disabled father-in-law was taken via ambulance at 9:30pm Sunday night. We were contacted by his senior living home. After calling for several hours trying to find info, my husband and I talked to several unhelpful receptionists who wouldn t put us through to anyone outside of the admin staff-who cannot share any info. Finally, I secured a babysitter and rush the 45minutes to the hospital. Once there I had to wait in the ER waiting room for 25 minutes until I could go back.
The communication while there is fantastic. Perhaps the medical care is as well. The problem is, we could not be with the patient 24/7. My husband was working out of town and I was the only one available and yet I have 2 toddlers.
My FIL was in the ER, neuro ICU, and neuro while there. He was also working the social worker, PT and OT. He is disabled and cannot speak.
I left 3 family members phone numbers on the white boards, requested them to call me whenever there was a change, our numbers are in the chart, and yet not one of us received a call for the duration of his stay. We were not communicated to when he left ICU. We were not communicated with when he finally passed his swallow test. We were not n
Contacted by the social worker who was to find a nursing home for him when he was discharged. Now, he is at the hospital waiting for the social worker to make phone calls for an open bed-why wasn t this done last week?
The kicker is, that even though I would call and request info (and my name is on the chart of people to contact), the medical staff wouldn t share anything. But when a family member who is NOT on the chart and not cleared for medical
Information was visiting-she was told everything. Not his son, not his wife.
While there, medical students, nurses, and other staff would come rushing in to ask questions, I need to know the full extent of his medical history, I need to know his complete seizure history. I need to know x,y, and z. And yet NOBODY picked up the phone to call. Not one. The doctors didn t call. The nurses didn t call. The social worker didn t call. The PT/OT didn t call.
If you are able to be with your family member and speak for them 24/7....perhaps you will think this is a wonderful place. If you are a patient and can speak for yourself, perhaps you will be fine. BUT when the patient is unable to communicate......find a different hospital. This was the absolute worst medical we have ever seen-and this is from a family of a man who was been a stroke patient for 30 years and has 1-3 long stays at a hospital every year.
I hope their policies change. Picking up the phone and communicating with the family of a disabled man who cannot speak for himself or has the cognitive ability to understand what is happening....I mean....shouldn t that be an expectation?

My water broke at 20 weeks gestation and unfortunately we lost my little girl. However the doctors, nurses, anesthesiologist, and CNA that I worked with to induce and deliver were great to me. They were understanding, they were caring. I can't say enough about how great and extremely fast my treatment was.

My only complaint was how long discharge took, and how Indifferent they were to my significant other. He was grieving too and I felt it was ignored.

I'd feel comfortable coming back and delivering another baby here. I do trust everyone here.

my daughter has a rare form of cancer a 1 in 5 billion type of cancer, we went to Wake forest because they seem to care, that is until they messed up her dose of the chemo drug to protect her bladder and she ended up with Cystitis. we left after 5 rounds of Chemo because it was making the tumor grow, then when we went back to see the Dr. for a her CT scan , he pretty much just told us that she should just contact hospice , she is only 20 yrs old and that was the worst experience I have ever had with a DR. I had a rather major surgery lately on my neck at WFUBMC. I have worked in the Medical Industry for almost 40 years. My surgical procedure was enhanced by the short wait time in the pre-op areas. My anesthesia and procedure were explained in detail to me. I was impressed by the way all of my caregivers listened to my opinions and feelings and respected my input. The nursing care I received during my 3-day hospital stay was EXCELLENT! I received quick responses from my requests through the "call bell". My special diet because of the expected swelling in my throat (and my diabetes) was delivered well and supplemented with food kept on the nursing unit just for that purpose. I highly recommend this facility and especially the Department of Neurosurgery!

This place is the saddest excuse for a hospital. With the exception of a couple good staff the rest are unhelpful and rude. My mother was in a car accident and just because she doesn't have insurance they are forcing her to leave. She is in critical care and can't use the right side of her body. She can't even use the bathroom by herself. Not to mention the fact that she's now homeless because her friend passed away in the accident they were in. The friend that she was living with after being domestically abused. No I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not if they want to live and are poor.

The Cafe Bakery has the best healthy choices, customer service, and a variety of different teas! Also, the actual hospital is beyond amazing. The nurses are constantly checking on my grandma every five to ten minutes. I've never seen such a dedicated staff in my life that truly care for their patients.
