The service was awful. The rooms were dirty. When we arrived we had been waiting for 20 minutes in our room for the luggage and it hadn't arrived yet. I had to go and ask for it myself because nobody informed the staff to take the luggage to our room. We spent one day with no hot water (I went in winter). The carpets of the aisles were so slovenly. The rooms were messy and untidy. When we left the hotel, we had to take the luggage down ourselves because all the staff was occupied and we would had to wait 30 minutes if we wanted to have the luggage taken down. If we would have waited, we would have lost our flight. I would never recommend this hotel.
This place Terrible terible terrible!! Do not be fooled by the pictures online. Only the exec level suites are renovated, and that s one floor in a 20 something story facility. Everything else is extremely dated and not well kept. The carpet needs to be burned. I couldn t take my shoes off. The bed was rickety and had a major slope in the middle. The tub was dirty. There were screws poking out of the desk which was of concern as we had a toddler walking around. The only good thing about this hotel is the location and the service, but even that doesn t make up for the lack luster facility.
If you can avoid avoiding bed ticks in room 1446 on the 9th floor ... they also charge every $ 30 service fee ... if we were in Italy this hotel would be closed by nann ...
Old, smelly and barely worth the stay Do have to say the staff and service was above expectation but the product is is rough shape. Clean however so for a quick nap, pretty safe.
Hotel is central located. Dingy and Depressing luckily I was on the 18th floor which was nicer than the other floors when I got off at 19 by mistake.
The hotel stated it was a 4 star hotel no it is more like a 2.5-3 . The room was nice but shower had NO HOT water after checking in after midnight the last thing I wanted to do is switch rooms or have a maintaince man come in the room at that time after traveling all day.
i also paid over $42.90 in taxes and fees and then was charged an additional $32.66 totalling $75 on top of the $166 rate.Paying $241 for a hotel room with out a hot shower.
Would not stay here again or recommend . The hotel also uses the toxic air freshers which was very strong in the lobby as most hotel do.
The only positive thing about this hotel is its location. Otherwise it is an old hotel, many things do not work, in poor condition and even worse cleaning. Judge for yourself with some of the photos ... worse than some roadside hotels, and for $ 2,000 a week ...
Nightmare experience checking in and out. Lifts are poor. Rooms need renovating. Not good facilities. But if you wish to stay near the hussle and bussle then stay in another hotel nearby.
I recently stayed here for over week and while the location is A++, the hotel is very run down and the staff could've been better.
Firstly, my room was not ready when I arrived at 9pm that evening, due to the hotel being overbooked. I was given another room and told to move the next day. I moved, which was fine, into a filthy room, that was damaged (air con and phone didn't work), had mold and was dusty. I spoke to the manager, who had an "i don't care" attitude and moved me into another room. I will state, he didn't apologise for the filth and basically just moved me and wiped his hands clean of the situation. The hotel is very busy so I don't think they really care about the state of the rooms, more so just getting people in and out.
My final room was marginally better but still, not good looking. There was mold in the bathroom that I scrubbed away, the sink plug (in built) was removed so it was just a giant hole, and my wallpaper was peeling off.
The bell men, who tended to the bags, were lovely and very helpful and the front desk/check in staff, were pleasant enough but I wouldn't say outstanding. I did not deal with the concierge. The manager on duty did not seem to care and this was purely a job for him.
In addition to this, every morning around 3am, the cleaning staff would move very large bins of towels etc (you could hear wheels rolling and then the large trolleys rolling over minor humps on the ground). This occurred on each level I stayed on (I was in a total of 3 rooms due to the reason above) and it was so loud, it would wake me up. I checked initially to see if it was guests leaving but it wasn't. These bins even were parked in the hotel halls during day hours, which I have never seen before. This was the worst part about the stay because this constantly woke me up. It did eventually move to around 11pm-12pm at the end of my stay but still, if you have small kids, or even just want to sleep, it could be very annoying.
A few things as well: 1) Cleaning staff yell at each other in the morning (not rudely) but they are very loud. 2) Damages in room, including wall dents, loud air con, bathroom damages. Note these down in your room in case of any issues later on. 3) No food room service for those who care or cafe. There is a tiny coffee stand but nothing else. Yes, I am aware it's NYC but this may be important to some people for various reasons. 4) It's a great location; it's just a smidgen out of Times Square but still accessible. Right near trains and close to a lot. 5) The balcony (should your room have one) is a tiny box with high walls (no city view) and very unkept but it was lovely to get fresh air. I did have people throwing things into my balcony. 6) No bed bugs sighted during stay.
Finally, as I write this, I have been double charged by the Manhattan Times Square - for what I assume is a facility fee. I was unaware I need to pay a facility fee of $34 USD a night until I arrived (we don't have this in Australia or other places I have stayed worldwide). While this was fine, I am now finding that I have two charges on my credit card. I have lodged this with them and my bank to get this amended - I will comment on the results.
It's very evident that this hotel is very popular, due to it's location, but with the numbers of price competitive hotels that are much nicer and in the same location, I cannot see this hotel surviving without a face lift. I have stayed in NYC numerous times and at multiple hotels, and I would have to say this was the worst.
I personally wouldn't recommend this hotel and encourage people to shop around for other hotels within the same area.
P.S. I have attached a few photos of the state of the rooms.
Stayed for 3 nights booked two rooms. I was very concerned after reading some reviews. At check in we were upgraded to the refurbished rooms on level 5. Both rooms were fantastic, one was a twin with a balcony overlooking Times square the other had an enormous king bed. All staff we had contact with were very friendly and location is amazing.
All the carpets on the hallways and bedrooms need replacing, old furniture, bathroom needs updating. Comfy bed and safe supplied in the room, which is good. Had a quick response from the manager, which is excellent. With regards to the location of the hotel it is ideal for everything you need to see and do in New York.
The price, size of the room, and location make this 5 stars. Yes, the rooms need updating a little, and a few more elevators would help, but isn't this true with all hotels in Manhattan?
it would 3.5 if that rating was possible as is. as far as location that's 5 star size of the room is 5 star. the hotel is older but the price was great
The bathtub had alot of mildew. The wallpaper in the room was peeling. Had to put the thermostat all the way down to 60 to kick on. Never staying here ever again.
Foyer lovely . Lifts slow . Corridors dirty, worn dizmal. Room ok bedding clean bathroom small and water comes through celin from upstairs shower. Wall thin can hear everything! !! Good location
As a frequent visitor to NYC my 5-day stay at The Manhattan was absolutely perfect. Sure it's a bit older, but most hotels in NYC are old. My room was clean and VERY quiet, had a decent view, had a window that opened nicely to let the street sounds in when I wanted, and it was SURPRISINGLY SPACIOUS! In the past I've paid twice as much for half the space. The only thing I found I needed was a mini-fridge. But that's a minor issue since a cheap collapsible ice cooler (which I always pack) does the trick. (Addendum: I have since learned from their web site that mini-fridges are available for $25 PER STAY, which is a good deal since I usually stay for a week. I would definitely have taken advantage of this had I known.) The service - from the desk to the maid to the concierge - was friendly, fast, and professional. But what really makes this hotel stand out is LOCATION! It's an easy walk to Central Park, Times Square, theaters, museums, dive bars, etc. Will definitely stay here again!
Could not control the room temperature. The room was a dump with pen marks on the walls and grime on the switches. Paper thin walls. A good place for school groups who only need a place to sleep.
Excellent location. They just remodeled the lobby. If you book, do it on the 16th floor, or "executive", which is the only one with remodeled rooms. The rest of the building is very neglected. The other rooms are clean, but not beautiful.
The first room we had was dirty. The manager was receptive and was gonna going to have the room clean for us by the time we got back. But instead the towels were changed but the sheets were not. Furthermore the room was very very hot and when I complained they said that they couldn't do anything about it because engineering had turned off the AC for the season. So instead where they gave us was a fan and oscillating small fan which was nowhere near efficient enough because during the day it was 75 degrees close to Plus. That night on the first night that were there I spoke to another manager named Wesley and he had told me that the AC was turned on but I am thinking in retrospect he didn't know there were staying for 2 nights cuz essentially he had lied to me without looking up my room and how long I was actually going to stay. I told him that the sheets hadn't been changed the AC was very hot so you said that he was going to upgrade us. The second night was much better we had an upgraded room that actually had its own AC system so we're very comfortable that night. So overall are experienced the second night was much much better but that first room was dirty and the AC didn't work so overall I wouldn't come back to this hotel again.
The walls were thin and every door shut with a slam. The air conditioning unit's front panel was loose and rattled so loud that we shoved a pillow under the unit to put pressure on the panel to stop the rattling. The tub didn't drain fast, so you ended up standing in water up to your ankle while showering. Great location, though.
The only reason it gets one star is because of the location. The hotel is VERY rundown and the rooms desperately need renovating. Our room had a weird smell, the carpets were starting to come up and the bathroom had lots of mould. Was supposed to stay for two nights but left after one...
The attention and the place are excellent. The location is the best for sightseeing. The staff is very friendly and strives to help the visitor. I highlight Guillermo from the reception and Mohammed at breakfast.
Not too bad. Very well located. I found it unacceptable that we add taxes at the end of the stay. We had asked them if there would be any additional taxes they had told us no
It was a decent room, with a view of the ed Sullivan theater. The clerk who checked us in, Mohammed, was great. However we had issues with the wifi and the front desk didn't answer the phone. The other bad point was that h pop housecleaning walked into the room before checkout without knocking.
We stayed here for 2 nights. I cannot complain at all. Its a super location. It s not top of the line fancy, but it is clean & the staff is super friendly. Plenty of hot water in the morning. I thought noise would be an issue because of location but it was surprisingly quiet. The building could use some updating, but so could most hotels in NYC. I would definitely stay here again.
Absolutely perfect location! Very clean rooms. Nice staff. Very quiet. Will stay here next visit. The doorman told us to see if our room was ready early just in case and it was which was great. Guillermo at the front desk was especially helpful. Our room was a great size with everything we needed and a window that would open several inches to let fresh air in. Really enjoyed it.
It took a hour to check in for a room I had reserved a month previous. I had paid for a king size room with an upgrade with a nice view and refrigerator. Instead I was given a standard room with a queen size bed no view and no refrigerator. I had paid for a roll out bed for my son and in the period of 4 hours had checked the status of the roll out bed with the front desk. I was told they were making it and then they would bring it to the room. By 10pm still no bed for my son. Keep in mind that I had checked in at 1pm. I called the front desk and no one answered so I went down there. I was informed that they were all out of roll out beds. Even though I had paid for one and reserved it. So I said what am I supposed to do for my son? He has no where to sleep. The manager shrugged and said nothing I can do. He also said he could not refund the price I paid for the roll out bed or the additional fee I paid for the upgraded room. He said I would have to send an email. So I went back up to the room and I gave my son a pillow and blankets off the bed and my husband and I had to share a pillow and a sheet. This place was horrible at providing customer service and providing what you as a guest pays for. Then gives an I don't care attitude.
Overall, I found the accommodations to be satisfactory. The location is ideal for anyone who has business in midtown and the staff was courteous. The bed was comfortable and the room came with all your standard amenities.
However, the room we were staying in had faulty heating (the heat wouldn't turn off) which made sleeping rather uncomfortable. The hotel managed to turn it off and gave us a swivel fan, but that only mitigated an uncomfortably warm room. Were it not for this fault, my stay would have been about perfect.
The rooms are nothing like what's shown on the website. I would have canceled the rooms after seeing all of the terrible reviews, but they have a no-cancellation policy, even though I called within 24 hours of booking it, and it was a week ahead of when I was scheduled to stay there. When I was checking in, the person in the line ahead of me was there, saying there was no electricity in the room, and he wanted to cancel their stay, but they wouldn't budge on refunding him. I felt terrible for the customer. The room I had was super outdated and the mattress was so uncomfortable. The bathtub had mold growing on it. I don't recommend this hotel.
Staff rude except Gloria. Bed was big, clean and comfortable. Hotel is very tired and is in desperate need of a make over. The carpet in the corridor on our floor was so worn it was dangerous. Reported coffee machine in our room broken 3 times and it didn't get fixed the whole time we were there, when we were checking out I mentioned it again, the receptionist just ignored me. Wouldn't recommend this hotel, when there are so many in the same area that are priced the same in much better condition.
My husband, myself, and our two dogs stayed here for 3 nights while our condo was under construction. The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel is your home away from home. This boutique hotel is magnificent. Each suite is the size of a large condo and comes fully stocked with a full kitchen, washer dryer, grill, and anything you need to cook or bake. The staff is also extremely welcoming and very helpful. If your thinking about visiting NY and want to stay walking distance. We're happy to be back in our home but in the event we need a pet friendly hotel this is our #1 choice.
I am actually writing this as I sit in my shoebox sized room. This hotel needs major updates. The lobby is nice and appealing but when you get on the elevator to go up to your room.....you will be in for a surprise. There is paint peeling from the doors. It's very dingy looking. The one great thing is that it's located close by everything in Times Square. I think it should be rated a 2 star.
The good thing about this hotel is the location and the spaciousness of the rooms, which are abnormal in NYC. The bad thing is that some of them are separated by doors and everything is heard. I had one on the top floor (notice that they do not get that) and you could hear the heating motor. The price is quite affordable.
Location of this hotel is great. About 10 minute walk to Times Square, close to St Peter's, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller center, etc., all at a very reasonable price.
When we walked in the lobby of the hotel looked great, and the room was ready ahead of time. We got there about 3 hours before check in time, and they gave us the keys, and our room was clean and ready. Pretty good as we were tired from the flight.
The room itself was okay. It was a fair size, with closets, seif, a decent size TV (42" I believe) and everything seemed clean. The room does look like it needs some updating, but honestly, for the price, it's not a big deal. That being said, once you get out in the hallway, you see where the cost cutting is. Now THAT needs to be updated.
Overall, we were pleased with our stay at the Manhattan at Times Square because the room was clean, and given the price, and the superb location, it was a very good deal.
The distance to Times Square was very close and convenient, and the view from the window was very good. I was worried because some people said that the room was dirty, but I didn't really care about it at a level that I thought was beautiful for the United States. This is the hotel I want to use again.
This hotel is a disgrace! The room smelled musty, the air didn't work, the carpet was stained, the bathroom faucet poured water constantly, the lighting in the hallway was dim at best, the "balcony" was a joke...one chair, 12 foot high concrete wall and crumbling...and worst of all was the sorry excuse for a bed! Every time I turned over I almost fell out!! Sagging is a severe understatement. I only gave 1 star because I couldn't give zero. DO. NOT. STAY. HERE!
Browsing through hotels, I came across this one and decided to book my stay for a week. Called the hotel 2x to inform of my late arrival and on both calls, both ladies were very rude on the phone. I hope the stay is pleasant or I'll definitely put in writing how they treat their guests.
Don t let Google images deceive you. Although the staff and reception area are nice and clean The rooms are atrocious. They are spacious for an NYC hotel however I feel as if I am in a sleazy motel. Hallways are dirty, the walls are filthy and outdated with damages throughout. The bathroom is nothing like the photo shown. It is old and run down in the bathtub was dirty upon checking in. They do have PURE toiletries! Hairdryer has seen better days and cut off in mid use. Walls in the bedroom are dirty with scuff marks throughout the baseboards and mid wall. Only two plugs usable, the rest in accessible and makes hard for charging. The wallpaper is peeling and the curtains look as though they ve been in the room for 30 years. I m not knocking them because they re outdated but because they look dirty. The door leading to the room was painted white about 10 years ago and is filled with damages and dirt fingerprints and all. There s also damage to the door that looks as if someone kicked it and that s on every single door. The bed is a good size and had I not actually smelled the clean but close I would ve turned around and left right there. The hotels is comparable to a Quality Inn or one of those pay by week motels. Needless to say I will not stay here again not recommend it.
The location near the Time Square is great, you can do a lot of walking or fast with the subway. The noise level at night was unexpectedly quieter than expected, of course you hear something, but much more pleasant than Berlin. We even slept at night with the windows open. The staff is friendly and the lobby looks very nice. The WLan is good and stable and you have a drinking water dispenser on every level, because the American tap water is very chlorinated. Not so good is the fact that our room was a bit worn, the decor and the bathroom have a bit of a bit on the puckel. Partly the joints were germinated and the mattress stained. Every day the bed was made, towels changed and sucked (at least the appearance seemed), but dust wiping was a foreign word from the first day. Conclusion: for the price in the area you can do it, if you are not so sensitive, I had worse accommodations.
Stayed there for 3 nights and have zero complaints. For the price in manhattan it was awesome. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, the whole place smelled good, and the location was perfect.
